Reader’s Links for July 31, 2020

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

“POLICE have confirmed a victim was rushed to hospital with stab injuries after being attacked in Hackney, London.

Hackney police said a weapon was found near the scene of the crime and patrols are in place while the investigation continues. The male victim was rushed to hospital on Thursday night following the incident which took place in the early hours.

The victim’s condition is currently unknown.

A statement release by Hackney Police early on Friday morning said: “Police are on scene Broadway Market, E8 dealing with a stabbing.

“Victim is now at hospital awaiting update on condition.

“A weapon has been recovered nearby.

“Additional resources are in the area conducting patrols while we continue our investigation into this matter.”

A Met Police spokesman said one male was found at the scene in Hackney with stab injuries.

They said: “A crime is in place. Officers have not made any arrests.”

In a separate statement released on Friday morning, hackney Police said a Section 60 order is in place.

The statement said: “The Section 60 CJPOA authority for the whole of the London Borough of Hackney has been extended until 09.00hrs 31st July on the authority of D/Supt Courcha due to further incidents of violence involving the use of offensive weapons.”

Section 60 gives police officers the power to stop and search a person for items connected to violence.

Hackney residents reported on social media a helicopter was flying around the area during the night.

One witness who lives close to the scene said: “It started with the helicopter.

“I was on the phone with my girlfriend and it was so loud we struggled to talk at one point.”

He added: “Around one hour later loads of noise outside, people shouting.

“I go to my balcony and there were youths shouting and two running fast.

“This was on Scriven Street and they were running away towards Kingsland Road.

“Lots of police and sporadic fireworks close by.”

The witness said the helicopters were flying overhead every night since Sunday.

He added how the helicopters made it impossible to sleep.

Another local resident reacted to the helicopter noises in Hackney on Twitter.

They wrote: “Helicopters overhead, the noise is awful.

“Every night this week late at night into the early hours of the morning. It’s ruining our quality of life. This has got to end.”

One local hit out at those complaining and wrote on Twitter: “Major incident in Hackney London. more than 20+ teens running/biking about with large knifes.

“People out here complaining the police heli is disrupting their sleep.

    “More important things going.””

  2. Convicted jihadist arrested for terrorism financing
    https://nltimes.nl/2020/07/31/convicted-jihadist-arrested-terrorism-financing
Samir A., a convicted member of terrorist organization Hofstadgroep, was arrested in Rotterdam at the end of June on suspicion of terrorism financing, his lawyer Tamara Buruma said to NOS. He is suspected of raising money for women and children in ISIS territory and is still in custody, she said.

The Public Prosecution Service (OM) suspects A. of sending money to women “who traveled ot the Middle East to participate in violent jihad”. He took the money from these women’s family and acquaintances and sent it to them in the Middle East through others, including another man also arrested at the end of June, the OM believes. At this stage, A. is charged with violating the Sanctions Act, money laundering, and hawala banking – a form of unlicensed banking.

The FIOD, the tax service’s investigative department, searched four homes and commercial properties in the Rotterdam region on the same day that the two men were arrested. Investigators also spoke to relatives of the women involved.

According to lawyer Buruma, A. did not finance terrorism. “This involves women and children in camps in Kurdish area, whom he has sent money, food and medicines. Money never went to ISIS,” the lawyer said to NOS. According to her, the place where these children are kept is no longer ISIS territory. “The need in the camp is high.”

Samir A. is known as the leader of terrorist organization the Hofstadgroep, to which Mohammed B. – the man who murdered Theo van Gogh – also belonged. In 2006, A. was sentenced to nine years in prison for preparing terrorist attacks, among other things. He was released in 2013, after serving two-thirds of his sentence.

  9. Jihadi Orphans: UK to Extract Forgotten Kids of British Terrorists From Syria (sputniknews, Jul 31, 2020)
    https://sputniknews.com/uk/202007311080024316-jihadi-orphans-uk-to-extract-forgotten-kids-of-british-terrorists-from-syria/

“More than 60 children of suspected British jihadists are estimated to have been caught up in Syria as terrorists and their families fled the collapsing caliphate. The British government took an initial step last November when it repatriated three kids to the UK.

The United Kingdom will repatriate a “handful” of orphaned or abandoned children of British jihadists from Syria, The Sun reports.

The kids will be placed under the “supreme legal guardianship” of the High Court, meaning that the government will take care of them so that they don’t get exposed to extreme Islam and pose a threat to national security.

Currently, five children whose British parents are either dead or missing have been tracked and identified pending return to the UK, according to the report. Their citizenship status is unclear; there has been no word on whether there are further cases in the pipeline either.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson has previously shown sympathy with the children of British Daesh* suspects from Syria, saying the government “should help” them return to the UK where possible. In November, three orphans were brought back to the UK from Kurdish custody.

“These innocent, orphaned, children should never have been subjected to the horrors of war,” Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab said at the time. “We have facilitated their return home, because it was the right thing to do.”

The issue of how to deal with foreign citizens who joined the likes of Daesh in Syria and Iraq has long plagued Western governments. Thousands of suspected foreign fighters and their children are being held by Kurdish forces in impromptu detention camps in north-east Syria, which has been liberated from jihadists.

A US government report issued last August put their number at 2,000, well below the 4,000 estimate by the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (IDF), who helped drive Daesh out of that part of Syria. Some 70,000 women and children previously associated with the self-proclaimed caliphate remain in Kurdish camps. According to the charity Save the Children, at least 60 of those children are British.

Western governments, including the US and the UK, have largely resisted Kurdish calls to take them back, citing legal and logistical roadblocks…”

“Earlier, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said that the United States is expanding its metal sanctions against Iran to cover 22 additional materials used in various missile programmes.

Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei said that the US sanctions have made Iran stronger and more self-sufficient.

“America’s brutal sanctions on Iran are aimed at collapsing our economy … Their aim is to limit our influence in the region and to halt our missile and nuclear capabilities,” Khamenei said.
He added that the US dream to achieve its goals through sanctions and maximum pressure on Iran will never come true.

The nation’s Supreme Leader said that Iran will not halt its ballistic missile or nuclear programmes.

“Relying on national capabilities and cutting our dependence on oil exports will help us to resist America’s pressure,” Khamenei stressed.

Iran will not negotiate with the US, which is determined to curb Iran’s regional influence and end its progress, Khamenei added…”

A Sword Over the Nile: New Book Exposes 14 Centuries of Christian Persecution
    By Raymond Ibrahim
February 2015 was the first time many in the West had heard of the Copts, Egypt’s indigenous, Christian inhabitants. Then the Islamic State published what subsequently went viral — a gory video of its jihadi members savagely carving off the heads of 20 Copts and one Ghanaian by the shores of Libya because they refused to renounce Christ for Islam. Little known, however, is that, well before the Islamic State targeted and unwittingly “popularized” the Copts, countless other Muslims in modern Egypt — individuals, mobs, sheikhs, organizations (the Muslim Brotherhood, the Salafi Front), and even governmental authorities — had persecuted or at the very least discriminated against the nation’s Christian minority. Such oppression is often seen and presented in the West as an aberration. After all, have not Muslims and Christians lived in peace for centuries in Egypt? Does not the fact that Copts…(Read Full Article)

  16. Muslim leaders condemn last-minute lockdown announcement on eve of Eid as an ‘abuse of power’ – while Tory MP blames BAME community for causing coronavirus spike and ‘not taking social distancing seriously enough’ (dailymail, Jul 31, 2020)
    https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8580399/Muslim-leaders-condemn-minute-lockdown-announcement-eve-Eid-abuse-power.html

“Community leaders today branded the decision to lock down the north-west of England at the start of Eid ‘an appalling abuse of power’ and accused Boris Johnson’s Government of having ‘no regard for British Muslims’.

Mohammed Shafiq from the Ramadhan Foundation said the decision to ban 4.5million people mixing for at least a week will ruin plans for thousands celebrating the religious festival in Manchester, east Lancashire and West Yorkshire until Monday night.

Health Secretary Matt Hancock has been forced to deny he had targeted Eid when announcing the Covid-19 restrictions as the religious holiday was about to start – but British Muslims slammed his announcement as ‘shockingly short notice’.

Mr Shafiq said: ‘Already by the time the Government announced that on Twitter, families had already travelled to their loved ones’ homes and people have already started their Eid preparations. To make that decision on social media, with no regard for British Muslims is an appalling abuse of its power and shows how disconnected they are from wider society. I condemn the announcement and I hope they have learned a big lesson from this’.

The Muslim Council of Britain’s secretary general, Harun Khan, condemned the Government for making the announcement at ‘shockingly short notice’. He said: ‘With the first day of Eid being today, for Muslims in the affected areas it is like being told they cannot visit family and friends for Christmas on Christmas Eve itself’.

Labour Bolton MP, Yasmin Qureshi, said today: ‘For the Government to make a major public health announcement on the eve of Eid Al Adha (on Twitter) in haste, without clarity or guidance is beyond disruptive, it’s irresponsible’.

But today a Tory with a Parliamentary constituency on the edge of the lockdown zone accused ‘BAME communities of not taking this seriously enough’ as coronavirus cases have been rising in towns with large Muslim and minority populations such as Blackburn, Rochdale and Bradford.

Criag Whittaker, MP for the Calder Valley in West Yorkshire, told LBC: ‘If you look at the areas where we’ve seen rises and cases, the vast majority – but not by any stretch of the imagination all areas – it is the BAME communities.

‘We have areas of high multiple occupancy – when you have multiple families living in one household. It doesn’t specifically have to be in the Asian community, but that is the largest proportion. Look at the areas. You’ve got Bradford, Calderdale, Kirklees. Bradford and Kirklees have two of the largest populations in West Yorkshire’. When asked he was referring to the immigrant population, he said: ‘Immigrant and Asian population.’

Asked if he agreed with comments by a Tory MP in one of the impacted areas claiming that the BAME community was not taking the situation seriously enough, Boris Johnson said at today’s press conference: ‘On your first point about how the… are certain communities responding enough to the guidance – well, I think it’s up to all of us in Government to make sure that the message is being heard loud and clear by everybody across the country, and to make sure that everybody is complying with the guidance.’

The Prime Minister said: ‘I want to thank all the community leaders, I want to thank everybody, the mosques, the imams who have worked hard with us to get messages across.

‘All faith leaders and other community leaders getting that message across throughout society. But, ultimately it’s up everybody. It’s up to the whole country to get this right and do it together.’…”

  17. The luxury living I saw migrants getting on arrival shows the scale of the scandal (telegraph, Jul 31, 2020)
    https://www.telegraph.co.uk/politics/2020/07/31/luxury-living-saw-migrants-getting-arrival-shows-scale-scandal/

“Over the last few months, I have done my best to highlight the rapidly increasing numbers of illegal immigrants leaving the safety of France to cross the English Channel in inflatable dinghies and small boats in order to settle in the UK.

In 2018, it is thought that about 300 people made this journey. In 2019, this number had swelled to approximately 2,000. The trends of 2020 suggest that there will be in the region of 7,500 such arrivals.

Every day that brings calm conditions at sea heralds larger and larger numbers of people making this illegal journey. Usually, they are picked up in the English Channel and taken into the Port of Dover to be processed. After this, they are ushered into coaches that are lined up on the quayside but for some time now I have wondered: where do these people go? Now I can share with you an insight into what happens next….”

    • Farage Investigates: Brexit Leader Uncovers Hotel Refusing Brits While Housing 147 Migrants (breitbart, Jul 31, 2020)
      https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2020/07/31/nigel-farage-uncovers-hotel-refusing-brits-while-housing-147-migrants/

“Brexit Party leader Nigel Farage released an exposé film on Wednesday, visiting a hotel in England that has shut its doors to the British public while it houses migrants attempting to receive asylum status in the UK.

Mr Farage continued his journalistic endeavours to uncover the scale of the illegal migration epidemic in the United Kingdom, travelling to a hotel in Bromsgrove in the West Midlands, which he reported was housing 147 migrants, while refusing to take bookings from staycationing Britons.

In the film, Mr Farage was told by staff at the hotel — who admitted to working for the labour contracting company Serco, which provides asylum services for the government — that he was not allowed to film in the hotel and was forced to leave.

Responding to the discovery, Farage warned that if the asylum claims from the migrants staying in the hotel are rejected, “they will still stay in the country… picking fruit, working in the rag trade in Leicester or whatever it is. They will move into the illegal slave economy in this country.”

Mr Farage said that the Conservative government under Prime Minister Boris Johnson is “doing nothing about it”.

“There is a big sign on the White Cliffs of Dover, saying ‘everybody welcome’. It’s costing us a fortune,” he said, adding that the government has no idea who the migrants are who enter the country, warning that some migrants may ascribe to the Islamist ideology of ISIS.

“We have seen failed asylum seekers committing horrible acts in our country before. We should not be doing this,” he declared.

Each asylum seeker in the UK receives a weekly stipend from the government of at least £35.39, as well as government-provided accommodation and access to National Health Service (NHS) healthcare and taxpayer-funded education for children between the ages of five and 17.

The National Audit Office (NAO) report on Asylum Accommodation and Support released on July 3rd stated that there are currently some 48,000 asylum seekers receiving support from the government as of March 2020, more than doubling the total recorded in 2012.

The report expects the cost of housing and supporting the asylum seekers to be some £4 billion between 2019 and 2020. However, Mr Farage said that he believes this is a vast underestimate, warning that the British taxpayer will be on the hook for much more in aid.

The number of asylum seekers in the country is likely to be higher in reality as well, in light of the increased waves of illegal boat migration from France, with migrants sailing small rubber dinghies across the English Channel at an increased pace.

The cost of this programme by the British government has also come with a human toll. In June, a Sudanese migrant went on a stabbing spree inside his Glasgow hotel accomodation, injuring six people, including a police officer, David Whyte, who was critically injured.

The migrant, Badreddin Abadlla Adam, had reportedly complained about the hotel accommodation provided to him, reportedly telling friends that the meals that he received for free, which sometimes consisted of spaghetti and macaroni and cheese, were inadequate for his tastes.

Police shot Abadlla Adam dead during his stabbing spree. However, the damage he inflicted and the restrictions on public gatherings during the Chinese coronavirus did not stop hundreds from illegally attending his funeral earlier this month.

Mr Farage has taken it upon himself to document the growing problem of illegal migration in the Channel, claiming that the mainstream media is wrong to overlook the issue and that they are “out of touch” with the British public.

In May, the arch-Brexiteer filmed an “absolutely packed” and “massively overcrowded” small rubber boat in the middle of the English Channel. In his report, Mr Farage accused the French Navy of actively escorting illegal migrant boats into British territorial waters, before handing them over to UK Border Force.

This claim was backed up by reporting from Breitbart London’s Oliver Lane, who revealed that the French Navy’s own transponder data showed the French not only handed over migrants in Mr Farage’s film but had performed a similar migrant boat handover the week prior.

So far this year, there have been over 3,285 migrants recorded to have reached British shores by illegally crossing the Channel, with an estimated 14 more boats arriving near Dover on Thursday morning, according to the Daily Mail.

Several of the migrants were pictured taking selfies as they sunned themselves on the beach after their arrival.”

  18. Sweden: Somali Taxi Driver Arrested for Running Several People Over Has History of Criminality (breitbart, Jul 31, 2020)
    https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2020/07/31/sweden-somali-taxi-driver-arrested-attempted-murder-history-criminality/

“A Somalian migrant taxi driver, who was arrested for trying to run several people over with his vehicle, has a history of criminal behaviour including claims of sexual abuse of a child and assaulting female Swedish police.

The alleged attempted murder took place last Friday in the municipality of Borlänge. The Somalian allegedly drove his taxi into five people on purpose, with prosecutor Eva-Lena Jansson stating he was detained on four counts of aggravated assault and one of attempted murder.

Jansson did not give away many details regarding the case but said the 27-year-old Somalian was acquainted with one of the victims, and the attack may have arisen from an ongoing conflict, Nyheter Idag reports.

The Somalian migrant came to Sweden in 2011. According to Aftonbladet, he had been reported for child sex abuse. The newspaper claimed that the male relative of a teenage girl who filed a complaint of sexual assault against the migrant had been one of the victims in the car rampage.

In January of 2014, the Somalian was involved in another incident at a social welfare office in Borlänge where he came to claim some money. The migrant became angered because the office was about to close, and he was told to return another day.

Two female police, dressed in plainclothes, arrived on the scene and told the man he had to leave. But the officers said the Somalian became angry with them, with one saying: “He erupts and becomes clearly irritated and comes out with the claim that we can just easily shoot him. He says he also has a gun, in Africa. He says that we are racists, that we do not show him respect, and so on and so on.”

The two officers attempted to arrest the man but were met with violent resistance. They called for backup, and when a male colleague arrived on the scene, the Somalian stopped resisting, with one of the female officers saying the migrant “looks almost terrified”.

In neighbouring Norway, young Somalian male migrants are heavily over-represented in crime statistics, and particularly violent crime where they have a rate of 419 violent crimes per 1,000 people compared to 34 per 1,000 for native Norwegians.

Somalian migrants have also had great difficulty finding work in some countries such as Switzerland where over 80 per cent are on state welfare, the highest rate of any nationality in the country.”

  19. Marine Le Pen Vows to Deport Criminal Migrants If Elected President in 2022 (breitbart, Jul 31, 2020)
    https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2020/07/31/marine-le-pen-vows-deport-criminal-migrants-elected-president-2022/

“Populist leader Marine Le Pen has vowed to deport any and all criminal migrants if she wins the French presidency in 2022.

The National Rally (RN) leader released a video earlier this week on Twitter saying that she wanted to combat the “ensauvagement” of society, a French term describing the growing and ongoing lawless, and often violent, behaviour in certain parts of the country.

“The role of a politician, let alone a government, is not to comment, denounce or condemn, but to act,” Le Pen said. She highlighted a recent Odoxa poll that claimed up to 68 per cent of the French public felt they were not safe in their day-to-day lives, the highest result in four years, RTL reports.

“When the time comes to exercise power, I will not tremble: the offenders will be put back in their place, that is to say in prison if they are French, and on the plane, if they are foreigners,” Le Pen added.

Le Pen’s comments come after new French Prime Minister Jean Castex announced the government would be looking at extending the powers of municipal police on a trial basis in the city of Nice but did not go into details of the scope of the new powers.

In recent months, even during the Wuhan coronavirus lockdown, France has seen no-go neighbourhoods across the country explode into riots and violence, often connected to allegations of police brutality.

Attacks on police and firefighters have been constant as well, with police in the department of Yvelines claiming in April that they had been targetted by attacks nearly every day for around two weeks.

Some police have become so afraid of the consequences of being accused of police brutality or racism that they have even let people assault them, as was the case with two plainclothes officers in Le Mans last month.

“I did not want to hit her because it was a woman, black moreover. With the particular context of the moment, I especially didn’t want us to talk about police violence,” an officer said after being hit in the face by a woman.”

  20. 22 migrant kids with medical needs go to Germany from Greece (abcnews, Jul 29, 2020)
    https://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/22-migrant-kids-medical-germany-greece-72099487

“Another 22 children with medical needs who have been living in migrant camps in Greece arrived in Germany on Friday along with their close relatives, the German government said.

In all, 90 people were on board a flight that landed at Berlin’s Schoenefeld airport, the interior ministry said. It added that 46 of them were from Afghanistan and 18 from Syria, while the rest were Iraqis, Palestinians, Somalis, Congolese and Cameroonians. They will be shared out among several German states.

Friday’s transfer is part of a wider effort to get hundreds of vulnerable children out of camps on the Greek islands, and comes a week after 18 children and their families — 83 people in all — were flown to Kassel, in central Germany.

Germany says it has agreed to take in a total of 243 children “who need medical treatment” from Greece, as well their closest relatives, 928 people in all.

In April, a group of 47 unaccompanied children evacuated from the overcrowded Greek camps landed in Germany. Luxembourg and Portugal also have taken in minors from Greece, and other European Union countries have agreed to, as well, in principle.”

  21. US says man gunned down in Pakistani court was American (abcnews, Jul 29, 2020)
    https://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/us-man-gunned-pakistani-court-american-72099769

“A man gunned down this week in a Pakistani courtroom while standing trial on a charge of blasphemy was a U.S. citizen, according to a U.S. State Department statement.

Tahir Naseem was “lured to Pakistan” from his home in Illinois and entrapped by the country’s blasphemy laws, which international rights groups have sought to have repealed, the statement issued late Thursday said. It did not elaborate on the circumstances in which Naseem came to be in the South Asian country.

Pakistan’s controversial blasphemy law calls for the death penalty for anyone found guilty of insulting Islam but in Pakistan the mere allegation of blasphemy can cause mobs to riot and vigilantes to commit murder.

“We are shocked, saddened, and outraged that American citizen Tahir Naseem was killed yesterday inside a Pakistani courtroom,” the State Department statement read.

Pakistani officials said Naseem was charged with blasphemy after he declared himself a prophet. Police in northwest Peshawar province originally identified him as Tahir Shameem Ahmed, but later corrected themselves.

There was no immediate comment from Pakistani authorities and the assailant, identified as Khalid Khan, was arrested. It wasn’t clear how he entered the courtroom and managed to get past security with a weapon. Naseem died before he could be transported to a hospital.

“We urge Pakistan to immediately reform its often abused blasphemy laws and its court system, which allow such abuses to occur, and to ensure that the suspect is prosecuted to the full extent of the law,” said the statement issued by Cale Brown, the State Department’s principal deputy spokesperson.

Although Pakistani authorities have yet to carry out a death sentence for blasphemy, there are scores of accused on death row. Most are Muslims and many belong to the Ahmadyya sect of Islam, reviled by mainstream Muslims as heretics.

Besides the State Department, the U.S. Commission on International Freedom condemned the killing.

“Pakistan’s blasphemy laws are indefensible to begin with, but it is outrageous beyond belief that the Pakistani government was incapable of keeping an individual from being murdered within a court of law for his faith, and a U.S. citizen, nonetheless,” Commissioner Johnnie Moore said in a statement.

“Pakistan must protect religious minorities, including individuals accused of blasphemy, in order to prevent such unimaginable tragedies,” Moore said in the statement.

The Commission declared Pakistan a “country of particular concern” in its 2020 report released last month because of its treatment of minorities.

Religious minorities in Pakistan are increasingly under attack even as Prime Minister Imran Khan preaches a “tolerant” Pakistan. Observers warn of even tougher times ahead as Khan vacillates between trying to forge a pluralistic nation and his conservative Islamic beliefs.

A Punjab governor was killed by his own guard in 2011 after he defended a Christian woman, Asia Bibi, who was accused of blasphemy. She was acquitted after spending eight years on death row in a case that drew international media attention. Faced with death threats from Islamic extremists upon her release, she flew to Canada to join her daughters last year.”

  22. Afghan president: 400 Taliban prisoners to remain in custody (abcnews, Jul 31, 2020)
    https://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/afghan-president-400-taliban-prisoners-remain-custody-72098145

“Afghan President Ashraf Ghani dashed hopes Friday for a start to negotiations with Taliban insurgents, announcing the final 400 Taliban prisoners whose release is a prerequisite to start talks, will remain jailed. The announcement frustrates U.S. efforts to find an end to Afghanistan’s years of relentless war.

Addressing the nation on the Muslim holy day of Eid ul Adha, Ghani said the 400 Taliban are convicted of crimes he has no authority to forgive. Instead, he will call a loya jirga — or traditional grand council of elders — to decide whether they should go free. He said the council would meet “shortly.”

Ghani’s announcement was certain to delay the start of negotiations between the warring sides and frustrate Washington’s efforts to bring an early end to hostilities, even as they scale down their presence in Afghanistan…”

  23. Afghan officials say Pakistani rockets kill 9, wound 50 (abcnews, Jul 31, 2020)
    https://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/afghan-officials-pakistani-rockets-kill-wound-50-72100482

“Pakistan fired a barrage of rockets across its southwestern border killing nine people and wounding 50 in an Afghan border town, Afghan officials said Friday.

The exchange of fire that led to casualties in the town of Spinboldak was instigated by Afghan border guards, Pakistan security officials said. It was the latest cross-border exchange between the two countries. Earlier this month, Pakistan fired rockets into Afghanistan’s northeastern Kunar province killing three people.

Cross-border exchanges have increased since Pakistan began raising a fence along its 2,500-kilometer (1,500-mile) border with Afghanistan known as the Durand Line. Pakistan considers the colonial-era division created in 1893 as an international border, while Afghanistan flatly rejects it.

Pakistan began building the fence in 2017 and since then the two sides have routinely exchanged fire. Pakistan says it needs the fence to block militants from crossing. Both Pakistan and Afghanistan accuse the other of harboring their enemies.

Pakistan has been widely accused by Kabul and the U.S. of providing safe haven to Taliban insurgents, while Islamabad says insurgents have found a sanctuary in Afghanistan’s southern Kandahar. Those include the Baluchistan Liberation Army, who attacked the Stock Exchange building in southern Karachi on June 29.

Pakistan also says anti-government Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) insurgents are hiding in Afghanistan.

A U.N. report earlier this month said up to 6,500 Pakistani militants, most of them belonging to the TTP, are hiding in Afghanistan, with links to the Islamic State affiliate there and a threat to both Pakistan and Afghanistan.

On Friday, an Afghan Defense Ministry statement said rockets fired by Pakistan pummeled Spinboldak late Thursday. The statement said Afghan security forces retaliated.

Yet two Pakistani security officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to the media, said Friday the Afghan security forces initiated the attack…”

  24. Pakistan police kill 5 separatists, say they foiled attacks (abcnews, Jul 31, 2020)
    https://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/pakistan-police-kill-separatists-foiled-attacks-72098442

“Counterterrorism police acting on intelligence raided a suspected militant hideout in a remote town in eastern Pakistan early Friday, triggering a shootout that killed five members of a separatist group, a spokesman said.

Kaleem Qureshi, spokesman for the country’s Counter-Terrorism Department, said officers seized a bomb and weapons from the hideout of the slain men in the town of Rajanpur in Punjab province.

He said the raid foiled possible terrorist attacks on gas pipelines and railway tracks by members of the Baluch Republican Army, a small separatist group operating in southwestern Baluchistan province for the past several years. It usually targets security forces and authorities have said it has the support of foreign intelligence agencies.

Baluchistan has for years been the location of a low-level insurgency by small separatist groups and nationalists who complain of discrimination and demand a fairer share of their province’s resources and wealth.”

  25. Rotherham: Anger After ‘Asian Community’ Cafe Licence Rejected over Child Sex Exploitation Concerns (breitbart, Jul 31, 2020)
    https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2020/07/31/rotherham-asian-cafe-grooming-concerns/

“Plans for a late-night Pakistan-themed food and drink venue have been rejected after concerns about local child sex exploitation and anti-social behaviour were raised by police and local government.

The rejected plans would have seen hot drinks and snacks served between 11pm and 2am from a container unit in the car park of a car wash in Rotherham, South Yorkshire. The applicant claimed that the container would serve as a meeting place for the “Asian” community late at night, and as a refuge for Muslim women fleeing “hate crime” in the Yorkshire town, according to The Huddersfield Daily Examiner at YorkshireLive.

But councillors rejected the application after parties including South Yorkshire Police and Rotherham Council’s children and young people’s service highlighted fears over increased anti-social behaviour in the area, which is thought to be a hotspot for child sexual exploitation and prostitution. A local Muslim defence group has slammed the decision, saying the local government is tarring all Pakistanis in the area with the same brush after a series of high-profile child sex scandals involving the local community.

Rotherham Council’s Keeley Ladlow told a virtual meeting of the licensing sub-committee this month in comments reported by YorkshireLive that “the main concern is an increase in anti-social behaviour that might occur from the premises being open between 11 pm and 2 am”. She noted that the Eastwood neighbourhood where the car wash is located is “an area of concern regarding child sexual and criminal exploitation”.

“There’s also been significant work in intelligence to suggest that there is the offering of young women to men in vehicles to engage in sexual activity, and also prostitution in the area,” she said.

Ms Ladlow, who is senior licensing enforcement officer at the council, added that the area around the car wash and container unit is regularly filled “with young children who are missing from home, who can often be seen walking and playing on Fitzwilliam Road ‘very late into the night’”.

South Yorkshire Police also raised concerns, telling the virtual meeting that it “could lead to an increase in anti-social behaviour in an area that is already subject to a public space protection order.”

A representative of the business argued that it was necessary to have the late-night license so that, as YorkshireLive described, “members of the Asian community would have somewhere to eat a late evening meal and socialise over tea”. He said the business had given free meals to NHS workers and wanted to put something into the community, saying there was a lack of hangouts for the Asian community in Rotherham.

Further, the company’s representative said the container in the car park of a car wash would “provide a place for women in the community who do not want to go to bars and pubs because of their religion or fear of hate crime a place to go in the evenings”.

As local newspaper The Sheffield Star reports, some in the community have now objected to the venue being rejected on child protection grounds. The paper cites the remarks of Muhbeen Hussain, the founder and leader of the ‘British Muslim Youth’ organisation — who was profiled in a January 2020 Guardian article about Muslim “neighbourhood protection groups” offering protection for mosques and imams — whose group said the decision of the council had exposed their “racism”.

Hussain told the paper: “I have no words at how Rotherham Council is treating the local Pakistani Muslim Community. For too long, the crimes of few that we all stand against, have been levelled at the whole community.

“I have never heard of people being I.D’d for buying a cup of tea. The conditions that were placed on this business are so absurd, and yet everyone on this Licensing Committee including the representatives from the council and the police saw this as perfectly normal. This is why it is so dangerous.

“This is what happens when you become a suspect community. Criminals are criminals but will the whole community have to pay a price for a crime they have not committed?”.

In an open letter to the leader of the town council, Hussain demanded the town fire the whole licensing committee and replace the members with “a new diverse panel”, that elected councillors be suspended, that all future decisions be made through a lens of “BAME people”, and that all council employees undergo bias training. To do any less, he said, would make the leader of the council “complicit in this racist and discriminatory culture.”

Earlier this year it was found that police in Rotherham ignored decades of sexual abuse by ‘Asian’ grooming gangs against young girls for fear that racial tensions would “erupt” in the minster town.

A report from the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) in January revealed that a chief inspector had told the father of a girl that “we can’t afford for this to be coming out as Rotherham would erupt”, due to the fact that perpetrators of the abuse were “Asians”.

Describing the epidemic of abuse as “P*** shagging”, the policeman admitted he was aware that it “had been going on for 30 years and the police could do nothing because of racial tensions”.

“With it being Asians, we can’t afford for this to be coming out as Rotherham would erupt,” said the chief inspector.

Grooming gang victim Sammy Woodhouse spoke out last year after figures from local authorities exposed how almost 19,000 children had been sexually groomed over a period of 12 months.

Asserting that authorities have failed to bring in any meaningful changes since the extent of sexual abuse in the town was revealed, she said claims that “lessons have been learned” were “bulls***”.

“I’ve said for years that this country’s in epidemic when it comes to abuse and exploitation. Authorities claim it’s under control but it’s not,” the Rotherham survivor stated.”

  26. New Daily Record for Illegal Channel Crossings as 202 Migrants Reach England (breitbart, Jul 31, 2020)
    https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2020/07/31/new-daily-record-illegal-channel-crossings-202-migrants-reach-england/

“Yet another daily record has been set for illegal aliens crossing the English Channel in small boats, with the Border Force bringing 202 migrants from 20 boats ashore.

The Daily Mail suggested that the true figure could “could be even higher because the Border Force records only include intercepted boats” and at least two contingents of migrants were not met at sea but inland, having reached the shore by themselves.

“The number of illegal small boat crossings we are seeing from France is unacceptably high,” commented Home Office minister Chris Philp, as if his department was not ultimately responsible for stopping them.

“France have stopped thousands of migrants this year and they stopped more today,” he claimed — but conceded that “more needs to be done.”

“We need stronger enforcement measures, including interceptions at sea and direct return of boats and the French have heard that directly from the Home Secretary,” referring to the department’s top minister, Priti Patel.

Patel has spoken of her “determination” to put an end to the Channel crisis for months now, yet new records for arrivals continue to be set — and Boris Johnson’s government remains unwilling to simply turn back or immediately deport the illegal arrivals back to France, which is a safe, first world EU member-state where migrants face no danger from the state.

Brexit Party leader Nigel Farage, who has arguably done more than anyone else to expose the situation in the Channel, putting to sea to confirm that rumoured handovers of boat migrants to the British authorities by the French with a video team, sarcastically upbraided Priti Patel over the new record, remarking “Looks like you’re going to need more hotels”.

The former UKIP and Brexit Party supremo had earlier been to a hotel in Bromsgrove — the constituency of the previous Home Secretary, Sajid Javid — and confirmed it was fully booked hosting migrants believed to have crossed the Channel at public expense, some of whom were making local girls uncomfortable, according to locals.

In March, one migrant being housed at another hotel in Glasgow, Badreddin Abadlla Adam, went on a stabbing spree, seriously wounding six people including a police officer, with fellow residents and pro-migration activists suggesting he was unhappy with the hotel’s facilities — which included a free laundry service, free WiFi, and free but “culturally inappropriate” meals.

Hundreds attended his funeral in open and seemingly unpunished defiance of Scotland’s anti-coronavirus laws.

It was not reported that the Sudanese man reached Britain via boat, however.”

  27. Connecticut man charged with beheading landlord with samurai sword over rent dispute
By Howard Portnoy July 31, 2020

To quote the eminently quotable Marc Lamont Hill, “People behead for all sorts of reasons.” In the case that prompted Hill’s observation, a Muslim had convert decapitated a coworker, and Hill was rejecting his fellow panelists’ characterization of the man as a terrorist as well as the unstated implication that Islam is a religion of violence.

In the current case, the beheading was occasioned by a rent dispute. According to the Hartford Courant, the suspect, 42-year-old Jerry David Thompson used a samurai sword to decapitate his landlord, Victor King, after the two had an argument about Thompson’s failure to pay rent. During the dispute, Thompson, who lived in King’s house, threatened to murder him, brandishing the weapon to show he meant business.

King was so alarmed that he phoned the Hartford police. A day later, friends of his called police to report they could not reach him. Police and firefighters forced their way into King’s home and found a lot of blood and King’s badly slashed body covered in bedding.

  28. More than half of India’s Mumbai slum residents may have been infected with Covid-19, study suggests

By Julia Hollingsworth and Esha Mitra, CNN

More than half of residents living in Mumbai’s crowded slums may have contracted coronavirus and are likely being infected at a much higher rate than those not living in slum areas, a new study has found.
The study released Tuesday raises questions over the level of testing in India, which has the third highest number of confirmed cases in the world after the United States and Brazil.
On Wednesday, India reported it had crossed 1.5 million reported coronavirus cases after more than half a million infections were recorded in just 12 days. It took nearly six months for India to reach its first 1 million confirmed cases.

  29. The US ‘Gun Culture’ That Saved Europe does not occur in a vacuum

    Miguel A. Faria, M.D. | Jul 31, 2020 | Commentary | 5

Europeans like to decry violence in America, calling it “America’s gun culture” while forgetting their share of political mayhem in their own house, including violence perpetrated by Jihadists as well as their own left-wing terrorists. But I enjoy reminding them that it was America’s “gun culture” that liberated Western Europeans from the Nazis during World War II and subsequently also protected all of free Europe from the Red Army and the rolling Soviet tanks during the Cold War. Moreover, I also like to remind them that they as pusillanimous Europeans may require further protection from the U.S. “gun culture” in the future!

I also like to explain to them that it has been because of the protection afforded by the American “gun culture” that Europeans have been able to create and sustain in peace the social and economic “safety nets” of which they are so proud.

I don’t put them down to offend them. I proceed with a little history and another concept that progressive gun prohibitionists are unable to grasp about America’s “gun culture,” and that is that while it’s true that many Americans, particularly in rural areas and most of the South, grow up around guns and hunting—that salutary tradition of the outdoors reinforces Americans inherent patriotism, a patriotism and outlook that Americans inherited along with a legacy of freedom.

  32. White Coat Supremacy and Cancel Culture

Anthony Fauci’s record of attacking dissenters and suppressing the truth.
    July 31, 2020
    Lloyd Billingsley

Long before he attained celebrity status with the White House Coronavirus Task Force, Dr. Anthony Fauci pioneered what is now called “cancel culture.” The victim was a medical scientists far more qualified than Fauci himself.

Anthony Fauci earned a medical degree but his bio shows no earned PhD in molecular biology or biochemistry. In 1984 as head National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), Fauci contended that AIDS was caused by a virus known as HIV. Peter H. Duesberg, professor of molecular and cell biology at UC Berkeley, found no scientific evidence for that claim.

As he explained in his magisterial Inventing the AIDS Virus, HIV is “one of the many harmless passenger viruses that cause no clinical symptoms during the acute infection, ” and Duesberg was hardly alone. Scientists challenging the HIV-AIDS hypothesis included Nobel laureate Kary Mullis; Charles Thomas, former professor of microbiology at Harvard; and biologist and science historian Robert Root-Bernstein, author of Rethinking AIDS.

  33. Is This Racist?

Objective facts v. explosive feelings in allegations of racism.
    July 31, 2020
    Danusha V. Goska

BLM activists and their supporters allege that America is “systemically racist” and must undergo a cleansing purge in order that a new Utopia may be established. This Utopia will not eliminate white people’s racism; their racism is “timeless and immutable.” Whiteness studies, according to columnist Barbara Kay, teaches that to be white is to be “branded, literally in the flesh, with evidence of a kind of original sin … you can’t eradicate it. The goal … is to entrench permanent race consciousness in everyone – eternal victimhood for non-whites, eternal guilt for whites.” The taxpayer-funded Smithsonian National Museum of African American History & Culture offers explanatory material, and a Smithsonian poster on whiteness provides a handy summary. Bestselling race guru Robin Diangelo says that no white person should ever be allowed to say “I’m not racist.” Unlike previous leftist Utopias, this post-BLM Utopia will not create a “new man,” in the way that communists attempt to create a “New Socialist Man.” Indeed, evidence suggests that at this very moment Communist China is brainwashing Uighurs to turn them into “New Socialist Men.” Rather, the BLM Utopia will not cleanse white people, it will merely permanently blame, shame and cow them.

A bulldozer is ploughing through American history and culture and unearthing more and more “evidence” that America is “systemically racist” and must be cleansed and purged. Are objective facts being marshalled to support these charges and this purge? Or are emotions, or even mass hysteria, ruling the day? Is it the case that all non-whites agree with these charges of racism, and is it only whites, psychologically handicapped by “white privilege” and “white fragility” who disagree? Is American history being told accurately, or is it being distorted to serve a master narrative of systemic racism under every rock, behind every door, and in every white man’s heart? Below I will consider three different sets of allegations of racism, and conclude with a discussion of a classroom exercise that both educated and disturbed me.

  34. Death sentence for Boston marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev overturned by US Appeals Court

The 1st US Circuit Court of Appeals in Boston has overturned the death sentence handed down to Dzhokhar Tsarnaev in 2015 for his part in the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing.
Tsarnaev’s conviction for helping to carry out the bombing that left three people dead and over 260 injured is being upheld, but a new trial will take place to determine a different sentence.

His attorney argued in December 2019 to the Appeals Court that his 26-year-old client’s death sentence was the product of an unfair trial, one which took place in Boston, despite objections. Attorney Daniel Habib claimed the city’s anger over the attack “filtered” through the jury and the massive media coverage of the event meant no juror could be impartial.

Tsarnaev carried out the bombing with his brother, Tamerlan, who was killed by police in the days after the April 15 attack.
