Daily Links Post graphic

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

  1. I’m pretty sure silicon valley are “scrubbing” any negative content regarding BLM and ANTIFA.
I think their “good intentions” will backfire and make the backlash against the insurgent activists even greater.

    • Note: I misread the article and my description is misleading, there is no Church mentioned in the article and the crimes were committed in Minnesota.
None the less, this pair are on the run and believed to be in Texas.

  3. To scrub. Scrub. Scrub. Scrub. What a good word. I think most words are great. I think most words matter, otherwise we wouldn’t have them. Scrub. Sometimes I like to repeat a word over and over until I hear only the sound and not the meaning. Sometimes this evens happens by accident. It almost turns any word into an onomatapoeia. But then turn an onomatapoeia into something more than a sound word and see what happens! That’s cooking with gas! Hmm.

Scrub, scrub, scrub. See? I’m scrubbing the meaning from the word “scrub”. What a word. I can almost hear the sound of the, well, scrubbing. Now that I’m doing it, however, I’m not sure that I can make much else out of this sound. So now I’m a little confused. Is the meaning so baked in that I cannot change it? Maybe I can’t scrub scrub. Did I just defeat my effort with this last sentence? Kinda like using a sponge to wipe a sponge.

Once upon a time, a word was driving home from work. It had been a good, long, productive day for the word. He was very happy and he loved his work as much as any word could appreciate his lot in life. He knew he was lucky because he would even do his job for free if he had to.

Almost home, the word came to a red light at 22nd and Finch. The radio played one of the word’s favourite songs. “Doo-wop-ditty” was the song’s name. What a great title for a song, thought the word. Then, just as the traffic light was about to turn green, the passenger door to the word’s car flung open and a man jumped into the passenger seat, slamming the door shut.

“Drive!” shouted the man. He scared the word. The man brandished a chrome pistol. His face was angry and intense. “I said drive, asshole! Turn left there!”

The word was shaking. One minute you’re driving home minding your own business, the next minute you’ve been hijacked by some maniac and you’ve got no idea where you’re headed. So many words in the world…why me, thought the word.

The two drove on until they had left the city and were across the river into the breasted hills. Days and weeks passed. At first the word resented his captor as a control freak who doubtlessly harboured deep-seated father issues. In time, however, the word came to love his new master, eventually forgetting all about his own original meaning. When finally he was released from captivity and reappeared, friends and family no longer recognized him. He was sombre and aloof. Aloof. Aloof.

Rebadged and reassigned, those who once knew him as gay never again saw him happy.

  5. Swedish Channel Boots Out Celebrity Producer Over Criticism of Black Lives Matter (sputniknews, Jun 15, 2020)
    https://sputniknews.com/europe/202006151079615419-swedish-channel-boots-out-celebrity-producer-over-criticism-of-black-lives-matter/

“Swedish producer, writer and blogger Alexander Bard, a former star of the pop act Army of Lovers, lashed out against the Black Lives Matter movement, calling its members and supporters to stop “becoming self-appointed victims” and instead “get their s**t together”.

Swedish TV4 has decided to part ways with producer Alexander Bard as a member of the jury in the show “Sweden’s Got Talent” following his criticism of the Black Lives Matter movement.

In a viral post this weekend, Bard urged the black community to stop living on welfare and playing the victim card.

“If black lives want to matter, then black lives get their f***ing s**t together, study hard, go to work, make their own money instead of depend on welfare, stop lying, get out of prison, and become heroes instead of self-appointed victims for the world to laugh at. That matters!”, Bard tweeted.

?Following this tweet that ruffled many feathers and left the public deeply divided, Bard was also relieved of his duties as jury member in TV4’s “Sweden’s Got Talent” show.

“TV4 has been in contact with Alexander Bard and has jointly concluded that it is not appropriate for him to continue as a juror on “Sweden’s Got Talent”, executive producer Lotta Edvardsson explained in a comment to the newspaper Expressen.

According to the newspaper, celebrity influencer and fellow jury member Bianca Ingrosso demanded that Bard be fired, threatening to leave the jury herself otherwise.

Bard called TV4 “embarrassingly amateurish” and “passive aggressive” and accused it of “pandering to the lynch mob”.

In a subsequent interview with the news outlet Nyheter Idag, Bard expanded his ideas and ventured that Martin Luther King would have hated Black Lives Matter.

“I believe victim cults are a sheer hell, and there will only be a lot of violence and misery. [The US] tear down statues of heroes and build new statues of victims, and I think black people deserve better. Not least all the blacks who work hard, plug, take their kids to school, stick to their marriage – and it works”, Bard told Nyheter Idag.

For his tweet, Bard even received threats, not least from 46-year-old rapper Leopoldo Fernando Gonzalez Carmona, known under his moniker as “Chinaman” and currently serving a jail sentence. In a now-deleted Instagram live, Carmona called Bard “f***ing gay son of a bitch”. “You will hear more of me, you damn f*g”, he said, as quoted by the news outlet Samhällsnytt.

“Since his show business days, Bard has reinvented himself as a political activist. Describing himself as a Libertarian Marxist, Bard, a vocal opponent of laws against drug consumption and prostitution, has been an on-and-off member of the Liberals and the Citizens’ Coalition Party. Following the BLM debacle, Bard left the Liberals for the second time….”

  6. At Least 6 Killed, 16 Injured in Clashes Between Taliban, Army in Afghanistan – Police (sputniknews, Jun 15, 2020)

“At least six people were killed and 16 others injured in clashes between the Afghan government forces and the Taliban radical movement in the Qaisar district of the northern Afghan province of Faryab, the spokesman for the local police department, Karim Yorsh, said on Monday.

“Six Taliban insurgents were killed and 16 others injured in several separate incidents in the Qaisar district over the past 24 hours,” Yorsh said, adding that there were also casualties among the government forces and civilians, but not specifying the numbers of those.

Nader Saeedi, a member of the Faryab provincial council, said that casualties, including fatalities, among army soldiers counted four.

Additionally, two civilians have sustained injuries as a result of the clashes, according to Saeedi.

The Taliban have not commented on the matter.”

  7. Illegal Migration Into Europe is on the Rise Again – Report (sputniknews, Jun 15, 2020)
    https://sputniknews.com/europe/202006151079616488-illegal-migration-into-europe-spiked-in-may-report/

“In April, the number of unauthorised crossings into Europe dropped to a record low number since 2009 due to the coronavirus crisis, according to border data provided by national authorities. Now the situation within Europe’s Schengen Area has been returning to what it had been in the start of the year, before the global pandemic kicked in.

The number of migrants trying to enter the European Union sharply increased in May following a significant drop the month before, the Funke media group reported, citing figures provided by Frontex, the European Border and Coast Guard Agency.

According to figures cited by the media, there were 4,300 illegal crossings into the European Schengen Area registered in May, nearly a triple increase since April. The Eastern Mediterranean route remained the most popular path to Europe for potential asylum seekers. Overall, there were 31,000 unauthorised crossing into Europe recorded since the start of the year, which is a six percent drop from the same period in 2019.

The quoted report is not currently available on Frontex’s official web page. However, the agency previously argued that illegal crossings have sharply dropped to a record low number in April due to coronavirus crisis and widespread border closures. The unauthorised EU border crossings along the main migratory routes thus plummeted by 85% in April, while only around 40 detections of illegal border-crossing activity were recorded on the Eastern Mediterranean route – a 99% drop in comparison to March. The prior month, however, the number of illegal crossings to Europe had already halved from February to 4,650, the agency earlier revealed, as coronavirus restrictions had started being introduced around the world. Due to delayed reporting, however, some of these figures may have been revised now.

Apart from the most popular Eastern Mediterranean migratory route, some other paths have still seen more migration traffic this year, as nearly 7,000 people have reportedly tried to enter Europe through the Western Balkans since the start of 2020, which was nearly a 50% rise in comparison to the previous year.

Earlier, the EU’s asylum agency, EASO, argued that there is a risk of the COVID-19 pandemic triggering more asylum-seeking activity in the future from countries in the Middle East and North Africa due to potential food shortages.”

  8. Scottish police attack: Two officers rushed to hospital after being attacked with weapon (express, Jun 15, 2020)

“TWO police officers in Scotland have been taken to hospital after being attacked with a bladed weapon.

The horror attack took pace in Wishaw, North Lanarkshire, on Sunday night. One of the officers suffered a serious head injury and the other has a hand injury.

They are both in a stable condition at the University Hospital Wishaw.

A 25-year-old man has been arrested.

The attack took place in Greenfield Drive just before 11pm.

The officers were attending a separate incident returning a 10-year-old boy to an address when they were approached by the man.

Pictures show dozens of police at the scene following the attack.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “A 25-year-old man has been arrested after two police officers were seriously assaulted in Lanarkshire.

“The response officers were dealing with a separate incident returning a 10-year-old boy to an address on Greenfield Drive, Wishaw, when they were approached by the 25-year-old.

“One of the constables, aged 24, suffered a serious injury to his hand caused by a bladed weapon and the other constable, aged 23, suffered a serious head injury.

“Both men were taken to the University Hospital Wishaw where they remain in a stable condition.

“The 25-year-old has been arrested and enquiries remain ongoing.””

  9. U.N. to Examine ‘Systemic’ U.S. Racism and Police Brutality (breitbart, Jun 15, 2020)
    https://www.breitbart.com/politics/2020/06/15/u-s-to-be-special-focus-of-u-n-debate-on-global-racism-police-violence/

“The main U.N. human rights body agreed Monday to a request from African countries to urgently debate alleged “systemic” U.S. racism and police brutality sparked by the death of George Floyd, the black man killed while in police custody in Minneapolis on Memorial Day.

As the 43rd session of the U.N. Human Rights Council resumed after breaking in March over the Chinese coronavirus pandemic, council president Elisabeth Tichy-Fisslberger’s proposal to hold the debate on Wednesday afternoon was met with the approval of all 47 council members.

The request came last Friday in a letter written on behalf of 54 African countries by Burkina Faso’s ambassador to the U.N. in Geneva.

Her missive cited the “weight of history” as well as Floyd issuing what she called “A desperate yearning for a long-departed mother. Reaching deep from the bowels of fragile humanity. Grasping for breath. Begging for mercy. The entire world heard the tragic cry”.

The U.N.’s top rights body was asked for an “urgent debate” on “racially inspired human rights violations, police brutality against people of African descent and the violence against the peaceful protests that call for these injustices to stop.”

The letter, personally addressed to Tichy-Fisslberger, requested this debate be held this week.

Floyd’s death, “is unfortunately not an isolated incident, with many previous cases of unarmed persons of African descent suffering the same fate due to unchecked police brutality,” the letter said.

“Sadly, the fates of many other victims attracted no attention, as they were not captured on social media for all to see,” Ambassador Dieudonne Desire Sougouri wrote on behalf of the African Group at the council.

While the letter called for a debate on racism everywhere, it in particular pointed to the situation in the United States.

“The protests the world is witnessing are a rejection of the fundamental racial inequality and discrimination that characterise life in the United States for black people, and other people of colour,” it said.

That debate will now go forward with the U.N.’s focus firmly on allegations of unfairness and inequality around the globe in general and in the U.S. in particular.

This is not the first time the globalist U.N. has been approached to intervene in U.S. matters.

Last week the family of George Floyd sent a letter of their own to the United Nations to ask for its help in disarming police officers in the United States, as Breitbart News reported.”

  10. London: Four Charged for ‘Black Lives Matter’ Attack on Police (breitbart, Jun 15, 2020)
    https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2020/06/15/london-black-lives-matter-attack-police/

“Four males have appeared in court after police officers in London were attacked by a crowd shouting “black lives matter”.

Three men and a 13-year-old boy appeared at Thames Magistrates’ Court charged with what the prosecutor described as “an unprovoked, deliberate group attack on two serving police officers simply doing their daily jobs”.

PC Macpherson and PC Ali “fear[ed] they were going to die” as they were kicked, beaten and spat at by a crowd of men shouting “pigs”, “racist” and “black lives matter”, the court heard, according to The Sun.

Footage of the incident went viral last week, with public figures including UK Home Secretary Priti Patel taking to Twitter to condemn the attack as “sickening, shocking and disgraceful”.

The beating began after officers attempted to stop and question a man in Hackney, London, according to Sky News home affairs correspondent, Mark White.

The 13-year-old pleaded guilty to two charges of assaulting an emergency worker on Friday. He claimed he thought he had been “helping” someone by taking part in the attack, as a result of news coverage of the Black Lives Matter (BLM) movement leaving him “scared”, the Evening Standard reports.

Paul Kabemba, 33, Jordan Thomas, 20, and Marvin Henderson, 34, indicated not guilty pleas related to their alleged involvement in the incident, and all three men were freed on bail until a hearing on July 10th.

Prosecutor Varinder Hayre told the court that PC Macpherson “was in general fear for his safety and conscious of the crowd getting around him and shouting ‘pig’ and ‘ginger c***’”.

The male officer “felt a blow to his lower back and realised he was being attacked by the crowd”, she said, adding: “Suddenly he saw a male holding a silver baseball bat and PC McPherson said he was in fear for his safety and at that point he believed he was going to die or be seriously injured.”

Hayre then spoke of the female officer’s experiences, noting that PC Ali was “pushed and pulled … [and] kicked in the leg” while terrified that her colleague “was going to be seriously hurt and that she would be overpowered and hurt”.

“She said she was disgusted that she as a front line worker was then attacked by these males who were visibly larger and stronger than her,” the court heard.

Ken Marsh, chairman of the Metropolitan Police Federation, commented on the incident in a statement saying: “Yet again this starkly shows the dangers [officers] face and the bravery they show each and every day keeping Londoners safe.

“We are not society’s punch bags. We have families we want to go home to at the end of every shift, but the dangers are stark and seemingly escalating.””

  11. Arsonists Attempt to Torch Rennes Cathedral in France (breitbart, Jun 15, 2020)
    https://www.breitbart.com/crime/2020/06/15/arsonists-attempt-to-torch-rennes-cathedral-in-france/

“Unidentified arsonists placed a large trash bin against a side door of the Saint-Pierre cathedral in Rennes late last week and set the contents on fire, in an apparent attempt to torch the church.

Rennes firefighters arrived in time to put out the fire, which they believe to have been intentionally set since the bin was brought from an adjacent street and deliberately placed outside the door. The incident took place during the night from the 11th to 12th of June.

It was the owner of a neighborhood restaurant who sounded the alarm, shortly before 2:00am. “I started to smell a burning odor so I went to see if it was coming from our kitchens,” he said. “I went upstairs to the second floor and opened the window that overlooks the church.

“The smell was stronger and stronger and I saw neighbors running with buckets of water. They told me the cathedral was on fire,” he added.

Because of the swift intervention by firefighters, the fire was brought under control before serious damage except could be done to the church. The judicial police have taken charge of the investigation into the arson.

“There was no intrusion into the building,” said Father Erwan Delahaye, the pastor of the cathedral. “But the door was damaged, and was partially destroyed by the flames.”

The pediment and stones around the door, blackened by smoke, also suffered from the fire. The Regional Directorate of Cultural Affairs (DRAC) called on local craftsmen to carry out a temporary repair.

In April 2019, the Paris cathedral of Notre Dame caught fire and suffered extensive damage, including the loss of its spire. Investigators do not believe that the blaze was intentionally set.

Nonetheless, shortly before the Notre Dame fire a dozen Catholic churches were desecrated across France over the period of just one week.

During that week in March 2019, arsonists set fire to the church of Saint-Sulpice — one of Paris’ largest and most important churches — shortly after the twelve-o’clock Mass in what police determined to be an act of arson. The cost of restoration of the church from the fire damage caused was estimated at several hundred million euros.

In Nimes, near the Spanish border, the church of Notre-Dame des Enfants was desecrated in a particularly hateful way, with marauders painting a cross with human excrement, looting the main altar and the tabernacle, and stealing the consecrated hosts, which were discovered later among piles of garbage.

The church of Notre-Dame in Dijon, in Burgundy region, similarly suffered the sacking of the high altar and vandals took the hosts from the tabernacle, scattering them on the ground and trampling them underfoot.

A group of young men desecrated the village church of Lavaur, in the southern department of the Tarn, twisting one arm of a sculpture of the crucified Christ to make it appear that he was making an obscene gesture.

Although media were hesitant to attribute a particular religious or cultural origin to the desecrations, the incidents all shared a clear anti-Christian character.”

  12. The PTSA at my children’s school has sent out a notification on recent school suicides since the stay-at-home orders. The District size is over 100,00 and 3 students are known to have taken their own lives; shockingly two in middle school. (In the past, there has been a known suicide every few years.)

You can look on youtube or elsewhere for help under “suicide awareness.”

Unfortunately, I don’t see any words on how we can build resilience, self-awareness, or promote family communication. The school district is offering individual counseling services even though students aren’t physically attending

    • Even in Soviet times, when my Russki was stationed there assisting them with radar installations, there was no love. No commie brotherhood. Uh, uh.

      • Centuries of rivalry and conflict, there is a lot of blood on the ground on both sides, they will be friends until there is a good reason, or what they think is a good reason to stab the other in the back.

Back in the 70s I was talking want a man who said that eventually the US and Russia will team up to take China out of the game. Xi’s actions may have made that prediction come true.

        • There’s also the ethnic bit we try to ignore. Russians may have a lot of Mongol DNA, but their collective history is Christian.

Han Chinese are really different. Racial supremacists. Individual vs. collective – our religions define our place in society differently. We prize each immortal soul, idealize independence. That looks chaotic and barbaric to the Chinese.

    • CBC – Canadian scientist sent deadly viruses to Wuhan lab months before RCMP asked to investigate

Documents show concerns about Ebola shipment from National Microbiology Lab, no relation to COVID-19

Newly-released access-to-information documents reveal details about a shipment of deadly pathogens last year from Canada’s National Microbiology Lab to China — confirming for the first time who sent them, what exactly was shipped, and where it went.

CBC News had already reported about the shipment of Ebola and Henipah viruses but there’s now confirmation one of the scientists escorted from the lab in Winnipeg amid an RCMP investigation last July was responsible for exporting the pathogens to the Wuhan Institute of Virology four months earlier.

Dr. Xiangguo Qiu, her husband Keding Cheng and her students from China were removed from Canada’s only level-4 lab over what’s described as a possible “policy breach.” The Public Health Agency of Canada had asked the RCMP to get involved several months earlier.

The virus shipments are not related to the outbreak of COVID-19 or research into the pandemic, Canadian officials said.

PHAC said the shipment and Qiu’s eviction from the lab are not connected.

“The administrative investigation is not related to the shipment of virus samples to China,” Eric Morrissette, chief of media relations for Health Canada and the Public Health Agency of Canada wrote in an email.

“In response to a request from the Wuhan Institute of Virology for viral samples of Ebola and Henipah viruses, the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) sent samples for the purpose of scientific research in 2019.”

      ‘It is alarming’
      However, experts are concerned.

“It is suspicious. It is alarming. It is potentially life-threatening,” said Amir Attaran, a law professor and epidemiologist at the University of Ottawa.

“We have a researcher who was removed by the RCMP from the highest security laboratory that Canada has for reasons that government is unwilling to disclose. The intelligence remains secret. But what we know is that before she was removed, she sent one of the deadliest viruses on Earth, and multiple varieties of it to maximize the genetic diversity and maximize what experimenters in China could do with it, to a laboratory in China that does dangerous gain of function experiments. And that has links to the Chinese military.”

Gain of function experiments are when a natural pathogen is taken into the lab, made to mutate, and then assessed to see if it has become more deadly or infectious.

Most countries, including Canada, don’t do these kinds of experiments — because they’re considered too dangerous, Attaran said.

“The Wuhan lab does them and we have now supplied them with Ebola and Nipah viruses. It does not take a genius to understand that this is an unwise decision,” he said.

“I am extremely unhappy to see that the Canadian government shared that genetic material.”

Attaran pointed to an Ebola study first published in December 2018, three months after Qiu began the process of exporting the viruses to China. The study involved researchers from the NML and University of Manitoba.

The lead author, Hualei Wang, is involved with the Academy of Military Medical Sciences, a Chinese military medical research institute in Beijing.

All of this has led to conspiracy theories linking the novel coronavirus responsible for COVID-19, Canada’s microbiology lab, and the lab in Wuhan.

The RCMP and PHAC have consistently denied any connections between the pandemic and the virus shipments. There is no evidence linking this shipment to the spread of the coronavirus. Ebola is a filovirus and Henipa is a paramyxovirus; no coronavirus samples were sent.

The ATIP documents identify for the first time exactly what was shipped to China.

The list includes two vials each of 15 strains of virus (about 15 ml):

      Ebola Makona (three different varieties)
      Mayinga.
      Kikwit.
      Ivory Coast.
      Bundibugyo.
      Sudan Boniface.
      Sudan Gulu.
      MA-Ebov.
      GP-Ebov.
      GP-Sudan.
      Hendra.
      Nipah Malaysia.
      Nipah Bangladesh.
PHAC said the National Microbiology Lab routinely shares samples with other public health labs.

The transfers follow strict protocols, including requirements under the Human Pathogens and Toxins Act (HPTA), the Transportation of Dangerous Goods Act, the Canadian Biosafety Standard, and standard operating procedures of the NML.

CBC News has not been provided with some of the paperwork involved with the transfer, as information was redacted under sections of the Access to Information Act dealing with international affairs, national security and other issues.

      Confusion, concern over shipment
The ATIP documents provide details about the months leading up to the shipment — including confusion over how to package the deadly viruses — the lack of decontamination of the package before it was sent, and concerns expressed by the NML’s director-general Matthew Gilmour in Winnipeg, and his superiors in Ottawa.

They wanted to know where the package was going, what was in it, and whether it had the proper paperwork.

In one email, Gilmour said Material Transfer Agreements would be required, “not generic ‘guarantees’ on the storage and usage.”

He also asked David Safronetz, chief of special pathogens: “Good to know that you trust this group. How did we get connected with them?”

Safronetz replied: “They are requesting material from us due to collaboration with Dr. Qiu.”

Meanwhile, it appears the NML’s shipper initially planned to send the viruses in inappropriate packaging and only changed it when the clients in China flagged the problem.

“The only reason the correct packaging was used is because the Chinese wrote to them and said, ‘Aren’t you making a mistake here?’ If that had not happened, the scientists would have placed on an Air Canada flight, several of them actually, a deadly virus incorrectly packaged. That nearly happened,” Attaran said.

The package was routed from Winnipeg to Toronto and then to Beijing on a commercial Air Canada flight on Mar. 31, 2019.

The next day, the recipients replied that the package had arrived safely.

“We would like to express our sincere gratitude to you all for your continuous support, especially Dr. Qiu and Anders! Thanks a lot!! Looking forward to our further cooperation in the future,” said the heavily redacted email, which does not provide the name of the sender.

Nearly one year after the expulsion of Qiu, Cheng, and her students from the NML, there are still no updates on the case from the RCMP or PHAC.

At the time, Public Health Agency spokesperson Morrissette said the department was taking steps to resolve this case as quickly as possible.

On Thursday, he said the investigation has not yet concluded.

“Administrative investigations are impartial, thorough and in-depth. They are also procedurally fair and respect the rights of individuals,” he said.

Gordon Houlden, director of the China Institute at the University of Alberta, said he welcomes scientific collaboration and exchanges with China, “but there has to be a framework of rules in place” and Canada’s intellectual property must be protected.

Houlden, a former diplomat, has many unanswered questions about this particular shipment.

A vacuum of information is always a problem, especially in a situation of heightened tension with China over the arrest of a Huawei executive in Canada, the seemingly retaliatory arrest of two Canadian men in China and questions over the origins of the coronavirus, he said.

“There’s also a danger if you don’t provide information that people will jump always to the worst conclusion,” Houlden said.

    • CBC – Canadian scientist sent deadly viruses to Wuhan lab months before RCMP asked to investigate

CBC News has learned that a Canadian researcher escorted out of Winnipeg’s National Microbiology Lab over a possible policy breach also sent dozens of vials of deadly viruses to the controversial Wuhan Institute of Virology, four months earlier. Experts say Ottawa needs to be more transparent about what happened.

      • A global fraternity of a specific class of virus freak.

China couldn’t do it without scientists in the U.S., Canada, Australia, and probably elsewhere. They enlist institutional and material support from our govts. Politicians grease the system. China gets multinational corporations to secure these “favors” on their behalf.

Those who dare to engage in gain-of-function research don’t even handle existing hazardous materials properly. Sloppy and careless, they distain safety protocols that bind ordinary mortals.

They’re mad: rabid animals unfit to live with sentient beings. And they’re by no means all Chinese.

We’ve got to root them out of all our institutions. Universities too noble to increase security, pride themselves on openness, and object to scrutiny of Chinese connections as racist.
(But they’re not above accepting hefty donations, endowed chairs, full tuition from Chinese student-spies.)

    • Interesting video. I think China would be more likely to double down with extra military aid to Pakistan than risk losing their strategic ‘investment’ of Gwadar, and their special relationship wth the present government.

      • If they have the money that is what they will do, but the Chinese economy was in a recession when they finally admitted that the flu existed and was hitting them hard. Then they spread it around the world and the worlds economy shut down, this meant that the Chinese couldn’t export the way they normally do. Now throw in the expense of buying food after the Swine Flu, the Bird Flu, the late snows that destroyed wheat and rice crops, the floods that destroyed more food crops. China may not have the money to double down, they can print all of the yuan they want to try and keep their economy afloat but no one outside of China takes the Yuan. They have to buy the overseas goods (food and other items) with a hard currency, right now that is US Dollars and they were short of them before their problems were more then the recession and the Trade War. No one knows if China is going to be under their current government this time next year. The Indian channel is taunting China, possibly trying to get them to spend money they don’t have.

Remember the biggest and deadliest weapon in war is money closely followed by innovation. Both are short in China so yeah they may lose that port, just as they may lose other portions of the BRI that they are trying to take over.

Religious and Cultural Obstacles to China’s BRI in the Middle East
      {snip}
“The primary key to the success of the BRI is stability in the Middle East, a goal that appears to be far beyond China’s geopolitical capacity. Most states in the region are developing countries that are affected by complex factors like social class gaps and ethnic and religious strife. The more Beijing engages economically in the region, the more exposed it is to the consequences of regional and local instability…

“Beijing has traditionally avoided deep entanglements in Middle Eastern affairs by adopting a neutral position. Now that it wants to promote regional economic prosperity under the framework of the BRI, it is advocating political settlements of the region’s conflicts. This is meant to foster stability and cement China’s influence as a newly emerged great power at minimum cost.

“However, the more China is engaged in Middle Eastern disputes, the higher the risk that it will be sucked into them. The BRI will not be implemented smoothly without a proper settlement of the conflicts in the region. If that is the case, Beijing will have to adopt a more proactive attitude toward regional problems.

“Chinese companies participating in the construction of BRI infrastructure in the Middle East will need more and more skilled local workers. However, Chinese ignorance of local regulations and deficiencies at the operational level have led to a rise in labor and commercial disputes.

“The region’s instability is forcing China to confront severe challenges as it attempts to implement the BRI. Its ability to achieve its objectives in the region depends largely on the security and economic situation in the region, but also on the knowledge China has accumulated over its historical experience in the Middle East.

“The New Silk Road strategy is a complicated foreign policy challenge. It is a massive, slow-moving project that will unfold over decades. It is functionally and geographically vast, and will involve a great many Chinese companies and local agencies. The project requires China to grapple with political, economic, religious, cultural, and security issues. The critical question is whether it will know how to overcome the challenges posed by religious and cultural differences in the Middle East.”

  19. A unified theory of Spygate: The (partial) story and scope (as we know it so far)

This article won’t be quite as comprehensive as the title may suggest. But I think it may be useful as a way of backing off from the weeds we’ve been in for the last three years, and seeing some things whole: things that have been evident to those with expertise in particular aspects of Spygate, but perhaps not to everyone else.

My hope is to keep this tight and focused. So I’m not going to provide the full arguments and justifications here. They have been dealt with elsewhere; the links are included for further reading.

The focus here is the “how” of Spygate. It’s not about the “why,” at least not at the level of story and song. I’ve written extensively about that too, and for our purposes here will clarify that I believe the Spygate actions, per se, undertaken prior to 2015 were about retaining an ability to spy on political opponents, successors, and all other Americans even after Obama left office in January 2017. The Spygate actions taken in the fall of 2015 and thereafter were mostly about exercising this capability against Donald Trump.

  20. FRANCE DIJON – French City Rocked by Unrest Blamed on Score-Settling Chechens

French police said Monday that dozens of reinforcements were being sent to the eastern city of Dijon after it was rocked by a weekend of unrest blamed on Chechens seeking vengeance for an assault on a teenager.

Police sources said the unrest was sparked by an attack on a 16-year-old member of the Chechen community on June 10.

Members of the Chechen diaspora then set out on so-called punishment raids seeking to avenge the assault, they said.

“What happened is unprecedented and unacceptable,” the city’s mayor, Francois Rebsamen, told AFP.

The crowd carried out three raids on three successive nights starting Friday, with many people wielding baseball bats.

The local prefect Bernard Schmeltz — the top state official in the region — said in a statement that the violence “appeared to be part of a settling of scores between members of the Chechen community in France and residents” of Dijon.

Police said that in one incident some 50 Chechens entered the restive district of Gresilles overnight Saturday, and a man who owns a pizzeria was badly wounded by apparent gunfire.

Even more people, around 200, also entered Gresilles late on Sunday with violent intent.

In an interview with local daily Le Bien Public, a man claiming to be a Chechen said the raids aimed to avenge an assault by local dealers on the 16-year-old.

“There were about a hundred of us from all over France but also from Belgium and Germany. We never intended to ransack the city or take it out on the people,” said the man, who was not identified by name.

Dijon prosecutor Eric Mathais said a total of six people had been injured in the three incidents on the successive nights, but no one has yet been arrested.

A probe has been opened into attempted murder by a criminal gang, he added.

Rebsamen said the police reinforcements were arriving after he spoke by telephone with Interior Minister Christophe Castaner.

Thirty-seven anti-riot police members came on Sunday, while 110 additional gendarmes would be deployed from Monday, he said.

Chechnya is a predominantly Muslim Russian republic in the North Caucasus. Two wars in the 1990s triggered a wave of emigration, with many Chechens heading for western Europe.

Speeding car FLIPS OVER amid clashes between Chechen and Arab gangs in Dijon, France (VIDEOS)

Shocking footage from Dijon, France shows a car accelerating towards a group of armed Chechens before flipping over. The chaotic scene comes amid reported clashes between Chechen and Arab gangs in the city.

Dijon has seen several nights of violence between the Chechen and Maghreb communities – a conflict reportedly sparked after a Chechen teenager was assaulted in the city.

According to French media, around one hundred Chechens armed with knives, baseball bats and other weapons attacked a hookah bar on Friday night. Police later dispersed the mob using tear gas. Ten people were reportedly wounded in the skirmish.

The clashes continued through the weekend. A video that spread across social media on Sunday shows a speeding car tearing past a group of Chechens before flipping over. Armed with pipes and other objects, the crowd shouts and rushes towards the wrecked automobile.

Local media reported that the driver was seriously injured and hospitalized. Several unconfirmed reports claim the car was driven by a member of a rival gang.

The violence has shocked many in France, with some complaining on social media about the lack of media coverage.

French police suspect that this was sparked by an attack on a 16-year-old member of the Chechen community on June 10.

Dozens of authority reinforcements are being sent to the eastern city of Dijon now.

In footage taken, detonations can be heard and smoke seen rising into the air.

In another clip, a group wearing balaclavas brandish guns and shout as they pose for the filming.

The Dijon mayor, Francois Rebsamen said what happened was “unprecedented and unacceptable”.

Many of the videos of the clash were obtained through the social media of participants, particularly on their Snapchats.

One such video shows an area in the street on fire as Chechens walk past.

Radio network Franceinfo also confirmed that journalists trying to document the event had been attacked.

More terrifying footage shows a car speeding through the street, losing control and crashing into the pavement.

  24. CBC – reuters – FDA revokes emergency use authorization of hydroxychloroquine for COVID-19

Donald Trump championed malaria drug’s use for COVID-19 patients, said he took it himself

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration on Monday revoked the emergency use authorization for malaria drugs as a treatment for COVID-19 amid growing evidence they don’t work and could cause deadly side effects.

U.S. President Donald Trump had championed the use of the drugs for COVID-19 and even said he had taken them himself.

But the FDA said based on new evidence, it was no longer reasonable to believe that oral formulations of hydroxychloroquine and the related drug chloroquine may be effective in treating the respiratory illness caused by the novel coronavirus.

The move comes after several studies of hydroxychloroquine suggested it was not effective, including a widely anticipated trial earlier this month showed it failed to prevent infection in people who have been exposed to the virus.

The drug’s anti-inflammatory and antiviral properties suggested it might help treat COVID-19, and the FDA authorized its emergency use in March at the height of a pandemic caused by a virus for which there were no approved treatments.

    Trump pushed drug’s use

Trump aggressively pushed the drug beginning in the first weeks of the outbreak and stunned medical professionals when he revealed he took it preemptively against infection after two people who worked at the White House were diagnosed with COVID-19.

The move means that shipments of the drugs obtained by the federal government will no longer be distributed to state and local health authorities. The drugs are still available for alternate uses, so U.S. doctors could still prescribe them for COVID-19 — a practice known as off-label prescribing.

But doctors in recent weeks had already pulled back on the use of hydroxychloroquine as a COVID-19 treatment after several studies suggested it is not effective and may pose heart risks for certain patients.

Current U.S. government treatment guidelines do not recommend use of the malaria drugs for COVID-19 patients outside of a clinical trial.

The decades-old drugs, also prescribed for lupus and rheumatoid arthritis, can cause heart rhythm problems, severely low blood pressure and muscle or nerve damage.

    Some clinical trials still ongoing

France, Italy and Belgium late last month moved to halt the use of hydroxychloroquine to treat COVID-19 patients. But the United States last month supplied Brazil with two million doses for use against the coronavirus, as the South American country has emerged as the pandemic’s latest epicentre.

Meanwhile, some 400 trials are listed as using hydroxychloroquine or chloroquine as interventions for COVID-19, more than half of them still ongoing, according to a recent analysis from research firm GlobalData.

In the United States, the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases last month launched a trial designed to show whether hydroxychloroquine in combination with azithromycin can prevent hospitalization and death from COVID-19.

  26. DEUTSCHE PRAVDA – Opinion: Vladimir Putin uses homophobia for votes in Russia

On July 1 Russia will “consult” voters on an array of possible amendments to the constitution. Prejudices against LGBTQ+ communities are being exploited to get people to vote in the referendum, DW’s Juri Rescheto writes.

A homophobic video is currently stirring controversy in Russia. The plot is simple: Petya, an orphan, is waiting happily for his new mother in a children’s home. But, instead of a woman, there is a heavily made-up, effete-looking man waiting outside for the child. Petya is sad. “Will you decide for a Russia like this?” a narrator asks. “Decide over the future of the country and vote for the constitutional amendments.” Produced by the Federal News Agency and the Patriot media group, this homophobic propaganda suggests that, if voters don’t approve changes to the constitution, same-sex couples will soon be able to adopt children in Russia.

On July 1, Russians will decide on constitutional changes that could permit Vladimir Putin to run for president again when his term ends in 2024. There is also an amendment that would set into law that opposite-sex marriages are the only basis for healthy Russian families — in contrast to other European countries where same-sex partners can now marry and largely enjoy legal equality.

Homophobia is being used to push for a backward-looking country that is hostile to the European Union. This is nothing new: Since 2013, a law has banned “homosexual propaganda” in Russia — imposing penalties on people who talk positively about gay men and lesbians in the presence of minors, for example. In 2017, the European Court of Human Rights ruled that the law constituted state promotion of homophobia.

But, even in contemporary Russia, there are people who think differently. Under the hashtag #DaVyberu (“Yes, I’ll vote for this”), social media users are posting drawings and cartoons that show a happy Petya with two fathers and calling for a different future in Russia.

But this is scant comfort for LGBTQ+ people in Russia, who remain without protection.

Le Parisien – Russie : un proche de Poutine réalise un clip homophobe

    • ‘Completely Crazy’: Activists Slam Antigay Ad As Russia’s Constitutional Vote Looms

A Russian media group linked to a close associate of President Vladimir Putin has produced an antigay political ad ahead of a vote on constitutional amendments that would open the door for the former KGB lieutenant colonel to remain in power until 2036.

The video, which was produced by Patriot Media Group and began airing this week on social media, shows a young boy’s disappointment upon learning that his new adopted mother is actually a makeup-wearing gay man, who immediately presents the child with a dress.

Upon observing the interaction between the boy and the man, an elderly woman working at the orphanage spits on the ground in disgust.

“Is this the Russia you will choose? Decide the future of the country. Vote for the amendments to the constitution,” a voiceover says at the end of the ad as the gay couple hugs.

Putin’s ally Yevgeny Prigozhin, who is commonly referred to as “Putin’s chef” because of his catering business, heads Patriot’s board of trustees. He has been sanctioned by the United States for his role in interfering in the 2016 presidential election.

The video, which has attracted hundreds of thousands of views online, has been criticized for its homophobic message.

“There is nothing worse than an orphanage for a child. A gay or lesbian couple who can give care, warmth and love is heaven and earth compared with life in an orphanage,” a popular Moscow-based blogger who goes by the name Ksenia Dukalis said in an Instagram post that received nearly 100,000 likes.

“If a government or organization which films such a thing really cared about children, they would know this,” she said.

Aleksei Navalny, a popular opposition figure, said in a tweet that Russian officials “have gone completely crazy” about the theme of homosexuality.

Nikolai Stolyarchuk, the head of Patriot, rejected the notion that the ad was attacking members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) community.

“The main idea is not a fight with the LGBT community, rather to protect the institution of the family as the union of a man and woman,” Stolyarchuk said.

Russians will go to the polls on July 1 to vote for a series of amendments to the constitution that would reset Putin’s previous presidential term count back to zero, allowing him to run again in 2024 and 2030.

The amendments also include a passage defining marriage as a union between a man and a woman, thus enshrining the country’s ban on same-sex marriage in the constitution

It also includes declaring the Russian language as the state language and outlawing the “falsification of history.”

The amendments can only be approved altogether or not at all.

      ‘Traditional Values’

Since returning to the presidency in 2012, Putin has promoted a “traditional values” agenda, including by adopting a law criminalizing “propaganda of non-traditional sexual relations among minors.”

The law has caused many LGBT people in Russia to leave the country.

Aleksandr Filimonenko, who played one of the gay men in the political ad, said he did not know how the video was going to be used.

Filimonenko said he simply accepted the role for two videos, one of which has yet to be aired.

The voiceover calling on citizens to vote for the constitutional amendments was added after the video was shot, he said, adding that he would vote against the proposed changes to the constitution.

      • Well done, President Putin…and President Trump and PM Orban and all those who stand against sodomy, abortion and every God-dishonouring perversion.

    • the independent – How liberal outrage pushed a homophobic troll video to the top of Russia’s political agenda

Analysis Democratically minded Russians reacted in an ‘awfully stupid way’ by amplifying a pro-Putin advert uncritically, says prominent LGBT+ activist

As far as storyboards go, the advert was as inept as it was crass.

The year is 2035. Two gay men are in the process of adopting a child. A worried boy asks where his mother is. Orphanage workers look on with concern. An effeminate actor in eyeliner, “mum”, gets out of his car.

“Is this the Russia you choose?” asks a voice from off-screen. “Decide the future of your country and vote for amendments to the constitution.”

Given the history of politicised homophobia, it was easy to link the video to the Kremlin and its forthcoming plebiscite on allowing Mr Putin to annul presidential term limits.

Most of liberal Russia did just that. Pyotr Verzilov, a media publisher and spokesperson for Pussy Riot, was one of the first to express indignation. “AAA! Official campaign video: vote for the amendments or GAYS WILL TAKE ALL RUSSIAN CHILDREN HOME WITH THEM,” he wrote on Twitter. Russia’s independent media — and many western commentators — largely followed suit.

In reality, however, there is little evidence suggesting the Kremlin had a hand in the advert. And by amplifying its message as if there were such a link, liberal commentators arguably gave the video a platform way above its pay grade. In other words, they did for homophobia what Barbara Streisand did for unsanctioned photography.

Despite Mr Verzilov’s initial tweet describing it as an official campaign video, the 10 minute clip was in fact the production of media groups answerable to Yevgeny Prigozhin, a shadowy oligarch associated with Russian troll farms and mercenary operations abroad.

There are few absolutes in Russian politics, but it is important to recognise Mr Prigozhin’s domestic media interests are much more autonomous and marginal than his other projects. As far as this campaign video is concerned, all the evidence points to a freelance enterprise.

In conversations with The Independent, a source close to the presidential administration with experience of off-book political campaigns described the video as an “attempt to influence” the official July 1 campaign. “Prigozhin tries to muscle in on every movement or vote, and he has enough money for all the experiments he pleases,” the source said. “He regularly, and without any orders from above, does his own thing.”

Tatyana Stanovaya, a non-resident scholar at the Carnegie Moscow Center and keen observer of elite politics, agreed that the video appeared to be Mr Prigozhin’s personal initiative. If the presidential administration had any role, she said, it was to turn a blind eye: “Over the last few years, the presidential administration has chosen to ignore many things, and is losing its monopoly on domestic politics as a result.”

None of this, of course, is to say the Kremlin was especially angered by the video. Mr Prigozhin knew where he was treading, and followed the party line of homophobia completely. It also seems likely that the video’s viral success will now give officials pause for thought. They understand they have a job on their hands to achieve a convincing win in the constitutional vote on July 1 without reverting to blunt manipulations. According to a recent poll by Levada Centre, the last independent pollsters left in Russia, only 44 per cent of Russians were ready to vote for Mr Putin’s power grab.

Abbas Galyamov, a prominent political consultant, suggested the Kremlin could be pleased to turn the constitutional vote into a vote on minorities. “A referendum about gays is the regime’s wet dream,” he wrote on Facebook. “A referendum about annulling presidential terms is the Kremlin’s worst nightmare.”

But The Independent’s Kremlin source cautioned it was “unwise” to read any “deep meaning” into the appearance of the video. “We are talking about particular PR consultants outside of government who have identified what they think is a successful product of homophobia, and who have tried to make a big media provocation out of it,” he said.

Igor Kochetkov, head of the Russian LGBT Network, said democratically inclined Russians had reacted in an “awfully stupid way” by amplifying the video’s message uncritically.

“The only thing people did was bring attention to it, and save Prigozhin a lot of money in the process,” the activist said in comments to The Independent. The advert appeared to be Mr Prigozhin’s way of impressing his bosses: “Judging by the way it wasn’t widely distributed at first, it was probably designed as a test, to see if homophobia still chimed with the electorate.”

The homophobia card certainly worked the last time it was road-trialled in a major way in 2013. Then, the introduction of the much-derided law on “gay propaganda,” Russia’s Section 28, divided society and bolstered Vladimir Putin’s rating. But fast forward to 2020 and it is less clear what effect, if any, it can have on electoral dynamics. The context is quite different given the coronavirus pandemic, a multi-year economic squeeze, and increasingly liberal mindsets among the younger generation.

A poll published last year suggested half of Russians were now in favour of equal rights for LGBT+ people, up from 39 per cent in 2013.

Marianna Muravyeva, professor of gender and law at Helsinki University, suggested Mr Prigozhin’s advisors were working to an “outdated script.”

“It’s a dumb strategy,” she said. “It comes from people who believe that the nation is made up of dark, unenlightened masses. They don’t understand it hasn’t been like that for some time.”

Signs of Russia’s increasingly tolerant reality were also evident in a strong counter-reaction to the video. Going under the hashtag #davyberu, or #yesIchoose, a stream of commentators took to the internet to explain why they would, in fact, choose a Russia with gay parents. Artists published scenes of idealised gay families; one post garnered 15,000 likes within a couple of hours of posting.

Activist Kochetkov said he was greatly encouraged by what he saw in the counter-campaign, and expressed hope it would deter authorities from using homophobia in their campaign.

“Back in 2013, when we were fighting against the propaganda law, we had nothing like #YesIchoose,” he said. “The Kremlin needs to understand homophobia won’t help increase turnout or support for their changes. It simply isn’t fashionable any more.”

  27. Elder of Ziyon has posted this shocking report from Israel Hayom:

Obama tried to push a UNSC resolution to create a Palestinian state

Israel Hayom has a bombshell report that in the waning days of the Obama administration, there was an attempt to stab Israel in the back even more than the infamous UNSC 2334 that said that settlements violated international law.

According to the report, Israeli prime minister Netanyahu asked Vladimir Putin to veto 2334, and he refused. But Obama, in the waning days of his administration, tried to push a much worse resolution to force Israel to establish a Palestinian state on the basis of the 1948 lines.

Netanyahu tried his luck again with the Russian president. he called up Putin and explained that such a move would severely hurt regional stability.

This time, Putin was convinced and informed Netanyahu that if the resolution goes to a vote, Russia will stop it.

According to what Netanyahu has said recently, the Russian intention to veto the US move against Israel became known to Obama. The outgoing president understood that if Russia were to veto this resolution in the Security Council, it would severely undermine the credibility of the United States as an ally of Israel and its own image in the Jewish community – and so he decided to shelve the initiative.

  29. UC Berkeley Professor DESTROYS Black Lives Matter Lies
By Liberty Sentinel Staff 23 hours ago

Writing anonymously for fear of losing his or her job, a history professor at the University of California, Berkeley, released a scathing open letter that absolutely demolishes the entire Black Lives Matter narrative.

In fact, the professor–who says he or she is a “person of color”–makes an irrefutable case that the establishment-pushed narrative is inherently racist at its core.

The letter also discusses honestly the facts about George Floyd, who was a violent felon that literally pointed a gun at a pregnant woman’s unborn baby to rob her house.

As the writer points out correctly, if the narrative of the justice system being anti-black is true, it is much more anti-male than it is anti-black, and yet nobody is marching against the giant conspiracy to incarcerate men.

The authenticity of the open letter was confirmed by two respected black professors, Kentucky State University Assistant Professor of Political Science Wilfred Reilley and Stanford University economist Thomas Sowell.

The letter follows below, re-printed in its entirety, with emphasis added by the editors of ZeroHedge.com.

  30. Atlanta Burning

Chaos, arson follow police shooting of Rayshard Brooks.
    June 15, 2020
    Lloyd Billingsley

Atlanta was still smoldering Sunday from riots following the police shooting of Rayshard Brooks on Friday. The 27-year-old African American had fallen asleep and his car was blocking the drive-thru lane at a Wendy’ restaurant. Brooks failed a sobriety test and according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, “during the arrest, the male subject resisted and a struggle ensued.”

As surveillance video revealed, “during a physical struggle with officers, Brooks obtained one of the officer’s Tasers and began to flee from the scene. Officers pursued Brooks on foot and during the chase, Brooks turned and pointed the Taser at the officer. The officer fired his weapon, striking Brooks,” who died after surgery at a local hospital. The police bodycam video captured part of the struggle.

Rioters torched the Wendy’s restaurant, blocked Interstate 85, and painted “Defund the Police” on Atlanta police headquarters, where police chief Erika Shields resigned. Atlanta mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms, a possible running mate for Joe Biden, told reporters, “I do not believe that this was a justified use of deadly force.” The city fired officer Garrett Rolfe and placed officer Devin Brosnan on administrative duty.
