Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.
This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

Turkey: 2 gendarmeries martyred in clash with terrorists

“Two Turkish gendarmeries were martyred in eastern Turkey in a clash with terrorists, the Interior Ministry said on Saturday.
In a statement, the ministry said that four gendarmeries were also injured in the eastern Bitlis province during an anti-terror operation in the region.
The operation is still ongoing, the statement added.
In its more than 30-year terror campaign against Turkey, the PKK — listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the US and the European Union — has been responsible for the deaths of nearly 40,000 people including women, children, and infants.”

Migrants rescued at sea to be allowed off Italy’s quarantine ferry

“Around 180 migrants rescued at sea and held in isolation on an Italian ferry off the coast of Sicily will be disembarked in Palermo on Monday, the Avvenire daily said.
The migrants had been pulled to safety in two separate operations by NGO rescue vessels and placed on the Rubattino ferry after Italy closed its ports due to the coronavirus epidemic.
All tested negative for the virus.
The Avvenire said holding them longer than the 14-day isolation period would leave Italy open to accusations of illegally detaining the migrants — something of which it is very wary.
Far-right leader Matteo Salvini is to stand trial accused of just that after he blocked migrants from disembarking from a coast guard boat while he was interior minister last year.
He had insisted they not be allowed off until a deal was made with the EU over who had duty of care for them.
It was not yet known whether the 183 people disembarking on Monday, including two women and 44 unaccompanied minors, would be sent to other EU countries.
Nearby Malta is currently refusing to allow 57 migrants who were rescued from a dingy this week to disembark until there is an EU agreement on their future placement.
They are being held just outside Malta’s territorial waters on a private vessel that is normally used for tour cruises, the Mediterranean island nation’s government said.
It remains unclear whether Italy will re-open its ports as the country gradually lifts its two-month lockdown from Monday.
Malta has officially recorded four coronavirus deaths, compared with more than 28,000 reported by Italy.”

“Afghan authorities have released at least 100 members of the Taliban movement from prison in Kabul, the TOLOnews reported on Saturday, citing a source.
According to the media outlet, the prisoners were released from the Pole Charkhi prison on Saturday evening.
“The prisoner release is a complicated process that is going forward based on the presidential decree… 950 other prisoners will be released so that we can fight the coronavirus and move the peace process forward,” Javid Faisal, a spokesman for the National Security Council, was quoted as saying by the broadcaster.
The Taliban are demanding that the Afghan authorities release 5,000 prisoners on the basis of an agreement with the United States. The Afghan government agreed to gradually release 1,500 prisoners.
The agreement was intended to pave the way for the withdrawal of US and NATO troops from the country within 14 months and the beginning of intra-Afghan talks between the militant group and the government. These talks were initially scheduled to commence on March 10 but have been delayed due to Afghanistan’s electoral crisis and mutual disagreements over the release of prisoners.
The Afghan government has accused the Taliban of releasing civilians as part of the exchange, rather than military personnel who were named on lists submitted to the militant group.
