Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

      • I’ve just watched this whole episode, EB, thank you. It offers us great clarity, connecting many dots. It explains why and where Civil Society groups attack so aggressively–such as in Hungary where the Soros-funded Central European University was expelled and Soros-funded NGOs were compelled to reveal foreign funding sources. Orban has understood what Beck explains intimately, it seems, for some time. It also shows us how truly democratic societies won’t stand a chance unless their populations are informed. However there will be no broad education on international socialism with legacy media, which is fully compromised.

        I will show this to my children even if I must pay them to sit and watch.

        • Show this to your children and anyone who will listen. I was starting to think I would turn into a Smurf (going blue in the face) many years ago when I talked about Dr. Evil. Soros or Islam, you get the same reaction from the people who keep their heads in the sand.

      • I don’t agree with everything he has brought forward but 98% or better of the info and opinion is spot on. He has laid out the facts for everyone to see, the Fabian Society and their descendants are busy laying the groundwork for a major war. A war that will start as a series of revolutions/civil wars in the major nations that use to be democracies and protected the rights and liberty of their citizens.

    In the case of a German soldier of Turkish origin, who was allegedly attacked in the Berlin district of Neukölln, the preliminary proceedings have been discontinued. Instead, the 25 year old corporal is now being investigated, said Martin Steltner, spokesman for the Berlin public prosecutor’s office, on Thursday.The investigations had revealed contradictions in the man’s testimony, which could not be clarified, the Attorney General’s Office announced on Twitter. There was a suspicion that the soldier had invented the attack. There is much to suggest that the attack had been made up: “Witnesses were questioned, video recordings evaluated and the injuries examined,” explained Steltner. The motive for pretending to be a victim of a crime is still unclear.The 25-year-old had claimed to have been xenophobically assaulted by two men. According to his own statements, the lance corporal in uniform was on his way to the street Saalestraße on September 2. He allegedly noticed two men following him.They had suddenly struck and stepped on him. One of the attackers had insulted and rant at him, that only Germans were allowed to wear the uniform of a soldier.Alarmed policemen could not find the alleged perpetrators. The State Security of the Criminal Investigation Department, which is responsible for politically motivated acts, investigated the case.

    • Hong Kong campus protesters fire arrows as anti-government unrest spreads

      HONG KONG (Reuters) – Hong Kong protesters shot arrows and hurled petrol bombs from a barricaded university on Sunday at police who fired tear gas and water cannon in some of the worst violence in the Chinese-ruled city since anti-government unrest erupted five months ago.

      Several protesters took up positions on the rooftops of Hong Kong Polytechnic University, armed with bows and arrows, as unrest spread across the territory’s central Kowloon district.

      Police said a media liaison officer was treated in hospital after being hit by an arrow in the leg and another officer’s visor was struck by a metal ball although he was not hurt.

      Protesters, who were sprayed with the blue liquid from water cannon, stripped off and hosed each other down to wash it off.

      • I want everyone who is talking or thinking about giving up to pay close attention to what is happening in Hong Kong, those kids are not giving up, they are fighting to the bitter end. The kids are outnumbered by about 1,000 to 1, the people they are fighting are well armed (although I don’t think much of the weapons they have they are still lethal) with nothing but improvised weapons, a desire to be free and to pass that freedom down to their future children and a somewhat naive hope that world opinion will stop the Chicoms from rolling over them and crushing their dreams of freedom.

        The next time you think that it is time to give up on any nation or section of any nation think of those kids, they are fighting your fight. When I was a little older then them (4 years at most) I was in the US Army during a very nasty war in the jungles of South East Asia. As this was going on we were facing off against the Soviet Union in Europe, hell in 67 I was in Germany when the Soviets moved more tanks into Czechoslovakia. We thought that we were headed into a shooting war in Europe and were ready to go if it was required. The big difference is that I knew that if the balloon went up I would have a lot of well armed people coming to help. The kids in Hong Kong are on their own and know it but they are still fighting.

        Are they braver then the people who are willing to give up part of all of Europe to the invaders? Or is that they realize that if they don’t fight freedom will die in Hong Kong? Or are they more desperate? They aren’t seeing their little girls and at times boys raped by invading savages. They aren’t seeing people beaten or murdered because they are a different ethnic group. But they are still fighting why are so many people in Europe and North America willing to surrender to the invaders?

    “Iran’s supreme leader on Sunday backed the government’s decision to raise gasoline prices and called angry protesters who have been setting fire to public property over the hike “thugs,” signaling a potential crackdown on the demonstrations.

    Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s comments came as authorities shut down the internet across Iran to smother the protests in some two dozen cities and towns over the rise of government-set prices by 50% as of Friday. One firm said it was the biggest internet outage ever seen in Iran.

    Since the hike, demonstrators have abandoned their cars along major highways and joined mass protests in the capital, Tehran, and elsewhere. Some protests turned violent, with demonstrators setting fires and there was also gunfire.

    It remains to be seen how many people have been injured, killed and arrested as videos from the protests have shown people gravely wounded.

    Iranian authorities on Sunday raised the official death toll in the violence surrounding the unrest to at least two. Attackers targeting a police station in Kermanshah on Saturday killed one officer there, the state-run IRNA news agency reported Sunday. Earlier, one man was reported killed.

    In an address aired by state television Sunday, Khamenei said “some lost their lives and some places were destroyed,” without elaborating. He called violent protesters “thugs” who had been pushed into violence by counterrevolutionaries and foreign enemies of Iran. He specifically named those aligned with the family of Iran’s late shah, ousted 40 years ago, and an exile group called the Mujahedeen-e-Khalq.

    “Setting a bank on fire is not an act done by the people. This is what thugs do,” Khamenei said.

    However, he made a point to back the decision of Iran’s relatively moderate President Hassan Rouhani and others to raise gasoline prices…”

    MOSCOW (Reuters) – Russia will return three captured naval ships to Ukraine on Monday and is moving them to a handover location agreed with Kiev, Crimea’s border guard service was cited as saying by Russian news agencies on Sunday.

    A Reuters reporter in Crimea, which Russian annexed from Ukraine in 2014, earlier on Sunday saw coastguard boats pulling the three vessels through the Kerch Strait toward the Black Sea where they could potentially be handed over to Ukraine.

    “As Brexit deadlines draw close and extend at the stroke of a pen, with the new date scheduled for 31 January, government employees are beginning to feel the stress and tension that comes from organising the UK’s withdrawal from the European Union.

    Work-related stress, depression and anxiety have shot up significantly among civil servants in the UK to their highest level in decades amid warnings that Whitehall is reaching a “breaking point”, the Observer reported on Sunday.

    Civil servants who claim to be experiencing stress rose by 45% in the past year, the highest in recorded history since the Health and Safety Executive began collecting data on the industry 20 years ago.

    A variety of causes are being blamed including workload, looming important deadlines, resignations of senior staff, and the overall pressure of Brexit.

    The data showed that there were around 3,230 cases of anxiety, stress, and depression for every 100,000 staffers in the civil service and offshoot jobs have been recorded, which is the highest rate of any other sector in the country. The figure also happens to be around 77% above the economic average.

    An anonymous employee for a government body, who served as mental health champion following a period of being inflicted with depression, said he changed jobs to help him deal with his condition.

    Speaking anonymously, he said that despite improvements in mental health awareness, increased workloads could be to blame for the growing problem of stress.

    “The organisation is making the right noises, but there is a heck of a lot more to do,” he said to the Observer.

    “Quite a few public sector bodies sign up to mental health pledges as a box-ticking exercise, or to give them the kudos of trying to do something. The public-sector pay cap has been key. People do not feel valued,” he added.

    “Their pay packets are going down in real terms and they are being asked to do more for less. When someone leaves, instead of that role being filled, people are being asked to take up that work”.

    According to unions, the figures reflect increasing workloads, years of stagnant wages, as well as heightened stress caused by Brexit deadlines and hurdles to government policy due parliamentary deadlock.

    The General Secretary of the Prospect union, Mike Clancy, said:

    “No other industry has experienced anything like this annual jump, and it is impossible to escape the conclusion that it is because of the sheer level of pressure being heaped on civil servants as a result of Brexit.”

    Clancy went on to note that no government “in peace time” has been so reliant on the civil service due to parliamentary deadlock. Cuts to pay and wages continuing to lag behind the private sector mean that it’s “no wonder” workers are feeling the strain.

    “The government urgently needs to address this problem or it will soon discover that even our fantastic civil service has a breaking point”.

    Emma Norris, the research director for the Institute for Government, said she considers the uncertainty of the Brexit process to be a leading cause of the problems as well as high staff turnover rates.

    “Some of this is the sheer workload that the civil service has been subjected to under Brexit,” she said.

    “We know that, as a result, some departments have already moved to shift work to try to reduce the hours some people are working – particularly where tight deadlines are involved.”

    She explained that there is a “constant sense of uncertainty” in the industry and that an inability for those working to see “beyond 2 weeks or so” can certainly be “demoralising and stressful.”

    Norris cited public organisations who were acting in response to the crisis, such as the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs which recently offered counselling services for its employees, with others offering sessions to help staff manage personal wellbeing and intensive workloads.”

    Doctors in the Croatian port of Rijeka said Sunday the unidentified migrant suffered multiple bullet wounds to his chest.

    Croatian police have said they fired shots at a group of migrants Friday “to protect Croatia’s borders.”

    Police say they’ve sent a team to investigate the circumstances of the shooting, which took place at the Gorski Kotar mountains, about 30 kilometers (19 miles) from the border with Bosnia.

    Rights groups have accused Croatian authorities of using excessive force against migrants illegally entering from Bosnia and Serbia. Croatia has repeatedly denied the charges.

  30. Afghanistan: Over 225 IS militants and family members surrender in Nangarhar

    At least 225 Islamic State militants plus their families have surrendered in the Nangarhar province during the past two weeks.

    190 women and 208 children surrendered alongside the fighters, after Afghan security forces launched a military operation against IS, in the Achin district.

    Footage from Jalalbad on Sunday shows ranks of the former fighters as well as weapons they handed in.

    According to Nangarhar Governor Shamahmod Miakhil “Most of them [are] from Pakistan and other foreign countries.”

  32. Global Protests: Russia and China Risk Ending Up on the Wrong Side of History

    EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: Russia and China are widely perceived as the rising powers in the Middle East as a result of America’s flip-flops in Syria and President Donald Trump’s transactional approach to foreign policy. This perception also reflects an acknowledgement of Russian and Chinese support for regimes irrespective of how non-performing and/or repressive they may be. But they could both ultimately find themselves on the wrong side of history in an era of global breakdown of popular confidence in political systems and incumbent leadership and increasingly determined and resourceful protests.

    Russia has sought to capitalize around the world, particularly Africa, on its newfound credibility in the Middle East as it attempts to project itself as a world power on par with the US and China.

    African leaders gathered in late October at the Black Sea resort of Sochi for the first-ever Russian African summit, chaired by Vladimir Putin. China has hosted similar regional summits.

    Putin has proven adept at playing a weak hand. For now, Russia—alongside China, which has the financial and trading muscle Moscow lacks—are basking in their glory.

    But Moscow and Beijing could find themselves in tricky situations as protests across the globe from Latin America to Hong Kong threaten to put them on the wrong side of history.

      • Yeah they are the ones causing a lot of the problems pratially to draw the worlds attention away from Hong Kong. I don’t know if Xi is going to order the troops in to crush the protests or not but it will be a very big mistake if he does.

        Xi has a lot of problems not the least of which is the Chinese economy, more and more corporations are pulling out of China and the Trade War wit the US has cut into the Chinese exports, not just to the US but to other nations as well. This has placed his already shaky economy on a very slippery slope that doesn’t look good for the prospects of the current Chinese Government riding out the problem. This does place Xi on the wrong side of History.

        Putin on the other hand has problems but they are enough to collapse his government? I don’t think they are, I haven’t been seeing many reports about the Russian Economy and if it was that bad there would be more reports.

    At the group’s conference in Lyon, France on Friday, an Interpol official said a version of the resolution introduced by the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation would be released without a formal vote by representatives of the roughly 60 countries in attendance, the sources said.

    Echoing a joint letter last month from the top law enforcement officials in the United States, United Kingdom and Australia, the larger group will cite difficulties in catching child sexual predators as grounds for companies opening up user communications to authorities wielding court warrants.

    “Service providers, application developers and device manufacturers are developing and deploying products and services with encryption which effectively conceals sexual exploitation of children occurring on their platforms,” a draft of the resolution seen by Reuters said.

    “Tech companies should include mechanisms in the design of their encrypted products and services whereby governments, acting with appropriate legal authority, can obtain access to data in a readable and useable format.”

    Interpol did not respond to a request for comment Sunday. The FBI referred questions to Interpol.

    The cooperative law enforcement association is best known for helping countries assist one another in catching suspects outside their jurisdictions. The new statement will not have the force of law, but instead aim at increasing pressure on tech providers.

    It could provide greater political cover for more countries to pass laws or regulations barring unbreakable encryption or requiring companies to be capable of hacking their own users, both of which are anathema to major U.S.-based global providers including Apple and Google.

    Both the United Kingdom and Australia have recently passed laws moving in that direction, though it is unclear how widely they are being wielded. U.S. skirmishes have been fought in sealed court proceedings, without major congressional action.

    Interpol joining the political fray is notable because the group includes Russia and other countries without rules against mass surveillance or spying on political minorities and activists.

    “This proposal will endanger people who rely on strong encryption to keep them safe, including from hackers and repressive regimes,” said a spokesman for Facebook, which was among the tech companies in Lyon for the conference. “It will also weaken the online security of over a billion people.”

    Facebook, owner of WhatsApp and Instagram, moved to the front of the political fight this year by announcing plans to make its popular Messenger communication service encrypted end-to-end, so that neither Facebook nor law enforcement can view content unless they have access to one of the endpoint devices.

    Because Messenger has been one of the most valuable sources of information about child predators, the step provoked the October joint letter from three of the “Five Eyes” intelligence alliance, which also includes Canada and New Zealand.

    Tech activists, pointing to past abuses of “exceptional access” for governments, have been alarmed at the political and legal trend, and that accelerated over the weekend. If an international company provides hacking capability under the legal system in one nation, they say, other countries will demand and get the same access, potentially across borders.

    “The idea that the U.S. is so concerned about having lawful exceptional access to end-to-end encryption that they are willing to spread that to nearly every jurisdiction in the world, including authoritarian states with which we would otherwise not share information, is unthinkable to me,” said Andrew Crocker, an attorney at the nonprofit Electronic Frontier Foundation.

    “To give that power to Russia, China and other authoritarian states is complete dereliction of duty of the U.S. government to protect us.””

    The case stems from an October 2017 attack on a police patrol in the Bahariya Oasis in the Western Desert which killed 16 security personnel and injured 13 others.

    The court sentenced on Sunday a Libyan militant, identified as Abdel-Rehim Al-Mosmary, to death. The man, who was the main defendant in the case, received training on using heavy weapons and making explosives in Libya before infiltrating into Egypt through the Western Desert to carry out terrorist attacks in the country, the court said. He was arrested shortly after the attack.

    Five others were sentenced to life imprisonment and 15 to between three and 15 years over charges including murder, attempted murder and joining a terrorist group, the court said. It did not specify the nationalities of the other defendants.

    Thirty others have been exonerated in the case.

    Egypt is fighting an Islamist terrorist insurgency based in North Sinai, which intensified in 2013 following the ouster of Islamist President Mohamed Morsi of the Muslim Brotherhood.

    Crushing the militants, who have mainly targeted police and army personnel, and restoring security have been a key priority of Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi.

    Egyptian security forces launched an extensive security operation in February 2018 to eliminate the militants, killing hundreds of them in raids.”

    “A rare and huge leak of Chinese government documents has shed new light on a security crackdown on Muslims in China’s Xinjiang region, where President Xi Jinping ordered officials to act with “absolutely no mercy” against separatism and extremism, The New York Times has reported.

    Human rights groups and outside experts say more than one million Uighurs and other mostly Muslim minorities have been rounded up in a network of internment camps across the far-western region.

    The 403 pages of internal papers obtained by the Times provide an unprecedented look into the highly-secretive Communist Party’s controversial crackdown, which has come under increasing international criticism, especially from the United States.

    The documents include previously unpublished speeches by Xi as well as directives and reports on the surveillance and control of the Uighur population, the newspaper said on the weekend.

    The leak also suggests that there has been some discontent within the party about the crackdown.

    The documents were leaked by an unnamed member of the Chinese political establishment who expressed hope that the disclosure would prevent the leadership, including Xi, from “escaping culpability for the mass detentions,” the Times said.

    In a 2014 speech to officials made after militants from the Uighur minority killed 31 people in a train station in southwestern China, Xi called for an all-out “struggle against terrorism, infiltration and separatism” using the “organs of dictatorship,” and showing “absolutely no mercy,” according to the daily.

    The internment camps expanded rapidly following the appointment in 2016 of a new party chief in Xinjiang, Chen Quanguo.

    Chen, according to the Times, distributed Xi’s speeches to justify the crackdown and urged officials to “round up everyone who should be rounded up.”

    Reputed within the party for his handling of minority groups, Chen earlier led iron-fisted policies aimed at crushing dissent in Tibet.

    The trove of leaked documents included a guide to answering questions from students who had returned home to Xinjiang to find their families missing or detained in camps.

    Officials were instructed to say the students’ family members had been infected with the “virus” of extremist thinking and needed to be treated before “a small illness becomes a serious one.”

    The documents also shed light on the party’s punishment of one official, Wang Yongzhi, who was investigated from 2017 to 2018 for disobeying party orders.

    Wang released on his own initiative more than 7,000 people from camps in Xinjiang, and feared that “rounding up so many people would knowingly fan conflict and deepen resentment”, according to a confession by Wang leaked to the Times.

    China, after initially denying the camps, has described them as vocational schools aimed at dampening the allure of Islamist extremism and violence through education and job training.

    But rights groups and foreign media, including AFP, have reported that official documents and satellite images show the facilities are equipped and run like prisons.

    The leak “confirms in black and white, in the party’s own words, its conscious and systematic extrajudicial mass internment of Muslims in Xinjiang,” said James Leibold, an expert on ethnic relations in China and a professor at Melbourne’s La Trobe University.

    The documents show that “there was resistance on a local level” with local officials who disagreed with the policy facing punishment or being purged, Leibold told AFP.

    Additionally, he said, the fact that the documents were leaked is “a significant indicator that there are many inside the party who think this is an unwise policy and wish to hold Xi Jinping and Chen Quanguo accountable.””
