Outrage as Non-Muslim Teachers Don Islamic Veils in Protest Against Local Ban in Sweden (sputniknews, Jan 15, 2020)

“While the teachers themselves interpreted their action as a token of solidarity with Muslim students, netizens minced no words, calling them “idiots” and suggesting they promoted the oppression of women.
Following a proposal by the right-wing Sweden Democrats, the municipality of Skurup in southern Sweden has introduced a ban on religious headgear in its primary schools and preschools. In protest, non-Muslim teachers chose to put on veils.
The ban, backed by the liberal-conservative Moderates and the local Skurup party, applies to both children and staff. According to the newspaper Aftonbladet, it “stirred up emotions”, as protests by Malmö’s Young Muslims and counter-protests were held outside Skurup’s town hall.
Tasnim Raoof, the chair of Malmö’s Young Muslims, suggested the ban was “racist” as it “denied Muslim women’s right to their bodies and their democratic freedom of choice”.
A dozen counter-protesters chanted slogans like “Freedom for Swedes” and “Close Islam”. According to the police, the demonstration gathered some 250 participants and went quietly except for one incident in which one of the counter-protesters had their placard destroyed.
Later, six non-Muslim teachers at Prästamosseskolan School donned veils to show their support to Muslim students.
“The students get excited when they see that we also have veils. They feel that we support them,” teacher Marit, who teaches Swedish as a second language, told Aftonbladet.
Prästamosseskolan headmaster Mattias Liedholm said that he refuses to comply with the municipality’s decision.
“Neither I nor any of my colleagues will enforce it. Then it becomes a matter of personnel for the municipality to handle,” he said.
Andreas Lindholm, a lawyer with the Swedish National Agency for Education, suggested that a blanket ban on headdress is contrary to the European Convention on Freedom of Religion.
Sweden Democrats group leader Lars Nyström explained that the idea of the ban is to protect women from oppression.
“The basic attitude is that we believe that boys and girls are just as worthy and wearing clothes to hide women’s faces and hair that does not belong in Skurup municipality,” Lars Nyström said.
According to him, the ban will be implemented within six months. While he also expected the school staff to comply with the decision, local teacher Naouel Aissaoui pledged to stop working in Skurup if the ban is enforced.
The ban and the protests have sparked a debate on social media.
“The European Convention on Human Rights, which stands above Swedish law, has already decided that veils are inappropriate for teachers at the school. Skurup must comply with ECHR,” blogger, journalist and author Katerina Janouch suggested.
?“Dress codes for girls and women to cover their heads, wear long sleeves and not show the ankles is tantamount to oppression that doesn’t belong in a secular country. Let girls and women their hair wave freely in the wind, and remember that in today’s Iran brave women protest and take off their veils despite threats of punishment,” another user tweeted.

Others went so far as to call the teachers “idiots” and “medieval”, suggesting that they supported the oppression of women.
Skurup is the seat of Skurup Municipality in Skåne County and is home to over 15,700 inhabitants. In the 2018 election, the Sweden Democrats made major gains in Skurup.
The party went from 20.4 percent to 26.1 percent of the vote, edging out its competitors.
Previously, Staffanstorp Municipality in the very same Skåne County banned Islamic headwear up to sixth grade, in a move aimed to counter “honour culture”.
The number of Muslims in Sweden has soared in recent decades, from merely about 500 Muslims in 1950s to over 800,000, or amounting to 8.1 percent of the population today, according to Pew Research Centre.”

“For 32-year-old Iranian Shohreh Bayat, the Women’s World Chess Championship was meant to be a career highlight.
It is her first time as the event’s chief arbiter – a senior role.
But that achievement has been clouded by controversy after the circulation of a photograph taken at game in Shanghai that appears to show Ms Bayat without a headscarf, as her country mandates.
She now feels unsafe to return to Iran, where women can be arrested for violating strict Islamic dress code.
“I turned on my mobile and saw that my picture was everywhere [in Iranian media]. They were claiming I was not wearing a headscarf and that I wanted to protest against the hijab,” Ms Bayat told the BBC.
She says she was, in fact, covering her head as she always has at international tournaments, despite disagreeing with the rule.
‘Women should have right to choose’
“It’s against my beliefs. People should have the right to choose the way they want to dress, it should not be forced,” she explained, speaking from Vladivostok in eastern Russia, where she is now refereeing the second leg of the World Championship.
“I was tolerating it because I live in Iran. I had no other choice.”
But this time Ms Bayat has run into serious problems.
The photographs circulating online and being discussed by Iran’s state media show Ms Bayat’s scarf apparently draped over her shoulders and not over her hair. In other pictures from the same day, her head is clearly – albeit loosely – covered.
Ms Bayat says Iran’s chess federation instructed her to “write something” in response to the fuss, which she took to mean an apology and a defence of Iran’s dress code.
She refused.
So now she says it’s too risky to return to her family…”

Iran announced on Saturday that its military “unintentionally” shot down the Ukrainian jetliner on January 8, killing all 176 aboard, after the government had repeatedly denied Western accusations that it was responsible.
A video that has gone viral shows the missile targeting the airplane shortly after it took off from Tehran’s Imam Khomeini International airport.
According to the BBC, Iranian media reported that Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) had taken a person who posted a video online last week of the missile striking the plane into custody.
An Iranian journalist based in London, who the BBC said initially posted the footage online, said in a Twitter post that authorities had arrested the wrong person.
“The person who is the source of the video is SAFE and I can assure you IRGC is orchestrating another lie,” Nariman Gharib said in the tweet.
Another video published by the New York Times Tuesday shows verified security camera footage showing two missiles gliding through the sky before hitting the passenger jet.
Iran announced on Tuesday several arrests had been made in connection to the atrocity, but no further details were shared.”

Two of the suspects reportedly passed private and official information to the Chinese Ministry of State Security, while the other one only expressed readiness to do so.
At the request of the federal prosecutor’s office, police, since morning, have been conducting searches at nine sites in Berlin, Brussels, as well as the German states of Baden-Wurttemberg and Bavaria. The raids are underway in homes and offices of the suspects.
The investigation, according to the German newspaper, centres around an ex-European Commission official, who also served in the European External Action Service.
The man, in particular, used to serve as EU ambassador in several countries. In 2017, he finished his career and started working for a lobbying company.
The same year, investigators believe, he began transferring certain information to China and recruited two of his colleagues, one of them even went to China for a meeting. The lobbying firm in question reportedly used to consult leading German companies.”

The US had been negotiating a ceasefire with the Taliban leaders, who control large parts of Afghanistan, but talks ended abruptly in September 2019 when President Donald Trump called them off following the killing of several people, including an American soldier, in an attack reportedly claimed by the Taliban.

During an interactive session of the Raisina Dialogue – 2020 in New Delhi on Wednesday, Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif cautioned the US to think very carefully about what it was doing in the Middle East and warned Washington to avoid committing one mistake after another.
Zarif elaborated on the recent developments in Iran and its extended neighbourhood following Quds Force chief Major General Qasem Soleimani’s assassination by the US, and said it reflected a very serious problem in America’s thinking on the region.

“That tells you that you can’t bring nine million people on to the streets with force; it does not happen, (but) you certainly cannot bring people – 8,000 people in Delhi, 9,000 people in Mumbai; you cannot bring them out by any proxy measure,” Zarif said.
Responding to repeated US claims that Iran’s military leadership has been operating across the Middle East through proxies, Zarif said: “The US talks about proxies. Do we have proxies in India?”
India maintained that it would like the situation to de-escalate and has been in touch with Iran and other key players in the region, including the United Arab Emirates, Oman and Qatar.
Soleimani was killed in a US drone strike at the Baghdad International Airport on 3 January that was ordered by US President Donald Trump. The attack, which was blasted by Tehran as an act of terror, prompted Iran to retaliate a few days later by launching dozens of missiles at military bases housing US troops in Iraq. There were no casualties in the strikes, which the Iranian side described as “legitimate self-defence”.”

The three terrorists who were killed during the encounter were identified as Hizb commander Omar Fayaz (alias Hamad Khan), Adil Bashir (alias Abu Dujana) and Faizan Hameed.
The disputed territory of Kashmir has been a bone of contention between the two Asian giants and is sparking tension among the two. India and Pakistan have been divided by a Line of Control (LoC), a de-facto border existing between them.
Both nuclear-armed nations are at odds with each other since 14 February 2019 when 40 Indian security personnel were killed in a suicide bombing attack in Kashmir. A Pakistan-based terror group claimed responsibility for the bombing.
In August, India revoked Article 370 that provided special status to Kashmir and rendered it into a federally administered union territory. This resulted in Pakistan raising the matter on the international level. Both the nations claim Kashmir in full but rule it in part.
Designated as a Foreign Terrorist Organization on 17 August 2017, Hizbul Mujahideen seeks autonomy for Kashmir from the Indian Union and is said to a Kashmiri militant group founded in 1989.”

Russian government resigns, after President Putin’s State-of-the-Nation Address proposes changes to the constitution
Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev has announced that the entire government is resigning in a surprise statement released shortly after President Vladimir Putin delivered his annual state-of-the-nation address.
Accepting the resignation, Putin thanked ministers for their hard work and asked them to function as a caretaker government until a new one can be formed.
Medvedev and Putin had met for a work meeting to discuss the state-of-the-nation address earlier on Wednesday, the Kremlin said. Medvedev explained that this cabinet is resigning in accordance with Article 117 of the Russian Constitution, which states that the government can offer its resignation to the president, who, in turn, can either accept or reject it.

“The Swedish Prosecutor’s Office has announced ten new investigations into Islamic State members who have returned to Sweden in connection to allegations of war crimes and crimes against humanity.
Prosecutor Thomas Ahlstrand made the announcement to Swedish media this week saying that National Unity Against International and Organised Crime was conducting the investigations against the suspects who currently live in Stockholm, Gothenburg, Malmö, and Bergslagen, broadcaster SVT reports.
“I think I have indications of participation in the Islamic State and that means I have a reasonable reason to suspect a crime. It can possibly be anything from participation in combat to civil action, participation in the slave trade or similar situations that occurred there,” Ahlstrand said.
The prosecutor noted that the investigations and potential prosecutions could be a complex affair, stating: “It is another country, language, and culture. It’s not just driving around Raqqa and knocking on doors and asking people if they have seen anything in the parking lot. There is a completely different type of work required and then it becomes much more difficult.”
Sweden has had some issues on what to do with returning Islamic State fighters and members in the past, with some advocating for their reintegration into Swedish society while others, such as terror expert Magnus Ranstorp, have said the government should not let them back in as the country lacks sufficient laws to prosecute them.
According to a new report from Sveriges Radio, Islamic State returnees in the city of Linköping will be reported to the police, no matter what they claim their views toward the terror group are upon their return.
“We will make a police report regardless of the attitude the people have, as they are suspected of being guilty of war crimes,” said Linköping municipal security strategist Håkan Carlberg.
Prior reports have indicated that returnees have been recruiting in underground mosques in the city of Malmö, and others have been found guilty of various crimes following their return to Sweden.”

Cybersecurity firm claiming Russia hacked Burisma has ties to Democrats, CrowdStrike

The co-founder of a security firm behind reports suggesting Russia is targeting the company that employed Hunter Biden previously worked with a group at the center of Democratic National Committee email hacks in 2016, according to a Daily Caller News Foundation analysis.
Area 1 co-founder Brad Darche worked as a consultant with CrowdStrike, a group responsible for not doing more to prevent Russians from gaining access to DNC emails ahead of the 2016 election, the group’s website shows. Nearly half of the 2020 presidential candidates are reportedly using the group’s services.
The group published a report Monday suggesting Russian hackers wormed their way inside Ukrainian energy company Burisma in November. Burisma employed Biden between 2014 and 2019. Former Vice President Joe Biden’s son’s work with Burisma has thrust the Democrat into the heart of an impeachment trial targeting President Donald Trump.

“A warning by Iran’s president that European forces in the Middle East could be at risk if their nations join the U.S. pressure campaign against the Islamic Republic puts a focus on thousands of foreign troops in the region.
Britain, France, and Germany have spent months trying to preserve the 2015 nuclear deal after President Donald Trump unilaterally abandoned it in 2018. But on Tuesday, the European Union initiated a dispute resolution mechanism to try to bring Iran back into compliance after Tehran began openly breaching some restrictions last summer.
Iran says it should not be bound to the agreement since the U.S. reimposed crippling sanctions. After a U.S. airstrike in Iraq killed Tehran’s top general, Iran responded by firing ballistic missiles at U.S. troops stationed there. No one was hurt in the missile attacks.
“Today, the American soldier is in danger, tomorrow the European soldier could be in danger,” President Hassan Rouhani said at a Cabinet meeting without elaborating.

IRAQ
Britain, France and Germany are all part of the U.S.-led coalition that is fighting the Islamic State group. Britain has about 400 troops based in Iraq while Germany has nearly 450 troops deployed to counter IS and to train Iraqi forces. Germany “temporarily” withdrew 35 of its troops from Iraq after Iranian Gen. Qassem Soleimani was killed on Jan. 3 in the U.S. drone strike. Most were flown to Jordan, where Germany also has troops involved in reconnaissance and refueling flights for the anti-IS coalition. France has about 1,000 troops in the region to help combat IS in Iraq and Syria.
The European Union as a bloc has several dozen personnel in Baghdad working on security sector reform and advising the Interior Ministry. European Commission spokesman Peter Stano said officials are aware of the threats, but that “we, as the EU, are not leaving Iraq.”

THE GULF
Britain operates a naval base in Bahrain that can house up to 500 British military personnel and is focused on maritime security. It also has a joint training base in Oman. France has a naval base known as Camp Peace in Abu Dhabi’s Port Zayed, which houses some 700 French troops. Britain and France also station troops at U.S. bases in the region.

The NATO mission in Afghanistan consists of about 17,000 troops from 39 allied and partner countries. The alliance formally concluded its combat mission at the end of 2014 and provides advice and training to Afghan forces. Britain has nearly 1,000 troops in Afghanistan and Germany has about 1,100.

Iran: Rouhani warns US, EU troops “may be in danger” in the Middle East
Iranian president Hassan Rouhani warned that US troops were ‘in danger’ in the in Middle East and that EU troops ‘might be in danger tomorrow.’ Rouhani was speaking at a cabinet meeting in Tehran on Wednesday.
“We do not want insecurity in the world. We want you to leave but not with war. We want you to leave this region wisely and it will be in your interest,” said Rouhani.
Rouhani also criticised UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s call to replace the 2015 nuclear agreement with a new ‘Trump deal’.
Commenting on the Iran’s shooting down of a Ukrainian airliner on January 8, Rouhani called on the military to take the next steps in the investigation.
“No one can believe that a passenger airplane was targeted next to the international airport within the flight route,” the president said, adding “it has not ever happened in Iran’s history before.”
The plane crashed minutes after take-off from Tehran’s Imam Khomeini International Airport, on January 8, killing all 176 passengers and crew on board. A diplomatic spat ensued as Western leaders blamed Iran for shooting down the plane, which Iran denied at first. On January 11, Iran’s military admitted “unintentionally” shooting down the plane.

Rouhani said it is not possible to run the country with just one faction in power.

Seventeen candidates from how many parties? From one party? This is not an election.”
He compared it to a store placing 1,000 copies of the same item on its shelves and telling customers they have a diverse selection to pick from.

Guardian Council spokesman Abbas Ali Kadkhodaei criticized Rouhani’s remarks. In a tweet, he said that controversy around the vetting of candidates is nothing new, “but the president’s initiation of this anti-national project is regrettable.”

Egypt has for years been battling an insurgency in northern Sinai that is now led by an Islamic State affiliate. The fighting intensified in 2013, after the military overthrew the country’s elected but divisive Islamist president, Mohammed Morsi.
Authorities heavily restrict access to that part of Sinai, making it difficult to verify claims related to the fighting.

Energy Idiocracy: Global Policymakers are Creating More Problems Than Solutions By Embracing Renewables
What we are seeing is “a first-world problem” that is obsessed with global warming/climate change instead of being concerned with the two billion people globally without electricity.
The United Nations Environment Programme and partner organizations determined in a recent report “the world’s nations are on track to produce more than twice as much coal, oil, and gas as can be burned in 2030.” The British Petroleum (BP) Statistical Review of World Energy 2019 states that “Total global proved reserves of oil—that is the volumes that can be recovered from known reservoirs under existing economic and operating condition—stood at 1.730 trillion barrels at the end of 2018.”
Peak oil projections have been proven false and consumption is growing according to the International Energy Agency’s (IEA) latest projections. Moreover, America’s CO2 emissions rose in 2018 by 2.7 percent for the first time over increased economic growth since 2014, according to the Energy Information Administration (EIA). The uptick came from “higher natural gas-related emissions, but coal emissions fell by 4 percent.”
Increased U.S. renewable usage from sun and wind farms aided emission growth since solar panels and wind turbines are intermittent energy to electricity sources that need continual fossil fuel backup from coal and natural gas-fired power plants.
Fossil fuel production will outpace Paris Climate Agreement (PCA) reductions that target to keep temperature increases under 1.5 degrees Celsius or at 2 degrees Celsius, which are pre-industrial levels. Growing prosperity in China, India, Africa, and the United States will fuel production gains and override PCA agreement accords.
This analysis is based on energy policy from eight of the largest fossil fuel producers in the world: “Australia, Canada, Russia, United States, China, India, Indonesia, and Norway.” These eight countries constitute 60 percent of global fossil fuel production. Middle Eastern countries such as Saudi Arabia and Iran do not release production numbers.
The booming Asian hemisphere (called the “Asian Century”) is using more oil, coal, and natural gas today and into the projected future. Whereas new clean energy investments “fell by more than a fifth, coal-fired power generation jumped to a new high last year.” That means renewables are not overtaking fossil fuels anytime soon; evidenced by coal-fired power generation “accounted for 47% of all power generation across 104 countries.” India’s growing population of over one billion people have confirmed coal is their energy mainstay for the next thirty years.
IEA chief Fatih Birol recently said that “the U.S. will make up most of global oil supply growth.” This boom in U.S. shale exploration and production (E&P) that began during the Obama administration continues upending and changing global, geopolitics in unexpected ways that don’t involve traditional militaries or large-scale global conflicts. This is positive for global economic prosperity.
The only counter to increased fossil fuel usage to achieve a zero-carbon society is nuclear energy. If fossil fuels are growing, then nuclear energy to combat rising emissions is the best energy to electrical option available.
But global policymakers are causing more problems than solutions by embracing renewables and banning fossil fuel E&P. The U.S. and Europe’s Green New Deal is based on faulty scientific evidence that causes environmental leaders like Michael Shellenberger to dispute its viability.
Embracing renewables results in damages to the environment from “millions of toxic wind turbine blades sent to landfills” to electrical grid blackouts in Australia, Great Britain and New York City (and a $6 billion ratepayer, wind subsidy, cost overcharge) to a Texas city enduring surging electricity costs from going 100 percent renewable. We are now witnessing wind power disasters in Canada, Europe, Germany, and Ireland. The environmental cleanup costs for renewables are higher than fossil fuels compared to the taxpayer and ratepayer subsidies renewables receive.
Leading U.S. Democratic presidential candidates want to eliminate fossil fuels by replacing them with renewables according to environmentalist Paul Driessen without understanding the consequences of how fossil fuels affect every part of our lives.
Consider this, hydraulic fracturing (fracking) is “under fire in California,” (the fifth largest economy in the world) without explaining how this economically robust state replace more than six thousand products that originate from a barrel of crude oil? These decisions cause companies like international, financial giant Charles Schwab to leave California.
The U.S. left wants to decarbonize and electrify America without understanding electricity is not a stand-alone energy source. Also, the left wants to replace fossil fuels with renewables. The sun and wind for energy to electricity run into problems over being chaotically intermittent and mathematically unstable. There are only two proven ways to reduce emissions and deliver electricity: natural gas-fired and nuclear power plants.
From Berkeley, California, to Brookline, Massachusetts, lawmakers have voted to ban natural gas. This decision will economically depress each city. For example, the electrification needs of Massachusetts are 50 percent met by natural gas and the state is now facing a shortfall over banning new pipelines. Massachusetts now imports 12 percent of its natural gas from Russia.
What we are seeing is “a first-world problem” that is obsessed with global warming/climate change instead of being concerned with the two billion people globally without electricity.
Shockingly, the United States could literally turn off the entire country from any source of fossil fuels, and global emissions would still grow according to U.S. Congressional testimony in 2017. The reason why is “one of the biggest sources of carbon dioxide emissions is developing countries.”
This questions the validity of man-made climate change and how “scientific breakthrough,” such as carbon-capture technology coming from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, is the answer for rising emissions. It’s difficult to trust climate-naysayers when every apocalyptic prediction from the last fifty years has never come true.
This fall five hundred atmospheric scientists, engineers and related professionals, known as the Friends of Science, sent a registered letter to the UN Secretary-General “stating that there is no climate emergency and climate policies should be designed to benefit the lives of people.”
This end-game of ridding the world of six thousand products, affordable electricity, economic growth, and global security is on the line without any answers for how to replace fossil fuels with solar panels, wind turbines, and electric vehicles.

How Qassem Soleimani Forced Donald Trump Back into the Middle East
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: Qassem Soleimani was emboldened by the US administration’s failure to respond to repeated Iranian efforts to destabilize the Persian Gulf—so much so that he felt it was safe to attack Americans directly in Iraq. President Trump, who so recently was eager to leave the Middle East, ordered the killing of Soleimani in retaliation—drawing the US back into the Middle East.
During his presidential campaign in 2016, Donald Trump promised to end America’s “countless wars” in the Middle East. He found support among some military leaders who worried that the burden of the war on terror was distracting from new strategic challenges posed by China and Russia.
Following Trump’s election, a new National Defense Strategy was announced that indicated a pivot away from the war on terror, and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Mark Milley moved quickly to implement that pivot. The Africa Command was affected, with US forces stationed in places where Russia and China threaten American interests. Trump’s abrupt withdrawal from Syria (subsequently reversed) was part of the same policy.

Sheikh Mohammed Mutumba, 27, found out the truth when his bride was caught stealing a TV from a neighbour and was searched by police.
The thief later admitted pretending to be a woman so he could marry the imam and steal his money, local media in Kayunga reported.
Shocked Mutumba has been suspended from his duties as a cleric at the Kyampisi Masjid Noor mosque while an investigation is carried out.
He claimed he hadn’t been intimate with his ‘wife’ since the wedding two weeks before because she told him she was menstruating.
Mutumba said he thought he was marrying a woman called Swabullah Nabukeera when they wed in a traditional Islamic ceremony in December.
Her true identity was exposed when she was arrested for the theft of a television set and clothes from his next door neighbors.

Amisi Kibunga, who also works at the mosque, said: ‘He had a sweet soft voice and walked like a woman.’
Kibunga also revealed that Mutumba had complained four days after the wedding that his new bride refused ‘to undress while they slept.’
The suspect later told police his real name was Richard Tumushabe and he admitted he married Mutumba in a bid to steal the cleric’s money.
Local Muslim official Sheikh Abdul Noor Kakande said the ‘unfortunate’ incident was being investigated.
Mosque officials said they suspended the imam despite confirming he had entered the marriage thinking Nabukeera was a woman.
The mosque’s head imam, Sheikh Isa Busuulwa, said the suspension was necessary to ‘preserve the integrity of their faith.’
He said Mutumba had worked at the mosque for four years and was one of its three imams.
The head cleric added that though he had attended Mutumba’s marriage reception, the mosque had not been involved in the wedding celebrations.
Local news reporters from The Daily Monitor tried to contact Mutumba at his home but neighbors said he had not been seen for days and was staying with relatives while receiving counseling.

Virginia Gov. Northam’s Capitol Square Gun Ban Has Increased the Chances of Violence on Monday

Actor Robert De Niro, in case you didn’t know, is also a constitutional scholar.
The “Goodfellas” star thinks President Trump will flout the Constitution because he will “likely start a war” in order to stay in the White House for 12 years.
“He’s going to be history at one point, though he’d love to be president for life,” De Niro recently told The Daily Beast. “He jokes about it. I think that if he became president for a second term, he’d try to have a third term, and let smarter people manipulate it into getting us into some kind of altercation: a war.”
The presidential historian bloviated on. “The only other president who served a third term was [Franklin D.] Roosevelt because he was in a war, and this fool would go and start something. This was what [film director] Marty Scorsese was saying, and I said, ‘Marty, I never thought of that. I never thought he’d go for a third term if there was a war or something,’” De Niro said.
CNN’s S.E. Cupp, who hosts a weekend show called “Unfiltered,” recently took to Twitter to pass along the theory that Trump will try to demand a third term.

“A British university is paying students to spy on their classmates and report them for any language they deem to be a teeny bit offensive.
According to the BBC:
The University of Sheffield is to pay students to tackle so-called “microaggressions” — which it describes as “subtle but offensive comments”.
They will be trained to “lead healthy conversations” about preventing racism on campus and in student accommodation.
Vice-chancellor Koen Lamberts said the initiative wanted to “change the way people think about racism”.
The students will be paid £9.34 per hour as “race equality champions”, working between two and nine hours per week to tackle “microaggressions” in the university.
The university has provided some examples of what microaggressions look like:
“Stop making everything a race issue”
“Why are you searching for things to be offended about?”
“Where are you really from?”
“I don’t want to hear about your holiday to South Africa. It’s nowhere near where I’m from”
“Being compared to black celebrities that I look nothing like”
One of the student spymasters, a Malaysian girl called Santhana Gopalakrishnan, has written a piece for a left-wing freesheet explaining that there is nothing sinister or oppressive about this.
Her apologia begins:
“This isn’t about silencing people. We want to give students the tools to think critically about perceptions of racism in our society.”
She then goes on to give some examples of the kind of terrible “microaggressions” she has experienced personally and which, she claims, made her feel uncomfortable.
“How are you Malaysian? You look Indian” or “Your English is so good!” or “Do they have wifi where you come from?” and even “Is it true Malaysians live on trees?”
As well as spying on their classmates for acts of unintentional offence, the student Stasi operatives will earn their blood money in a number of other diverse ways.

It’s also about leading healthy conversations in our student residences and across campus, using content created by a wide range of students and academic experts at the University. Students respond well to their peers so training students to lead this work feels like a way we can make a real impact.

“A report commissioned by the Mayor of Greater Manchester found that police systematically overlooked crimes committed by an “Asian” grooming gang for fear of appearing racist.
In the early 2000s, a grooming gang comprised of 97 men from South Asian backgrounds was able to roam free in Manchester, abusing at least 57 young girls, as members of the Greater Manchester Police (GMP) were told to focus on apprehending offenders of “other ethnicities”.
“What had a massive input was the offending target group were predominantly Asian males and we were told to try and get other ethnicities,” said an unnamed GMP detective constable, per The Telegraph.
Members of the “Asian” paedophile ring sexually abused young girls, using drugs to make their victims compliant, leading to the death of a 15-year-old girl, Victoria Agoglia, who was injected with heroin by a 50-year-old man, leading to an overdose which killed her in 2003.
At the time of her death, Agoglia was under the care of Manchester City Council, which the report claims was privy to “multiple threats, sexual assaults and serious sexual exploitation”.
The report admits the council did nothing to prevent her death and that her murderer remains unpunished to this day.
The inquiry into police negligence in investigating grooming gangs was sparked by a former GMP detective, Maggie Oliver, who said that the report “vindicated” the cause she had been fighting for 15 years.
“Girls were lost to the wind. What has been the cost of all these lives? We will never be able to put a number on how many lives have been lost,” said Oliver.
“I want the law changing so there can be retrospective accountability for people whose duty it is to protect the vulnerable. It’s knowing and deliberate neglection of duty… [those who were involved] should be charged with gross misconduct — it’s criminal — where is the accountability?” the former detective aasked.
Maggie Oliver said that her concerns over the grooming gangs were ignored by the upper echelons of the police force, who she claims said: “Stupid woman, she’s become too emotionally involved.”
“There will be other people in their own force areas who see similar things; I encourage them to stand up and speak up. This has been [my] life for 15 years, it’s destroyed my life but I don’t regret it because we’ve made the public aware that this is the truth. I think the establishment will do half the job if they can get away with it,” she concluded.
Assistant Chief Constable Mabs Hussain said in response to the report: “We accept that authorities fell short of doing all they could to protect and support the child victims of sexual exploitation.”
In 2017, the counter-extremism think tank Quilliam found that 84 per cent of those connected in grooming gang crimes in the United Kingdom were Muslim men with South Asian roots.
The report, which documented testimonies from grooming gang members during court proceedings, found that the men calculatedly targeted white girls for their sexual abuse as they were seen as “easy targets” compared to girls from their own communities, who they felt should be “protected”.”
