“The United States announced it has reopened its embassy in Somalia nearly three decades after the country collapsed into civil war and the US military airlifted the ambassador to safety.
Wednesday’s statement said the opening reflects recent progress in the Horn of Africa nation that still faces frequent attacks by al-Qaida-linked al-Shabaab extremists.
Al-Shabaab on Monday attempted to storm the Belidogle military airstrip in southern Somalia that hosts Somali and US forces and is used to launch drones that attack al-Shabaab targets.
The US military said it has carried out 54 airstrikes against al-Shabaab and a local ISIS affiliate this year.
The US Embassy in Mogadishu had closed in 1991. The US formally recognized Somalia’s new federal government in 2013 but had based its diplomatic mission in neighboring Kenya.”

“Tunisian security units specialized in fighting terrorism have arrested 56 takfiri elements in several Tunisian states, including Bizerte and Manouba (northern Tunis).
The elements were arrested during security crackdowns aimed at pursuing elements having links to the two stabbing incidents that had taken place in Bizerte last week.
Head of the security office in Bizerte’s Court of Appeal was killed in the incidents and a soldier was slightly injured.
Regarding details of these security crackdowns, the Interior Ministry’s General Directorate of Public Security confirmed that security services have implemented a precise plan.
The plan, it said, called for pursuing suspects whose names were mentioned during interrogations with the arrested terrorists after the attack in Bizerte and were in contact with Malik al-Thawadi, who carried out the two stabbing attacks.
According to information provided by the interior ministry, the detainees, aged between 25 and 43, possessed knives and extremist-oriented books considered to be a threat to Tunisia’s national security.
It is noteworthy that a similar security crackdown was carried out following the stabbing incidents in Bizerte, and it included various areas in the governorate. It resulted in arresting two takfiri elements on Monday.
Security agencies fighting terrorism arrested last week four terrorist elements linked with the stabbing incidents.
The cell was ready to carry out further attacks against security and military figures.”

“Members of the Kurdish militia named the People’s Protection Units (YPG) in Syria have killed a female refugee for protesting against the militia’s policy of separating children from their mothers in a refugee camp in the north of the country.
According to the Turkish news site the Anadolu Agency which cited local sources yesterday, a group of female refugees were protesting against the poor conditions at the Al-Hawl camp and the YPG’s oppressive treatment after it begun separating children, aged 12 and under, from their mothers. The militant group then cracked down on the protests, killing one of the women in the process.
The camp, which is located in northern Syria, is a holding place for Syrian civilians who escaped the conflict taking place in the province of Deir ez-Zour, as well as for the families of former Daesh members and those of other groups. The vast majority of the displaced Syrians were reportedly brought to the camp forcefully by the YPG in April 2017.

Long ago, political radicals and terrorists discovered that – so long as they called themselves human rights activists –journalists, other human rights activists, and even diplomats would accept their polemics at face value. It seems that the Qatari government and its Hamas and MB networks have discovered the same principle applies to news outlets and portals.
Al Jazeera may be the most prominent example, but it seems that Al Jazeera’s managers now seek to seed other networks as well, and that Qatari funds mandate an agenda.

“At least six government soldiers were killed and several others wounded when twin roadside explosions targeted a military convoy outside the Somali capital Mogadishu on Wednesday, officials said.
The attack took place near Elasha Biyaha, 15 kilometers (9 miles) southwest of the capital Mogadishu.
Ibrahim Elmi, a police sergeant in the area, told Anadolu Agency that the attacks were double land mine blasts that targeted a military convoy traveling between Mogadishu and the town of Afgoye in the Lower Shabelle region.
Police officers secured the area and an investigation is underway, he added.
No group has yet claimed responsibility for the twin attacks on Wednesday but Somali-based insurgents group al-Shabaab have claimed responsibility for many attacks in the Horn of African Nation.
An October 2017 car bomb attack in Mogadishu blamed on al-Shabaab took nearly 600 lives and injured over 300, according to a Somali committee report next year.”

“Iraqi Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi on Wednesday declared a curfew in Baghdad until further notice after at least seven people were killed and more than 400 were injured during two days of nationwide anti-government protests.
Curfews were imposed earlier in three southern cities while elite counter-terrorism troops opened fire on protesters trying to storm Baghdad airport and deployed to the southern city of Nassiriya after gunfights broke out between protesters and security forces, police sources said.
“All vehicles and individuals are totally forbidden to move in Baghdad as of 5 am today, Thursday, and until further notice,” Abdul Mahdi said in a written statement.
Travelers to and from Baghdad airport, ambulances, government employees in hospitals, electricity, and water departments, and religious pilgrims are exempt from the curfew, the statement said. It was up to provincial governors to decide whether to declare curfews elsewhere.
Curfews were imposed in Nassiriya, Amara and Hilla as protests that began on Tuesday over unemployment, corruption and poor public services escalated.
Demands on Wednesday included the “fall of the regime” and protesters set government and political party buildings ablaze in two other southern provinces.
The slogan, “the people demand the fall of the regime,” was popularized during the 2011 Arab Spring uprisings.
Five people were killed on Wednesday and more than 200 were wounded in renewed clashes nationwide, the largest display of public anger against Abdul Mahdi’s year-old government. Two were killed on Tuesday.
Domestic instability coupled with regional tensions could prove to be the final nail in the coffin of Abdul Mahdi’s fragile coalition government, sworn in as a compromise between rival factions after an inconclusive election.
“We are demanding a change, we want the downfall of the whole government,” said one protester in Baghdad who declined to identify himself for fear of reprisal.
Any power vacuum in Iraq, should the government be toppled, could prove challenging for the region, given Baghdad’s status as an ally of both the United States and Iran, who are locked in a political standoff.

“The Paris prosecutor opened an investigation into Eric Zemmour’s remarks at the “Convention of the Right” on Saturday, September 28.
Zemmour’s speech attacking immigrants, whom he qualified as “colonizers,” and “Islamization in the streets” has led to the opening of an investigation.
The Paris prosecutor opened the investigation on October 1 for “public insults because of origin or belonging or non-belonging of a particular ethnicity, nation, race or religion” and “public provocation to discrimination, hatred or violence, towards a person or group of persons because of their origin or belonging to or not belonging to a particular ethnic group, nation, race or religion.”
The Human Crime Suppression Brigade (BRDP) is carrying out the investigation, according to the French Press Agency (AFP).
The French writer’s speech was broadcast live by the news channel LCI at the “Convention of the right” organized in Paris by the far-right MP Marion Marechal and his relatives.
During his speech, Zemmour said that a “Muslim immigrants” are carrying out a “large replacement” of the predominantly white and Chrisitan French population.
“Will young French people accept to live in a minority on the land of their ancestors?” pointed out Zemmour, who was convicted for provoking religious hatred on September 17.
He also joked about the clothes of Sibeth Ndiaye, the government spokesperson, warning French citizens not to be fooled by his appearance.

Zemmour’s statements stirred uproar among both the TV viewers and even within the government. French PM Edouard Philippe has condemned the speech.
Philippe considered the speech as “nauseating and deeply contrary to the idea we have of France and the Republic.”
LCI has also commented on Zemmour’s hatred-inciting speech.”The national broadcast of the speech was not the appropriate format for our channel,” said the administration of the TF1 group in a statement on Sunday.
On Monday, September 30, the Superior council of audio-visual (CSA) said they had received around 400 complaints about the broadcast.”

“Some 315,000 irregular migrants — aiming to illegally cross to Europe — were held across Turkey in the first nine months of the current year, Turkish interior minister said on Oct. 2.
About 268,000 people were held while attempting to illegally cross to Europe in 2018, said Suleyman Soylu, adding his ministry is expecting the number to reach 400,000 at the end of 2019.
“We have been trying to explain to Europe about the illegal migrants from Afghanistan and Africa for 3-4 years. Unfortunately, they don’t understand. Almost 45.5% of the migrants that reach Europe are Afghans,” Soylu said.
Soylu further said that distance between countries in the world do not provide protection, adding: “If the Middle East is not safe, Paris is not safe, Berlin is not safe, and other parts of the world are definitely not safe.”

“Turkish migrants increasingly face discriminatory policies and systematic racism in Western Europe, Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavu?o?lu said on Oct. 2.
“We are worried over growing discrimination faced by Turkish communities in Western Europe,” Çavu?o?lu said during a meeting in the western German city of Dusseldorf, stressing that discriminatory and racist policies were increasingly becoming systematic, and backed by officials at various levels in those countries.
Turkey’s top diplomat met with Turkish Consul Generals serving in European cities for a special gathering to discuss various problems faced by Turkish communities in Europe and possible measures to enhance consular services.
Çavu?o?lu urged Turkish diplomats to give utmost importance to incidents of racist discrimination, xenophobic attacks and Islamophobic crimes, provide support for the victims and raise concerns in talks with the relevant authorities.
“As Consul Generals you are not only talking with our citizens, but also with politicians in the countries you serve,” he said.
“Political leaders should act with common sense, they should refrain from a divisive rhetoric, shouldn’t use religious or ethnic differences for propaganda. This kind of othering rhetoric, using discriminatory rhetoric, creates a climate of hate which emboldens racist attacks. Please tell this during your meetings with interlocutors,” he said.
Europe has witnessed growing number of cases related to racism and Islamophobia in recent years, triggered by the propaganda launched by far-right parties.
According to a report by Ankara-based think tank SETA, 676 Islamophobic incidents were documented in France in 2018, against 446 in 2017 with a 52% rise.
In Austria, 540 cases of Islamophobic incidents were recorded last year, compared to 309 cases in 2017.
In Germany, police recorded 813 hate crimes against Muslims last year, including insults, threatening letters, physical assaults and attacks against mosques.
More than 100 mosques and religious institutions were attacked.
The EU’s largest economy, a country of over 81 million people, hosts nearly 4.7 million Muslims — the second-largest Muslim population in Western Europe after France. It includes three million Turkish minority population as well.”

“The forces of Libyan eastern commander Khalifa Haftar on Wednesday said they have carried out two air raids that destroyed installations from which ”Turkish drones” were prepared and armed. Such drones were used in raids of the national unity government of Fayez al Sarraj, according to the statement.
The attacks hit the airport of Mitiga, in Tripoli, and of Misrata, according to Ahmed el Mesmari, spokesman of the so-called Libyan National Army (LNA) of Haftar. ”One hundred percent of our targets were struck and our jets returned to their bases safe and sound”, added Mesmari in a statement published on his Facebook page.

“Italian health authorities sounded the alarm on Tuesday over Rome’s rubbish crisis, as rat control services worked overtime and the waste collection company board resigned.
The board of Ama, the rubbish collection company that in recent years has been dogged by inefficiency and corruption scandals, stepped down Monday over a dispute with the city council – just 100 days after it took over.
The previous board had been sacked in February by Rome mayor Virginia Raggi, who has come under intense public pressure over the long-standing problem with the Eternal City’s overflowing bins, which regularly attract seagulls, rats, and even wild boar.
“The chaos in which Ama finds itself, with the umpteenth resignation of the umpteenth Board of Directors… worries Rome’s Order of Doctors”, the organisation’s president and deputy, Antonio Magi and Pierluigi Bartoletti, wrote in an official note.
“Piles of rubbish in every street, near schools, hospitals, public places… risk creating a health emergency,” they said.
Anaci, the national association of condominium administrators, said on Monday it had received 12,000 requests for rodent exterminations between May and September – three times more than it usually does over the summer period.
Some city residents have resorted to taping their bins closed to keep rats out – and the stench in – saying there have been no collections in some areas for up to three months.
Rome’s chief physician Antonio Magi had issued a “hygiene alert” in July, telling AFP there was a risk of disease spreading through the faeces of insects and animals banqueting on rotting waste.
‘Big problems’
The capital now only has one waste processing plant, which is buckling under the strain.
“Within 15 days the city is going to have big problems,” Ama’s outgoing managing director Paolo Longoni said Wednesday.
Longoni and his fellow board members’ departures marks the sixth time the board has changed in three years.
Raggi, a member of the anti-establishment Five Star Movement, became the capital’s first female mayor in 2016 by tapping into anger over corruption scandals – in particular the infiltration of crime families in the city’s waste management system.
In April this year she defended herself against accusations she had failed to turn the situation around, saying Rome was “under attack” from mobsters determined not to release their grip on a lucrative sector.
Her comments followed several large blazes at waste treatment plants, and hundreds of bins set alight across the city.
Crime families in Italy have long held control over large parts of the country’s waste management systems.
In 2014 the capital was shaken by revelations that the city administration had, for years, been infiltrated by a mafia-style network which syphoned off millions of euros destined for public services.
The criminal network, run by a one-eyed mobster with links to the far right, was dubbed “Mafia Capitale” by the media.
Italy’s anti-corruption body in 2015 warned Rome lacked the “antibodies” necessary to fight the infiltration of gangsters.
Opposition parties were quick Wednesday to call for Raggi’s head to roll, saying the Five Star Movement, which governs Italy as part of the ruling coalition, was running the capital city into the ground in an international embarrassment for Italy.”
