Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

  1. What a windbag she could be, sometimes. On and on she’d go, while her husband sat in silence, expressionless. Her heart was huge and her generosity as limitless as her energy. But once she wound herself up on something you could go out and mow the lawn, wash the car, make yourself a sandwich, send your kids to university and still get back just in time to hear her finish. She was a Hungarian cook and cleaning lady. Her husband was Canadian-Hungarian-Israeli. Retired. I know we should have no hyphens, but I’m painting the picture here.

I was having coffee yesterday with my father when they came with his breakfast and lunch. We were listening to the morning Hungarian news on the computer. They were saying something about some thousands of migrants trying to tunnel under the southern fence at Serbia. Usually she won’t watch the state-run station that we watch. Whoever says there is no leftist media in Hungary is wrong. There’s plenty to criticize Orban. This time, however, she was very interested in the screen.

“This is true,” she said of the migrant report. I was already a little surprised at her reaction. She always said Orban was corrupt and that the state TV was just his mouthpiece.

“It’s, it’s the same as has been going on in Israel forever,” said her husband.

“And at the Turkey-Greek border, Bulgaria,” I said. But the EU attacks only Hungary for trying to defend its border.

“L-look,” said her husband. “The EU attacks Israel all the time and Hungary supports Israel. What do you expect?”

This was the end of the beginning. She sat down beside me and started to speak:

“Ev-er-ee time zee EU attack Hun-ga-ree because vee are so small and vee stand up. Ev-er-ee time zey vote to condemn Is-ra-el vee do not let zem because vee vet-o zem. Zey hate us so much. Ev-er-ee vun hate us. Vee have not much army or good de-fence…”

She went on at considerable length, switching to Hungarian. She spoke about the recent substantial Hungarian-government purchases of U.S. weaponry, domestic struggles with the lingering communist attitudes still around, and more on the hostilities coming from Western Europe. Her amplitude increased with every sentence until her eyes teared up and she was balling. We let her go, knowing there was no point in trying to wedge a word in. I was curious that my father made no attempt at disagreement, because usually he tried to intercede on these rants. Nothing. Once I tried to say something and her husband and I just looked at each other with little knowing smiles. I was taken aback by her passionate response to this one news item. It had opened a real flood gate. The anti-Orban bias was gone, now. I guess it was fair to say that I was witness to a red pilling, of sorts. By the time she ran out of gas she was a puddle, and the light that used to stream between our opinions had vanished.

“Remind me to make your coffee weaker next time,” I said.

“Zat’s vhy I hate zee po-li-ti-cal,” she sobbed. “I hate eet so ve-ree much.”

If all that is going on today does not lead to some sort of Renaissance I will be surprised. Concentric rings of discourse ripple outward from everywhere. Won’t we see clearly in retrospect that tyranny would not resist trying to steal the internet for their own purpose?

Talk is smoke until the spark alights an action from the dark.

  3. Explosives from Pakistan, Training in Afghanistan: Indian Sleuths Recreate Kashmir Suicide Bombing
    https://sputniknews.com/world/202008261080279676-explosives-from-pakistan-training-in-afghanistan-indian-sleuths-recreate-kashmir-suicide-bombing-/

“In one of the deadliest terror attacks in the Indian region of Kashmir, a suicide bomber in an explosive-laden car rammed a convoy of troops in February 2019, killing 44 soldiers and injuring several more, raising tension with arch-rival Pakistan. India accused Pakistan of supporting terrorists, a charge denied by Islamabad.

India’s top investigative agency filed its first charge-sheet on Tuesday (25 August), naming 19 people accused of carrying out last year’s deadly 14 February terrorist attack on its troops in Kashmir.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) called the Pulwama attack in Kashmir a “well-planned criminal conspiracy hatched by the Pakistan-based leadership of the terrorist organisation Jaish-e-Mohammad” in the 13,500-page charge-sheet.

The agency has traced links to Pakistan and Afghanistan, listing out evidence like photographs of “every step” of the attack, the car used, videos of rehearsals by the attackers, a WhatsApp call log to numbers in Pakistan, and Pakistan bank accounts details regarding where the money was deposited.

The charge-sheet, filed 18 months after the attack, named Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) terrorist Masood Azhar and his brother Rauf Asghar as key conspirators. Out of the 19 accused, six were already eliminated, seven arrested and five still absconding.

    Explosives from Pakistan
NIA has listed voice notes of JeM Chief Masood Azhar’s brother, Rouf Asghar, discussing the attack as evidence along with Pakistan government identity card possessed by them.

The officials in the NIA revealed that RDX was clandestinely brought from Pakistan by terrorists. The improvised explosive device (IED) was prepared with the help of local supporters in Kashmir, who are named in the charge-sheet. The local supporters also provided accommodation to the JeM terrorists and helped with logistics.

“The explosives were sneaked in from across the borders on the nights when there would be no moon over a period of four months. This is a strategy that is used by the infiltrators wherein they wait for dark nights,” The Print quoted a source as saying.

The IED was stored in two containers, weighing 160 kg and 40 kg. They were installed on a car on 6 February 2019.

“The car was kept in the front-yard of Shakir Bashir’s house. Waiz-Ul-Islam ordered 4 kg of aluminium powder from his Amazon account at the directions of the accused, Mohammad Ismail and gave the same to him,” the official said.

Days before the attack, hundreds of WhatsApp calls were made to handlers in Pakistan and NIA has given pinpointed locations of these numbers in Pakistan. The voices were forensically matched.

    Training in Afghanistan
NIA also established the links between the terrorists to Al Qaeda, Taliban, and Haqqani-JeM in Afghanistan, apart from JeM, which claimed responsibility for the attack.

According to NIA, JeM was sending cadres to terrorist camps in Afghanistan to get the training in explosives.

The key accused, Farooq, was in Afghanistan during 2016-17 according to the NIA. In 2018 he entered India from Jammu and was inducted as Jaish-e-Mohammad Commander of Pulwama.

    Another Planned Attack Averted
“They had also planned to carry out another suicide attack, which was averted due to the Balakot strikes and due to the killing of the main conspirator, Mohd Umar Farooq, by the security forces. Furthermore, due to international pressure, Pakistan lay low,” the NIA said.

Indian warplanes retaliated for the suicide bomb and struck an alleged militant camp inside Pakistan. Pakistan shot down an Indian warplane in a subsequent air battle and took the pilot prisoner before returning him on 1 March.”

  4. Two Civilians Killed in Turkish Drone Airstrike in Northern Iraq
    https://sputniknews.com/middleeast/202008261080279985-two-civilians-killed-in-turkish-drone-airstrike-in-northern-iraq/

“Two civilians were killed in the result of an airstrike launched by a Turkish unmanned aerial vehicle late on Tuesday on a car in the town of Khana Sor located in the northern Iraqi province of Nineveh, the official Security Media Cell has said.

“Turkish drones violated the Iraqi airspace and targeted a double-cabin pick-up vehicle in the village of Bahrava in the Khana Sor area in the north of the Sinjar district at 7 p.m. on Tuesday evening [16:00 GMT], which resulted in the death of two civilians. The driver survived,” the service said in a statement, quoted by the state-run Iraqi News Agency.

Another site in Sinjar was also targeted, but a number of victims are yet unknown, the statement read, adding that ambulances rushed to the site of the incident to evacuate those killed and injured.

Northern Iraq is the Kurdish-populated region that Ankara regularly launches attacks on, as designates the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) as a terrorist group.

Turkey has been fighting the PKK, which seeks to establish a Kurdish autonomy in Turkey, since the early 1980s. The PKK and Ankara signed a ceasefire agreement in 2013, but it collapsed two years later over several terror attacks allegedly committed by PKK militants.

Since PKK military bases are located in northern Iraq, Ankara regularly conducts land and air operations in the region.

In mid-August, the Iraqi security forces also reported that at least two officers of the country’s border guard had been killed in an attack by a Turkish UAV.

In response, the Iraqi authorities cancelled a visit of Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar to Baghdad and summoned the Turkish ambassador to the Iraqi capital.”

To the filthy Turk (and maybe Andy Bostom), they’re all Maoist PKK terrorists. All of them over there, somewhere else…

Droning and bombing is ethnic cleansing. 300,000 civilians displaced. Remnants of minority populations in and around Sinjar are trying to identify the remains in mass graves.

  5. Erdogan Warns Greece Against Taking ‘Path to Ruin’ as Athens Announces Quadripartite Drills in Med (sputniknews, Aug 26, 2020)
    https://sputniknews.com/world/202008261080280568-erdogan-warns-greece-against-taking-path-to-ruin-as-gas-drilling-tensions-simmer/

“On Tuesday, German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas made an emergency visit to both Athens and Ankara to meet with his counterparts to try to soothe tensions in a dispute over who owns potentially-oil and gas-rich areas of the eastern Mediterranean. The same day, naval forces from both Greece and Turkey held drills off Crete.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has emphasized that Ankara would make “no concessions” to Greece in the Mediterranean, warning Greece against any provocations, and emphasizing that his country would take ‘what it deserves’ in the Mediterranean, as well as the Aegean and Black seas.

“We will not compromise what is ours…We are determined to do whatever is necessary,” Erdogan said, speaking at a ceremony Wednesday commemorating the anniversary of the Seljuk Turkish victory over the Byzantine Empire at the Battle of Manzikert in the year 1071.
“We invite our counterparts…to beware that any error could pave the way to their ruin,” Erdogan added.

Erdogan’s comments come in the wake of Greece’s announcement Wednesday that the Greek, French, Italian and Cypriot navies would carry out three days of joint military exercises south of Cyprus and the Greek island of Crete.

“Cyprus, Greece, France and Italy have agreed to deploy a joint presence in the eastern Mediterranean as part of a quadripartite cooperation intiative,” the Greek Defence Ministry said in a statement. “The tensions and instability in the eastern Mediterranean have heightened disputes on issues concerning maritime space,” the ministry added.

Greece accused Turkey of repeatedly violating the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, making it necessary for quartet cooperation to “enhance security and stability in the wider region and ensure freedom of navigation.”

The drills, dubbed the ‘Eunomia’ exercises, in reference to the minor Greek goddess of law and order, will run Wednesday through Friday off the southern course of Cyprus.

The French military confirmed its participation in the drills in a statement Wednesday, saying three Rafale jets and a frigate will take part.

    Hydrocarbon Dispute Fuels Escalation
Erdogan’s comments come following a statement by Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias on Tuesday warning that Greece was ready to “defend its sovereign rights” in the Mediterranean dispute.

German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas warned that “the current situation in the Mediterranean” is “equivalent to playing with fire,” and added that “every little spark can lead to catastrophe.”

Greece and Turkey held separate naval drills near one another off Crete on Tuesday, with Athens announcing the exercises and Ankara reciprocating after Turkey extended its Navtex advisory around the Oruc Reis, the Turkish ship at the heart of the dispute that’s drilling in an area off Antalya which Greece says is part of its maritime exclusive economic zone.

The dispute, which began earlier this month after the Oruc Reis began its drilling activities, has prompted both NATO nations to considerably beef up their presence in the Mediterranean, as well as the Aegean Sea – home to a separate, decades’-long spat over which country has rights to what islands.

The Turkish surveying ship began its operations just days after Greece and Egypt signed a maritime agreement on August 6 designating a vast, potentially hydrocarbon-rich area of the eastern Mediterranean Sea as their exclusive economic zones. Turkey, which signed an exclusive economic zone agreement with the Ankara-backed government in western Libya in late 2019, called the Greek-Egyptian deal illegitimate. Athens and Cairo, meanwhile, have dismissed the Turkish-Libyan deal, with the Greek government pointing out that it runs near major Greek island formations including Crete and Rhodes. Turkey says the area is part of its continental shelf.”

  6. Horses attacked across France: Police find two new cases with ‘genitals mutilated’
    https://www.express.co.uk/news/world/1327646/france-horse-attacks-mutilated-animal-cruelty-police-investigation-latest

“TWO new cases of horse mutilation have been discovered which are the latest in a spate of gruesome attacks across France. WARNING GRAPHIC CONTENT.

An investigation has been launched after two horses were mutilated in the Jura region over the weekend. The horrific discoveries follow a series of similar attacks across France.

The latest two horses were attacked in Ranchette and Leschères.

The animals had their genitals mutilated but survived.

The prosecutor of Lons-le-Saunier, Lionel Pascal, condemned the “barbaric acts”.

He added: “These are facts that hold my full attention and on which I asked all means available to put an end to these attacks which are pure cruelty.”

A probe into the latest grisly attacks is underway.

It comes after a horse was targeted in Cortambert, a village in the Saone-et-Loire region, earlier this month.

The horse’s right ear was cut off, one of its eyes was gouged out and its genitals had been cut away.

A local official said: “This is absolutely barbaric.”

A spokeswoman for Paris police said there had been about 10 similar cases across France since the start of the year.

She added that there were also incidents between 2014 and 2016 and that killings and mutilations of horses had been reported in the past in Belgium and Germany.

But the high number in France over such a short period is unprecedented.

She said: “We do not understand the motivation.

“Is it a satanic rite, insurance fraud, some macabre trophy hunt or an internet challenge?

“We don’t know. It is very traumatising.”

The police spokeswoman said all types of horses had been targeted.

She added that mutilation of an ear was a common factor in the sick attacks.

No meat had been taken from the bodies of the horses,

National police are assisting local investigations of cases and France has sent alerts to other European countries’ forces, she said.”

  9. Pope Francis: Unequal Wealth Means ‘the Economy Is Sick’ (breitbart, Aug 26, 2020)
    https://www.breitbart.com/economy/2020/08/26/pope-francis-unequal-wealth-means-the-economy-is-sick/

“Pope Francis said Wednesday unequal wealth among nations and individuals reveals a sick economy, “an injustice that cries out to heaven.”

The coronavirus pandemic “has exposed and aggravated social problems, above all that of inequality,” the pontiff told those following his live-streamed remarks delivered from Library of the Apostolic Palace in the Vatican.

“Some people can work from home, while this is impossible for many others,” he said. “Certain children, notwithstanding the difficulties involved, can continue to receive an academic education, while this has been abruptly interrupted for many, many others.”

“Some powerful nations can issue money to deal with the crisis, while this would mean mortgaging the future for others,” he added.

These economic differences are pathological, the pope suggested, signs of a “sick economy.”

“These symptoms of inequality reveal a social illness; it is a virus that comes from a sick economy,” Francis said. “And we must say it simply: the economy is sick. It has become ill. It is sick.”

This sickness “is the fruit of unequal economic growth – this is the illness: the fruit of unequal economic growth – that disregards fundamental human values,” he said.

“In today’s world, a few rich people possess more than all the rest of humanity. I will repeat this so that it makes us think: a few rich people, a small group, possess more than all the rest of humanity. This is pure statistics. This is an injustice that cries out to heaven!” he said.

The pope went on to suggest that such unequal economic growth is the fruit of greed and demands rectification.

“When the obsession to possess and dominate excludes millions of persons from having primary goods,” he said, “when economic and technological inequality are such that the social fabric is torn; and when dependence on unlimited material progress threatens our common home, then we cannot stand by and watch.”

It is unclear from the pope’s words how he believes equal economic growth among nations and individuals should be achieved, or whether it is merely a question of redistribution of all the world’s wealth equally among individuals.

Catholic social teaching has, however, consistently recognized the natural differences among persons and nations and insisted that economic homogeneity is an unworkable utopia.

In the first “social encyclical,” Pope Leo XIII’s 1891 text Rerum Novarum, the pontiff called for a healthy realism, bearing with “the condition of things inherent in human affairs” for “it is impossible to reduce civil society to one dead level,” as opposed to the Socialists’ utopian efforts toward perfect economic equality, since “all striving against nature is in vain.”

Leo called to mind that manifold differences naturally exist among persons: “people differ in capacity, skill, health, strength; and unequal fortune is a necessary result of unequal condition.”

At the same time, Leo insisted that these natural inequalities are not necessarily evil, either for individuals or for the larger community. In fact, he wrote, social and public life “can only be maintained by means of various kinds of capacity for business and the playing of many parts; and each man, as a rule, chooses the part which suits his own peculiar domestic condition.”

While the Catholic Church teaches that there are, indeed, “sinful inequalities that affect millions of men and women,” which stand “in open contradiction of the Gospel,” it also recognizes that not all inequalities are evil and the campaign to impose perfect economic equality would cause more harm than it would alleviate.”

  10. African Migrant: Cemetery Vandalism Was Offering to Satan (breitbart, Aug 26, 2020)
    https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2020/08/26/african-migrant-cemetery-vandalism-was-offering-to-satan/

“Two men have admitted to desecrating and vandalising 63 graves in a French cemetery earlier this month, claiming the act was an offering to Satan to help their musical careers.

The pair, aged 23 and 24, were arrested last week on the 18th of August and later confessed to the crime, with one of the men, a Cameroonian migrant named Fabien, saying that the destruction in the cemetery, which took place on August 9th in Lannemezan was a “pact with the devil to succeed in music.”

The migrant admitted to being in contact with a marabout, traditionally a Muslim scholar in Africa, in Mali who he claimed advised him “to remove what represents God and replace him with 666,” and to “make offerings to being opposed to God,” La République des Pyrénées reports.

The other man involved, named Jordan, said Fabien wanted to “invoke demons,” although it was pointed out that he participated in “incantations” himself.

The two men are said to be well-known to police in the Hautes-Pyrénées department and were arrested after one of the pair dropped his mobile phone at the scene of the crime and another left blood after injuring himself during the rampage.

The total damage to the cemetery is estimated at around 30,000 and prosecutors are looking for a prison term of 18 months for Fabien and 12 months for Jordan. In court, a statement of Fabien’s was read stating he could not rule out reoffending.

The attack on the cemetery is just the latest act of anti-christian vandalism or violence in France, which sees an estimated three anti-Christian attacks per day, according to a report released last year by the Central Criminal Intelligence Service (SCRC) of the gendarmerie.

Earlier this month in the commune of Niort, three statues were destroyed in repeated vandalism attacks at a historic church first built int he 11th century.

In May, an attack on a church in Bergerac in the Dordogne region saw thieves steal consecrated hosts, with L’Observatoire de la Christianophobie, a group dedicated to cataloguing anti-Christian attacks, noting that it too, may have been linked to Satanism.”

  12. Muslim Council: ‘Allahu Akbar’ Headlines Are Misleading, Implies Islam Motivates Attacks (breitbart, Aug 26, 2020)
    https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2020/08/26/muslim-council-allahu-akbar-headlines-are-misleading-implies-islam-motivates-attacks/

“The Muslim Council of Britain’s Centre for Media Monitoring (CfMM) has claimed that British media has placed a “disproportionate focus” on Islamic terrorist attacks and that headlines containing the Jihadi war-cry ‘Allahu Akbar’ are misleading as they claim it falsely links terrorism with the Islamic faith.

The report, entitled ‘How The British Media Reports Terrorism’, claimed that between 2015 and 2019, words or phrases identifying terrorists as Muslims are nine times more likely to be used in media reports than phrases identifying far-right or white-supremacist terrorist attacks.

The report also claimed that between October and December of 2018, one-quarter of online British media reports about Islam or Muslims were about terrorism or extremism.

Rizwana Hamid, the director of CfMM and one of the authors of the report, said according to The Times, that “inconsistencies remain, with a disproportionate focus on Muslims.”

She argued that “headlines using religious terms such as ‘Allahu Akbar’ imply that religion is always the motivator, ignoring other factors such as criminal history and mental health issues which may be at play, and which are often mentioned when the perpetrator is not Muslim.”

“Whilst there now appears to be a recognition of the importance of consistency and the scale of the far-right threat amongst the broadcasters, and most of the press, there is still a long way to go,” she said.

The Arabic phrase is often mistranslated in Western media as “God is great”, however, a more accurate translation would be “Allah is greater,” or “Allah Is Greater Than Your God or Government.”

The report laid out several recommendations for the media on how to report on terrorism including creating a consistent and transparent definition of what constitutes terrorism, avoid using the term “Allahu Akbar” as shorthand for a terrorist attack in headlines, and to not give platforms to supposed far-right or white supremacist voices.

“White-supremacist voices should only be platformed if their views can be adequately contextualised and challenged. An expert who is well versed with white supremacist thought should be used as an effective counterweight to challenge any claims such as the Great Replacement theory,” the report said.

“Classical Islamic scholars or notable academics could perform a similar role when myths on Islam and Muslims are being promulgated,” the report added.

One reason for the disproportionate focus on Islamic terrorism and extremism may be a result of the scale of terrorism committed by Muslim extremists in the UK.

In May of 2019, the Director-General of MI5 Andrew Parker wrote that “of the multiple terrorist threats facing the UK, Islamist terrorism remains the most acute.”

Mr Parker noted that “in 2018, 80 per cent (of instances dealt with) were conducted by people inspired by the ideology of IS but who had never actually been in contact with it in Syria or Iraq.”

Britain’s Security Service also admitted in May of last year, that the number of far-right terrorist suspects is “absolutely dwarfed” by the number of Islamic related terror cases.

This is put into perspective when considering the fact that Britain’s white population around 50 million, compared to the Muslim population in Britain is approximately 3,370,000 according to 2018 Office for National Statists figures, suggesting that despite having a far larger population to recruit from, far-right groups are much less successful proportionally than Islamic radicals in gaining people to their Jihadi cause.”

    https://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/yemeni-separatists-suspend-talks-govt-clashes-resume-72618382

“Fighting resumed in southern Yemen between Emirati-backed separatists and the internationally recognized government, officials said Wednesday. The renewed violence comes after the separatists suspended participation in talks to implement a Saudi-brokered peace deal.

The secessionist Southern Transitional Council, an umbrella group of militias backed by the UAE, said late Tuesday it informed Saudi Arabia of the suspension, accusing the government of Yemeni President Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi of mobilizing forces in the southern province of Abyan.

There was no immediate comment from Hadi’s government, and a spokesman for the Saudi-led coalition embroiled in a years-long conflict in Yemen was not available for comment.

The separatists’ announcement could thwart Saudi efforts to close a year-long rift amid a broader war against Iran-backed Houthi rebels.

Government forces allegedly have killed more than 75 separatist fighters in the flashpoint province of Abyan since June 22, when the two sides agreed to a cease-fire after months of infighting, the STC said.

The secessionist group also accused the government of not paying salaries and pensions in the southern provinces, particularly for military and security personnel.

Hours after the announcement, fighting resumed overnight between the separatists and government forces in Abyan, where Saudi-led coalition deployed troops in June to observe the cease-fire, officials from both sides said. They spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to reporters.

The secessionist council, comprised of heavily armed and well-financed militias propped up by the UAE since 2015, hopes to restore an independent southern Yemen, which existed from 1967 until unification in 1990.

The group declared self-rule over the key port city Aden and other southern provinces in April, before it abandoned its aspirations for self-rule late in July to implement the stalled peace agreement with Hadi’s government.

The power-sharing deal, signed in the Saudi capital of Riyadh last fall, sets the stage to end a long-running rivalry between the two sides. The agreement was never implemented.

Saudi Arabia last month proposed a plan to “accelerate” the deal’s implementation, which calls for the creation of a new government within 30 days and the appointment of a new governor and security director for Aden.

Tuesday’s development likely would abort these efforts and reopen a new front within the broader Yemeni conflict…”

“A major search and rescue operation in the eastern Aegean Sea was continuing after authorities received an emergency call late Tuesday from a vessel carrying an unknown number of migrants, Greece’s coast guard said early Wednesday.

A total of 96 people were rescued from the sea 21 nautical miles (31 kilometers, 24 miles) west of the small island of Halki, near Rhodes, the coast guard said Wednesday morning.

The migrants had been travelling in a yacht that was found partially sunk. It was not immediately clear what had caused the sinking, where the yacht had set sail for or what its intended destination was. A passenger used a cellphone to call a European emergency number late Tuesday.

The majority of those rescued were transported to the nearby island of Rhodes, the coast guard said, while some were taken to the smaller island of Karpathos…”

  19. Afghan watchdog: Half of police in some provinces use drugs (abcnews, Aug 26, 2020)
    https://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/afghan-watchdog-half-police-provinces-drugs-72621135

“Approximately half of all police in Afghanistan’s southern provinces use drugs and up to 70% of police positions in those regions are “ghost” positions not actually filled by a person, a new report released Wednesday by a U.S. government watchdog said.

The Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction, known as SIGAR, monitors the billions of dollars the U.S. spends in war-ravaged Afghanistan.

The report said Afghanistan’s Internal Security Directorate, partnering with the National Security Directorae, found that approximately 50% of all police in Kandahar, Zabul, Helmand and Uruzgan provinces used drugs. The report did not specify what kind of drugs.

The agencies also found that between 50% and 70% of police positions were “ghost soldier” jobs unfilled by real people.

The report comes as efforts appear to be ramping up to start negotiations between the Afghan government and the Taliban on Afghanistan’s future.

Across Afghanistan, the rosters of many units’ soldiers and police are filled with fake names or names of men who were killed in battle but never officially declared dead.

Tariq Arian, a spokesman for the Afghan Interior Ministry, said the ministry had received the report and would investigate.

Abdul Sattar Husseini, a lawmaker and member of parliament’s internal security committee disagreed with the report, but said he can’t deny that there are some drug users in the police ranks, He said around 25% to 30% of police might use drugs and the Interior Ministry was trying to identify them. He offered no evidence for those percentages.

According to Afghan authorities, there are more than 350,000 Afghan security forces, but neither the international community nor Afghan authorities knows how many soldiers and police exist or how many are available for duty at any given time.

The start of intra-Afghan talks, envisaged under a U.S.-Taliban peace agreement signed in February, has been hampered by delays that have frustrated Washington. Some had expected the negotiations to begin earlier this month.

The Taliban have held to their promise under the February agreement not to attack U.S. and NATO troops as required by the February deal but have been staging near-daily attacks on Afghan government forces. They say a permanent cease-fire will be part of the negotiations once they begin.”

  23. Labour MP Calls Brexit Supporters ‘Absolute Sh*tbag Racist W*nkers’ (breitbart, Aug 26, 2020)
    https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2020/08/26/labour-mp-calls-brexit-supporters-absolute-shtbag-racist-wnkers/

“In a late-night tweet, Labour MP Neil Coyle accused Brexiteers of being “absolute sh*tbag racist w*nkers”, in the ongoing row over the BBC’s decision to pull the lyrics of Rule, Britannia! and Land of Hope and Glory from this year’s Last Night of the Proms.

In the now-deleted tweet, the MP for Bermondsey and Old Southwark wrote: “I have spent years warning local people that these fat old racists won’t stop blaming the EU when their sh*t hits the fan. Here they come blaming others. Absolute sh*tbag racist w*nkers.”

Mr Coyle was responding to a post from Leader of the House of Commons of United Kingdom Jacob Rees Mogg who wrote: “Britons must never be enslaved by political correctness,” after Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s condemned the “wetness” of the BBC for scrapping the lyrics of patriotic songs.

The Labour politician also reportedly wrote: “If you didn’t hate it before, feel free to hate the song now. I’ve never known anyone but sh*tlickers like it tbh,” according to the Huffington Post.

Former Brexit Party MEP Martin Daubney suggested that the Labour MP was “drunk-tweeting” saying: “You just ensured a bunch more people abandon the “kinder, gentler” party that Labour has become.”

“Stop the drunk-tweeting and seriously think about why the working classes have abandoned you [Labour],” he said.

Brexit campaigner and political commentator Darren Grimes added: “Were you drunk when you wrote this tweet with unparliamentary language? Or are you just looking down your nose at those of us who aren’t ashamed of British culture? Same old Labour.”

British-American comedian David Baddiel also took aim at the patriotic British song, calling it a “C*nts Anthem”, in reference to a video clip showing Brexit leader Nigel Farage proudly singing the tune with supporters.

The decision to scrap the lyrics from the performance of Rule, Britannia! and Land of Hope and Glory came in part as a result from pressure from the Black Lives Matter movement in the UK, with the conductor of this year’s Last Night Orchestra — Finnish citizen Dalia Stasevska — reportedly being a “big supporter of Black Lives Matter”.

A BBC source told The Times on Tuesday that the left-leaning broadcaster’s upper management are a bunch of “white guys in a panic” when it comes to matters of race.

On Wednesday, the author of The Madness of Crowds and The Strange Death of Europe, Douglas Murray wrote in The Telegraph that he is “getting a little fed up with the shoe-horning of George Floyd into every aspect of our lives.”

“The Minnesotan policeman accused of killing him is currently in prison awaiting trial for murder. Literally nobody on earth is defending his actions. So it is slightly galling that anyone, at the BBC or anywhere else, should try to present his killing as some sort of Murder on the Orient Express effort involving every white person on earth,” Murray argued.

“Tens of thousands of members of the general public have already signed a petition to try to persuade the BBC that we know how to behave after a song or two. I hope they are successful. A country is made up of its traditions. This country is a decent one, and our traditions are too,” Murray concluded.”

  24. U.S. fast-forwards through radical playbook: Roving gangs compel speech, riots spark shootings
    By J.E. Dyer August 26, 2020

Back in June, the “summer of love” envisioned by Seattle Mayor Jenny Durkan came to an abrupt end when the so-called CHAZ “autonomous zone,” set up by radical Antifa and “black bloc” leftists in the downtown area, was the scene of multiple shootings that resulted in three homicides.

America seems to have forgotten that horrible consequence of driving the police out of the downtown Capitol Hill area, with the complicity of the Seattle City Council. It’s unlikely that there can ever be a full accounting of what happened to the three homicide victims; the Seattle police had no way to get in and establish crime-scene protocols in order to properly investigate.

That breakdown in the rule of law was a wrenchingly significant one that went largely unremarked. What we do about unjust deaths is one of the chief red lines of civilization, and we’re perilously close to crossing it.

Seattle’s city council went on to vote for a huge cut in police funding, pretty much guaranteeing that Seattle, at least, is going to cross that red line in the near future. The police chief, Carmen Best, tendered her resignation.

    • The behavior we are witnessing from the mob is nothing new; what’s different is the degree
By Ben Bowles August 26, 2020

Tearing down statues and other public symbols of “white supremacy? Check. Lobbing rocks or Molotov cocktails at police? Check. Smashing windows and committing acts of arson in the name of Black Lives Matter? Check. Looting? Check.

Add the latest offense — storming restaurants and harassing customers — and the list is complete. (RELATED: Tweet of the Day: #BlackBrunchMatters, hold the bacon)

All of these relics of revenge-mob mentality, supposedly carried out over police shootings of black men, date back to the Obama era. In fact, there was one additional symptom that happily hasn’t carried forward: the wholesale assassination of police officers as they sat in their cars

      https://libertyunyielding.com/2020/08/26/the-behavior-we-are-witnessing-from-the-mob-is-nothing-new-whats-different-is-the-degree/

      • Ben Bowles says that at least they aren’t going for the wholesale assassination of Police while they are setting in the cars filling out paperwork. That is the next stage of the urban guerrilla war they are fighting, I don’t know if it will start later this year after Trump wins or wait until the weather warms up next spring but it is coming.

    • JE is saying that the Boogaloo Boys are racist, I was under the impression they are Libertarians.

She is right about the movement fast forwarding through the various stages, the reason for this is the way PT is tearing down everything that Obama did and doing it to the cheers of the voters. The left is desperate knowing that if they give Trump 4 more years of success Pence will be elected in 2024 and that if he continues on the Trump path again in 2028. 16 years of Populist Conservative actions to restore liberty and freedom and the left will be set back over a Century and will be forced to start from scratch.

      • Much as I like him, I don’t think VP Pence has the charisma.
Maybe a smart and feisty fighter like Jim Jordan? Watch Nikki Haley run for the next four years.

        • I know what you mean about Pence, I threw his name out because he is VP and for no other reason. Jim Jordan, Nikki Haley, Josh Hawly. All of them are going to be running for the next 4 years what I hope is that who ever gets the Republican Nomination will have enough sense to maintain the Trump economic programs and put people who know business to be the negotiators for trade deals. They also need a lot of guts because the left isn’t going to stop their violence in the US or around the world. We will need to fight for survival for a long time and you know how the isolationists hate the idea of us doing anything that will keep the violence overseas.

          • PT will have to scrape down layers of the Executive bureaucracy and shut out military brass altogether. Let all that rot retire and move on to the usual corporate boards and lobbyist think tanks.

Our foreign policy machinery and the Pentagon have worked different sides, given contradictory messages. We look weak and irresolute.
(Which we are, but no need to advertise it.)

Americans don’t care much about foreign policy in election season. At other times, it’s marginal, an artifact of the MSM. Unfortunate – e.g. Vietnam War. Not all that different than India, in fact.

  26. Watch: Russian army chases US military in northeast Syria

The Russian army was filmed on Tuesday, chasing U.S. military vehicles traveling through the Al-Hasakah countryside in northeastern Syria.

According to field reports from northeastern Syria, Russian army vehicles, along with one of their choppers, was seen chasing U.S. military vehicles near the border-city of Al-Malikiyah in the eastern part of Al-Hasakah.

At least two videos of the incident were released on Wednesday, both showing the Russian army attempting to intercept the U.S. military vehicles in the Al-Hasakah countryside.

As shown in the longer second video, the Russian helicopter can be seen circling the U.S. troops that were traveling through the Al-Malikiyah District.

This is the second incident of this kind to take place in the Al-Hasakah countryside this week.

The first interception attempt took place east of the city of Qamishli, but no film of the incident was captured by locals.

Despite open channels of communication, the U.S. and Russian troops continue to engage these hostile acts against one another in northeastern Syria.

Former Vice President Joe Biden quoted former Chinese dictator Mao Zedong for at least the second time in a campaign appearance Sunday.

The moment came in an interview with ABC’s Robin Roberts, where Biden referenced one of Mao’s sayings regarding women’s rights. Mao’s declaration of gender equality came as part of his “great leap forward,” an effort to modernize a then-rural China that resulted in the deaths of more than 45 million people.

“As that old expression goes, ‘women hold up half the sky,’ and in order to be able to succeed, you’ve got to be dealt in across the board,” Biden told Roberts.

  31. Turkey Gave Hamas Members Passports, Israel Says
    https://english.aawsat.com/home/article/2471271/turkey-gave-hamas-members-passports-israel-says

“Turkey has given passports to a dozen Hamas members in Istanbul, a senior Israeli diplomat said on Wednesday, describing the move as “a very unfriendly step” which his government would raise with Turkish officials.

Speaking days after Turkey’s president met visiting Hamas leaders, charge d’affaires Roey Gilad said Israel had already told Turkey last year that Hamas was carrying out “terror-related activity” in Istanbul, but Turkey had not taken action.

The two countries have had a bitter falling out in recent years, despite strong commercial ties, expelling ambassadors in 2018. President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has repeatedly condemned Israel’s West Bank occupation and treatment of Palestinians.

Gilad said Israel had proof that Turkey was providing passports and identity cards to members of Hamas, which runs Gaza and is considered a terrorist organization by the United States, Israel and European Union.

“Some are in the process, some already got (the documents), but we are talking about around a dozen,” he said.

“We have already one document that we will present to the government in copy,” he said. “Judging by the last experience we had by presenting a well-based portfolio to the government… and getting no reply, I must say I don’t have high hopes that something will be done this time.”

Turkey’s Foreign Ministry did not immediately respond to a request for comment…”

  32. WITH UN DISCREDITED – GLOBALISTS PURSUE “LEAGUE OF DEMOCRACIES”
With the scandal-plagued United Nations increasingly marginalized and ridiculed as a “dictators club” in the United States, Deep State globalists appear to be pursuing a “Plan B” of sorts to move their agenda forward. Meet the proposed “League of Democracies,” a decades-old plot being rehabilitated and peddled by the global-government-promoting Council on Foreign Relations, the powerhouse Carnegie Foundation, U.K. Prime Minister Boris Johnson, and various propaganda organs of the globalist establishment. According to news reports, British Prime Minister Johnson’s government had already approached Washington, D.C., about it. If successful, globalists hope the proposed alliance of 10 “democracies” will quickly become a European Union-style entity advancing globalist goals. Less influential but still powerful globalist propaganda organs are all promoting the scheme too. “The United Kingdom’s D-10 is the right size and shape: neither too big, which reduces coherence; nor too small, covering only the Cold War West,” “D-10 is a golden opportunity for London to put some meat on the bones on the still unproven ‘Global Britain’ concept pitched by Johnson and others in the wake of Brexit.” Complaining that Trump has withdrawn from the Communist Chinese-controlled UN WHO and is still setting back globalism on various fronts, the CFR piece argues that the world “desperately needs a new institution that is both global in reach and unified in vision” — something along the lines of Johnson’s D-10. 34. Iran MPs submit motion to ban all ‘foreign messaging apps’
    https://english.alaraby.co.uk/english/news/2020/8/26/iran-bill-seeks-to-ban-all-foreign-messaging-apps

“Iranian lawmakers have submitted a motion to parliament banning all ‘foreign’ messaging apps, Radio Farda reported.

The bill, signed by 40 MPs, punishes anyone involved in distributing unlicensed social messaging apps, describing prison terms of up two years for violators, and fines of nearly $2000.

The bill targets anyone reproducing Virtual Private Networks (VPNs), or other internet circumvention tools.

Iran has a history of heavy-handed internet censorship. Facebook, Youtube and Twitter are blocked in the country, according to Radio Farda, despite officials’ prolific use of the platforms as propaganda tools.

The motion, which is called “Organising Social Media Messaging”, aims to replace foreign messaging apps with Iran-made ones and proposes the formation of a committee charged with licensing and monitoring the alternatives.

Many of the Islamic Republic’s state organs make up the planned committee, according to the motion, including the IRGC’s intelligence ministry and police, as well as the state-run radio and TV service.

Half of the shares of any government-approved substitute must be owned by an Iranian citizen, according to the bill, which requires the app is hosted within the country.

Cyberspace in Iran has emerged as a key battleground for ruling authorities. Hardliners have been obsessed with regulating social media – a place where anti-regime sentiments can inspire real-world dissidence.

Telegram, which is the most popular messaging app in Iran, is filtered by the government.

Last March, Paris-based Reporters Without Borders (RSP) named Iran’s cyber policing body among 20 of the world’s worst governmental and non-governmental silencers of social media usage.”

  35. Bosnian Muslim Family in France Faces Deportation After Abusing Daughter
    https://www.moroccoworldnews.com/2020/08/316582/bosnian-muslim-family-in-france-faces-deportation-after-abusing-daughter/

“A Bosnian Muslim family in France who severely beat and shaved the head of a 17-year-old daughter is set for deportation after their trial.

French authorities rejected the parents’ asylum request in December 2019, L’Est Republican reported, but pandemic border closures ultimately prevented their expulsion. The uncle and aunt involved in the abuse have refugee status, although Doubs Secretary-General Jean-Philippe Setbon said that “we can re-examine their situation and we will do it.”

French Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin condemned the act on Twitter on August 23, saying the family will be taken to the border after the legal proceedings as they have “nothing to do on French soil.”

The young woman sustained the abuse after she engaged in a relationship with a Christian Serb. She had fled her family’s apartment after they condemned talk of marriage to her boyfriend, and upon returning faced brutal abuse by her mother, father, uncle, and aunt.

The incident took place in the Clairs-Soleils district of Besancon, a city in Eastern France, close to the border with Switzerland, according to Agence France-Presse (AFP).

The four family members currently in custody, as well as the daughter, are originally from Bosnia and Herzegovina, and came to France in 2017.

The young woman started seeing the 20-year-old Serbian man 11 months ago, and initially kept the seriousness of their relationship a secret from her family.

On August 24, four days after fleeing her family’s apartment in France, the young woman, her boyfriend, and his family visited the Bosnian Muslim household in the low-income neighborhood of Besancon.

The situation quickly escalated, and the daughter was taken to a room in the apartment and brutally beaten. “She was shaved, according to her testimony, by her uncle — her father’s brother — while being beaten, Deputy Prosecutor Margaret Parietti told AFP.

The boyfriend and his family quickly alerted the authorities. After hearing the police sirens, the Bosnian Muslim family attempted to hide their daughter, but France’s police quickly located her and rushed her to the hospital.

The young woman was left with a broken rib, multiple bruises across her body, as well as potentially permanent damage to her ears.

Parietti said the four family members will be tried for violence against minors. The trial is set to occur in October.

The violent act is perhaps a result of a long history of ethnic tensions between the Muslim and Christian populations in the region. This history includes a violent war in the 1990s that resulted in the ethnic cleansing and genocide of Bosnian Muslims, as well as caused one of the worst refugee and humanitarian crises in Europe since WWII. “
