Worse, as Bloomberg’s Faye Flam writes, the trial was rushed to get quick FDA approval, without getting helpful information on what kinds of patients it helps or hurts the most; and now that the study is over, we’ve forever lost a chance to help doctors treat virus patients better.

Italy – one of the hardest-hit countries from the coronavirus pandemic – will start to ease its two-month strict lockdown from Monday. However, tensions across the country are still intensifying with many residents in fear that the virus chaos may still spark mass starvation. Meanwhile, police officers have been forced to guard supermarkets in Palermo, the capital city of Sicily, after a private Facebook group currently under investigation urged people to organise large raids on grocery stores and markets.
On Friday, Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte took to Facebook to publicly apologize to Italians for delays in distributing emergency coronavirus financial aid.
Mr Conte said he was open to a further easing of lockdown measures, once construction and manufacturing activities resume next week.
Retailers and museums are currently set to reopen on May 18 and bars and restaurants later in June.
The Italian Government is desperately trying to limit the economic impact of the pandemic, which could cause unprecedented economic collapse.
Mr Conte, who approved an initial 25 billion-euro package of measures in March, plans to fund another stimulus package for the economy worth 55 billion euros.
Despite this, Italy’s retailers association claimed on Saturday that consumer spending in the country will see a huge 84 billion-euro drop this year.
Earlier this week, Italy’s credit rating was cut by Fitch to a step just above junk.
One taxi driver Claudio told Sky News: “The virus has lost its punch here, still it won’t take much and we’ll be starving soon. I’m really scared. Because if you have debts or get behind on your mortgage, you can’t get new loans from the bank.”
This comes as the number of new coronavirus cases in Italy remained stable while deaths rose.
Civil protection authorities announced on Saturday that there were 1,900 new cases, compared with 1,965 a day earlier.
There were 474 deaths from the virus, compared with 269 on Friday, bringing the total number of fatalities to 28,710.
The lockdown, border closures, and travel restrictions have taken their toll on Italy’s economy, which was worsened by an initial lack of soldarity from the EU.”

“Foreign states are mounting cyber-attacks against British universities researching the coronavirus, according to security sources.
Britain’s National Cyber Security Centre is said to be working flat out to fend off the attacks, which they have condemned as “utterly reprehensible”.
“We have seen an increased proportion of cyber attacks related to coronavirus and our experts work around-the-clock to help organisations targeted,” the Government Communications Headquarters (GCHQ) subsidiary confirmed in a statement quoted in the Mail on Sunday.
“It looks like they’re trying to steal or borrow information about our response to coronavirus,” a source told the newspaper.
“This problem – intellectual property theft and a blurred line between state and serious crime – has been around for a while but there’s obviously now an increased need to ensure we protect UK PLC and its assets,” another source added.
The Mail cited the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Russian Federation as countries the cyber-attacks had been traced to — but, curiously, made no mention of China, whose communist regime has a particular interest in the pandemic and a reputation for aggressive theft of private information and intellectual property.
Security officials in the United States have been less coy, with Bill Evanina, director of the National Counter-intelligence and Security Center, telling the BBC that “We have every expectation foreign intelligence services, to include the Chinese Communist Party, will attempt to obtain what we are making here.”
He added that his officials had been working hard “to ensure [that American medical researchers] are protecting all the research and data as best they can.”
Tobias Ellwood MP, a former Defence minister and current chairman of the Defence Committee of the House of Commons, has struck a similarly combative tone, warning that the “global distraction of Covid-19 provides the perfect fog of war to conduct cyber attacks” — and that Britain should “not hesitate in retaliating”.”

“Muslim Fulani raiders in north-west Nigeria slaughtered 12 Christians and kidnapped a couple from their church wedding ceremony in recent days, Christian Today reports.
In late April, Fulani militants killed seven Christians in three separate attacks over five days in Rafi County, including the execution of two Christians in Gidigori village on April 20th.
A group of Islamists also stormed a church in Shiroro County where a wedding was taking place on April 12th, kidnapping the bride and groom along with some other church members.
“As the pastor was officiating during the wedding solemnization, the herdsmen stormed the church and took away everyone who was unable to escape from the church building, including the bride and groom,” said area resident Danjuma Iliya.
“In that village, five Christians were killed in the series of attacks carried out by the herdsmen.”
Armed Fulani herdsmen also abducted Emmanuel Iliya Agiya, elder and treasurer of the Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA) in Jema’a County on April 22nd.
The raiders reportedly fired shots into the air to scare local villagers before breaking into Iliya’s house and leading him away at gunpoint.
“The armed herdsmen first tried to forcefully gain entry into the house of the brother of the victim but were unsuccessful,” said Aku Joshua Shai, an eyewitness to the attack. “They then proceeded to the next house, the victim’s house, dragged him out, and then took him away at gunpoint.”
Shai added that in the same county, armed Fulani militants attacked Zakkan village on April 14, killing one Christian, 40-year-old Abel Danjuma, and wounding two others.
“The three victims are members of the Catholic Church at Zakkan village,” Shai said. “The herdsmen, too, blocked the Abuja-Jos route at Zakkan village and kidnapped two young girls who were travelling from Abuja to Taraba state. The girls were later rescued and set free by Christians from Zakkan village who went in pursuit of the herdsmen and rescued the girls.”
The U.S. Commission for International Religious Freedom included Nigeria in its shortlist of “Countries of Particular Concern” (CPC) in its 2020 report released last week, asserting that the nation is guilty of engaging in or tolerating “particularly severe” violations of religious freedom.
Likewise, in December 2019, the State Department named Nigeria to its Special Watch List (SWL) for severe violations of religious liberty.”

“For a third night straight, the “vulnerable neighbourhood” of Monnaie in the commune of Romans-sur-Isère saw clashes between “youths” and police as violence continues to occur despite coronavirus lockdown measures.
On Thursday morning an incident took place near the rue Ninon Vallin when a stolen Fiat Punto crashed into the mast of a video camera on a roundabout in the area.
The 18-year-old driver of the stolen Fiat was arrested but a group of twenty or so of his friends spotted the arrest and proceeded to attack police and set the Fiat on fire, France Bleu reports.
As more police arrived on the scene to aid their colleagues, the youths also called for backup, until a group of around 40 people were throwing stones and rocks at officers. A large homemade firework was also shot at the police, who were forced to use defensive measures to disperse the crowd.
Attacks on police had taken place for several days prior, believed to have been sparked by an incident last Friday in which youths burned down a car and threw rocks at motorcycle police who arrived on the scene.
Elsewhere in France in the commune of Compiègne, police attempting to enforce the Chinese coronavirus curfew were attacked by a mob of up to 150 people. Officers claimed that at least 100 fireworks were shot at them between 10:30 p.m. and 11 p.m.
“The situation is becoming more and more tense,” one local police officer told the newspaper Le Parisien.
In the Vénissieux area of the city of Lyon, there were several anti-police attacks this week, along with two attempted murders — both shootings that are believed to be gang-related.
In one of the attacks on police, an officer suffered a head injury when a rock was thrown through his police vehicle’s window.
The strict coronavirus lockdown has not stopped urban rioting and anti-police violence across France, including at least four days of rioting last week.”

“Journalism in Egypt has effectively become a crime over the past four years, as authorities clamp down on media outlets and muzzle dissent, Amnesty International said in a report released Sunday.
As the number of coronavirus infections in Egypt continues to rise, the government is strengthening its control over information, the London-based rights group said, instead of upholding transparency during the public health crisis.
“The Egyptian authorities have made it very clear that anyone who challenges the official narrative will be severely punished,” said Philip Luther, Amnesty’s Middle East and North Africa director.
Amnesty documented 37 cases of journalists detained in the government’s escalating crackdown on press freedoms, many charged with “spreading false news” or “misusing social media” under a broad 2015 counterterrorism law that has expanded the definition of terror to include all kinds of dissent.
An Egyptian press officer did not respond to multiple calls seeking comment, but authorities have previously denied rights violations and justified arrests on national security grounds.
Following general-turned-president Abdel Fattah el-Sissi’s rise to power in 2013, most of Egypt’s television programs and newspapers have taken the government position and steered clear of criticism, or else disappeared. Many privately owned Egyptian news outlets have been quietly acquired by companies affiliated with the country’s intelligence service.
But even a pro-government voice hasn’t spared 12 journalists working for state-owned media outlets, who have landed in jail for expressing various private views on social media, the report said.
One of them is Atef Hasballah, editor-in-chief of the AlkararPress website. When he challenged the Health Ministry’s coronavirus case count on his Facebook page last month, he was promptly bundled into a police van and detained on suspicion of “joining a terrorist organization.”
Egypt’s public prosecutor warned in a recent statement that those who spread “false news” about the coronavirus may face up to five years imprisonment and steep fines. At least 12 individuals have been caught up in the COVID-19-motivated crackdown so far, according to Amnesty. Last month, authorities blocked a local news site that covered calls by activists to release political prisoners over fears of the coronavirus spreading in Egypt’s crowded prisons. Separately, Egypt expelled a correspondent for The Guardian newspaper over an article that indicated the coronavirus infection rate may be higher than officially reported.
The journalists interviewed by Amnesty reported increasingly direct state intervention in their coverage. Many working for government-owned or aligned papers said they receive specific instructions via WhatsApp on what to report and to omit. For instance, a directive on how to handle President Trump’s proposal to end the Israeli-Palestinian conflict this year asked reporters not to mention the plan’s violations of long-standing Arab policies, as Trump and el-Sissi have cultivated close ties.
Those who do not hew the official line, such as by praising prison conditions and smearing the state’s political opponents, “lost their jobs, were interrogated or imprisoned,” one journalist was quoted as saying. “I cannot even imagine that someone could refuse to comply.”

Jeffery Ray Woodke, 59, a Christian humanitarian worker in Niger since 1991, was kidnapped in the country’s northern desert in October 2016 by militants aligned with the Islamic State terrorist group. “My hope is really that he’s isolated enough. But that doesn’t always protect you. So, yes, I am more worried,” Els Woodke told ABC News last week in her first U.S. interview since her husband’s abduction more than three years ago.
Addressing his captors directly, Els Woodke said, “I would say, please consider Jeff’s age and what is going on in the world. It’s not good to keep captives. Send him home.”

On his return home, the person then claimed to have received both support messages from his subscribers and insults from Zemmour’s “followers”. However, he admitted that he “should not have insulted him” and stated that “it is impossible to talk to him, he is superstrong, debate is impossible”. “It’s as if I wanted to talk to Marine Le Pen,” he continued, “apart from insulting his mother, what do you want to do?

Essalih was a well-known muslim gangster from De Pijp, Amsterdam. Brother of well-known kickboxer Hamza Essalih, who was nicknamed as “Soesie” (a reference to his roots south of the Rif-mountains in Morocco). Essalih himself was known as “Centjes” (“money”, because he did everything for money) and “Omar Soesie”.

North and South Korea fired hundreds of artillery shells into each other’s waters Monday in a flare-up of animosity that forced residents of five front-line South Korean islands to evacuate to shelters for several hours, South Korean officials said.
South Korean Marines fired artillery shells across a disputed sea border after North Korean shells from a live fire drill conducted by Pyongyang fell into the water south of the frontier, Seoul officials told the Associated Press.
There were no reports of any injuries. Residents on front-line South Korean islands spent several hours in shelters during the firing, and officials temporarily halted ferry service linking the islands to the mainland. Kang Myeong-sung, speaking from a shelter on Yeonpyeong island, which is in sight of North Korean territory, said he didn’t hear any fighter jets but heard the boom of artillery fire.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Shots fired by North Korea across its border with South Korea were likely “accidental,” U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said on Sunday as speculation continues to swirl about the health of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.
North and South Korea on Saturday exchanged gunfire around a rural guard post, raising tension a day after North Korean state media showed Kim visiting a factory, the first report of him making a public appearance since April 11.
South Korea responded to shots fired from across the DMZ but no casualties were reported.

There was always an international flavor to what was done gathering and disseminating the fake dossier. Right now we are wondering if there is emough evidence to get Hillary or Obama before a Judge, trying to get the Soros level people before a Judge is going to be a lot harder. If we can get several of the Intel agencies and Federal Police agencies cleaned of the Deep State then we might be able to get an investigation started into the international aspect of the coup. Ottawa mosques allowed to broadcast call to prayer at sundown during Ramadan
OTTAWA — Mosques across Ottawa will be allowed to broadcast a five-minute call to prayer each evening during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The City of Ottawa has granted a new noise exemption to allow mosques to broadcast a call to prayer at sundown until May 23, in recognition of the holy month of Ramadan.
The city says the noise exemption has been permitted in recognition of Ramadan and in light of the Ontario Government’s order prohibiting the gathering of more than five people.
In a statement on Twitter, Mayor Jim Watson said “I hope this will help our Muslims friends in their observance of this sacred month of devotion and spiritual reflection. Ramadan Mubarak!”
The city and Ottawa Public Health remind residents to continue to follow health precaution recommendations during the COVID-19 pandemic, including practicing physical distancing and washing your hands thoroughly and often.

“Migrants in the Barriera di Milano, an area in the city of Turin containing many ethnic shops, have been accused of ignoring strict coronavirus lockdown measures by local Italians.
Locals in the area have complained that despite the strict lockdown measures, many migrants continue to gather in the various ethnic shops in the area with a local named Roberto stating that “in reality, they have turned into meeting places for foreigners who camp out with a beer in hand.”
“They can do whatever they want, they have always done as they please, while we don’t even know if we will be able to reopen,” he told Italian newspaper Il Giornale.
Augusta Montaruli, a member of the national-conservative Brothers of Italy (FdI) party, claims there have been dozens of reports of lockdown violations in the heavily migrant-populated areas of the city.
“We have denounced it for some time now, the gatherings have already taken place: just take a tour of our suburbs to realize it. They take place in the sunlight. In front of everyone’s eyes. Unpunished,” Montaruli said.
“These people do not care about the suffering and sacrifices that decent people are making,” he added, calling on both the Interior Minister and the Mayor of Turin to deal with the illegal gatherings.
Similar behaviour has been seen during the lockdown in other countries in areas with high migration-background populations, such as the northern 18th arrondissement of Paris where it was reported that the police were finding at least 200 violations per day.
The situation in the Paris suburbs of Seine-Saint-Denis was reported to be even worse. The area, which hosts a very substantial population of illegal migrants, is said to see between 400 and 900 violations of the lockdown measures every day — many times more than the national average.
The Seine-Saint-Denis local police had previously claimed to be overwhelmed at the start of the lockdown, with one officer stating: “We are not going to give up. But we also know where these people live and how they live. Strict containment, for them, is just impossible.””

The majority view among the U.S. intelligence community agencies is that COVID-19 is natural and accidentally leaked out of a laboratory in Wuhan, China, a senior intelligence official told the Daily Caller News Foundation.
While not all of the 17 agencies that make up the IC are fully behind the idea that the novel coronavirus was an accidental laboratory leak, most believe that to be the case, according to the senior official. The official added that the holdouts are still open to the possibility that the virus leaked from a laboratory.
The unanimous view of the IC is that the virus was not the result of an intentional act, the senior official noted.
That official’s account confirms what Fox News White House reporter John Roberts reported Saturday, and matches with what President Donald Trump has said publicly.
Roberts cited a senior intelligence official in reporting that “there is agreement among most of the 17 Intelligence agencies that COVID-19 originated in the Wuhan lab. The source stressed that the release is believed to be a MISTAKE, and was not intentional.”
“Sources say not all 17 intelligence agencies agree that the lab was the source of the virus because there is not yet a definitive ‘smoking gun’. But confidence is high among 70-75% of the agencies,” Roberts added.
The Office of the Director of National Intelligence confirmed in a statement Thursday that the IC is “rigorously” investigating whether the virus was a result of a lab leak, while making clear that COVID-19 is not believed to be “manmade or genetically modified.”
Trump said during a press conference Thursday that he has seen information that indicates with a high degree of confidence that the virus originated from the Wuhan Institute of Virology.
“Have you seen anything at this point that gives you a high degree of confidence that the Wuhan Institute of Virology was the origin of the virus?” Roberts asked Trump Thursday.
“Yes, I have,” Trump answered. “And I think the World Health Organization should be ashamed of themselves because they’re like the public relations agency for China.”
