1. King Sobieski monument erected in Kraków after Vienna says it’s too controversial

(This is truly shameful. Vienna refuses a monument to the one man who saved the city from total and permanent defeat at the hands of a muslim army that had laid siege to the city. Polish King Jan Sobieski III rode in with his army at the 11th hour and saved the Viennese and the city as the muslims were preparing to enter and sack the city. And now Vienna turns down a statue of their literal saviour because “It’s too controversial”.)

A monument of Polish king Jan III Sobieski has been placed on a platform trailer in front of the Papal Window in Kraków.

 

The monument has been put on temporary display to remind people of its existence after authorities in Vienna withdrew from a long-term plan to erect it on Kahlenberg hill in Vienna, from where the Polish king launched his history-changing attack 336 years ago.

The monument depicts Sobieski as the head of a column of hussars as he routed the Ottoman army at the Siege of Vienna in 1683, a battle that put a check on the Ottomans’ further advances into Europe.

3. Virginia town removes more statues to appease historical revisionists 

The City Council of Charlottesville, Virginia has voted to remove a statue of Meriwether Lewis, William Clark and Sacagawea, their Shoshone interpreter, from a street in the city:

The city council voted to direct city staff to create a plan for the removal of the West Main Street statue commemorating the Lewis and Clark expedition during a work session Friday.

At the work session, councilors discussed the statue with Native Americans and some of Sacagawea’s descendants, who traveled to Charlottesville from Idaho.

Rose Ann Abrahamson, a descendant of Sacagawea and a Shoshone-Bannock woman, said she has seen nearly every depiction of her ancestor in the country.

“This statue in Charlottesville was the worst we have ever seen,” she said.

It is interesting that the statue isn’t controversial because it depicts Lewis and Clark, who are hard to criticize from a “woke” perspective. Rather, the objection is to the depiction of Sacagawea:
