Rubio: Coronavirus lays bare China’s power over public health and the economy
Republican Sen. Marco Rubio warns of the risk posed by China’s control of the drug market and explains what can be done on ‘Fox & Friends.’
Now that the number of new people infected with the coronavirus in China is slowing down, the country’s Communist Party is ratcheting up threats against the West, with a particularly nasty warning about access to life-saving drugs aimed at the United States.
In an article in Xinhua, the state-run media agency that’s largely considered the mouthpiece of the party, Beijing bragged about its handling of COVID-19, a virus that originated in the city of Wuhan and has spread quickly around the world, killing nearly 5,000 people and infecting thousands more. The article also claimed that China could impose pharmaceutical export controls which would plunge America into “the mighty sea of coronavirus.”

Project Proves It Is Not Fit For Schools
The New York Times has finally admitted a key error in the 1619 Project. It disqualifies it from use in our schools.
March 13, 2020 By David Marcus
After months of criticism from historians all over the political spectrum, the New York Times is finally admitting a fatal flaw to their 1619 Project. A central essay in the project, written by Nikole Hannah-Jones, underwent a major correction this week. Only two words were changed, but they were big words. And given how much they change the underlying argument, the correction shows this project should not be used as a teaching tool in our schools.
In a tweet Hannah-Jones says that sometimes journalists (note she did not say historians) trying to “summarize” and “streamline” can lose important context. So what was the context lost here? In the original she said that maintaining slavery was a primary motivation of colonists in revolting against England. That was one of the most bashed claims in the whole project. Now it reads, that it was a primary motivation for “some of” the colonists.

17 Diseases Named After Places Or People
March 13, 2020 By Tristan Justice
While liberals and woke media elites obsess over calling Republicans racist for using the term “Wuhan virus,” the practice of naming a new disease after a population or the site of its first major outbreak is actually pretty common. In fact, pundits used the term widely to identify the origins of the epidemic.

Pelosi Uses Virus Bill to Spread Abortion
March 13, 2020
By Tony Perkins
Congress’s coronavirus bill was supposed to be about saving lives — not taking them! But tell that to Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), who doesn’t seem to mind exploiting a global tragedy to help out her pals at Planned Parenthood. Turns out, while Democrats are bashing the president for not working fast enough, they’re bogging down the debate with secret language on abortion.
The revelations shouldn’t have caught anyone by surprise, but when a White House official broke the news that Pelosi tried to bury taxpayer-funded abortion in the stimulus bill, even MSNBC was stunned. Openly liberal host Joy Reid didn’t hold back her amazement, tweeting, “Wow… @kasie just reported that Republicans’ objections to the House Democrats’ emergency coronavirus bill include issues related to abortion. What does that have to do with COVID19…?”
Absolutely nothing, which is why so many Republicans — including the president — were so frustrated. Asked if he supported Pelosi’s first proposal, the president didn’t mince words. “No,” he fired back, “because there are things that are in there that have nothing to do with what we are talking about.” The original 124-pager wasn’t serious, he said. This crisis is not the time “for them to get some of the goodies that they haven’t been able to get for the past 25 years.” Not only is blowing a hole in the Hyde amendment the surest way to stop progress, it’s also the best way to out themselves as hypocrites. “Pelosi wanted to sneak in a billion dollars in funding for abortion programs through the coronavirus stimulus package. Don’t ever tell me the Democrats aren’t politicizing this situation,” Human Rights editor Ian Cheong argued.

Coronavirus Declared Pandemic: World Health Organization | Hong Kong Memorial
note: video at link. This is what Donald Trump Jr. shared with his Instagram followers
I normally wouldn’t post something like this, but given the fact that members of the Chinese foreign ministry are literally now trying to blame the Wuhan coronavirus on America it’s probably time to acknowledge the truth. Those in the media and the Democratic Party who think that the Chinese are going to be honest dealers in anything haven’t been watching for the last few decades or they’re on China’s payroll (like Hunter Biden). Perhaps both. This is why it’s so important for us to have our own manufacturing our own supply chains (like @realdonaldtrump and MAGA has always called for) and not be entirely dependent on bad dealers who have no interest in being good neighbors, but simply want world domination for themselves. Don’t believe me? Just ask yourself why the Chinese government would not let the worlds foremost expert in infectious disease control from the CDC into their country to help just weeks ago. If you think they’re dealing in good faith you’re an imbecile. Also ask why the US media is running with China’s propaganda talking points. #wuhan #virus

Iran Warns Trump over ‘Dangerous Actions’ after Iraq Airstrikes
https://aawsat.com/english/home/article/2178121/iran-warns-trump-over-dangerous-actions-after-iraq-airstrikes
“Tehran on Friday warned US President Donald Trump against taking “dangerous actions” after American forces waged a series of airstrikes against an Iran-backed militia in Iraq that it blamed for a major rocket attack a day earlier.
“Instead of dangerous actions and baseless accusations, Mr. Trump should reconsider the presence and behavior of his troops in the area,” foreign ministry spokesman Abbas Mousavi said in a statement, hours after the US strikes.
The Pentagon said that the strikes appeared limited in scope and narrowly tailored, targeting five weapons storage facilities used by Kataib Hezbollah militants, including stores of weaponry for past attacks on US-led coalition troops.
In a statement, Iraq’s military said the US airstrikes hit four locations in Iraq that housed formal Iraqi police and military units, in addition to the paramilitary groups.
Three Iraqi army soldiers were killed and four wounded, police in Babel province said in a statement. Five paramilitary fighters and one policeman were also injured, they said, adding that the fate of two more policemen was unknown.
One strike hit an Iraqi civilian airport under construction in Kerbala and killed a worker, Iraqi religious authorities said on Friday.
The US military did not estimate how many people in Iraq may have been killed in the strikes, which officials said were carried out by piloted aircraft.
In a sign of concern that tension between the United States and Iran could be headed toward open conflict, the Democratic-led US House of Representatives passed legislation on Wednesday to limit Trump’s ability to wage war against Iran.
The Republican president has been engaged in a maximum-pressure campaign of renewed sanctions and near-constant rhetoric against Iran, after pulling the United States out of the international nuclear deal struck under his Democratic predecessor, Barack Obama.
Tensions between Washington and Tehran have mostly played out on Iraqi soil in recent months.”
Gulf Countries Take More Precautions as New Virus Cases Reported
https://aawsat.com/english/home/article/2178296/gulf-countries-take-more-precautions-new-virus-cases-reported
“Saudi Arabia reported on Friday 24 additional coronavirus cases, 11 of whom were Egyptians.
This brings the total of cases detected in the Kingdom to 86, the health ministry announced.
Saudi Arabia suspended on Thursday all social gatherings in wedding halls and hotels over coronavirus fears, SPA quoted a source in the Interior Ministry as saying.
It also suspended the counting phase of the 2020 general census until further notice because of the outbreak, the General Authority of Statistics said in a statement on Friday.
More than 700 infections have been reported to Friday in the Gulf states. No deaths have been announced so far. Authorities say most of those infected had traveled to Iran, the regional epicenter of the outbreak, or been in contact with returnees.
Kuwait’s religious authorities had asked Muslims to pray at home on Friday as the emirate prepares to enter a period of virtual lockdown to fight the spread of the virus.
“The doors of the mosques will stay closed,” said the ministry of religious endowment in a statement, citing a religious decree. “The fatwa removes the need to attend prayers on Friday in mosques, and authorizes having them at home, to protect the people from coronavirus.”
Kuwait confirmed 20 new cases in the past 24 hours, reporting a total of 100 to Friday, state news agency KUNA said.
The government announced on Wednesday that passenger flights will be cancelled for an undetermined period from midnight on Friday to and from Kuwait’s only international airport.
The measures also provide for a two-week public holiday, ending on March 29, and the closure of gyms, public gardens and the popular Friday market. Restaurants and coffee shops are only allowed to keep delivery services open.
Vital services, including oil production, are excluded from the ruling. Kuwait National Petroleum said on Friday strategic reserves of oil products were at a “safe” level and all measures taken to deal with emergencies.
Bahrain ordered the release of hundreds of prisoners on Thursday, according to the Bahrain Institute for Rights and Democracy which linked the decision to efforts to contain the virus.
King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa issued a decree granting pardon for 901 prisoners. A further 585 prisoners will spend the remainder of their sentences in rehabilitation and training programs, the state-run Bahrain news agency reported.
Qatar shut down all cinemas, theaters, museums, children’s play areas, gyms and wedding halls overnight.
Qatar has 262 cases, Bahrain 195 and the United Arab Emirates 85.
In the UAE capital Abu Dhabi, Etihad Airways announced the suspension of flights to and from Rome and Milan, from March 14.
Dubai-based Emirates also suspended until further notice all flights to and from Italy, except Rome.
The death toll in Italy passed 1,000, in Europe’s deadliest outbreak.”
Bosnia Charges Two Men With Terrorism for Joining ISIS
https://aawsat.com/english/home/article/2178566/bosnia-charges-two-men-terrorism-joining-isis
“Two Bosnian men were charged with terrorism offenses on Friday, over accusations they fought for ISIS in Syria, the Bosnian state prosecutor’s office said.
The men were part of a group of seven flown back to Bosnia from Syria in December, along with 18 women and children.
Jasmin Keserovi?, 26, from the central town of Zavidovici, and Senad Kasupovic, 40, from the northwestern village of Grabovac, were accused of organizing a terrorist group, the prosecutor’s office said in a statement.
Keserovic, who used the name “Muhamed” and spent nearly seven years fighting in Syria, was also charged with inciting others to take part in terrorist activities, the statement added.
“The defendant is also accused that during his stay in Syria, wearing uniform and armed with an automatic rifle, he recorded and distributed on the internet a video in which he personally called for the killings of Christians,” the office said.
A third member of the group was charged on Thursday with taking part in terrorist activities.
Bosnia’s state court has tried and convicted 46 people who have returned from Syria or Iraq over the past few years.
According to Bosnian intelligence, 241 adults and 80 children left Bosnia or the Bosnian diaspora from 2012-2016 for Syria and Iraq.”
Coronavirus: Islamic State group issues advice to followers
https://www.middleeasteye.net/news/coronavirus-islamic-state-group-issues-advice-followers
“The Islamic State group has issued guidelines to its followers on how to deal with the coronavirus and avoid spreading the infection.
In the latest issue of its al-Naba newsletter, the militant group issued a set of “Sharia directives to deal with epidemics” and cited a number of hadiths (recounted sayings of the Prophet Muhammad) to justify tackling the epidemic.
The group advises “followers to cover the mouth when yawning and sneezing”, citing that Muhammad “would place his hand or clothing on his mouth when he sneezed, and in this way reduced or diminished his voice”.
The group also encouraged hand-washing and said that the “healthy should not enter the land of the epidemic and the afflicted should not exit from it”.
“On the authority of A’isha (may God be pleased with her): she said: I asked the Messenger of God (SAWS) about the plague so he informed me that it is a ‘torment sent by God on whomsoever He wills, and God has made it a mercy for the believers.
Whosoever dwells in his land patient and awaiting as the plague falls, knowing that it will only strike the one for whom God has decreed, for that person is the likes of the reward of a martyr.'”
The statement also called for its followers to “put trust in God and seek refuge in Him from illnesses” and points out that “illnesses do not strike by themselves but by the command and decree of God”.
IS has been reduced to a shadow of its former self in the Middle East in recent years, after major defeats in Iraq and Syria.
The group still maintains a strong presence in Africa and Asia, however, and last week claimed an attack in the Afghan capital Kabul that killed dozens of people.
The impact of the group’s rule has been devastating, with mass graves still regularly uncovered across Syria and Iraq.
Despite the group’s apparent newfound concern for hygiene, doctors have warned that the environmental impact of the group’s rule has resulted in the spread of chronic illnesses across Iraq and Syria.”
Arabic press review: Egypt helping Kurdish-led troops in Syria fighting Turkish forces
https://www.middleeasteye.net/news/arabic-press-review-egypt-coordinating-support-kurdish-led-troops-syria
“Egypt has opened a communication channel between the government of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and his main Kurdish opposition militant group in a bid to confront the Turkish role in northern Syria, a report by the London-based Al-Araby Al-Jadeed newspaper said on Friday.
According to unnamed Egyptian sources, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Saudi Arabia have provided “major military assistance” to the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) to aide them in their battle against Turkish troops in northeastern Syria.
The sources added that the SDF received significant financial support from both the UAE and Saudi Arabia with Egyptian coordination.
The paper earlier revealed that the Egyptian government had been providing political support to the SDF, such as opening a diplomatic office and a TV channel for them in Cairo.
As part of the coordination between Egypt, its Gulf allies and the Syrian government, nearly 3,000 Syrian fighters are due to join the battles in Libya, the newspaper said, without specifying whether they belonged to the Syrian army.
The transfer of Syrian troops will take place “after an expanded agreement between the Syrian regime and militia commander in eastern Libya, retired Major General Khalifa Haftar and Cairo”, according to the paper.
“They will be airlifted to Egypt, and then will enter Libya via the Egyptian-Libyan land borders,” the report said.”

Egypt’s Minister of Endowments: ‘Muslim Brotherhood spreads coronavirus’, sparking wave of mockery
https://www.middleeastmonitor.com/20200313-egypts-minister-of-endowments-muslim-brotherhood-spreads-coronavirus-sparking-wave-of-mockery/
“Activists set several examples of similar accusations made against the Muslim Brotherhood, including blocking rain drains, increasing the prices of lemons and vegetables and causing the baby boom
The Egyptian Minister of Endowments has sparked widespread controversy after he claimed that the Muslim Brotherhood is seeking to spread the coronavirus among members of the army, the police, the judiciary and media figures.
The story began two days ago when the Minister of Endowments, Muhammad Mukhtar Juma, stated that “the Muslim Brotherhood’s affiliates have lost their mental balance, and reached unprecedented levels of criminality beyond all human perceptions, and became a global threat. We call on the whole world to recognize the Brotherhood’s disturbing truth, as some of its criminal elements call for spreading the coronavirus among innocent people.”
Juma said in a statement published on the official website of the ministry: “Some members of the stray organization called on their colleagues who have been infected with coronavirus to spread it among members of the army, police, judiciary, and media figures as well as to the rest of the innocent citizens, which reflects the Brotherhood’s extreme state of mental, psychological and human imbalance.”
The statement was warmly received in the House of Representatives, as Mahmoud Hussein, representative of Parliament’s Youth and Sports Committee, announced his support for Juma’s statement saying: “We all need to have a role in communicating these important and urgent messages delivered by the Minister of Endowment to the whole world. The international terrorist organization of the Muslim Brotherhood poses an imminent threat to international peace and security.”
Despite the wave of criticism sparked by Juma’s statements, he insisted on expressing the same position, while issuing another report on Wednesday evening via the official website of the ministry, in which he said: “In response to the calls made by some elements of the terrorist Muslim Brotherhood to spread the coronavirus among all those whom they see as enemies or opponents, whoever deliberately transmits a lethal disease such as HIV, or any other deadly virus that leads to the death of another person, shall be deemed as a murderer.”
Juma’s statement sparked widespread controversy among activists, who emphasized that the accusation of the Muslim Brotherhood of spreading the coronavirus, which has been classified by the World Health Organization (WHO) as a global epidemic, reflects the accuser’s impaired sense of judgment and lack of logical reasoning.
Activists also pointed out that the ruling military regime in Egypt has always resorted, whenever it fails to contain a disaster, to accusing the Muslim Brotherhood of conspiring against the state, which prompted all segments of the Egyptian society to believe that Al-Sisi’s regime is using the Brotherhood as a pretext to cover its failures. They added that this pattern of behaviour confirms the seriousness of the virus’s spread in the country and the regime’s inability to handle the crisis.
Activists cited several examples of similar accusations made against the Muslim Brotherhood, including blocking rain drains, increasing the prices of lemons and vegetables, and causing the baby boom; in addition to having something to do with the fluctuation of Egyptian Pound’s price against the Dollar, the defeat of the national football team in the African Nations Championship, spreading hope, spreading pessimism, firing 3 million employees under the pretext of having ties with the Muslim Brotherhood, causing the national football team’s setback at the World Cup in Russia … and the last of which was spreading the coronavirus.””

Iraqi cleric Muqtada al-Sadr would reject any coronavirus vaccine made by ‘infidel’ America
https://www.alaraby.co.uk/english/news/2020/3/12/muqtada-al-sadr-rejects-us-produced-infidel-coronavirus-vaccine
“Iraqi cleric Muqtada al-Sadr has been mocked online after tweeting he would not accept any coronavirus cure made by the “infidel” United States, as the outbreak’s death toll continues to mount.
The influential Shia leader posted on Wednesday addressing US President Trump, blaming him for the spread of the disease and accusing the US of having the most coronavirus cases.
“Trump, you have filled the world with wars, occupations and poverty, and now you claim that you are the healer.. But this disease is spreading because of your awful policies,” his statement said.
He said that he does not want any medicine from Trump because he is an “infidel”, adding that he and his supporters rely solely on God for the treatment of diseases.
Social media users slammed the tweet, accusing Sadr of hypocrisy, as US-made drugs are widely used in Iraq.
Others called on Sadr to cooperate with the rest of the world in order to tackle the coronavirus pandemic, that risks turning into a humanitarian crisis if it spreads widely in Iraq…”
Ahead of mosque attack anniversary, Twitter targets online polarizations
https://www.reuters.com/article/us-newzealand-shooting-twitter/ahead-of-mosque-attack-anniversary-twitter-targets-online-polarizations-idUSKBN2103I6
“Twitter Inc said it was looking at ways of countering polarizations on its platform, as it launched a new project ahead of the one-year anniversary of the mass shooting at mosques in New Zealand.
The plans were announced this week as New Zealand prepares for a memorial of the attack in Christchurch on March 15 last year, in which 51 people were killed when a gunman attacked Muslims attending Friday prayers, broadcasting the shooting live on Facebook.
The attack inspired more online hate and polarizations, experts have said.
Twitter would partner with the University of Otago’s National Center for Peace and Conflict Studies in the project that looks at ways to counter “digitally amplified polarizations”, the social media firm said in a statement this week.
By looking at Twitter data before, during, and after the attack the research will study how conversations can be used to “to promote tolerance and inclusion instead of division and exclusion,” it said.
Twitter and other tech firms like Facebook and YouTube signed up last year to a global initiative called “Christchurch Call” launched by New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern that aimed to bring together governments and companies to eradicate extremist material being shared online…”
Turkey launches new anti-terrorist operation in east
https://www.hurriyetdailynews.com/turkey-launches-new-anti-terrorist-operation-in-east-152954
“With over 1,000 personnel, Turkey has launched a new anti-terror operation in three eastern provinces, the Interior Ministry announced on March 13.
In a statement, the ministry said Operation Trap-8 Mt. Ararat-Çemce-Madur aims to neutralize all terrorists hiding out in the regions of Mt. A?r? (Ararat), Cemce, and Madur located in the eastern provinces of A?r?, Kars, I?d?r.
Some 62 operational teams from Gendarmerie Special Operation, Police Special Forces, and security units were established for the operation.
The statement did not mention specific groups, but the terrorist PKK has been active in eastern Turkey.
Turkey’s operations against terrorists within the country continue determinedly and successfully with the support of the public, the statement added.
Last August, Turkey launched Operation K?ran in the country’s southeastern Van, Hakkari and ??rnak provinces, followed by 10 more iterations of the operation.”
Turkey ‘neutralizes’ 2 YPG/PKK terrorists in N. Syria
https://www.aa.com.tr/en/middle-east/turkey-neutralizes-2-ypg-pkk-terrorists-in-n-syria/1765196
“The Turkish army “neutralized” two YPG/PKK terrorists in northern Syrian territories, the National Defense Ministry said on Friday.
In a Twitter post, the ministry said two PKK/YPG terrorists, who were found plotting attacks on Turkish troops in the Operation Peace Spring area were “neutralized.”
Turkish authorities generally use the word “neutralized” to imply the terrorists in question surrendered or were killed or captured.
The ministry also stressed that Turkey’s anti-terror operations in the region will continue without interruption.
Since 2016, Turkey has launched a trio of successful anti-terrorist operations across its border into northern Syria to prevent the formation of a terror corridor and enable peaceful settlement by locals: Euphrates Shield (2016), Olive Branch (2018), and Peace Spring (2019).
In its more than 30-year terror campaign against Turkey, the PKK — listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S. and the European Union — has been responsible for the deaths of 40,000 people, including women, children, and infants. The YPG is the PKK’s Syrian offshoot.”
Turkey neutralizes 286 YPG/PKK terrorists in past month

“The Turkish army “neutralized” 286 YPG/PKK terrorists in the past month in domestic and cross-border operations, the National Defense Ministry said Friday.
Turkish authorities use the word “neutralized” to imply the terrorists in question surrendered or were killed or captured.
Of them, 155 terrorists were neutralized in northern Syria, ministry spokeswoman Nadide Sebnem Aktop told reporters in the capital Ankara.
The spokeswoman said 37 terrorists were attempting to enter the Operation Euphrates Shield region from Syria’s Manbij city and seven others the Operation Olive Branch region from Syria’s Tal Rifat. They were neutralized.
Turkey launched a trio of successful anti-terrorist operations across its border into northern Syria to prevent the formation of a terror corridor and enable peaceful settlement by locals: Euphrates Shield (2016), Olive Branch (2018), and Peace Spring (2019).
Its latest Operation Spring Shield is ongoing in Idlib, Syria’s restive province, with the aim to protect civilians.
In its more than 30-year terror campaign against Turkey, the PKK — listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S. and the European Union — has been responsible for the deaths of 40,000 people, including women, children, and infants. The YPG is the PKK’s Syrian offshoot.
FETO dismissals
Since 2016, 19,075 military employees have been dismissed over links to Fetullah Terrorist Organization (FETO), the group behind the defeated coup in Turkey, she said.
The trial for 5,181 others continues.
Fetullah Gulen, the terrorist group’s fugitive ringleader, is also named among the defendants.
FETO and its U.S.-based head orchestrated the defeated coup of July 15, 2016, which left 251 people martyred and nearly 2,200 injured.
Ankara also accuses FETO of being behind a long-running campaign to overthrow the state through the infiltration of Turkish institutions, particularly the military, police, and judiciary.”
Turkey slams US rights report over ‘vague allegations’
https://www.aa.com.tr/en/americas/turkey-slams-us-rights-report-over-vague-allegations-/1765062
“Turkey on Friday slammed a recent U.S. human rights report, saying it contained “vague allegations and baseless accusations”.
In a statement, the Turkish Foreign Ministry said the Turkey section in the annual report by the Department of State had been prepared “with political motives” and was “far from objectivity”.
With 190 country sections every year, the report for 2019 was published on March 11.
The ministry said that the report referred to the FETO terrorist group as “Gulen movement”, and perpetrators of the 2016 coup attempt were “portrayed as an innocent civil structure”.
FETO and its U.S.-based leader Fetullah Gulen orchestrated the defeated coup of July 15, 2016, which left 251 people martyred and nearly 2,200 injured.
Turkey accuses FETO of a long-running campaign to overthrow the state through the infiltration of Turkish institutions, particularly the military, police, and judiciary.
It said that ignoring ample evidence against the terror group showed that the 2020 report was prepared by elements hostile to Turkey.
The allegations that Turkey’s Peace Spring Operation in Syria targeted civilians “have nothing to do with the facts”, the ministry said.
Ankara announced the operation last October in northwestern Syria to secure its borders by eliminating terror elements and ensure the safe return of Syrian refugees.
Since 2016, Turkey has launched a trio of successful anti-terrorist operations across its border into northern Syria to prevent the formation of a terror corridor and enable peaceful settlement by locals: Euphrates Shield (2016), Olive Branch (2018), and Peace Spring (2019).
The ministry said there was no explanation for the inclusion of such claims, which are not established by independent and credible institutions.”
Hungary’s Orban blames foreigners, migration for coronavirus spread
https://www.france24.com/en/20200313-hungary-s-pm-orban-blames-foreign-students-migration-for-coronavirus-spread
“Hungary’s nationalist Prime Minister Viktor Orban on Friday blamed foreigners and migration for the spread of coronavirus in Hungary, as the authorities announced that two infected Iranians were to be expelled.
Orban, asked during a radio interview why Hungary had closed its universities but not schools in response to the virus outbreak, said it was because “there are lots of foreigners there”.
“Our experience is that primarily foreigners brought in the disease, and that it is spreading among foreigners,” he said.
So far, Hungary has confirmed 19 cases of infections, nine of them Iranians (mostly university scholarship-holders), one British national, and the rest Hungarians.
“It’s no coincidence that the virus first showed up among Iranians,” said Orban.
“We cannot separate the tens of thousands of foreign students from the Hungarian students, that’s why we thought it best to stop all visits to those institutions,” he said.
Interior ministry announces two expulsions
The interior ministry announced Friday that two Iranian students diagnosed with the virus would be expelled because they had left a hospital quarantine hall without permission and with no protective clothing.
They had been aggressive towards the medical staff who placed them in isolation, the statement added. The pair would be expelled as soon as their health permitted and banned from staying in Hungary for three years.
In Hungarian-language messages posted on its Facebook page the government has warned Iranians of detention and deportation if they don’t cooperate with disease control authorities.
Last week after the first infections were confirmed — both Iranian students — Budapest suspended the issuing of visas to Iranian citizens.
Earlier in March Hungary barred the doors indefinitely to its border camps for asylum-seekers as it said refugees and migrants arriving there may have been in virus hotspot Iran.
Government officials and pro-Orban media have also drawn a link between the virus outbreak and migration.
“We are fighting a two-front war, one front is called migration, and the other one belongs to the coronavirus, there is a logical connection between the two, as both spread with movement,” Orban said Friday.”
