Daily Links Post graphic

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

    • Even on the media headlines I’ve seen them call what I feel is the saner party “raciat/islam o phobic”

  1. It’s funny how most people don’t know how the 2003 Iraqi war began. I’m only half way into this movie but I can say so far it is relatively accurate.
If you know anything about the “oil for food” accommodation than you must know how totally corrupt it was. I give a special shout out to Germany who would sell their Grandmothers for a nickle in profit.
If you get Prime Amazon take a look at this movie. So far, IMO, it is tracking.

The Germans were totally complicit in breaking the oil for food sanctions as were the Russians.
When the US, after 21 violations of UN sanctions, reined hell over Iraq German and Russian “consultants” needed to get out fast. To this day I have a rather sick taste in my mouth about German industry. The Russians, I expected it.
Just think about the damage Germany did by wanting to import Mercedes to Iraq rather than sticking with the sanctions.

    • The oil for food program was a big a scandal as the Iran Deal, the left and the other lets make money while destroying the west groups have disappeared the real reasons for the war down the memory hole so they can vilify the people who want to remain free.

  2. Sorry to hear about your election results in Canada. Either you have a country filled with weak minded people or your your votes are not being counted.

    • Thank you!

This election, a historically high number of people voted in advance polls. 5 million, which for a little country like ours is a lot.

Problem is that this may have given Trudeau and his globalist allies an indication by how much they have to rig the vote…

  5. ELECTIONS: Who would have thought the Bloc Quebecois would become the Kingmaker? And they’re aligned with Justin Trudeau re the ‘Climate Change’ hoax and dishing out our money for third-world nations.

The BQ was very quiet, refused all comment pre-post debate. That should have sounded the alarm. And now, people know their agenda, although I doubt, so many are uninformed.

God Bless Alberta if they go toward separation from Canada.

  6. While I had low expectations for the Dystopia federal election, expecting a minority Liberal or Conservative result, the morning-after reality is more depressing than I’d imagined it would be.

Despite Dear Leader’s corruption, stupidity, radicalism and phoniness, he has wormed his way back into power, enabled by those even more radically-left than he.

The Red-Green alliance will be vastly strengthened and accelerating under this new regime. This minority government is composed of Left and More Left. The only voice of reason, Max Bernier, was booted into the proverbial wilderness.

The pre-election theater was, in retrospect, an expensive waste. Powerful MSM pundits such as Evan Solomon flicked Bernier off his shoulder like a dandruff flake by simply mumbling “racist”, and people bought it. There is about as much truly objective, critically-minded thinking going on in Dystopia as there is going on in Dear Leader’s empty little coconut. In the name of Diversity, he and his partners in power will assuredly find a way to shut down clear voices like VTB.

Young people here are offended by neither Communism nor Socialism. They are so brainwashed they believe Islam is strictly a religion. They can be made to do anything so long as it feels good.

The punchline to my sad little opinion is about the man sitting in the corner. He didn’t say much at all during this whole campaign. He sat in the corner out of the light. I don’t remember seeing a single politician even bring him a cup of tea. Max waved once, but he was busy fending off lies.

The man in the corner just watches to see what will happen and how he will be treated. If he is treated fairly he stays. If not he leaves. He is capital. He is the engine of the economy. He isn’t sentimental. He sees taxes rising and he doesn’t like it. He sees more regulation under capital-hostile socialism. Actually, he is completely misunderstood by the new regime so he will simply up and leave. He won’t even say good-bye.

When the capital hammer comes down on this joint, and every snowflake and parasite starts screaming for Big Brother to print them more money, Big Brother won’t do it. He won’t because the Keynesian pony ride will be over world wide, and the music will have stopped. That’ll be an ugly day.

    • Canada was fucked no matter how this election turned out. It is too late for us…

Our best hope is to move to Alberta and separate.

        • Remember that great Canadian singer from the East coast Rita McNeil? She’s gone now, but rumor had it that she had a huge tattoo of Canada on her arse. They say every time she farted, Quebec separated! I think the next four years will be a great challenge to unity.

  7. ‘We Know There Are Weapons in Deprived Areas, but We Have No Order to Retrieve Them’ – French Police (sputniknews, Oct 22, 2019)
    https://sputniknews.com/interviews/201910221077104582-we-know-there-are-weapons-in-deprived-areas-but-we-have-no-order-to-retrieve-them—french-police/

“A single operation in 50 French departments on 8-10 October helped the police detect and seize more than 400 rifles and machine guns, as well as about 200 pistols.

French police union leader Alexander Langlois has revealed a grim picture is behind victorious messages – in some areas drug trafficking groups hold significant amounts of weapons, but the risks of large-scale police intervention are causing unrest.

Therefore, the Ministry of Internal Affairs prefers to put up with the creeping militarisation of the suburbs.

Today, a Kalashnikov assault rifle can be bought on the French black market for €2,000, and as a result, not only gang members are armed, but also a new category of people – the so-called “survivors” who are preparing for a “disaster”, often saving 20-30 pistols for a rainy day.

“It’s unexpected that our colleagues are given the opportunity to go all the way”, Alexander Langlois, Head of the VIGI police union, said about a massive round-up. “Usually, the authorities are quite passive in responding to the arms trade”.

According to confidential information from the Ministry of Internal Affairs from July 2012, the number of Kalashnikovs seized in France has doubled. “In 2011, we seized 3,910 firearms, which is 44% more than in 2010″, then-Interior Minister Manuel Waltz said.

“It was an impressive PR war, but in reality, nothing was done, nothing moved forward”, Alexander Langlois lamented. (…) “The general public isn’t interested in weapons; the fight against them doesn’t contribute to voter support”.

“The police are ordered to solve priority tasks in accordance with the political situation, while they should ensure security in general”.

A successful police raid doesn’t mean that the fight against this type of crime in France has become more effective. Although the possession of weapons without permission is still illegal, those held accountable are most likely not residents of the deprived suburbs of large French cities.

“It’s easier to catch collectors [who illegally store weapons] – it won’t create any uproar, and they won’t take revenge”, Alexander Langlois said.

“We know that in some suburbs our interference may have resonance”. But the authorities look away: “We know that there are weapons in the suburbs, regardless of whether the municipal majority is right or left; but we have no order to seize them”, the head of the union said.

According to media reports, there are now 15,000 AK-47s in France. This data cannot be verified: “Everything that is illegal is hidden”.

According to Alexander Langlois, the proliferation of weapons is connected to a change in the structure of the underworld:

“Several clans are involved in drug trafficking. Organised crime no longer controls it. Small clans open fire, settling scores among themselves”.

“The era of robberies is almost over. There are much more profitable types of criminal activity that you can do without armed attacks. Today, criminals use weapons not to attack the police, but to settle scores among themselves. There is an exception: terrorism. But lately, terrorists have been using firearms less and less, while using a knife more often”.
Weapons are available not only to those who sell them but also to the “survivors”. They “buy weapons for self-defence, anticipating a catastrophe. Sometimes we find caches, with 20 to 30 weapons inside”.

“The illegal possession of weapons in France is not a problem. About 20 years ago, it became easier after the collapse of the eastern bloc and with lower prices. But I think that the increase in the number of weapons is explained more by growing demand than by its availability”.
On the black market, the AK-47 only costs €2,000-2,500. “Those who supply these rifles are engaged in a very profitable business. €2,500 for an AK-47 is a bargain. If this makes it possible to find a place in a foreign market, this is an extremely profitable investment”, Alexandre Langlois explained.

“Those who intend to carry out an attack understand that they won’t be able to stay alive. So they can invest all their savings in weapons. In fact, weapons are accessible to everyone”.

Alexandre Langlois sees the political climate as the being involved in this.

“If there was a massacre using weapons (it doesn’t matter for what reason), the authorities would really take action. But in a month they would still switch to solving a more urgent task”.”

    • Looks like some people in France can see what is coming and are preparing for the collapse of society.

  8. Iraqi military issue threat to ‘unwelcome’ US troops leaving Syria (express, Oct 22, 2019)
    https://www.express.co.uk/news/world/1193930/us-troops-iraq-syria-kurdish-fighters-turkish-military-operation

“IRAQ has warned US troops that have crossed into the country from Syria they do not have permission to stay there.

The US forces entered Iraq as their controversial withdrawal from Kurdish-held northeastern Syria continues. But an Iraqi military spokesman said: “All US forces that withdrew from Syria received approval to enter the Kurdistan Region so that they may be transported outside Iraq. There is no permission granted for these forces to stay inside Iraq.”

US military vehicles were pelted with potatoes and stones as they drove through Kurdish-dominated cities on their way out of Syria.

Video footage shows angry residents hurling anti-US insults as a convoy of armoured vehicles made its way through the city of Qamishli.

People shouted: “No America, America liar” in English. Another man shouted in Arabic: ”Like rats, America is running away.”

The film shows on US military vehicle reversing over a footpath in an attempt to get away from the crowd.

Another video, filmed in the city of Erbil in Iraqi Kurdistan, shows young people throwing stones at a convoy and yelling expletives as it drives past.

In another video a man holds a sign saying: “Thanks for US people, but Trump betrayed us.”

Donald Trump has defended his decision to withdraw troops from Syria and insisted the US never promised to protect the Kurds forever.

His abrupt decision earlier this month to withdraw troops from northern Syria has been criticised in Washington and elsewhere as a betrayal of loyal Kurdish allies who had fought for years alongside US troops against ISIS.

The Turkish border offensive, following a US troop pullback that in effect gave Turkey the go-ahead to invade, ended Syrian Kurdish rule of “Rojava” – their name for northeastern Syria – and left Iraqi Kurdistan as the Kurds’ only self-governed land.

Iraqi Kurdish President Nechirvan Barzani said the US withdrawal from Syria was “undesirable” but insisted the semi-autonomous region appreciated the America’s historical role in protecting it.

The statement underscored the cautious reaction from Iraqi Kurdish leaders who did not condemn neighbouring Turkey for an assault on northeastern Syria that has sent thousands of Kurds fleeing.

Iraqi Kurdistan relies on Turkish pipelines to export oil and the countries have close political ties.

Mr Barzani said: “We understand the high emotions of our people but the appreciation for the role and contribution of the coalition forces, especially the United States military, should not be affected by undesirable political decisions.”

He said US troops had “played a major role” protecting the Kurdistan region over the past three decades.

He said: “They have fought and bled alongside the Peshmerga forces in defending the Kurdistan region.””

Sahar, who is from Wales and wears a niqab, spoke about the racist slurs she’s endured, and said she was terrified of being murdered like the late Labour MP.

Speaking in Channel 5’s Hate Crime: Uncensored, which aired last night, Sahar said she feels that ‘angry white working class men’ are taking their hatred out on Muslim women.

Sahar explained she was called a ‘letter box’ by a white man in a suit after Boris Johnson used the term in a Daily Telegraph column to describe women wearing the burqa.

  11. Poll: Matteo Salvini is the Most Trusted Politician in Italy (breitbart, Oct 22, 2019)
    https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2019/10/22/poll-matteo-salvini-is-most-trusted-politician-italy/

“A recent poll found that former Minister of the Interior and current leader of the right-wing populist League party, Matteo Salvini, is the most trusted Italian politician.

Matteo Salvini topped the list of most trusted politicians in Italy, with 39 per cent of respondents saying they back the Italian firebrand, reported Il Giornale. He currently leads Italy’s Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte, who has the support of 35 per cent of the Italian public.

Head of the right-wing party The Brothers of Italy, Giorgia Melonile, came in at third, with 29 per cent saying they trusted her.

The poll conducted by Agorà, an Italian current affairs show, also showed that Salvini’s populist League remained the most popular party, with 31.8 per cent supporting.

Both parties comprising the current left-wing coalition government in Italy, the Five Star Movement and the Democratic Party, polled under 20 per cent.

Tens of thousands gathered on Saturday for an “Italian Pride” rally in Rome that saw Salvini joined by Giorgia Melonile and former prime minister and head of the Forza Italia party, Silvio Berlusconi.

Addressing his supporters, Salvini said: “This is the Italy that works and suffers, that dreams and hopes.”

As supporters shouted her name from the piazza, Melonile said: “We are people. And we have our identity. I am Giorgia, I am a woman, I am a mother, I am Italian, and I am Christian, and you cannot take that away from me.”

A 61-year-old woman who attended the rally said to the Associated Press: “We ask Matteo (Salvini) to lead us to the polls as soon as possible. And once we’ll be finally allowed to vote, we’ll win big.”

If Salvini, Melonile, and Berlusconi’s respective parties strike an alliance, pollsters believe they would easily have enough support to gain control of the Italian parliament in the next election.”

  12. UK Population Set to Hit 70m in Just over a Decade, Three-Quarters Driven by Migration (breitbart, Oct 22, 2019)
    https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2019/10/22/uk-population-70m-decade-three-quarters-driven-net-migration/

“By mid-2028, the population of the UK is set to increase by three million to 69.4 million, primarily driven by immigration.

According to projections published on Monday by the Office for National Statistics (ONS), 73 per cent of the growth is predicted to be due to the net international immigration of 2.2 million people. Less than one-third, 27 per cent, of the increase will be due to natural population growth (more births than deaths).

The government statistics agency made that immigration prediction based on the average annual net long-term international migration of 190,000. That figure is derived from the average immigration figures from mid-1993 to mid-2018. In terms of gross immigration, 5.4 million people are expected to immigrate long-term to the UK in the ten years to mid-2028.

The ONS also predicts that the population will pass the 70 million mark by mid-2031.

However, The Times noted that the 70 million mark could be hit far sooner. Based on a higher projection offered by the ONS, where net migration runs at around 290,000 a year, that level could be reached in the next eight or nine years.

That figure is not far off the total net migration for the year to September 2018, in data the ONS revealed in February. In that preceding 12-month period, net migration — gross immigration minus emigration — was at 283,000. Total immigration for that period was 627,000 people, while 345,000 people left the UK (emigrated).

Commenting on the release, Migration Watch UK’s chairman, Alp Mehmet, said in a press release: ‘This is a staggering projection. What the ONS is saying is that, if the level of net migration remains at about the average of the past five years, the population will rise to 71 million within 15 years, or another five million people.

“In such a scenario, more than 90 per cent of the increase would be due to the impacts of new immigrants and the children they then go on to have in the UK.”

Mr Mehmet added: “Looking further ahead, if net migration continues at that level then by the time a child born this year reaches his or her 18th birthday there would be another 6.3 million people. This will mean further unbearable pressure on housing, transport, schools, university places. The impact now is huge, but it will be even greater on the next generation.

“This underlines how crucial it is for post-Brexit border reforms to deliver a significant reduction in the level of net arrivals. No wonder 30 million people — 3 in 5 UK adults — wish to see this happen.”

London is also set to hit a milestone within a decade, according to predictions published in April, with the population projected to hit 10 million by 2029. Again, international migration is set to be the driving factor, with an estimated 172,000 foreigners arriving in the capital each year.

Migration Watch UK analysed government statistics and in a report published in August 2018, suggested that 82 per cent of all population growth since the beginning of the 21st century has been due to the impact of migration.

Breitbart London reported in August 2019 that the birth rate in England and Wales had fallen to its lowest level since records began in 1938 — meaning that the current birth rate is even smaller than during the war years, when the country was robbed of its young men who were fighting on the fronts in Europe, Africa, and Asia.”

  13. Afghan official: Taliban storm checkpoint, kill 15 policemen (abcnews, Oct 22, 2019)
    https://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/afghan-official-taliban-storm-checkpoint-kill-15-policemen-66434899

“The Taliban stormed a checkpoint in northern Afghanistan, killing at least 15 policemen in the latest attack by insurgents, an Afghan provincial official said Tuesday.

The multi-pronged attack on the checkpoint in the Ali Abad district of northern Kunduz province began late on Monday night and set off an hours-long gunbattle, according to Ghulam Rabani Rabani, a provincial council member. Along with the 15 policemen killed, two other officers were wounded in the assault, he said.

The attack came as Afghan troops have been battling the Taliban for the past few weeks in Kunduz’s Dashti Archi and Imam Sahib districts, Rabani added. Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid claimed responsibility for the checkpoint attack.

The Taliban have a strong presence in Kunduz and are in control in several of the province’s districts…”

    • Warren Threatens Israel: ‘Everything Is On the Table’

Senator Elizabeth Warren (D., Mass.) took a hard line on Israel Saturday saying “everything is on the table” in imposing a two-state solution to the Arab-Israeli conflict.

“It is the official policy of the United States of America to support a two-state solution, and if Israel is moving in the opposite direction, then everything is on the table,” Warren said during a press availability with reporters Saturday.

In a formulation more commonly deployed by previous presidents in threatening the use of force against America’s enemies, Warren repeated the phrase but did not clarify precisely what pressure—military or otherwise—might be brought to bear.

“Right now, [Israeli prime minister Benjamin] Netanyahu says he is going to take Israel in a direction of increasing settlements, [but] that does not move us in the direction of a two-state solution,” Warren was quoted as saying.

Warren’s remarks come as the left wing of the Democratic Party has increasingly embraced boycotts of the Jewish state.

Her remarks are likely to raise eyebrows in the Jewish and pro-Israel communities, which, while largely Democratic, continue to favor the U.S. alliance with the region’s only democracy.

  14. Norway: Two babies hurt after man runs down several people in stolen ambulance

An armed man was shot and arrested by police at the scene following the incident in the northern part of Oslo.

An armed man has been shot and arrested after he stole an ambulance and drove into people in Oslo, injuring twin babies.

Three people were hurt in total – including the babies who were in a pram – when the man struck a family, Norwegian police and hospital officials told Reuters.

A woman who was pushing the pram and the infants are being treated in hospital, as well as an elderly couple, officers said.

Police said they shot and wounded the man before arresting him at the scene, adding he was not critically injured.

“Two babies were injured after the hijacked ambulance hit a family. They are twins, seven months old, they are being treated,” an Oslo University hospital spokesman said.

The hospital spokesman added that two of the hospital’s ambulances were involved.

He said: “One was hijacked by an armed person with a shotgun. Some minutes later one of our other ambulances managed to stop the hijacked vehicle by crashing into it.

“Then the police came after the crash and got him.”

Three employees in the ambulance when it was stolen were unharmed, the spokesman added.

Police also said they were looking for a woman who may have been involved in the incident.

Pictures from the scene show police cars surrounding the stolen ambulance after it appeared to have crashed into a house.

It also showed images of an ambulance driving in the Torshov neighbourhood of Oslo as several gunshots were fired.

The Aftenposten newspaper also published a photo of a man wearing green trousers lying next to a vehicle surrounded by police officers.

Another photo showed a handcuffed man, flanked by police, walking towards an ambulance stretcher.

One witness, Omar Khatujev, told the newspaper that he saw “the ambulance driving at high speed towards me… and right behind a police car. I heard several shots.”

Police did not state whether the incident was being treated as a deliberate attack, and did not say if anyone had died.

“An armed man stole an ambulance, drove away and hit some people. We got him now,” the police spokesman said.

Oslo police also tweeted: “We are in control of the ambulance that was stolen. Shots were fired to stop him. He is not in critical condition.”

  15. Hong Kong government pledges more aid to battered city, no end in sight to unrest

HONG KONG (Reuters) – Hong Kong’s embattled government announced extra financial support on Tuesday for the Chinese-ruled city battered by political unrest and facing its first recession in a decade.

Massive and violent anti-government protests over the past five months have shaken Hong Kong’s reputation as an Asian financial center and damaged its all important tourism and retail sectors, with many businesses forced to close.
    Report Ad

Financial Secretary Paul Chan announced relief measures of HK$2 billion ($255 million) to support the city’s economy, particularly in its transport, tourism and retail industries.

“Since the economic situation is worsening quite fast, we rolled out this package to target certain sectors which are hard hit,” Chan told a news conference.

The move follows a HK$19.1 billion ($2.4 billion) package in August to support the underprivileged and businesses, and Chan said more assistance would be given if needed. The support measures would ultimately increase the “probability of a fiscal deficit”, but the government’s finances were strong, he said.

  16. Russia: Putin, Erdogan hold tete-a-tete in Sochi

Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Turkish counterpart President Recep Tayyip Erdogan held a private meeting without delegations in Sochi on Tuesday.

According to the Kremlin, the two leaders are expected to discuss “the developments in Syria, including the normalisation of the situation in the country’s north-eastern regions,” just hours before the five-day US-brokered truce in northern Syria is set to expire.

Turkey’s military offensive, dubbed ‘Operation Peace Spring,’ began on October 9, days after the White House announced the withdrawal of US troops from the area.

Turkey agreed to suspend operations on October 17 to let Kurdish-led forces withdraw, following talks in Ankara between Erdogan and US Vice President Mike Pence.

  17. Report: Durham probe seeks interviews with Brennan and Clapper
By Daily Caller News Foundation October 22, 2019

U.S. Attorney John Durham intends to interview former CIA Director John Brennan as part of his investigation into U.S. intelligence agencies’ activities in the Trump-Russia probe, according to NBC News.

Brennan told NBC News, where he is an analyst, that both he and James Clapper, the former director of national intelligence, are sought for interviews with Durham’s investigators. The interviews, should they occur, would signal that Durham is expanding his investigation.

Attorney General William Barr appointed Durham to oversee an inquiry into U.S. agencies’ Trump-related intelligence-gathering activities earlier this year. Barr said he was not satisfied with official explanations about the origins of the investigation into possible ties between the Trump campaign and Russian government.

“Face to Face with Fascism in America”
    by Simona Pipko – September 28, 2019

    Excerpt:

President Trump is targeted because he presents an existential threat to both the Deep State and The Axis of Evil run by Russia. We are dealing with the army of Globalists, an aggressive international force aimed at turning the American Republic into the Union of Socialist American States. To identify the chain of events, and origin of the anti-Trump cabal it is crucial to investigate the McCabe and McAuliffe actions inflaming the events in Charlottesville, Virginia, 8 July 2017. Hence, the primary task of DOJ is investigating the investigators, the Dems’ leadership and their collaboration with the KGB–an International Watergate No.2. Alas, Tom Cotton is not the FBI Director.

‘[W]e have been informed that it was part of a protest by students of color’

The University of Wisconsin-Madison got fooled by yet another racial hoax.

The administration alerted the community mid-morning Friday morning that a seemingly racist sign that popped up on campus overnight “appear[s]” to have been “part of a protest calling attention to experiences of underrepresented students.”

“A leading rights group on Tuesday said it has evidence of potential war crimes by Libyan factions fighting a months-long battle for Tripoli, the capital.

London-based Amnesty International said its investigation showed that the warring parties have killed and maimed scores of civilians, with both sides having launched indiscriminate attacks and using inaccurate explosive weapons in populated urban areas.

Forces loyal to Khalifa Hifter, a veteran army officer based in the country’s east, began an offensive to capture Tripoli in early April, clashing with an array of militias loosely allied with a U.N.-supported but weak government based in the capital. The fighting has stalled in recent weeks, with both sides dug in and shelling one another along the city’s southern reaches.

Amnesty said Tripoli-based authorities and the LNA didn’t responded to its questions about the strikes…”

    https://abcnews.go.com/International/7000-syrian-refugees-arrive-iraq-days/story?id=66440161

“Over 7,100 refugees arrived in Iraq from Syria within seven days, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) said on Tuesday, as Turkish forces targeted Kurdish regions after the U.S. withdrew troops.

A majority of the people — three out of four — are women and children, including unaccompanied minors, UNHCR spokesperson Andrej Mahecic said at a press briefing in Geneva. Mahecic added that many “require psycho-social first aid” and that some witnessed the violence that has been occurring in the region this month.

The people crossed from northeast Syria into Iraq between last Monday, Oct. 14, and this Monday, Oct. 21. They are primarily being held at a camp at Bardarash, Iraq, which is being managed by the local Board of Relief and Humanitarian Affairs, a UNHCR partner…”

“An Iranian beauty queen is begging the Philippines for asylum, fearing that she will be killed if she is deported after Tehran demanded her extradition for assault.

Bahareh Zare Bahari, a dental student who represented Iran at the 2018 Miss Intercontinental pageant in Manila, has been detained at Ninoy Aquino airport for six days after Iran put out an Interpol Red Notice.

The 31-year-old says the assault charge is ‘a big lie,’ believing she has been targeted for her political views on the Islamic Republic and support of women’s rights.

If sent back to her homeland, ‘They will kill me,’ she told The Telegraph, ‘There is no updating, no information about the reason why [they] keep me here so long.’.

The Philippine authorities said she had been ‘restrained’ from entering their territory because of the Red Notice.

The charge against Ms Bahari is one of assault and battery and relates to an alleged incident with an Iranian national in the Philippines.

However, Markk Perete of the Philippine department of justice, told The Telegraph: ‘We don’t have any cause for refusing her entry for violation of our laws.’

Her asylum bid is now under review and she is receiving legal counsel…”

  27. Forget Syria. What Is The U.S. Doing About The Failed State On Its Southern Border?
A failed state just surrendered a drug lord’s son and a whole city to a drug cartel. In a sensible world, this would ring alarm bells in the Pentagon.
    Sumantra MaitraBy Sumantra Maitra
    OCTOBER 22, 2019
How would one categorize a nation-state whose army gives a drug baron’s son to cartel members after suffering brutal losses in pitched battles? The country whose firebrand leftist president apologized on television and said the army’s surrender to a drug cartel was the correct thing to do, because “we do not want war”?

If the reports are correct, this is precisely what happened in Mexico, around the same time the Democratic presidential primary field was debating whether there should be more trillion-dollar expenditures in the U.S. budget. Instead, a failed state on the southern border of the United States should ring alarm bells in the Pentagon.

A map in the BBC showed how Mexico is divided into four cartel zones, similar to warlords in Afghanistan or Libya. A few days back, Mexican National Guards surrounded drug lord El Chapo’s son in a house and after a heavy gunfight forced him to surrender and be arrested.

Then all hell broke loose. Cartel members surrounded the house and forced security to retreat. The army was called in after heavy violence, and even they were fought to a standstill. While there were not many reports of this in American mainstream media, social media was lit with videos of the Mexican military being surrounded by the cartel members.

There were also videos of Sinaloa cartel members in armored cars, with anti-tank grenade launchers, and heavy machine guns patrolling the streets of Mexican cities. In short, the balance of power passed to the hands of drug gangs, militias, and cartel members, who rioted, freed prisoners, and humiliated the national government.

  29. Turkey’s Pyrrhic Victory in Syria

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdo?an is wrong to think a cross-border military operation into Syria will solve an ethnic conflict that dates back to the early nineteenth century. The recent history of violence between Turkey and the Kurds together with demographic considerations explain why a military campaign is unlikely to resolve the conflict.

Turkey’s military incursion into northeastern Syria had an ostensibly happy ending on its seventh day, with all state and non-state actors in the Syrian theater appearing to be winners of some sort: US president Donald Trump claimed the ceasefire he brokered between Turkey and Syria’s Kurds would save millions of lives; Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdo?an claimed the incursion cleared a vast zone of Kurdish terrorists; Russia won control over a region evacuated by US forces; the Syrian regime advanced into areas it left to the Kurds in 2012; and the Kurds found new allies in Moscow and Damascus.

None of that will bring sustainable peace to a geography perpetually in turmoil.

Turkey’s most recent war on the Kurdish insurgency, which has lasted 35 years so far, has caused over 40,000 casualties by the most optimistic estimate. This period of violence began in 1984 when the PKK – the main Kurdish insurgency group, listed by Turkey, the US, and the EU as a terrorist organization – killed 33 unarmed Turkish soldiers in Eruh, in southeast Turkey. The PKK has killed thousands more Turkish troops since then, as well as government workers, Kurds who refuse to cooperate, and civilians. In response, the Turkish military resorted to brutal methods of suppression, particularly in the 1990s. Those methods included the torture and killing of civilian activists. By any reasonable criteria, this has been an ugly war.

Cardinal Dominik Jaroslav Duka: ” the gender ideology is targeted against the family”

Interview with Cardinal Dominik Jaroslav Duka, Primate of the Czech Republic: “The gender ideology is targeted against the family.”

Czechia – An interview conducted by Maciej Szymanowski, from the Felczak Institute of Polish-Hungarian cooperation, and Pawe? Lisicki, editor in chief of the Polish weekly magazine Do Rzeczy. The interview have been published in Polish in Do Rzeczy and some excerpts in English on kurier.plus. We republish the selection of Kurier.plus:

Cardinal Dominik Jaroslav Duka: In my opinion, here the grandeur of Pope Pius XII also shines through in his ability to identify such men and put them at the helm of the Church in such difficult times.

I think that amongst all of them Cardinal Mindszenty was the most prominent example. His fate was excruciatingly painful. It is not my intention to belittle the suffering endured by Cardinals Wyszy?ski, Stepinac or even Beran. In a speech before his arrest, the Czech Primate was essentially quoting Mindszenty.

Some time in the past I asked for Cardinal Mindszenty’s biography to be translated, as I think it important for people in the Czech Republic to know as much as possible about him. The failure of the 1956 Hungarian Revolution resulted in a major shakeup. Even though 1948 in Czechoslovakia marked a departure from a policy of maintaining a certain degree of democracy in that country, social resistance was far from being crushed, it survived years of Gottwald’s Stalinism but was broken by the unsuccessful Hungarian Revolution. Following the events in Hungary, peasants’ resistance against forced collectivisation was shattered. The same can be said about the resistance put up by other social strata, which consented to the “communism for eternity” vision.

    (…)

Maciej Szymanowski and Pawe? Lisicki: The events in Hungary were that significant for the Czechs.

Cardinal Dominik Jaroslav Duka: Yes. In the 1950s we enjoyed the highest attendance rates at holy masses. Even those who periodically exhibited anti-Catholic tendencies, began returning to the Church, going to holy masses. It was more than just a political statement, but rather an appreciation of the fact that only the Church had the strength to actively resist. The strength shown by the aforementioned Primates.

And it wasn’t only collectivisation which came next, but also mass migration from the country to towns and cities, where our “migrants” from the country became lost, both politically and religiously.

What does Your Excellency make of Archbishop Marek J?draszewski’s assertion that communist ideology had been replaced by LGBT ideology, that “the red plague has been replaced by a rainbow coloured plague”?

I heard about the remarks by the Kraków Metropolitan in a statement by the head of the Episcopal Conference of Poland, Archbishop G?decki. I would like to say that for me, in this context the use of the word “plague” is entirely understandable. One has to bear in mind that the red plague deprived Europe of more than a quarter of its population. And the gender ideology is targeted against the family. And the word for family in Old English was hiwan, with hiwo and hiwa meaning husband and wife respectively… We can all see that Europe is threatened by a very serious demographic crisis, which today’s politicians are struggling to come to terms with.

    • Thank you X for the link. I know little about the Czech Republic but I found this interview to be very realistic. If more Christian leaders were this level headed, and not chasing off to the latest trend, I don’t think the West would be in the mess that it is.

The bill targets using the word “to accost, annoy, degrade or demean” another person.

A Boston Democrat has proposed a state law that would penalize the use of the b-word when used to demean another person.

The bill, filed by state Rep. Dan Hunt in May, is slated to go before the Joint Committee on the Judiciary Tuesday afternoon.

The measure proposes adding two sentences to the section of state law that assigns fines and other penalties for various offenses, such as crimes for common night walkers, indecent exposure, and disturbers of the peace.

“A person who uses the word ‘bitch’ directed at another person to accost, annoy, degrade or demean the other person shall be considered to be a disorderly person in violation of this section,” the bill says.

Alleged violations can either be reported by the person the word was directed at or by witnesses, the proposal says.

According to the bill, penalties would be similar to those outlined in the other subsections of the state law, which, depending on the subsection, provide for a fine of not more than either $150 or $200, or jail time of up to six months,

  32. Dozens arrested at Rotterdam protest against Turkish offensive in Syria
    https://nltimes.nl/2019/10/17/dozens-arrested-rotterdam-protest-turkish-offensive-syria

A demonstration against the Turkish offensive in northeastern Syria in Rotterdam on Wednesday evening got completely out of hand. Protesters and counter protesters clashed multiple times. Three police officers were injured. A total of 23 of protesters were arrested, the Rotterdam police said on Twitter.

The demonstration started on Kruisplein at 7:00 p.m. The atmosphere was grim from the start. Kurdish protesters shouted that Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan is a terrorist, while Turkish protesters waved flags and chanted ‘Turkey, Turkey’, AD reports. One group set off fire works, the other group set signs against Erdogan on fire.

Chaos broke out when a group of Kurdish demonstrators tried to approach the counter-demonstrators. The riot police carried out multiple charges to keep the groups apart. The demonstration moved to Rotterdam Central Station, where riot police officers tried to keep the groups separate and away from travelers with shields. There were multiple small fights outside the station, with police arresting suspects. Multiple weapons were seized. One cop broke his writs. Multiple others sustained less serious injuries.

A group of Kurdish protesters were eventually locked in on Stationsplein, in an attempt to restore public order. Counter-protesters continually tried to reach them. The group of Kurdish protesters was taken away, but not arrested.

Prime Minister Mark Rutte condemned what happened in Rotterdam on Wednesday evening. Demonstrations are allowed, but only in a civilized manner. “We obey the law. The shouting of the one should never lead to the other not being heard. The government will protect this. We must resolve social conflicts through dialogue and respect. And not like tonight in Rotterdam”, he said on Wednesday.

The Kurdish community is demonstrating against the Turkish offensive in northeastern Syria. The protesters are very concerned about the Kurds in the border region in Syria and want the government to take action – implement sanctions against Turkey and fight for a no-fly zone in Rojava and northern Syria, according to the newspaper.

The Turkish government regards the Kurdish militia YPG in Syria as an extension of the PKK, the Kurdish labor party that is considered a terrorist organization by Turkey, as well as the European Union and the United States. Turkey invaded Syria soon after the United States withdrew their troops from the area.
