Daily Links Post graphic

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

  1. Democrat Oregon Governor Allots All of the Govt. Stimulus Funds of $1.6 Billion to Portland Area — Ignores Rural Counties

Several states reopened at least partially on Friday May 1st after the six-week-long Fauci lockdown

But Democrat-led Oregon is not one of them.
Oregon, a state with 4.14 million residents did not reopen on Friday.
In fact, the liberal state is not reopening anytime soon.

Oregon Governor Kate Brown is only distributing the $1.6 billion in US government stimulus funds on Multnomah County, Washington County and the city of Portland.

The rest of the rural counties are out of luck.

  5. Scientists find new mutation of coronavirus that mirrors a change in the 2003 SARS virus that showed the disease was weakening

Scientists at Arizona State University sequenced the viral genome of coronavirus from 382 patients in the state
In one of the samples, they found a significant mutation in the relatively stable virus
The genome of a viral sample taken from one patient was missing 81 out of 30,000 genetic ‘letters’
It was the same mutation seen in the SARS virus in 2003 that marked the virus’s changes toward the end of the five-month epidemic
These deletions also weaken the ability of the virus to fight the host’s immune system
It’s the first example of this mutation, but the researchers say that as sequencing expands, similar deletions could be detected elsewhere

  6. And now a word from our Canadian

As you may have heard, Prime Dictator Justin Trudeau just banned an enormous list of guns here in Canada. Toronto, and points east, elected the Liberals to a Minority government in 2019, and the former Chief of Police for Toronto was right there, banging the gun control drum.

Toronto has a guns and gangs problem. Not compared to, say, Chicago, Los Angeles, St. Louis, or any of those other notorious spots with inner city violence. Toronto is a city of 3 Million people, and in the last fifteen years, 2005 and 2018 were the only two years where they had more than 50 people killed by gunfire.

[Editor’s Note: For reference, Chicago beat that in April… just April]

Well! (Hear that in an ‘aghast, offended Oxford British’ accent for maximum effect) That simply won’t do.

Toronto’s stats are strange. For the ten years Bill Blair was their Chief, Toronto saw between 250 and 350 shootings, between 20 and 52 people killed. In the years since Blair retired, shootings went from 242 to 429 to 581 to 594 to 604. So yes, they are worse since he retired than they’ve ever been.

    https://aawsat.com/english/home/article/2270241/turkey-admits-its-support-sarraj-stopped-libyan-army%E2%80%99s-advance

“Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced that the Libyan National Army (LNA) is losing ground thanks to his country’s support to the Government of National Accord (GNA).

“Hopefully, we will soon receive more good news from Libya,” said Erdogan.

He said Turkey is determined to continue supporting the GNA led by Fayez al-Sarraj to transform the area into an “oasis of peace.”

In remarks following a cabinet meeting, Erdogan said that LNA leader Khalifa Haftar is facing opposition from the people, even in the areas he controls.

He indicated that the unlimited financial support and weapons provided by some countries to Haftar will not be enough to save him.

“The safety of Libya and the peace and well-being of the Libyan people are the key to the stability of all of North Africa and the Mediterranean.”

Last week, Erdogan and Sarraj discussed over the phone the situation in Libya, and issues of mutual interest and ways to enhance bilateral relations.

Meanwhile, the Turkish presidency said Haftar is losing power, calling on all countries supporting him to “rethink their positions.”

Turkey’s communications director, Fahrettin Altun, asserted that due to Ankara’s support for the GNA, the “destabilizing and illegitimate” Haftar forces are losing ground in Libya.

“All those powers supporting Haftar must rethink their position and invest in the legitimate government for peace and stability,” Altun said on Twitter.

Last month, GNA forces and allied militias controlled a number of cities on the northwestern coast of Libya, with the support of Turkey, which interfered through its airforce.

Turkey also transported weapons, air defense units, and thousands of militants from the Syrian factions.

Turkey is paying them salaries as mercenaries to fight alongside Sarraj’s militias in an attempt to hinder LNA’s progress towards Tripoli.

An official from the LNA’s General Command said that Turkey had recently provided GNA militias with new weapons, which arrived at the ports of Misrata and Tripoli through cargo ships.

He stressed that the arms were used on the battlefronts in Tripoli, even in residential areas and vital centers. He also noted that sophisticated air defense systems were installed, as well as newly manufactured surface-to-surface missiles, jamming devices, and Turkish-made heavy-caliber mortars.

The military official stressed that Turkey continues to financially and politically support the GNA militias, despite international calls to end the fighting and enter a humanitarian truce during the month of Ramadan, which was approved by the LNA.”

  9. Davutoglu Accuses Erdogan of Weakening Turkey
    https://aawsat.com/english/home/article/2270111/davutoglu-accuses-erdogan-weakening-turkey

“The head of Turkey’s opposition Future Party has accused President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) of weakening Turkey.

Former Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said Erdogan is spreading fear among people and transforming the ruling authority into an “advertising company.”

He denounced rumors spread by the regime and its mass media industry, speculating a new coup attempt in Turkey.

“The ruling authority is beginning to fear people,” Davutoglu stressed.

“Democracy in Turkey is under the risk of two threats: A putschist mentality which disregards the national will and an authoritarian mentality that justifies its authoritarian acts by keeping this threat on the agenda.”

In an interview on Tuesday, Davutoglu said some of the regime supporters outbid the number of weapons they will hold, the bullets they will fire and the blood they will shed in case a coup was carried out, explaining how they will take revenge.

“Those who failed to manage the crises which have hit Turkey since the end of February and don’t know how to control the damages and the heavy bill during the coming months, are resorting to some methods in order to manipulate the political agenda,” he explained.

“If Turkey is a country in which coup attempts can still be carried out, these coups cannot be prevented by posting tweets, but by the president immediately going to the capital of the country, which he has been away for the last 45 days due to the coronavirus outbreak.”

Fierce debates and discussions about the presidential system have been sparked in Turkey, and opposition leaders have been issuing statements on Erdogan’s failure to manage the coronavirus pandemic crisis and limit its economic and social repercussions.

Pro-government media outlets, columnists and some senior AKP officials have recently accused the main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) of “calling for a coup” over their remarks criticizing the AKP and indicating that they see a change in the ruling power soon.

“The end of the regime of the [presidential] palace, the order of the palace is about to come. That fall will bring an end to these assignments that Ataturk [the founder of modern Turkish Republic] would regret,” CHP lawmaker Ozgur Ozel said late April.”

  11. Tensions erupt in Canadian city over broadcast of Muslim call to prayer
    https://www.middleeasteye.net/news/canada-muslim-call-prayer-ramadan-once-daily-tensions-far-right

“A decision to allow mosques in one Canadian city to broadcast the Adhan, the Muslim call to prayer once a day, has resulted in threats against the faith group, with the far-right demanding the decision be reversed.

The City of Mississauga passed a motion last Wednesday to temporarily exempt mosques from a noise bylaw so they can broadcast the Adhan once a day until the end of the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan, which should finish by 23 May.

The condition was that the Adhan did not call on people to congregate in mosques, as places of worship are shut as a part of measures to contain the spread of the coronavirus.

In an attempt to inflame tensions, Faith Goldy, a white nationalist who was barred from Facebook last year, tweeted that the Adhan was a sign of the demographic threat Islam and Muslims pose to Canada.

The motion also prompted a man to trespass and stalk a mosque in Edmonton, and threaten to take part in a Ramadan Bombathan.

Since then, a letter has been placed on three different online petitions calling for the decision to be reversed, arguing that it was a “violation of human rights”.

Another open letter was posted on Facebook by Hani Tawfillis, a pharmacist who ran unsuccessfully as a Conservative Party candidate in the last federal election, saying that Canadian soldiers who fought in the Middle East would be hurt by hearing the call to prayer, equating it with slogans used by the Islamic State group.

“Had we thought about our beloved Canadian veterans who fought in Islamic countries as Afghanistan or Iraq, after hearing some words used by ISIS, which is part of the Adhan that remind them by announcement in these war zones for a call of an attack to be imminent,” he said, stressing that he was not an Islamophobe.

The petitions, placed on both Change.org and the ultraconservative CitizenGo website, have since been removed. Vice News was the first to report about the campaigns.

Change.org told Vice that the campaign was removed because it was “violating hate speech community guidelines”. Before being removed the online petition obtained some 20,000 signatures.

On Wednesday, during a city council meeting, a motion was put forth to reverse the decision, according to local media reports.

The group Canadians United Against Hate called on council members to uphold the orignal decision and warned against “giving in to hate”.

In a letter to the councillors, the group’s founder Fareed Khan said the Adhan is an example of “multiculturalism, pluralism and acceptance of diversity in practice. It demonstrates the best of what Canada is about.”

“To cave in to pressure from these hateful elements in society is to take a step back and say to all minority communities that hate is stronger than love and acceptance.””

    • This is Justine Trudeau’s work. —hate speech is saying anything truthful about Islam and then there is the case of Pamir Hakimzadah who tried to join Isis in Syria in 2004 was caught, tried again in 2016 and was caught again. “Police in Iraq arrested two teenage boys last night for allegedly sexually assaulting and killing a seven-year-old boy in Mosul, authorities stated.

According to officials, a young boy was found dead in a toilet corridor at a mosque in the Zummar district of Nineveh province on Saturday where the horrific crime is believed to have been taken place.

The local administrator said police found the body of Shahin Wisam who had gone missing at 11:00pm on Friday, BasNews reported.

The teens admitted luring the children to a mosque toilet where they raped him and then killed him with a rock. Police identified the perpetrators as Ahmed Nassir Al-Jubouri and Omar Shakir Al-Mamari.

Many social media users took to Twitter to express their anger.

  16. The Chinese Regime Has Been at War With the US. Time to Take Action

In some ways war with the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) started when an Australian aircraft carrier was sold for scrap in 1985. The obscure story of the HMAS Melbourne is fascinating tale of glory in service and intrigue after being paid off.

The HMAS Melbourne was the pride of the Royal Australian Navy and also unfortunately has the ignominious distinction of having sunk two allied ships—but that’s another story. Enter Mr. Xu Zengping, an interesting personality of the CCP apparatus.

He secured the vessel for “scrap” but for years, observers noted it tied up pier side with technicians crawling all over its catapult and arresting gear. The heart and soul of a carrier are the catapults and arresting gear. The chief engineer is constantly on the horn with the skipper on the maintenance status of this complex machinery.

  17. Tunisia arrests young woman who made up fake Quran verses about coronavirus
    https://english.alaraby.co.uk/english/news/2020/5/6/tunisia-arrests-young-woman-for-fake-coronavirus-quran-verses

“Tunisian authorities have arrested a young woman for publishing fake verses of the Quran about the novel coronavirus.

Amna Al-Sharqi will be investigated by the Tunisian public prosecution, El Bashayer reported, for posting a text on her Facebook page entitled “Surah Corona”.

Al-Sharqi sparked outrage on social media for the fake verses, and even received death threats.

Tunisian public opinion was reportedly divided, with a majority demanding Al-Sharqi be tried for the “desecrecation of the Quran”, according to El Bashayer.

A minority of Tunisians voiced the opinion that her act falls under freedom of expression.

Al-Sharqi confirmed that she had received death threats for writing the text.

She said on Facebook that what she had published was not a distortion of the Quran, stressing that it did not include the word “God” or “religion”.

The Quran is considered by Muslims to be the word of God and any revision or addition to the text is considered sacrilegious by most followers.
Tunisian officials announced a partial easing of lockdown measures enacted to curb the spread of novel coronavirus last week, although schools will remain closed until September.

Tunisia has officially declared 1,022 cases of Covid-19 including 43 deaths, and has put strict social distancing measures in place, including a night-time curfew.

Tunisia’s Prime Minister Elyes Fakhfakh had said earlier this month that lockdown measures would be progressively eased after 3 May.”

  18. German FM asks Turkey to keep its coronavirus mask donation ‘a secret’
    https://english.alaraby.co.uk/english/news/2020/5/6/germany-asks-turkey-to-keep-coronavirus-donation-a-secret

“Germany’s Foreign Minister Heiko Mass reportedly asked Turkey to keep its delivery of coronavirus medical aid to the country a secret, the Daily Sabah reported.

Mass asked Ankara to conceal the donation of 2 million masks to help the North Rhine-Westphalia in its fight against Covid-19, German media reported earlier this week.

A spokesperson from the North Rhine-Westphalia region confirmed Turkey’s delivery of the masks, German state TV Tagesschau reported.

German media later revealed that Foreign Minister Mass had asked Turkey to conceal the donation.

A source close to the Turkish government confirmed the German request, saying it was due to Turkey being a “red flag” for some sectors of the German population.

Meanwhile, Turkey on Saturday lifted restrictions on the export of medical supplies, a move that should facilitate the sale of equipment to western countries where there have been shortages.

The commerce ministry lifted the restrictions on the sale abroad of respirators, intubators and disinfectants such as ethanol, according to a decree published in the official journal.

Previously the sale of such supplies was either prohibited or subject to a requirement to obtain authorisation from the Turkish government, with permission given sparingly.

“These restrictions were put in place temporarily in response to the pandemic. The decision to allow exports reflects… Turkey’s growing capacity to contain the coronavirus,” a presidential official told foreign media.

The lifting of the restrictions represents an opportunity for Turkish companies which have considerably increased their production capacities since the start of the pandemic, at a time when many countries are still struggling to obtain adequate supplies of medical equipment.

Unlike other countries, Turkey has no shortage of respirators or masks.

Ankara, which has been playing the diplomatic card on medical aid since the start of the crisis, sent a military plane full of equipment to Somalia on Saturday, the Defence ministry said…”

  19. Between Two Worlds: A Moroccan Engineer’s Life in Germany
    https://www.moroccoworldnews.com/2020/05/301731/between-two-worlds-a-moroccan-engineers-life-in-germany/

““For the young Moroccan generation in Europe, I want to tell them it is possible to be both a European citizen and a Moroccan citizen.”

Mouhssin Saidi’s parents never imagined their son would travel the world as an engineer working for Germany at the United Nations. At the same time, the cultural lessons and language skills they passed down to him have, in many ways, shaped the trajectory of his career, as well as his experience as a father.

“I was born in Germany but my parents both came from Tangier before I was born. They said it was very important that their children don’t forget their roots. It started with language.

In our household, my mother spoke with us in Arabic and my father talked to us in German; so we could be fluent in both languages. This was very important for our schooling and careers.”

Saidi is a senior auditor at the German Supreme Audit Institution (SAI). In the institution’s 300 years of operating, he was the first, and so far the only, Moroccan or Muslim to join their team after he began his career at SAI 20 years ago.

“People are often surprised when the German team shows up with a Moroccan. The work requires a very high level of German proficiency,” says Saidi.

Saidi explained to Morocco World News that his role within the auditing institution is critical for Germany’s partnerships with Arab and Muslim countries.

Although Germany hosts a large number of immigrants from Morocco and approximately 5.7% of German population is Muslim, the relationship between migrants and Germans has, at times, been tense, as cultural values are often misunderstood.

Despite this, Saidi has found ways to let his background and religion shine, sharing his cultural competencies through his work.

“I have the experience, with my language skills and culture, to know how to work in these countries. It opens a lot of doors.” Saidi is often assigned as a team leader for projects in Ramallah, Beirut, or Doha. “I know how to greet people there and how to be polite.”

Beginning as ‘guest worker’ migrants, Saidi’s family made sure to return to Morocco each year

Saidi worked his way up from a small engineering office to esteemed positions within the German government and also with the UN.

He has worked as a senior auditor for various UN branches including the budget for the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), the UN Industrial Development Organization, and the UN Peacekeeping Missions worldwide.

Auditors like Saidi review organizations’ accounts to ensure the legality and validity of their financial records. Their role may also include acting as an advisor to ensure risk aversion and cost-saving methods.

His work with OHCHR took him around the world to cities including Geneva, Jerusalem, Ramallah, Kiev, Guatemala City, Santiago de Chile, New York, Beirut, and Doha, reporting on financial, compliance, and performance issues. His family is very proud of the work he does and the opportunities he has to travel.

“My mother says she is very proud to see me traveling to places she has only ever seen on TV,” says Saidi.

Saidi’s parents, both from Tangier, migrated to Germany in 1963 as “guest workers.” Guest workers, or “Gastarbeiter” in German, refers to migrants who moved to Germany between 1955 and 1973 under the national guest worker program.

The agreement allowed immigrant workers to support industrial sector jobs following labor shortages resulting from World War II. Germany signed its agreement with Morocco in 1963.

In Germany, Saidi’s father worked as a crane operator and his mother as a housekeeper. Their yearly sojourns to Morocco include five-day road trips from Germany to Tangier.

Although his parents could not afford to travel beyond the family home in Morocco, the six-week holiday was part of Saidi’s parents’ effort to teach their children about their Moroccan heritage, something Saidi is now passing down to his own children.

Passing on lessons learned from his parents

At 53 years old, Saidi is married and has two daughters, ages 16 and 17.

“For our children, we started very early teaching them Arabic and German. We also started to bring the girls to English school. For me as a father, it is important that my girls have a good education and they can live in different worlds. I want them to understand how different cultures work.

Now we usually go to Morocco for a few weeks every year. We try to spend one week with family and then spend another couple of weeks exploring the country so my children can know about it. They love spending their holidays in Morocco with all their cousins.”

Saidi says that the most important lessons for him to teach his children from his Moroccan roots are religion and respect for other people, especially elders. “The kindness of people in Morocco –the way people live together–my daughters should know this. It is important.”

Although Saidi said he is happy living in Berlin and probably will not move to Morocco, he is determined to continue sharing his multi-cultural experience through his work and is inspiring others to immerse themselves in similar cross-cultural ways.

“For the young Moroccan generation in Europe, I want to tell them it is possible to be both a European citizen and a Moroccan citizen. This is very positive because when you grow up in two worlds–for example, the Arab and German world–you know and you can read different mentalities.

You can understand how people work and deal with each other. They are different worlds and when you have language skills and mentality to deal with this, many doors open.””

Ravi Hooda made the comment in reply to Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown, who announced a by-law would allow mosques to play daily calls to prayer over loudspeakers during Ramadan.

Brown said the change was made to promote a sense of community for Muslims, who would generally gather for prayer during the fasting month of Ramadan but can’t because of COVID-19.

“What’s next?” said Hooda in a tweet that has since been removed.
