2. Slovenia calls an official end to its coronavirus epidemic

The Slovenian government late on Thursday (14 May) called an official end to its coronavirus epidemic, becoming the first European country to do so, after authorities confirmed less than seven new coronavirus cases each day for the past two weeks.

People now arriving in Slovenia from other European Union states will no longer be obliged to go into a quarantine for at least seven days as was the case from early April, the government said in a statement.

The country of 2 million people, which borders Italy, Austria, Hungary and Croatia, has so far reported 1,464 coronavirus cases and 103 deaths. It declared an epidemic on March 12.

“Slovenia has tamed the epidemic over the past two months… Today Slovenia has the best epidemiologic picture in Europe,” Prime Minister Janez Jansa told parliament earlier on Thursday.

The end of epidemic means some measures, including financial aid to citizens and firms hit by the coronavirus, will expire at the end of May.

The government said foreign citizens who show signs of coronavirus infection will still not be allowed to enter the country.

4. Neurosurgeon Says Face Masks Pose Serious Risk to Healthy People

(At the risk of adding to any fire hosing efforts, this seems worth considering as masks are now mandatory for basic things like buying food or going to funerals. And frankly, they always make me feel ill afterwards. Probably the increased CO2)

[…]

Now that we have established that there is no scientific evidence necessitating the wearing of a face mask for prevention, are there dangers to wearing a face mask, especially for long periods? Several studies have indeed found significant problems with wearing such a mask. This can vary from headaches, to increased airway resistance, carbon dioxide accumulation, to hypoxia, all the way to serious life-threatening complications.

There are studies to back that claim up.

In one such study, researchers surveyed 212 healthcare workers (47 males and 165 females) asking about presence of headaches with N95 mask use, duration of the headaches, type of headaches and if the person had preexisting headaches.

They found that about a third of the workers developed headaches with use of the mask, most had preexisting headaches that were worsened by the mask wearing, and 60% required pain medications for relief. As to the cause of the headaches, while straps and pressure from the mask could be causative, the bulk of the evidence points toward hypoxia and/or hypercapnia as the cause.

5. France gives online firms one hour to pull ‘terrorist’ content

Social media and other websites will have just one hour to delete offending content under a new law passed by France’s parliament.

The one-hour deadline applies to content that French authorities consider to be related to terrorism or child sexual abuse.

Failing to act could result in fines of up to 4% of global revenue – billions of euros for the largest online firms.

But critics say the new law could restrict freedom of expression.

The new rules apply to all websites, whether large or small. But there are concerns that only internet giants such as Facebook and Google actually have the resources to remove content as quickly as required.

Digital rights group La Quadrature du Net said the requirement to take down content that the police considered “terrorism” in just one hour was impractical.

“Except the big companies, nobody can afford to have a 24/7 watch to remove the content when requested,” a spokesman for the group said. “Hence, they will have to rely on censorship before receiving a request from the police.”

(As any reader of this site would have already known, the definition of what constitutes “terrorism” is up to the French government at any given time and is more likely to be applied to conservatives who are against the totalitarian power grabs of the French state than actual Islamic or ANTIFA terrorist literature or incitement.)

6. May 14: Former Cleveland Clinic doctor accused of sharing research funded by US with Chinese government

CLEVELAND (WJW) — A former Cleveland Clinic research doctor and Case Western Reserve University professor is accused of receiving federal grant money for research in the United States and not disclosing similar funding he received for research in the People’s Republic of China.

He is also accused of sharing research he did in the U.S. with the Chinese government.

Dr. Qing Wang, was arrested Wednesday afternoon at his home in Shaker Heights. He is being charged with false claims and wire fraud related to more than $3.6 million in grant funding that he and his research group at the Cleveland Clinic received from the National Institutes of Health.

According to a federal complaint, Dr. Wang “knowingly failed to disclose to NIH that he held an affiliation and the position of Dean of the College of Life Sciences and Technology at the Huazhong University of Sciences and Technology” in China. It alleges that he received $3 million in grants from the Chinese government for some of the same scientific research that was funded by the NIH grant, but never disclosed that information.

“Why should another country and another group of citizens benefit from information that we funded here in the United States?” said Jeffrey Fortunato, an assistant special-agent-in-charge with the Cleveland Division of the FBI.

7. Two items from a peculiar, yet legit news source on Trudeau. This source has broken news before on the Trudeaus that Canadian propaganda sites like the CBC would not touch despite knowing it, like Trudeau’s black-face nonsense.

Sophie Trudeau’s cousin alleges a wide-ranging Liberal Party cover-up to protect pedophile officials

(Everyone kinda knew that the Trudeaus had broken up. But shame on Canadian media for not reporting it. Before they take the phoney high road and claim it was integrity that stopped them, imagine what they would have done had it been Stephen Harper and his wife.)

8. Migrants Arriving To Greece From Turkey Test Positive for Coronavirus

Two migrants who arrived on the Greek island of Lesbos last week after departing Turkey have tested positive for the Wuhan coronavirus, a development that follows claims the Turks may be purposely sending infected migrants.

The two migrants arrived from Turkey on the island is Lesbos in the Aegean Sea on the 6th of May and were identified as being infected with the coronavirus as part of a random check with the two migrants not being sent to the Moria migrant camp but quarantined in a special area on the island. […]

The confirmation of migrants leaving Turkey for Greece while infected with the coronavirus comes after speculation by some in the Greek media that Turkey may be sending migrants infected with coronavirus to Greece on purpose as the infection spreads in migrant camps within Turkey.

10. ‘It is NOT peaceful protest’ Anyone burning EU flag faces PRISON in Germany – new law

PROTESTORS who set fire to the European Union flag in Germany will face a prison sentence or fine after the Bundestag expanded existing laws.

German MPs voted for a bill by the Federal Council introducing an additional passage into the criminal code which means defaming the EU flag and anthem will be punishable. Until now, fines or imprisonment could only be imposed if state symbols of the Federal Republic of Germany were disfigured or abused.

Violations of the new regulation can – in line with the existing prohibitions – be punished with a custodial sentence of up to three years or a fine.

The regulation also includes destroying, damaging or defacing the EU flag and attempts to do so.

(Funny ow the left insisted burning the US flag was constitutionally protected free speech. But burning or “attempting to damage” a socialist symbol like the EU flag…)

The well-known US billionaire and self-proclaimed “philanthropist” George Soros takes offence at the latest ruling of the German Federal Constitutional Court on the issue of ECB bonds. He is particularly offended by the fact that the Federal Constitutional Court in Karlsruhe was the first national court to ignore a ruling by the ECJ.
