Images show Iran rebuilding military base on Iraq-Syria border
Iran is continuing construction on a military base near the Iraq-Syria border, new satellite images taken Sunday show.
The Imam Ali military base was partially destroyed in an airstrike in early September.
ImageSat International (ISI) analysts said that the new images show eight zones of construction or reconstruction on the premises. Checkpoints on both sides of the compound are also visible on the images, as are the fortified walls around the complex.

IDF attacks dozens of terror targets in Syria
In response to the rockets fired by an Iranian force from Syrian territory at Israel, IDF fighter jets struck dozens of military targets of the Iranian Quds Force and the Syrian Armed Forces, including surface-to-air missiles, headquarters, weapons warehouses and military bases, overnight Tuesday.…
“The wave of strikes was widespread in its objectives. The attack included dozens of components in Damascus, south and west of the city, and in the Golan, including Iranian assets. A number of anti-aircraft missiles were fired and we destroyed the batteries from which they were launched. We are prepared for three scenarios: lack of response, minor response, and more significant response,” he added, noting the attack was coordinated in advance with Russia and the United States.

Pentagon Spy Agency Finds Trump’s Syria Pullout Aided ISIS
Turkey’s military offensive in northern Syria following Donald Trump’s order for U.S. forces to pull back aided Islamic State and damaged ties with Kurdish-led militias, according to a new assessment by the Defense Intelligence Agency.
The DIA’s assessment, part of a quarterly report, concluded that Islamic State “exploited the Turkish incursion and subsequent drawdown of U.S. troops to reconstitute capabilities and resources within Syria and strengthen its ability to plan attacks abroad.” The report was released Tuesday by the Pentagon’s inspector general.…
The DIA report added that Islamic State is “postured to withstand” the recent death of leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, and probably will maintain “continuity of operations, global cohesion, and at least its current trajectory.” Absent U.S. “counterterrorism pressure, ISIS will likely have the ‘time and space’ to target the West and provide support to its global networks and branches,” DIA said.
Syrian and Russian forces that moved into northeastern Syria “are unlikely to prioritize fighting ISIS,” the intelligence agency said. It said that the forces aligned with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad “had not conducted operations against ISIS in the areas that they had moved into, and that these forces probably prioritize limiting Turkey’s incursion into Syria over counterterrorism operations against ISIS.…”

“The Israel Defence Forces (IDF) in an early Wednesday statement claim that Israeli jets pounded Syrian territory, attacking dozens of military targets belonging to the Iranian and Syrian forces.
According to the IDF, the targets included air-to-air missiles, warehouses and various military facilities.
The IDF said in the statement that the air raid came in response to earlier rocket launches allegedly made by Syrian forces from Syrian territory that targeted Israeli territory.

The area has been mostly under the control of Tel Aviv after Israel seized the area during the 1967 Six-Day War, adopting a law in 1981 that annexed the territory, although it was rejected by the United Nations. Earlier this year, US President Donald Trump recognized the Golan Heights as Israeli territory.”

“Sweden’s embattled Prime Minister Stefan Löfven has been given a vote of no confidence in a recent opinion poll for, among others, pinning the crime wave on segregation and social injustice.
Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Löfven has landed in hot water over a series of interviews in which he consistently denied any link between immigration and the problems many believe it has entailed, such as a wave of violent crime that swept Sweden’s migrant-heavy suburbs.
In an interview with national broadcaster SVT, Löfven said that the explosion of gang violence was impossible to predict and that the suburbs would have experienced the same problems anyway. Instead, he pinned the criminal wave on “segregation” and “social injustice”.
In a subsequent interview with Dagens Nyheter, one of the nation’s leading dailies, the embattled prime minister, who has seen the support of his Social Democrats party drop to record lows, defended his stance, insisting that the main problem was segregation.
“It is impossible to ethnify crime and say that it depends on being born in a certain place or having a specific skin colour or background”, Löfven said, blaming crime on adverse socio-economic conditions, such as deficient language education and slim chances of entering the labour market, which, in turn, lead to segregation.
Despite the fact that Sweden has refrained from mapping criminals’ ethnicity since 2005 due to ethic considerations, independent reports have pointed out migrants’ over-representation in a number of crimes, including rape.
In late 2017, an independent report suggested that migrants, who by conservative estimates from Statistics Sweden constitute about a fourth of the country’s population, were severely overrepresented in crimes of a sexual nature, accounting for over 90 percent of rapes and gang rapes.
A Hostile Reception
While Löfven specifically ran on a platform of weeding out crime and claims to have pursued this goal from day one, his failure to curb rampaging violence, such as gang shootouts and explosions, may spell his downfall.
A survey performed by pollster Sifo on behalf of the newspaper Expressen has indicated that voters have low confidence in Löfven’s ability to tackle gang violence and organised crime, which were identified among the most burning issues facing Sweden.
A total of 66 percent said Löfven has done a poor job in dealing with crime, as opposed to 25 percent who had a favourable view. Furthermore, only 53 percent of his own Social Democrat voters have confidence in the way he handles gang violence. According to the survey, voters saw right-wing Sweden Democrat leader Jimmie Åkesson, Löfven’s nemesis, as best-suited to handle questions about law and order in Sweden.
“Stefan Löfven has been clearly rejected by the population at large. There is a consistently high mistrust, both among men and women and in different age groups”, Toivo Sjörén of Sifo told Expressen.
This attitude is reflected in the massive criticism of Löfven’s take on crime, including by his allies.
Even the newspaper Aftonbladet, which identifies as “independently Social Democrat”, slammed his interview, calling it a “catastrophe”. Commentator Lena Mellin called Löfven “ill-prepared” and “lost for answers”, citing his failure to explain why Sweden digresses greatly from comparable countries and tops the statistics of young men’s deaths.
Widar Andersson, editor-in-chief of Folkbladet, a fellow Social Democratic newspaper, attacked the prime minister: “If Stefan Löfven and the government wish to maintain some form of authority, a straightforward and sensible language is needed in this field”.
Löfven’s opponents were even less sparing.

“The world’s biggest social media platform has long been accused of suppressing conservative voices that contradict the leftist narrative. This time, the decision is all the more perplexing given that the post doesn’t appear to be misleading despite what Facebook claimed.
Facebook has blocked a post about the Democratic endorsement of a fence on the Mexican border, citing an independent fact-check. That fact-check shows the post contains no factual errors.
On Tuesday, 18 November, conservative educational non-profit PragerU posted an image that said: “In 2006, Hillary Clinton voted for a fence on the Mexican border. So did Barack Obama and Chuck Schumer and 23 other Senate Democrats. Now, a border wall is considered racist.”
The post was soon covered up with a warning saying that it contains “partly false information.” Users could only access the image if they tapped on a small “see photo” bar underneath.
The post was apparently referring to 2017 comments by the White House budget director, Mick Mulvaney, who slammed Democrats for their staunch opposition to Trump’s promised border wall.
“We still don’t understand why the Democrats are so wholeheartedly against [the border wall],” Mulvaney said in a TV interview. “They voted for it in 2006. Then-Senator Obama voted for it. Senator Schumer voted for it. Senator Clinton voted for it.”
All three Democrats, who were sitting in the Senate at the time (Schumer now is a Senate minority leader) did approve the 2006 Secure Fence Act, which required the construction of more than 1,100 kilometres of reinforced double-layered fencing along stretches of the Mexican border. The bill passed the Democrat-controlled Senate by a vote of 80 to 19. The double-layer provision was dropped two years later.
The Facebook disclaimer provided a link to a fact-check on PolitiFact that rated Mulvaney’s statement “Half True.” By the time the fact-check came out, Trump had not yet ordered the construction of his “big, beautiful wall,” which is now materialising in the form of a steel barrier akin to the one Democrats voted for in 2006.
However, PolitiFact said Mulvaney was “partially accurate, but ignores important context,” because that border fence was “not as substantial as the wall Trump is proposing” and because the political context in 2006 was “different.”
Facebook decided to cite that same fact-check as a reason to block PragerU’s post – although it says unambiguously that Democrats were in favour of a “border fence.”
“They provide a link to PolitiFact which does not dispute the claims: It actually confirms them!” PragerU said.
As of writing this, the disclaimer has been dropped. The confusion is still there.”

“THE EU is splurging €16m (£13.72m) on Interrail travel passes so 18-year-olds can travel around Europe for free.
Brussels is offering teenagers, who were born between January 1, 2001 and December 31, 2001, the chance to win one of 12,000 travel passes. The passes allow the lucky winners travel through Europe by train, bus, ferry or even airplane for up to a month. The DiscoverEU scheme, first launched last year, aims to helping young people familiarise with the European continent and its cultures.
All 18-year-old EU citizens can apply, including Britons, with applications running from November 7 until November 28 at noon.
To apply, hopefuls must fill out an online application form, which includes answering five questions about the EU and some details on intended travel plans.
If teenagers do not want to travel alone, the application gives the option of registering alongside up to four friends.
After applications have been submitted, winners will be elected and announced between January 8-23 2020.
Winners can then choose between either a global pass, which allows rail travel across any of the 31 participating countries, or select two EU member states for the 30 days.
They can then choose to travel between April 1 and October 31 2020.
A condition of winning is that travellers should report on their experiences as “ambassadors”, keeping a travel diary and posting updates on social media.
The prize only includes travel, with winners having to pay for accommodation, food and drink themselves.
To date, almost 50,000 free Interrail passes have been handed out to 18-year-old backpackers.
The project is entirely funded by the European Parliament, with €16million being set aside for 2019.

Munich incident: Police seal off major square for ‘large-scale operation’ after warning (express, Nov 20, 2019)

“MUNICH Police sealed off the city’s Marienplatz square amid reports of a “possible threat” in the city.
As reported by German news website, Merkur, a “large scale operation” was underway in the square although the police have now called off the threat. The Police have now released a statement where they confirmed that there was no threat on the city centre.
The police said: “We no longer assume that the situation is highly dangerous.”
Munich Police have stated that they are now working to establish the identify “the background of the clue”.
Earlier, an operation was launched after the police received a tip-off had reported a “possible threat” to the police.
The threat was reported at 12pm local time (11am GMT).
Following the operation, Munich Police tweeted that they were investigating the situation.
They said: “Because of a note we received we are currently reviewing the security situation at Marienplatz.
“Several of our officers are present in the inner city area of Munich. We are investigating and will keep you informed.”
Moreover, the news website also reported that “heavily” armed police were now at the scene in the city centre.
Despite the false alarm, the UK’sForeign Office has warned that “terrorists are very likely to try to carry out attacks in Germany.”
They added: “Attacks could be indiscriminate, including in public places visited by foreigners.
“There’s a heightened threat of terrorist attack globally against UK interests and British nationals, from groups or individuals motivated by the conflict in Iraq and Syria.
“You should be vigilant at this time.”
The warning from the Foreign Office comes following three major terrorist attacks in three years in the country.
On July 24, 2016 a suicide bomber killed himself outside a bar in Ansbach, injuring 15 people.
In December of the same year, a lorry was driven into a crowd at a Christmas market in central Berlin killing 12 people.

“The Greek coastguard has said more than 1,350 migrants arrived on various islands in the Aegean Sea over the weekend, as tensions boil in the already overcrowded camps.
The coastguard said they picked up a total of 658 migrants from Friday to Monday morning and added that another 730 migrants had managed to land on the coast of one of the Aegean islands near Turkey, newspaper Courrier International reports.
The new migrant flows come as the already overcrowded camps on islands like Lesbos and Samos are looking to transfer around 20,000 migrants to the Greek mainland to decrease the congestion in camps where 32,000 live in spaces designated for just 6,200.
Charities and other bodies like the United Nations have criticised conditions in the camps for years, with sexual and physical violence, and even several deaths, occurring in them.
On Saturday, the NGO Médecins sans Frontières confirmed the death of a nine-month-old child who died as a result of dehydration at the infamous Moria migrant camp on the island of Lesbos.
Many in Greece are not happy about the redistribution of migrants from the Aegean islands to the mainland, including the right-wing group Enomenoi Macedonia (United Macedonians), which this month organised a pork and wine barbeque protest resulting in accusations of racism.
Greece also faces increased pressure from Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdo?an, who has threatened to allow 3.6 million Syrian asylum seekers to flood into Europe.

“Russia expressed its readiness to discuss the sale of S-400 air defence systems to Iran earlier this year as soon as such a request was received from the Iranian side.

Iranian Missile Power
The report also comments on Iranian achievements in its ballistic missile and drone programmes, pointing out that in spite of spending decades without access to advanced Western technologies, the country’s missile arsenal was now the largest and most advanced in the region.
“Iran has an extensive missile development programme, and the size and sophistication of its missile force continues to grow despite decades of counter-proliferation efforts aimed at curbing its advancement,” the report notes. Tehran, the report adds, now has “the largest missile force in the Middle East.”
Citing Iranian efforts to develop missiles with a 2,000 km+ range, the DIA suggests this “long-range strike capability” is meant “to dissuade its adversaries in the region – particularly the United States, Israel and Saudi Arabia – from attacking Iran.”
Finally, the report also comments on Iran’s regional naval capabilities, warning that the country has the means to install over 5,000 sea mines in the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz, effectively allowing them to shut the vital sea zone down in the event of a conflict.
An estimated one-third of all sea-borne crude oil in the world passes through the Strait of Hormuz on its way to Europe, Asia and other markets.
Iran has repeatedly called on ‘outsiders’ to stay out of the Persian Gulf region after the US, Israel and several of Washington’s regional and European allies announced the formation of a maritime coalition aimed at ensuring the security of commercial vessels in the Gulf amid numerous incidents involving the sabotage or seizure of oil tankers.
Despite nearly four decades of restrictions on the sale of arms by the US and its allies, and a UN Security Council arms embargo adopted in 2006 over Tehran’s suspected nuclear programme, the Islamic Republic has created and adopted a broad range of new military equipment, including everything from Navy gunboats to armoured vehicles, to advanced missile defence systems and satellites. UK –Anti-Islam Facebook video will put man behind bars, court hears
A MAN who issued a “call to arms” against Muslims in the aftermath of a series of terrorist attacks is preparing to go to jail.
Louis Ryan Duxbury, 22, posted a public 17-minute video on Facebook in which he said they “need to be wiped off the face of this ….. earth,” York Crown Court heard.
But a student representative at York St John University where he was studying, saw it and reported him, said Stephen Grattage, prosecuting.
It was the second time he had been reported to police about his extreme right views.
In 2013, when he was a 15-year-old student at Huntington School, staff spoke to him and reported him for an inflammatory anti-Islam comment he posted online following the murder of Fusilier Rigby.
Giving evidence at his trial, Duxbury claimed that the 2017 video was a “rant”. He was only exercising his right to free speech and that he believed in a diverse, multi-cultural society.
He claimed he was only talking about extremists and terrorists and not Muslims in general and that he was neither racist nor fascist, claiming he was apolitical.
“This was a call to arms, wasn’t it?” Mr Grattage asked him .
“No it wasn’t,” he replied.
A jury convicted him of inciting religious hatred after less than half an hour in retirement. Duxbury, of Wigginton Road, York, had denied the charge.
It was his second trial on the charge. A jury in March failed to reach a verdict. He was not prosecuted over the 2013 comment.
Defence barrister Glenn Parsons said he could say little in mitigation, but asked for Duxbury to have time to set his affairs in order.
The Recorder of York, Judge Sean Morris granted the 22-year-old bail until November 29.
He warned him: “People who incite religious or racial hatred create terrible trouble for our society. It will be a custodial sentence.”
On the video, Duxbury said he had worked “day and night” on a “vigilante” group in Strensall. In evidence, he called it a “watch group” that ended when local youths beat him up.

Demonstrations in favour of the government have broken out across Iran on Wednesday.
“Down with Israel” and “down with USA” could be heard as the protesters moved through the streets.
Demonstrations protesting the government were held all across the country and turned violent since Friday, with demonstrators damaging public property and police forces firing tear gas. According to reports from human rights organisations, at least 10 people were killed during the riots.

The event had been scheduled for this Friday and co-hosts from Bostonians Against Sanctuary Cities were expecting a crowd of about 300 people.
University officials gave pale excuses for the last-minute cancellation, citing local organizers’ request for an audio box to accommodate media outlets. Anti-sanctuary activist Lou Murray condemned the decision as “malarkey,” vowing that “the show must and will go on.” The Bentley University administrators who squelched our open discussion of who’s subsidizing and profiting on the mass migration agenda, Murray said, “are the new politically correct Puritans. I thought ‘Banned in Boston’ died long ago.” Liberal opponents of book burning change their tune when the book topics don’t fit their narratives.
This isn’t the first time that immigration enforcement advocates have been targeted in the Bay State. It provides a chilling guide of how to pose as a journalist and conceal a weapon inside a camera to wreak havoc at news conferences.
‘The mujahid brother, dressed up in the journalist’s clothes, may participate in news conferences, forums, and meetings which may enable him to target key enemy figures. He may also use the camera as an explosive device or to hide a weapon inside it.’ The poster says, according to the Middle East Research Institute.
On Wednesday, another IS mouthpiece – Al-Taqwa Media Foundation – showed a blade-wielding terrorist in military fatigues standing behind a kneeling Trump.

“Algeria’s army has arrested eight people planning to join militants in the neighboring Sahel region, the defense ministry said on Wednesday.
The eight were arrested on Tuesday in the Ghardaia and Relizane provinces, a ministry statement said without providing details.
Algeria has repeatedly expressed concerns about security across its southern borders with Mali and Niger, where militants have carried out deadly attacks on civilians and government forces.
The army has tightened security across the country’s frontiers with the Sahel region and with Libya, and announced seizures of weapons during patrols this year.”

“Turkish security forces held 577 irregular migrants in northwestern Turkey’s Edirne province, bordering Greece, on Wednesday, Anadolu Agency reports.
They included Nepali, Indian, Iranian, Afghan, Bangladeshi, Pakistani, Syrian, Palestinian, Somalian, Moroccan and Algerian nationals.
The migrants were sent to the provincial migration office for legal procedures.
Turkey has been a key transit point for irregular migrants aiming to cross to Europe to start new lives, especially those fleeing war and persecution.
Some 268,000 irregular migrants were held in Turkey in 2018, according to the Interior Ministry, and over 336,000 have been held so far this year.”

“Saudi Arabia’s King Salman struck a defiant note against the kingdom’s enemies, saying on Wednesday that missile and drone strikes it blames on Iran had not halted development and reiterating that Riyadh will not hesitate to defend itself, Reuters reports.
In an annual address to the appointed Shura Council, he called again on the international community to stop Tehran’s nuclear and ballistic missile programs and halt regional intervention, saying it was time to stop the “chaos and destruction” generated by Iran, according to prepared remarks.
He also said the oil policy of the kingdom, the world’s top oil exporter, is aimed at promoting market stability.
“Though the kingdom has been subjected to attacks by 286 ballistic missiles and 289 drones, in a way that has not been seen in any other country, that has not affected the kingdom’s development process or the lives of its citizens and residents,” the king told assembled council members, royals and foreign diplomats.
He praised the ability of state oil giant Saudi Aramco to quickly restore oil production capacity after attacks on its facilities in September which initially cut more than 5% of global supply.
He said Aramco’s response had proven the kingdom’s ability to meet global demand in any shortage, and praised the company’s initial public offering, which began this week, saying it would attract foreign investment and create thousands of jobs.
