Ukraine’s top prosecutor said Friday that his office is “conducting an audit” of cases that have been previously investigated and closed, including the probe involving the energy giant Burisma, where Hunter Biden had served on the board.
Ruslan Ryaboshapka, the country’s prosecutor general, said at a news conference that his office was instructed to review cases that have been closed, fragmented or investigated to make sure they were fairly and thoroughly handled. He said no one attempted to influence him to make the call.
“We are now reviewing all the cases which were closed, fragmented or investigated earlier in order to make a decision on cases where illegal procedural decisions were taken,” he said.
The office plans to review 15 cases that previously were closed, including the Burisma case. This does not yet mean Ukraine is opening a new investigation involving Burisma or the Bidens.
His comment came as the Trump White House fights an impeachment inquiry that involves allegations that President Trump used military funding as part of a “quid pro quo” with Kiev to investigate Biden and his father, former Vice President Joe Biden.
Trump has denied wrongdoing. Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky, who participated in a scrutinized phone call with Trump in July, said he never felt pressure from Trump.
Trump’s key focus has been how Hunter Biden, who reportedly knew little about the energy business and the country, ended up on Burisma’s board while his father was vice president under Barack Obama. The elder Biden later pressured Ukraine to oust a prosecutor who had been looking into the company’s founder, though Biden allies say this intervention was driven by corruption concerns.
t is unclear how much money Hunter Biden made while serving on the board of the firm, but reports have estimated he made up to $50,000 per month — which would be up to $600,000 a year.
Fox News has also obtained notes from an interview Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani conducted—with Yuriy Lutsenko, the former Ukrainian prosecutor who replaced Shokin and eventually closed the Burisma probe. He said he “believes Hunter Biden receives millions of dollars in compensation from Burisma,” according to the notes.
Fox News reported Wednesday on notes from another interview Giuliani conducted with Viktor Shokin, the prosecutor Biden helped oust, in which he claimed he was told by former U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine Geoffrey R. Pyatt to back off the Burisma probe. According to interview notes, Shokin claimed Pyatt – currently the ambassador to Greece – told him to handle that investigation “with white gloves.”
Biden has acknowledged on camera that when he was vice president he successfully pressured Ukraine to fire Shokin.
The vice president threatened to withhold $1 billion in critical U.S. aid if Shokin was not fired.
“Well, son of a b—h, he got fired,” Biden joked at a panel two years after leaving office.
But Biden’s campaign and congressional Democrats reject Giuliani’s allegations and suggestions that his intervention was tied to his son’s work, maintaining that Biden was only involved due to corruption concerns surrounding Shokin and casting Giuliani’s claims as “debunked conspiracy theories.”
Ryaboshapka is considered a reformer and “the father of the anti-corruption strategy in Ukraine,” a former associate told the Washington Post. Another peer called him an “honest person” but expressed doubts that he has the ability to weed out corruption in the country.

PORT JEFFERSON, Long Island (WABC) — Police are investigating after a man with a samurai sword was shot and killed in a liquor store on Long Island Thursday.
The incident was reported at Port Jeff Liquors in the 150 block of East Main Street just after 2 p.m.
Police say 50-year-old Theodore Scoville walked into the store swinging dangerously close to the owner with a two-foot blade, and the owner shot him.
Scoville was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police say surveillance video matches what the store owner told them.
“He had a sword beneath a poncho, it seems to be without saying a word, he pulled the sword out, swung it three times — at least three times — at a very close distance to the person behind the counter,” said Lt. Det. Kevin Beyrer with the Suffolk County police.
Officials said the incident does not appear to be a robbery attempt and the store owner’s gun was legal. He is not expected to be charged.
The incident is under investigation.

FORT DODGE, Iowa (AP) — A central Iowa pastor who also served as a chaplain to area first responders was robbed and beaten to death outside of his church, authorities said.
Officers sent to St. Paul Lutheran Church in Fort Dodge on Wednesday evening found the Rev. Allen Henderson lying unresponsive outside of the building, police said in a news release. Henderson was pronounced dead at a local hospital of injuries consistent with an assault.
Police later arrested Joshua Pendleton, 36, and charged him with robbery and first-degree murder. He remained jailed on Thursday, and online court records don’t list an attorney for him yet. The records do show that he was previously convicted of disorderly conduct, assaulting a jailer and other crimes.

Paralysed man walks again with brain-controlled exoskeleton
LONDON, Oct 3 (Reuters) – A man paralysed from the shoulders down has been able to walk using a pioneering four-limb robotic system, or exoskeleton, that is commanded and controlled by signals from his brain.
With a ceiling-mounted harness for balance, the 28-year-old tetraplegic patient used a system of sensors implanted near his brain to send messages to move all four of his paralysed limbs after a two-year-long trial of the whole-body exoskeleton.
The results, published in The Lancet Neurology journal on Thursday, bring doctors a step closer to one day being able to help paralysed patients drive computers using brain signals alone, according to researchers who led the work.
But for now the exoskeleton is purely an experimental prototype and is “far from clinical application”, they added.
“(This) is the first semi-invasive wireless brain-computer system designed… to activate all four limbs,” said Alim-Louis Benabid, a neurosurgeon and professor at the University of Grenoble, France, who co-led the trial.

France: Jeff Koons unveils sculpture for Paris terror attack victims
American artist Jeff Koons unveiled his sculpture titled ‘Bouquet of Tulips’ honouring the victims of the 2015 Paris terror attacks in the French capital on Friday.
“‘Bouquet of Tulips’ is a symbol of offering which is represented by the outstretched hand holding the colourful bouquet of inflatable flowers. The bouquet is comprised of only eleven flowers, the missing twelfth will always represent the loss that occurred from the attacks,” Koons said at ceremony marking the occasion.
The sculpture depicts an outstretched hand holding eleven inflatable flowers in reference to the Statue of Liberty’s torch-bearing stance. It stands at 12.6-metres (41-ft) tall and will remain permanently installed in the gardens of the Petit Palais gallery.
The proceeds of the sculpture’s copyright were waived by the artist and will instead be donated to associations representing terror victims and the city of Paris.
The project was not without controversy. The sculpture’s original location – in front of the Palais of Tokyo and the Paris Museum of Modern Art – had to be changed following an outcry from France’s art world.

“We have obtained bulletproof vests to wear before, so today we hope that the march will bear some fruit. We do not ask for the moon — just to be able to do our job in decent conditions. Both for us and to better protect the population,” another officer said.
Matthieu Anaclet from Alternative Police Union CFDT also commented on the weekly Gilets Jaunes (Yellow Vest) protests saying it left many officers drained.
Eric Drouet, one of the Yellow Vest leaders, attended the march. He attempted to speak with officers while Yellow Vests held photographs of the many brutal injuries of the movement’s members.
A police officer reacted to the presence of the Yellow Vests, shouting: “The Republic, it lives thanks to us; you are nothing without us.” Police arrested Drouet in January after he organised a protest in Paris without prior notification.”

White House economist Larry Kudlow joined Stuart Varney on Varney and Co. following the release of the monthly unemployment numbers.
Larry Kudlow told Stuart that President Trump is doing “the Lord’s work” in confronting China on their abusive trade practices.
China has been abusing American companies for years and stealing US technology and manufacturing jobs. Donald Trump is the first president to take China on. No one else had the courage to attempt a confrontation with the Chinese Communist government.
