Nations’ failure to fulfil the promises they made in the Paris climate agreement to make drastic emissions cuts could cost the global economy as much as $600 trillion this century, new analysis showed Tuesday.
Under the landmark 2015 accord, countries pledged to voluntarily reduce greenhouse gas emissions from the burning of fossil fuels in order to limit global temperature rises to “well below” two degrees Celsius.
The deal committed states to work towards a safer temperature cap of 1.5C, through individual emissions reductions plans, known as nationally determined contributions (NDCs).
With just 1C of warming since pre-industrial times, Earth is already undergoing devastating heatwaves, drought, wildfires and storm surges made worse by rising seas.
The United Nations says that global emissions must fall by more than seven percent every year between now and 2030 to hit the 1.5C target.
Yet countries’ current NDCs put Earth on course to heat by far more by 2100 — between 3C and 4C above the historic baseline.
While several studies have sought to estimate the economic cost of failure to mitigate climate change, few have tried to quantify the potential net economic gain rapid action could bring.
Writing in the journal Nature Communications, an international team of climate experts simulated the costs of global cooperative action under a variety of scenarios.
Considering aspects such as warming thresholds, the cost of low-carbon technology, the cost of climate damage and the idea of countries paying their “fair share” towards fixing the problem, the team was able to quantify net benefit — that is how much the global economy stood to gain under various plans.
They found that the world would gain $336-422 trillion by 2100 if action was taken to keep warming to 2C and 1.5C respectively.
But if they fail to achieve the Paris temperature goals, countries stand to lose up to $600 trillion ($126-616 trillion) by century’s end.
This amounts to an average loss of 0.57 percent of national GDP annually to 2100.
– ‘Huge losses’ –
With the US set to leave the Paris deal this year, the researchers also looked at the cost of countries failing even to live up to their current NDC pledges.
That loss ranged between $150 trillion and $790 trillion — up to 7.5 times current global GDP.
“We think that if every country or region can greatly enhance their actions for emission mitigation, it is possible to achieve the 1.5C,” said lead study author Biying Yu, from the Beijing Institute of Technology.
“But implementing such a self-preservation strategy in a real word requires countries to recognise the gravity of global warming and to make breakthroughs in low-carbon technologies.”
Yu said countries had traditionally prioritised short-term economic gain over climate action — and were therefore missing out on significant cost benefits from moving early.
“Without the upfront investment, emissions cannot be reduced, and the climate damage will occur with higher probability, which will result in huge economic loss,” he said.
The study found that global upfront climate investment would need to be $18-113 trillion in order for the world to “break even” in its climate plan.
More than 90 percent of this should come from G20 nations, the research found.
“If countries are well aware of the huge losses they will suffer if they don’t reduce emissions… will they be more rational in making choices that will protect them, thereby boosting their response to climate change and driving the global climate governance process?” said Yu.

Sweden vs UK comparison. Could it be that Sweden was simply more common sense in its approach and was cognizant of its economy from the start? Turkey to release tens of thousands of prisoners over virus fears except for journalists and politicians (telegraph, Apr 14, 2020)

“Turkey’s parliament on Tuesday passed a law that will allow the release of tens of thousands of prisoners to ease overcrowding in jails and protect detainees from the coronavirus, but which critics slam for excluding those jailed on terrorism charges.
President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s AK Party and nationalist MHP allies supported the bill, which was accepted with 279 votes for and 51 votes against, deputy parliament speaker Sureyya Sadi Bilgic said.
The law will open the way for the temporary release of around 45,000 prisoners to stem the spread of the coronavirus. Those eligible will be released under judicial control until the end of May and the Justice Ministry will be able to extend the period three times by a maximum of two months each time, according to the law.
A similar number would be released permanently under a separate part of the legislation aimed at reducing prison overcrowding.
Justice Minister Abdulhamit Gul said on Monday there were 17 confirmed cases of Covid-19 among prisoners, including three deaths, and 79 prison personnel had also tested positive.
The law has been criticised by opposition parties and activists for excluding those jailed on terrorism charges, which include journalists and politicians swept up in a crackdown following a coup attempt in 2016.
Opposition members say the release of criminals including thieves, racketeers and those involved in bribery could lead to a rise in crime.
Violations of Turkey’s intelligence law are not eligible for earlier release, which opposition members said aimed to exclude journalists imprisoned earlier this year for reporting the death of Turkish intelligence members in Libya’s conflict.

After the 2017 London Bridge terrorist attack, the British people were informed that there were some 23,000 suspected terrorists being monitored by MI5 — this itself already a significant rise on the 3,000 suspects the government had admitted to knowing about to that point. However, a report has revealed that there are an additional 20,000 people on the government’s watchlist.
The numbers include 3,000 subjects of interest (SOI), who are actively being investigated by the government and 40,000 “closed” subjects of interest (CSOI), who are deemed by MI5 judges “to be some risk of re-engaging in terrorist activity”, The Times reports.
The list of “closed” subjects of interest included Salman Abedi, who killed 22 people during the Manchester Arena bombing and Khalid Masood, who ran over pedestrians and stabbed a police constable to death in the 2017 Westminster terror attack. Both terrorists were allowed to slip through the cracks of the surveillance system due to “limited resources“.
In its report, the government claimed that the increased number of terrorists on MI5’s watch list does not necessarily mean that there are 20,000 additional terrorists presently in the country.
“A substantial element of the increase to over 40,000 is the inclusion of individuals who have never travelled to the UK but whose details have been passed to MI5 by foreign intelligence services, in order that MI5 be alerted should they enter the UK,” the report said.
Earlier this year, it was revealed that some 160 convicted terrorists had been released back onto the streets of Britain. The revelation came in the wake of the Streatham terror attack in which Sudesh Amman stabbed two people days after being automatically released from prison.
The attack prompted the government to pass emergency legislation, ending the automatic early release of convicted terrorists. Those convicted of terror offences will now have to serve at least two-thirds of their sentence and be reviewed by a parole board before being released.”
EU offers Afghanistan 117 mln euros to fight COVID-19 pandemic
The European Union here on Sunday announced an aid package worth 117 million euros (128 million U. S. dollars) to help Afghans contain the COVID-19 pandemic.
“The EU recognizes that Afghanistan may be severely affected by the pandemic. Afghanistan’s public health system is weakened by years of conflict, has to cope with limited resources, and is not accessible throughout the country,” the office of the EU delegation to Afghanistan said in the statement posted on its website.
The fund would specifically give attention to Afghans returning from Iran and Pakistan or internally displaced persons as well as awareness raising, sanitation and hygiene measures, to mitigate the illness effects in the war and poverty-affected nation, the statement noted.
The EU delegation in Afghanistan also called on the government and militants to observe an immediate humanitarian ceasefire as the COVID-19 is feared to further spread in the country.
As of Sunday afternoon, 607 cases of the COVID-19 infection have been confirmed in Afghanistan. A total of 19 people had died and 38 patients recovered from the infectious disease, according to Afghan Ministry of Public Health figures.

UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, urges greater support to Afghanistan, Pakistan and Iran in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, warning that leaving Afghans and their host communities behind will have a far-reaching and negative impact on global efforts to fight the virus
The coronavirus poses a very great threat to developing nations. An outbreak would put extraordinary strain on already fragile local health-care services and likely result in avoidable suffering and death.
Despite persistent risks and insecurity, Afghans continue to return from both Iran and Pakistan. Tens of thousands of Afghan citizens have crossed over from Pakistan to Afghanistan since the temporary re-opening of the border last week.
From Iran, while the number of Afghans nationals returning peaked at some 60,000 in March, around 1,500 individuals are currently returning every day.
[…]UNHCR has temporarily suspended supporting voluntary returns of refugees from Iran and Pakistan in an attempt to limit the risk of refugees and staff contracting the virus.
[…]In Iran, UNHCR has airlifted essential medicines, medical equipment and personal protective equipment to support and strengthen national health services. More support is desperately needed for Afghanistan, Iran and Pakistan as part of collective efforts to combat COVID-19 worldwide. Despite the work being done across the subregion, the risk of the pandemic become unmanageable is now acute.

IMF Providing Debt Relief To Help 25 Countries Deal With Pandemic
The International Monetary Fund says it will provide immediate debt service relief to 25 of its poorer member states so they can focus more financial resources on fighting the coronavirus pandemic.
IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva said the IMF’s executive board on April 13 approved the first group of countries that will receive grants to cover their debt-service obligations to the IMF for an initial six months.
They include Afghanistan and Tajikistan, as well as war-torn Yemen and debt-stricken countries in Africa and Asia.
Georgieva said the IMF’s Catastrophe Containment and Relief Trust (CCRT) currently has about $500 million in resources available, including new pledges of $185 million from Britain, $100 million from Japan, and undisclosed amounts from China, the Netherlands, and others.
The IMF is pushing to raise its available resources to $1.4 billion.
“This provides grants to our poorest and most vulnerable members to cover their IMF debt obligations for an initial phase over the next six months and will help them channel more of their scarce financial resources towards vital emergency medical and other relief efforts,” Georgieva said.
More than 1.9 million people have been reported to be infected by the coronavirus globally and more than 119,000 have died, a tally kept by Johns Hopkins University said early on April 14.

Roger Stone: Bill Gates may have created coronavirus to microchip people
Roger Stone suggested Monday that Bill Gates may have had a hand in the creation of coronavirus so that he could plant microchips in people’s heads to know who has and has not been tested for COVID-19.
“Whether Bill Gates played some role in the creation and spread of this virus is open for vigorous debate. I have conservative friends who say it’s ridiculous and others say absolutely,” Stone told Joe Piscopo, host of the radio program “The Answer” on 970 AM, who had asked about conspiracy theories regarding the pandemic.
“He and other globalists are using it for mandatory vaccinations and microchipping people so we know if they’ve been tested. Over my dead body. Mandatory vaccinations? No way, Jose!” Stone told a fawning Piscopo, who referred to President Trump’s longtime adviser as “a legend.”
Gates has long been an outspoken advocate for preparing for a global health crisis like coronavirus.
Stone also weighed in on the presidential race, calling Joe Biden “an exceptionally weak candidate. The guy’s just not all there.”
Asked by the former “Saturday Night Live” star whether Gov. Andrew Cuomo would be a better candidate than Biden, Stone said a Cuomo candidacy was not likely to happen.
“I think he’s done a very good job. He’s enhanced his position with the public. He’s a strong communicator, he speaks the people’s language,” he said of Cuomo.
“In order for Cuomo to emerge, Biden would have to get hit by a bus, [and] God forbid we’re not for that. I think [a Cuomo nomination is] a fantasy by the Democrats who see Biden as an intrinsically weak candidate.”
But he also said Trump was no shoo-in — especially if the economy remains in the toilet because of the pandemic.
“Anybody who tells you what’s going to happen in 2020 doesn’t know what they are talking about,” he said.
“I believe the president will be elected, but I think it’ll be a tougher fight than people think.”
Stone, who was sentenced in February to 40 months in the slammer following his conviction last fall for lying to Congress and threatening a witness while working on Trump’s 2016 campaign, said he prayed daily to cope with being cooped up at home under the Sunshine State’s stay-at-home order.
“Like most Americans, we’re hunkered down. It gives you time to spend with the family, time to write, and pray. It has its pluses, but every gym in Florida is closed, when I can’t go to the gym, it drives me crazy,” the 67-year-old Stone said.
“Praying is a big part of my daily ritual. You just put things in His hands and it takes a lot of pressure off you and you can see the path forward very clearly,” he continued.
“Not going to Mass on Easter Sunday, that’s the first time in my life I missed Mass. I watched the pope. I’m not particularly crazy about this pope’s politics,” he said, though he found the service moving.

Trudeau announces new quarantine measures for travellers, $130 million in funding for territories
Travellers returning to Canada during the COVID-19 pandemic must have what the feds are calling a “credible quarantine plan” before they enter the country or be forced to spend their mandatory 14-day isolation period in a hotel, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced on Tuesday.
The heightened quarantine measures will take effect beginning at midnight.
“The order that goes in tonight is the strengthening of the Quarantine Act orders to give authorities the ability upon evaluation of the person entering Canada’s plan to quarantine. If it is inadequate, they will be required to quarantine in a hotel,” Trudeau said.
“Things that could be inadequate, for example, if their plan is to go stay in a place where there are many elderly family members at risk of COVID-19 or whether they don’t have a set destination if they’ve been outside of the country for many years. We now have the authority to require them to self-isolate for two weeks in a quarantine location, like a hotel,” the prime minister added.
Anyone entering Canada is currently required to immediately isolate themselves from others, in accordance with the Quarantine Act, which was invoked to try to slow the spread of the novel coronavirus. Quarantine rules have varied slightly for those with and without symptoms of COVID-19, but regardless of a traveller’s health they were require to directly report to the location where they’re isolating and stay there for 14 days.
Under the current orders, anyone exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19 is barred from isolating somewhere they could come into contact with someone older than 65 years old or who has underlying health conditions, such as a compromised immune system, which would make them especially susceptible to the coronavirus.
Anyone violating the emergency quarantine orders is subject to potential fines and jail time.
Trudeau also announced Tuesday that his government will be turning over close to $130 million to the territories to help them respond to the pandemic. More than half of the funding will support the territories’ health-care systems.
Nunavut, which as of Tuesday morning was the only province or territory in Canada not to report a case of the coronavirus, will receive $30.8 million to bolster their health-care system. The Northwest Territories, which has five reported cases, will similarly receive $23.4 million, and Yukon, where there are eight cases, will receive $18.4 million in health-care funding.
The federal government is providing $5 million to Nunavut, $8.8 million to the Northwest Territories and $3.6 million to Yukon to support air carriers that transport goods including food, medical supplies and help provide other services to Canada’s remote and fly-in communities.
The government will also be granting up to $15 million to territory businesses if they’ve been impacted by COVID-19 and their operating costs are not already supported by other federal measures.
Nutrition North Canada, a federal subsidy program that seeks to improve Northern communities access to nutritious food, will also receive a $25-million top-up in funding.
Apart from the funding for Canada’s North, Trudeau also announced that the Canadian Food Inspection Agency would receive a $20-million boost in its budget to reassure the safety of the country’s food supply.
“This will mean we can build capacity for more overtime and extra shifts for inspectors to fill demand, and it also means we can invest in things like hiring and training to get more people on board,” Trudeau said.
As well, the prime minister said his government is discussing with the provinces ways to support long-term care workers and other workers in essential industries, who are still working during what’s essentially a national lockdown. Trudeau said the federal government is looking into measures “like Quebec has done” for long-term care facilities. The province that has discovered the most cases of COVID-19 is testing all residents and staff of long-term care facilities for COVID-19, as well as increasing the amount of medical staff in these facilities, after it was revealed close to half of the coronavirus-related deaths in the province were in these facilities.
Trudeau also said the federal government is considering a similar model to Quebec to “ensure that people (long-term care workers and other workers in essential industries) are motivated and encouraged financially.”
Low-income workers in Quebec who are still reporting to their jobs during the crisis are eligible for a $100 per week top-up on their salaries, to attempt to bring their income above what they would receive from the Canada Emergency Response Benefit.
The prime minister reaffirmed as well on Tuesday that it will be “weeks” until Canadians can return to their normal lifestyles and before the Canadian economy can allowed to restart.
Re-opening Canada’s economy will have to be done “in phases” and people’s own vigilance will be necessary until a vaccine for COVID-19 is discovered, Trudeau said.
“Discussions are ongoing about how we’re going to reopen the economy. It’s just that it’s going to be a while, still,” Trudeau added on Tuesday.

In this spring season, America’s future is fraught with uncertainties as a result of the pandemic unleased by Communist China’s malicious concealment of a virus it had apparently developed in a Wuhan laboratory. Will the nation be able to “re-open” as the president desires, or will it descend into a long-lasting depression with millions unemployed? At the same time, a much greater uncertainty haunts the horizon. This uncertainty is a product of the ferocious hate for the president and his supporters ginned up by the political Left ever since the 2016 election. The anti-Trump fervor is so intense it has divided the nation into two alien camps until there is hardly any longer a national conversation, or a united front in the face of the deadly contagion.
For anyone not in thrall to anti-Trump obsessions, the spectacle of Trump hatred is mystifying, even unfathomable. It’s not that the criticisms of Trump are harsh – that is the currency of democratic politics. The problem is that they are not merely harsh but veer on the lunatic until communication with those who voice them seems impossible. It is why the national conversation and a semblance of national unity in the face of threats seem almost hopeless.
A recent New York Times interview with the comedian and Bernie Sanders impersonator Larry David crystalizes the problem. “You know, it’s an amazing thing,” David told the Times, “[Trump] has not one redeeming quality. You could take some of the worst dictators in history, and I’m sure that all of them, you could find one decent quality. Stalin could have had one decent quality, we don’t know!”

“Police have arrested four unaccompanied minor migrants in Bordeaux in connection with the burglaries or attempted burglaries of 28 pharmacies in the city and surrounding area.
Officers arrested the minor migrants over the weekend as they were caught in the act of trying to break into a pharmacy. Deputy prosecutor Olivier Etienne requested three of the four remain in custody until their trial.
The prosecutor added that while all four of the migrants claim to be minors, at least two of them are actually adults after the prosecution checked their backgrounds with the Gironde departmental security department’s “unaccompanied minors” (MNA) group, 20 Minutes reports.
The MNA group has previously dismantled an Algerian migrant network run by a family which used dozens of minor migrants to commit crimes including violent robberies.
The 28 burglaries and attempted burglaries, which have seen some pharmacies robbed more than once, have all been reported since the French government, led by President Emmanuel Macron, ordered the country into lockdown on March 17th to stop the spread of the Wuhan coronavirus.
The lockdown, which was initially meant to last just 15 days, has since been extended by the government until May 11th, with President Macron announcing the extension in a televised address on Monday.
“The epidemic is starting to slow down. The results are there,” Macron said but admitted: “Our country was not sufficiently ready for this crisis. We will all draw all the consequences.”
French prisons, which continue to be overcrowded, have also seen at least 8,000 inmates released since the start of the lockdown in a bid to stop the spread of the virus within the prison system.
“The overcrowding rate, which was 119 per cent on March 1st with more than 72,400 inmates, was 107 per cent on April 7th with 64,439 inmates. We, therefore, have close to 8,000 fewer detainees,” French Justice Minister Nicole Belloubet said last week.
Over the weekend, Adeline Hazan, the Comptroller-General of Places of Deprivation of Liberty (CGLPL), called for the government to release another 7,000 inmates who are near the end of their sentences.
The prisons comptroller argued that the prison system simply was not prepared for a pandemic, saying: “Given this prison overcrowding that we have known for decades, it would have been obvious that we had to foresee what could happen in the event of an epidemic and unfortunately we realise that it was not done.”
Ms Hazan added that those with six months left in their sentences should be released. But she argued dangerous inmates, such as violent criminals and convicted terrorists, should not be part of the release programme.”

Province in China Prepares Thousands of Hospital Beds Amid New Wave of Infections
A province in northern China is preparing thousands of hospital beds in anticipation of a surge in CCP virus patients—days after lockdown measures were relaxed in the epicenter city of Wuhan, according to internal documents viewed by The Epoch Times.
Heilongjiang, China’s northernmost province, locked down its border city of Suifenhe on April 7, in what officials said was an attempt to stem the flow of imported cases from Russia.
From March 27 to April 9, the city reported more than 100 imported cases, as well as 148 asymptomatic patients—those infected who don’t show any symptoms of the disease COVID-19—that were imported cases. Only three new domestic infections were reported during that period.
Residents in Heilongjiang, however, have expressed doubt about the official figures, saying authorities were likely aiming to downplay the severity of the new wave of infections by focusing on imported cases.
Suifenhe is building a 600-bed makeshift hospital dedicated to asymptomatic patients, while its 70,000 residents are now under lockdown. Only one person from each household can venture out for necessities once every three days.

Police with batons charged hundreds of jobless migrant workers in India on Tuesday who were demanding that special trains be run to take them to their home villages.
The migrant workers crowded a Mumbai train station in protest of the government’s decision to extend the world’s largest lockdown on its 1.3 billion people until May 3.
The workers were hoping for easing of the lockdown restrictions to allow them to return home, mostly in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar states.

“A Muslim advocacy group in the United States has called on the Republican Party to disavow a congressional candidate who said Islam’s protected religious status in America should be revoked.
Rick Phillips, a candidate for the US House of Representatives for Iowa’s second district, told a local television station on Monday that Islam was not a faith that is protected by the First Amendment.
Sitting in front of a Trump campaign flag, Phillips said freedom of religion in the United States was founded on the idea that only different denominations of the Christian faith should be protected.
“They were not talking about anti-Christian beliefs,” he said of America’s founders. “Now if a person does not want to believe in Christ, that’s their business, but to say that this first amendment right includes all religions in the world, I think is erroneous.”
“Islam was not apart of the founders’ denominational beliefs at the time,” he added.
In response to his statements, the director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) called on Republican Party leaders to disavow Phillips’ “Islamophobic, unconstitutional views” and to “take a strong stand in support of religious diversity and inclusion”.
Speaking to Iowa’s Des Moines Register newspaper, the GOP spokesman for the state, Aaron Britt, also condemned Phillips’ comments and said that his beliefs “are not reflective of the views of the Republican Party of Iowa”.
National Republican Party leaders have yet to comment publicly on the matter.
‘Anti-American views’
During Monday’s interview, Phillips also told a story that falsely implied Thomas Jefferson, in particular, was against extending religious freedoms to Islam.
It is well documented that Jefferson, when helping to draft Virginia’s Statute of Religious Freedom, was against specifying Christianity as the official religion of the land. In his autobiography, he said inserting the name “Jesus Christ” into the statute “was rejected by a great majority” at the time.
That rejection was “proof” that early Americans “meant to comprehend, within the mantle of its protection, the Jew and the Gentile, the Christian and Mahometan (Muslim), the Hindoo (Hindu), and infidel of every denomination,” Jefferson wrote.
It is widely accepted among historians that Muslims were among some of the first people to sail to the continent, with roots dating back to the early 16th century, if not earlier.
Challenged by the TV station’s interviewer, Phillips was asked why he was targeting Islam specifically as opposed to other non-Christian faiths. The GOP candidate responded with a conspiracy theory that Muslims in America were against democracy and out to see its ruin.
CAIR’s Robert McCaw called his views “anti-American”, adding that the “constitution must protect Americans of all faiths”.
“The kind of hatred and anti-American views promoted by Mr. Phillips places in danger both constitutional protections of religious freedom and the safety of ordinary American Muslims.”

Following Phillips’ TV appearance, the Des Moines Register reached out to the candidate, who doubled-down on his comments, telling the newspaper that he believes Muslims had become increasingly involved in US politics as part of a plan to “disassemble our constitution”.
Phillips pointed to the first two Muslim women in Congress, Democratic US Representatives Rashida Tlaib and Ilhan Omar, as examples of his conspiracy.
Phillips brought up and attacked both congresswomen in Monday’s televised interview as well, claiming that to win her election, “they” brought 70,000 Somalis to Omar’s district to vote for her.
Throughout her term, Omar has been threatened with death threats over such rhetoric, particularly last year after US President Donald Trump posted a highly edited video of the congresswoman, which made it seem as if Omar supported and downplayed the 9/11 attacks.
Phillips is one of five candidates running in the Republican primary for the seat in Iowa’s second district, as the Democrat currently holding the position plans to retire at the end of his term.
An Iowa native and Marine Corps veteran, Phillips retired after working for several years as a vacuum cleaner repairman and salesman, according to local media.
In 1996, he ran unsuccessfully for a House seat and in 2004, he lost a bid for a County Sheriff position. In 2010, he attempted unsuccessfully to get on the ballot in the governor’s race as part of the Constitution Party of Iowa.”
Frenchman Freaks Out During Jet Fighter Joyride, Accidentally Ejects Himself at 2,500 Feet
He did not feel the need — the need for speed.
A 64-year-old man inadvertently ejected from a fighter plane during a terrifying joyride his colleagues thought he’d enjoy, according to CNN.
The unidentified man never expressed interest in flying in a supersonic jet and had no military experience, but the report said his co-workers erroneously figured he might like rushing through the clouds in a Dassault Rafale B aircraft, which reaches speeds of nearly 900 miles an hour.
With the jet already at 2,500 feet above Earth, its pilot continued to elevate, further frightening the older passenger. The fear factor reached its apex when the sexagenarian reached for something to hold onto, unwittingly activated his ejector seat and was launched out of the jet and into the clear blue sky.
The unsuspecting Frenchman’s ill-adjusted helmet flew from his head as the terrified man soared even higher before a parachute was activated, bringing him safely back to earth in a field near the German border.
He was taken to a hospital for evaluation. The pilot suffered minor facial injuries reportedly caused by his passenger’s ejection.
A setting on the nervous passenger’s wristwatch reportedly indicated his heart was racing when he first reached the airfield, but he decided to be a sport and go through with the seemingly safe adventure. The Register reports that the flight was a retirement present for the pensioner, who was employed by a defense contractor.

“Protesters blocking the M4 highway in north-west Syria were dispersed by Turkish riot police yesterday. The incident revealed growing splits between major groups opposing the joint Russian-Turkish patrols.
Footage of the incident shows dozens of Syrians participating in a sit-in on the strategic highway linking the key cities of Saraqeb and Latakia. Their intention was to show their dissatisfaction at having Russian forces in the area.
Instead of deploying their troops, the Turks sent police officers to break up the protest. As they did so, however, the prominent militant umbrella group Hayat Tahrir Al-Sham (HTS) detained members of Turkish-backed opposition groups, causing friction within the opposition forces.
An anonymous commander from a targeted opposition group told the London-based Middle East Eye that, “The tension escalated due to HTS’s arrest of Lieutenant Ramadan Al-Dayoub with his brother and about 10 members of Faylaq Al-Sham.” He added that his group immediately retaliated and “about 10 members of HTS have been arrested.” Both of the factions released the detainees overnight.

Despite the warnings the US National Institute of Health (NIH) awarded a $3.7 million grant to the Wuhan lab studying the bat virus. This was after State Department warned about the risky tests going on in the lab.

The deadly China coronavirus that started in China sometime in late 2019 has now circled the globe. Evidence suggests that the coronavirus didn’t come naturally. We still don’t know whether the deadly virus was leaked intentionally or if it was an accident.
But we do know that the Chinese did attempt to market a cure for the coronavirus to the world in January after the virus began to spread.
According to the report from Wuhan the coronavirus came from either the Wuhan Center for Disease Control and Prevention or Wuhan Institute of Virology in Wuhan, China.
These reports linking bats to the coronavirus started making the rounds back in January. A research paper published in the Wuhan Centre for Disease Control and Prevention determined the source of the coronavirus is a laboratory near the Seafood Market in Wuhan.
On Monday The Gateway Pundit reported that the China coronavirus has connections to former leader of the Chinese Communist Party, Jiang Zemin. For starters, Jiang is the grandfather of Jiang Zhicheng, who has a controlling interest in WuXi AppTec, which controls Fosun Pharma.

And now we know that US officials took several trips to Wuhan and the NIH under Dr. Fauci gave the China Wuhan lab a nearly $4 million grant.

A Chinese laboratory at the center of new theories about how the coronavirus pandemic started was the subject of multiple urgent warnings inside the U.S. State Department two years ago, according to a new report.
U.S. Embassy officials warned in January 2018 about inadequate safety at the Wuhan Institute of Virology lab and passed on information about scientists conducting risky research on coronavirus from bats, The Washington Post reported Tuesday.
Those cables have renewed speculation inside the U.S. government about whether Wuhan-based labs were the source of the novel coronavirus, although no firm connection has been established. The theory, however, has gained traction in recent days.
The United Kingdom has said that the idea that the virus, which has turned into a full-blown global pandemic, was leaked from a Wuhan lab is “no longer being discounted.”

“An Egyptian policeman and seven suspected militants were killed on Tuesday in an exchange of gunfire, the ministry of interior said in a statement late on Tuesday.
It said three other policemen had also been wounded.
The exchange took place in the al-Amiyira district, the public prosecutor said in a statement.
The ministry received information “that there is a terrorist cell, whose elements embrace Takfiri ideology, using several areas as a shelter in eastern and southern Cairo as a starting point to carry out terrorist operations,” the statement said.
Egypt uses the term takfiri to refer to Islamist militants who often accuse their victims of being infidels.
Two private television stations broadcast what they called footage of the shooting, which Reuters was not immediately able to verify, and asked residents to stay indoors.
Weapons and ammunition were found with the suspects, the ministry said.
The public prosecutor said a team of investigators has been despatched to the scene of the attack.
Egypt has been fighting an Islamist insurgency in the northern part of the Sinai Peninsula since the ouster of Mohamed Mursi of the Muslim Brotherhood in 2013 following mass protests against his rule.
The military and police launched a major campaign against militant groups in 2018, focusing on the Sinai Peninsula as well as southern areas and the border with Libya.
The last major attack was in November 2017 when militants killed more than 300 people in an attack on a mosque in north Sinai, the deadliest such incident in the Arab world’s most populous country.”

“Maltese Foreign Minister Evarist Bartolo, in a letter to EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell, called for “urgent action in Libya, including aid to avoid a humanitarian disaster, because the situation has further worsened due to COVID-19 and the ongoing civil war”.
In the letter, Bartolo said there are 650,000 people waiting to leave Libyan coasts.
A European Commission spokesperson confirmed that the letter had been received and “will be evaluated”.
“The situation in Libya is always present in the thoughts of EU high representative Josep Borrell,” the spokesperson said, recalling the launch of Operation IRINI. In the letter, Bartolo called on the European Union to immediately launch a humanitarian mission in Libya in order to slow the illegal migrant flow during the coronavirus pandemic. Bartolo proposed that the European mission could distribute food and medical aid totaling at least 100 million euros. He estimated that “more than 650,000 people are waiting to depart Libyan coasts to reach Europe, while the departure rate is speeding up due to the conflict, illness, and lack of basic necessities”. He said delivering aid to Libya, and not countries in sub-Saharan Africa that migrants depart from, is “the most rapid way to alleviate and minimise the difficult circumstances in which they are living”.
