Daily Links Post graphic

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

  1. WATCH: Street battles between Kurds and Turks also in Linz, Austria+++
A pursuit of people in broad daylight: A private video shows frightening scenes from the Upper Austrian provincial capital Linz. On the country road, a large group of allegedly Kurdish protesters are following a man. He is knocked to the ground, and the men step on him as if out of their senses. Women standing around scream loudly in fear. There is no police to be seen.Loud cries of panic and fear drown out the scene. A large group of men, who probably belong to a Kurdish rally, are pursuing a man who could be of Turkish origin.People disturbed all around. Women, children, passers-by who just wanted to do their shopping. People here are not used to war scenes from the Orient. The incident must have happened on October 14 or earlier on the street Linzer Landstrasse, because the video appears in social media from the night of October 15.

    • This video is showing the spread of the Turkish attempt at what will probably turn into a genocide of the Kurds. The video of the new column of invaders marching through Bosnia shows how the fighting is going to spread to Europe. The Merkel leftists aren’t going to be able to prevent the native Europeans from organizing to protect themselves.

  2. Rouhani Urges Global Community to Oppose ‘Inhumane and Illegal’ US Actions Against Iran (sputniknews, Oct 18, 2019)
    https://sputniknews.com/middleeast/201910181077084092-iran-us-sanctions-president-rouhani/

“Washington reinstated its harsh economic sanctions against Tehran last year, following President Trump’s unilateral move to withdraw from the 2015 Iran nuclear deal, also known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action.

Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani has urged the international community to stand up to Washington’s anti-Iranian sanctions, which he said ride roughshod over all countries, including the United States itself.

“We hope all our friends around the world, including South Africa, will take a more decisive stance against the US illegal and inhumane actions towards the Iranian nation which even include food and medicine sanctions,” Rouhani said during a meeting with the South African Minister of International Relations and Cooperation Naledi Pandor on Wednesday as cited by Iran’s Tasnim news agency.

The Iranian President also condemned the US’ “economic war” against Tehran following Washington’s withdrawal from the 2015 Iran nuclear deal, also known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

Pandor lauded Iran remaining committed to the JCPOA, calling on the US to return to the deal and scrap the Iranian sanctions.

Rouhani’s remarks followed his statement late last month that the US had offered to drop all sanctions against Iran in exchange for negotiations.

“But this action wasn’t in a manner that was acceptable, meaning that in the atmosphere of sanctions and the existence of sanctions and the toxic atmosphere of maximum pressure, even if we want to negotiate with the Americans in the 5+1 framework [which also includes Russia, China, Germany, France, and the UK], no one can predict what the end and result of this negotiation will be,” Rouhani pointed out.
US President Donald Trump claimed at the time that it was the Iranian side which was asking for restrictions to be cancelled, but that he refused to do so.

Tehran Ready for Talks With US If Washington Lifts Sanctions, Rouhani Says
Earlier, Rouhani underscored that Iran is ready to hold negotiations with the United States if Washington lifts the anti-Iranian sanctions and gives up its “bullying” policy toward Tehran.

He added that Iran had shifted its approach from “strategic patience” to “reciprocal action” and would respond in kind to any of Washington’s steps related to the nuclear deal.
Rouhani spoke as Berlin, Paris, and London called for a dialogue between all parties to the JCPOA, warning that the deal risks falling apart due to the US sanctions against Iran and Tehran’s decision to partially discontinue its obligations under the agreement.

Iran Suspends Some of Its JCPOA Obligations
On 8 May 2018, Trump unilaterally withdrew his country from the JCPOA and imposed several rounds of economic sanctions on Iran. Exactly a year later, Tehran announced its own decision to partially suspend some obligations under the JCPOA deal, also giving the other signatories – France, Germany, the United Kingdom, Russia, China, and the European Union – 60 days to save the accord by facilitating oil exports and trade with Iran.

On 7 July as the deadline expired, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi announced that his country was ready to begin enriching uranium beyond the 3.67 percent level set in the JCPOA, adding that Tehran would continue to gradually abandon its nuclear commitments every 60 days.”

  3. Pakistan Denies Entry to US Journalist Who ‘Questioned Imran Khan’s Policies on Freedom of Press’ (sputniknews, Oct 18, 2019)
    https://sputniknews.com/asia/201910181077080148-pakistan-denies-entry-to-us-journalist-who-questioned-imran-khans-policies-on-freedom-of-press/

“In July, the Asia Programme Coordinator of the committee Steven Butler wrote an article about Prime Minister Imran Khan-led Pakistan Government’s “crackdown” on the press in the Washington Post.

Pakistan authorities have deported an American journalist to Washington after he arrived at Lahore Airport to represent the global press freedom group the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ).

Butler, the Asia Programme Coordinator for the global press freedom group, had plans to attend the Asma Jahangir Conference-Roadmap for Human Rights in Pakistan.

The group said that an immigration officer at Allama Iqbal International Airport in Lahore told Butler that his journalist’s visa is valid, but it was voided because his name was “on an Interior Ministry stop list “.

The committee added that the journalist’s passport was also confiscated at Lahore airport and he was forced onto a flight to Doha, Qatar. When he arrived in Doha, authorities there, placed him on a flight to Washington.

Demanding a “full explanation” about the incident and correcting “this error”, Joel Simon, the CPJ’s executive director has said: “If the government is interested in demonstrating its commitment to a free press, it should conduct a swift and transparent investigation into this case.”

The Pakistani government had no immediate comment.

Journalists and prominent people across the globe have questioned the attitude of the government and asked Prime Minister Khan to intervene in the incident.

“Anyone who ordered to stop entry of @StevenBButler and forced him to return to US is actually trying to tell the whole world that democracy in Pakistan is a fraud and all those who want to speak about #Press Freedom will not be tolerated-is this a new Pakistan of Imran Khan?” Pakistan’s prominent journalist Hamid Mir wrote on Twitter.

Amnesty International called the decision “an alarming sign that freedom of expression continues to be under attack” in Pakistan.

“Imran Khan boasts about the increased freedom of expression in Pakistan, and here Steven Butler of CPJ was denied entry to Pakistan despite a valid visa…These fascist acts bring a bad name to Pakistan not people like me,” Pakistan’s Human Right Activist Gulalai Ismail said.”

  5. Zlatan Ibrahimovic Under Fire for Sharing Islamist’s Post About ‘Scientific Racism’ (sputniknews, Oct 18, 2019)
    https://sputniknews.com/viral/201910181077079835-zlatan-ibrahimovic-under-fire-for-sharing-islamists-post-about-scientific-racism/

“The Swedish star striker, one of the most decorated footballers ever, has irked his local fans by sharing a post by a notorious Islamist who has previously refused to distance himself from Daesh*.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who has accused the Swedish media and Swedes in general of racism before, has sparked strong reactions with his protracted feud with the Swedish football team’s national team coach Janne Andersson.

In a recent interview with Expressen, Ibrahimovic attacked Andersson, claiming that he has destroyed everything he has built in 20 years and accusing him of deliberately leaving out players with a non-Swedish background, such as himself.

In support of his stance, Ibrahimovic retweeted a link to an Instagram post by notorious Islamist Rashid Musa, lauding it as a “good take”.

n his post, Rashid Musa accused coach Janne Andersson of excluding black- and brown-skinned players from team Sweden, which he called “structural racism”. Musa also attacked a number of journalists who came to Andersson’s defence and suggested that he has chosen players to can take a collective responsibility, work for the team and can take directives from the coach, by accusing them of determining the players’ qualities based on race and thereby applying “scientific racism”.

Rashid Musa is the chairman of Sweden’s Young Muslims (SUM). The organisation has previously been criticised for having links with the Muslim Brotherhood and regularly inviting anti-Semitic lecturers. In 2018, SUM lost state financing over its Islamist ties and had to pay back $1.37 million (roughly $140,000).

Rashid Musa has previously refused to distance himself from Daesh.

Perhaps ironically, in 2017 Rashid Musa led a seminar on Islamophobia organised by the Stockholm chapter of Swedish Social Democratic Youth League (SSU), where white people were barred from attending.

Ibrahimovic’s recent tweet didn’t go well with his Swedish fans.

“Look who you are linking to, Zlatan”, a user begged him.

“My king, if you are going to get involved in the Swedish debate, avoid from allying yourself with Rashid Musa, he is a terror apologist and is part of the Muslim Brotherhood”, another one implored.

Others suggested that even Zlatan had “no free pass” at doing so and that he just made “his first self-goal”.

“Meh. Just because Rashid did not want to distance himself from Daesh, remains an active Islamist in today’s Sweden, raises money through a bunch of associations with, according to the Swedish Tax Agency, undemocratic values, this does not mean that he is not a nice person. I believe the entire issue is Islamophobic, etc.” another one tweeted sarcastically.

“Seriously! You have 6,111,003 followers, and you give exposure to Islamist Rashid Musa who represents the Muslim Brotherhood and has previously refused to distance himself from Daesh. Sick how ill-informed you are”, another one tweeted…”

  6. Swedish Government in Hot Water Over New Bid to Weed Out ‘Islamophobia’ (Sweden Oct 18, 2019)
    https://sputniknews.com/europe/201910181077082904-swedish-government-in-hot-water-over-new-bid-to-weed-out-islamophobia/

“Critics of Sweden’s priority to stop ‘Islamophobia’ have suggested that the government inadvertently runs Islamists’ errands, effectively providing them with a shield from criticism.

As part of its commitment to combat ‘racism’, the Swedish government has commissioned the Crime Prevention Council (Brå) to conduct an in-depth study of so-called Islamophobic hate crimes.

The idea behind the effort is to “highlight the nature of Islamophobic hate crimes” in order to bolster the preventive work “against racism, especially Islamophobia”.

“We know that Muslims are exposed to threats and hatred in our society. It is important to increase the knowledge of Islamophobic hate crimes so that we can take powerful action. The expressions of racism have no place in our society,” Equality Minister Åsa Lindhagen of the Green Party said.

Sweden’s left-of-the-centre “red-green” government has made stopping the allegedly increasing threat of “radical nationalism” one of its priorities. According to the Security Police’s 2018 Yearbook, “xenophobic and nationalist ideas” are on the rise, contributing to a surge in hate crimes. The security of so-called “vulnerable groups”, such as Muslims, must therefore be prioritised, the government said. All in all, the government has allocated SEK 10 million (about $1 million) for anti-racist measures in 2020.

However, the government’s priorities have sparked criticism.

“Equality Minister Åsa Lindhagen runs Islamists’ errands as she orders Brå to do a study that legitimises the concept of Islamophobia. Being critical and disliking Islam can never be a phobia. Islamophobia is simply a made-up concept. The fact that our tax money goes to fanatics’ playhouse activities is scandalous,” Bassam Al-Baghdady, the chairman of the Centre for Secular Education, wrote in his opinion piece in the news outlet Nyheter Idag.
According to him, Brå has been tasked with “studying something that doesn’t exist” to prove it does.

“Calling disapproval of an idea ‘idea phobia’ is an scary attempt to stamp out critics of this idea – in this case Islam – as suffering from a mental illness,” Al-Baghdady wrote.

He stressed that blasphemy laws were abolished in 1949 in Sweden and suggested that it remain so.

“Islamists are the only ones who will leap for joy” over this definition of Islamophobia, journalist Madeleine Lilja Rönnquist wrote. “An arbitrary use of terms with such a weak definition is therefore only favourable to those who do not want to avoid criticism or scrutiny. For Islamists, the term effectively becomes a shield against all critical questioning,” she concluded.

Sweden has over 800,000 Muslims (about 8 percent of the country’s population) and has consistently ranked among the best countries for Muslims by Islamicity Foundation, a US-based non-profit organisation, topping all European nations in the recent edition and trailing only New Zealand.

Recently, a pro-Islam party was formed to secure Muslims’ status as an official minority.

In recent years, however, Sweden has been embroiled in a number of scandals involving radical Islam, involving, among others, Daesh* terrorists and extremist organisations such as the Muslim Brotherhood*.

    * Daesh (ISIS/ISIL/IS/Islamic State) and the Muslim Brotherhood are terrorist organisations banned in Russia and numerous other countries.”

  7. Sweden: Lay Judge Involved in ‘Sharia Values’ Case Convicted of Fraud (breitbart, Oct 18, 2019)
    https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2019/10/18/sweden-lay-judge-involved-sharia-values-case-convicted-of-fraud/

“A female Muslim lay judge involved in an infamous court case that controversially used Sharia law principles has been convicted of gross fraud over false employment reports.

Ebtisam Aldebe, a former politician in the Swedish Centre Party, was convicted of fraud after filing employment reports and compensation claims for a total just over 150,000 Swedish Krona/SEK (£11,945/$15,335) on 138 separate occasions, Mitt I reports.

As part of her sentencing, she is expected to pay 150,000 SEK to the Solna District court along with a further 6,000 in daily fines.

“It is obvious that the purpose of her actions has been to hide the fact that she did not have the income loss for which she claimed compensation,” the court said in its judgement.

Aldebe denied the crime, saying: “I’m innocent, absolutely.” The Muslim lay judge will be able to appeal the judgement up until the 5th of November.

The former Centre Party politician became a controversial figure last year after she, along with another lay judge, ruled that a Muslim man accused of beating his wife was innocent because he came from a better family than his spouse.

The judges also questioned why the woman had gone to the Swedish police first to resolve the matter, rather than to members of the Muslim community.

Former president of the Swedish Bar Association Bengt Ivarsson slammed the ruling at the time, saying: “This is one of the most prejudiced and strange judgements I have read. Not completely unexpectedly dictated by two lay judges. Still, no one in charge wants to do something about the lay judge system.”

Sharia courts do not currently exist in Sweden but do in other countries like the UK where journalist David Jones revealed last year that battered housewives often pay off Islamic clerics to allow them to divorce their abusive husbands.”

The world’s second-largest economy grows at its weakest pace in decades, blaming “complicated and severe economic conditions”.

China’s economic growth slowed to 6% year-on-year in the third quarter, amid a trade war with the US and fading demand at home and abroad.

This means the world’s second-largest economy grew at its weakest pace in at least 27 years and at a rate below the 6.2% growth seen in the second quarter.

    • Exclusive: Hong Kong Volunteers Document Extreme Police Brutality, Urge Journalists to Help

A Hong Kong group called Netizens Organizing Police Abuse Investigation Data (NOPAID) this week published an extensive report on the excessive use of force by police against protesters.

The report concluded that thorough reforms of the Hong Kong Police Force (HKPF) are needed, far beyond the sort of independent investigation long demanded by the protest movement.

NOPAID’s report began with a review of the statutory powers of the HKPF under Hong Kong’s “Basic Law” – the body of law that defines Hong Kong’s limited autonomy from China – and noted the agency which processes complaints against the police is not independent from the HKPF. Other agencies, such as the Hong Kong Office of the Ombudsman and the Independent Police Complaint Council, lack the powers needed to conduct thorough investigations.

  10. Lebanon paralyzed by nationwide protests over proposed taxes (abcnews, Oct 18. 2019)
    https://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/lebanon-protests-proposed-taxes-escalate-66364705

“Nationwide protests paralyzed Lebanon on Friday as demonstrators blocked major roads in a second day of rallies against the government’s handling of a severe economic crisis and the entire country’s political class.

The protests were the largest since 2015 and could further destabilize a country whose economy is already on the verge of collapse and with one of the highest debt loads in the world.

The protests could plunge Lebanon into a political crisis with unpredictable repercussions for the economy, which has been in steady decline for the past few years. Some of the protesters said they would stay in the streets until the government resigns.

Time and again, the protesters shouted “Revolution!” and “The people want to bring down the regime,” echoing a refrain chanted by demonstrators during Arab Spring uprisings that swept the region in 2011.

“We are here today to ask for our rights. The country is corrupt, the garbage is all over the streets and we are fed up with all this,” said Loris Obeid, a protester in downtown Beirut.

Schools, banks and businesses shut down as the protests escalated and widened in scope to reach almost every city and province. Hundreds of people burned tires on highways and intersections in suburbs of the capital, Beirut, and in northern and southern cities, sending up clouds of black smoke in scattered protests. The road to Beirut’s international airport was blocked by protesters, stranding passengers who in some cases were seen dragging suitcases on foot to reach the airport.

“We are here for the future of our kids. There’s no future for us, no jobs at all and this is not acceptable any more. We have shut up for a long time and now it is time to talk,” Obeid added.

The tension has been building for months, as the government searched for new ways to levy taxes to manage the country’s economic crisis and soaring debt.

The trigger, in the end, was the news Thursday that the government was planning, among other measures, to impose a tax on Whatsapp calls — a decision it later withdrew as people began taking to the streets.

In some cases the demonstrations evolved into riots, as protesters set fire to buildings and smashed window fronts, taking their anger out on politicians they accuse of corruption and decades of mismanagement.

Two Syrian workers died Thursday when they were trapped in a shop that was set on fire by rioters. Dozens of people were injured.

Some protesters threw stones, shoes and water bottles at security forces and scuffled with police. Security forces said at least 60 of its members were injured in the clashes. Protesters were also injured.

The government is discussing the 2020 budget, and new taxes have been proposed, including on tobacco, gasoline and some social media communication software such as WhatsApp.

Prime Minister Saad Hariri canceled a cabinet meeting scheduled for Friday to resume discussions. He was expected to address the nation later in the day.

Interior Minister Raya al-Hassan insisted Hariri would not resign, saying that could spark a national crisis more dangerous than the current economic crisis.

Years of regional turmoil — worsened by an influx of 1.5 million Syrian refugees since 2011 — are catching up with Lebanon. The small Arab country on the Mediterranean has the third-highest debt level in the world, currently standing at about $86 billion, or 150% of its gross domestic product.

International donors have been demanding that Lebanon implement economic changes in order to get loans and grants pledged at the CEDRE economic conference in Paris in April 2018. International donors pledged $11 billion for Lebanon but they sought to ensure the money is well spent in the corruption-plagued country.

Despite tens of billions of dollars spent since the 15-year civil war ended in 1990, Lebanon still has crumbling infrastructure including daily electricity cuts, trash piles in the streets and often sporadic, limited water supplies from the state-owned water company.”

  11. Surge of Mexican migrants is new challenge for Trump border crackdown

A sudden increase in the number of Mexican families and asylum seekers trying to cross into the United States has raised fears of a new border crisis, frustrating Department of Homeland Security officials who are unable to deter Mexican nationals with the same restrictive immigration policies designed to keep Central Americans out of the country.

Mexico surpassed Guatemala and Honduras in August to again become the single-largest source of unauthorized migration to the United States, according to administration officials who provided data on the Mexican migrants but were not authorized to speak about the situation publicly. In recent weeks, thousands of Mexican adults and children have been camping out in queues at U.S. border crossings, sleeping in tents while awaiting a chance to apply for safe refuge.

Most concerning to U.S. authorities is the percentage of Mexicans declaring a fear of persecution or harm, a claim that typically prevents their rapid deportation. Their requests for asylum are adding to the backlog of nearly one million pending cases in U.S. immigration courts, and by law, the United States must process their claims.

  12. The Mexican government captured El Chapo’s son — cartel gunmen forced his release

    MEXICO CITY —

Mexican security forces captured and then released one of country’s most powerful drug lords Thursday after apparently being overpowered by heavily armed combatants who laid siege to the northern Mexican city of Culiacan.

Security Minister Alfonso Durazo told Reuters that officials were trying to protect lives when they decided to free Ovidio Guzman Lopez, a leader of the powerful Sinaloa cartel and the son of notorious drug boss Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman.

Others speculated, however, that authorities may have colluded with gang members in Guzman’s release.

CULIACAN, Mexico (AP) — An intense gunfight with heavy weapons and burning vehicles blocking roads paralyzed the capital of Mexico’s Sinaloa state Thursday after security forces located one of Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán’s sons who is wanted in the U.S. on drug trafficking charges.

Mexican security secretary Alfonso Durazo said 30 members of the National Guard and army were patrolling in Culiacan when they were fired on from a house. They repelled the attack and inside the house found Ovidio Guzmán López.

The house was then surrounded by heavily armed gunmen who had “a greater force” and authorities decided to suspend the operation, Durazo said. He did not say if Ovidio Guzmán had been arrested or went free.

“With the goal of safeguarding the well-being and tranquility of Culiacan society, officials in the security cabinet decided to suspend the actions,” said Durazo.

José Luis González Meza, a lawyer for “El Chapo’s” family, told The Associated Press that Guzmán’s family has said “Ovidio is alive and free” but that he had no more details about what had happened.

Ovidio was not one of the jailed Mexican drug lord’s best-known sons – Iván Archivaldo Guzmán and Jesús Alfredo Guzmán are known as “los Chapitos,” or “the little Chapos,” and are believed to currently run their father’s Sinaloa Cartel together with Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada.

But Ovidio Guzmán was indicted in 2018 by a grand jury in Washington, along with a fourth brother, for the alleged trafficking of cocaine, methamphetamine and marijuana.

Following Thursday’s localization of Ovidio Guzmán, Culiacan exploded in violence with armed civilians in trucks roaring through the city’s center shooting what appeared to be .50-caliber sniper rifles and machine guns.

Videos published on social media showed a scene resembling a war zone, with gunmen, some wearing black ski masks over their faces, riding in the back of trucks firing mounted machine guns as vehicles burned. People could be seen running for cover as machinegun fire rattled around them. Drivers drove in reverse frantically to get away from the clashes.

Hong Kong has been relatively calm for the past week, with only small, often colorful demonstrations, and Sunday’s march will test the strength of the pro-democracy campaign, which has in the past rallied millions onto the streets.

  15. FCC’s Ajit Pai issues ominous warning, says China’s reaction to NBA fracas only tip of the iceberg
By Daily Caller News Foundation October 17, 2019

Federal Communications Commission Chairman Ajit Pai said Wednesday that China’s belligerent reaction to a seemingly insignificant tweet about Hong Kong protesters is a precursor of things to come.

If China is willing to turn up the heat when an NBA team’s general manager sends a tweet supporting Hong Kong, Pai said in a tweet, then what will the country do when the stakes are higher? He suggested China will likely go much further if it wiggles its way into the country’s telecom system.

“If this is how China is willing to use its leverage over basketball, e-sports, and flag emojis, imagine what could happen if we let Chinese companies’ equipment into America’s #5G networks,” the FCC chairman wrote. He included a hashtag referencing fifth generation mobile service, which tech experts believe will usher in a revolution in telecommunications.

  16. U.S. Special Operations Secrets Could Fall into Hands of Russians and Syrians

For nearly five years American commandos have served beside Kurdish-led forces as they battled ISIS across northern Syria.

Now Kurdish fighters in Syria are embracing Russia and Syrian regime forces for help against the Turkish incursion.

This may prove to be an intelligence bonanza for Russia and Syria since the Kurdish fighters spent years working alongside Americans, learning their tactics, techniques, procedures, equipment, and intelligence gathering methods.

A former U.S. military intelligence operator, who spent years working with special operations forces, said the potential spillover of sensitive tradecraft or information was “super problematic.”

    • Most of what they are worried about has already been deduced from the battlefield actions of the Kurds. The rest was probably sold by some Kurd who needed money.

  17. STATEMENT FROM BARRY LEGG – CHAIRMAN OF THE BRUGES GROUP – ON THE WITHDRAWAL AGREEMENT
The Bruges Group has always put the highest priority in maintaining the integrity of the United Kingdom. This agreement provides for a different status for Northern Ireland and therefore has the potential to lead to the break up of the whole of the United Kingdom. The UK must leave the European Union as one entity. The agreement also binds the United Kingdom to EU Regulations in any future trade agreement with the EU which would severely damage our prospects of signing free trade agreements with other countries. The agreement still includes an unjustified £39bn charge on UK tax payers. We reject this punishment levy. This sum is equivalent to nearly a quarter of the entire revenue raised from income tax this year. This money would be better used in boosting our economy by cutting the taxes of hard working people and/or giving an immediate boost to some of our hard pressed public services. We urge Members of Parliament who wish to honour the result of the Referendum to reject this defective agreement if it is put before them. Barry Legg

THE REVISED WITHDRAWAL AGREEMENT AND POLITICAL DECLARATION: A BRIEFING NOTE
So far as we are aware the only material changes in the Withdrawal Agreement (Treaty) are to the NI Protocol, which means that the critical ECJ oversight and Art 184 link to the Political Declaration remain. I am told by UKREP that there are two changes to other Articles in the Treaty but they were unable to tell us which ones.
    EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The Treaty permanently restricts our military independence, demands payment of an unspecified sum, prevents independent arbitration, grants EU officials immunity from UK laws, leaves us with EIB contingent liabilities running into tens if not hundreds of billions and will impose punitive laws on the UK during a transition which is likely to be extended until mid 2022 (just a few months before the next General Election).
The Political Declaration is such that a future FTA with the EU is made unpalatable because it will restrict our foreign policy and military independence as well as policies in trade, tax, fishing, environment, social and employment, competition and state aid. Free movement is replaced with vague notions of “mobility” and “non discrimination”.
SPECIFIC PROVISIONS IN WHICH THE WITHDRAWAL TREATY:-
    1.Restricts Parliamentary independence
    2. Restricts independent trade policy
    3. Prevents an independent tax policy
    4. Controls Fishing
    5. and 6. Prevents independent military action
    7. Restricts Foreign Policy
    8. Demands Payment of a sum to be decided by the EU
    9. Replaces one Commission with another
    10. Prevents independent arbitration
    11. Grants EU officials immunity
    12. Imposes a gagging order on the UK
    13. Leaves the UK with EIB risks but no profits
    14. Imposes EU public procurement rules
    15. Makes the UK a bystander in laws that govern it
The UK is permitted to send a civil servant to Brussels to observe the EU passing laws designed to disadvantage our economy during the transition (which might last many years) (Article 34). For example, the EU is discussing regulating London’s huge Foreign Exchange Markets and also imposing a financial transaction tax that would be collected at our expense by HMRC but sent to foreign governments. EU DEFENCE UNION: WHO IS REALLY STEERING UK GOVERNMENT POLICY
There clearly is a [British civil service] position, but he [Ben Wallace MP] doesn’t know what the position is. This was a simple and astute observation from which a number of conclusions might arise. Mr Wallace had not been made aware of the Civil Service position, or perhaps he lacked the mental acumen to recognise and understand the Civil Service position, or perhaps he had turned a blind eye to that position. However we look at it, the implications of a Defence Secretary not understanding the UK’s military position within the EU, and most importantly EU Defence Union, whilst a Brexit withdrawal agreement is being formed is astoundingly incompetent, and thus dangerous for the nation’s defence and security. Who comprises the UK’s EU Defence Union team? We simply don’t know. Neither do we know where their true allegiances lie in respect of the EU project. And that secrecy and uncertainty just reinforces our initial headline question … EU Defence Union: Who’s really steering UK Government policy?

  18. Jonathan Spyer
The End of Kurdish Autonomy in Syria?

In the early years of the revolt against his regime, Assad was desperately short of loyal manpower and unilaterally withdrew his forces from Syria’s northeast in June-July 2012. The Kurds had to fight for their lives from the beginning as the jihadists of Jabhat al-Nusra attempted to wipe them out.

Islamic State then sought to destroy the Kurdish enclave of Rojava in mid-2014. The jihadi forces swallowed up village after village as they headed toward the town of Kobani. Just a few hundred YPG fighters remained in the town, prepared to fight the jihadists to the death. But ISIS never took Kobani. A new partnership with U.S. air power, the artillery of Masoud Barzani’s Peshmerga from Kurdistan in Iraq, and the grit, courage and self-sacrifice of the YPG stopped them. It took another four years of fighting and 11,000 dead from the ranks of the YPG and its allies (now the SDF) to destroy the ISIS caliphate.

I worked a lot in the SDF areas during this campaign and remember the faces and the names of many friends and acquaintances killed in those years. The Kurdish fighters maintained an odd sort of fatalism. If you were there, it was reasoned, you were ready to die and willing for it.

After the caliphate was destroyed, the most common predictions were that the Americans would leave at some point, given the limited nature of their commitment. If that happened, there would be a need for a rapid deal with the Syrian regime to prevent a Turkish/Sunni Islamist rampage.

In ‘Cave-in,’ Trump Cease-Fire Cements Turkey’s Gains in Syria

The agreement, announced by Vice President Mike Pence, may stop the killing in the Kurdish enclave in northern Syria. But the cost to American influence is expected to be high.

WASHINGTON — The cease-fire agreement reached with Turkey by Vice President Mike Pence amounts to a near-total victory for Turkey’s president, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who gains territory, pays little in penalties and appears to have outmaneuvered President Trump.

The best that can be said for the agreement is that it may stop the killing in the Kurdish enclave in northern Syria. But the cost for Kurds, longtime American allies in the fight against the Islamic State, is severe: Even Pentagon officials were mystified about where tens of thousands of displaced Kurds would go, as they moved south from the Turkey-Syria border as required by the deal — if they agree to go at all.

  20. Hibtz-ut-Tharir was formed in Jerusalem (al-Quds) in 1952 as a spin-off of the Muslim Brotherhood hoods. The group calls for Muslims not to vote —hmm, well it might be OK to vote for a Muslim—advocates the execution of anyone who leaves Islam and supports global caliphate. The group says jihad is the duty that should be commenced even if the enemy does not attack. Canadian soldiers are called war criminals and Muslims should only vote for leaders who support Shari’ah Law.

Hibtz represents what might be the Canada’s smallest yet quickly growing Islamist group. It is small, but advocates an Islamic caliphate which would dominate all other religions and political systems. It’s followers are told they must be loyal to the Ummah and caliphate and NOT THEIR HOST COUNTRY.

Mazin Abdul-Adhim the perceived leading Imam of Hibtz ut-Tharir, owner of Bismillah Meats, in London, Ontario, Canada, advocates that it is time to move from Dawah toward the stage of action which calls for the overthrow of corrupt regimes. Democracy is is not permitted because man is the legislator. DEMOCRACY IS NOT PERMITTED, sounds like sedition to me. Why has he not been arrested. HATE SPEECH is alive and well in Canada, by the Muslim leaders. All the Liberals and All the NDP voted in favour of M-103, they should demand he be deported. He is a traitor.

  21. Elizabeth Warren Proves She Can’t Be Trusted on Big Tech

It’s all about censoring President Trump and conservatives.

Facebook boasts 2.37 billion active users and controls 85% of social traffic. There’s every reason to fear it and a growing bipartisan consensus about the need to tackle it and Google with anti-trust laws.

But lefties and conservatives want very different things from Facebook.

Nothing shows that better than Senator Elizabeth Warren’s pressure campaign to get Facebook to censor President Trump’s campaign ads. Warren’s latest stunt is an ad accusing Facebook of helping “elect Donald Trump once” and CEO Mark Zuckerberg of giving Trump “free rein to lie on his platform.”

Warren claims to fear Facebook and yet she also wants to put it in charge of presidential campaign ads.

  22. Socialist Tyranny, Genocidal Muslim Tyranny, Slave State and Libya Win UN Human Rights Council Seats

Will the last man in Turtle Bay please turn out the lights?

Venezuela, Poland and Sudan amongst 14 new Human Rights Council members

I like how the UN’s own house news headlines the fact that Venezuela, a brutal socialist dictatorship full of starving people, worthless money and whose people are fleeing by the millions, has been elected to the UN Human Rights Council.

And then there’s Sudan, which is responsible for actual genocide.

Africa had four seats up for grabs, and four candidates, who were duly elected: Libya, Mauritania, Namibia and Sudan

As Hillel Neuer of UN Watch has pointed out, Mauritania has sizable numbers of slaves.

The UN has a slave state, a genocidal Muslim tyranny, and a murderous socialist tyranny on its Human Rights Council. And the only qualification for a seat is who kills and oppresses the most people, and violates the most human rights.

UN Watch is calling for a campaign to remove Venezuela. But the next review will inevitably condemn the human rights violations of America and Israel, while praising Venezuela for its commitment to social justice.

  23. An Open Letter to Sergey Brin, Co-Founder of Google

How could the company founded by a man whose parents fled the Soviet Union suppress speech?
    October 18, 2019
    Dennis Prager

Dear Mr. Brin: Fifty years ago this week, when I was a 21-year-old college senior, I was in the Soviet Union, sent by the government of Israel to smuggle in Jewish religious items and smuggle out names of Jews who wanted to escape the Soviet Union and could then be issued a formal invitation to Israel.

I was chosen because I was a committed Jew and because I knew Hebrew and Russian. I was no hero, but the trip did entail risk. The Soviets did not appreciate people smuggling out names of Soviet citizens who sought to emigrate, information the Israeli government and activist groups in America used to advocate on their behalf.

My four weeks in the USSR were, of course, life-changing. This young American, lucky beyond belief to have spent his entire life in the freest country in the world, experienced what it was like to live in a totalitarian police state. People feared merely being seen speaking with a Westerner, lest the KGB arrest and interrogate them. People arranged to meet me at a certain tree in a certain park and only spoke to me while walking to avoid eavesdroppers. I met with Jewish engineers, doctors and professors who could find no work because they were known to the government to be “otkazniki,” or “refuseniks” — Jews who had applied for exit visas to leave the Soviet Union and been refused permission. I’m sure you know of them from your parents.

McRaven, a Hillary Clinton loyalist, called for a military coup of the president of the United States.

  25. Who Gets Blamed if ISIS Fighters Come Back?

    by Con Coughlin
    October 18, 2019 at 5:00 am

Ever since the US-led coalition succeeded in destroying most of ISIS in Syria, one vital issue has left been unresolved, namely: what to do with the thousands of ISIS fighters who were taken prisoner and confined to Kurdish-run detention centres.

The problem is particularly acute with regard to the estimated 2,500 foreign fighters — the majority of them holding European passports — and their dependents who abandoned their home countries for fight for ISIS.

Given the depth of their betrayal — turning their backs on nations where they have been raised and nurtured to join the barbarians of ISIS — it is quite understandable that Western governments should recoil in horror when defeated ISIS fighters and their associates then announce they want to return home.

In Britain, for example, there was much controversy earlier in the year concerning the case of Shamima Begum who, as a 15-year-old teenager, left her home in east London in 2015 to become the bride of an ISIS fighter.

Earlier this year, she resurfaced, languishing in a Kurdish-run camp, from where she made an impassioned call to be allowed to return home, even though, during her absence, the British government had already cancelled her British citizenship. Her request received short shrift from London, which insisted she had lost her right to be a British citizen by dint of her decision to join a banned terrorist organisation, one of whose prime objectives is to carry out terrorist attacks against British targets.

  26. Tensions in Paris No-Go Suburbs After Migrant Punches Two-Year-Old (breitbart, Oct 18, 2019)
    https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2019/10/18/tensions-in-paris-no-go-suburbs-after-migrant-punches-2-year-old/

“Tensions between locals and migrants erupted this week in the northern Paris suburb of Saint-Denis after a migrant punched a two-year-old in the head.

The attack took place on the President-Wilson avenue near a migrant camp at around 5:30 pm. A migrant randomly approached a woman and her two-year-old son and punch the child in the head outside of a Franprix grocery shop, Le Parisien reports.

As the woman, named Sandy, demanded an explanation from the migrant, she, too, was also punched in the face, bruising her cheekbone.

Sandy claimed that the man who attacked her son had come from a nearby migrant camp and said that while the toddler received a lump on his forehead and required a hospital visit, his injuries were not serious.

The migrant attacker, however, was nearly lynched by locals who attacked him and left him bleeding, according to the young mother. A dozen locals later took to the streets near the migrant camp to protest the attack…”

  27. Political Islam Is Declining in the Middle East

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: The lack of a reaction to the death of former Egyptian president Muhammad Morsi and the absence of religious demands by protesters in Algeria, Sudan, and Iraq suggest that political Islam is waning after the defeat of ISIS three years ago.

Few live images were more dramatic than the collapse and death of former Egyptian president Muhammad Morsi, the first-ever Muslim Brotherhood head of state, in a transparent glass cage on June 17, 2019 during his seemingly never-ending trial proceedings in Cairo.

No one outside Egyptian officialdom questioned the severe conditions of Morsi’s incarceration since the day special forces surrounded the presidential home and placed him under arrest in July 2013, paving the way for his minister of defense, Abdel Fatah Sisi, to rise to the presidency in his stead.

For all the human drama of Morsi’s death, it prompted barely a whisper among the Egyptian public. It elicited protests by hapless exiled Muslim Brotherhood leaders, a predictable tirade by Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdo?an, and some ineffective criticism from Qatar’s al-Jazeera, which shares Erdo?an’s antipathy to Sisi and sympathy for the Brotherhood.

  28. Afghan Arrested After Asylum Centre Social Worker, Farmer Murdered in Knife Attack (breitbart, Oct 18, 2019)
    https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2019/10/18/afghan-arrested-after-asylum-centre-social-worker-farmer-murdered-in-knife-attack/

“Austrian police say a 32-year-old social worker has died days after suffering serious stab wounds during an attack at a refugee shelter.

Upper Austria police said Friday that a 33-year-old Afghan asylum-seeker is now being investigated on suspicion of two counts of murder.

The suspect, whose name wasn’t released, attacked the social worker with a knife Monday during a dispute over a job at the shelter in Wullowitz, near the Czech border.

Several asylum-seekers came to the social worker’s aid and two suffered serious injuries.

After fleeing, the suspect allegedly killed a 63-year-old farmer and stole his car before being arrested in the nearby city of Linz.

Authorities have said the suspect arrived in Austria in 2015 and an appeal against the rejection of his asylum request is pending.”

  29. Suspected Islamic Radical Detained Over ‘9/11-Style’ Terror Plot (breitbart, Oct 18. 2019)
    https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2019/10/18/suspected-islamic-radical-detained-over-9-11-style-terror-plot/

“A young man flagged for Islamic radicalism is in French custody on preliminary terrorism charges after threatening a Sept. 11-style plane hijacking and attack, authorities said Friday.

Interior Minister Christophe Castaner said the man’s arrest late last month marked the 60th time that French authorities have thwarted a potential attack since 2013.

“An individual who was inspired by the Sept. 11, 2001 attack and planes that destroyed the towers of the World Trade Center was detained by our services,” Castaner said on France-2 television Thursday night.

Castaner said the person was “in the process of planning” an attack and seeking to procure weapons.

A French security official said that the planning was in the early stages, but the DGSI intelligence service decided to move in and arrest the man Sept. 26 because he had started a hunt for weapons.

The man is a French resident in his 20s and had been identified by the DGSI as expressing Islamic radical views, the official said.

Investigators are looking into whether he might have had accomplices. It was not known whether he had expressed allegiance to any extremist group, said the official, who was not authorized to be publicly named.

No other details were immediately made public.

Castaner’s surprise announcement came as the French security apparatus is under fire after a deadly attack inside Paris police headquarters.

A long-time police administrator stabbed four colleagues to death on Oct. 3 in an incident prosecutors consider a possible terrorist attack. The attacker was killed by police.

He had become radicalized, and France’s counterterrorism prosecutor said he had likely been in contact with members of an ultra-conservative Islamic movement.

France remains on alert after a string of deadly Islamic State attacks in 2015 and 2016 that heightened the country’s security posture at home and abroad.”

  30. Denmark Prepared To Build Wall on German Border During Migrant Crisis (breitbart, Oct 18, 2019)
    https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2019/10/18/denmark-prepared-to-build-wall-on-german-border-during-migrant-crisis/

“Newly released documents claim that the Danish government was prepared to build a wall on its southern border with Germany during the height of the 2015 migrant crisis.

The documents claim that the government was fully prepared to build a 33-kilometre long wall across the border and had already spent nearly 22 million Danish Krone (£2.5m/$3.2m) on materials to build the structure, Danish newspaper Berlingske reports.

Minister of Justice Nick Hekkerup revealed the plan to the Danish parliament showing that the Ministry of Defense’s Material and Purchasing Board had purchased 37,500 barbed spirals, 37,000 barbed wire posts, 35,000 barbed wire pick along with equipment such as gloves and scissors to build the barbed wire fences.

According to Hekkerup, 90 percent of the materials purchased by the Ministry of Defence were not used and remain in storage after the ministry determined in June of 2017 that it would not require it.

Søren Pind, who served as Danish Justice Minister during the migrant crisis, originally talked about the proposed border fence in his book “Free Words” released last month.

“In the government, there were discussions about building a barbed wire and concrete wall at the border with Germany. Very precise plans were drawn up,” he wrote in the book and added, “It turned out that we did not have enough resources and that materials and items to make such a violent decision were not part of our emergency stocks at all.”

He later told Danish media that the government created the plans because they were afraid that Europe could “collapse” under the weight of the migrant crisis.

While no wall was built on the German border, controls were introduced in January of 2016 by then-Prime Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen.

Denmark has also strengthened its northern border with Sweden this month due to a surge in gang violence in Sweden that has spilt over into Denmark with the bombing of a tax office in Copenhagen earlier this year.”

According to a leak to The New York Times, President Trump “pushed” the Australian Prime Minister during a recent phone call in September to help AG Barr gather information that could potentially discredit Robert Mueller’s Russia probe.

The New York Times went on to say, “[T]he discussion with Prime Minister Scott Morrison of Australia shows the extent to which Mr. Trump sees the attorney general as a critical partner in his goal to show that the Mueller investigation had corrupt and partisan origins, and the extent that Mr. Trump sees the Justice Department inquiry as a potential way to gain leverage over America’s closest allies.”
