This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

Tomio Okamura, the leader of the right-wing political movement Freedom and Direct Democracy (SPD), lost his original video channel on YouTube on July 24 as he depicted the violence by migrants in Europe, Okamura said on in a post on his still-active Facebook account, adding that the move came without warning.

    Okamura has established a new YouTube channel that had four videos as of the morning of July 27. None of the videos so far depicted violence. The new page has 1,580 followers.

    The YouTube move follows more than a week after Facebook warned Okamura as well as SPD Deputy Chairman Radim Fiala that their Facebook accounts risk being deleted, as does the official SPD page, for violations of Facebook’s rules on community standards.

  10. Germany: Turk stabs a passenger in a public bus and injures him seriously

    Bloody deed on the public bus 601 on Monday afternoon in Bonn!

    According to police, the bus was travelling near the main station with several passengers on board. Around 4 p.m. the shocking incident occurred: a man (55 years old) attacked another passenger (22 years old) on the bus, allegedly using a knife, according to investigators.The victim suffered life-threatening injuries, was taken to hospital after emergency medical treatment, where the 22-year-old underwent emergency surgery. His condition is still serious, police said on Tuesday. According to information from the newspaper “Bild”, the young man suffered stab wounds to his upper body and head. A video camera that was installed in the bus recorded the attack. The perpetrator is a man of Turkish origin, the victim is German.Police officers were able to make a provisional arrest of the suspect on the spot. Apparently another passenger bravely intervened – and not only prevented worse from happening, but also overpowered the knife man and incapacitated him so that the police could arrest him. The perpetrator himself suffered an injury to his hand, which was treated as an outpatient in a hospital. The attacker then was brought to police headquarters for questioning.Around twenty passengers who witnessed the extremely brutal attack had to be given psychological support. Other passengers had fled the bus in a hurry. They are asked to report to the police as witnesses.A homicide squad is now investigating the background of the crime. According to the newspaper BILD, the perpetrator and victim boarded the bus at the same stop. They are checking whether the 55-year-old is mentally ill.

    “Five police officers were killed in an exchange of fire with suspects during a midnight raid in the Pakistan-administered Gilgit-Baltistan area in the disputed Kashmir region on Tuesday, Geo TV reported, citing officials.

    Another five officers from the Gilgit counter-terrorism department sustained injuries.

    The incident happened in the Chilas area in the Diamer district, when suspects opened fire on the officers.

    The investigation into the incident is underway. Caretaker Gilgit-Baltistan chief minister Mir Afzal Khan said that “the suspects were involved in trading weapons, apart from terrorist activities”, according to the Pakistani channel.”

    “Over the past few weeks, a series of fires and explosions have hit sensitive Iranian facilities. In early July, a blaze swept through a uranium enrichment facility in Natanz, and a blast was reported at a gas storage tank east of Tehran. In mid-July, a fire broke out at a plant producing liquefied natural gas in the city of Fariman.

    A fuel tank has caught fire after a blast in the western Iranian province of Kermanshah, the Mizan news agency reported.

    “An explosion in a fuel tank occurred in the parking lot of the Dolat Abad industrial area”, Mizan said.

    According to the media outlet there are no casualties as a result of the incident.

    Meanwhile, Iran’s Student News Agency ISNA has reported that the blast caused a major fire in the area.

    According to media reports, the fire erupted during maintenance work on the engine of a car. The blaze then spread to eight other vehicles.

    The firefighters put out the conflagration. Four people were taken to hospital with injuries, reports add.

    Earlier this month, a major explosion hit the Natanz nuclear site, the country’s primary uranium processing compound, while a separate blast ripped through the Parchin military complex near the Iranian capital Tehran.

    The Natanz facility is reportedly the site where Tehran set up advanced centrifuges in November 2019 in retaliation for the US withdrawal from the JCPOA.

    Washington withdrew and re-imposed crippling economic sanctions against Iran in May 2018, in what prompted Tehran to announce in May 2019 that it had started suspending its JCPOA obligations.”

    “The leader of a major Christian group in Lebanon on Tuesday blamed the militant group Hezbollah and its local allies led by President Michel Aoun for the rapidly deteriorating economy and worsening relations with neighboring Arab countries, saying the only solution is for them to leave power.

    Samir Geagea, leader of the Lebanese Forces Party, told The Associated Press that Monday’s military activity along the border with Israel was a clear indication the current Lebanese government, which Hezbollah supports, doesn’t have sovereignty in the south, along Israel’s border, where thousands of U.N. peacekeepers are based.

    The Israeli military said it thwarted an infiltration attempt Monday by Hezbollah militants, setting off one of the heaviest exchanges of fire along the volatile Israel-Lebanon frontier since a 2006 war between the bitter enemies. Hezbollah denied its members were involved in any activity along the border while the Lebanese government commented only a day later.

    “Yesterday’s incident gives a clear idea about the state of sovereignty for the Lebanese state. Is that acceptable?” Geagea said in the telephone interview. “Which Arab and foreign countries want to deal with a government that considers itself nonexistent at a time when there is a security danger along its border?”

    Hezbollah and its allies of the Free Patriotic Movement of President Aoun control majority seats in parliament and are the main backers of the current government that took office earlier this year. Prime Minister Hassan Diab replaced Western-backed Saad Hariri who resigned in October, following nationwide protests against widespread corruption and mismanagement by Lebanon’s rulers.

    Since then, the government has struggled to contain the escalating crisis, made worse by the pandemic. The government defaulted on paying back its debt for the first time in March, and the past few months have seen the Lebanese currency lose more than 80% of its value.

    The government has requested a bailout from the International Monetary Fund but negotiations with the lender that started in mid-May have stalled because of divisions within the Lebanese leadership. Oil-rich gulf nations as well as international donors are refusing to give Lebanon a hand before major reforms are carried out within state institutions.

    Geagea, whose party has taken part in successive governments for the past decade and has 15 legislators in the 128-member parliament, said Lebanon received much assistance from Arab and Western countries in the past but all was wasted. Only a new, independent government would be able to win back the international community’s confidence, he said.

    Geagea warned the alliance between of Hezbollah and Aoun’s party “has brought Lebanon to where it is and they will continue to do the same in the months to come.”

    “As long as they are in power we will continue in the crisis. It is a very simple and clear equation,” Geagea said. “They are living on a different planet.”

    The state’s strategic decisions are in Hezbollah’s hands, leading to deteriorating Lebanon’s relations with Arab states, he also said.

    Geagea, whose party played a major role in Lebanon’s 1975-90 civil war, said that once Hezbollah withdraws its fighters from Yemen, Syria and Iraq, and stops implementing Iran’s policy, Arab states will most likely review relations with Lebanon.”

    “More than a quarter of Germany’s inhabitants are immigrants or have immigrant roots, according to official data for 2019 released Tuesday.

    Some 21.2 million, or 26% of the total population, have a “migrant background,” according to figures from a 2019 microcensus, the Federal Statistical Office said. That is an increase of 2.1% compared to a year earlier — the smallest percentage increase since 2011, the office said.

    The largest single group, some 13% of all people who have a migrant background, are originally from Turkey or with roots there, the office said. People with origins or roots from Poland and Russia followed. Overall, 65% of all immigrants have European roots.

    In Germany, somebody is considered to have a “migrant background” if they, or at least one of their parents, were born a non-German citizen. Some 11.1 million people, or 51% of the total with a migrant background, were born as German citizens.

    There is still a big difference between the numbers of immigrants living in western and eastern Germany. The northwestern city-state of Bremen has the highest immigration-rooted population — 36.5% of the total population — while in the eastern state of Thuringia the figure is only 7.8%.

    Following the division of Germany into east and west after World War II, West Germany invited millions of so-called guest workers to help rebuild the country, many of whom stayed for good.

    Relatively few foreigners were allowed to live and work in communist East Germany. Thirty years after German unification in 1990, these differences are still visible.

    The new figures also show that people with immigrant roots are still over-represented in low-paying jobs and underrepresented in professions that require an academic training. They account for more than half, or 55%, of cleaning workers and 30% of geriatric care workers, but only 11% of teachers.”

    “Libyan authorities shot dead three Sudanese migrants in a western coastal town who tried to escape after they were intercepted by the coast guard in the Mediterranean Sea and returned to shore, the United Nations said Tuesday.

    The three were among over 70 Europe-bound migrants, mostly from Sudan, who were returned late Monday to the town of Khoms, said Safa Mselhi, a spokesperson for the International Organization for Migration. Khoms is about 120 kilometers (75 miles) east of Tripoli.

    The shooting underscores the perils that migrants face in Libya, which has emerged as a major transit point for African and Arab migrants fleeing war and poverty to Europe amid years-long chaos following the 2011 uprising that toppled and killed longtime dictator Moammar Gadhafi.

    The IOM said local authorities started shooting when the migrants attempted to escape from the disembarkation point.

    There was no immediate comment from the U.N.-supported government in the capital, Tripoli. Several calls to a spokesman for the coast guard went unanswered.

    Two migrants died at the site of the shooting and a third died of his wounds while being transported to a hospital, according to the U.N. refugee agency, which called for an urgent investigation.

    Two other migrants were wounded and were taken to local hospitals while survivors were moved to detention, the IOM said.

    “This is not the first time people are subjected to this senseless violence and confirms yet again that no one should be returned to Libya,” Mselhi said.

    IOM Libya Chief of Mission Federico Soda said the shooting came “amid a lack of action to change a system that often fails to provide any degree of protection” in conflict-sicken Libya.

    Last week, an Eritrean asylum-seeker died after arriving at the U.N. refugee center in Tripoli from a trafficking center in Bani Walid in the northwest, UNHCR, the U.N. human rights agency, said.

    The young Eritrean arrived at the center with another Eritrean earlier this month. They appeared to be severely malnourished, and one died before it was possible to transport him to a hospital, the agency said.

    Since June, more than 100 people have arrived in Tripoli from trafficking centers in Bani Walid. They are often in very poor physical condition and in dire need of assistance, the agency said.

    In May, the family of a slain Libyan human trafficker attacked a group of migrants in a smuggling warehouse in the desert town of Mizdah, killing at least 26 Bangladeshi and four African migrants.

    Most migrants in Libya attempt to make the perilous journey to European shores in ill-equipped and unsafe rubber boats. The IOM said earlier this year its estimated death toll among migrants who tried to cross the Mediterranean passed the “grim milestone” of 20,000 since 2014.

    In recent years, the European Union has partnered with the coast guard and other Libyan forces to stop the flow of migrants.

    Rights groups say those efforts have left migrants at the mercy of brutal armed groups or confined in squalid and overcrowded detention centers that lack adequate food and water.

    The EU agreed earlier this year to end an anti-migrant smuggler operation that inolved only surveillance aircraft and instead deploy military ships to concentrate on upholding a widely flouted U.N. arms embargo that’s considered key to winding down Libya’s relentless war.”

    The curfews of the lockdown for the entire public space are absolutely unconstitutional. The 33,000 punitive mandates issued on the basis of blatant breaches of the law are clearly unconstitutional.
    The arbitrarily prescribed travel regulations are not only grammatically incorrect, but all are unconstitutional.

    “A group of youths attacked a Roman Catholic church in the Swedish town of Ystad, throwing rocks at church-goers during an evening mass.

    The attack took place on Saturday evening, according to Father Eugeniusz Machnica, who said that three large rocks were thrown through the window of the church, one of which came close to hitting one of the parishioners. Witnesses say the culprits behind the attack were three male youths who fled the area after throwing the rocks.

    Father Machnica claimed he did not believe the incident was motivated by ideology, Nyheter Idag reports.

    “Drunk young people often walk along this route. It is difficult to assess whether it [the attack] had anything to do with the church,” he suggested.

  27. Germany: Hundreds gather outside courthouse as 10 Turkish communists jailed

    Hundreds of protesters gathered in front of the Higher Regional Court in Munich on in solidarity with the defendants of the so-called ‘TKP/ML trial’ (Turkish Communist Party/Marxist-Leninist), as nine men and one woman from the banned Turkish communist group were jailed on Tuesday.

    As the verdict was announced,members of over 30 left-wing organisations protested in front of the court , carrying communist flags and banners and shouting slogans demanding the release of all ten defendants.

    Protesters criticised the trial for being biased, saying the defendants were not accused of any crimes committed in Germany, while the TKP/ML group has not been classified as a terrorist organisation in any other country than Turkey.

    Ten members and executives of Turkish Workers Confederation (ATIK) were accused of providing financial support to the banned TKP/ML organisation and sentenced to several years in prison each.

    “The verdict that has been announced today is a collective wish of the Turkish regime and the German government,” said Suleyman Gurcan, ATIK co-leader.

    He continued: “Those innocent people were convicted here today from three to six years and six months. We as revolutionary and democratic forces from over 20 countries and 35 organisations condemn the decision.”

    “Populist Senator Matteo Salvini slammed the leftist coalition government of Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte, noting the recent increase in illegal migrants and the risks of a new Chinese coronavirus outbreak.

    The populist League (Lega) leader remarked that “landings have tripled since last year, with illegal immigrants being recovered even near Maltese waters, while Lampedusa is collapsing and hundreds of immigrants flee the reception centres who risk spreading Covid-19”.

    According to a report in newspaper Il Giornale, around 180 migrants fled a reception centre in the Sicilian commune of Caltanissetta, with police later managing to catch 120 escapees.

    “This government endangers Italy,” Salvini warned.

    The island of Lampedusa, the part of Italy which lies closest to the North African coast, has been inundated with new migrant arrivals in the last several weeks. A report has claimed that as many as one migrant boat arrives every hour on average and the migrant reception centre on the island is heavily overcrowded.

    Lampedusa mayor Totò Martello said: “The situation has become uncontrollable. If the government doesn’t, I’ll declare a state of emergency.”

    Salvini replied to Martello’s comments over the weekend saying that the Lampedusa mayor was expressing “crocodile tears”.

    “Poland has announced it will withdraw from the Istanbul Convention, a treaty which requires that governments actively promote gender theory through the media and education system.

    Justice Minister Zbigniew Ziobro told a news conference that his ministry would begin withdrawing from the treaty, titled — arguably misleadingly — the Istanbul Convention on Preventing and Combating Violence Against Women and Domestic Violence.

    While far-left protesters claimed the move was aimed at legitimising physical violence against women, Ziobro said problems with the treaty eroded parents’ rights by necessitating far-left social policies be promoted to children. He explained that the convention “contains elements of an ideological nature, which we consider harmful”, Reuters reported him saying.

    Deputy Justice Minister Micha? Wójcik stated that the provisions of the convention centre on an ideology which is harmful “to the family, to marriage”, adding that marriage is between “a woman and a man, not some third, fourth or fifth sex”.

    The ministers have drawn attention to aspects of the treaty which claim that domestic violence is a result of gender stereotyping. “…violence against women does not only result from alcoholism or certain pathologies … but also results from problems related to the stereotypical perception of gender,” remarked Dr Dorota Pudzianowska from the George Soros-sponsored Helsinki Foundation for Human Rights.

    University of Swansea law professor, Andrew Tettenborn, has commented that the Istanbul Convention does nothing to protect females from domestic violence. Instead, it demands that all of society be dismantled and rebuilt around the idea that gender stereotypes are the cause of physical attacks on women.

    According to Article 12 of the treaty, governments who sign up to the document must “take the necessary measures to promote changes in the social and cultural patterns of behaviour of women and men with a view to eradicating prejudices, customs, traditions and all other practices which are based on the idea of the inferiority of women or on stereotyped roles for women and men”.

    Asking whether ordinary citizens in countries like Britain, where the government has signed the Istanbul Convention, “realise that their leaders have signed them up to support a mini-Cultural Revolution”, Tettenborn notes that there is “more than a whiff of totalitarianism” about the treaty’s requirements.

    He writes:

    Secondly, the [convention] requires government to intervene big-time in education and in addition lean on the media. One wonders whether the earnest and well-meaning supporters of ratification have ever looked closely at Article 14.

    Under this, governments must at all educational levels from kindergarten to university take “necessary steps to include teaching material on issues such as equality between women and men, non-stereotyped gender roles, mutual respect, non-violent conflict resolution in interpersonal relationships, gender-based violence against women …”

    This provision for the compulsory instilling of a thoroughly ideological position ought to worry anyone concerned with parental rights to educate children according to their own beliefs, not to mention the ability of communities to set up schools so as educate children within reason according to their norms. Equally alarming is the second part of the same article. All this must be governmentally promoted, not only in education, but in among other places the media: put another way, governments are told to pressure news and TV outlets to toe a particular ideological line. The implications for press freedom are plain for all to see.

    Poland’s conservative president was re-elected earlier this month after promising to “defend children from LGBT ideology” in schools and to protect the interests of the family and the institution of marriage if given a second term.

    TORONTO — An antiviral medication originally used to help treat Ebola has been approved by Health Canada for treatment of COVID-19.

    Health Canada announced Tuesday that the drug remdesivir has been authorized for treatment of the novel coronavirus in patients with severe symptoms such as pneumonia, or those who require extra oxygen to breathe.

    Remdesivir is the first drug that has been approved for treatment of COVID-19 in Canada. The drug has also been granted emergency or conditional authorization in the United States, Europe, Japan, Singapore and Australia.

    “This is a medication that works to inhibit the virus itself; many of the other therapeutics we’ve seen used or attempted for use in the treatment of COVID related disease have been around the immune system,” infectious disease expert Dr. Lisa Barrett of Dalhousie University in Halifax explained to CTV News Channel.

    “However, this one is designed to directly inhibit the virus itself, and has been used or tested for use in other viral infections previously.”

    According to Health Canada, remdesivir is recommended for use in Canadians aged 12 years and older who have severe COVID-19 symptoms and weigh of at least 40 kilograms. Health Canada said remdesivir is to be administered through an IV and will be used only in healthcare facilities where patients can be closely monitored

    “[It’s] definitely not for everyone. This is a medication that’s administered through an intravenous, it is meant to be used in people who have severe symptoms and… those will be folks who are going to be in the hospital, who will require hospitalization. Therefore, it really, really is at this point for people who have more severe symptoms,” Barrett said.

    Health Canada said it completed an expedited six-week review of remdesivir and determined that the drug’s benefits outweigh its risks when used against symptoms of COVID-19.

    However, Health Canada said authorization of the drug, which is manufactured by Gilead Sciences Canada Inc., comes with some conditions to ensure its “continued safety, efficacy and quality.”

    Gilead Sciences Canada is required to submit to Health Canada reports on all adverse reactions to the drug, pregnancy safety reports, final data from clinical trials and any foreign regulatory actions related to the safety of remdesivir.

    “[Remdesivir] does seem to provide some benefit in the treatment of people with severe symptoms, enough so that Health Canada has decided to approve it with the condition that as the company, and as clinicians and physicians gather more data on it, that they report it to Health Canada,” Barrett said.

    The results released in May from a major study in the U.S. suggested that remdesivir could shorten COVID-19 recovery time.

    The U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH) tested the antiviral medication on 1,063 COVID-19 patients sick enough to be hospitalized.

    Officials said recovery in patients using the drug was shortened by 31 per cent — 11 days on average versus 15 days for those just given usual care.

    “It was a well done study, well designed, and it seemed to improve the time people had between when they had bad symptoms, until they felt better,” Barrett said, adding that remdesivir is “not an overall cure in one step.”

    A small number of Canadians have been or are currently being treated with remdesivir under the Special Access Program. With authorization of the drug, the Special Access Program will no longer be required to access remdesivir.

    Health Canada said it will continue to closely monitor the safety of remdesivir and will take action should any safety concerns arise. There is currently no expiry on the drug’s approval.

    “The Public Health Agency of Canada is continuing to lead work with Gilead Sciences Canada, Inc. to secure access to remdesivir for Canadians,” Health Canada said in a statement.

    Two existing clinical trials authorized by Health Canada to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of remdesivir are ongoing, according to the health agency.

    While approval of remdesivir as a treatment will help in the battle against COVID-19, Barrett warned that more research is still needed.

    “Until we have more information, it’s a great idea that Health Canada has gotten us access to this tool in our COVID toolbox, but it certainly isn’t the end of the story, and we’re not certain where it’s best used yet,” Barrett said.

    “An English couple visiting the French city of Calais were surprised after finding two migrants had snuck into the rooftop cargo box of their car in an attempt to sneak into Britain.

    The couple says they first became suspicious while driving along a French motorway and heard noises from the roof of their vehicle. They pulled over at a rest area and opened the roof box, finding two teenage migrants in the cargo container.

    The two migrants, both supposedly aged 16 and from Eritrea and Guinea, ran as soon as they had been discovered, but were later captured by French Gendarmes after the English couple notified them of the incident, France Bleu reports.

    According to the couple, they had come to Calais just for one night before heading to another part of France and think the migrants may have snuck into the car’s cargo box while their vehicle was parked at a hotel in the city.

    The two migrants are said to have thought the couple were returning to the United Kingdom. The Dieppe prosecutor’s office ordered the migrants be placed in social assistance, but the Social Aid for Children (ASE) rejected them, and they were released from custody…”

  39. A man connected to a fringe far-right group camping in downtown Ottawa attempted a citizen’s arrest on Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau twice last week and for his troubles, was arrested instead.

    Both of the citizen-arrest attempts were recorded and posted on Facebook where they were viewed thousands of times. During the first effort on July 23, a man, who identifies himself to police as Brian Kidder, marches to the gates of Rideau Hall, Trudeau’s current residence in Ottawa, with a small entourage.

    “I’m here to make a citizen’s arrest of Justin Trudeau. The charge is obstruction of justice,” Kidder tells one of the RCMP officers standing outside of the gates. “I’m not going to hurt him; I’m just going to (Kidder does a reaching forward movement) and say, ‘You’re under arrest.’”
