“An ex-Marine hired by a Qatari Sheikh as his head of security has accused the billionaire playboy of ordering him to kill two people in California.
Matthew Pittard says he worked for Sheikh Khalid bin Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani for 10 months between 2017 and 2018, during which time he was told to kill a man who tried to collect a debt from the royal, and a woman who he became jealous over.
Pittard is now suing the Sheikh, who is the brother of Qatar’s ruler, along with Matthew Allende who was employed as the Qatari’s medic around the same time.
Allende says he was often asked to stay up for 36 hours straight with the prince while he partied, was effectively held hostage, and injured himself trying to escape.
The pair are asking for a total of $34million in unpaid wages and overtime, unfair dismissal, personal injury and other malpractice.
Pittard says he first worked for the Sheikh as a defence contractor to one of his companies in Qatar by training soldiers and police officers.
In September 2017 he says the royal recruited him as head of security in the US, and senior defence consultant in Qatar.
His job involved guarding the Sheikh and his entourage wherever they travelled, which was primarily in the US, Qatar and London.
Speaking to ABC Action News, Pittard said that in the same month he got the job, Sheikh Khalid asked him to kill a man who had come to collect an alleged $6,000 debt.
Pittard says he refused and paid off the debt himself. Asked whether the Sheikh could have been joking, he responded ‘absolutely not’.
Then, in November the same year, Pittard claims the Sheikh ordered him to kill a woman because he believed she had been texting a man from another Middle Eastern country.
He claimed he was asked to shoot her twice in the head ‘Mafia-style’ and bury her in the desert.
‘At that point, I got up and said, ‘Don’t ever ask me to do that again,” said Pittard.
Then, in July the following year and while working in Qatar, Pittard said he learned that Sheikh Khalid was keeping an American citizen against their will at one of his properties.
He claims the Sheikh had the American locked up in jail, but he was able to help the escape along with staff from the US embassy.
When Khalid found out, he claims the royal held him prisoner, threatened to kill him and his family, then forced him to sign a non-disclosure agreement while brandishing a Glock pistol.
Meanwhile Allende, who worked for Sheikh Khalid from October 2017 to February 2018, says he was routinely asked to work for 24 or 36 hours straight during wild parties to ‘keep him breathing’.
In his interview with ABC, Pittard said he was once forced to administer Narcan – a drug commonly used to treat heroin overdoses – to the Sheikh after he collapsed during one party.
Allende said that after three weeks of non-stop work and a 36-hour straight shift at the prince’s Majhils residence in Qatar, he asked for and was given a day off.
However, when he went to leave the compound a guard with a gun stopped him and said the prince had changed his mind.
He was ordered to go back inside, but instead chose to scale an 18ft perimeter wall in fear for his life.
Allende said he jumped down from the top of the wall but felt the bones in his foot snap and required immediate medical attention.
He was kept in Qatar for the next two months before being allowed to fly back to the US once he had healed.
This is not the first time the Sheikh has been in trouble in the US. In 2015 he was forced to flee the country after getting caught speeding and skipping stop signs in Beverly Hills in a bright yellow Ferrari.
He allegedly threatened to kill a cameraman who filmed the incident, then claimed diplomatic immunity when police were called.
He also told officers that he wasn’t behind the wheel of either car, before leaving the country along with the two vehicles.
Khalid also drives cars as a racing driver in Qatar, where he is known as the ‘patron sheikh’ of drag-racing.
He has worked to introduce the races to his home country, while also investing more than $10million in the sport.
ABC was unable to reach the Qatari embassy in the US for comment, and attempts by Mail Online to reach the prince’s companies were also unsuccessful.”

“The hulking Greek coastguard officer gazed intently as another group of migrants, the fifth of the day, boarded a minibus after landing on a beach on the island of Lesbos.
“We’re taking it day by day,” he sighed, amid talk of a new refugee crisis, four years after nearly one million asylum seekers arrived on Europe’s doorstep, sparking EU-wide panic.
The UN refugee agency (UNHCR) announced on Tuesday that arrivals by sea from Turkey to Greece, mostly Afghan and Syrian families, increased to 10,258 in September.
It said this was the highest monthly total of migrants since 2016, when the EU reached an accord with Turkey to stem the flow of arrivals.
The surge has left an already overburdened Greek asylum camp network — which the UN terms “inhumane” — struggling to cope.
“In the last couple of months (there has been) an incredible contrast… a huge increase, quite sudden,” said Patrick Foley, emergency response coordinator for the Swedish NGO Lighthouse Relief that operates in the north of Lesbos, where most asylum seekers land.
“Each month is typically more than the month of the previous year”.
In May, the NGO was helping around 70 people land safely on Lesbos beaches and giving them temporary shelter.
– ‘Unpredictable’ –
This climbed to over 2,800 in September after similar numbers in August, Foley said.
“It’s really unpredictable. It could literally overnight just go back to normal again and it could be a short trend, or it could be a continued increase,” he said.
Greek islands opposite Turkey now host more than 26,000 asylum seekers in camps built to handle just a fraction of these numbers.
In addition to poor hygiene and frequent outbreaks of violence, many of the residents sleep in tents and complain of having to queue for hours to obtain food, take a shower or use a toilet.
“Keeping people on the islands in these inadequate and insecure conditions is inhumane and must come to an end,” the UNHCR said Tuesday.
On Sunday, a fire killed a woman in the Lesbos camp of Moria, sparking brief rioting between asylum-seekers and police.
“We urge the Greek authorities to fast-track plans to transfer over 5,000 asylum seekers already authorised to continue their asylum procedure on the mainland,” the UNHCR said in a statement.
“In parallel, new accommodation places must be provided to prevent pressure from the islands spilling over into mainland Greece, where most sites are operating at capacity.”
EU Migration Commissioner Dimitris Avramopoulos is set to visit Greece and Turkey this week with the foreign ministers of Germany and France to discuss the situation.
Greece’s minister for migration also travels to Ankara on Wednesday for talks with the Turkish interior minister.
Many in Greece say Turkey is not doing enough to keep its end of the bargain in thwarting attempts to cross the Aegean Sea, which result in hundreds of deaths annually.
But according to Foley, it appears that fear of arrest in Turkey spurs many migrants — Afghans in particular — to head to Greece as fast as possible.
“A lot of people coming from Afghanistan (spend just) a couple of weeks in Turkey and then make the crossing. A lot of people are becoming afraid of deportation from Turkey,” he told AFP.
Foley notes that migrants and refugees are “somewhat” aware of the grim conditions that await them in Greek camps even before attempting the perilous crossing.
– Tougher stance –
“(But they) believe things can’t get worse than the situation that they’re already in.”
The new conservative Greek government, elected in July, has vowed to take a tougher stance on migration.
It plans to return to Turkey 10,000 migrants who fail asylum requirements by the end of 2020.
There are also promises to relocate hundreds of refugees to camps on the Greek mainland.
But in four and a half years under the previous left-wing Greek government, Turkey took back fewer than 2,000 people.
And at the current rate of arrivals, any de-escalation in camp numbers will be rapidly neutralised by new arrivals.
Two more boats arrived on Wednesday morning, raising the combined total to around 300, Foley said.”

Jawad Hajri, the provincial governor’s spokesman, says Wednesday that over the last three days there have been sporadic gun battles between Afghan forces and Taliban around Taluqan.
More than 4,000 families are displaced as a result of gun battles in three districts, said Hajri. He said Afghan forces have started a clearing operation against the insurgents.
In a separate report form northern Kapisa province six civilians, including women and children, were killed when their vehicle hit a roadside bomb, said Nasrat Rahimi, spokesman for the Interior Ministry.
Rahimi blamed the Taliban and added that two other civilians were wounded in Tuesday evening’s blast in Nejrab district.

HONG KONG, Oct 2 (Reuters) – Before he was battling police on the front lines of Hong Kong’s democracy movement, Tony Tsang, 18, was best known to his peers as a school vice-captain, organising events for fellow students, friends said on Wednesday.
They were speaking a day after the teenager was shot in the chest at point-blank range as he fought an officer with a metal pipe in Tsuen Wan district during some of the most violent clashes in Hong Kong since protests escalated in mid-June.
Tsang is stable in hospital where he is under arrest.
What started as protests over a now-withdrawn extradition bill that would have allowed people to be sent to mainland China for trial have evolved into calls for greater democracy, among other demands.
Speaking at a news conference held under the shade of a tree at the school where Tsang studies, current and former students, wearing masks to disguise their identities, described him as a gifted student and said his shooting had only fuelled their determination.

Hong Kong office workers, schoolmates denounce police shooting of teen
HONG KONG (Reuters) – Hong Kong office workers and high-school students turned out in their hundreds under a sweltering midday sun on Wednesday to denounce a policeman for shooting and wounding a teenager during the most violent clashes in nearly four months of unrest.
The office workers marched to Chater Garden in the Central business district as the students, some in the same class as the wounded 18-year-old, demonstrated outside his New Territories school.

The Chinese regime announced a new rule which requires residents to pass a facial recognition test in order to apply for an internet connection via smartphone or computer.

This is an upgraded restriction after the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) required all applicants to present a valid ID and personal information to register for a cell phone or a landline number since January 2015.

Climate and the Money Trail
Climate. Now who wudda thought. The very mega-corporations and mega-billionaires behind the globalization of the world economy over recent decades, whose pursuit of shareholder value and cost reduction who have wreaked so much damage to our environment both in the industrial world and in the under-developed economies of Africa, Asia, Latin America, are the leading backers of the “grass roots” decarbonization movement from Sweden to Germany to the USA and beyond. Is it pangs of guilty conscience, or could it be a deeper agenda of the financialization of the very air we breathe and more?
Whatever one may believe about the dangers of CO2 and risks of global warming creating a global catastrophe of 1.5 to 2 degree Celsius average temperature rise in the next roughly 12 years, it is worth noting who is promoting the current flood of propaganda and climate activism.
Green Finance
Several years before Al Gore and others decided to use a young Swedish school girl to be the poster child for climate action urgency, or in the USA the call of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez for a complete reorganization of the economy around a Green New Deal, the giants of finance began devising schemes for steering hundreds of billions of future funds to investments in often worthless “climate” companies.
In 2013 after years of careful preparation, a Swedish real estate company, Vasakronan, issued the first corporate “Green Bond.” They were followed by others including Apple, SNCF and the major French bank Credit Agricole. In November 2013 Elon Musk’s problem-riddled Tesla Energy issued the first solar asset-backed security. Today according to something called the Climate Bonds Initiative, more than $500 billion in such Green Bonds are outstanding. The creators of the bond idea state their aim is to win over a major share of the $45 trillion of assets under management globally which have made nominal commitment to invest in “climate friendly” projects.
Bonnie Prince Charles, future UK Monarch, along with the Bank of England and City of London finance have promoted “green financial instruments,” led by Green Bonds, to redirect pension plans and mutual funds towards green projects. A key player in the linking of world financial institutions with the Green Agenda is outgoing Bank of England head Mark Carney. In December 2015, the Bank for International Settlements’ Financial Stability Board (FSB), chaired then by Carney, created the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosure (TCFD), to advise “investors, lenders and insurance about climate related risks.” That was certainly a bizarre focus for world central bankers.
In 2016 the TCFD along with the City of London Corporation and the UK Government initiated the Green Finance Initiative, aiming to channel trillions of dollars to “green” investments. The central bankers of the FSB nominated 31 people to form the TCFD. Chaired by billionaire Michael Bloomberg of the financial wire, it includes key people from JP MorganChase; from BlackRock–one of the world’s biggest asset managers with almost $7 trillion; Barclays Bank; HSBC, the London-Hong Kong bank repeatedly fined for laundering drug and other black funds; Swiss Re, the world’s second largest reinsurance; China’s ICBC bank; Tata Steel, ENI oil, Dow Chemical, mining giant BHP Billington and David Blood of Al Gore’s Generation Investment LLC. In effect it seems the foxes are writing the rules for the new Green Hen House.
Bank of England’s Carney was also a key actor in efforts to make the City of London into the financial center of global Green Finance. The outgoing UK Chancellor of the Exchequer, Philip Hammond, in July 2019 released a White Paper, “Green Finance Strategy: Transforming Finance for a Greener Future.” The paper states, “One of the most influential initiatives to emerge is the Financial Stability Board’s private sector Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD), supported by Mark Carney and chaired by Michael Bloomberg. This has been endorsed by institutions representing $118 trillion of assets globally.” There seems to be a plan here. The plan is the financialization of the entire world economy using fear of an end of world scenario to reach arbitrary aims such as “net-zero greenhouse gas emissions.”
Goldman Sachs Key Actor
The omnipresent Wall Street bank, Goldman Sachs, which spawned among others ECB outgoing President Mario Draghi and Bank of England head Carney, has just unveiled the first global index of top-ranking environmental stocks, done along with the London-based CDP, formerly the Carbon Disclosure Project. The CDP, notably, is financed by investors such as HSBC, JPMorgan Chase, Bank of America, Merrill Lynch, Goldman Sachs, American International Group, and State Street Corp.
The new index, called CDP Environment EW and CDP Eurozone EW, aims to lure investment funds, state pension systems such as the CalPERS (the California Public Employees’ Retirement System) and CalSTRS (the California State Teachers’ Retirement System) with a combined $600+ billion in assets, to invest in their carefully chosen targets. Top rated companies in the index include Alphabet which owns Google, Microsoft, ING Group, Diageo, Philips, Danone and, conveniently, Goldman Sachs.
Enter Greta, AOC and Co.
At this point events take on a cynical turn as we are confronted with wildly popular, heavily promoted climate activists such as Sweden’s Greta Thunberg or New York’s 29-year-old Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and the Green New Deal. However sincere these activists may be, there is a well-oiled financial machine behind promoting them for gain.
Greta Thunberg is part of a well-connected network tied to the organization of Al Gore who is being cynically and professionally marketed and used by such agencies as the UN, the EU Commission and the financial interests behind the present climate agenda. As Canadian researcher and climate activist, Cory Morningstar, documents in an excellent series of posts, young Greta is working with a well-knit network that is tied to US climate investor and enormously wealthy climate profiteer, Al Gore, chairman of Generation Investment group. Gore’s partner, ex-Goldman Sachs official David Blood as noted earlier, is a member of the BIS-created TCFD. Greta Thunberg along with her 17-year-old US climate friend, Jamie Margolin, were both listed as “special youth advisor and trustee” of the Swedish We Don’t Have Time NGO, founded by its CEO Ingmar Rentzhog. Rentzhog is a member of Al Gore’s Climate Reality Organization Leaders, and part of the European Climate Policy Task Force. He was trained in March 2017 by Al Gore in Denver, and again in June 2018, in Berlin. Al Gore’s Climate Reality Project is a partner of We Don’t Have Time.
Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC), who made a huge splash in her first days in the US Congress for unveiling a “Green New Deal” to completely reorganize the US economy at a cost of perhaps $100 trillion, is also not without skilled guidance. AOC has openly admitted that she ran for Congress at the urging of a group called Justice Democrats. She told one interviewer, “I wouldn’t be running if it wasn’t for the support of Justice Democrats and Brand New Congress. The Real Agenda is Economic
The links between the world’s largest financial groups, central banks and global corporations to the current push for a radical climate strategy to abandon the fossil fuel economy in favor of a vague, unexplained Green economy, it seems, is less about genuine concern to make our planet a clean and healthy environment to live. Rather it is an agenda, intimately tied to the UN Agenda 2030 for “sustainable” economy, and to developing literally trillions of dollars in new wealth for the global banks and financial giants who constitute the real powers that be.
In February 2019 following a speech to the EU Commission in Brussels by Greta Thunberg, then-EU Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker, after gallantly kissing Greta’s hand, appeared to be moved to real action. He told Greta and the press that the EU should spend hundreds of billions of euros combating climate change during the next 10 years. Juncker proposed that between 2021 to 2027, “every fourth euro spent within the EU budget go toward action to mitigate climate change.” What the sly Juncker did not say was that the decision had nothing to do with the young Swedish activist’s plea. It had been made in conjunction with the World Bank a full year before in September 26, 2018 at the One Planet Summit, along with the World Bank, Bloomberg Foundations, the World Economic Forum and others. Juncker had cleverly used the media attention given the young Swede to promote his climate agenda.
On October 17, 2018, days following the EU agreement at the One Planet Summit, Juncker’s EU signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Breakthrough Energy-Europe in which member corporations of Breakthrough Energy-Europe will have preferential access to any funding.
The members of Breakthrough Energy include Virgin Air’s Richard Branson, Bill Gates, Alibaba’s Jack Ma, Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg, HRH Prince Al-waleed bin Talal, Bridgewater Associates’ Ray Dalio; Julian Robertson of hedge fund giant, Tiger Management; David Rubenstein, founder Carlyle Group; George Soros, Chairman Soros Fund Management LLC; Masayoshi Son, founder Softbank, Japan.
Make no mistake. When the most influential multinational corporations, the world’s largest institutional investors including BlackRock and Goldman Sachs, the UN, the World Bank, the Bank of England and other central banks of the BIS line up behind the financing of a so-called green Agenda, call it Green New Deal or what, it is time to look behind the surface of public climate activist campaigns to the actual agenda. The picture that emerges is the attempted financial reorganization of the world economy using climate, something the sun and its energy have orders of magnitude more to do with than mankind ever could—to try to convince us ordinary folk to make untold sacrifice to “save our planet.”
Back in 2010 the head of Working Group 3 of the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, Dr Otmar Edenhofer, told an interviewer, “…one must say clearly that we redistribute de facto the world’s wealth by climate policy. One has to free oneself from the illusion that international climate policy is environmental policy. This has almost nothing to do with environmental policy anymore, with problems such as deforestation or the ozone hole.” Since then the economic policy strategy has become far more developed.

Report: Trump White House upgraded special compartmented computer system to deter leaks

A key allegation spun from the “whistleblower” complaint about the Trump-Zelensky phone call was that the Trump White House had a nefarious reason for storing the transcript of the call on a special, compartmented computer system, instead of making it more generally available to national security staffers.
Although we’ve been over this ground several times now, it’s worth pointing out once again that the Trump administration is storing such files this way because limiting access to them helps to deter leaks. Politico offers a pretext for emphasizing this point anew, with an article published on Tuesday 1 October entitled “White House ordered ultrasecret system upgraded to prevent leaks.”
Politico explains that the system was upgraded in 2018 to enable the tracking of which users were accessing files. The purpose was to discourage administration insiders from going through such material and then leaking information from it. The use of the compartmented system, meanwhile, helped minimize the pool of individuals who could access the files at all.
If it hasn’t been made sufficiently clear, let us reiterate and stipulate one more time that the reason this was done was to prevent leaks.

Venezuelan prosecutor orders to investigate harassment of prisoners by Anaco police
CARACAS (Sputnik) – The Venezuelan attorney general, Tarek William Saab, ordered the opening of an investigation following a complaint of abuses committed against prisoners by the Anaco municipal police, in the state of Anzoátegui.
“#AHORA I have appointed 14th and 19th Prosecutors in Human Rights of #Anzoategui to investigate the brutal events that occurred in the Anaco Police, so Commissioner Hernán Diaz and two junior police officers will be charged for their responsibility,” Saab published in your Twitter account.
For the same violations of the human rights of the prison population, according to the prosecutor, officials Jackson Guevara, José Fernández and José Mendoza will be charged.
Several hours before, the journalist Alexandra Belandia spread a video on social networks showing dozens of naked prisoners, lying face down on the floor of a detention center, with two roosters fighting over their bodies and several agents in municipal police uniform walking among them and celebrating with giggles and jokes the macabre spectacle.

I believe she means “impeachment is too good for Trump,” but her tenuous grasp on English is the least of her problems.

Since before the 2016 election, Waters has been on a crusade to “impeach fohty-five,” alternately demanding that the president resign his office to “free” Democrats from the impeachment process and urging Americans to take to the street in opposition to the administration.
Some have treated the tweet as just another case of “Auntie Maxine” being herself. But I submit that her message is not something to treat lightly.
Politico reported yesterday on a relatively minor aspect of the likely fallout from Waters’s tweet, namely that her “call for the president to be put in solitary confinement has the potential to unsettle fellow Democrats. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.), a member of the Financial Services Committee, has compared solitary confinement to torture.”…
But a far more serious consideration is that Waters has now declared in essence that she’s prepared to bypass the law to satisfy her lust for punishing a man she dislikes intensely. As House Financial Services Committee chairwoman, Waters is in charge of one of six House committees charged with gathering evidence that will bear on the decision to go forward. This is a grave responsibility and one that the founders expected would be carried out dispassionately and with the seriousness it deserves. Can Maxine Waters be counted on to vote fairly as one of 535 House members, much less oversee the work of her committee without passion or prejudice? Her tweet casts doubt on that question. Vatican financial control office director, four others suspended: report
VATICAN CITY (Reuters) – Five Vatican employees, including the number two at the Vatican’s Financial Information Authority (AIF) and a monsignor, have been suspended following a police raid, the Italian magazine L’Espresso reported on Wednesday.
The scandal, affecting two departments at the heart of the Vatican, was the first after several years of relative calm in which reforms enacted by Pope Francis appeared to be taking root.
A Vatican spokesman said he had no immediate comment on the report.
On its website, L’Espresso published a picture of a police notice to guards at Vatican gates telling them not to allow in the five employees because they had been suspended. The notice included photographs of the five, one of whom is a woman.
The people whose pictures were on the notice included Tommaso Di Ruzza, the director of the AIF, and Monsignor Mauro Carlino, the head of documentation at the Secretariat of State. The other three held minor roles in the Secretariat of State, the key department in the Vatican’s central administration.
Calls to Di Ruzza’s cell phone went unanswered. Reuters was not immediately able to contact the other officials.
A senior Vatican source said he was aware of the suspension of four employees from the Secretariat of State but not of Di Ruzza’s suspension.
Vatican police raided both offices on Tuesday and seized documents and electronic devices as part of an investigation of suspected financial irregularities.
Tuesday’s raid is believed to be the first time the two departments were searched for evidence involving alleged financial crimes.
The Secretariat of State, the most powerful department in the Vatican, is the nerve center of its bureaucracy and diplomacy and the administrative heart of the worldwide Catholic Church.
The AIF, headed by Swiss lawyer Rene Bruelhart, Di Ruzza’s boss, is the financial controller, with authority over all Vatican departments.
ATTEMPT TO CLEAN UP IMAGE
In a statement on Tuesday, the Vatican said the operation was a follow-up to complaints filed in the summer by the Vatican bank and the Office of the Auditor General and were related to “financial operations carried out over the course of time”.
Since Francis’ election in 2013, the Vatican has tried to clean up its financial reputation.
Last year, a former head of the Vatican bank and an Italian lawyer went on trial to face charges of money laundering and embezzlement through real estate deals. It is still in progress.
The AIF said in May that reports of suspicious financial activity in the Vatican reached a six-year low in 2018, continuing a trend officials said showed reforms were in place.
The bank, officially known as the Institute for Works of Religion, or IOR, was for decades embroiled in numerous financial scandals as Italians with no right to have accounts opened them with the complicity of corrupt insiders.
Hundreds of IOR accounts were closed at the bank, whose stated purpose is to manage funds for the Church, Vatican employees, religious institutes or Catholic charities.
Italy put the Vatican on its “white list” of states with cooperative financial institutions in 2017, ending years of mistrust.
Moneyval, a monitoring body of the Council of Europe, gave Vatican financial reforms a mostly positive evaluation in a review the same year.

Turkey’s Top Diplomat: Macron ‘a Rooster Crowing While Its Feet Are Covered in Dirt’ (breitbart, Oct 2, 2019)

“Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu accused French President Emmanuel Macron of “defaming Turkey” in a speech this week in which he reportedly defended a free media in Turkey and urged Ankara to take in more migrants.
Turkey is currently hosting nearly 4 million refugees – the world’s largest refugee population – most of them fleeing the Syrian Civil War.
Cavusoglu insulted Macron in comments published by Anadolu Agency, Turkey’s state-run news service and one of the few in the country left untouched by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s sweeping crackdown on free media in the country. Since the failed coup against him in 2016, Erdogan has forced the shutdown of at least 130 media outlets; those that survived, like the newspapers Zaman and Hurriyet, were sold to Erdogan-friendly owners and now mostly republic Anadolu reports. Others, like Yeni Safak, were so fanatically pro-Erdogan to begin with that the government did nothing overtly to impact their reporting.
Turkey is the world’s most prolific jailer of journalists. Erdogan has said publicly, “democracy is not possible with the media.”
Anadolu Agency accused Macron of having “criticized Turkey’s policy on Syria as well as freedom of expression in the country” in remarks at this week’s Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE).
Macron “exceeded his boundaries by defaming Turkey on freedom of expression,” Cavusoglu told the outlet. “How many migrants has Macron accepted in his country? Instead, he hosted YPG/PKK terrorists at Elysee Palace.”
The YPG are the Syrian Kurdish People’s Protection Units (also consisting of a women’s army, the YPJ), an anti-Islamist militia allied with the United States that was largely responsible for the defeat of the Islamic State (ISIS) in Raqqa, the former capital of the jihadist group’s “caliph.” The PKK is the Kurdistan Workers’ Party, a Marxist terrorist organization. The United States has designated the PKK a terrorist group but cooperates with the YPG; the Turkish government considers them indistinguishable from each other and actively uses troops to antagonize the YPG and keep them far from the Turkish border.
France also cooperates with the YPG; Macron hosted leaders of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), a coalition featuring Kurdish fighters, in Paris this year.
Cavusoglu referred to Macron generally as a “rooster crowing while its feet are covered in dirt,” claiming that Macron is cooperating with terrorists by meeting with YPG officials and that the French government has also harassed journalists. His ties to the Kurdish separatists – who accept neither Islamist rule nor the regime of dictator Bashar al-Assad – render his criticism invalid, Cavusoglu meant to argue.
“Journalists were excluded from the PACE’s 70th anniversary celebration due to the blockage of France. Also, we know that Macron has shut down the media department in the Elysee,” the Turkish foreign minister said.
In an extended speech before the Council of Europe on Tuesday, Macron spoke generally about Europe having a responsibility to take in refugees and actively rejected the idea of “absolute free speech.”
Referring to social media, Macron said that Europe had to “deal with the issue of public order on the internet” today because the idea of individuals speaking freely into a universally accessible medium was new.
“Liberty is liberty that is expressed through the laws of the sovereign,” he insisted, adding that “there is no such thing” as “absolute” freedom of speech.
A week ago, Macron complained about the influx of migrants into France while visiting New York for the United Nations General Assembly.
“If France wants to welcome them, well, it cannot admit everyone,” he lamented. “I made a promise on this issue in July 2017, but we weren’t able to keep this promise.”
Macron has made his commitment to Kurdish fighters in the Middle East a prevalent part of his foreign policy, infuriating Turkey. He hosted members of the SDF in France in April, following the announcement of the complete eradication of the ISIS “caliphate” from the country. While ISIS remains a threat in Africa and southeast Asia, it no longer holds territory in the heart of the Middle East, save for small pockets in remote locations of Syria and Iraq.
Macron also maintains friendly relations with the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) of Iraq, an autonomous region from Baghdad that has diplomatic ties to Ankara. Barzani welcomed Masoud Barzani, the former KRG president, to Paris in September to discuss cooperation.
“President Barzani expressed support for the initiative by [French] President Emmanuel Macron on Syria and conveyed his concerns and observations to [Decottignies and his accompanying delegation] about the situation and future of the Kurdish people in Syria,” a statement from Barzani’s political party read following their meeting.
Macron most recently met a KRG representative in New York last week.
Macron also met in person with Erdogan this summer at the G-20 Summit in June, hosted by Japan. Despite the criticism, Turkey and France maintain cordial, if not close, relations.”
Kidnapped Italian Aid Worker Allegedly Forced to Convert to Islam (breitbart, Oct 2, 2019)

“Italian intelligence officials have claimed that kidnapped aid worker Silvia Romano is alive and was forced to convert to Islam and marry a Somalian man.
The 23-year-old Italian national was kidnapped in Kenya in November of last year and taken prisoner in the village of Chakama, 50 miles from Nairobi.
Intelligence officials said she was then taken to territory in southern Somalia controlled by the radical Islamist organisation al-Shabab. Her captors then forced her to convert to Islam, Il Giornale reports.
The paper claims Italian intelligence heard about Romano’s situation through local sources, but added that there was no reliable information as to her whereabouts or her current status.
Intelligence officials had planned on executing a military intervention to rescue Romano. That option was ruled out in response to news that her captors have taken her to Somalia, which has far fewer reliable allies.
Instead, officials have sought to find the captors and negotiate a ransom for her release. So far, they have been unsuccessful…”
France: Protesters demand truth about Rouen chemical factory fire
Hundreds of protesters were joined by labour union members, NGO representatives and activists as they took to the streets of Rouen on Tuesday to demand the truth about the fire that broke out at the Lubrizol chemical factory last Thursday.
Protesters can be seen marching through Rouen, carrying placards and banners.
Corinne, one of the protesters, explained her reasons for attended the march, saying “I’m here to know the truth, to know which products we are breathing, to know why they didn’t close the schools before knowing all the results. We want to know all the consequences on our health and on the animals, on the agriculture, it’s important as well. We’re waiting for true answers.”
“We’re afraid that other old factories could explode somewhere else. For future generations, for the planet, nowadays ecology is so important,” said Mary Angie, another protester.
Last Thursday, a fire erupted at a Lubrizol facility, causing a massive blaze and sending black smoke billowing into the sky over Rouen.Pierre-Andre Durand, the prefect of department of Seine-Maritime where Rouen is located, assured locals that tests found no harmful toxins in the water or air of the city and that people could live as normal, despite ordering the closure of schools.
Later, French Health Minister Agnes Buzyn reported said she could not guarantee there was no danger caused by pollutants emitted from the fire, with the contradiction causing outrage among locals.

YEMEN – Footage appears to show Canadian-made armoured vehicle captured by Yemen rebels in fighting with Saudis
Yemen’s Houthi rebels have released video footage of the aftermath of a battle with Saudi forces which appears to show a captured Canadian-made light armoured vehicle.
The footage was released Sunday in what the rebels say started as an ambush inside Saudi Arabia but then turned into a major cross-border battle. The footage of the battle was shown on Houthi-run Al Masirah TV and Al Jazeera.
The rebels claimed that the attack killed or wounded 500 Saudi soldiers. Saudi Arabia has not acknowledged the fighting and the Houthi claims have not been independently verified. The footage shows the captured light armoured vehicle, another destroyed light armoured vehicle as well as armoured trucks provided to the Saudis by the U.S. company Oshkosh. The footage also showed Saudi troops who were taken prisoner.
Over the years, Saudi Arabia has purchased light armoured vehicles from Canada’s General Dynamics Land Systems-Canada in London, Ont. In 2014, the then Conservative government announced a deal worth an estimated $15 billion to sell Saudi Arabia more than 700 light armoured vehicles. That controversial deal was later approved by the Liberal government.
A Saudi-led coalition, which has been provided with arms and intelligence from the U.S. and other western nations, intervened in Yemen in 2015 after the Houthis overthrew the government. Saudi Arabia has faced severe criticism for its role in the ongoing war in Yemen, with allegations it has conducted unlawful airstrikes on civilians.
Besides the armoured vehicles, the video shows large amounts of captured small arms. It is not clear whether the Houthi forces took possession of the armoured vehicle or left it at the ambush site. Houthi spokesman Brig. Gen. Yahya Saree told Al Masirah TV that the captured soldiers were moved to “secure places.”
The fighting lasted for 72 hours, he added.
Doug Wilson-Hodge, spokesman for General Dynamics Land Systems-Canada, said the company is declining to comment on the footage.
Global Affairs Canada did not comment.
The Houthi rebels claimed more than 200 Saudi soldiers were killed in the battle. The fighting took place in the southern region of Najran.
The Liberal government launched a review of the light armoured vehicle contract after the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi inside the Saudi consulate in Turkey. Earlier this year a United Nations report determined that Saudi Arabia was responsible for the killing of Khashoggi who was a critic of that country’s regime.
A dozen organizations sent Prime Minister Justin Trudeau a letter earlier in August, questioning the status of the review and pointing out that no updates on progress have been provided. The lack of such information has brought “the sincerity of the effort into question,” according to the letter endorsed by organizations such as Oxfam Canada and Amnesty International.
Relations between Canada and Saudi Arabia soured last year after the Canadian government called for the release of two jailed Saudi human rights activists.
The Saudis have also fallen behind in their payments for the light armoured vehicles received from General Dynamics. It was revealed in December that the Saudis owed Canada more than $1 billion for vehicles already delivered.

In August, the Liberal government announced it would provide General Dynamics with a $650 million repayable loan. It also signed a $2 billion sole-source contract to purchase 360 additional light armoured vehicles from the company.
Industry representatives say that deal was designed to help the firm handle the decision by the Saudis to withhold payment for vehicles already delivered as well shore up Liberal election fortunes in London area ridings. The armoured vehicle project for the Canadian Army was originally announced by the Liberal government with an estimated cost between $500 million and $1.5 billion. The plan was to award the contract in 2023 after a competition. But that competition was jettisoned in favour of the sole-source deal with General Dynamics.

A long-standing faculty member at the Link Campus, a Rome-based university chaired by former Italian interior minister Vincenzo Scotti where many prominent Five Star Movement officials have taught, the Maltese lecturer is now back at the forefront of the Russiagate investigation. According to the Washington Post and the New York Times, US president Donald Trump sent his Attorney general William Barr on a mission to Rome on September 27 to speak to Italian officials. The Trump administration is keen to “investigate the investigators”, meaning it is trying to gather information on the Mueller investigation in order to discredit the special counsel’s findings. Trump has reportedly pressured the Australian PM Scott Morrison, probably to verify the alleged involvement of the austrialian ambassador Alexander Downer, and is now appealing to the Italian government for help.
Trump’s inner circle sees the Russiagate investigation as a “conspiracy” devised by Western secret services in accordance with the US “deep state” (the Cia and the Fbi). They are accused of having created a scandal before the 2016 elections to pressure Trump to resign in case he won. The conspiracy theory conceived by George Papadopoulos, Trump’s former campaign advisor, is now widely shared by the US administration.
According to the Washington Post, Barr came to Italy along with Us attorney in Conncticut John Durham, who is investigating on behalf of the Department for Justice on the “lawfulness and appropriateness” of the US intelligence’s activities during the 2016 electoral campaign.
Joseph Mifsud, the former lecturer at Link Campus, in April 2016 informed Papadopoulos that the Russians had gotten hold of “thousands of dirt emails” on Hillary Clinton according to Mueller’s evidence. Mifsud introduced Papadopoulos to figures close to Vladimir Putin including Ivan Timofeev, a member of the Kremlin-founded International Affairs Council think tank. Moreover, Mifsud and Papadopoulos met for the first time at Link Campus in Rome in March 2016.
The Maltese academic found himself at Link Campus, where he liaised with the Lomonosov University in Moscow, when the documents of the investigation were made public on October 31 2017 and disappeared the following day.
Mifsud was hidden in an apartment in Rome paid for by Link Campus while he was sought after by the police il Foglio revealed in an investigation. The flat was paid by the university through a firm co-owned by Mifsud himself.
There have been no news on the Maltese academic ever since his rental contract expired. Stephan Roh, Mifsud’s lawyer and shareholder at Link Campus where he owns 5 per cent of the assets, told Il Foglio: “Defending the interests of our client Prof Mifsud, we have discussed with key persons at Link University in Rome that they should come forward and testify to US investigators.”. Where is Mifsud now? “Unfortunately, Prof Mifsud does not contact our law firm for unknown reason. We have been informed that he is in Italy, at least until recently”.

House Democrats this week called in fired US Ambassador Marie Yovanovich to testify in their sham impeachment proceedings.

As The Times reports, “The Democratic head of the House Intelligence Committee, Representative Adam B. Schiff of California, learned about the outlines of a C.I.A. officer’s concerns that President Trump had abused his power days before the officer filed a whistle-blower complaint,” adding “the original accusation was vague,” and “The aide did not share the whistle-blower’s identity with Mr. Schiff or anyone else.”
So – according to the Times, Schiff kinda sorta knew what the whistleblower said, and a House Intel Committee aide told him (or her) to get an attorney – Andrew Bakaj – who “interned for Schumer in the spring of 2001 and for Clinton in the fall of the same year,” per The Federalist.
The Times goes to great lengths to explain that nothing was untwoard.
“Like other whistle-blowers have done before and since under Republican and Democratic-controlled committees, the whistle-blower contacted the committee for guidance on how to report possible wrongdoing within the jurisdiction of the intelligence community,” said Schiff spokesman Patrick Boland.
