A Chinese envoy on Tuesday reiterated China’s firm support for the Palestinian people’s just cause to restore their legitimate national rights, in the wake of the unveiling of a controversial U.S. Middle East peace plan.

Germany: Migrants set fire to hospital and flee laughing out loud – photograph of the culprit
In the late evening hours of the 25th of January 2020 (Saturday) a fire was discovered in the visitors’ toilet of the hospital at the street Bleichstraße 15 in Bochum, which the fire brigade was able to quickly extinguish. No persons were injured by the fire or the smoke emissions.
According to the current state of investigation, three young men entered the hospital via the main entrance at 10.35 pm and shortly afterwards went to the toilet room in the emergency room. While the trio – apparently Mediterraneans, who are between 19 and 25 years of age – were laughing loudly and quickly leaving the hospital through the exit to the street Große-Beck-Straße, the fire in the toilet was discovered at around 10:40 p.m. In the hospital, the three male persons were captured by a surveillance camera. By court order, the photos of the suspects were released for media publication. Witnesses who can provide information about the trio are asked to report to the Bochum fire commissioner’s office (KK 11) by calling 0234 / 909-4106 or to the criminal investigation department by calling 0234 / 909-4441.

“An anti-terrorism court in Lahore on Wednesday convicted Hafiz Saeed, chief of the banned Jamaatud Dawa (JuD) in two terror financing cases.
The JuD chief has been sentenced to 11 years in prison on terrorism financing charges.
Special Anti-Terrorism Court Judge Arshad Hussain Bhatta announced the reserved verdict.
Saeed was found guilty of “being part of a banned terrorist outfit” and for “having illegal property”, his lawyer Imran Gill told AFP.
On Tuesday, an anti-terrorism court accepted a plea of Hafiz Saeed to club all six terror financing cases against him and his associates and announce the verdict on completion of the trial.
The court had indicted the JuD chief and three of his associates – Hafiz Abdul Salam bin Mohammad, Mohammad Ashraf and Prof Zafar Iqbal – on terror financing charges on December 11 last year in a case filed by the Counter-Terrorism Department. Saeed and Prof Zafar Iqbal were later indicted in a similar case on December 20. The cases were filed by CTD Lahore and Gujranwala chapters.
The ATC on Saturday last week had deferred announcing its verdict in the terror financing cases and decided to hear arguments on Feb 11 on the suspects’ application to hear all cases first before reserving its judgment.
On July 3 last year, 13 top leaders of the banned outfit, including its chief Saeed and Naib Emir Abdul Rehman Makki, were booked in nearly two dozen cases of terror financing and money laundering under the Anti-Terrorism Act, 1997. Saeed was later arrested by the CTD on July 17 while he was travelling between Gujranwala and Lahore.
Saeed is nominated in 29 cases pertaining to alleged terror financing, money laundering as well as illegal land grabbing. During the trial of both cases, the court recorded the statements of 23 witnesses.
The crackdown on JuD last year followed a warning by the Paris-based Financial Action Task Force to Pakistan to deliver on its commitments to curb terror financing and money laundering.
The government had announced a ban on JuD and Falah-e-Insanyat Foundation (FIF) to partially address the concerns raised by India that Pakistan supported these and six similar organisations, including Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) or at least considered them low-risk entities.
The law enforcement agencies over the next few weeks had intensified their crackdown on JeM, JuD, FIF and other banned outfits, and arrested more than 100 activists. Nearly 200 seminaries besides hundreds of other facilities and assets associated with them across the country were taken over by the government.”

“Ankara previously hit Syrian government forces in Idlib, claiming it has eliminated 51 units belonging to Damascus after the Syrian Army hit an observation post in Idlib, killing eight Turkish nationals.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has claimed that his country will do whatever is necessary, including ground and air means in order to push the Syrian Arab Army beyond Turkish observation posts in Idlib by the end of the month.
He also stated that at least 14 Turkish troops had been killed by Syria, adding that the Turkish-backed rebels in Idlib are now mobilised against Damascus. In addition, Erdogan accused Syria and Russia of attacks against civilians in Idlib, threatening to attack Syrian forces outside of Idlib Province in the event of an offensive.
Addressing the situation in Syria, the Kremlin stated that Russian President Vladimir Putin had held phone talks with his Turkish counterpart, agreeing to implement a memorandum they had reached in Sochi and to stop the escalation in the region. They have also agreed on additional contacts between the countries’ defence bodies.
Later in the day, Turkish Foreign Ministry stated the country’s delegation would soon visit Moscow to negotiate the situation in Northern Syria.
At the same time, Moscow stressed that Russian and Syrian forces are not attacking civilians, despite Turkey’s claims.
“We have repeatedly and decisively stated that neither Russia nor the Syrian armed forces conduct attacks on civilians. All the attacks are targeted exclusively against the terror bands, the people who carry weapons and engage in the fight against the legal government”, the Foreign Ministry’s Department for New Challenges and Threats Director, Vladimir Tarabrin said.
The Syrian Army started an offensive in January, after reporting multiple ceasefire breaches by various militant factions in Idlib, which is still partially under the control of jihadists, including the Jabhat al-Nusra* terrorist organisation.

“NIGERIA has warned of a mystery disease that has already killed 15 people and infected many more.
The Nigerian Senate today raised the alarm over what they are calling an epidemic in Oye-Obi, in the state of Bunue, which has also infected at least 104 people. Today, News Africa said the disease has not yet been diagnosed by health authorities, so a possible cure has not yet been found.

So says Afghan professor and presidential candidate Abdul Lateef Nazari who claimed Wednesday that according to Iran’s, “friends and foes alike, Islamic Revolution was the biggest development of the 20th century” which was based on, “spirituality” and nurtured people like the late terrorist leader Qasem Soleimani.
The Iran revolution began in January 1979 and ended on Feb. 11 with the overthrow of monarch Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, who was an ally of the United States.
An interview published by the semi-official IRNA press service carried the view that, “the Islamic Revolution introduced the discourse of resistance to the world arrogance.” It continued:
Nazari said that the difference between the Islamic Revolution and the two previous big ones, i.e. the Russian and the French revolutions, is that spirituality and its ideological function are clearly seen in the former.
Regarding the U.S. terrorist attack to assassinate Lieutenant-General Soleimani’s at the direct order of President Donald Trump, Nazari said that General Soleimani was not just a skilled anti-US commander to be compared to Che Guevara; he was a creative politician that changed the discourse of resistance whose center is Iran into a paradigm in Western Asia and globalized it.
He added that the Resistance aims at driving the US out of the region and restoring the Islamic civilization. The idea is prevalent in some regional countries.
The interview continued to outline a series of cententious ideas that pointed to growing Islamic dominance of the wider world.
It added that far from being a terrorist driven by the urgent need for broadening jihad, Gen. Qasem Soleimani, the former commander of the Quds Force of the Islamic Revolution Guard Corps who was eliminated in a U.S. drone strike last month, was simply misunderstood.
Instead of being a jihadist bent of destruction, he was a humble resistance leader working across Syria to Yemen and from Iraq to Afghanistan, with his abilities known to, “put the enemies of the Resistance into strategic confusion. He disrupted all the plans of Iran’s enemies in Syria, Iraq, Lebanon and Yemen single-handed, and gave an identity and a personality to the Resistance.”
IRNA claims the influence of Iran is now seen on a global scale and locally, “from the Indian Ocean to Bab al-Mandab Strait, and from the east coast of the Mediterranean Sea to the Caspian Sea. Iran is the biggest and the most influential power in the region.”
The article offered no evidence to support the claim of Iran’s so-called ideological dominance or newly acquired position as the major regional power of the Middle East and beyond.”

“A top UN official warned that Europe will face a new migrant crisis if the situation in Lebanon, a country that has been ravaged an economic crisis and internal strife, is not resolved before it becomes a failed state.
Jan Kubis, the UN’s top official in Lebonan and former Slovakian foreign minister, warned that the crisis in Lebonan has the potential to send new waves of mass migration to Europe, saying that politicians in the EU should work to stabilise the situation to incentivise “younger Lebanese to stay in their own country”.
“Lebanon is on the shores of the Mediterranean. Just look at what is happening now. Look at the waves of migration being generated by many other countries. And what is the destination? It’s Europe,” Kubis told Sky News.
“Politics is local and if you look at what is sometimes very obvious, the political discussions in a number of countries in Europe is their fear of another wave of migration. And they know very well that Lebanon is not around the globe.
“Politicians in Europe must understand that the more they will support real reforms in Lebanon, provided Lebanon will go into real reforms, this is better for them because they can maybe stabilise the situation to such an extent that it will give perspective to the younger Lebanese to stay in their own country,” suggested the UN official.
Mr Kubis said that the economic crisis has the potential of spiralling into a security crisis and that it would result in Europe having a combination of Syrians, who “are still in droves as refugees [here] but many others, starting with the Lebanese”.
Lebanon has been racked by civil unrest since October of last year when the government proposed a swathe of new taxes during an economic crisis, including taxes on gasoline, tobacco, and even on the WhatsApp messaging application.
The country has lost over 200,000 jobs since the start of the economic crisis and some ten per cent of all businesses in Lebanon have been closed.
The Lebanese pound has lost a third of its value, leading to a 9 billion pound fall in bank deposits in the first 11 months of 2019. Banks across Lebanon have also introduced capital flight restrictions on withdrawals, with some banks limiting withdrawals to just the equivalent of £150 every two weeks.
A new government, headed by Hassan Diab, a former professor, has been formed to confront the growing crisis. However, Lebanon’s foreign minister, Nassif Hitti, warned that the situation could lead the country down the road of becoming a “failed state”.
“We are very much aware of these very serious problems that the country is facing: an economic, financial crisis with strong social repercussions over time and definitely it could have political repercussions in terms of chaos or whatever could happen after,” Dr Hitti told Sky News.
“Imagine, God forbid, if we fall into a chaotic situation, what could happen, we have seen countries falling into that situation around us,” he warned.”

“The U.S. military has switched from trying to degrade Islamic extremist groups in West Africa’s sprawling Sahel region to merely trying to contain them as their deadly threat increases, a new U.S. government report says.
The quarterly report by the inspectors general for the Pentagon, State Department and USAID released this week was the first one to be unclassified as interest surges in the U.S. military’s activities in Africa. Security allies are worried as the U.S. considers cutting troops on the continent to counter China and Russia elsewhere in the world.
Top concerns in Africa include the fast-growing threat from multiple extremist groups in the Sahel region just south of the Sahara Desert and the enduring threat by the al-Qaida-linked al-Shabab in Somalia, which killed three Americans in an unprecedented attack against U.S. forces in Kenya last month.
Consistent pressure on extremist groups is needed to weaken them, the report says, citing Defense Secretary Mark Esper, who has compared it to “mowing the lawn.” That need, along with the often slow development of local partners’ militaries, “could require ongoing commitment of U.S. military resources,” the report adds.
The new report says the U.S. Africa Command has expressed concerns to the Pentagon’s inspector general that some resources will be moved from Somalia to the North African nation of Libya, where a conflict between rival governments has drawn the attention of powers including Russia and Turkey.
About 6,000 U.S. military personnel are deployed across Africa, the report says, including 500 special operations forces in Somalia and about 800 personnel in West Africa.
The security situation in Burkina Faso “is deteriorating faster than anywhere else in the Sahel,” says the new report, citing AFRICOM. The West African nation is staggering under a growing number of extremist attacks as fighters move in from neighboring Mali. Hundreds of civilians have been killed and hundreds of thousands have fled.
Extremist groups affiliated with the Islamic State group and al-Qaida in West Africa’s Sahel “are neither degraded nor contained,” the report warns, citing AFRICOM.
Late last year, AFRICOM told the Pentagon inspector general that the new U.S. military strategy has switched from trying to degrade, or reduce the effectiveness, of those extremist groups to trying to keep them from growing their membership and spreading into new areas.
Mali’s president this week told French media outlets his government is now in contact with leaders of the most active extremist group, the al-Qaida-linked JNIM, a sign that troubled West African countries are exploring various options, including negotiations, to curb the threat.
JNIM has about 1,000 to 2,000 fighters and its goal is to “unite all terrorist groups in the Sahel and eliminate Western influence in the region,” the U.S. report says.
The U.S. military in the Sahel largely supports the militaries of France and African countries in their fight against the extremists, including with “limited counterterrorism operations,” and carries out airborne intelligence and surveillance operations.
But such activities were questioned in Washington after four U.S. soldiers were killed in an extremist ambush in Niger in 2017. Last month’s attack in Kenya was the deadliest one against U.S. forces in Africa since that ambush.
France recently announced it would increase its troop presence in the Sahel to more than 5,000 and has started arming its drones, while French leaders have urged the U.S. against cutting its military presence.”

“A Syrian was killed and another was wounded in a rare clash Wednesday between American troops and a group of government supporters who tried to block a U.S. convoy driving through a village in northeastern Syria, state media and activists reported.
The state-run media said the killed man was a civilian. He was among residents of a village east of the town of Qamishli who had gathered at an army checkpoint, pelting the U.S. convoy with stones and taking down a U.S. flag from one of the vehicles. At that point, U.S. troops fired with live ammunition and smoke bombs at the residents, the reports said.
A U.S. military spokesman said coalition forces conducting a patrol near Qamishli encountered a checkpoint occupied by pro-Syrian government forces. After coalition troops issued a series of warnings in an attempt to de-escalate the situation, the patrol came under small-arms fire from unknown individuals, coalition spokesman Myles Caggins said.
“In self-defense, coalition troops returned fire. The situation was de-escalated and is under investigation,” he added in a statement, which did not refer to any deaths.

“Human Rights Watch warned on Wednesday that Italy’s renewed support for the Libyan coast guard is putting migrants in danger who are returned to squalid detention centers in the North African country.
Italy sees the Libyan coast guard as key to stemming a huge influx of migrants crossing the Mediterranean into Europe. The war in Libya, where rival militias are vying for control, has made the challenge of handling the migrant flows worse.
The New York-based watchdog urged Italy to suspend all funding and training for the coast guard until Libya commits to shutting down militant-run detention centers in the country. About 5,000 migrants are languishing in dozens of filthy Libyan centers, where rape, torture and other abuses run rampant.
“Italy can’t paper over its complicity in the suffering of migrants and refugees who fall into the hands of the Libyan Coast Guard,” said Judith Sunderland, associate director of the Europe and Central Asia division at Human Rights Watch.
The U.N. refugee agency reports that the coast guard has picked up and returned roughly 40,000 migrants to war-ravaged Libya since the agreement was reached three years ago. The total number of migrants intercepted in the past month rose 121% from the same period last year.
Italy recently extended its contentious deal supporting the Libyan coast guard, drawing sharp criticism from humanitarian groups.
In an interview with The Associated Press, Italy’s foreign minister revealed that Rome has asked Libya to modify the accord to give humanitarian groups some responsibility for migrants intercepted by the coast guard. The proposal’s details remain vague.
Sunderland described the suggested changes as “tweaking” an already broken arrangement.
“Italian authorities should insist on the closure of detention centers, direct its resources to supporting safe alternatives to detention, increase evacuations from Libya, including directly to Italy, and resume a leadership role in saving lives at sea,” she said.”

Va. House of Delegates passes bill banning the sale of specified semi-automatic firearms, modifications
Virginia lawmakers are continuing to get gun laws through the the state’s lower chamber as Democrats get a narrow victory on a gun bill.
The state’s delegates passed HB 961 on Tuesday, banning specified semi-automatic firearms and modifications. Advocates of the bill believe this will keep prohibited items out of the hands of the wrong people.
“I ask you to pass this while they do have uses that were probably fine in the hands of certain people,” urged Andrew Goddard from the Virginia Center for Public Safety. “We don’t have a system in place to ensure that they are only in the hands of those good people.”
The bill bans the transaction of any firearm defined as a semi-automatic rifle that can hold a magazine exceeding 12 rounds. It also prohibits transactions involving suppressors, high capacity magazines and trigger activators. Opponents believe this is far reaching and targets law abiding citizens.
“This bill does not make anyone safer, this bill does not make Virginians safer,” stated D.J. Spiker, a lobbyist for the NRA. “What this bill does is make Virginians, law abiding Virginians, felons overnight — we strongly oppose this bill. ”
Gun laws have been contentious in the state since Democrats took control of its legislature in November. Seven out of eight bills regarding gun legislation have been passed by Virginia’s House of Delegates this year, which has prompted protests from Second Amendment advocates.
A large protest at the state capitol ensued as a result of aggressive gun policies as well as more than 80 communities calling themselves Second Amendment sanctuaries.

Coronavirus confirmed in San Diego, Calif.
Another case of coronavirus has been confirmed in the U.S., bringing the national total to 13 cases. A California hospital momentarily released a patient who was unknowingly infected by the coronavirus.
The UC San Diego Medical Center discharged four people Sunday after botched test results came back negative for the disease. Those patients were part of a group who recently evacuated from Wuhan, China.
“Because these individuals were in Wuhan, the epicenter of the outbreak where there is intense and escalating community-wide spread of this novel coronavirus, we consider them at high risk of exposure,” stated Dr. Christopher Braden, Centers for Disease Control (CDC).
After being released from the hospital, they were transferred to the Miramar Air Base where all China evacuees will stay in quarantine.

China’s new coronavirus cases drop, world still scared
BEIJING/SINGAPORE (Reuters) – China reported on Wednesday its lowest number of new coronavirus cases in two weeks, bolstering a forecast by Beijing’s senior medical adviser for the outbreak in the country to end by April – but fears of further international spread remained.
The 2,015 new confirmed cases took China’s total to 44,653. That was the lowest daily rise since Jan. 30 and came a day after epidemiologist Zhong Nanshan said the epidemic should peak in China this month before subsiding.

Turkey prosecutors indict Assyrian priest for terror group membership
Turkish prosecutors indict Father Sefer (Aho) Bileçen, the priest of the Saint Jacob’s church in the city of Nusaybin in southeastern Turkey, for membership of a terrorist organisation, Gazete Kar?nca said on Tuesday.
Turkish gendarme forces on Jan. 9 detained Bileçen and nine other members of the Assyrian community, and the priest was arrested two days later on charges of aiding and abetting terrorists.
The reason for Bileçen’s arrest was testimony by a member of People’s Defence Forces (HPG), the armed wing of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), who said Bileçen provided HPG members with bread and water when they would go to the monastery, Gazete Karinca said.
Membership of a terror organisation carries a total sentence of from seven-and-a-half to 15 years in jail, according to Turkish laws.
During the 1990s, the height of Turkey’s conflict with the PKK when thousands of villages in the country’s southeast were evacuated, much of the remaining Assyrians were forced to abandon their villages.
When developments in recent years allowed the community’s return, Bileçen arrived at the church and undertook its restoration after spending decades in ruins. The monastery was opened again in 2013.

Syrian government forces, supported by Russia, have recently been increasing their efforts to expel terrorists from Idlib, the only remaining militant stronghold in Syria.
At the same time, over the past two days, the Turkish Defence Ministry has issued statements, saying the country’s military has been conducting retaliatory attacks on Syrian government forces.
According to the ministry’s data, on Monday, the Turkish army struck 115 Syrian government targets, destroying 101 of them, while on Tuesday it managed to hit 51 government units.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Two senators — one Republican and one Democrat — are leading a legislative effort to have a global women’s initiative spearheaded by President Donald Trump’s daughter Ivanka written into law.
Sens. Lindsey Graham, R.-S.C., and Jeanne Shaheen, D-N.H., are behind the effort, the senior White House adviser announced at a State Department anniversary event for her Women’s Global Development and Prosperity Initiative.
The proposed legislation the senators are introducing would make the economic empowerment of women a priority of U.S. foreign policy and ensure that the women’s initiative continues beyond the Trump administration. It would also establish an Office of Women’s Empowerment at the State Department.

China’s Response to the Killing of Soleimani
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: China and Iran have a close relationship, but Beijing’s influence over Tehran is questionable. Its response to the killing of Iranian Quds Force commander Qassem Soleimani offers clues to its view of its own role in the Middle East.
The January 3 US drone strike that killed Quds Force commander Qassem Soleimani, deputy commander of the Popular Recruiting Forces (al-Hashd ash-Sh’abi) Abu Mahdi al-Mohandes, and at least six other people took place just a few days after a joint maritime maneuver held by China, Russia, and Iran. This maneuver, ostensibly designed to train the forces of the three countries to work together, had another important role: to display that trilateral cooperation to the international arena. Yet despite that intention, a spokesman for the Chinese Ministry of Defense was careful to emphasize that the maneuver had “no connection with the regional situation”.
After the killing of Soleimani, the spokesman for the Chinese FM said, “We urge the parties involved, especially the US, to keep calm and restraint to avoid further escalation”. During a conversation between Chinese FM Wang Yi and his Iranian counterpart Muhammad Javad Zarif a day after the killing, Wang Yi said Beijing would continue to play a “constructive role in the region” and called the US action “unacceptable”.

In 2016, Donald Trump proved that money won’t buy you the Republican nomination. In 2020, his likely challengers are proving that not only can you buy the Democrat nomination, but it’s the best way.
Michael Bloomberg is making headlines for spending $300 million on advertising to buy third place. That doesn’t include the $10,000 spent on sushi, $250,000 on furniture, and six figure staffer salaries. With a $61 billion net worth, the billionaire just decided to buy the primaries. And his buying spree is working.
The Dems claim to hate billionaires, but two of them successfully bought into the race, Bloomberg and Steyer, while completely lacking the populist appeal that propelled Trump to the top. The Bloomberg-Steyer spending sprees have set off a dieback in the Dem 2020 race where only those candidates with lots of cash can even compete. Warren’s campaign is crumbling along with her financial prospects.
Steyer is cutting off Biden at the knees in South Carolina and Bloomberg will probably finish him on Super Tuesday. That will leave Buttigieg and Sanders as the only non-billionaires with a real shot.

This spying took place based on lies that Trump was colluding with Russia. The FBI knew this was not true before they pushed a warrant to spy on Trump in 2016 and later in 2017 after his inauguration!
No one has been criminally punished for this attempted coup — the greatest political scandal in US history!
During last week’s testimony Rep. John Ratcliffe (R-TX) questioned Wray about the FBI’s illegal surveillance on the Trump campaign and administration using FISA warrants based on lies.

The British government may be free from Europe thanks to Brexit, but it appears to be sliding into authoritarianism as it drafts regulations to crack down on freedom of speech.
Ofcom, the United Kingdom’s media watchdog, according to Forbes’ Feb. 12 coverage, “is to be given the power to regulate social media companies, holding them to account for harmful content.”
The UK has already reportedly threatened to begin jailing tech executives for not policing their own platforms enough. An April press release had established an Orwellian “duty of care,” which requires “companies to take reasonable steps to keep their users safe and tackle illegal and harmful activity on their services.” Forbes wrote that Digital media and culture secretary Nicky Morgan is introducing measures based on a government white paper launched in April last year. The “duty of care” concept is mentioned in its pages no less than 53 times.
This “Online Harms White Paper,” which was first released last April, also includes references to a similar German regulation “Network Enforcement Act (‘NetzDG’),” which can fine social media companies for up to 50 million Euros for failing to remove hate speech in compliance with German laws.
