Two unidentified terrorists were killed in an encounter in the Khud, Hanjipoa area of Kulgam in Jammu and Kashmir on Monday, the state police confirmed. The encounter comes days after the death of two security personnel in an attack at a Border Security Force camp in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pandach area, near Soura in Srinagar. Asia political expert and author Gordon Chang claimed China’s President Xi Jinping’s actions suggest he intended to spread coronavirus around the world – something the communist nation has always denied. During an interview with Express, Mr Chang said he believed China had behaved maliciously and he claims there was evidence to suggest they had taken steps to attack all nations of the world. He also insisted the origin of the virus was not as important as scrutinising China for how they behaved at the beginning of the pandemic.
Mr Chang said: “China maliciously spread this disease beyond its borders.

“But what is important is not how the disease started but rather what Beijing did in response to it.”

Mr Chang also highlighted the key concerns he had with China’s initial reaction to the coronavirus pandemic.
He questioned the information coming out of China and highlighted his fears the secretive country was willing and hoping to deceive the world.
He said: “Beijing only announced human-human transmission on January 20 but doctors in Wuhan knew that the second week of December.
“If during that interim period China had said nothing that would have been grossly irresponsible.
“But what Beijing tried to do was to deceive the world into thinking that it was not human to human transmission.”
He claims that China pressured other nations to continue to allow travel from China, despite their knowledge of the dangerousness of the virus.
He continued: “At the same time Beijing knew that people could spread this, it pressured countries to not impose travel restriction and quarantines on arrivals from China.
“You put those two facts together and you come to an unthinkable conclusion.”
President Xi Jinping caused outrage earlier this week when he announced China had behaved responsibly and transparently with the rest of the world during the coronavirus pandemic.
President Xi also claimed China had turned the tide on the virus and protected the life and well being of its people.
China has consistently urged the United States to stop what it sees as virus slander.
The US should stop wasting time in its fight against the coronavirus and work with China to combat it, rather than spreading lies and attacking the country, the Chinese government’s top diplomat Wang Yi said on Sunday.
State Councillor Wang, speaking at his annual news conference on the sidelines of China’s parliament, expressed his deep sympathies to the United States for the pandemic, where the death toll is expected to surpass 100,000 in the coming days, the highest number of any country.
“Regretfully, in addition to the raging coronavirus, a political virus is also spreading in the United States. This political virus is using every opportunity to attack and smear China,” said Wang, who is also China’s foreign minister.
“Some politicians have ignored the most basic facts and concocted too many lies about China and plotted too many conspiracies,” he added.
“I want to say here: Don’t waste precious time any longer, and don’t ignore lives,” Wang said.
“What China and the United States need to do the most is to first learn from each other and share their experience in fighting against the epidemic, and help each country fight it.”

The first of two shots struck a building but the second fatally pierced her chest.
Her father Ismail Hachem – a former soldier – arrived in England ten years ago as an asylum seeker. He was granted British citizenship last year.
He said his family sought ‘to find safety’ after he was shot in the back.

“This is now happening in front of our eyes,” he said.

He said the 27-nation bloc “should follow our own interests and values and avoid being instrumentalized by one or the other.”
But while China’s rise was “impressive,” Borrell said current relations between the Brussels and Beijing weren’t always based on trust, transparency and reciprocity.

“The British government will make plans to reduce the United Kingdom’s reliance on imports from foreign countries like China after a study revealed that the UK is reliant on the communist country for the supply of 71 “critical goods” including pharmaceuticals, personal protective equipment (PPE), and electronics.
Headed by Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs Dominic Raab, codename “Project Defend” will examine the resilience of the UK’s economy and supply chain vulnerabilities of “essential supplies” strategic for national security.
One of the two Whitehall groups conducting the review will look into what the UK needs to do to bolster “onshore” supplies production, such as chemical components for drugs, with the government even considering intervening to “repatriate” essential manufacturing.
“The way China has been acting has really alarmed people in Downing Street,” one source told The Times.
Another insider told the newspaper of record: “We’re seeing resilience as a national security issue. If we are reliant on other states for particular things that is, in effect, a national security concern. The question is how can you mitigate that? The UK struggled to obtain coronavirus testing kits for the Chinese virus, as well as ventilators and personal protective equipment (PPE), with the production of these items being outsourced overseas in recent decades, including to China. Brexit Party leader Nigel Farage, who takes a hard line on Chinese dominance, warned in March that coronavirus exposes Western countries’ reliance on the oppressive communist country for their strategic supply chains.
Earlier this month, a report by the Henry Jackson Society revealed that the UK is dependent on China in its supply chains for 71 “critical goods” categories including electronics, chemicals, and drugs essential for producing anti-viral drugs and antibiotics. Between 80 and 90 per cent of the UK’s drugs production relies on foreign imports.
The government has been coming under mounting pressure from its own MPs to reduce dependence on China as well as to cut ties with Chinese government-backed firm Huawei, which Prime Minister Boris Johnson said in January could be involved in developing the UK’s 5G network. The move was condemned by intelligence partners and British politicians who warned it could threaten security and even endanger relations between the Five Eyes (Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, and the United States of America) and trading partners.
Conservative MPs have also warned that China is going to use the economic crisis caused by its coronavirus to swoop in and buy struggling British technology companies.
On Wednesday during Prime Minister’s Questions, Tory MP for South Dorset Richard Drax asked Mr Johnson if the UK would follow France and conduct a “root and branch review” of the defence supply chain, following French concerns that China is buying up defence-rated companies that are going bust during the pandemic. Mr Drax also asked whether the prime minister is considering rowing back on his Huawei decision.
While failing to answer the question on the Chinese tech giant directly, Mr Johnson said: “We are certainly bringing forward measures to ensure that we protect our technological base. [The defence committee will] be hearing a lot more about that in the next few weeks.”
A YouGov poll from May 19th found that nearly half, 47 per cent, of Britons saw the prospect of China becoming a superpower “more of a threat” to Britain, with just 11 per cent thinking it could represent an “opportunity” (22 per cent responded “neither”, 20 per cent “don’t know”).
While Britons, on the whole, appear sceptical of China’s motives on the world stage, they also in the majority back the communist country facing a lawsuit for covering up the dangers presented by the Wuhan-born COVID-19 in the early weeks of the outbreak.

By building more and bigger global government, Blair believes leaders could find a vaccine together, accelerate the development of therapeutics and testing capability, while keeping the international economy afloat.
“It’s that global coordination, the absence of which means that each individual country’s less effective at dealing with the disease. That’s the thing that worries me,” he stated.
The left-wing former Labour leader was asked his opinion on Trump’s suggestions on fighting the epidemic, he said: “I think most people would understand what I would think, but it’s probably better sometimes not to say it.”
Earlier this month the Tony Blair Institute announced it has “teams” advising world governments “to keep their people safe during this pandemic — not just in respect of Covid-19 itself but also the political and economic collateral damage.”
It also echoed his own personal call for more resources to be poured into the World Health Organization:

“Mosques across Great Britain could begin daily broadcasts of the Islamic call to prayer through loudspeakers after they were given special dispensation to play the adhan in the holy month of Ramadan.
Some 25 mosques in London and dozens more throughout the country began to use public address systems to connect with Muslims last month as they were unable to attend religious services during the coronavirus crisis.
The scheme was started by the London council of Kensington and Chelsea, which gave permission to the Al-Manaar mosque — the largest mosque in the borough — to begin broadcasting the Islamic message every night during Ramadan, an act that was previously illegal under noise pollution laws.
The move was picked up by the Waltham Forest Council in north-east London, which allowed nine mosques to play the call to prayer through loudspeakers every night and twice on Fridays to mark the Jumu’ah — the Friday prayer celebrated by Muslims) — according to the Mail on Sunday.
The Conservative leader of Kensington and Chelsea Council, Elizabeth Campbell, claimed that “We’ve had a really positive response overall” from local constituents.
On Friday, the call to prayer was performed in London’s Canary Wharf, one of the country’s top financial centres.
With the end of Ramadan, local Islamic groups are seeking to make the call to prayer a permanent fixture of life in the United Kingdom.
The imam at the Minhaj-ul-Quran mosque in Newham, East London, Allama Sadiq Qureshi, said that the Newham Muslim Forum, which represents Islamic organisations throughout the city, will be making an application following Ramadan, saying: “We want this practice to continue in the future.”
“Just one symbolic adhan per day, if Newham council allow us. Just one adhan at the day time, at dhuhr [afternoon prayer], then it will be really good,” Qureshi went on.
The Waltham Forest Islamic Association (WFIA) which played the call to prayer so loud that it could be heard within a one-mile radius of the mosque, has also called for the practice to continue.
Raja Ilyas, the general secretary of WFIA said: “My wish is that if we can recite adhan at least at Jumu’ah or one time [per day], but it’s my wish. I can’t force my wish on anybody, especially on the local council and local residents – it’s my wish being a Muslim.”
The call to prayer known in Arabic as the adhan, has been translated by the BBC as “God is great, there is no God but Allah. Muhammad is the messenger of Allah. Come to prayer”.
However, many have argued that this is a deliberate mistranslation, as the phrase “Allahu akbar” would be more accurately rendered as “[our] God is greater” instead of “God is great”.
Charities like Christian Concern have therefore argued that the call to prayer should not be compared to, for example, the ringing of church bells, because it is “not prayer directed to Allah, but a public declaration that Allah is God and that Muhammad is his messenger” — in other words, an assertion of religious superiority.
“There is no doubt that in Muslim countries, Christians are not allowed to broadcast any call to prayer or act of worship. In many Muslim countries, Christians are heavily persecuted,” observed Tim Dieppe on the Christian charity’s website.
“Here in the UK we allow freedom of worship and freedom of religion, as we should. But freedom of worship does not need to extend to broadcasting a proclamation that Allah is greater and that there is no god but Allah,” he argued.”

“I don’t use the phrase low-skilled as it’s inaccurate and demeaning,” the Scottish National Party (SNP) minister said, lauding what he described as the “massive” contribution of migrants to Britain’s healthcare system during the coronavirus pandemic.
“This crisis has shown migrants make a huge contribution not just to the economy, but to the enrichment of our society,” he told the Daily Record.
“There are some people — including some politicians — who have not appreciated the contribution of migrants in the past, but I think generally the public do,” he said.
“I think what this has shown is sometimes the UK Government’s perception of people’s views on migration is not entwined with reality.”
Despite only six per cent of Scots wanting to see more immigration to Scotland, where the population is now at a record high, Macpherson went on to demand that Westminster draw up plans to allow Holyrood to meet the country’s migration “needs”.
“The new immigration system envisaged by the UK Government is deeply worrying because it will stop us being able to staff our key sectors in the short term, and will hamper our economic growth in the medium term,” he claimed.
“In the longer-term, our demographic challenges are stark. We have a declining birth rate, which means all our working-age population growth has come from migration,” he added — apparently not even considering Hungarian-style policies supporting more local people to have families as an option.
A self-styled “civic nationalist” party, the pro-EU, pro-LGBT, Scottish National Party takes every opportunity to lobby for more immigration, including having called for Westminster to allow mass chain migration — so-called “family reunion” — so that non-European migrants “can spend Christmas with family”.
Party leader and Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has repeatedly banged the drum for open borders, asserting that Scotland’s “most important national challenge” is using mass migration to grow the country’s population.

Germany: Activists call on govt to take in refugees from Greek camps at Berlin demo
Dozens of activists took part in a rally under the slogan “Leave no one behind,” in front of Berlin’s Rotes Rathaus, the seat of the state government, on Sunday, to demand that Berlin authorities accept refugees living in Greek camps amid the coronavirus pandemic.
The protest was organised by the international movement “Seebruecke” under the slogan “We have space. Leave no one behind” in support and solidarity with refugees and migrants in the Greek camps.
Participants in the demonstration brought old shoes and paper boats to the stairs of the main entrance to the town hall, in order to bring attention to those stuck in the camps.
Activists demanded the authorities accept more refugees to Germany quickly and eliminate the camps including Moria, where residents have been staging protests for months.
Similar rallies were planned to take place in 50 cities in eight countries on Saturday.
In early May, the first 47 refugees were brought to Germany from Moria camp in Lesbos, eight of them arrived in Berlin.

As every news junkie and Webhead knows by now, Judge Emmet Sullivan has accelerated his bizarre downhill skid by hiring himself some counsel to respond to an order from the D.C. appeals court to “personally” defend his previous judicial enormity.
That enormity, perpetrated only days before, was Sullivan’s appointment of a live, mirror-fogging amicus curiae to argue – in Sullivan’s court – a case against the Justice Department’s motion to drop its charges against LTG Michael Flynn.
The appeals court is especially exercised about this because it directly violates the D.C. appeals court ruling in 2016, on U.S. v. Fokker Services, that you ain’t a-‘posed-ta do that. It’s not the court’s job to wage battles against prosecutorial discretion.
We could continue to waste our time tsk-tsking fruitlessly over Judge Sullivan and how strangely he is behaving. But that will get us nowhere. If he’s merely gone looney-tunes, the Bench Police need to do something pronto. Priority one: reassign the Flynn case.

Bloomberg – China’s ‘Bat Woman’ Warns Coronavirus Is Just Tip of the Iceberg
Shi Zhengli, a virologist renowned for her work on coronavirus in bats, said in an interview on Chinese state television that viruses being discovered now are “just the tip of the iceberg” and called for international cooperation in the fight against epidemics.
Known as China’s “bat woman,” the deputy director of the Wuhan Institute of Virology said research into viruses needs scientists and governments to be transparent and cooperative, and that it is “very regrettable” when science is politicized.
“If we want to prevent human beings from suffering from the next infectious disease outbreak, we must go in advance to learn of these unknown viruses carried by wild animals in nature and give early warnings,” Shi told CGTN. “If we don’t study them there will possibly be another outbreak.”
Her interview with TV channel CGTN coincided with the start of the National People’s Congress, an annual meeting of China’s top leadership in Beijing. This year’s NPC comes as the country’s relationship with the U.S. turns increasingly frayed, with President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Michael Pompeo both saying the coronavirus sweeping the world is likely linked to the Wuhan laboratory.
China has rejected the accusations. Shi has said that the genetic characteristics of the viruses she’s worked with didn’t match those of the coronavirus spreading in humans. In a social media post, she wrote she would “swear on my life” the pandemic had nothing to do with her lab.
In another interview with CGTN over the weekend, the director of the Wuhan Institute of Virology, Wang Yanyi, said the idea that the virus escaped from the lab was “pure fabrication.”

Shi Zhengli, a Chinese virologist based at the Wuhan Institute of Virology, has long been known as China’s “bat woman” for tracking down dozens of SARS-like diseases in bats.
She has been the focus of conspiracy theories during the COVID-19 outbreak. Her work and the lab have been accused of being the origins of the novel coronavirus.
Shi recently published her new research into SARS-related pathogens, animal hosts and evolution.

Flinders’ University Professor Nikolai Petrovsky says it’s proving difficult to explain how COVID-19 was “clearly perfectly adapted to humans from day one” which is not typical in a virus which has spread from wild animals.
Professor Petrovsky has completed a scientific study, currently undergoing peer review, in conjunction with La Trobe University in Victoria, which found COVID-19 was uniquely adapted for transmission to humans, far more than any other animal, including bats.
He told Sky News this highly unusual finding left open the possibility that the virus leaked from a laboratory.
Although unconfirmed, it is widely believed the deadly virus originated from a live animal market in Wuhan, but Professor Petrovsky said when facts are uncovered which “don’t seem to fit what people are saying, then you’re obliged to make them public somehow”.
“This virus is amazingly adapted to humans and that’s not normal in a situation where a virus has come from a wild animal to a human.
“Typically it takes a while for that virus to adjust to a human environment, (but) this virus was clearly perfectly adapted to humans from day one”.
Professor Petrovsky said although this is unusual it could still be a “natural experiment that nature has thrown at us,” which is why he couldn’t rule any theory in or out as they are “all still possibilities that need to be addressed”.

The novel coronavirus likely originated from an animal, probably sold in one of China’s notorious wet markets, according to Health Minister Greg Hunt.
Experts agree COVID-19 originated from the Chinese city of Wuhan, although its exact origins is unknown.
Zoonotic diseases is where a pathogen passes from an animal into a human, which is how Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) originated.
Some have speculated the disease was created in a “cell-culture experiment” in a laboratory in Wuhan, although this has yet to be determined.
Minister Hunt told reporters while he is not ruling anything out, the indications are this disease transmitted from an animal into a human.
Our best advice remains it came from a zoonotic, or animal sources,” he said.
“But this is precisely why we argued for an impartial, independent and comprehensive international evaluation.
“We know it eventuated in Wuhan, we know the first detected case was within the wet markets as for the precise origins of transfer, well that is for the disease detectives, but our overwhelming is that it likely came from animals to humans.”

Now Senate Democrats have cited the incident in Senate Resolution 580 which condemns the terms “Wuhan Virus” and “Chinese Virus”, that correctly describe the origin of the pandemic, as likely to lead to “Asian Americans being harassed, assaulted, and scapegoated.” While the resolution is clearly aimed at President Trump, who has insisted on describing the virus as the “Chinese Virus”, and at conservatives who have resisted the WHO’s efforts to obscure the origins of the outbreak in the People’s Republic of China, a survey of the anti-Asian attacks, including those cited by Democrats, tells a different story.
The resolution describes the subway attack as part of the “incidents of anti-Asian violence occurring in March 2020… a woman wearing a mask was kicked and punched at a New York City subway station.”

The World Health Organization has suspended testing the malaria drug hydroxychloroquine in COVID-19 patients due to safety concerns, WHO Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said on Monday.
Hydroxycholoroquine has been touted by Donald Trump and others as a possible treatment for the disease caused by the novel coronavirus. The U.S. President has said he was taking the drug to help prevent infection.
“The executive group has implemented a temporary pause of the hydroxychloroquine arm within the Solidarity trial while the safety data is reviewed by the data safety monitoring board,” Tedros told an online briefing.
He said the other arms of the trial – a major international initiative to hold clinical tests of potential treatments for the virus – were continuing.
The WHO has previously recommended against using hydroxychloroquine to treat or prevent coronavirus infections, except as part of clinical trials.
Dr. Mike Ryan, head of the WHO emergencies programme, said the decision to suspend trials of hydroxychloroquine had been taken out of “an abundance of caution”.

A clinical trial of malaria drug hydroxychloroquine has been suspended by the World Health Organisation amid safety concerns, the body’s chief has confirmed.
“The executive group has implemented a temporary pause of the hydroxychloroquine arm within the Solidarity trial while the safety data is reviewed by the data safety monitoring board. The other arms of the trial are continuing,” WHO Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus told an online briefing.
The drug has been repeatedly endorsed by a world leaders including Brazil’s Jair Bolsonaro and US president Donald Trump — who yesterday said he had just finished a course of the medicine, which he claimed to have been taking as a preventative measure.
The move comes after a study published in the The Lancet medical journal said that the use of the drug increased the risk of death by 34 per cent and a 137 per cent increased risk of serious heart arrhythmias.
“Our large-scale, international, real-world analysis supports the absence of a clinical benefit of chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine and points to potential harm in hospitalised patients with COVID-19,” said the authors of the study.
The same study concluded that patients receiving hydroxychloroquine and an antibiotic faced a 45 per cent increased risk of death and a 411 per cent increased risk of serious heart arrhythmias.
Mr Ghebreyesus emphasised that the concerns about the drug relate only to its use to treat Covid-19, and that both hydroxychloroquine and chloroquine are accepted as generally safe for use in patients with autoimmune diseases or malaria.
The use of the drug by Mr Trump caused a storm of controversy with observers asking why White House medical professionals would allow him to take a drug of questionable efficacy, or if he was even taking it at all.
A memo released by White House physician Commander Sean Conley did not explicitly say that the president had been given a prescription, merely that taking the drug as a preventative measure had been discussed after a valet had test positive for Covid-19.
The Food and Drug Administration issued a dire warning about the use of the drug in late April reminding both healthcare professionals and patients of the risks associated with the drug.
“Hydroxychloroquine and chloroquine have not been shown to be safe and effective for treating or preventing Covid-19. They are being studied in clinical trials for Covid-19, and we authorised their temporary use during the Covid-19 pandemic for treatment of the virus in hospitalised patients when clinical trials are not available,” the agency warned.
In Brazil, President Bolsonaro unveiled rules loosening protocols around the use of chloroquine in the treatment of Covid-19, despite a lack of any clinical proof that it is effective in treating the virus or mitigating its effects. The new regulations allow the drug to be given to people with milder symptoms.

Germany: Trial of alleged accomplices of far-right terror group “Revolution Chemnitz” postponed
The trial against six suspected accomplices of the German right-wing terror group “Revolution Chemnitz” was postponed until July 11 after the reading of charges in Chemnitz on Monday.
Footage filmed at the Music School of Chemnitz, where the hearing was held due to the coronavirus pandemic, shows judges entering a concert hall that served as the court room, where the lawyers and suspects were waiting for the charges to be read.
The suspects stand accused of threatening and injuring park visitors on Chemnitz’s castle pond island in Chemnitz in September 2018, following a demonstration of the right-wing “Pro Chemnitz” movement. They were reportedly armed with beer bottles and quartz gloves.
Earlier in March, Dresden’s Higher Regional Court, sentenced eight men to several years in prison, after ruling they were guilty of being involved with right-wing extremist group “Revolution Chemnitz,” which is considered a terrorist organisation, and whose members reportedly planned violent acts and the purchasing of weapons.

Young people are joining the rich and are fleeing New York for the suburbs after the coronavirus lockdown left many professionals reconsidering city life as companies begin to permanently adopt work-from-home models.
As COVID-19 gripped the country in mid March, residents of New York City’s wealthiest neighborhoods fled to ride out the lockdown at their vacation homes, while many young people hunkered down in the suburbs with their parents.
Some were forced to break their leases and move back to their hometowns because they could no longer afford the city’s exorbitant rent prices after losing their jobs, while others have continued paying for their cramped city apartments while they shelter elsewhere.
The majority intend to return at the end of the lockdown period, but the economic impact of the pandemic as well as the shift to remote working has led some people to ditch the city for good.

“Cyprus will deport 17 migrants who are being held on suspicion of having links to extremist groups or involved in acts of terror, the country’s interior ministry said Monday.
The men are currently being held in a migrants’ detention facility and their deportation will proceed once commercial air traffic to and from the country is restored after the full lifting of all coronavirus restrictions, the ministry told The Associated Press in a statement.
It said intelligence provided by security agencies and law enforcement authorities including Europol and Interpol suggested that the men may have either been implicated in terror activities or belong to extremist groups.
The ministry didn’t disclose details about the men, their nationalities, which security agencies provided intelligence and with which groups they may be linked.
Cyprus has received about 3,000 asylum-seekers since the start of the year, with most arriving before the lockdown came into effect in late March.
The Cypriot government says an influx of migrant arrivals in the past few years has ranked the country among those European Union member states with the highest number of asylum applications relative to their population size.”
