Germany: Arabs do not like carnival – A Muslim threatens carnival party with a hatchet
With an axe in his hand, a 17-year-old threatened several passers-by in the area of the town hall Am Waisenhaus square on Saturday evening at around 9.40 pm. The passers-by, aged between 15 and 36 years, belonged to a Fasching society. For no apparent reason, the young perpetrator approached the group with an axe and threatened them verbally and by a threatening attitude. Without further ado, he then walked away from the group. Police officers from the Pforzheim-Nord police station were called in immediately and were able to meet the young man in the immediate vicinity. As the young man was still holding the axe in a threatening manner, the officers, threatening to use their guns, ordered the 17-year-old to drop the axe. He complied with the request and was arrested without resistance. The young perpetrator was undergoing a medical examination. He tested positive for cannabis and cocaine. Since he posed no further danger, he was handed over to an educator of his youth welfare institution. The 17-year-old Iraqi now faces charges.

Taliban militants attacked a military base in the northern Kunduz province, Afghanistan, on Sunday despite reports during the week that a ceasefire deal between the Taliban and U.S. is under negotiation.
Afghan officials on Friday announced the death of a Taliban deputy commander in a precision airstrike and thwarted several suicide bombings on Monday.
According to Afghan officials, the attack on the Kunduz base lasted several hours and “martyred” five Afghan army troops, plus three others injured, with an unknown number of casualties on the Taliban side.
The Taliban claimed 19 Afghan security troops were killed, four armored personnel carriers were destroyed, and a large amount of weapons and gear were stolen from the base.
The Afghan Ministry of Defense said a precision airstrike on Friday night killed seven militants, including Jalal Sirat, deputy commander of the Taliban’s “Red Unit” and Ahmadullah Taloqani, a senior Taliban commander in the Takhar district.

Around 60 to 89 per cent of the children attending the six preschools speak another language as their mother tongue with the Skogsgläntans preschool seeing the majority of children speaking Arabic, fueling fears of segregation in the municipality.
Monica Berggren, the rector of Skogsgläntans preschool, said that language issues can be a problem when conflicts arise, while teacher Camilla Widerström added that it was difficult for teachers to understand the children or have the children understand them, Sveriges Radio reports.

The warrants were issued as part of a crackdown on the network led by cleric Fethullah Gulen that continues nearly four years after the attempted coup. Turkish authorities maintain that the group remains a national security threat.
Anadolu Agency said prosecutors were seeking the detention of 467 alleged Gulen followers who are suspected of cheating in a police superintendent promotion examination in 2009. Police were conducting simultaneous raids in 67 provinces across Turkey, the agency reported.
Warrants were also issued against 157 non-commissioned military officers in 43 provinces and 71 Justice Ministry personnel, Anadolu reported. At least 101 of the military personnel were still on active duty in the Air Force or Navy.
On July 15, 2016, a group of officers attempted a coup to overthrow Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Some 250 people were killed and more than 2,000 were injured during the failed attempt.
Some 77,000 people have been arrested and around 130,000 others, including military personnel, have been dismissed from state jobs in the crackdown on Gulen’s network since the coup.
Gulen, who has lived in self-imposed exile in the United States since 1999, denies involvement in the coup attempt.
Turkish authorities and critics of Gulen charge that many of his followers were able to infiltrate state institutions over the years through widespread cheating in entrance exams.”

Pakistani madrassas: Enduring through challenges

“Long controversial, Islamic education institutions in Pakistan have begun to enter the limelight thanks to their students’ success.
Known as madrassas, students in these institutions are receiving all the latest scientific and technical education, said Umar Saif, a computer scientist and academic.
“I always find these students very much disciplined. They are sharp and quick learners. Most of them are very much into science and technology. Better education opportunities will also give them a chance of better employment,” said Saif.
Following its counter-terrorism policy launched in January 2015, Islamabad started to more tightly regulate madrassas across the country and are now implementing a vibrant set of reforms.
Former military spokesman Asif Ghafoor told reporters last year that more than 30,000 madrassas would be brought into the “mainstream,” overseen by the ministry of education.
“An Islamic education will continue to be provided but there will be no hate speech,” Ghafoor said.
Punjab’s provincial Education Minister Muraad Raas said: “The federal government is working to registered all the madrassas on a priority basis.”
He noted that out of 16,000 madrassas in Punjab alone, the provincial government registered 208 of the schools teaching some 18,000 students.
The government’s priority in doing so is to “build the connections and welcome” these students into “mainstream education” so they could take matriculation exams, he added.
The government also plans to set up public vocational schools based on Turkey’s Imam Hatip middle and high school model to offer a mixture of religious and worldly education to future Islamic scholars.
“These institutions are indispensable as a majority of them are in backward areas where we need to spread information and the importance of the worldly education along with religious,” said Raas.
The plan’s implementation is ongoing and the results have started coming in, with a four-student team of high school-level students from Jamia Baitusslam madrassa based in Karachi winning a robotics competition held at the Heavy Industries Taxila Education City University in northeast Pakistan.t
While expressing his joy, chairman of the Baitussalam Welfare Trust Maulana Abdul Sattar said: “We are proud of our students, they have never let us down. We are thankful to the government of Turkey for taking this initiative and we wish to expand this tech lab project to our other campuses as well.
Sattar said that the school currently had 35,000-40,000 students, adding that it made sure “they get all the basic facilities” with their housing, medical and transport expenses covered by the school.
“Jamia has 370 basic educational centers across Pakistan and there are three big campuses in which students get O and A levels education,” he said, referring to certificates of ordinary and advanced curriculum recognized by the U.K.
Making headlines all over Pakistan and international media, the madrassa’s students’ success has awakened curiosity on the education provided at the schools.
“It is time we think beyond false allegations against madrassas,” Sattar told Anadolu Agency.

“[The media] should identify the culprits and not blame the entire sector […] In many areas, these institutions are the only option for the poor to educate their children, and this earns them a special position,” Abbas, who wrote the book Madrassah Mirage: A contemporary history of Islamic schools in Pakistan, told Anadolu Agency.

The Blatu Hub Technology Lab in Talagang, Punjab – a project by the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) – has become a center for the Baitussalam Robotics Club (BRC).
TIKA’s Islamabad program coordinator Gokhan Umut said that the state-run aid agency was “playing an important role to develop strong bonds between the two countries, whether it is an experience sharing in health, vocational training, media or culture exchange.”

The reason for the gas leak and the type of gas involved has not yet been confirmed by the Pakistani government.
The police in the affected area earlier said that the gas leak was coming from a chemical container of a ship docked at one of the ports in the city.
The gas leak in the nation’s largest city and the country’s main commercial hub has turned out to be a significant challenge for the federal government.
The delay in finding the exact cause of the leak has people speculating about the role of a nuclear power facility in Karachi that is 10 km away from Keamari.
Due to the odourless gas, people are experiencing respiratory problems, dizziness, nausea, and stomachaches.
The hospitals have run out of oxygen as the number of people affected is constantly increasing. According to doctors, some patients are experiencing acute asthmatic attacks.

Haftar-Led Libyan National Army Says It Destroyed a Turkish Vessel With Weapons in Port of Tripoli (sputniknews, Feb 18, 2020)

At the moment, there is no official comment from the Turkish authorities on the incident.
In the meantime, vessels at the port were evacuated after the attack, Reuters reported, citing port officials.
BREAKING: There are reports that a Turkish ship at the Tripoli docks in Libya has been targeted by artillery fire. Photos from people in the area show a large plume of smoke in the area.
The news comes just a day after Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said that the LNA was constantly violating the ceasefire and that Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar “must be stopped”. His statement was made on the 9th anniversary of Libya’s revolution that ended the decades-long rule of Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi in 2011, dragging the country into civil war.
Turkish authorities earlier supported the UN-endorsed GNA, led by Fayez al-Serraj that controls the western part of the country. In the meantime, the Tobruk-based government, supported by the LNA, has accused Ankara of seeking to conquer the North African country.
While Turkey stated it is ready to deploy troops to protect the GNA, Haftar announced mobilisation to resist foreign intervention.”

A cocaine-dealing paedophile was jailed after police found 10 child-sized bras in a locked metal cabinet which he’d kept as ‘trophies’ of his sickening abuse.
Samiral Choudhury was first jailed after a kilo of cocaine was found in his car.
But when police in the midst of a major investigation into heroin and cocaine dealers seized a set of keys and combed his house, they found the twisted collection which included several horrendous images of girls.
The victims were thought to be as young as seven, M.E.N reports.
And the evidence which convicted the paedophile was acquired through the latest cutting-edge tech available to police in the UK.
Choudhury wept in the dock today as he was jailed for more than seven years for the abuse, having previously been jailed for four years for supplying a Class A drug – an offence he admitted.
The drug dealer is “pretty upset and embarrassed in the dock,” his defence solicitor said.
His downfall began in 2017 when, as part of a huge investigation into the supply of cocaine and heroin to the North West and Midlands, police stopped a car being driven by in Entwistle Street, Rochdale.
The cocaine was found and he was placed in handcuffs but a set of keys he had on him were also seized. They were later used to open the cabinet in his bedroom.
Inside the cabinet were the bras and a USB stick, on which police found indecent images of the young girls. He also had images on his mobile phone.
It is suspected the bras had been kept as “trophies” of his abuse.
He refused to answer questions about them, but they are thought to be from one victim.
Also on Choudhury’s mobile phone were videos of an adult woman taking a shower, filmed using a camera cable through a hole in a wall.
Choudhury was today jailed for seven years and two months after admitting sexual assault by penetration of a child under 13, sexual assault of a child under 13 and voyeurism on the first day of a trail.
The sex offender began to cry as the details of the case were read out to the judge.
Minshull Street Crown Court heard how Choudhury’s crimes came to light in June 2017 when his car was pulled over by police officers in his hometown of Rochdale.
Officers stopped a Mercedes driven by Choudhury at 11pm on June 20 of that year.
No sexual offences were suspected.
Prosecutor Simon Blakeborough told the court that police seized the defendant’s mobile phone and searched his family home on Entwistle Road in Rochdale.
In Choudhury’s box bedroom they discovered a USB stick locked in a cashbox and a number of small bras in a locked cabinet.
Mr Blakeborough said: “The bras are described by an officer as training bras used by young girls who are just starting to develop breasts during puberty.”
Officers also found a “spyhole camera” device attached to a cable underneath Choudhury’s pillow.
On his phone police found a 48 second long video showing the sexual abuse of a child.
Experts who examined the footage estimated the age of the child as between seven and ten-years-old, the court heard.
The phone also contained two still images of a young girl on a bed with a man’s hand groping her breast.
Choudhury’s was also in possession of a number of videos showing an undressed woman “drying off after a shower” which prosecutors say was filmed using a ‘peephole’.
A number of videos of fully clothed children filmed in public, which appeared to have been taken “covertly”, were also discovered, Mr Blakeborough said.
When quizzed by police in prison, where he was serving time for drug offences, Choudhury denied the offences, instead claiming that the USB stick was used for work and other people had access to it.
Police say Choudhury also claimed he had the ‘peephole’ camera to look for rodents that were behind skirting boards in his house.
But brilliant detective work and technology proved he was a liar.
Specialist officers identified Choudhury’s fingerprint from a still image of a hand taken from one of the high definition videos downloaded from his phone.
Police assessing the video took still pictures of his fingers and zoomed in on the ridges and swirls of his finger.
It is believed to be only the second time in Greater Manchester such technology has been used to prove guilt.
On the first day of his trial last month Choudhury changed his plea and admitted the offences.
Police hope to use the technology again as the quality of mobile phone cameras improve.
Defending Choudhury, Ms White said he is willing to take any courses that would address his offending behaviour.
“The defendant is pretty upset and embarrassed in the dock,” she said.
“These offences have had a profound effect on his assessment of himself.
“His mum and dad are here. They don’t excuse his behaviour but stand by him.
Choudhury was jailed for seven years and two months and made the subject of an indefinite sexual harm prevention order, prohibiting him from having unsupervised contact with children under 16.
It will also require him to allow police to inspect any electronic devices capable of accessing the internet.
Detective Constable Adam Cronshaw, of GMP’s Serious Crime Division, said: “Choudhury is not only a convicted drug dealer but now a convicted paedophile too.
“The sentence imposed by the court today highlights the justice system’s commitment to protecting children from predatory and shameful behaviour.
“Sexual offences often have a life-long impact on victims. We are 100 per cent committed to bringing those responsible for these shocking crimes to justice”.

Democrats hope to limit president’s powers to recall ambassadors
Senate Democrats are working on a number of proposals to limit the president’s powers to recall ambassadors. According to reports, Sen. Bob Menendez (D-N.J.) is drafting new rules aimed at limiting the president’s power over the State Department, including one which would grant Congress more authority to question the president over their decision to recall ambassadors.
This comes amid speculation President Trump recalled former Ukraine Ambassador Marie Yovanovich last year after she was suspected of impeding an investigation into corruption in Ukraine. Democrats have argued this constitutes an abuse of power by President Trump. They have also alleged he kicked Yovanovitch out for political gain.
However, opponents of the rules have argued they would go too far to limit the executive branch. Former Afghanistan Ambassador Ronald E. Neumann weighed in on the proposals by saying it’s important the president has the ability to remove ambassadors at their discretion.
The controversy over the treatment of Yovanovitch by the Trump administration came to a head during the House’s impeachment hearings, following her testimony.
It was also alleged that President Trump had private associates of his follow the Ukraine ambassador, which prompted Secretary of State Mike Pompeo to launch a probe into the incident. He said he doesn’t think the claims will prove to be true.
“We will do everything we need to do to evaluate whether there was something that took place there,” said Pompeo. “I suspect that much of what’s been reported we’ll ultimately prove wrong, but our obligation, my obligation as Secretary of State, is to make sure that we evaluate, investigate anytime there’s someone who poses there may have been a risk to one of our officers, we’ll obviously do that.”

“Analysis by a media monitoring body has found that leftist groups which advocate for higher public spending appear more often in the media that right-wing groups that support less spending of taxpayers’ money.
The research conducted for one week in August and commissioned by Westminster-focussed news website Guido Fawkes found that statist organisations — such as think tanks, campaign groups, and charities — are mentioned six times more frequently in the British media that their free-market counterparts.
“In absolute terms, groups which advocate lower government spending receive less media attention than those which advocate greater government spending,” the report, published on Tuesday, said.
The study found that groups backing less public spending comprised of fewer than one-in-ten (three) of all groups receiving media attention, while organisations backing greater public spending were around half (18) of the total (44). Statist groups had reportedly received around 40 times more funding than free-market groups.
Some of the leftist groups whose views were given airtime include Extinction Rebellion, the socialist Fabian Society, Greenpeace, and the race equality think tank the Runnymede Trust, the later whose first director was Marxist scholar Dipak Nandy, the father of Labour leadership candidate Lisa Nandy.
While this report examines the media landscape entire, other studies have pointed to bias in the BBC specifically. MALAYSIA – Court orders man who stepped on Quran to be sent to Permai Hospital
JOHOR BARU: The magistrate’s court here today ordered a man seen stepping on the Quran in a recent viral video to be sent to Permai Hospital here for a mental health assessment.
The order under Section 342 of the Criminal Procedure Code was issued against Mohd Zulkifli Ali, 33, by magistrate Nurasidah A. Rahman.
The request for the mental health evaluation was made by deputy public prosecutor Nurhayati Muhammad Fathullah for the court to determine Mohd Zulkifli’s mental health status.
Mohd Zulkifli was charged with defiling the al-Quran by stepping on it with the intention of insulting Islam under Section 295 of the Penal Code, which provides for a maximum jail term of two years or a fine or both if convicted.
He was also accused of uttering insulting words heard by an individual with the intent to hurt his or her religious convictions under Section 298 of the same code which carries a jail term of up to a year or a fine or both if found guilty.
Both offences were alleged to have taken place at a hotel room on Jalan Abiad, Taman Tebrau Jaya, here at 8.40am on Feb 13.
However, the unemployed man who was unrepresented did not make any plea when the charges were read out to him and simply nodded in an apparent acknowledgement.
The court fixed March 17 for re-mention. –

“As violent crime continues to surge across France, it is estimated that as many as 120 knife attacks occur on average per day across the country.
The figures, which come from the National Observatory of Delinquency and Criminal Responses (ONDRP), claim that between 2015 and 2017 there were around 44,000 victims of knife crime each year, or an average of 120 per day.
On average, 118,000 people in France say they were victims of some sort of violent crime involving an attacker who they were not living with such as assaults in public areas, schools, nightclubs, and other venues, Le Figaro reports.
Knives are the most common weapons reported in violent crime cases, followed by 34 per cent who say they were attacked with a blunt object or rock, and around nine per cent who were attacked with a firearm.
In cases of fatal violence, the trend remains largely the same, with edged weapons seen in 34 per cent of cases, followed by firearms at 28 per cent.
Murders and attempted murders have seen a staggering increase in France in the last decade with 3,168 cases in 2018, compared to 1,767 in 2009.
“Violence is [spreading]. Law enforcement is no longer scary. Today, for nothing, for a look, it turns to fists. Pulling out a gun has become commonplace,” Frédéric Lagache of the police union Alliance Police Nationale said in September.
According to a senior Paris police official, stabbings were a common occurrence at makeshift migrant camps in the north of the city.
“There were many fights in the migrant camps, between Afghans, Eritreans and Somalis in particular, which ended with stabbings, in the north of Paris. The dismantling of these fixing points has been beneficial,” the official said.
The makeshift migrant camps had become so dangerous in recent years that the aid group Solidarité Migrants Wilson shut down their operations due to the threat posed to their workers in 2018.”
Syria: Turkish military convoy crosses border amid SAA advance in Idlib and Aleppo countryside
A Turkish military convoy crossed the Syrian border, entering the north-eastern part of the country in the early hours of Tuesday.
Footage filmed near Bab al-Hawa Border Crossing, shows a large convoy of tanks, armoured vehicles and supply trucks reportedly driving towards Idlib countryside.
Reports say Ankara increased its military presence in Syria after the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) announced it had regained full control over the towns and villages surrounding Aleppo, as well as the strategic M5 highway connecting Aleppo and Damascus, after days of a military offensive.
Syria: Assad vows to continue Idlib offensive in Damascus address
Syrian President Bashar al-Assad vowed that “the battle of liberating the countryside of Aleppo and Idlib will continue,” adding that his government would “liberate every inch of the Syrian soil,” during a televised address in Damascus on Monday.
Assad continued that the Syrian Arab Army’s (SAA) victory in the Aleppo countryside were a “prelude” to the militants’ “complete defeat.”
“We are fully aware that this liberation does not mean the end of the war,” said Assad, adding that “it certainly means we have rubbed their noses in the dirt as a prelude to their complete defeat, sooner or later.”
The SAA has regained control of towns and villages surrounding Aleppo following an extensive offensive against militants.
The government forces have also reclaimed full control of the strategic M5 highway connecting Aleppo, in the north of the country, and Damascus in the south.

Some are questioning the effectiveness of the quarantine process after an additional 88 passengers onboard the Diamond Princess cruise ship docked in Yokohama, Japan, tested positive for Coronavirus Tuesday.

Judge Napolitano came back down to earth for a few hours this week to weigh in on the Roger Stone case.
Napolitano told Tucker Carlson this week that the lead juror in the Roger Stone case could be jailed for lying to the court. Napolitano went on to say the entire case in crooked Judge Amy Berman Jackson’s court could be tossed out due to the open bias of the jurors.

Juror Tomeka Hart, on the Roger Stone case, is a radical Democrat with a long list of Democrat connections. She now may be the reason that Roger Stone’s attorneys may be calling for a new trial.

Update (1300ET): In a landmark decision, Russia has temporarily banned Chinese from entry as of Feb. 20, becoming the first country to ban all Chinese from entry in response to the coronavirus outbreak, according to Russian news agency TASS.
This is only the latest step from Russia, which has already closed most entry points along its 4,200-kilometer border, suspended e-visas and work visas for Chinese nationals.
