Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

  1. Photo-Ops Notwithstanding, Iran Faces the US Alone

    EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: Iran is now assessing whether it should retaliate further against the US for the targeting of Qassem Soleimani, and if so, how. Its relationships with Russia and Turkey might look warm, but they are troubled. Neither is likely to leap to Tehran’s side in its clash with the US. Israel should exploit Iran’s fissures with Russia and Turkey to its advantage.

    The era of superpower confrontation hardly elicits nostalgia. The Cold War did, however, possess one redeeming quality: clarity. It was relatively easy to identify friends and form alliances to cement those relationships. This was clearly the case in the Middle East: Syria, Iraq, Nasser’s Egypt, and Algeria were clearly on the Soviet side; Israel, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, the Gulf States, and Morocco were on the Western side.

    In today’s Middle East, that clarity has given way to murk.

    Consider the numerous summits between Vladimir Putin, Iranian president Hassan Rouhani, and Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdo?an to broker truces in Syria. They all feature plenty of smiles and photos of handshakes.

    And there is some substance to that warmth. Turkey, after all, purchased the Russian S-400 air-defense system in defiance of Washington. Trump, long regarded as a friend of Erdo?an’s, retaliated by scuttling the sale of F-35s to Turkey—a wise precaution, as Washington cannot possibly sell planes designed to avoid the S-400 to a country that may well turn around and use its access to those planes to help the Russians improve their ability to down it.

    Russia presumably enjoys a warm relationship with Iran as well, at least on the nuclear front. It embraced the nuclear agreement of 2015 and staunchly and consistently denounced economic sanctions against Iran in both 2012, when they were originally imposed, and in 2017, when they were reapplied.

    The same can be said of Turkish-Iranian relations. Ankara is often blamed for being a commercial and financial conduit that enables Tehran to ease the bite of the US-led sanctions. Istanbul Airport is Iran’s primary gateway to Europe.

    But the actions of these three countries in the wars on the ground in the Middle East tell a different story.

  3. LIBYANS PROCLAIM: THE FUTURE OF LIBYA IS IN OUR HANDS
    The Libyan People’s Army, also known as the LNA has refused to sign any agreement that benefits the terrorists militias of the Tripoli illegitimate GNA regime and their Turkish masters at the expense of the Libyan people. To understand what is happening in Libya is very simple: “Libyans are fighting to cleanse their country of terrorists, this is NOT a tribal war or a CIVIL war” The Libyan people are so angry at the western countries having meetings about the fate of their country while they have no voice. Mainly though they are angry that these countries dare step forward and think that the Libyan people would ever listen to them or have anything to do with them. For example, Germany who is hosting a “Berlin Conference” regarding the fate of Libya when it was Merkel who laughed and congratulated the US on the assassination of Ghadafi. Don’t ever think the Libyans will forget the huge crime committed against their country and who was involved. They regard the negotiations as illegitimate and they will not listen to any recommendations of any country involved in the destruction of their beloved country. And Turkey being at any negotiation regarding Libya is absurd. Erdogan has made his intentions clear, he wants to own Libya. What we are watching now is the circus of international politics. Each country attempting to bring their importance into the light of the world, intruding their proverbial noses into a country that does not need or want their input. In this case, the idiocy and hypocrisy of all of this talk of a truce or ceasefire is striking. As for the Great Tribes of Libya representing all the Libyan people, they tell me, pay no attention to the world and its words, we will decide how to clean our country, we will take back our sovereignty. They fight for their great Al Fateh revolution, for their great leader Moammar Ghadafi, who gave them their lives, their dignity their freedom and their sovereignty. JoanneM

    There are a lot of statistics Mark A. Morgan, acting U.S. Customs and Border Protection commissioner, uses to show how Trump policies have helped to cut illegal immigration into the United States. But there are two that he feels really make clear the victory his agency has had in the past year, and he highlighted them in a small meeting Tuesday. First is daily apprehensions, a number that hit 4,600 at the height of the latest crisis in May. That has now dropped to 1,300. What’s more, he said, the 21-daily average is below 1,000, a 78% cut. “That’s a dramatic reduction,” he said, in updating the numbers released last week.     While the US government decides on a course of action with regards to Iran, the Islamic and Marxist Counter-States inside America continue to roll forward unimpeded. If U.S. leaders understood America is in a war against Marxists and jihadis joined together in a knock-down-drag-out fight to destroy liberty and the American Republic, they would never surrender to our enemies by allowing the Impeachment articles to go to the U.S. Senate.     “Saudi Arabia issued on Monday a new warning to its citizens against making investments in Turkey.

    The Kingdom’s embassy in Ankara called on potential Saudi investors to completely study relevant laws and regulations in the country before carrying out any investment.

    It urged them against falling for “untrusted marketing ploys that could leave them victim to fraud and scammers.”

    Furthermore, it called on Saudis who are facing problems with property owners to first contact the embassy or Saudi consulate in Istanbul that will inform them of the necessary legal proceedings.

    The missions will also help them determine the credibility of the companies the investors are working with and provide them with legal consul from trusted offices.

    Saudi Arabia had previously issued numerous warnings to its citizens in Turkey, urging them to be alert of robberies. It cited incidents in which Saudis had fallen victim to theft and mugging.

    The Kingdom had urged them to keep their passports and valuable possessions in safe locations and to contact the diplomatic missions in case of emergencies.”

    “Amnesty International said Wednesday it had evidence Iranian security personnel used “unlawful force” over the weekend during peaceful protests after Tehran admitted it accidentally shot down a Ukrainian airliner.

    The rights group cited verified images and eyewitness testimonies indicating authorities had targeted protesters with rubber bullets, tear gas and pepper spray, along with pointed airgun pellets normally used for hunting.

    It said security forces also beat demonstrators with batons, kicked and punched them and made arbitrary arrests during protests on Saturday and Sunday.

    A Ukraine International Airlines plane was shot down by a missile shortly after takeoff from Tehran on January 8, killing all 176 passengers and crew on board.

    Iran initially dismissed Western claims it was brought down by a missile before admitting it on Saturday.

    The blunder and the official response sparked four consecutive nights of protests.

    Amnesty cited verified videos in which people helping the wounded are heard saying they had been shot, as well as X-rays showing pellets lodged in two protesters’ legs.

    It added that the Iranian security and intelligence forces were “maintaining a heavy presence in some hospitals raising fears they plan to arrest patients”.

    The London-based rights group said that “in many cases the actions by the security forces violated the absolute prohibition of torture and other ill-treatment under international law”.

    Several protesters had not sought hospital treatment for pellet wounds for fear of being detained, it added, while some facilities in Tehran had turned away the wounded, warning they could be arrested.

    Amnesty cited an eyewitness identified as Mahsa from Tehran, who said security forces had fired tear gas into the entrance of a metro station to stop people joining the protest.

    “A member of the security forces chased me when they saw me filming the protest and that’s when I was shot in the leg with a pointed pellet,” the statement quoted her as saying.

    She said the authorities had threatened doctors and that several centers where she had sought treatment had turned her away.

    Amnesty also cited reports of scores of arrests in cities where demonstrations took place, saying authorities were “denying the families of some detainees information about their fate and whereabouts”.

    Philip Luther, Amnesty’s regional research and advocacy chief, urged Iran to release those who had been arbitrarily detained.

    “The Iranian authorities must end the repression as a matter of urgency and ensure the security forces exercise maximum restraint and respect protesters’ rights to peaceful expression and assembly,” he said.”

    “Albania, which hosts a camp for thousands of members of an exiled Iranian dissident group, expelled two Iranian diplomats on Wednesday, more than a year after kicking out the Iranian ambassador.

    Acting Foreign Minister Gent Cakaj identified the diplomats in a statement on social media as Mohammad Ali Arz Peimanemati and Seyed Ahmad Hosseini Alast. They were expelled for activity incompatible with their diplomatic status, a phrase often used in cases of spying.

    “The two representatives of Iran have been asked to depart immediately from the territory of the Republic of Albania,” Cakaj said.

    In December 2018, Albania expelled Iran’s ambassador and another diplomat for “damaging its national security”. Iran claimed at the time Albania had acted under pressure from Israel and the United States.

    For the past six years, NATO-member Albania, a US ally, has hosted a camp for members of the People’s Mujahideen Organization of Iran, which opposes Iran’s clerical rulers.

    The group relocated to Albania under an agreement reached with US support, after its members had come under attack at their previous base in Iraq.

    The presence of the dissidents has been a source of constant friction with Iran. Albanian media widely reported comments by Iran’s supreme leader Ali Khamenei this month referring to Albania as “a small but evil European country where American elements conspire with Iranian traitors and plan attacks against” Iran, said Reuters.

    Some 3,000 PMOI members now live in a camp near Durres, Albania’s main port. Albania said last October it had foiled a number of planned attacks last year by Iranian agents against exiled Iranian dissidents.”

    “Foreign Minister Prince Faisal Bin Farhan emphasized on Wednesday Saudi Arabia’s utmost keenness in the unity, sovereignty and integrity of Arab territories, stating that any move to harm them or interfering to threaten their stability are unacceptable for the Kingdom.

    “Saudi Arabia is also exerting all efforts to find political solutions to crises in Syria, Yemen, Libya, and Sudan,” he said. The minister made the remarks while addressing the opening session of the Arab Parliament in Cairo.

    Prince Faisal said the Arab region is undergoing changes and challenges that affect political, economic and security life of many of the Arab countries and that are reflected in the humanitarian, developmental and social aspects of the Arab peoples.

    “All this warrants from us serious moves to address threats facing our countries and peoples, and to move forward towards realizing the aspirations of the Arab peoples for security, stability and development.”

    The minister said the Palestinian issue is the first and foremost among all issues of Arabs.

    “The Palestine issue is receiving the greatest attention in our foreign policies, and we have called, and continue to call, for a comprehensive and just solution for it, in a way guaranteeing the restoration of all occupied Arab territories on the basis of international legitimacy resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative of 2002, and that would contribute to achieving regional and international security and stability.”

    On the Syrian crisis, Prince Faisal reiterated that political solution is the only solution to the Syrian crisis. “Saudi Arabia, along with its Arab brothers, has taken a unified and clear Arab position towards Turkey’s military intervention in northern Syria.”

    He pointed out that Saudi Arabia is the largest supporter in resolving the crisis in Yemen, and would continue its recent efforts to reach a political solution to end the Yemeni crisis.

    “Saudi Arabia has extended more than $14.5 billion to assist the people of Yemen,” he said while making an appeal to the international community to pay more attention to stop Iran-backed Houthi militias from making repeated attacks with missiles and drones targeting civilian areas, airports and installations in the Kingdom.

    The minister stated that the Libyan crisis was at the center of the Kingdom’s foreign policy concerns, as it continued to call on the people of Libya of the necessity to show restraint and give top priority to preserving the unity and territorial integrity with establishing comprehensive peace.

    Prince Faisal said the Kingdom seeks all security, political and legal means to fight terrorism.

    “The Kingdom has established regional and international alliances against terrorism and has refused to link terrorism unjustly to the religion of Islam as the Kingdom has warned countries that sponsor terrorist acts and support armed militias, which interfere in the internal affairs of Arab countries and create division, differences and sectarianism.”

    He said the Kingdom looks forward to further enhancing cooperation in the economic, development and investment fields among the Arab states.

    “The issue of Arab integration and the common Arab market is one of the most important issues facing joint Arab action and that must be sought to achieve in light of the regional and international economic blocs,” he said noting that the Kingdom has close economic relations with many Arab, Islamic and friendly countries.

    “The Kingdom also seeks to conclude new commercial partnerships and facilitate the flow of goods and capital as well as the movement of individuals,” he said, adding that the Kingdom is now more capable of achieving these goals in the light of the ambitious Vision 2030.”

    The deployment of the fighters comes amid speculation and uncertainty regarding the numbers of fighters that have arrived in Libya after Turkey guaranteed to militarily assist the Libyan government.       Syrian sources told The Guardian on Wednesday that 2,000 Syrian fighters will be deployed in the war-torn country. The fighters are travelling from Turkey and will “arrive imminently” to fight in Libya alongside the Tripoli-based government, the report said.

      Libya has been divided between two forces since the 2011 uprising that led to the collapse of Muammar Gaddafi’s regime.

      The first force is General Khalifa Haftar’s Libyan National Army, which controls Benghazi and Libya’s eastern regions, while the second is the Tripoli-based, UN-recognised Government of National Accord (GNA).

      The GNA signed an agreement with Turkey on 20 December that includes sending Turkish troops to Libya based on the request of the former. The Turkish parliament voted in favour of this move.

      According to the Guardian report, 300 men from the second division of the Syrian National Army, which is affiliated to Turkey-funded Syrian rebels, will be initially deployed in Libya after they had left Syria through the Hawar Kilis military border crossing on 24 December.

      On 29 December, another 350 more men followed, flying to the Libyan capital Tripoli where “they have been posted to front line positions in the east of the city.”

      On 5 January, 1,350 fighters entered Turkey. Some of them were sent to Libya, while others are receiving training in southern Turkey.

  21. 5 charged in US for aiding Pakistan’s nuclear weapons programme

    “Five men have been indicted in the United States for allegedly running an international network that purchased US products for Pakistan’s nuclear weapons programme.

    “The defendants smuggled US origin goods to entities that have been designated for years as threats to US national security for their ties to Pakistan’s weapons programmes,” assistant attorney general John Demers said in a statement.

    The five, who live outside the United States and have not been apprehended, were indicted by a grand jury in October, the Justice Department said. The indictment was unsealed on Wednesday and arrest warrants are pending.

    The five were accused of operating a front company called “Business World” in Rawalpindi, Pakistan.

    They were identified as Muhammad Kamran Wali, 41, of Pakistan, Muhammad Ahsan Wali, 48, and Haji Wali Muhammad Sheikh, 82, both of Mississauga, Ontario, Ashraf Khan Muhammad of Hong Kong, and Ahmed Waheed, 52, of Ilford, England.

    They were charged with conspiring to violate the International Emergency Economic Powers Act and the Export Control Reform Act.

    “The alleged behaviour of these five individuals presented more than a violation of US export laws,” said Jason Molina, a special agent with the Department of Homeland Security.

    “It posed a potential threat to the national security interests of the United States and to the delicate balance of power among nations within the region.”

    According to the indictment, between September 2014 and October 2019, the five procured US goods without export licenses for Pakistan’s Advanced Engineering Research Organization and the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission.”

    “A Turkish humanitarian agency distributed a total of 22,450 copies of Quran in African countries in 2019, it said on Wednesday.

    In a statement, the Istanbul-based Humanitarian Relief Foundation (IHH) said due to poverty in Africa, many people could not acquire a copy of the Muslim holy book despite their willingness to study it.

    Therefore, the statement said, the IHH decided to distribute the copies of Quran in eight African countries — including Rwanda, Niger and Ghana — mostly to students.

    Yusuf Islam Demirci, an official at the foundation, said the people who want to learn the Quran and students who want to be a preacher needed the book.

    “They were writing the verses of the Quran on blackboards using limewash,” he said.

    Demirci said thanks to the foundation’s donors, people can now study the Quran easily.”

    “Turkey’s ruling party on Wednesday called on Egypt to immediately release Anadolu Agency employees who were detained in a police raid Tuesday evening on the agency’s Cairo office.

    “Egypt should immediately release Anadolu Agency employees and should also apologize,” Naci Bostanci, the head of Justice and Development (AK) Party’s parliamentary group, told Anadolu Agency.

    Bostanci termed the the move, “scandalous and unacceptable”.

    Egypt should obey international rules on journalism activities, he noted.

    “We are waiting for them to be released soon,” he added.

    Egyptian police raided Cairo office of Anadolu Agency and detained four employees Tuesday evening.

    The detainees include one Turkish citizen.

    The employees were taken to an unknown destination.

    An AK Party senior lawmaker also condemned the detention.

    “This unfair detention can not be accepted, we condemn it,” Mustafa Acikgoz said on Twitter.

    “As Turkish Republic, we will closely follow the issue,” he added.

    Speaking to lawmakers, the parliament’s deputy speaker Sureyya Sadi Bilgic condemned the journalists’ detainment.

    “The Anadolu Agency employees should be immediately released and the necessary apology should be made,” Bilgic said.

    The main opposition Republican People’s Party’s (CHP) deputy group chair also condemned the move.

    “We are condemning this attitude of the Egyptian authorities,” Ozgur Ozel said.

    “We are deeply sorry for the Anadolu Agency [employees],” added Ozel.

    AK Party’s deputy group chair said they were closely monitoring the incident.

    “We have already contacted the authorities. I hope the incident ends without any extraordinary issues, any injury or loss of lives,” Bulent Turan said.”

    “Turkey’s Embassy in Washington introduced its country and culture to elementary school students in the U.S.

    The embassy discussed Turkey’s culture, nature, language and cuisine with Barnard Elementary School student during a visit Tuesday.

    “Our young friends in 5th grade had a taste of delicious Turkish delight, a sense of Turkish music and a stamp on their passports! We can’t wait to meet for a second time!” the embassy said on Twitter.

    The embassy said the visit was held with contributions from the Yunus Emre Institute as part of the District of Columbia Public Schools’ Embassy Adoption Program (EAP).

    The Yunus Emre Institute is a public foundation that works to promote Turkey’s language, history, culture and art to increase cultural exchange.

    The EAP is a global education program that affords fifth and sixth-grade students the unique opportunity to expand their global awareness through direct interactions with diplomats from around the world to meet with foreign cultures.”
