Iraq: 3 soldiers killed by bombing in Kirkuk

“Three Iraqi soldiers were killed on Friday by a bombing targeting a military patrol vehicle that was passing through the northern Governorate of Kirkuk.
Kirkuk military operations commander, Lieutenant General Saad Harbiyeh, announced in a statement to Anadolu Agency that a bombing targeted a military patrol vehicle that was passing near the town of Sarkaran in the Dibis District, northwest of the governorate.
Harbiyeh indicated that terrorist group Daesh had detonated a bomb, which they had earlier placed on the road, while the army vehicle was passing through.
He explained that the bombing killed three soldiers and injured two others, and that Daesh fighters subsequently launched an operation in the area…”
Libya: GNA shoots down 3 Sukhoi fighters belonging to Haftar

“The forces of the internationally-recognised Libyan Government of National Accord (GNA) shot down three Sukhoi fighters belonging to Haftar’s forces on Friday, reported Anadolu Agency.
According to Anadolu Agency, the GNA forces also destroyed several vehicles and heavy weapons, during the operation that was launched about a week ago.
The sources revealed that three Sukhoi-22 warplanes were shot down.
They also indicated that several tanks, artillery, armoured vehicles, heavy weapons and sites belonging to Haftar’s militia were also targeted.
On Thursday, the GNA forces announced the destruction of three fuel tankers that were on their way to supply Haftar’s forces, in the south of the capital, Tripoli…”
COVID-19: Global Media Feature Prophet Muhammad’s Hygiene Teachings

“While the world is still struggling to control the COVID-19 pandemic, international media are turning to some of Prophet Muhammad’s fundamental teachings for hygiene and health.
Frequent handwashing, self-isolation, and avoiding physical contact, which are now recommended as preventive measures against the coronavirus, are some of the core principles of Islam.
“Prophet Muhammad’s Incredible Tips for Surviving a Pandemic” is the title of an article published by Spanish newspaper ABC on Friday, April 3.
The publication presents recurring recommendations from health experts to prevent the COVID-19 spread and compares them to early Islamic teachings by Prophet Muhammad.
“It is incredible to think that, 1,300 years ago, an illiterate … without any scientific training already knew, step by step, what to do during a pandemic. [His] name was Muhammad, he founded Islam and reflected … his recommendations to avoid the pandemic,” reads the article.
In another article published by American magazine Newsweek on March 17, American scholar Craig Considine presents and explains the commandments of Prophet Muhammad to avoid contagion.
“While he is by no means a ‘traditional’ expert on matters of deadly diseases, Muhammad nonetheless had sound advice to prevent and combat a development like COVID-19,” reads the article’s introduction.
“If you hear of an outbreak of plague in a land, do not enter it; but if the plague breaks out in a place while you are in it, do not leave that place,” Considine quoted Prophet Muhammad as saying, arguing that the Hadith (prophet’s saying) represents one of the earliest forms of quarantine.
Cleanliness and hygiene are also fundamental in Islamic rituals, recalled the scholar, explaining how Muslims have to perform ablution several times a day before praying.
Considine quoted another Hadith: “Cleanliness is part of faith.”
In the final lines of his text, Considine criticizes those who believe their faith and prayers are enough to protect them from diseases.
Prophet Muhammad always encouraged people to seek medical treatment and medication, argued the professor, citing the Hadith: “Make use of medical treatment, for God has not made a disease without appointing a remedy for it, with the exception of one disease–old age.”
Prophet Muhammad “hoped people would use their common sense,” concluded Considine.”
Pakistan gives stranded Afghans four-day window to leave

“At the special request of Afghanistan government, Pakistan has decided to allow the exit of Afghan nationals, wishing to go back to their country.
“The Torkham and Chaman land border crossings will be opened for a specific period from April 6 to April 9 to facilitate Afghan nationals,” a statement issued by the Foreign Office said on Saturday.
The statement noted that that as a neighbour and in view of fraternal bilateral relations, Pakistan remains in abiding solidarity with the people of Afghanistan, particularly at this time of global pandemic.
Pakistan had sealed its borders both with Iran and Afghanistan earlier this month as part of its measures to control the spread of coronavirus. The government, however, later allowed the movement of goods at Chaman border.
Pakistan currently hosts around 2.8 million both documented and undocumented Afghan refugees. Besides that, there are thousands of others who shuttle between the two countries.
It is believed that many Afghans, who visited Pakistan due to business or other reasons, remained stuck in the country due to border closure in the wake of coronavirus outbreak.
The temporary opening of the border will allow those Afghans to return to their country.”

“Upon the demand of Kosovo education ministry, we will be in touch with our kin in Kosovo. Through Education Information Network (EBA) and Turkey’s public broadcaster TRT, we have decided to use our distance learning system in Kosovo, as part of the Turkish language education systems we already have there,” Selçuk said on Twitter.
The EBA was developed in Turkey after the country switched to distance learning for middle and high schools as part of measures to halt the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.”

FOX News – China joins UN Human Rights Council panel despite troubling record, response to coronavirus
China has been appointed to a panel on the controversial U.N. Human Rights Council, where it will help vet candidates for important posts — despite its decades-long record of systematic human rights abuse that the U.S. has said fueled the coronavirus pandemic.
Jiang Duan, minister at the Chinese Mission in Geneva, was appointed to the U.N. Human Rights Council’s Consultative Group — where he will serve as the representative of the Asia-Pacific states. He will serve as one of five representatives for blocs of countries and is joined by delegates from Spain, Slovenia and Chad.
China has been criticized over the way it handled the coronavirus outbreak, with the U.S. and others accusing the communist country of a secretive approach that punished doctors, threw out reporters, suppressed information and ultimately downplayed the seriousness of the virus — leaving the world blindsided and unable to adequately respond to what later became a global pandemic.
“It could have been contained to that one area in China where it started,” President Trump, who has called the virus the “Chinese virus,” said at a press briefing last month. “And certainly the world is paying a big price for what they did.”
U.N. Watch, a Geneva-based human rights watchdog, first reported the development in Geneva, and reacted furiously to the move, saying it was “absurd and immoral” for the U.N. to allow the Chinese regime a key role in selecting human rights officials.
“Allowing China’s oppressive and inhumane regime to choose the world investigators on freedom of speech, arbitrary detention and enforced disappearances is like making a pyromaniac into the town fire chief,” said Hillel Neuer, U.N. Watch’s Executive Director said.
The body said that China will now play a central role in picking at least 17 human rights investigators, including those looking at freedom of speech, enforced disappearance and arbitrary detention — all rights that the Chinese regime is said to have violated.
The Human Rights Council too has come under intense scrutiny for its membership. The U.S. left the council in 2018. Then-U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley called it “a protector of human rights abusers, and a cesspool of political bias.”
It came under fresh criticism last year when Venezuela, a country plagued by poverty and mass human rights abuses under the regime of dictator Nicolas Maduro, was elected to the Council.
The country took its seat on the body earlier this year, along with other controversial picks such as Sudan and Libya.
