Reader’s Links for June 30, 2020

Daily Links Post graphic

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

  2. “If Trump loses,” said the old man as he cleared phlegm from his throat, “he’ll take whoever voted for him and fight back. They’ll try to steal the election with these mail-in ballots. If they’re successful he won’t give up.”

The old man was best first thing in the morning during coffee. As the day went on he’d fade, becoming sleepy and foggy. He went on:

“He didn’t need all this. He made his money. Look at what he’s put himself through. It’s cost him alot. And his family. He did this because he’s a patriot. He loves his country.”

“And if he wins?” I asked.

“If he wins he starts at the top and works his way down, going after every single traitor on the record.”

“It won’t be easy. The deep state will keep fighting,” I said.

“True. But what choice is there? You need a complete counter-revolution to restore the order. To restore the values. Did you see that woman in New York? Standing up to what she called the punk? It isn’t rocket science. Just common sense.”

    • When PT wins the left will up their game to include a massive terror campaign and a campaign to murder all politicians who oppose them, all journalists and opinion people who don’t agree with them and all police that try to do their jobs. This prediction is easy to make it is the next step in a classic Urban Guerilla war campaign. Tucker Carlson and others keep talking about how the Mob doesn’t have any courage, what he is ignoring (probably deliberately to encourage people to fight back) is that the instigators of the riots are hard corp trained agitators with some of them being trained and blooded combat soldiers.

It is vital that Trump wins in November but even if he looses there are many (like the couple in St. Louis) who will fight back, and a lot of them are trained and blooded soldiers who were trained in guerilla and counter guerilla tactics.

      • If Trump loses they will do the same. We are just way more screwed if thats the case. The communists hate the Democrats just as much and there is no illusion of safety if people vote Trump out.

Thats the whole problem. Its down to us now. The real choice is, do we even get the right to fight back or no. Thats what the vote is. We are the cavalry now.

        • This is why so many people are buying guns and ammo and are stockpiling months and in some cases years of food. If/when Trump wins the left is going to go crazy but the patriots will still control (maybe) the major portions of the government and the people will still have the right of self defense.

If Trump loses the left will seize control of the government and will try to use it against us, this is when the preppers/survivalists and vets will come out and we will discover who is a true patriot.

Personally I take great comfort in the words of one of the Doctors at the VA, he is a retired military doctor and he said “They can fly over us but they can’t roll over us.”

Yesterday, as I drove around town listening to the radio, it was impossible to tune in without hearing the same propaganda everywhere. “Far-right” alternative media discrediting BLM and Covid-19 measure and whatever else. Palpable, sticky-sweet hatred for PT and anyone who smells like PT.

  8. Italian Island Locals Vote to End Migrant Landings (breitbart, Jun 30, 2020)

“Locals on the Italian island of Lampedusa have participated in a referendum calling for an end to new illegal migrant landings.

The referendum was called two weeks ago and saw the majority of participants, some 988 people, vote to close the migrant “hotspot” centre, with only four people voting to keep the centre’s doors open.

A committee of local citizens released a statement saying: “For 30 years, in the face of the continuous violation of the most essential rights for the population and for immigrants, Lampedusa has been used as a military management platform for migration.”

“All this with the complicity of local administrations and through a moral and economic blackmailing strategy, to the detriment of the local population,” the locals added, according to an Il Giornale report.

The results of the referendum come as another 43 migrants were transported to the island by the migrant transport NGO Mediterranea Saving Humans over the weekend. The Germany-based NGO Sea-Watch has also launched a new reconnaissance plane named Seabird from Lampedusa, as well, to search for migrant boats in the Mediterranean…”

“It is not our intention to ignore the seriousness of the migration problem. However, we believe that, starting from the claim of the rights and serenity for the Lampedusians and Lampedusa, we can begin a process of questioning the entire governance of migration,” the Lampedusians said…”

  9. Pakistani PM says ‘no doubt’ that India was behind stock exchange attack (metro, Jun 30, 2020)

“Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan told parliament on Tuesday he had no doubt that India was behind an attack on the stock exchange building in the southern city of Karachi.

Four gunmen armed with grenades attacked the Pakistan Stock Exchange on Monday, killing two guards and a policeman before security forces killed the attackers.

“There is no doubt that India is behind the attack,” Khan said in his address to parliament – a charge that India had denied a day earlier.

Khna offered no evidence for his allegation, but he said there had been intelligence reports warning of attacks in Pakistan and he had informed his cabinet about the threat.

The Baloch Liberation Army (BLA), a separatist insurgent group from the southwestern province of Balochistan, claimed responsibility for the attack in a message on Twitter.

Khan said Pakistan’s intelligence agencies had successfully preempted at least four major attacks in the country, two of which targeted Islamabad – but he said it was not possible to stop all such attacks.

The gunmen carried a heavy supply of arms and equipment and security officials believe they planned to storm the stock exchange building and take hostages.

Khan termed their failure to do so and the rapid response by security forces, as a “big victory”.

Separatists have been fighting for years in Balochistan, complaining its mineral wealth is unfairly exploited by Pakistan’s richer, more powerful provinces.

Pakistan has regularly blamed India for supporting Baloch separatists – a charge Delhi has repeatedly continuously denied.

The BLA also took responsibility for an attack on the Chinese consulate in Karachi in 2018.

Several projects linked to China’s Belt and Road initiative are in Balochistan.”

  10. ITALY – Migrant kills and grills a cat to eat it near the train station in Campiglia Marittima ( in Tuscany )

Human Rights Watch report says Canadians being arbitrarily detained in ‘filthy and inhuman’ conditions.

A rights group has called on Canada to repatriate 47 of its citizens, including 26 children “unlawfully detained in dire conditions” in northeast Syria, accused of having links to ISIL (ISIS).

On Monday, Human Rights Watch (HRW) released a report documenting the situation the detainees were in and calling on Canada to urgently bring its citizens home, giving priority to children and other vulnerable detainees.

Since 2017, the Kurdish-led authorities in northeast Syria have repeatedly urged countries to repatriate their nationals, saying they lack the capacity to properly guard them. On 22 June, France repatriated 10 children from northeast Syria.

“The Canadian government has decided it is not convenient to discuss the issue politically,” Sara Kayyali, Syria researcher at HRW, told Al Jazeera.

“Canada has failed to provide moral authority on the issue of repatriation in Syria,” she said.

Canada’s foreign ministry, Global Affairs Canada, informed Al Jazeera in an email: “Given the security situation on the ground and the current COVID-19 context, the Government of Canada’s ability to provide any kind of consular assistance in Syria remains extremely limited.

“The security environment in northeastern Syria is unstable and highly complex. Intermittent combat operations between various armed actors and an ongoing terrorist threat from several violent extremist organizations are among the specific threats that could impact any government activities in this region.”

CBC – Repatriate Canadian former ISIS fighters and family members, Human Rights Watch urges

Conservatives want any Canadian who joined ISIS to be prosecuted

The Canadian government is flouting its international human rights obligations by failing to repatriate and provide adequate consular assistance to 47 citizens who are currently detained in northeast Syria because of alleged ties to the Islamic State, a new report from U.S.-based Human Rights Watch alleges.

Twenty-six of the Canadians being held in camps and prisons controlled by Kurdish forces are children, and many are under the age of six, according to the advocacy group. The report says they are living in deplorable conditions at overcrowded camps with a lack of sanitation, contaminated drinking water and poor access to health care.

“Abandoning citizens to indefinite, unlawful detention in filthy, overcrowded and dangerous camps and prisons does not make Canada safer,” said Letta Tayler, a senior researcher at Human Rights Watch and author of the report. “The lives of Canadians are on the line, and the time to bring them home is now.

An unknown number of Canadians travelled abroad to fight for the Islamic State, also known as ISIS, as the militant group took over territory in Iraq and Syria and implemented a harsh form of Islamic law.

ISIS fighters are known for graphic videos documenting the beheading of journalists and aid workers and are accused by the United Nations of crimes against humanity for carrying out mass executions, abducting women and girls as sex slaves and using child soldiers.

Human Rights Watch says the government should immediately bring home all its detained citizens to rehabilitate and reintegrate them into Canadian society and, where appropriate, prosecute anyone accused of a crime.

The Liberal government has insisted it won’t put Canadian officials at risk to gather evidence and bring former ISIS fighters home to be prosecuted.

The 92-page report, titled Bring Me Back to Canada, is based on interviews with Canadian detainees, family members of detainees, and other women and children who have been held at al-Hol and Ain Issa, two of the camps in northeast Syria.

Asked about the report Monday, Trudeau said Canada will “support Canadians in difficulty overseas.”

“Syria is an area where we do not have any diplomats or any Canadians on the ground, and therefore we work through intermediaries to try to provide consular assistance as best we can,” Trudeau said.

He said repatriating Canadians with alleged ties to terrorism is “more complicated.”

Canadians detained while living under ISIS rule

The Canadian detainees are among thousands of non-Iraqi men, women and children who were living under the rule of the Islamic State and were taken prisoner in the lead-up to ISIS’s defeat at the hands of U.S.-backed Syrian Democratic Forces in early 2019.

Human Rights Watch says none of the Canadians have been charged with crimes in Canada, nor have Syrian authorities brought them before a court.

“No one is saying just set these adults free,” said Tayler, acknowledging that some of them may have committed crimes by joining ISIS. “[But] holding people without charge, without bringing them before a judge, simply because they’re family members of ISIS suspects, is absolutely forbidden under international law and it is particularly egregious to hold children in this fashion.”

General Michael Flynn had to be removed. He knew too much. He had to be shut down and silenced. He was the primary Deep State target.

“He was going to audit the intel agencies because he knew about the billions Brennan and company were running off the books,” Powell said, referring to former CIA Director John Brennan.

Powell began her interview noting at the 1:00 mark that when she took over the Flynn case three things were very, very troubling and egregious:

One – he was not properly informed of what the government had even disclosed to his defense lawyers prior to the plea.

Secondly, the government didn’t disclose a fraction of what it should have disclosed (i.e. the whole case was made up).

And three, he was prosecuted and threatened with the prosecution of his son. That’s how they coerced the guilty plea. It was just unconscionable conduct to threaten to indict him and his son the very next day and give them the Manafort treatment if he didn’t enter his plea right then, and I’m convinced it’s because they knew right then the press was going to explode with the Strzok-Page text messages and everything.

Then Powell drops the bomb at the 5:50 mark where she discloses that Flynn was going to audit the Intel agencies because he knew about the billions former CIA Director John Brennan was running off the books.

Obama: Trump’s use of ‘kung flu’ phrase ‘pisses me off’

Former President Barack Obama derided President Trump for his recent usage of the phrases “kung flu” and “China virus” to describe the coronavirus.

“I don’t want a country in which the president of the United States is actively trying to promote anti-Asian sentiment and thinks it’s funny. I don’t want that. That still shocks and pisses me off,” he said of Trump during a fundraiser last week for former Vice President Joe Biden, according to the New York Times.

Since the start of the pandemic, Trump has used a variety of nicknames for the coronavirus to denote the outbreak’s origins in China, including “China virus.” Recently, he has taken to calling it the “kung flu.”

The president used the phrase during his campaign rally Tulsa, Oklahoma, earlier this month. He used it again days later at an event in Arizona.

There’s not yet any official information on the cause of the incident or on possible casualties.

Commenting on the incident, Jalal Maleki, the Tehran Fire Department spokesman, said as quoted by the Tasnim news agency that a fire had broken out in a medical clinic and firefighters have been sent to the scene.

According to Iranian Fars News Agency, preliminary suspicions indicate that an oxygen tank was behind the blast.

The explosion occurred in the underground floors of the building which caused smoke to rise up through the floors, the agency reported, adding that firefighters have been able to localize the fire.

The incident comes several days after a large explosion occurred east of Tehran. According to the Iranian Defense Ministry spokesman, the incident was a gas tank explosion with no casualties being reported.

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio announced a plan to cut $1.5 billion from the NYPD budget. He gave few details, but said at least part of the money would be shifted to youth programs.

The cuts are partly due to a budget shortfall the city is facing due to economic shutdown in response to the CCP virus epidemic.

Another part of the reason is a response to anti-police protests that hit the city after a black man, George Floyd, died during arrest in Minneapolis in May.

The proposal comes at a time the city is grappling with a spike in shootings. In the four weeks ending June 21, there had been 191 people shot and 34 murdered. The city hasn’t seen a shooting spree this intense since 1996, comparing the same time of the year, according to NYPD statistics.

The mayor said his office presented to the City Council over the weekend a plan “that would achieve a billion dollars in savings for the NYPD and shift resources to young people, to communities in a way that would help address a lot of the underlying issues that we know are the cause of so many problems in our society.”

Fringe activists set up a guillotine in front of Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos’s home in Washington, D.C., on Sunday where they reportedly demanded that Amazon be abolished.

One of the demonstrators said on a bullhorn in front of Bezos’s home, “it is still exploitation and when they become threatened, and we have no voice, the knives come out.”

  25. Kazakh Migrant Arrested After Stealing €50,000 of Items from Greek Churches (breitbart, Jun 30, 2020)

“Greek police arrested a 36-year-old migrant man from Kazakhstan on suspicion of stealing €50,000 (£46,000/$56,000) worth of goods from churches.

The arrest took place on Saturday morning while the man was attempting to steal items from a church in the town of Lagadas. All of the thefts occurred in the Greek region of Thessaloniki over the last month, according to investigators.

The thefts are said to have started in late May. Police determined the man had been behind the earlier thefts after launching an investigation following his arrest, Greek newspaper Proto Thema reports.

According to investigators, the man stole various religious objects, including crucifixes and candelabras used during religious ceremonies.

Greece has seen several attacks on churches, allegedly by migrants, on the island of Lesbos in recent months. Last month, the Hungarian government donated $30,000 (£24,000) towards repairing the damage caused by the migrant vandals.

Tristan Azbej, State Secretary for the Aid of Persecuted Christians, announced the move last month, saying: “As part of the @HungaryHelps programme, we’re contributing USD 30,000 to the refurbishment of churches vandalised by immigrants on the Greek island of Lesbos.”

“I hope our messages about protecting Christian heritage and about illegal migration get through,” he added.

Greece is not the only country in recent months to see a surge of attacks on churches, including thefts and even arson attacks.

France has seen a wave of anti-Christian attacks in the past several years. A report from March 2019 claimed that the country sees as many as three attacks on churches every day.

Last month, the Church of Saint-Jean-des-Cordeliers in southwest France was just one of the latest churches to be attacked, with thieves stealing consecrated hosts. Some have seen the stealing of consecrated hosts as being linked to Satanist groups.”

  26. Iran explosion: Huge fireball in Tehran – Panic as major blast erupts (express, Jun 30, 2020)

“A HUGE fireball has erupted in Iran’s capital city with shocking footage showing smoke billowing into the sky – with reports of people trapped in a burning building.

The blast is said to have taken place close to the Tajrish Square, north of Tehran, with suggestions it was centred on the Sina Athar medical facility. Eyewitnesses said the cause of the explosion was unknown, with unconfirmed reports suggesting 17 people had died with dozens more injured. Newsweek reporter Tom O’Connor tweeted: “Following reports of an explosion at northern Tehran, Iran’s Tajrish Metro Station.”

Footage on social media showed plumes of black smoke rising high in the sky over the city, together with flames.

Midway through the clip there is a second, very loud blast.

Zillay Shah tweeted: “The cause of explosion is still not known.”

Journalist Kian Sharifi posted: “A spokesman for the fire department confirms to Fars news that a health care centre is on fire in northern Tehran, saying ‘people may be trapped inside’.”

Semi-official Iranian news agency ISNA has also reported on the explosions, without citing any additional information.

Jalal Maleki, the Tehran Fire Department spokesman, told the Tasnim news agency a fire had broken out in a medical clinic in north Tehran, with firefighters sent to the scene.

The head of the Tehran Emergency Center, Peyman Saberian, told the Fars news agency three people had been injured.

Local media is reported it occurred underground and was probably caused by gas tanks igniting…”

  27. RTSelf-hatred is so RAMPANT in the West that politicians are now even denying cold hard facts

Scottish Justice Secretary Humza Yousaf reeled off a list of positions in Scottish public life, all held by white people. But he conspicuously failed to mention that Scotland is 96 percent white, as it didn’t fit the narrative.

A strange and confusing scene befell the Scottish Parliament earlier this month. Like most people on the planet (and indeed in Scotland), the incident passed me by at the time, but it came to my attention after footage began circulating on social media.

The clip in question features the Scottish Justice SecretaryHumza Yousaf reeling off a list of positions in the Scottish legal profession and law enforcement, and then saying – or more accurately, spitting – the word “white” after them.

You might think he was describing the colour of tiling they had all opted for in their bathrooms. But no, Mr Yousaf was pointing out the melanin levels of these senior lawyers, judges and policemen.

Once he was done with his own purview of law, he moved on to other areas such as medicine (white), trade unions (white), and directors general of the Scottish government (you’ve guessed it, white). When he reached the end of his little list he added “that is not good enough.”

Mr Yousaf, who is not white, then decided he would talk directly to his pastier constituents and said: “As people of colour, we don’t need your gestures. Don’t just tweet Black Lives Matter. Don’t just post a hashtag. Don’t just take the knee. Don’t just tell us how you’re not a racist – I take that as a bare minimum. You must be anti-racist.”

You can judge for yourself Mr Yousaf’s tone while he is pointing out the skin colour of his colleagues in the clip above.

Whatever your assessment of the Scottish justice secretary’s impromptu ethnic survey of public life in Scotland, he failed to mention one (I would argue, rather important) fact: Scotland is more than 96 percent white.

Yes, from Hadrian’s Wall to the Shetland Islands, less than four percent of Scotland’s inhabitants are anything other than white. This is not a criticism of the country; it is a fact, just as it is that less than one percent of Scotland is black – which might go some way towards explaining why it hasn’t as yet had a black high court judge or chief constable.

What makes Mr Yousaf’s statement truly perplexing, though, is that here we have a senior member of the Scottish Nationalist Party and Scottish Government apparently complaining that Scotland is full of native Scots. His speech took place as part of a broader debate held in the Scottish Parliament on racism in Scottish society, although “debate” is an odd word for a situation where no one put forward a contrary opinion.

For two hours, the entire Scottish Parliament – Tory, Labour, SNP, Lib Dem and Green MSPs alike – reeled off reasons why Scotland was an awful, xenophobic and systemically racist country. When they weren’t discussing their own failings, they took the opportunity to make “orange man bad” observations about the state of the USA.

Now, I’m not Scottish. But if I were, it would peeve me somewhat to see my national parliament indulging in self-flagellation just so its members could flaunt their virtue. It will also be interesting to see how much time they devote to discussing the knife attack that occurred in Glasgow at the end of last week, seeing as they devoted over two hours of parliamentary time to a crime that happened 4,000 miles away and involved precisely zero Scotsmen.

The whole display struck me as a perfect microcosm for the wave of societal self-hatred sweeping across the West at the moment. The populations of the freest and most prosperous societies to ever grace the face of the Earth are currently in the grip of a spasm of irrationality that has caused them to see their own countries as evil.

We have spent the entire month of June berating ourselves for being riddled with racism, bigotry, misogyny, homophobia, transphobia, Islamophobia and God knows what else. We have literally torn down national heroes or boarded them up because we’ve now decided they were bad people.

We have exclusively focused on bad things in our history, despite the fact that those sins are universal, committed by every culture in history. No credence has been given to the achievements of Western civilisation; the fact it was the first society in history to attempt to abolish slavery on a global scale has been deemed irrelevant.

The fact that most of the world’s functioning democracies were born out of this history is ignored. That Western Europe and North America are observably the best places to live if you are a minority of any description is discounted. The West is behaving like an angry, depressed, self-loathing teenager.

What these protests and parliamentary debates point to is a victory of narrative over facts. The progressive neo-Marxist left has managed to gain control of the narrative, and as a result all we hear are people, places and corporations flinging their support behind causes they do not understand.

Would a corporation acting rationally willingly throw its support and plough millions of dollars into the coffers of an organisation that is committed to the “overthrow of capitalism”? No, but they have, for that is what the organisation Black Lives Matter is committed to. But these are facts, not narrative, so they are ignored.

Would an organisation allegedly committed to saving the lives of black people focus solely on a very small subset of black deaths? No, but again, the fact that homicide is the leading cause of death for black men under 44 years of age in the United States and those killings are overwhelmingly committed by members of that same group doesn’t fit the narrative. Therefore, it is ignored.

This is exactly the case with Humza Yousaf’s rant about the lack of BAME people in high-profile roles in Scottish life. The reason most of the top jobs in Scotland are held by white people is because Scotland is made up overwhelmingly of white people. But it doesn’t fit the narrative, so it is ignored.

We need to start talking about facts, not feelings, before we tear everything down just because we are angry. Anger has ripped down many things; rarely has it built anything to replace them.

  28. Canadian Woman Attempts to Buy Chemical Weapons on Dark Web, Gets 6-Year US Prison Sentence (sputniknews, Jun 30, 2020)

“A 37-year-old female resident of the city of Winnipeg in Manitoba, Canada, has been sentenced to six years in prison after pleading guilty to one count of attempt to acquire a chemical weapon.

A North Dakota US District Court sentenced Sijie Liu to six years behind bars on June 22, after she attempted to purchase a chemical weapon from an undercover FBI employee on the dark web, according to court documents cited by Canadian outlet CTV News Winnipeg.

According to court documents observed by the outlet, Liu first made contact with the undercover agent some time between February 15, 2019, and March 5, 2019, and ordered 10 milliliters of an undisclosed toxin, a mask, gloves and an apron.

An affidavit written by FBI Special Agent Steven Noldin detailed that although Liu was a resident of Winnipeg, she had the order shipped to an address in Pembina, North Dakota.

The 37-year-old crossed the US-Canada border in a white Subaru Forester on March 5, 2019, and told a US Customs and Border Protection officer that she was going to shop in Grand Forks, North Dakota.

Court documents noted that Liu then drove to a commercial mail agency in Pembina, where a plainclothes officer observed her obtaining a number of packages under the name “Julie Chen.”

The 37-year-old was then arrested by law enforcement and told officers, “I know what I did was wrong.”

According to the Grand Forks Herald, Liu was facing two additional charges as part of a federal indictment. However, the undisclosed charges were dismissed as part of the 37-year-old’s plea agreement.

Liu, who has been behind bars in Cass County Jail in Fargo, North Dakota, since her arrest, will be granted time served and is set to be transferred to a Canadian jail, reported CBC News.

A number of documents associated with the case remain sealed by the North Dakota court.”

Actual headline today: “flu virus with ‘pandemic potential’ found in China”….not from six months ago. Today.
Flu virus with ‘pandemic potential’ found in China

It emerged recently and is carried by pigs, but can infect humans …could mutate further so that it can spread easily from person to person, and trigger a global outbreak.

    Pandemic threat
A bad new strain of influenza is among the top disease threats that experts are watching for, even as the world attempts to bring to an end the current coronavirus pandemic.

The last pandemic flu the world encountered – the swine flu outbreak of 2009 – was less deadly than initially feared, largely because many older people had some immunity to it, probably because of its similarity to other flu viruses that had circulated years before.

That virus, called A/H1N1pdm09, is now covered by the annual flu vaccine to make sure people are protected.

The new flu strain that has been identified in China is similar to 2009 swine flu, but with some new changes.

    How worried should we be?
The virus, which the researchers call G4 EA H1N1, can grow and multiply in the cells that line the human airways.

They found evidence of recent infection in people who worked in abattoirs and the swine industry in China when they looked at data from 2011 to 2018.

Current flu vaccines do not appear to protect against it, although they could be adapted to do so if needed.

    • Another scare tactic? This one gone stale? Maybe.

I never believed the Wuhan coronavirus was the product of sophisticated genetic engineering. Yes, without doubt it escaped or was released from a lab. But extra-fancy splicing and dicing of the genome just seems beyond current technical capabilities. Refined targeting – by race or age or whatever – that just seems to exaggerate the competence of these devils.

      That is, for the coronavirus.
The influenza virus – that’s something else.

There’s a universe of strains and libraries of genomes. From the start of bioengineering, influenza has been a principle target. Gain-of-function research is inherently dual-usage. Yet it’s pursued all over the world, a collaborative endeavor.

C’mon on man, these are pure SCIENTISTS, far too noble to be suspect!
How dare you stymie the free flow of knowledge, in medicine, no less!

  31. BBC – Germany far right: Elite KSK commando force ‘to be partially disbanded’

Germany’s defence minister says she has ordered the partial dissolution of the elite KSK commando force, which has come under growing criticism over right-wing extremism in its ranks.

Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer told a newspaper it had become partly independent of the chain of command.

In May, police seized explosives and weapons at the home of a KSK soldier.

In January, military intelligence said there were almost 600 suspected far-right supporters in the army last year.

They also said the KSK (Special Forces Command) was seen as a particular problem, with 20 members of the elite force suspected of right-wing extremism.

[…]One of the force’s four companies, where extremism is said to be the most rife, will be dissolved and not replaced, the minister said.

“Anyone who turns out to be a right-wing extremist has no place in the Bundeswehr and must leave it,” she told German radio.

Deutsche Pravda – Germany to overhaul elite army force tied to right-wing extremism

Defense Minister Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer will disband part of the KSK special forces, a unit linked to far-right extremism. The German military has been grappling with a rise in far-right links among soldiers.

[…]The KSK has been part of the German Army since 1996. The group focuses on anti-terrorism operations and hostage rescues from hostile areas. Its members have served in Afghanistan and the Balkans, but its operations are kept secret.

[…]The extremism allegations go as far back as 2017, when KSK members at a commander’s farewell party allegedly threw pig heads, played right-wing rock music and performed the Nazi salute.

A report by Germany’s Military Counterintelligence Service (MAD) in January revealed that 500 soldiers in the German military were being investigated for right-wing extremism.

Germany’s top commando unit has been partially dissolved following claims it was infiltrated by right-wing extremism.

Defence Minister Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer ordered the partial dissolution of the country’s Special Forces Command (KSK), she announced today.

It follows reports that the KSK was in crisis amid incidents of personnel owning Nazi paraphernalia, stockpiling weapons, giving Hitler salutes and even plotting to assassinate left-wing politicians.[…]

[…]Of particular note was a 13 per cent increase in anti-Semitic crimes to 2,032, more than 93 per cent of which were attributed to the far right.

Charlotte Knobloch, a Holocaust survivor and German Jewish leader, said the increase in anti-Semitic crimes was ‘no longer surprising’ and that she was particularly worried about how visible it had become in recent years.

She suggested it was being fanned by the success of the far-right Alternative for Germany party, which is the largest opposition party nationally with seats in every state parliament – although it has seen support slip below 10 per cent in recent polls

  32. GERMANY – “We are afraid for our children” – Locals comment as 30,000 suspected pedophiles investigated

Locals voiced their opinions in Bergisch Gladbach on Tuesday, after reports broke that the cybercrime unit in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia is investigating 30,000 suspects in a probe into a pedophile network in the area.

“That scares me even more now, because I wasn’t that far,” local Ivonne said while sitting next to her daughter.

“I hadn’t even heard that. And now suddenly so many [suspects], that is very stressful too, of course we are afraid for our children,” she added.

“Crazy, yes, and especially your own father when he abuses and sells his children. I only hope that they will be punished, but with our German legislation in recent years, the perpetrators will go unpunished and the one who is harmed will be punished. That’s how it is with us now, it’s all a mess, Added Mr. August, another local.

“They should publish the names of these people because that would scare them off,” another passerby said.

The investigations cover the distribution and use of child pornography. Late last year police in the region detained a 43-year-old man over allegations of abusing his baby daughter. The man was accused of filming and sharing videos of the abuse online with chat partners.

The investigation has identified 70 suspects nationwide thus far. The first offender sentenced in May was a 27-year-old soldier who received 10 years in prison and is now in a psychiatric hospital.

  33. Iran Issues Arrest for Those Involved in Gen. Soleimani’s Assassination

“Tehran’s prosecutor said 36 people involved in the assassination of Iranian top commander Lieutenant General Qassem Soleimani have been identified and the judiciary has ordered their arrest.

Ali Alqasimehr said the judiciary has also given their names to the international police to capture them, according to IFP News.

US President Donald Trump is top on the list and his prosecution will be pursued even after his term ends, Tehran’s prosecutor added.

He underlined that these people are accused of “murder” and conducting “acts of terrorism”.

General Soleimani was the commander of the IRGC Quds Force and was widely known as a key figure in the fight against Daesh terrorists in the region. He was killed in a US airstrike ordered by Trump at Baghdad International Airport on January 3.”
