Daily Links Post graphic

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

  1. KEEPING AFRICA ON THE BRINK OF STARVATION
In this era of incredible modern agricultural and insect control technologies, when American farmers get 3-5 times more crop yields per acre than 50 years ago – how is it possible that Africa remains perpetually on the brink of starvation? That Africa faces yet another locust plague of biblical pharaoh proportions? That Africans must rely on absurd “time-tested,” almost totally ineffective locust control methods? Incredibly, this looming catastrophe is due to policies and programs that have been officially adopted and deliberately implemented by the very UN agencies that are now crying loudest about the horrific situation. Adding to the insanity, in late January the United Nations claimed it needed “more than $70 million from donors” to address the locust crisis. For 2020, the UN budget is $3.1 billion; the FAO’s is $1 billion; the UNEP’s $790 million; and the Green Climate Fund has some $2 billion, plus pledges of some $6 billion. Surely, these outfits can find a measly $70 million in these bloated treasuries to address a genuine humanitarian crisis – even if they have to claw it away from agroecology and similarly useless programs. And what about the rights of African farmers who don’t want to practice agroecology, who want to use modern seeds, fertilizers, pesticides and machinery? Do the FAO and UN Human Rights Commission support those rights of self-determination? Why isn’t the HRC blasting the NGOs, EU countries and UN agencies for these human rights violations and the misery, malnutrition, disease and death they cause? Agroecology represents eco-imperialism at its worst. Under any fair and balanced application of their own beliefs and standards, today’s “woke” environmental, campus and progressive activists would charge the organizations imposing agroecology on Africa with eco-manslaughter. But that will never happen. Paul Driessen

  2. ROYAL PALACES EMPLOY DRAG QUEENS TO TEACH GAY HISTORY & COUNTER HENRY VIII’s ‘EXTREME HETEROSEXUALITY’
Experts argue that if the spousal brutality of Henry VIII can be taught in schools, then queer stories should have their place in British history. If you can talk about Henry VIII and his relationships, why not talk about romantic relationships between people of the same sex? LGBT tours are planned for Henry VIII’s commandeered residence at Hampton Court, and drag queen story time sessions will take place at Kensington Palace. At the Tower of London, where Anne Boleyn and Catherine Howard met their end, the first ever “drag raven” has already been guiding visitors through lesser known queer tales for LGBT History Month. 3. CHURCH ‘SHOULD LOSE AUTHORITY OVER WEDDINGS’
A key figure in the Church of England has said that it should lose the power to hold legally binding weddings as long as it refuses to conduct gay weddings. The proposal, made this weekend by Anthony Archer, a member of the Crown Nominations Commission (CNC), the bridge between church and state, would remove one of the most important privileges of the national church. Archer said: “The church is dragging its feet on same-sex marriage. My suggestion is that parliament could seriously rattle its cage by threatening to remove the right of clergy to act as registrars.” Nicholas Hellen

  5. There’s global silence on Iran’s conduct in Mideast — Saudi FM
    http://saudigazette.com.sa/article/589677/SAUDI-ARABIA/Theres-global-silence-on-Irans-conduct-in-Mideast-mdash-Saudi-FM

“Minister of Foreign Affairs Prince Faisal Bin Farhan said that there is global silence towards Iran’s conduct in the Middle East on Monday while talking on a wide range of subject, including its adherence to the global agreements on disarmament.

In his speech before the Disarmament Conference here, the minister affirmed “the Kingdom’s abidance by supporting the disarmament efforts in the Mideast.”

He also expressed Riyadh’s concern over “the stalemate facing the functions of the Disarmament Conference.”

The minister mentioned: “Saudi Arabia has signed an international agreement and has made national legislations to activate the efforts of the disarmament program.”

He added: “It is impossible to insult and look down on other religions under the pretext of freedom of opinion.”

The minister drew attention to the fact that the Kingdom has established the National Commission for Implementing the Ban on Chemical and Biological Weapons, to act as a link between the Organization for Banning Chemical Weapons and the pertinent authorities and countries.

It has also set up the Authority for Nuclear and Radiological Monitoring to carry out the agreements related to operating the Kingdom’s National Program for Peace.

He said: “The cowardly attack against the oil facilities in Abqaiq and Khurais in the Kingdom posed a serious threat to the security of global oil supplies. The speedy measures the Kingdom took, led to controlling oil prices and preventing them from rising sharply. This was apart from dealing with the damage to the oil facilities in a record time.”

The minister added: “The challenges that the irresponsible conduct by the Iranian regime have created have led to the appearance of new patterns of threats to global peace and security by supplying terrorist groups with drone technologies for attacking the countries of the region, in a violation of all international norms and laws that forbid all countries from such conduct.”

He further said: “The Iranian regime announcing lowering its implementation of its commitments to the nuclear agreement signed in 2015, targeting specific fields and activities in the nuclear program that will cut the time for Iran to own nuclear weapons, is evidence of the Iranian nuclear program not being for peaceful purposes at all.”

Prince Faisal affirmed the Kingdom’s support for the efforts aiming at disarmament, achieving stability in the region, maintaining global peace and security, and facing the challenges in the region and those facing the countries of the world.

“The Kingdom calls on the international community to shoulder its responsibility toward supporting these efforts and standing shoulder to shoulder in confronting these challenges facing the region in particular and the world in general,” he said.

“Within this sphere, the Kingdom is participating with the rest of the Arab countries in calling for the establishment of a region free from nuclear weapons and all weapons of mass destruction in the Middle East. It also calls on the international community to work on achieving this goal,” he added.”

  6. Israel competes in UAE cycle event for the first time
    https://www.middleeastmonitor.com/20200224-israel-competes-in-uae-cycle-event-for-the-first-time/

“An Israeli cycling team will be taking part in this week’s UAE Tour event for the first time despite there being no formal diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Known as Start-Up Nation, the Israeli team is owned by Canadian-Israeli philanthropist Sylvan Adams and Israeli businessman Ron Baron.

Its team rider competing in the Middle East’s premier cycling race, Rudy Barbier, came third yesterday during the sprint on the opening stage of the UAE Tour.

The UAE Tour continues today with the 168-kilometre second stage to Hatta Dam and will end on Saturday in Abu Dhabi.

For us being in an Arab country, competing as an Israeli team with our Israel Start-Up Nation and with the word ‘Israel’ emblazoned on the front and back of the jersey in big letters, with Israel as our identity – for us this is a really important race on the calendar

    Adams told the Jerusalem Post.

“It’s a historic occasion that an Israeli team will be racing in an Arab country – the first time ever – and we hope to make a diplomatic statement that Israel is a normal country, and normalise relations.”

Throughout recent years, the UAE along with other Gulf Arab states, have been undergoing an increase in relations with Israel, raising concerns among many that they are slowly normalising ties with the Jewish state and side-lining the struggle against the continued occupation of Palestinian territories…”

  7. Minister: Yemen Houthis arrested government officials
    https://www.middleeastmonitor.com/20200224-minister-yemen-houthis-arrested-government-officials/

“Yemen’s Information Minister Muammar Al-Iryani announced on Saturday that the Houthis have carried out a campaign of arrests against civil servants as well as officers at the interior and defence ministries in areas under their control.

“Houthis launched new campaigns of arrest, targeting civil servants, officers at the interior and defence ministries, in addition to officials and members of the General People’s Congress party,” Al-Iryani wrote on Twitter.

He explained that the new campaign of arrests coincides with talks currently taking place in Jordan between representatives of the internationally-backed government and the Houthis to implement the prisoner exchange deal concluded in Sweden.

Al-Iryani called on the United Nations to exert pressure on the Houthis to stop their campaign of arrests and kidnapping.”

  8. Turkish forces arrest Syrian rebels fleeing from Idlib
    https://www.middleeastmonitor.com/20200224-turkish-forces-arrest-syrian-rebels-fleeing-from-idlib/

“The Syrian news agency, SANA, claimed on Sunday that the Turkish army had arrested dozens of rebels as they fled from the fighting in Idlib and headed for Turkey. The arrests were made in the area of Ras Al-Ein to the north west of Al-Hasaka.

SANA is believed to be the only media outlet which reported the news. It explained that the Turks closed the border ahead of the rebels before arresting them.

Turkish forces have fought alongside the Syrian rebels in Idlib against regime forces and their allies. According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, Turkey and the Syrian regime have both built up their military presence in different areas in and around the south of Idlib.

Local sources have also reported that Syrian regime forces bombed bases of Al-Nusra Front in rural areas across southern Idlib.”

  9. Turkey to continue drilling in eastern Mediterranean with UK ship
    https://www.middleeastmonitor.com/20200224-turkey-to-continue-drilling-in-eastern-mediterranean-with-uk-ship/

“Turkey has purchased its third offshore drilling ship which will arrive in the country in the next two weeks, Energy Minister Fatih Donmez said on Monday.

“We ordered a new drilling ship from Britain called Sertao,” Donmez told an energy conference in Istanbul. “We will give it a national name which is not clear now. Turkey awaits delivery of the ship, which is very important to preserve the rights of Turkish Cypriots and Turkey in the eastern Mediterranean.”

Having bought its first two drilling vessels from Norway, Turkey purchased the Sertao at an auction in Britain for much less than its predicted market value of around $120 million. It had lain unsold in Port Talbot, in Wales, for nearly two years after the company which owned it went bankrupt.

According to a Turkish maritime publication, the ship was bought by the state-run Turkish Petroleum Corporation for $37.5 million.

Turkey has been carrying out exploration and drilling activities within the country’s maritime borders in the eastern Mediterranean since last year, using two drilling ships, Fatih and Yavuz.

The Greek government and the Greek Cypriot administration oppose Turkey’s drilling and have threatened to arrest the ships’ crews. The Greeks have enlisted EU leaders to condemn Turkey’s activities in the area as well.

The EU has also repeatedly called on Turkey to give up its claim to a share in the energy resources of the eastern Mediterranean, claiming that its activities are “illegal”. The bloc imposed sanctions on the Republic in July last year over the issue, as well as due to Turkey’s military incursion – Operation Peace Spring – in northern Syria in October.

Turkey has consistently contested the Greek Cypriot administration’s unilateral drilling in the area, asserting that the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus also has rights to the resources according to the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea.

In 1974, following a coup against Greece’s annexation of Cyprus, Turkey intervened as a guarantor power. The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus was founded in 1983.”

  10. Libya: UAE sent 100 arms shipments to Haftar
    https://www.middleeastmonitor.com/20200224-libya-uae-sent-100-arms-shipments-to-haftar/

“The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has dispatched some 100 shipments of weapons to renegade Libyan commander Khalifa Haftar since last month, the internationally recognized government said Monday, Anadolu reports.

In a statement, the media center of the government’s “Operation Volcano of Rage” said 100 flights have transferred almost 6,200 tons of weapons from the UAE to Haftar since Jan. 12.

The planes carrying the weapons took off from Suweihan Air Base in the UAE and Assab airbase in Eritrea, the statement said.

Arms shipments to Libya violate UN Security Council resolution 1970, which bans weapon exports to the war-torn country.

A 2017 UN report has accused the UAE of exporting weapons to Haftar, whose forces have launched a military offensive in April to capture the capital Tripoli from the internationally recognized government.

Since the ouster of late ruler Muammar Gaddafi in 2011, two seats of power have emerged in Libya: Haftar in eastern Libya supported mainly by Egypt and the UAE, and the Government of National Accord (GNA) in Tripoli, which enjoys UN and international recognition.”

  11. Turkey may close the Bosphorus to Russia warships
    https://www.middleeastmonitor.com/20200224-turkey-may-close-the-bosphorus-to-russia-warships/

“Turkey may soon be closing the Bosphorus Straits to Russian warships in order to prevent them from continuing to resupply the Syrian regime’s military, according to the Russian newspaper Novaya Gazeta.

The possible blocking of the Russian warships would halt the country’s large-scale supply of weapons and aerial power to the Syrian regime of President Bashar Al-Assad, which has been conducted throughout the Syrian civil war and Assad’s ongoing campaign to retake the north-western Idlib province.

It was suggested by the newspaper that the move would enable the Turkish military and the opposition forces that it supports in Syria to have more time to redeploy and arrange reinforcements in the country’s north-west.

One week ago, Russian military expert Sergey Ishchenko commented on the prediction, warning that Turkey could do so to hinder the “functioning of Russian military bases in Khmeimim and Tartus” on the coast of western Syria. He also predicted that Turkey may even restrict Russian warplanes from flying through its airspace.

“It is only necessary for the Turks, at least for a while, to block the Black Sea passage for our ships. Then, the regular operation of the so-called ‘Syrian Express’ will be disrupted,” said Ishchenko, referring to the passage that the Russian ships usually take to provide supplies to Syria and its military.

He emphasised, however, that “Nevertheless, the Syrian Army has enough armor to deter even powerful militant attacks, and retaliatory air strikes will certainly lead to strikes on Turkish checkpoints.”

Late last week it was revealed that Turkey had prevented four Russian military aircraft from entering into Syria, stopping them from delivering supplies of military vehicles, tanks, missile launchers, heavy artillery and anti-armour missiles, in addition to shipments of bombs to be used by two bombers which were part of the Russian air convoy.

Since the Syrian regime’s attacks on the civilians of Idlib and its killings of several Turkish soldiers this month, tensions have escalated between Turkey and Russia over the regime and its allied forces’ breaking of the agreement struck in September 2018, in which Idlib was designated a de-escalation or safe zone.

Russia has been a key ally of the Assad regime since it launched its offensive on Idlib in April last year, and has been the main factor of the regime’s rapid advance in recent months. Its campaign picked up pace following support from Russian ground troops and Iranian forces, enabling it to retake around half of Idlib province so far, including key towns and cities and the strategic M5 highway.

The escalation of violence has resulted in a humanitarian crisis in which the inhabitants of Idlib – numbering over three million – are severely lacking in proper shelter, protection, food, sanitation, healthcare and education. Almost a million of those are displaced by the regime’s bombardment and have been forced to flee their homes in the province to move further north towards the Turkish border, with the mass exodus raising fears of a new wave of refugees into Turkey and subsequently into Europe.”

  12. How karo-kari continues to haunt Sindh
    https://blogs.tribune.com.pk/story/94084/how-karo-kari-continues-to-haunt-sindh/

“The Sindh Police recently released a report on the statistics of honour killing in the country, which held up a damning mirror to our state institutions charged with our protection and by extension to our society at large. The report revealed that in Sindh, 769 people, out of which 510 were women, were murdered between 2014 and 2019 on the pretext of honour.

Although the practice of karo-kari or honour killing spares no gender, women still remained the more vulnerable group, with 108 women being murdered in 2019 alone. It is perhaps more disturbing to consider that these numbers are not accurate, as many cases do not get reported…”

  14. Al-Azhar cleric suspended over controversial post on social media
    http://english.ahram.org.eg/NewsContent/1/64/364058/Egypt/Politics-/AlAzhar-cleric-suspended-over-controversial-post-o.aspx

“Al-Azhar cleric Abdullah Rushdy has been suspended from his duties pending an investigation into an inflammatory post he made on social media believed to have been targeting renowned Egyptian Christian cardiologist Magdi Yacoub.

Religious Endowments Minister Mohamed Mokhtar Gomaa said in a statement that Rushdy will be barred from taking the podium, giving religious classes, or leading prayers pending an investigation into his “controversial opinions, which are not accepted by the ministry and cannot be tolerated given the current conditions.”

Rushdy’s temporary suspension came after he made a post on Facebook believed to be aimed at renowned Egyptian cardiologist Yacoub, who is a Coptic Christian.

Presumably referring to charity work done by Yacoub, Rushdy said yesterday that “earthly work, if not based on a belief in God and his Prophet, only has value on this earth… and deserves gratitude from us as human beings; however, such work holds no weight on Judgment Day.”

Rushdy made the statement amid a wave praise directed at Yacoub after he made donations to a hospital currently being built in Egypt.

Rushdy’s comments brought swift condemnation from social media users, and a complaint was filed by lawyer Samir Sabry with the prosecutor-general accusing Rushdy of inciting sectarian strife.

The Al-Azhar cleric later defended his comments, claiming that he was not referring to Yacoub, whether directly or indirectly.

This is not the first time Rushdy has sparked controversy over his opinions on social media and television.

In 2017, the cleric was suspended after he labeled non-Muslims as infidels; however, he returned to his post per a court order in 2019.”

“Security services in the Spanish enclave of Melilla arrested two Moroccan women on Saturday last week after catching the women abandoning their children in the autonomous city.

The public prosecutor in the autonomous Spanish city of Melilla in Northern Morocco has decided not to prosecute two Moroccan women who police arrested for attempting to abandon their children in the Spanish enclave, Europa Press reports.

The two women and their children will, however, face deportation back to Morocco.

  16. Spain Dismantles Human Trafficking, Sex Network Exploiting Moroccan Women
    https://www.moroccoworldnews.com/2020/02/294559/spain-dismantles-human-trafficking-sex-network-exploiting-moroccan-women/

“National police in Zafra, near Spain’s Badajoz, have dismantled a network active in human trafficking and the sexual exploitation of women.

Europa Press reported that the police arrested four suspects aged between19 and 62 in the operation.

The victims were Moroccan women who were living in Spain without documentation, Europa Press added.

The network pressured the women who were “highly vulnerable due to lack of work and lack of economic means.” The network first offered the women jobs as waitresses or cleaning restaurants. Most of the women were sending money to their families in Morocco.

The network, however, then forced the women to work at clubs as sex workers and promised them to legalize their status in Spain in exchange for €6,000, earned through sex work.

Police in Spain, according to Europa Press, said that the network also physically harassed the victims and threatened to report them to the police and have them deported.

According to the Spanish National Police, the network also used “Moroccan magic” to psychologically control the women through fear and superstition.

The police put the suspects in custody for further investigation.

The European Union said that Spain is one of the most popular “a destination for victims” of human trafficking, mainly from Eastern Europe, Africa, Asia, and South America.

“The modus operandi of the groups linked to this criminal activity is basically structured around three processes: recruitment, transfer and exploitation,” the EU said.

The document indicates that some victims know that they will be exploited and accept that “they are being trapped to go into prostitution, the deception being part of the condition for the activity (the number of hours, number of clients or the remuneration they are supposedly to receive).””

  19. Five Killed, Dozens Injured in Clashes Over Citizenship Law in Delhi Ahead of Trump-Modi Talks (sputniknews, Feb 25, 2020)
    https://sputniknews.com/india/202002251078397662-five-killed-dozens-injured-in-clashes-over-citizenship-law-in-delhi-ahead-of-trump-modi-talks/

“Delhi is witnessing one of its worst clashes in recent times, as two communities have been throwing stones and petrol bombs at each other since Monday. Despite imposing harsh measures, the rioting has not stopped, resulting in overnight clashes in different parts of the city.

A police officer and five civilians were killed, with 70 injured as thousands of demonstrators for and against the newly-amended citizenship law clashed in New Delhi on Monday. The rioting took place a few kilometres from where US President Donald Trump will hold talks with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday.

According to official reports, police officer Ratan Lal, and civilians Mohammed Furqan, Mohammed Shahid, Rahul and Vinod were killed in clashes in the north-east section of Delhi. Records show that at least 45 people were admitted in Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital, while 15 others have been hospitalised in Jag Parvesh Hospital in Delhi. Six police officers were hospitalised in serious condition in Max Hospital.

Video from the clash sites show people throwing stones, as well as setting vehicles, petrol pumps and shops ablaze. Indian home ministry sources said that additional paramilitary forces have been deployed to the region and police have enforced Section 144 of Indian law, prohibiting large gatherings in affected areas.

?Despite enforcing the ban on large gatherings, people continue to take top the streets in sensitive areas like Gokulpuri Bhajanpura, Maujpur, and Jaffrabad. Vehicles, shops and buildings were set ablaze in the region overnight.

Demonstrators have been holding major protests in Delhi since December 2019, after the Modi government amended the country’s six-decade-old citizenship law.

Amended citizenship law grants nationality to non-Muslims from three neighbouring Muslim-dominated countries – Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh.

Muslims have accused the government of undermining secular traditions, and asked that the law be once again amended to include Muslim eligibility for citizenship.”

Quarantined in Saudi for coronavirus, student takes his own life

Cairo: A foreign university student, suspected of having caught the new coronavirus, took his own life while under quarantine, Saudi health authorities have said.

The student, who had lived in Saudi Arabia for the past eight months, arrived at a hospital in the western city of Jeddah on Friday with suspected symptoms of the infectious disease, the city’s health department said late Saturday.

He was subjected to precautionary measures and was put in an isolation room at the King Fahd Hospital in Jeddah pending results of the tests, according to the department.

But he jumped to his death from the room window on Saturday. Later, his viral tests showed negative results, the authorities added.

“Official and security agencies are investigating the incident,” the department added without specifying his nationality or age.

Saudi online newspaper Sabq said the young man was a Chinese national and he jumped from a third-floor room of the hospital.

Saudi Arabia has not confirmed any case of the new virus that has originated in China and spread to many countries around the globe.
