This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

All I wanted to do was buy my wife those hoopie wire things that go around her garden to keep the dog out.
We’ve come a long way, baby, in a very short time. We’ve sped by many of our literary touchstones along the way. Brave New World, 1984, Animal farm, The Metamorphasis–all have shown us something relevant as we barrel towards our Brave New Normal. Then there are the more contemporary cultural iconic creations such as Minority Report, Children of Men, or even Soylent Green. Anyhow, you get the drift. Whatever is going on is relatable in its chaos and weirdness to the fictional dystopias of our great creators. Note that not one of these works of fiction is devoid of Man’s hidden hand mischievously puppeteering behind the curtain. Is this a limitation on the imaginations that did the writing, or just the way it has to be? Because suspecting that hidden conspirators are responsible for our plights hangs over this pandemic like a million-pound electro magnet pulling on our worries and curiosity. Ed Snowdon speaks of our elected, and non-elected tech authorities as if it is a given that they seek supreme control over our lives. If he were not a Russian asset he’d be dead, I think, or in U.S. prison. Putin cares little for human rights. Therefore Snowden must necessarily be regarded as another stream in the firehose of information drowning our minds. I want to believe what he says is true because I am starving for any uncompromised, unencumbered truth. However sowing the seeds of distrust in our government and undermining faith in our societies was always the Soviet playbook. Firehosing effectively elevates information to a commodity. Mining it for nuggets of truth isn’t easy. You have to sift through tons of dirt, first. Even then you have to triplecheck. The other day, for example, Zerohedge carried a story about MSNBC lies. This makes ZH appear truthful even though we know ZH will give us those token nuggets just so we accept the tons of dirt they also dump on us. Alas, I promised I would try to not state the obvious here, so…
I lined up outside the hardware store with another twenty people. I also had to return a light switch that turned out to not fit. I waited in line for twenty minutes before I got to the door of the store. That’s when the guy told me I had to be in that other line, just over there, for returns. I would either have to move over there, or go ahead and do my shopping then come back out and get into the return line. I didn’t want to wait again, so I opted to shop for my garden hoops. Maybe by the time I was done the return line would be shorter. There were about 10 people standing there now.
Inside the store I was first made to stop as the receptionist put a useless squirt of disinfectant on my gloved hands. There were lines on the floor indicating directional walking lanes. Some people wore masks with no gloves, which I think is weird. The numbers of shoppers in the store is controlled to maintain social distancing. I arrived at the garden center. There was a young woman guarding the sliding door.
“Just so you know, sir, if you go out here you can’t come back this way. If you have other shopping to do I suggest you do it first then come back. You can pay for everything in the garden center.”
I did as I was told. On a good day I can be patient. The store didn’t have my replacement switch, however, so I came back to the garden center. Now there was another lineup of about 10 people ahead of me. I waited. I was determined not to let it bother me, even though I’m always doing the accounting in my mind. Thus far my time investment in this retail safari yielded nothing but a pack of triple A batteries. Finally it was my turn, again. The guard smiled and let me pass.
What the heck does Snowden do, anyway? How does he make a living? What is his relationship to the Russian government? For a smart guy like him who’s been stuck in his apartment for years, we can be sure he understands his place as a commodity.
When people are sucked in and burned by propaganda they become hypercritical by default. They vow to themselves that they won’t trust anything. Take the 5G example. It is an enigma wrapped in a riddle much like the new corona. Science says 5G is safe. Many good people campaign against it even though it may advance humanity. They have not separated Chinese communist Huawei 5G from our own companies offering the same thing. Safe 5G is not the problem. The problem is the provider. Thank you Mr. Firehose for muddying the waters again. It takes superhuman effort to constantly remove the dirt from the nuggets. Good people trying to do the right thing are effectively nullified in their efforts because they are confused.
I looked for the stupid hoops in the garden center. They didn’t have much, and looking at what they did have didn’t inspire much confidence. The hoops would keep the dog out but not the rabbit. I’d chased one away that morning. The gaps were too big.

Well, the joke was on me. They wanted forty bucks for sixteen lousy feet of hoopie things. Forget it, I told the guy who was looking up the stock in his computer. All I had were these batteries I’d grabbed. I went looking for the cashier.
I don’t even understand, exactly what extending the lockdown means. I mean, I know what it means but I’m not sure exactly what it will look like. PT was right at the beginning when he said the toll from the lockdown would be greater than that of the virus. Remember that? Someone was giving him good advice then. Whatever it will be, extending the lockdown will be literally suicide. Anyone who knows dogs knows that a chained dog goes cross. If there is not cognizant, willful intention to do harm to our society by the actions of our authorites right now, then the likes of Trudeau and Democrat leaders are too stupid for words. And since I won’t believe this because it let’s them off the hook, those leaders who want to lock us down are just plain evil. Everyone enforcing the control beneath the elected ones is a dutiful shepherd for his pay check. Control is so easy when it’s attached to a pay check..
Now the line for the garden center cash was a good hundred feet long. It was made up mostly of seniors buying their twenty-five little friggin’ bean plants for their gardens. I’m not knocking them, I was just really frustrated. The line wasn’t even moving. Everyone obediently stood on their distancing spots six feet apart. This would take forever. Finally I looked around and found a store employee. “Hey, buddy,” I said. “Take these, will ya?” Ok, he replied. He was Chinese with a thick accent. I handed him my batteries and walked away.
I am not geared for control. I wonder how many men, not to mention the A-type personalities, are absorbing this like a poison. Floor dots and arrows. One-way doors and lineups. Supply chain disruptions and endless delays. Retail feels more and more like shopping in Budapest in the ’80s. Nasty store managers and not much on the shelves and alot that is over priced.
I was born free, and am too old to adapt well to being placed under the control of a bureaucracy that is out of control. I don’t need a conspiracy theory to see petty tyrants controlling the minutia of my time and energy. Stand here, walk that way, wait here, think this, don’t say that…
The return line was now about forty people long. Funny, I went to buy a fence but got all fenced in. I left empty handed.
The big grocery store in my town is Walmart, they have the 6 ft marks and the arrows that point the direction you are suppose to shop. The only time the dots are paid attention to are in the check out line and the arrows are ignored as are the clerks who say we have to follow the arrows.
There is a line in the John Wayne movie “Allegheny Uprising” that goes, “When you start holding one law in contempt soon you will hold all laws in contempt”. From what I can remember the people started ignoring a lot of the laws during the 55 MPH speed limit, and are ignoring and protesting a lot more because of the lock down.
The left in their quest to seize total control of all of our lives are creating the very rebels they fear, instead of teaching people to be good little serfs they are teaching us to rebel in every way we can. You see it at the protests, the ordinary people are turning out in droves to protest the ignorant lock down orders and a bunch of them (in the Red States with civilized gun laws) turn up armed. In several states the members of the legislatures are staying home on the days they know there is going to be a protest. They are afraid of the protesters, which they should be, the protesters are free people not slaves, the government needs to fear the wrath of the people not the people fearing the wrath of the government.
I don’t know when the kinetic counter revolutions will start but they aren’t far away, yesterday I posted a video from Guns and Gadgets about how the ATF has send out warning memos to their field offices about the boogaloo is close to starting.
No mask, no spray, no gloves and I walk backwards up some aisles—my feet are going in the right direction. Down the road we may find out all the spraying is making people sick.

Digging through the dirt of disinfo to get to the nuggets of truth is sometimes worth it. What really gets me is the CANDY coating, the yummies I really want to believe, and especially those I swallow. Most will pass through the system, no harm done, but some will stick and gum up the works. Those are the ones that can do damage, if not purged regularly.

“A leaked chat between Italian magistrates revealed that while they admitted thinking in private that former interior minister Matteo Salvini’s migrant policies were correct and legal, they chose to attack him publicly anyway.
The leaked messages were made on WhatsApp in 2018 while Salvini served as interior minister. During that time, judges were continually attacking the League leader for his policy that closed Italy’s ports to migrant transport NGO vessels operating in the Mediterranean.
Paolo Auriemma, chief prosecutor of the city of Viterbo, stated in one message revealed by newspaper La Verità: “I’m sorry to say that I don’t really see where Salvini is wrong. Illegitimate attempts are made to enter Italy, and the Minister of the Interior intervenes to prevent this from happening. And I don’t understand what the Agrigento Prosecutor has to do with it.”
According to an Il Giornale report on Thursday, the message was met with a response from magistrate Luca Palamara, who said: “You are right. But now we must attack.”
Last year, Palamara was investigated on corruption charges after allegedly taking €40,000 (£36,000/$44,000) from lawyers who were at the centre of another corruption investigation.
During the WhatsApp chat, Auriemma went on to question attacking Salvini’s migrant policies, saying that “everyone thinks like him” and that his move to stop mass migration was popular with the general public.
The chats are just a small sample of the leaked files, according to the newspaper, which added that the content of the messages left members of Salvini’s League speechless.
A group of League MPs petitioned President Sergio Mattarella to investigate the matter, saying: “What was reported by the newspaper is very serious and intolerable: the independence of politics with respect to the judiciary must be preserved.”
Salvini sent a letter to the Italian president on Thursday and published its contents on his Facebook page. He stated that he was concerned about judicial impartiality given he faces a potential trial over allegations of kidnapping migrants during his term as interior minister. The hearing is set for October.
“This affects the principle of separation of powers and gives me real concern about the lack of unbiased judgement that affects the outcome of the procedure against me,” he said.
A poll taken in February stated that a plurality of Italians were against Salvini being placed on trial for his actions as interior minister, while pollster Alessandra Ghisleri of Euromedia Research said a trial could help his poll numbers.”

“Three “youths” in the notorious radical Islamist hotbed municipality of Molenbeek in Brussels were arrested after spitting on police vehicle door handles in an effort to spread the Chinese coronavirus.
The three individuals arrested were members of the so-called “White Vests”. The group wear white vests while supposedly trying to raise awareness among the youths of Molenbeek about the dangers of coronavirus, advising people to abide by social distancing rules, wash their hands, and engage in other helpful actions such as redistributing food.
A police source told Flemish newspaper Het Nieuwsblad on Wednesday that the three arrested White Vests were spitting on the police vehicles hoping “that they themselves were infected with corona and that they, in turn, could make police officers sick”.
The incident is not the first to discredit the work of the White Vests group, as they are also under investigation for allegedly holding a party in contravention of the Belgian coronavirus lockdown measures currently in place.
Spitting attacks have been seen in multiple countries since the start of the coronavirus outbreak in Europe, leading to arrests and imprisonment in some cases.
In France, a woman was handed a prison term of seven months after she spat at police officers while calling them “dirty whites” and saying: “I hope you will all die of Covid.”
She also remarked “I have the coronavirus, you’re all going to die” as she was being detained.
A month later in the city of Montauban, a 39-year-old homeless migration-background man was sentenced to two years in prison after robbing other homeless people at knifepoint and later spitting on police while telling them he had tested positive for coronavirus.
Police in Vienna, Austria, were also attacked last month, with three spitting attacks taking place in a single day in the city. One of the attackers was later confirmed to be infected with coronavirus.”

The Tunisian coast guard rescued 11 migrants after an emergency call from a boat that was filling with water Saturday off the city of Sfax, said coast guard spokesman Lt. Houssameddine Jbabli.
Divers from the Tunisian emergency services retrieved one body and the captain and chief trafficker fled, he said. Six others who had been aboard the boat are missing, Sfax Gov. Anis Oueslati told the national news agency TAP.

The North African nation of Tunisia has thwarted 10 smuggling attempts to send migrants across the Mediterranean in the last two days, primarily to nearby Italy, the coast guard spokesman said. The attempts come as European countries start to relax strict lockdowns to prevents the spread of the coronavirus.
Tunisian authorities detained 223 people, including 94 migrants from sub-Saharan Africa, in those effort. Tunisia is both a transit country for migrants from elsewhere in Africa and a source of migrants trying to reach Europe to build a better life.”

HONG KONG (Reuters) – Hong Kong police fired tear gas and water cannon to disperse thousands of people who rallied on Sunday to protest against Beijing’s plan to impose national security laws on the city.
In a return of the unrest that roiled Hong Kong last year, crowds thronged the Causeway Bay shopping area in defiance of curbs imposed to contain the coronavirus. Chants of “Hong Kong independence, the only way out,” echoed through the streets.
To Communist Party leaders, calls for independence for the semi-autonmous city are anathema and the proposed new national security framework stresses Beijing’s intent “to prevent, stop and punish” such acts.
As dusk fell, police and demonstrators faced off in the nightlife district of Wan Chai.
The day’s events pose a new challenge to Beijing’s authority as it struggles to tame public opposition to its tightening grip over Hong Kong, a trade and business gateway for mainland China.
The security laws have also worried financial markets and drawn a rebuke from foreign governments, human rights groups and some business lobbies.

Afghanistan: Jalalabad”s Eid al-Fitr prayers packed with worshippers despite coronavirus concerns
Hundreds of worshippers gathered to observe prayers at the start of the Eid al-Fitr which marks the end of Ramadan on a field close to Jalalabad’s ring road in the Nangarhar province, on Sunday, despite government calls for lockdown.
Despite increasing numbers of people testing positive for the COVID-19 in the country, worshippers gathered to pray and even greeted one another in celebration.

France: Police uses tear gas to clear unaouthorised demo in Saint Nazaire
Police used tear gas to disperse around 300 anti-government protesters in the French city of Saint Nazare on Saturday, amid a demonstration against the government’s response to the coronavirus crisis.
Protesters defied the prefecture’s ban on demonstrations to rally against the French government’s coronavirus restrictions. After giving order to disperse, police utilised tear gas to clear a group of protesters at the town’s Blue Ribbon shopping centre.
When announcing France’s nation-wide lockdown in March, President Emmanuel Macron said the decisions were taken “on the basis of scientific recommendations with only one objective: to protect us in the face of the virus’ spread.”
“Epidemic Prevention” Chinese Communist Party Style: Persecute Religious Minorities

Since early 2020, China has been doubling down on its already extreme suppression of religious freedom, and the Covid-19 outbreak has done nothing to curb the Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) enthusiasm. If anything, the virus outbreak has served as an excuse to crack down even more on freedom of religion.
In February, for instance, officials came to inspect whether a church in Henan province was implementing lockdown instructions, but, according to one church member interviewed by Bitter Winter, “seeing some bible verses written on a blackboard they said, ‘China is the land of the Communist Party, and we are not allowed to hold religious beliefs'”. The officials then “smashed everything in the venue and left, locking the door…”
The CCP also continued its crackdown on The Church of Almighty God (CAG), a group China banned and that it considers a “dangerous cult”. Between February and March, authorities arrested at least 325 members of the group “as a result of investigations in the name of epidemic prevention”. One member of the group, who had been released, said that the police had “threatened to send her to the coronavirus epicenter in Hubei Province to be infected if she continued practicing her faith”. Is a military clash between the United States and Iran inevitable? Since January, when the Americans assassinated Tehran’s top general, Qassem Soleimani, policy circles in major capitals have grappled with the question without reaching a consensus.
At the time of this writing, the question is bouncing back as Iranian tankers carrying oil to Venezuela risk running into an American cordon designed to keep them away.
The mullahs have threatened “dire consequences” if the US does try to stop the tankers. Iranian police face social media backlash over arrest of parkour athlete after rooftop kiss
Iran police faced backlash after it arrested two parkour athletes — Alireza Japalaghy and a woman whose name — after their romantic photos of a rooftop kiss and hugs went viral on social media last week.
The parkour athlete has been arrested for committing “vulgar” acts, police said, after he posted photos online of himself kissing a woman on Tehran’s rooftops.
“This individual has been arrested by Tehran’s cyber police,” the capital’s police chief Hossein Rahimi was quoted as saying by semi-official news agency ISNA.
“We are against this individual and his companion’s norm-breaking and vulgar behaviour and the police and the judiciary will certainly deal with them,” he added, without naming the person who was arrested.

The group donated the Rafnar 1100 Cabin Bulletproof speedboats this week as Greece continues to see migrants arrive on the various islands located near Turkey. The ships themselves will be designed in Iceland and built in Greece and boast engines capable of 450 horsepower each and will carry a 12.7mm machine-gun.
The donation of the boats was welcomed by Greece’s Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, who said, “I would like to thank the Hellenic Shipowners’ Association for their prompt response to our request to strengthen the Coast Guard.”
“The donation of 10 new fully equipped boats will essentially help to more effectively control our maritime borders. At a time when I don’t need to tell you, it’s extremely critical.

“An Afghan woman was detained by Turkish authorities after attempting to enter Sweden using the passport of a well-known pro-migration activist. She claimed her passport was stolen during a trip to Iran.
The incident took place in January of this year but details had not been made public until this week. They show that Turkish authorities detained an Afghan woman who was in possession of both the passport and Swedish residency documents of well-known pro-migration activist Fatemeh Khavari.
According to an investigation by the Swedish online journal Kvartal, the woman was stopped by Turkish officials while attempting to board a flight from Istanbul to Barcelona.
Fatemeh Khavari, an Afghan national who has led protests in Sweden to stop the deportation of Afghan migrants, told the journal that her Afghan passport had been stolen along with her handbag on a trip to Iran from December of last year to January.
She said she contacted Swedish police after the alleged robbery and the Swedes, in turn, contacted Iranian authorities who returned her documents to her in eight or nine days, claiming they had been sold to the woman in Istanbul by a human-trafficker.
Khavari said she was surprised that the Turkish authorities knew to send the Afghan passport and residency documents to Iran. “I actually don’t know how it works. I have no idea. When the Iranian police told me that they had my ID documents, I was very, very surprised myself,” she said.
According to the activist, Iranian police did not give her any documentation in connection with the incident, but she claimed to have emailed the Swedish embassy in Tehran.
When asked for copies of the emails, she refused to produce them.
A police source spoke to Kvartal and proposed that it was unlikely Turkish authorities could have known to send the documents to Iran and certainly not in eight or nine days.
Instead, the source proposed the pro-migration activist may have sold or loaned her documents to the woman and the Turkish officials did not seize the documents at all, noting the passport and residency card had not been blocked.
The claims come after former Social Democrat politician Rashad Alasaad, a migrant from Syria, was arrested in January for helping to smuggle migrants into Sweden. Alasaad is said to have charged 3,000 euros for adults and 2,000 euros for children to get them passport documents to enter the country.”

“The leader of Kent County Council, Roger Gough, said that the number of migrants claiming to be unaccompanied minors crossing the English Channel has reached “unsustainable” levels, adding that the county is being “overwhelmed” as illegal boat migration soars.
Councillor Gough said that the number of migrants landing in Kent were quickly heading to levels not seen since the 2015 migrant crisis, claiming that 180 alleged minors have been brought ashore at Kent since the beginning of the year — twice as much as were reported during the same time period last year.
“There is criminal activity clearly behind that. The problem emerging now at this end is that… we are a large local authority with a lot of experience in this area, but our capacity is being overwhelmed,” Gough said in comments reported by the Evening Standard.
“At the moment clearly not enough is happening to stop those journeys and more needs to be done because what we are seeing is arrivals on a scale which we in Kent certainly cannot cope with,” Gough said.
“Once the children arrive in Dover we need to have a clear response and that’s not happening,” he said going after the lack of action by the government.
Gough also noted that more young migrants are attempting to make the dangerous journey across the Channel as opposed to stowing away in lorries.
At the migrant camps in Calais, people-smugglers have reportedly lowered the fees they charge migrants to cross the Channel during the coronavirus crisis — down to £1,500 per person, compared to £3,000 last year.
The price cut has resulted in more migrants from poorer countries attempting to make the journey, particularly from African countries as opposed to the typical Iranian and Iraqi migrants. It has also resulted in more minors making the dangerous journey, with some fearing there could be an increased number being sold into sexual slavery.
“It’s a route that costs a lot of money. Somebody has paid for these children to be put at risk. It’s important to identify the individuals… and to ensure that [minors] are not being trafficked into a worse situation,” said Lucy Moreton of the Immigration Services Union.
Since the United Kingdom introduced the coronavirus national lockdown in March, over 1,000 migrants have successfully reached British shores. Reports have suggested that people-smugglers are taking advantage of the recent warm weather and decreased numbers of shipping vessels in the Channel to send increased waves of migrants from France.
The number of genuine child migrants remains to be seen, however, as migrants have attempted to claim minor status in order to receive preferential treatment on arrival in the past.
In 2018, for example, the Home Office revealed that between 2010 and 2016 some 2,644 adults had lied about their age in order to improve their odds of being granted asylum — but just one-fifth of those caught lying about their age were deported from the country during the same time period.
In a stunning example of this, an apparently 38-year-old man claiming to a child refugee from the Calais jungle migrant camp was outed as an adult. Left-wing activists initially claimed, falsely, that he was a language interpreter when his picture emerged.
Another notable example of migrants attempting to deceive British immigration officials was the case of Haris Stanikzai, a migrant from Afghanistan, who claimed to be just 16-years-old.
It was later revealed that on a dating website Stanikzai listed his age as 22 and posted pictures of himself with a full beard.”

“A round of audits by Greece’s National Transparency Authority of pro-migration NGOs has revealed massive growth in recent years, with some receiving tens of millions of euros in revenue.
The authority claims around 320 non-governmental organisations relating to immigration operate in the country. It has been investigating the funding and operations of the various pro-migration groups and is set to look in detail at around 15 to 20 per cent of them in the first major audit of its kind.
According to a report from Greek newspaper Proto Thema, the early findings have revealed massive growth for some of the NGOs, including one that went from having 50 employees in 2013 to 1,050 in 2019. Another group reported no income five years ago and a whopping 23 million euros of income in 2019.
“After a complaint and evaluation of data on the operation and financial management of private entities operating in the field of immigration policy, audits were carried out in five Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs),” the National Transparency Authority said.
Investigators are also looking at whether the services offered by the NGOs are proportional to the amount of money they receive.
Ten NGOs will be examined in the coming days that are much smaller than the ones already examined by investigators but have garnered particular interest for their activities.
The authority states that its goal is to have a total understanding of the operations of pro-migration NGOs operating in Greece by September of this year.
Many pro-migration NGOs have operated in Greece since the height of the migrant crisis in 2015-16 and some have been implicated in illegal activity, such as Emergency Response Centre International (ERCI).
Members of ERCI were arrested in August of 2018 after it was alleged the group were helping illegal migrants get into the country, with Greek police labelling the group a “criminal network.”
In March of this year, several NGOs halted their pro-migration activity on the island of Lesbos after angry locals attacked them. Douglas Herman, the co-founder of the NGO Refocus, labelled the locals “fascist gangs.””

Nearly a hundred of Alternative for Germany (AfD) supporters protested lockdown restrictions in Stuttgart on Sunday with the head of local AfD branch Alice Weidel saying “the government should explain itself” for restricting German rights.
AfD supporters can be seen gathered at Schillerplatz with placards and banners while maintaining social distancing rules.
During a speech, Weidel said, “Our freedoms and rights which are guaranteed by the constitution have never been limited so massively and so for long during its whole 71-year-old existence.”

The head of a Wuhan laboratory – whose scientists who drew international rebuke for modifying bat coronavirus to infect humans – says the notion that a human-infecting bat coronavirus with a pangolin CoV binding mechanism escaped from said lab is “pure fabrication.”
In a Saturday interview with CCP state media, Wang Yanyi, director of the Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV), said that the institute first received a clinical sample of SARS-CoV-2 on December 30, and claims “We didn’t have any knowledge before that, nor had we ever encountered, researched or kept the virus. In fact, like everyone else, we didn’t even know the virus existed.”
“How could it have leaked from our lab when we never had it?” she added.
Curiously, nobody from the state-owned China Global Television Network asked Wang if the WIV was ordered to destroy virus samples, as other laboratories in Wuhan were instructed to do in the early, critical stages of the outbreak.
Wang also claims that the institute ‘did not isolate or obtain the live virus of the RaTG-13 bat coronavirus which the Wall Street Journal claims WIV scientists collected in a cave 1,000 miles away in Yunnan, China in 2013, according to SCMP.
Of note, RaTG-13 shares 96.2% of its genome with SARS-CoV-2, while its method of binding to cells is nearly identical to a pangolin coronavirus.
The core residues in RBM which may related to higher human ACE2-binding affinity than SARS-CoV are 100% identical between SARS-CoV-2 and CoV-Pangolin-2020. Therefore, pangolin-CoV-2020 (CoV-pangolin/GD) potentially recognizes human ACE2 better than the SARS-CoV. -PLOS
The institute has been blamed by President Donald Trump and US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo as the origin of the coronavirus pandemic which has officially killed over 340,000 people worldwide since December.
As we noted in February, Beijing has had four known accidental leaks of the SARS virus in recent years, so there is absolutely no reason to assume that this strain of coronavirus from Wuhan didn’t accidentally leak as well.
Given that this outbreak was said to begin in late December when most bat species in the region are hibernating and the Chinese horseshoe bat’s habitat covers an enormous swath of the region containing scores of cities and hundreds of millions people to begin with, the fact that this Wuhan Strain of coronavirus, denoted as Covid-19, emerged in close proximity to the only BSL-4 virology lab in China, now notoriously located in Wuhan, which in turn was staffed with at least two Chinese scientists – Zhengli Shi and Xing-Yi Ge (both virologists who had previously worked at an American lab which already bio-engineered an incredibly virulent strain of bat coronavirus) – the accidental escape of a virus meant for defensive immunotherapy research from Wuhan’s virology lab cannot be automatically discounted, especially when the Wuhan Strain’s unnatural genomic signals are considered.
Zhengli Shi notably co-authored a controversial paper in 2015 which describes the creation of a new virus by combining a coronavirus found in Chinese horseshoe bats with another that causes human-like severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) in mice.
This research sparked a huge debate at the time over whether engineering lab variants of viruses with possible pandemic potential is worth the risks.
As Nature.com reported in 2015, the findings reinforce suspicions that bat coronaviruses capable of directly infecting humans (rather than first needing to evolve in an intermediate animal host) may be more common than previously thought, the researchers say.
Of course, any notion that a similar virus could have escaped in the same town as the laboratory making chimeric, human-infecting coronvirus strains is “pure fabrication” according to the lab’s director – who may have a wall in China to sell you as well.
