Daily Links Post graphic

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

  1. Two Muslims pushed man into the train tracks several times after he wanted to protect his girlfriend against harassment by them

Two men aged 33 and 34 years jointly hit a 23-year-old and his 18-year-old female companion at the Bad Cannstatt train station on Saturday evening at about 11:00 pm. According to the current state of investigation, the 33-year-old Iraqi and the 34-year-old Moroccan suspects got into an argument with the 23-year-old on platform 3 of the Cannstatt station, as one of the men had probably previously harassed the female companion of the later victim. When the 23-year-old wanted to stop this behaviour, one of the two perpetrators apparently punched him in the face several times with his fist. Afterwards, they are said to have pushed the young man several times, so that he almost fell against a suburban train that was departing at the same time. When the female companion tried to stop the alcoholized attackers, it is said that she too was hit in the face several times. One of the suspects apparently then took a key in his hand and attacked the victim again. When several previously uninvolved travelers finally separated the men, the 33-year-old fled, but was temporarily arrested by a patrol of the state police in the vicinity. Alarmed rescue teams treated the two victims on site as outpatients. The 23-year-old suffered minor injuries to his hand and face. His female companion felt severe pain in her jaw due to the incident. The men, who live in Stuttgart and in the Esslingen district, must now expect a criminal complaint on suspicion of dangerous bodily injury. Witnesses of the incident are asked to report to the federal police by calling +49711870350.

  2. Ontario extended something yesterday, but I’m not sure what it is. Is it lockdowns, I don’t know. Big box stores can do booming business but small businesses suffer. Premier Ford warns commercial landlords to forgive rent delinquencies saying they don’t understand what it means to struggle. How does Premier Ford know the route to success that every commercial landlord took was devoid of struggle? How does he know that none of them started with nothing, worked like maniacs, lawfully gambled their capital to claw their way up the socioeconomic ladder, only to find themselves now being dictated to by a supposed conservative?

No one can dictate to capital. It simply transforms into a ghost and vanishes, reappearing in a friendlier environment elsewhere. Ford is doing massive harm.

    • I was dismayed when PTrump appointed Mattis.
      I had a fat file: “MB> Global> USA >Assets> Idiot-Assets> Military> Mattis”.
      – – where was PTrump’s file?

From the time he was appointed till the time he resigned, Mattis pursued 0’s policy against ISIS in Iraq and Syria. Which is to say, NOT to fight the terrorist org, but to facilitate the orderly takeover of Mesopotamia and the Levant by Iran and the Filthy Turk.

Mattis put MB operatives in the most sensitive positions. His personal sympathies were never in doubt. Little wonder our position continued to deteriorate, giving Iran its long-desired Land Bridge to the Med, and opening the north for the Neo-Ottoman.

  4. Mob of 100 people ‘push and kick’ police officers as they try to arrest drugs suspect in Manchester while shouting ‘you aren’t letting him breathe’ (dailymail, Jun 4, 2020)
    https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8387711/Mob-100-people-push-kick-police-officers-try-arrest-drugs-suspect.html

“A mob of 100 people ‘pushed and kicked’ at police officers as they attempted to arrest a drugs suspect in Manchester.

Those gathered on the street in Moss Side shouted ‘you are not letting him breathe’ and ‘I saw officers stamp on his neck’ as police attempted to detain the driver of a car ‘linked to drugs’ on May 28.

The arrest, which took place after the motorist was seen travelling ‘at a very high speed’, attracted the attention of a ‘100-plus’ group, Greater Manchester Police said.

Of these, at least 10 who ‘at best could be described as hostile’ surrounded officers.

It was reported some interfered with the arrest by ‘pushing and kicking at officers without the knowledge of what had occurred beforehand’.

Comments made at the scene regarding the suspect being unable to breathe came amid rising tensions over the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis, Minnesota last Monday.

The unarmed black man had gasped ‘I can’t breathe’ while white police officer Derek Chauvin knelt on his neck for nearly nine minutes outside a convenience store.

The 46-year-old father’s death set off the biggest anti-racism protests seen in the United States since the 1960s civil rights era.

It also sparked outrage across the globe, with solidarity protests taking place in the Netherlands, Sweden, Australia, Denmark, Germany and London.

In a statement seen by the Manchester Evening News after the incident last Thursday, GMP said: ‘The recent footage of the incident in USA… has clearly raised tensions in the community.’

Following the gathering, GMP sent an email to local community groups setting out a timeline of events.

Police said officers from GMP’s Moss Side and Hulme neighbourhood team noticed a vehicle parked on Cowesby Street with two people inside at 8.20pm.

Moments earlier, the vehicle was seen ‘driving at a very high speed’ in Hulme, they said.

Officers then tried to ‘engage’ with the driver and passenger, but the pair refused and the car windows were shut.

The vehicle was ‘linked to drugs’ on GMP’s intelligence system and the people inside ‘appeared to be concealing items’, police added, although ‘it was difficult to see due to the car having illegally tinted windows to the front’.

The occupants of the car refused to leave the vehicle after being told they were being detained under the Misuse of Drugs Act.

Officers tried to get inside the car, before it rammed a police vehicle and attempted to drive away, the statement added.

Police gave chase, and the passenger escaped the vehicle during the pursuit, before it eventually came to a stop on Greame Street.

The driver then resisted arrest as a large crowd gathered around the officers, the statement added.

An unnamed GMP officer said: ‘I can understand our communities’ concerns and have no issues with them witnessing the detention/arrest or filming the incident, but in this incident they were interfering with the arrest of the driver.

‘There was a large police presence due to a backup call being made, but as soon as the prisoner and vehicles were removed, police withdrew from the area to assist removing some of the tension.

‘This area of Moss Side has recently seen several large gatherings and we have been engaging with the community, but unfortunately the recent events elsewhere have clearly added to tensions.’

Officers, the statement adds, were wearing bodycams, which were activated, meaning the ‘whole event’ was filmed.

The man arrested was left with a grazed elbow and an officer suffered a hand injury, but did not need hospital treatment.

The 28-year-old is suspected of dangerous driving; failing to stop for police; obstructing police; and assault whilst resisting arrest.

Police are not looking to prosecute any other person at the scene during the incident.”

  7. ‘Allah Akhbar’: Journalists Covering London BLM Protests Attacked Live on Air Twice in One Day (breitbart, Jun 4, 2020)
    https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2020/06/04/man-allegedly-shouting-allah-akbar-assaults-aussie-journalist-london/

“A man has been charged after allegedly assaulting an Australian journalist live on air while reportedly shouting “Allah Akbar”, with another camera crew from the same network being assaulted just hours later.

9News’s Sophie Walsh was covering the George Floyd protests in London’s Hyde Park on Wednesday. The Europe correspondent was speaking over recorded footage of an earlier protest when she is heard offscreen screaming before the camera returns to Ms Walsh, who is visibly upset.

When the newscaster sitting in the studio in Adelaide asked Ms Walsh if she were okay, she responded: “A man just came up and grabbed me.”

“He yelled ‘Allah Akbar’ while making motions to stab her,” the network’s anchor said while later reporting on the incident.

The man was chased, tackled to the ground, and detained by Nine’s camera operator and bystanders until police arrived, according to the network.

While reports said it was unclear if the man had a screwdriver, the network reports police arrested the man for making threats to kill and carrying an offensive weapon, later charging him.

Just 12 hours later, another Australia 9News crew were attacked during coverage of the Black Lives Matter protests outside the British government’s offices on Whitehall and outside Downing Street.

Reporting on the second attack, 9News said reporter Ben Avery and his camera operator were “ambushed” while making a live report. Footage showed the pair being rushed while trying to retreat from danger, and the audio abruptly cutting out as Avery’s microphone was stolen.

Ms Walsh and 9News released a statement following the morning attack, saying: “The offender was very quickly apprehended by police and has since been charged. Nine News appreciates the enormous pressure our international correspondents are currently under and is offering Sophie all the support she needs.

“Sophie is grateful for the outpouring of support she has received from the public and wishes to reassure our viewers that she is safe and well.”

“I don’t think anyone knows the sound of their true scream until they’re in a situation like that where they feel like it’s a life-or-death scenario,” Ms Walsh later told The Today Show. “I did feel like that in a moment.””

“The European Central Bank has boosted its pandemic emergency support program by an unexpectedly large 600 billion euros to 1.35 trillion euros ($1.5 trillion) in an effort to keep affordable credit flowing to the economy during the steep downturn caused by the virus outbreak.

The new stimulus comes on top of added spending by European governments and similar efforts by the U.S. Federal Reserve, the Bank of England, the Bank of Japan and others around the globe as the world tries to cope with a sharp, simultaneous blow to both developing and rich economies.

The central bank for the 19 countries that use the euro also extended its monetary stimulus program to at least the end of June next year, from the end of 2020 currently.

The bank expects the eurozone economy to shrink by a painful 8.7% this year and to recover by a more modest 5.2% in 2021. President Christine Lagarde warned that “the speed and scale of the rebound are highly uncertain.”…”

  12. UN rights official: Philippine anti-terror bill worrying (abcnews, Jun 4, 2020)
    https://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/rights-official-philippine-anti-terror-bill-worrying-71069112

“New anti-terrorism legislation passed by the Philippine Congress that allows the detention of suspects for up to 24 days without warrants and relaxes human rights safeguards is “very worrying,” a U.N. rights official said Thursday.

The House of Representatives passed the Anti-Terrorism Act of 2020 on Wednesday night after President Rodrigo Duterte urgently endorsed the legislation, despite fears it could threaten human rights and be used against his political opponents. The Senate passed its version in February.

Once signed into law by Duterte, the legislation will replace a 2007 anti-terror law called the Human Security Act which was rarely used, largely because law enforcers can be fined 500,000 pesos ($9,800) for each day they wrongfully detain a terrorism suspect.

Lawmakers removed such safeguards in the new legislation, which increases the number of days that suspects can be detained without warrants from three to 24.

Ravina Shamdasani of the U.N. Human Rights office said the legislation defines terrorism broadly and allows officials to designate people as terrorists in provisions that “may violate the principle of legality under international law.”

“You add to this the context in the Philippines where a lot of human rights organizations are routinely labeled as terrorists, this is very worrying,” Shamdasani said in an online news conference on a new U.N. Human Rights Office report about threats to human rights in the Philippines.

The report said the legislation was among proposed new laws and amendments “with the stated aim of strengthening public order and countering terrorism,” but “which risk eroding constitutional and other legal protections.”

Vice President Leni Robredo said the legislation sparks fears that it could be used to muzzle free expression, especially “in the hands of people who have no qualms about using disinformation, inventing evidence, or finding the smallest of pretexts to silence its critics.”

“This power is very dangerous,” said Robredo, who leads the political opposition.

Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana and other officials played down such fears, saying the legislation contains adequate penalties for abuse and won’t be used against government opponents. The constitution guarantees civil liberties including political protests, which could not be deemed terrorism even if they turn rowdy, he said.

Presidential spokesman Harry Roque cited recent attacks by Muslim militants that displaced villagers in the country’s south, home of minority Muslims in the largely Roman Catholic nation, as proof of the need for a stronger law against terrorism. Military officials say terrorist threats have diminished but remain.

For years, government troops have been battling Abu Sayyaf militants who have been listed as terrorists by both the United States and the Philippines for ransom kidnappings, beheadings and bombings in the restive south.

In 2017, hundreds of militants affiliated with the Islamic State group laid siege to Marawi city in the south. Troops quelled the siege after five months in a massive offensive that left more than 1,000 people dead, mostly militants, and the mosque-studded city in ruins.”

  13. Turkey strips 3 legislators of seats, setting off protest (abcnews, Jun 4, 2020)
    https://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/turkey-strips-legislators-seats-setting-off-protest-71067423

“Turkey’s parliament on Thursday stripped three opposition party deputies of their legislative seats, setting off a raucous protest inside the assembly hall by colleagues who accused the ruling party of an assault on democracy.

Deputy speaker Sureyya Sadi Bilgic read out appeals court decisions confirming the legislators’ convictions, a process that automatically leads to the deputies’ losing their legal immunity and parliamentary seats.

Opposition legislators banged on their desks and chanted slogans denouncing President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s ruling Justice and Development Party, or AK Party, as “the enemy of democracy.”

The move came as tensions in parliament were already running high over a contentious bill that would grant neighborhood watchmen similar powers as the country’s regular police force.

The legislators are Enis Berberoglu of the main opposition Republican People’s Party, or CHP, who went on trial on espionage charges for allegedly leaking to an opposition newspaper images that allegedly showed Turkey’s intelligence agency smuggling weapons into Syria, and Leyla Guven and Musa Farisoglullari of the pro-Kurdish People’s Democratic Party, or HDP, who were convicted of links to Kurdish rebels. The parties deny the accusations and maintain that the cases against the legislators are politically-motivated.

The CHP maintains Berberoglu was stripped of his status and legal immunity prematurely, arguing that his case is still being reviewed by Turkey’s highest court. The party also says the AK Party broke away with the tradition of delaying the reading of the court decisions until the end of the legislative term.

Emin Akbasoglu, a senior AK Party legislator, said the move was in line with the Turkish Constitution.

“The HDP and CHP’s positions that openly praise the crime and the criminal is unacceptable,” he said.

Berberoglu said he would hand himself over to authorities to serve his 18-month prison term.”

  14. Ethiopian domestic workers stranded in crisis-hit Lebanon (abcnews, Jun 4, 2020)
    https://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/ethiopian-domestic-workers-stranded-crisis-hit-lebanon-71064970

“Dozens of domestic workers gathered outside the Ethiopian Consulate in Beirut on Thursday, some inquiring about flights home, others stranded after they were abandoned by employers who claimed they could no longer afford to pay their salaries.

About 180,000 domestic workers in Lebanon, most of them women from Ethiopia, are growing more desperate as a crippling economic and financial crisis sets in, coupled with coronavirus restrictions.

The Labor Ministry organized buses late Wednesday that transported about 35 women left stranded outside the consulate to a hotel in Beirut after they spent the day on the street with their belongings, some of them crying. Scenes on local television prompted the ministry to take action, offering the women shelter until they could be flown out of the country. Lebanon’s airport has been shuttered since mid-March as part of measures to help step the spread of the new coronavirus.

On Thursday, there were new arrivals.

“They are dumping us like trash,” said one worker who had been in Lebanon for seven years and was now looking to go back home after her employers drove her to the consulate.

“We are human, would they accept for their children to be treated this way?” said the woman, Aster, who gave only her first name for fear of reprisal for speaking to the media.

Labor Minister Lamia Douaihy vowed on Twitter to take necessary measures against employers who commit “humanitarian violations.”

Lebanon has been hit by an unprecedented economic and financial crisis made worse by the lockdown related to the virus. The foreign currency crisis has led to many migrants not being paid for months or the value of their salaries declining by more than half. Others have lost their jobs after employers dumped them on the streets or outside their embassies.

Many are unable to go home, because they cannot afford the price of a repatriation flight or because global air travel is severely restricted.

Some among Thursday’s crowd came to inquire about flights back home.

“I came here because I want to travel home. … I have a daughter and I have no work (here), I have no house, I have nothing. Where shall I stay?” said worker Birke Angello.”

  16. The Truth about Interracial Violent Crime

    Debunking the Left’s pernicious lies.
    June 4, 2020
    John Perazzo

Prior to the May 25th death of George Floyd in Minneapolis, a major focus of the media during the preceding two weeks had been a video showing an incident where a young black man named Ahmaud Arbery was fatally shot by two white men in Glynn County, Georgia. The killers say that they pursued Arbery, whom they suspected of having been involved in some recent local burglaries, when they spotted him running through their neighborhood – though some accounts claim that he was merely out for a jog. Eventually a fight broke out, and Arbery was shot and killed. After a video of the deadly altercation went public in early May, there were massive protests in Arbery’s behalf. On May 8 – which would have been Arbery’s 26th birthday – activist Al Sharpton used the Internet to lead a “virtual rally” in the young man’s memory, drawing some 105,000 participants.

In an interview four days later, Sharpton, exhorting members of the black community to “sustain” their “indignation” vis-a-vis the Arbery case for as long as possible, portrayed the Georgia killing as an extension of racist American violence dating back to the epoch of slavery: “It was expected that if you saw a black, that you would suspect that he was a runaway slave, and you had the runaway slave laws that … they would use that to hunt down blacks for vigilante groups, the KKK and others, all the way up until the modern era.”

Television personality Oprah Winfrey likewise characterized Arbery’s death as a consequence of intransigent white racism: “He went out for a jog while being Black. I wonder what was he thinking in those last seconds of his life? Unimaginable to go for a run in 2020 and end up dead because of the color of your skin.”

  17. The Left Owns The Riots

Starting fires for decades — now the country is burning.
    June 4, 2020
    Don Feder

It’s fitting that so many Democratic governors and other swamp creatures (the Pelosi from the Leftist Lagoon) are bashing Trump and rationalizing the coast-to-coast violence that seems almost demonic.

For the Democratic Party, these riots have been a project long in the works.

The rioting has two components – the rage-filled savages who are burning and looting for the insane joy of destruction, and the left’s brownshirts, who are taking advantage of the chaos to bring down what they call the system. The fingerprints of the Party of Plunder/Party of Treason are all over both.

Starting in the 1960s with the Great Society, the Democrats destroyed the black family. Instead of welfare going to families, it went to single mothers. You get more of what you subsidize. Back then, the out-of-wedlock birth rate was 3% for whites and 23% among blacks. Today, it’s 28% and 73% respectively. In some inner cities, it’s as high as 90%.

Boys raised without fathers, especially in decaying neighborhoods, often grow up to be angry, bitter young men – the type who beat helpless strangers, watch stores and homes burn, and dance around the flames.

The Democrats have nurtured this for decades. They can see no connection between single-parent families and all of the pathologies (crime, drug abuse, joblessness, early sexual activity) that afflict inner cities.

      • The analysis is about the political arms of the leftist movement, this means he is leaving out some things (like Antifa and its part in the Kubuki play they are trying to perform for us. It is good about the parts it is covering but is ignoring the way Biden doesn’t stand a chance even if he can manage to recover from his racist gaffs and get a lot of the Blacks to vote for him. We all know that Biden is a puppet who is a liability to the Dems (although him loosing might be one of the pre planned triggers for more riots and increased violence. I will have to think on this idea) As to the Black Churches picking the VP we can take that as a given, Biden has already said that his VP will be a woman and probably a woman of color. With the riots going on this will appeal to the Dem base but the rest will want someone who is well qualified for the position no matter what the sex or race.

Let me think some on this to get a more coherent answer to the question, but over all it is very good and sticks to the facts but doesn’t go far enough in tying things together.

        • There’s a lot packed in, but the context is not familiar to me. Sharpton vs. Ellison?
Tribes where only war is eternal.

          • It is right as far as it goes, but like I said above it ignores the fact that BLM is the semi peaceful political voice of Antifa. In fact if you look at it all of the left wing protest groups from the womens movement with their pink hats to all of the Black Protest groups are under the same management. Most of the members of those groups don’t understand this and thus get into internal squabbles from time to time.

Yes Sharpton vs Ellison is one of the internal struggles, they are middle level management both of which are using their leadership positions to make fortunes and gain enough political power that they don’t pay much if any taxes on their ill gotten gains.

The context is the power of the Protestant Churches in the Black Community, the community where the family is strong is a massive voting block and their Churches all have Ministers who preach politics as well as the word of God. This gives the Religious Organizations a lot of power in the Democrats and in what their Party Platform will say as well as who will be picked for VP. Biden’s handlers have already had him say that he would pick a woman of color. The political branches of the Black Churches are playing the you have to pay off big time if you want us to continue to support you game. This is no longer a new roof or complete restoration of the Church, it is give us part of the big power or we will say stay home. Games like this are why Candice Owens started and is pushing the Blexit group. She wants the Blacks to move beyond tribalism to patriotic nationalism where the black voters will make their picks by who they think will be best for the nation instead of who will give them the most goodies.

For Biden’s handlers to decide this early that the VP has to be a woman of color means that their internal polling shows that both Blacks and Women are no longer a sure thing for the Dems. If as much as 12% or higher of both groups stays home or votes for Trump the Dems are in trouble. This would mean (with luck) that the members of both groups are starting to think for themselves instead of letting a small number of people tell them how to vote. Look at the videos where the Blacks are telling the Antifa types to go to some other neighborhood to burn, this is a good sign that the voting blocks are crumbling.

“On August 22, at the climax of the mass terror in Beijing and other major cities, the CCP CC issued a directive entitled ‘Stipulations of the Ministry of Public Security forbidding the use of police force to suppress the revolutionary student movements,’ which fueled the violence and put the targets of the Red Guards, several thousand people, in a virtually defenseless position. As a result, a significantly increased mass violence was perpetrated…”

  19. Iran’s New Terror Network in Latin America

The arrival in Venezuela this week of the last of five Iranian tankers carrying gasoline to the oil-starved socialist state is not just about Iran seeking to help a fellow nation stricken by the effects of U.S. sanctions.

It is all about strengthening Tehran’s long-standing terrorist infrastructure in Latin America so that it can be used to expand Iran’s terror operations throughout the globe.

Of particular concern is the possibility that Tehran may be tempted to use groups such as Hezbollah, the Iran-backed Lebanese terror group that has been operating in Venezuela for many years, to conduct missions against the U.S. and its allies at Iran’s behest.

There are deepening concerns in U.S military and security circles, for example, that Iran may be planning to use such groups to carry out revenge attacks in retaliation for the assassination of the head of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ Quds Force, Qassem Soleimani, who was killed in January by an American drone strike authorised by U.S. President Donald Trump.

  20. India to Lead Efforts to Cure the World Health Organization

    by Jagdish N. Singh
    June 4, 2020 at 4:00 am

It is heartening to note the 73rd session of the World Health Assembly (May 18-19, 2020) approved a resolution calling for an independent inquiry into the current pandemic outbreak and the World Health Organization’s role in responding to it.

The resolution — brought forward by the European Union, moved by Australia and supported by more than 116 nations — including India and Japan — demands that WHO’s Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus “identify the zoonotic source of the virus and the route of introduction to the human population…” The resolution also calls for an impartial, independent and comprehensive evaluation into the WHO-coordinated international health response to the pandemic.

The importance of these requests hardly needs to be stressed. There is evidence that the WHO’s suppression of the news related to the pandemic outbreak in China overlooked went a long way in the spread of the disease and caused immense loss of life and damage to economies the world over. The feeling goes that the WHO must develop an appropriate mechanism to prevent such pandemics in the future.

One, however, is not sure if and when Tedros will pay attention to implementing this resolution. He does not seem enthusiastic about the probe. He would, he said in his opening remarks at the WHA, “initiate an independent evaluation at the earliest appropriate moment.”

  21. China’s Official Narrative on Wuhan Wet Market Contradicted by Leaked Document

The suggestion by the Chinese regime that the CCP virus originated from the Huanan Seafood Wholesale Market in Wuhan, which sold seafood, wild animals, and fresh produce, is contradicted by an internal investigative report dated Jan. 22 that was reviewed recently by The Epoch Times.

While some of the city’s first cases were connected to the market, the earliest documented patient wasn’t. Scientists still haven’t determined the virus’s origin; U.S. officials, citing intelligence, said the virus was likely naturally occurring, but may have leaked from a virology research lab in Wuhan.

As the world sought to uncover the source of the virus outbreak, Chinese authorities refused offers of assistance from the United States and other countries in research, while keeping mum about their investigations.

In January, Gao Fu, director of China’s Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), claimed twice that the virus came from wild animals sold at the Huanan market. At a Jan. 22 press conference, Gao explained that the virus likely first infected people through contact with wild animals and the environment that the wild animals were in. Then, the virus began mutating and became capable of human-to-human transmission.

“The original source of the virus is wild animals that were sold at the [Huanan] seafood market,” Gao said firmly.

  22. Black and Asian People in England More Likely to Die From CCP Virus, Says Report

LONDON—Black and Asian people in England are up to 50 percent more likely to die after becoming infected with CCP (Chinese Communist Party) virus, an official study said on June 2, putting pressure on the government to outline plans to protect the most at-risk communities.

While the report by Public Health England (PHE) reinforced previous studies that indicated ethnic minority groups were more at risk from the virus, it was not accompanied by specific government advice for those people.

Health Secretary Matt Hancock said that equalities minister Kemi Badenoch would look at the issue further.

“We will put action in place as soon as we can. We won’t wait for a report,” Hancock said.

Doctors, politicians, and footballers have been among those vocal in expressing concern about the unexplained higher mortalities in ethnic minorities.

The report said that people of Bangladeshi ethnicity had approximately twice the risk of death of people who were white British.

  24. Turkey vows more support to secure gains in Libya conflict
    https://www.metro.us/turkey-vows-more-support/

“President Tayyip Erdogan vowed on Thursday to ramp up Turkey’s support for its ally in Libya to lock in recent military gains, and promised joint exploration for oil at sea following talks in Ankara ahead of a potential ceasefire push.

Fayez al Serraj, leader of Libya’s internationally recognised Government of National Accord (GNA), met Erdogan for talks hours after his forces – backed by Turkey – said they regained full control of the capital Tripoli.

Turkey threw its support behind the GNA in November after signing a military cooperation pact alongside a maritime demarcation deal, which gives Ankara exploration rights in the eastern Mediterranean that Greece and others reject.

Turkey’s intervention in the conflict has pushed back Khalifa Haftar’s eastern-based Libyan National Army (LNA) – backed by the United Arab Emirates, Russia and Egypt – which had been attacking the GNA in Tripoli since April 2019.

The GNA’s latest advance could hasten steps toward a potential truce, underlining Turkey’s growing influence in the resource-rich region where Erdogan has few close allies.

Turkey’s support for the GNA “will increasingly continue,” Erdogan said alongside Serraj, adding that Hafter and his backers “will be judged by history.” A solution can only come under United Nations’ auspices, he said.

“We aim to expand our cooperation including exploration and drilling operations to take advantage of natural resources in the eastern Mediterranean,” including Libyan territory, Erdogan added…”

  25. AFP – Twitter Refuses To Rule Out Suspending Trump’s Account

Trump has relied on Twitter to get out his message without submitting himself to questions from reporters.

Twitter Refuses To Rule Out Suspending Trump’s Account

Youth-focused Snapchat on Wednesday accused Trump of inciting “racial violence”.

A top Twitter executive on Thursday refused to rule out suspending Donald Trump’s account if the US president continued posting incendiary messages such as those about the George Floyd protests.

Trump has relied on Twitter to get out his message without submitting himself to questions from reporters. His 81.7 million followers have made the @realDonaldTrump account one of Twitter’s 10 most popular.

But the US leader has been at war with the social media platform he uses daily since it took the unprecedented decision to fact-check two of his tweets about postal ballots last month.

Twitter followed that up Friday by covering up a message from Trump warning protesters outraged by unarmed black man Floyd’s death at police hands that “when the looting starts, the shooting starts”.

A message above that tweet warned that it “violated Twitter Rules about glorifying violence”. Viewers had to click on the message to see Trump’s original posting.

Twitter public policy strategy director Nick Pickles told a UK parliamentary hearing Thursday that the platform had decided to put Trump’s tweets to the same review process as it has for all other verified public figures.

“Whenever a tweet by any user is posted and reported to us, we consider it under our rules,” Pickles told a virtual hearing of the cross-party digital committee.

“If any user on Twitter continues to break our rules, then we will continue to have discussions about any and all avenues open to us.”

Pickles was then asked twice whether that meant Trump’s account could be suspended if he continued violating the rules.

“Every Twitter account is subject to the Twitter rules,” he said both times.

Twitter’s decision to fact-check and hide Trump’s posting has put pressure on Facebook and other social media platforms to follow suit.

Facebook chief executive Mark Zuckerberg’s refusal to sanction false or inflammatory Trump posts sparked a virtual walkout by hundreds of the company’s employees on Monday.

Zuckerberg said in his defence that he mentioned the “inflammatory and harmful” when he fielded a call from Trump last Friday.

Youth-focused Snapchat on Wednesday accused Trump of inciting “racial violence” and warned that it would not promote that type of content.

  35. Thousands Flee Niger Refugee Camp After Jihadist Attack
    https://www.thedefensepost.com/2020/06/04/thousands-flee-niger-refugee-camp-after-jihadist-attack/

“Thousands of people have fled a camp hosting 20,000 Malian refugees in western Niger after a deadly jihadist attack devastated the site, the United Nations said Wednesday.

Around 50 jihadists on motorbikes killed three local leaders, abducted a guard, destroyed communication antennas, and sabotaged the water supply at the Intikane site near the Malian border in a coordinated attack on Monday.

Intikane is home to around 20,000 Malian refugees and 15,000 internally displaced Niger citizens — all of whom previously fled their villages due to jihadist violence — as well as the local population.

Now many are on the move again, with some 3,000 people fleeing to Tlemces, a site 27 kilometers (43 miles) from Intikane, the UN refugee agency UNHCR in Niamey told AFP. UNHCR official Kourouma Mamady Fatta said the agency was carrying out an assessment of the damage and was trying to get the water supply flowing again.

The governor of the Tahoua region, Moussa Abdourahamane, said, “Intikane is losing its population, people are moving towards Tlemces.” The jihadists “attacked the sensitive points of the site — they cut communication lines to isolate the population and they destroyed the sources for drinking water,” he told the national public radio station after visiting Intikane.

A radio report said troops had been deployed to secure the area.

Niger is home to nearly 60,000 Malian refugees who fled their country’s north after it fell under the control of Al-Qaeda-linked jihadist groups in 2012, according to the UN.

A French-led military intervention pushed them out, but swathes of the West African country remain out of government control and awash with armed groups.

The Islamic State in the Greater Sahara (EIGS), carries out frequent attacks over Niger’s western borders, while the southeast faces regular assaults from Nigerian jihadist group Boko Haram.”
