Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

    “Ahead of the international T20 cricket match between India and Bangladesh, an anonymous threatening letter has raised concerns for prominent Indian athletes and politicians.

    According to media reports, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) of India received an anonymous letter on Tuesday, claiming that the Indian national cricket team, and particularly its captain Virat Kohli, as well as eminent Indian leaders including President Ram Nath Kovind, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Home Minister Amit Shah, were on a terror-hit list.

    Among other Indian political leaders mentioned in the threat, the letter includes the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) working President J.P. Nadda, senior leader Lal Krishna Advani, and its parental organisation Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh’s (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat.

    The anonymous letter further states that the terror group All India Lashkar – based out of the coastal city of Kozhikode in India’s southern state of Kerala, might be responsible for targeting the Indian leaders.

    The terror group is part of the Pakistan-based terror organisation “Lashkar-e-Taiba” which is thought to have been involved in several terror acts in India, including; the 2001 Parliament attack, the 2008 Mumbai Attack and the 2019 Pulwama Attack on the Indian security personnel in Jammu and Kashmir state.

    Even though the authorities feel that the letter could be a hoax, Delhi Police have beefed up security arrangements in the national capital…”

    Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic Ali Khamenei urged the Iraqi and Lebanese peoples to retain stability in their countries amid the mass unrest, claiming that the protests were inspired by Washington and Arab states.

    The violent protests in Iraq that erupted in recent months have led to social networks and messengers being banned, as well as the introduction of a curfew in several cities. Several checkpoints on the border with Iran have also been closed due to the unrest.

    The protesters oppose the deteriorating public services and corruption, urging the government to resign.

    The demonstrations in Lebanon were sparked by announced tax hikes on tobacco and internet calls but continued even after the government cancelled these plans. While the protests have largely not resulted in clashes with police, they have caused massive road blockages around the country.     “According to researchers, the organisation Ibn Rusdh, a major benefits recipient, spreads an activist brand of Islam, targetting newly arrived migrants and marginalised Muslims living in vulnerable neighbourhoods.

    Two senior Swedish researchers and associate professors Magnus Ranstorp and Aje Carlbom have highlighted the threat of parallel societies being indirectly funded through taxpayer money in a recent joint opinion piece in the daily newspaper Expressen.

    An illustrative example thereof, according to the researchers, is the student union Ibn Rushd which gets an annual SEK 23 million ($2.3 million) grant from the Adult Education Council (FR).

    “By paying SEK 23 million a year to Ibn Rush, FR strengthens a politically-oriented group, one that can be linked to the Muslim Brotherhood’s* ideological school”, the researchers wrote, describing the latter as “an Islamic minority that has been working to gain influence over Muslims’ religious thinking”.

    According to Ranstorp and Carlbom, this is tantamount to funding “institutionalised segregation with the aim of creating a parallel social existence for Swedish Muslims”. The unilateral support, they argued, permits the creation of an Islamic “parallel society” existing alongside the majority society. This goal is made clear by Ibn Rushd’s own terminology, which uses a specific term, “Muslim civil society”.

    Ibn Rushd’s largest areas of activity are the Arabic language and the Islamic way of life, whereas its target audience is new arrivals and marginalised Muslims living in vulnerable neighbourhoods, Ranstorp and Carlbom stressed.

    “Given that these target groups are at a long distance from the majority community, it is doubtful that studies in Arabic and Islam are contributing to opportunities for participation in Sweden’s democratic community”, they wrote, stressing that their target audience already enjoys ample opportunities to speak their native language, but lack everyday opportunities to socialise with Swedes and learn how Swedish society is structured.
    “Supporting activities that encourage further isolation from the norms and languages of the majority society thus becomes counterproductive”, they concluded.

    Ranstorp and Carlbom also stressed Ibn Rushd’s long history of inviting racist and anti-Semitic speakers, something, they ventured, no other organisation would have gotten away with.

    “Given that Ibn Rushd has been active as a study association since 2008, it is reasonable to assume that the association has long been aware that anti-Semitism is unacceptable in the Swedish majority society”, they stressed.

    Therefore, they concluded, the grants may be seen as an encouragement to spread “a certain activist interpretation of Islam” whose stated goal is to establish a “Muslim parallel society”.

    In 2019, professor of political science Erik Amnå published a study “When trust is tested”, criticising Ibn Rushd. The organisation met the criticism by accusing the critics of Islamophobia.

    Ibn Rushd derives its name from an Andalusian scholar, whose name is often westernised as Averroes.

    In 2017, the Swedish Agency for Youth and Society (MUCF) refused to fund the Association of Young Muslims, an umbrella organisation with over 30 member associations, concluding that the latter failed to respect the ideas of democracy and indulged in anti-Semitism and homophobia, and urging it to pay back funding from previous years. This became the starting point of a legal process over funding.

    A 2017 Pew Research report documents the Muslim population at 8.1 percent of the total population of Sweden (10 million).

    Magnus Ranstorp is an associate professor of political science at the National Defence College and is seen as one of Sweden’s leading researchers of terrorism, whereas Aje Carlbom is an associate professor of anthropology at Malmö University.

    The informant gave up detailed information including the precise interior layout of the compound and Baghdadi’s location inside at the time of the assault, during which Baghdadi detonated a suicide vest killing himself and three of his children, the officials said.

    “The mayor of the southern Italian town of San Severo has signed an agreement with local Bishop Giovanni Checchinato granting every Catholic parish the power to register migrants living under their roof.

    The scheme was orchestrated by Vatican Cardinal Konrad Krajewski, acting on behalf of Pope Francis, who reportedly told the cardinal “he cares about that deal dearly.” Krajewski said that the pope had intervened to persuade Mayor Francesco Miglio to establish this provision.

    “What we achieved today is a milestone for migrants and refugees,” said Krajewski, who is the Papal Almoner, responsible for the pope’s charitable works.

    San Severo is located in the region of Puglia and lies on the outskirts of the regional capital of Foggia, where there are thousands of migrants and refugees seeking permission to remain in Europe.

    “Technically the bishop, through the parish pastors, is giving them the address [necessary to register] —which is the street of Guardian Angel, that’s what we agreed on — and with that confirmation they go to the city hall, get the paperwork and are free to live a normal life,” the cardinal told Crux, a U.S.-based online Catholic news outlet.

    “We restored the human dignity of those people. This is what they were refused,” the cardinal said.

    “I told the mayor of the city this is what the courage of the Gospel is about,” said Krajewski. “We usually want to help the poor in the way we think is good for them. But they don’t need musical concerts. They need to take a shower. They need to have a bank account.”

    Immigration into Italy has experienced a resurgence under the nation’s new leftist government, which has opened its ports, reversing efforts by former interior minister Matteo Salvini to curb illegal immigration.

    Under Salvini’s leadership, migrant sea deaths in the Mediterranean drastically declined as fewer prospective migrants attempted the perilous journey.

    Mr. Salvini has slammed the unelected reigning coalition government for reigniting the nation’s migrant crisis by reopening borders to migrants and foreign NGOs.

    In a tweet, the leader of the Lega party recently noted the “2,498 arrivals in September compared with 947 in the same month a year ago,” while observing that in mid-October “landings have already exceeded 700, compared with the 1,007 for the entire October 2018.”

    The spike in new migrant arrivals has also produced a significant uptick in migrant deaths, Mr. Salvini has observed, a phenomenon the pro-immigration forces supposedly detest.

    Mr. Salvini blamed the leftist government’s new open-ports policy for the 13 who died off the coast of Lampedusa earlier this month.

    “These deaths are the results of do-gooders, of ‘there is room for everyone,’ of open ports, of renewed enthusiasm for the smugglers,” Salvini said.

    During his tenure in government, Salvini was quite literally demonized by the Catholic establishment in Italy, who called him everything from the Antichrist to Satan for his resistance to open borders.”

    “It’s a cold and humid autumn night but hundreds of migrants in an eastern Bosnian town have no option than to sleep rough in the streets as they wait to move on toward Western Europe in search of a better future.

    Their improvised beds lined up against the walls of Tuzla’s bus station, the migrants — including women and teenagers — have been spending chilly nights out in the open, with no facilities or organized help.

    “Because the winter is coming and it’s already very cold, people don’t have enough things to cover themselves,” said Mohammed Osman Ali, from Pakistan. “Two hundred people are sleeping on the road.”

    Migrants passing through the Balkans on their way toward Western Europe come to Tuzla after crossing into Bosnia from neighboring Serbia. Most are fleeing war or poverty in their home countries and want to continue toward the capital Sarajevo and on toward northwestern Bosnia, which borders European Union member state Croatia.

    Impoverished Bosnia has been struggling with the influx of thousands of people into the country that went through a devastating war in the 1990s. Bosnia’s feuding politicians have failed to agree on a joint migrant policy, while local communities have refused to host migrant centers on their territories…”

    “Turkey on Wednesday condemned two resolutions passed by the U.S. House of Representatives that symbolize deteriorating Turkish-American relations.

    Addressing his ruling party, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said he wouldn’t recognize the nonbinding House resolution to recognize the century-old mass killings of Armenians by Ottoman Turks as genocide. The bill passed 405-11.

    Erdogan then said Turkey “strongly condemns” a bipartisan bill to sanction senior Turkish officials and its army for Turkey’s incursion into northeastern Syria, which passed 403-16.

    Both bills, passed Tuesday, were a sign of further deterioration in Turkish-American relations, which have been strained over multiple issues, especially U.S. support for Syrian Kurdish fighters considered terrorists by Ankara.

    Turkey’s foreign ministry said that it summoned U.S. Ambassador David Satterfield on Wednesday over the resolutions.

    Turkey disputes the description of mass deportations and killings of Ottoman Armenians in 1915 as genocide and has lobbied against its recognition in the U.S. for years. It has instead called for a joint committee of historians to investigate…”

    “When a French official disrupted a regional council meeting to demand that a Muslim woman accompanying a group of schoolchildren be ordered to remove her headscarf, “in the name of our secular principles,” her own child buried his head in her shoulder and cried.

    The scene — too toxic even for official Julian Odoul’s far-right National Rally party — triggered a venomous national debate that is scrambling questions over the headscarf, Islam, immigration and radicalization.

    The clamor reached a crescendo with the shooting and wounding Monday of two Muslims outside a mosque in southwest France by a suspect with past links to the anti-immigration National Rally. The 84-year-old alleged gunman told investigators he attacked “to avenge the destruction of Notre Dame,” Paris’ grand cathedral ravaged by fire in April — which he blamed, inexplicably, on Muslims.

    In other times, the Oct. 11 confrontation at the council meeting in Dijon might have been but one more installment in France’s decades-long battle with itself over how to define, and enforce, secularism, a principle inscribed in the constitution more than a century ago to ensure neutrality regarding religions.

    But today’s uproar illustrates the growing unease — even contempt — by some sectors of society toward those Muslims seen as failing to join the French melting pot. Some contend it shows the normalization of Islamophobia in France.

    “The veil (headscarf) is seen as the symbol par excellence of religious visibility” and is “seen by some … as linked to radicalization,” said Nicolas Cadene, No. 2 in the government’s Observatory of Secularism.

    “We’re in a climate of a meeting of fears, emotions, instincts,” he said in an interview.

    For Cadene, French society is growing polarized as one part increasingly turns away from religion while another, notably Muslims, grows more visible. The attack inside Paris police headquarters early this month by a Muslim intelligence employee that left four dead raised already percolating tensions, he said.

    In all cases, he said, the debate shows the confusion over the 1905 law separating church and state, the basis of the country’s unusually important secular identity. He said the law is not meant to protect a “mythical identity, white and of Catholic culture” promoted by some.

    Islam is the No. 2 religion in a largely Catholic nation where many, especially the anti-immigration far-right, hone to France’s roots and view its Muslim population, which grew from the nation’s colonial past, as intruders and a threat to the French way of life, including secularism.

    Fifteen years ago, France forbid students from wearing “ostentatious” religious signs in classrooms. Seven years later, it became illegal to wear face-covering veils in French streets. While all showy religious signs are included in the 2004 law and all garments covering the face are banned in the 2011 measure, it has never been a secret that Muslims were the target.

    The mother who was the focus of Julian Odoul’s anger has said she decided to accompany a class because her son implored her to go.

    “What he told me when he was crying is that he felt everyone was against me,” the woman, identified only as Fatima E., told the Collective Against Islamophobia in France, which published the interview.

    “I felt a rejection I’ve never felt before,” she said. “Today, I have a negative opinion of what is called the Republic.”

    A caustic political climate five months before municipal elections is feeding today’s debate. A tattered mainstream right is trying to rebuild itself by playing the anti-immigration card, while a newly strengthened far right tries to lure them to its ranks.

    The French Senate approved a bill Tuesday proposed by the mainstream right that would oblige women wearing headscarves to remove them when accompanying school outings. The bill has almost no chance of becoming law since the lower chamber, controlled by President Emmanuel Macron’s centrist party, will almost certainly axe it.

    But the issue sparks discord even within Macron’s government. For Education Minister Jean-Michel Blanquer, “it is not desirable” for a mother to wear a headscarf on a field trip. Prime Minister Edouard Philippe says that it’s fine — as long as the mother doesn’t proselytize.

    Macron has shown cautious opposition to the idea.

    “The wearing of a veil (head covering) in public spaces is not my affair,” he said last week. “Laicite (secularism) isn’t about that.”

    The real concern, he stressed, is stigmatization of Muslims, the majority of whom have adopted the French way of life.

    Macron has concentrated on fighting radicalization and the apparent growth among Muslims of a community-based identity, which the French widely view as fertile ground for the propagation of political Islam.

    For some, the issues are linked.

    Far-right leader Marine Le Pen views the constant debate over the Muslim headscarf as a result of “massive immigration,” which, she contends, leads to such closed communities.

    “The veil is an ideological marker. It’s a marker of identity,” she said recently, also calling it a “political weapon” and “an infraction of secularism.”

    A poll by the Ifop firm published Sunday suggested that eight of 10 French think secularism is in danger.

    For Muslim groups, the mosque attack was the culmination of a growing climate of hate.

    A noted Lyon-area imam, Kamel Kabtane, denounced what he said was the “fractious and dangerous media and political campaign against Islam and Muslims.”

    Muslims fear more of the same from “the entrepreneurs of hate and violence” who want to “pit French against French,” he said.

    Barely a day goes by without a new round of soul-searching over secularism by politicians and pundits getting an unfiltered hearing in the French media.

    Abdallah Zekri, council member and head of the Observatory for Islamophobia, suggested that those who use Islam to build their reputations via TV talk shows simply “shut up.””

    “Turkey’s police chief has said 100 people have been detained in raids against the Islamic State and that the group was allegedly planning an attack.

    Police Chief Mehmet Aktas said Wednesday the suspects were detained in 26 raids across 21 provinces. They were allegedly preparing for a possible attack to coincide with Tuesday’s celebrations marking the 96th anniversary of the founding of the Turkish Republic.

    Turkey has stepped up security following IS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi’s death in a U.S. military raid in Syria. Police on Monday detained 20 foreign nationals suspected of IS links in a security sweep in Ankara.

    Turkey was hit by a wave of attacks in 2015 and 2016 blamed on IS and Kurdish militants that killed over 300 people.”

    “Kenyan police say suspected al-Shabab extremists raided a police post during an attempt to free two suspects who ended up dead in the melee.

    North Eastern regional police chief Paul Soi said Wednesday there had been plans to transfer the suspects from the Dadajabula police post in Wajir county near the border with Somalia, where al-Shabab is based.

    A police report seen by The Associated Press says officers fled amid heavy gunfire by an unknown number of men speaking Somali. Two policemen were wounded.

    It is not clear who killed the suspects in custody, but police blame the extremists. Kenyan police are often accused of extrajudicial executions.

    The al-Qaida-affiliated al-Shabab has carried out attacks inside Kenya after it sent troops in 2011 to Somalia to fight the extremists.”

    HONG KONG (Reuters) – Thousands of Hong Kong pro-democracy protesters, many of whom still wear now-banned face-masks, plan to combine with fancy-dress clubbers on Thursday in the party district of Lan Kwai Fong on a potentially dangerous and rowdy Halloween.

    The protesters say they will march, without police permission, from a park in the Causeway Bay shopping district through the heaving bar streets of Wan Chai to the steep, narrow foothills of the Peak above Central.

    Every weekend, office-goers and clubbers spill out of the Lan Kwai Fong bars on to the streets, even without the additional presence of protesters who have thrown petrol bombs at police, set fires and trashed buildings during five months of unrest.

  38. D.C. Circuit grants DOJ last-minute stay on releasing Mueller grand jury materials to House Democrats

    The U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit temporarily halted the release of grand jury materials from former special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation Tuesday, just hours ahead of their scheduled distribution.

    A three-judge panel issued a short directive saying the grand jury documents will be temporarily withheld while it considers an emergency appeal from the Department of Justice (DOJ), which hopes to shield those materials on a permanent basis.

    “The purpose of this administrative stay is to give the court sufficient opportunity to consider the emergency motion for stay pending appeal and should not be construed in any way as a ruling on the merits of that motion,” the decision reads.

    Do you enjoy internet memes featuring everything from superheroes to Spongebob? The House of Representatives voted to approve a new measure that could eradicate internet jokes which use copyrighted characters forever by threatening users with up to $30,000 fines.

    The House of Representatives voted overwhelmingly 410-to-6 in favor of the CASE Act. Some have nicknamed this legislation the “Anti-Meme law” because it could threaten people with up to $30,000 fines for creating memes which use copyrighted characters and imagery.

    The Case Act or The Copyright Alternative in Small-Claims Enforcement Act, which was proposed by Congressman Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) on January 5th, 2019, has as its purpose, as summarized by Niche Gamer, “to help content creators utilize a small claims court for copyright infringement, as the current law means copyright disputes must go through the more expensive federal courts.” In the CASE Act’s own words, its goal is to “to establish an alternative dispute resolution program for copyright small claims, and for other purposes.”

    As Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) observed the CASE Act “creates a new body in the Copyright Office which will receive copyright complaints, notify the person being sued, and then decide if money is owed and how much.”

    “This new Copyright Claims Board will be able to fine people up to $30,000 per proceeding” the EFF article added. It then added, “[I]f you get one of these notices (maybe an email, maybe a letter—the law actually does not specify) and accidentally ignore it, you’re on the hook for the money with a very limited ability to appeal.”

    EFF cautioned that fines of $30,000 “could bankrupt or otherwise ruin the lives of many Americans.”

    The Act indeed states,“[A] party that pursues any one or more claims or counterclaims in any single proceeding before the Copyright Claims Board may not seek or recover in that proceeding a total monetary recovery that exceeds the sum of $30,000.”

  42. Google employees claim the company has developed a new tool in their Chrome browser designed to find out if they are attempting to unionize.
    Google employees discovered earlier in October that developers were creating a new tool for their internal Chrome browser, which would automatically flag any workers who created an event and invited more than 100 people or booked more than 10 rooms.

    Four employees of the company told Bloomberg about the new software on the condition of anonymity, and told them that the most likely reason for its implementation is that it is “an attempt of leadership to immediately learn about any workers organization attempts.”

    According to the leakers, the tool will be rolled out by the end of the month, with some staffers already reporting it has been added to their computers last week.

    The tool was subject to an internal review at Google in early September; while it was approved for roll-out, the team were critical, saying there were “a number of concerns with respect to the culture at Google,” that it was “creepy,” and joked that it should be called “not-a-trojan-horse_dot_exe.”

    A mix of manned and unmanned warplanes could help the Air Force field the numbers and lethality it wants to win future wars.
    The U.S. Air Force is planning to field low-cost, unmanned “disposable” warplanes in the near future, designed to complement manned aircraft in the aerial battlefield. Unmanned aircraft can be purchased in greater numbers, growing the size of the Air Force’s tactical aircraft fleets, and can be sent on missions too hazardous for manned aircraft.

    Air Force officials, in comments made at the 2019 Defense News conference, stated that one of the technologies it was investing it was “low-cost, single use aircraft”. Fighter Jets World quotes Stephen Trimble, Defense Editor at Aviation Week & Space Technology on Twitter saying the Air Force now uses the term “reusable” and “disposable” when talking about the unmanned aircraft.

    When President Barack Obama was reelected in 2012, a Saudi tycoon and his business associate sent hundreds of thousands of dollars to the U.S. to help pay for the inaugural celebration and get a picture with the president, according to court documents and an analysis of campaign finance records by The Associated Press.

    U.S. election law prohibits foreign nationals from making those sorts of political contributions. But the donations Sheikh Mohammed Al Rahbani tried to send to Obama’s inaugural committee were funneled through a seasoned straw donor, the records and the AP analysis show.

    That intermediary, Imaad Zuberi, agreed this month to plead guilty to making illegal campaign contributions to several American political candidates on behalf of foreign nationals. He is also set to plead guilty to concealing his work as a foreign agent as he lobbied high-level U.S. government officials.

    The prosecution by the U.S. attorney in Los Angeles is the latest in a string of cases that highlight the prevalence of banned foreign money in American politics and the often lax approach campaigns take in vetting contributions.

    Zuberi, a jet-setting fundraiser and venture capitalist, has raised millions of dollars for Democrats and Republicans alike over the years. Prosecutors say he has worked on behalf of several foreigners, not just Rahbani.

    The President of Oklahoma Wesleyan University gave a lecture to students they’ll never forget.

    Recently, a student complained about a sermon that made him feel guilty and blamed the school for making students feel uncomfortable.

    This is not uncommon.

    Many universities now are so afraid of offending even one student, that political correctness has run amuck.

    However, this University is based on religion and so one would expect that discipline, good character and personal accountability would be a big part of the curriculum.

    Everett Piper, who is the President of the school, wrote a letter to the students admonishing them that playing the victim, blaming others and not admitting mistakes is not a way to live a productive and meaningful life. Here is the letter titled “This is Not a Day Care. It’s a University!”

    This past week, I actually had a student come forward after a university chapel service and complain because he felt “victimized” by a sermon on the topic of 1 Corinthians 13. It appears this young scholar felt offended because a homily on love made him feel bad for not showing love. In his mind, the speaker was wrong for making him, and his peers, feel uncomfortable.

    I’m not making this up. Our culture has actually taught our kids to be this self-absorbed and narcissistic. Any time their feelings are hurt, they are the victims. Anyone who dares challenge them and, thus, makes them “feel bad” about themselves, is a “hater,” a “bigot,” an “oppressor,” and a “victimizer.”

    The New York Times has obtained the opening statement of Lieutenant Colonel Alexander S. Vindman, the top White House expert on Ukraine, who will testify to the House Intelligence Committee on Tuesday about his concerns about President Donald Trump’s telephone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in July.
    The statement, leaked to the Times — though committee chair Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) has likened impeachment to a “grand jury” proceeding, which is typically conducted in secrecy — is described by the Times as the first account of someone who actually listened in on the telephone call, as opposed to hearing about it second- or third-hand.

    In his statement, Vindman — a Ukrainian-American and decorated Army officer who was awarded the Purple Heart after being wounded by a roadside bomb in Iraq — outlines his own views on “The Geopolitical Importance of Ukraine.” He adds: “The U.S. government policy community’ s view is that the election of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and the promise of reforms to eliminate corruption will lock in Ukraine’ s Western-leaning trajectory.”

    Vindman says that he became concerned in the spring of 2019 about “outside influencers promoting a false narrative of Ukraine inconsistent with the consensus views of the interagency.”

    That concern for the fate of the “consensus views of the interagency” informed Vindman’s approach to the president’s contacts with Zelensky.

    (Washington, DC) – Judicial Watch announced today it received through a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit 13 pages out of 42 responsive pages of communications between former FBI official Peter Strzok and DOJ official Bruce Ohr that the DOJ claimed previously it could not find.

    Judicial Watch obtained the documents in an April 2019 FOIA lawsuit filed after submitting July 2018 FOIA requests to the DOJ and the FBI. The FBI failed to respond, while the Justice Department claimed to find no records of communications between Strzok and Ohr (Judicial Watch v. U.S. Department of Justice (No. 1:19-cv-01082)). The lawsuit seeks:

    All records of communications between FBI official Peter Strzok and Bruce Ohr, in either his role as Associate Deputy Attorney General or Director of the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF), including but not limited to emails (whether on .gov or non-.gov email accounts, and whether using their real names or aliases), text messages, encrypted app messages and/or instant chats.

    In the lawsuit, Judicial Watch challenged the DOJ’s extraordinary claim that there were no records of communications between Strzok and Ohr in light of the preeminent role both individuals played in the anti-Trump collusion investigation. In addition, Ohr himself testified before Congress that he did, in fact, meet and communicate with Strzok.

    The documents show contact between Ohr and Strzok in the weeks after the 2016 presidential election, during the presidential transition, and in the days following President Donald Trump’s inauguration.

    Police have rescued twelve migrants from a refrigerated truck on a motorway car park outside Turnhout near Antwerp, after the driver, who was delivering fruit and vegetables at the time, alerted the law enforcement.     Several days ago, as many as twenty migrants were found safe and sound in two separate trucks in Belgium on Saturday (Oct 26), per local prosecutors. The truck, en route to the United Kingdom, stopped to deal with a tech ical issue at a garage, when the migrants were spotted.

    The issue has drawn particular attention of law enforcement officials since only last week, 39 migrants were found dead in a refrigerated lorry that had crossed to the UK illegally from another Belgian city – Zeebrugge, with the news shaking the whole world and triggering a new debate on illegal migration.

    A man from Northern Ireland was subsequently detained by the UK police on suspicion of conspiracy to traffic people and manslaughter after the shocking discovery was made as police checked his truck container on 23 October. The officials pointed out that, most or even perhaps all people had already died by the time their bodies were transferred into the man’s truck. Three more suspects were detained, namely on 39 counts of manslaughter and human trafficking, with both Belgian and British authorities pursuing a joint investigation amid increased scrutiny of the criminal case.”

    LONDON (Reuters) – A cyber attack on Asian ports could cost as much as $110 billion, or half the total global loss from natural catastrophes in 2018, a Lloyd’s of London-backed report said on Wednesday.

    Cyber insurance is seen as a growth market by insurance providers such as Lloyd’s, which specializes in covering commercial risks, although take-up in Europe and Asia remains far behind levels in the United States.

    The worst-case scenario in the report was based on a simulated cyber attack disrupting 15 ports in Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea and China. Some 92% or $101 billion of the total estimated economic costs of such an attack are uninsured, Lloyd’s said.

    The figure was calculated by simulating the impact of a computer virus carried by ships and which scrambles cargo database records at the ports.

    The report was produced by the University of Cambridge Centre for Risk Studies, on behalf of the Cyber Risk Management (CyRiM) project, in partnership with Lloyd’s.

    “Crime statistics in the French capital show a continued surge in violent crime, with some areas of the city seeing as much as a 70 per cent rise in violent incidents.

    The statistics, which were sent to the various mayors of the districts of the Paris region, show a nine per cent rise in violent attacks for a total of more than 35,000 assaults since the start of this year alone, according to analysis by Le Figaro.

    The 4th arrondissement of Paris has seen one of the sharpest rises in violent incidents linked to robberies with 487 offences reported so far this year, up 70 per cent from the previous 285. The 1st arrondissement, which contains the world-famous Louvre museum, saw a rise of 40 per cent.

    There is now an average of 650 offences of property damage every single day in the French capital. In the 4th arrondissement, cases have jumped by 31 per cent.

    Mayor of the 15th arrondissement Philippe Goujon, a member of the centre-right Republicans, called for a plan to stop the high number of burglaries.

    “It is time to adopt a plan against burglaries in Paris, with a real task force and resolute action against these networks of the former Eastern and Balkan countries who scour entire neighbourhoods of our cities, playing with our weak laws,” Mr Goujon said.

    While there is a possibility that the weekly Gilets Jaunes (Yellow Vest) protests have diverted police away from crimes, several crimes have gone down since the start of the year. Armed robberies have declined by 15.3 per cent, and car theft is down by 7.8 per cent.

    The figures follow reports from earlier in the year that showed crimes such as sex attacks on the public transport system had increased by as much as 30 per cent in 2018.

    Residents of the heavily migrant-populated 18th arrondissement went as far as to claim they felt abandoned by authorities due to the surge in crime in their area.

    Karim Drif, a local business owner in the area, was even forced to close his restaurant due to the rise in violence.

    “This restaurant was my life, my story… But I’m worn out. What do I do when knives fly around customers? When they have lunch on the terrace two metres away from drug traffickers?” he said.”
