It was the first ever lab in the country designed to meet biosafety-level-4 (BSL-4) standards – the highest biohazard level, meaning that it would be qualified to handle the most dangerous pathogens.
In January 2018, the lab was operational ‘for global experiments on BSL-4 pathogens,’ wrote Guizhen Wu in the journal Biosafety and Health. ‘After a laboratory leak incident of SARS in 2004, the former Ministry of Health of China initiated the construction of preservation laboratories for high-level pathogens such as SARS, coronavirus, and pandemic influenza virus,’ wrote Guizhen Wu.

Under Virginia bill, some teen killers would be allowed to carry a gun

Virginia’s legislature may make it easier for people who killed or raped as teens to later possess or transport a gun. Ironically, this is being proposed at the same time that the legislature is restricting gun possession by law-abiding adults.
Legislation sponsored by senior Democratic legislators would raise the age for trying many juveniles as adults from 14 to 16. It would also change the law to allow certain 14 or 15-year-olds who commit “murder,” “rape,” or “kidnapping,” to later “possess or transport” a gun.
The bill, HB 274, would limit the reach of the Virginia law restricting “Possession or transportation of firearms, firearms ammunition, stun weapons, explosives or concealed weapons by convicted felons,” by crossing out the word “14” and replacing it with “16.” As revised, that law, § 18.2-308.2(A), would read: “It shall be unlawful for … (ii) any person adjudicated delinquent as a juvenile 14 16 years of age or older at the time of the offense of murder in violation of § 18.2-31 or 18.2-32, kidnapping in violation of § 18.2-47, robbery … in violation of § 18.2-58, or rape in violation of § 18.2-61 … to knowingly and intentionally possess or transport any firearm.”
The bill is sponsored by freshman Delegate Joshua Cole (D-Fredericksburg) and is co-sponsored by senior Democratic delegates like Patrick Hope (D-Arlington), Marcus Simon (D-Falls Church), and Kaye Kory (D-Falls Church), as well as two members of the State Senate. One of those legislators, Delegate Hope, heads the House of Delegates’s “Public Safety” committee. So there could be a good chance that this bill will become law.

Appearing on“Meet the Press,” Schiff told Chuck Todd his conscience is clear with respect to both his “dramatic reading” of the transcript and his promotion of the Russia collusion hoax.
“Any regrets about either of those two moments, yourself?” Todd asked, specifically referring to the Russia collusion hoax and the made-up call transcript.
“No,” Schiff said without batting an eye. “And I’m glad you asked the question about collusion, because, again, they may be perpetuating the president’s talking points, but they’ve got it exactly wrong.”

The US military has joined an investigation into a plane that crashed in eastern Afghanistan on Monday.

The Cairo Criminal Court gave 29 others sentences ranging from 15 to 1 year in prison. It also acquitted seven others, including a soccer player, in the same case. The verdict can be appealed.
The court said the defendants were accused of forming and joining IS cells that were active in several provinces including the capital, Cairo, from 2015 to early 2018.

“A car carrying Syrians crashed early Monday in northern Greece, police said, injuring all 14 people in the vehicle that is believed to have crossed the border clandestinely .
Police said the car had been travelling along an old highway in northern Greece toward the country’s second-largest city of Thessaloniki around 2 a.m. when it failed to stop for a police check. The car’s driver then lost control of the vehicle and crashed.
Greek police said all were from Syria: 11 men, one woman and two teenage children. Eight, including the teenagers, were treated for their injuries in a hospital and released. The other six remained hospitalized, including the suspected driver, a 22-year-old man.
Thousands of migrants and refugees still arrive in Greece from neighboring Turkey each year. Most come by sea to the nearby Greek islands but others use the land border, wading, swimming or rowing across the river that divides Turkey and Greece. They then pack into smugglers’ cars and head to Greece’s cities.”

“One protester was killed by security forces after hundreds of anti-government protesters flooded the streets of Iraq’s capital and southern provinces on Sunday, defying a powerful Iraqi religious leader who recently withdrew his support from the popular movement.
Separately, five Katyusha rockets crashed into a riverbank near the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad’s heavily fortified Green Zone without causing any injuries or serious damages, a statement from U.S. Joint Operations Command said. One rocket landed inside the embassy walls, an Iraqi security official said. The official spoke on condition of anonymity in line with regulations.
It is the third such attack this month and the perpetrators were not immediately known.
Iraqi Prime Minister Adel Abdul-Mahdi condemned the rocket attack that targeted the U.S. Embassy. In a statement, he asserted Iraq’s commitment to “protecting all diplomatic missions.”
Security forces fired tear gas and live rounds to disperse the crowds from the capital’s Khilani Square, medical and security officials said. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity in line with regulations. One protester was killed and six wounded after security forces fired live rounds in nearby Wathba Square later in the evening.
At least 28 demonstrators were reported wounded by Iraqi security forces in the first hours of Sunday’s street rallies.
The mass protests started in October over widespread government corruption and a lack of public services and jobs. “Anti-Semitic acts increased in France last year by 27%, acts against Muslims inched higher while anti-Christian acts remained stable but highest of all, France’s interior minister said Sunday, denouncing the situation as intolerable.
On top of that, acts described as bearing a racist and xenophobic character, mostly threats, more than doubled between 2018 and 2019 — increasing from 496 to 1,142, according to a statement by Interior Minister Christophe Castaner.

Senior government officials inside the U.K. and Germany have claimed it’s possible to safely include Huawei in mobile networks, so long as it is restricted and kept away from “core” elements of the network. Senior Trump administration officials, and others like Turnbull, say this is not possible.
British and German officials also say they can’t afford to exclude Huawei. They say that doing so would leave their countries with unaffordable alternatives and would leave them behind in the global technology race.

Palestinians burn Trump dummy to protest ‘peace plan’
Hundreds of people protested against the Middle East ‘peace plan’ of US President Donald Trump in Gaza City on Monday.
On Monday, Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammed Shtayyeh called on international powers to boycott Trump’s ‘peace plan,’ seen by Palestinians as being biased towards Israel.
Trump’s plan is expected to weigh heavily in Israel’s favour, as Trump will attempt to forge peace in between Israel and Palestine.
Iran: March called after Zarif offers to negotiate with US
Hundreds of protesters gathered in front of Iran’s Foreign Ministry in Tehran on Monday, to condemn Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif’s remarks that Tehran was “still at the negotiating table” with the US during an interview on Friday.
Footage shows protesters chanting, holding signs and burning a US flag.
“We know him as the US’s and the UK foreign minister, not the one of Iran,” protester Fatemeh Ramezani said about Zarif.
“We have come here to say that we do not need an idiot and betraying minister. We need a minister who defends our nation’s rights against the US,” said protester Saghafi.
During an interview with Germany’s Der Spiegel on Friday, Zarif was asked if after the assassination of Iran’s General Qassem Soleimani he would exclude the possibility of negotiations with the US. Zarif answered that he would never exclude the possibility if the administration of US President Donald Trump could correct its past, “lift the sanctions and come back to the negotiating table.” Iran is “still at the negotiating table. They are the ones who left,” Zaif added.

It’s been about 10 years since the public discovered Fast and Furious, the gun walking operation conducted by the ATF under the Obama administration. The ATF arranged for straw buyers to purchase guns from American gun stores and transfer them to arms traffickers who would give them to drug cartels in Mexico. Ostensibly, the ATF would then track down the cartels. But they lost track of the guns, and some were used to kill Americans. Yet where are the prosecutions of the Obama officials who ran it? The victims and their families have never received justice. But they’re looking into it and speaking up.
The corrupt program initially received a lot of attention in 2010 after Border Patrol agent Brian Terry was murdered by a drug cartel. Guns transferred to Mexico from Fast and Furious were used to kill him. But the government has refused to provide the Terry family with full details of what happened, including Terry’s last emails. According to his brother Paul Terry, the family has a lawsuit against the government which has been ongoing for years.
Dawn Hobson’s son William Neil Anderson showed up dead shortly afterwards. Anderson worked with Terry, and had gone to Terry’s family after he died and let them know that what the government told them about his death wasn’t true. Hobson had a hard time time finding out how her son had died until she saw the death certificate, which said fentanyl poisoning. But that made no sense, since her son was very opposed to drug use. She had a medical examiner and some law enforcement agents examine the body and they said he was murdered. There was evidence of strangulation and asphyxiation. They think he was murdered by someone he worked with. Unfortunately, they are too terrified to go public about it.

Saudi Arabia to stop funding mosques in foreign countries

Former Saudi minister of justice, Mohammed Bin Abdul-Karim Issa, has announced that his country will stop funding mosques in foreign countries, Arabi21.com reported on Friday.
According to the Swiss newspaper, Le Matin Dimanche, Saudi Arabia is to establish local administrative councils for each mosque, in cooperation with the local authorities, in order to hand over these mosques to “secure hands”.
The minister added: “The time has come to hand over the Geneva Mosque to a Swiss administrative council that represents Muslims in the area. It should have an elected cleric.”

The Fifth Circuit Rejects the Lie of Transgender Pronouns

A victory for biological truth, and for linguistic truth
Cultural progressives, who reject the very humanity of unborn children but confidently assure us that there are upward of 70 distinct genders, tend to have an uneasy relationship with the truth. And the proliferation of transgender pronouns — the use of biologically inaccurate pronouns to describe those afflicted with gender dysphoria — is among the more pernicious tools in the broader arsenal that progressives use to have us question that truth.
Earlier this month, in U.S. v. Varner, a divided panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit boldly refused to appease those who would muddle truth. Over the dissent of a Clinton-nominated judge who used female pronouns in his opinion to refer to the biologically male defendant, the majority refused to subordinate the integrity of the judiciary to a litigant who had moved to require the court to address him as something other than what plain English would indicate he is. In so doing, the Fifth Circuit panel has provided a roadmap for how public officials interested in preserving the commonality and vitality of the English language can resist contemporary progressivism’s attempts to obfuscate truth through the propagation of biologically inaccurate and linguistically imprecise transgender pronouns.

TERRORISTIC THREATS BY OMAR’S ENFORCER
Yesterday afternoon the New York Post published Ebony Bowden story’s “FBI reviewing claims Ilhan Omar married her brother.” The Daily Mail quickly followed up with Lauren Fruen’s “FBI is looking into claims Ilhan Omar married her brother and ‘will share their findings with ICE.’”
Both of these stories are based on David Steinberg’s Blaze article “Finally. The Feds — including ICE — appear to be investigating Rep. Ilhan Omar.” I noted David’s article upon its publication last week in the post “David Steinberg reports: The Omar investigations.”
Bowden’s New York Post article was highlighted by Xerta Shekh on Facebook for XS’s many Somali readers. Omar must be feeling the heat. Beginning at 5:18 a.m. yesterday, Omar’s enforcer unleashed a wave of threatening posts on Facebook. These posts are public, they are vulgar (“This fucker thought that I am playing games with him[, b]ut surely he will pay,” for example) and they are, in my opinion, criminal insofar as they are meant to terrorize their specific target and others who have seen them.

U.S. Supreme Court allows Trump’s ‘public charge’ immigration curb

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – The U.S. Supreme Court gave the go-ahead on Monday for one of President Donald Trump’s hardline immigration policies, allowing his administration to implement a rule denying legal permanent residency to certain immigrants deemed likely to require government assistance in the future.
The justices, on a 5-4 vote, granted the administration’s request to lift a lower court’s injunction that had blocked the so-called public charge policy, which has been criticised by immigrant rights advocates as a “wealth test” that would disproportionately keep out non-white immigrants.
The court’s five conservative justices, including Chief Justice John Roberts, carried the day. The court’s four liberal justices said they would have denied the administration’s request to put the injunction on hold. The action was announced even as Roberts sat as the presiding officer in Trump’s impeachment trial in the U.S. Senate.
