“Pakistani troops have targeted forward posts and villages along the Line of Control with mortar shells and small arms fire, the Indian Army claimed on Tuesday. The two sides have been urging each other to respect the 2003 Ceasefire arrangement in letter and spirit and maintain peace on the boundary.
The firing started a day after Pakistan’s foreign ministry summoned the Indian envoy over the killing of two civilians and injury of several others along the border.
“On Tuesday at about 0745 hours local time, Pakistan initiated unprovoked ceasefire violation by firing of small arms and shelling with mortars in Shahpur and Kirni sectors of Poonch district,” the Indian Army spokesman in Jammu said.
The Indian Army retaliated and a heavy exchange of fire was still going on when the reports last came in, the spokesman added. Over the last three days, several ceasefire violations were reported from both sides in which over a dozen people were injured.
The Indian Army claimed that Pakistan had violated the ceasefire over 2,000 times along the Line of Control this year, leaving 21 people dead and scores injured.
On Monday (30 September), Pakistan’s foreign ministry blamed Indian troops for deliberately targeting civilian populated areas and termed it “deplorable and contrary to human dignity, international human rights and humanitarian laws”.
“The ceasefire violations by India are a threat to regional peace and security and may lead to a strategic miscalculation,” the Pakistan foreign ministry added.
The two sides have been urging each other to respect the 2003 Ceasefire arrangement in letter and spirit and maintain peace on the Line of Control and the Working Boundary.
Relations between the two South Asian nations have dipped to a low since February this year, when India blamed Pakistan for sponsoring terror attacks in Kashmir after the Pulwama incident. Forty troopers were killed in a suicide attack on a convoy earlier this year, which was claimed by the US-designated terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM), which maintains bases in Pakistan.
The Indian Air Force had carried out a retaliatory air strike to destroy the alleged terror infrastructure of JeM in Balakot inside Pakistan. The tension resurfaced in August when the Indian government revoked the special status enjoyed by Jammu and Kashmir which Pakistan claims violates bilateral treaties between the two countries.
The Kashmir issue dates back to 1947,when both countries became independent from Britain with both claiming Kashmir as their own. India and Pakistan have fought three wars since then, two over Kashmir.”

“India’s intelligence agencies recently warned that a Jaish-e-Mohammed cell of 8-10 terrorists would possibly try to carry out a suicide attack on Air Force bases in and around Jammu and Kashmir.
Indian security agencies have broken up a major terror plot in Jammu and Kashmir after seizing at least 15 kg of explosives from a bus near Jammu.
According to police, three people have been taken into custody and are being questioned in Jammu.
The official claimed that a bag full of the powerful explosive RDX was recovered from a bus on its way from Billawar Tehsil in Kathua to Jammu. The bag was given to the conductor of the bus in Bilawar.
The discovery of explosives comes just weeks after the Indian intelligence agency said that terrorists may try to carry out Pulwama-style terror attack in Kashmir.
The Pulwama district attack that occurred on 14 February this year, claimed the lives of 40 Indian security personnel as an explosive-laden car was rammed into a security convoy. The Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammad terror group claimed responsibility for the attack.
The latest news comes after intelligence agencies warned on 25 September that a Jaish-e-Mohammed cell of 8-10 terrorists would possibly try to carry out a suicide attack on Air Force bases in and around Jammu and Kashmir. The Pulwama terror attack nearly led to war between India and PAkistan.
Last Friday, while delivering speech at UN General Assembly, Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan warned of the possibility of another Pulwama like attack in Kashmir. “Kashmiris will be further radicalised. There will be another Pulwama and India will blame us,” Khan said.”

“Bologna archbishop Matteo Maria Zuppi has modified an age-old recipe for the feast of the city’s patron, San Petronio, commissioning a pork-free version of Bologna’s iconic tortellini pasta so that Muslims will feel welcome.
This Friday, which commemorates the feast of Saint Petronius, pasta makers will gather as they do every year at 11:00am in the large central square that bears the saint’s name. There they will roll out the fresh egg pasta by hand, with the variant that alongside the traditional pork-filled pasta a chicken-filled version will also be prepared at the prelate’s request.
Archbishop Zuppi, who will be made a cardinal by Pope Francis next Saturday, has dubbed the modified pasta “welcome tortellini” but many locals are referring to the alteration as “culinary blasphemy.”
“Bologna,” Zuppi has said, “has always had a great ability to welcome the other. You become a Bolognese easily!”
The original, centuries-old tortellini recipe, registered with the city’s Chamber of Commerce, contains a mixture of pork (loin, ham, and mortadella) along with Parmesan cheese, eggs, and nutmeg.
For Anna Maria Silvi, owner of Paolo Atti & Sons, a pillar of Bologna’s pasta-making tradition dating back to 1880, the archbishop’s decision borders on sacrilege.
“Tortellini are made in a certain way. If the recipe changes, they are no longer tortellini,” she declared. “If the choice is based on religious motives, then, in order not to betray the tradition, why not use another of our stuffed pasta, such as tortellone, with ricotta, parsley and parmesan?”
The archbishop is even receiving push-back from purists of the Bolognese tradition within the Catholic Church. Bishop Ernesto Vecchi, for instance, a former auxiliary bishop of Bologna and a great food lover, registered his disapproval of the move.
“I do not judge the initiative, but if you mess with tortellini you destroy it,” Bishop Vecchi said. “You need all the classic ingredients, starting with mortadella, otherwise it is no longer tortellini but something else.”
Paola Lazzari Pallotti, the chef who developed the new chicken recipe, has defended the archbishop’s decision against critics, insisting that the new tortellini “can be enjoyed by everyone, both by those who do not eat pork for religious reasons and those elderly persons who may want to eat light.”
This is not the first time that the Bolognesi have gotten their backs up over efforts to tweak their city’s premier dish.
When the Tortellini Festival was born seven years ago in the city, many people rebelled at the gastronomic heresy. Participating restaurants reinterpreted the dish most dear to Bolognese, going so far as to produce meatless or fish-based versions of tortellini. Over time, the furor has all but abated.
According to the Vicar General of the Archdiocese of Bologna, Monsignor Giovanni Silvagni, the archbishop’s move symbolizes the Church’s openness to everyone.
“By its very form, the tortellino reminds us of something that embraces everyone,” he said. “Along with becoming a cardinal, our bishop will be a close collaborator of the pope and, therefore, will have a task that extends beyond the boundaries of the archdiocese and embraces the whole world.”

“French former populist MP Marion Maréchal has called on her supporters to fight the “Great Replacement” at a major French right-wing conference.
Ms Maréchal made her comments on Saturday in Paris at the “Convention of the Right”, stating that massive demographic change, known as the Great Replacement, is a vital challenge for the right in France to overcome, Europe1 reports.
“The first major challenge, the most vital, is the Great Replacement, this demographic countdown, which already makes us realise the possibility of becoming a minority on the land of our ancestors,” Maréchal said.
She added that the consequences of the Great Replacement would be a “multicultural society that wants to be fractured and violent”.
The theory of the Great Replacement, in which mass migration results in social and demographic upheaval, was coined by prolific French writer Renaud Camus who said it was a result of the interchangeability of everything applied to human beings.
During the start of the Gilets Jaunes movement last November, Camus spoke to Breitbart London about the movement and the Great Replacement saying people were becoming “a product, a producer, and a consumer all at once, a thing, a number, not a human being”.
Maréchal also asked members of the audience to come together as a united French right and “break down yesterday’s partisan barriers”.
While she did not put herself forward as a potential candidate in the 2022 French presidential elections, Maréchal said: “Tomorrow, and I am deeply convinced about this, we will be in power.”
The speech and the event marks a major comeback for Maréchal in French politics. After resigning as an MP in 2017, Maréchal formed the Institute of Social, Economic, and Political Sciences (ISSEP) in Lyon, a political management school.
Since then, she appeared in early 2018 at the annual Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in the United States where she spoke out on the effects of mass migration in France.
“After 40 years of mass migration, Islamic lobbies and political correctness, France is in the process of passing from the eldest daughter of the Catholic Church, to becoming the little niece of Islam. The impetus for both questions is a story that appeared within the hour in the Washington Post that reports that a “sixth-grade girl at a private Virginia school who accused three classmates last week of forcibly cutting her hair now says the allegations were false, according to statements from the girl’s family and the principal at Immanuel Christian School in Springfield. School officials met with the girl and her family Monday morning before releasing the statement.”
Last Thursday, the same Post writer, Joe Heim, reported that the 12-year-old, who is black, claimed that three white male students held her down on a school playground during recess. Covering her mouth so she couldn’t scream, they boys snipped off her dreadlocks, all the while calling her insulting names. Police were immediately called in, and an investigation was launched.
Today in a statement to the media the school’s principal, Stephen Danish, thanked the cops for their diligence, adding, “While we are relieved to hear the truth and bring the events of the past few days to a close, we also feel tremendous pain for the victims and the hurt on both sides of this conflict. We recognize that we now enter what will be a long season of healing.”

Russia: MoD tests Topol-M intercontinental ballistic missile
Russian Defence Ministry released footage on Monday showing the test launch of its Topol-M intercontinental ballistic missile (ICMB) from the Plesetsk Cosmodrome in the Arkhangelsk region.
According to the MoD, the missile successfully hit its target in the Kamchatka Peninsula in the Russian Far East.
The test launch was carried out to check the readiness and flight performance of the missile, the ministry said in a statement.

A Boko Haram terrorist splinter group known by the acronym ISWAP – Islamic State West Africa Province – uses drones and armoured car bombs to track and attack Nigerian forces, with equipment and technical expertise provided by Daesh* core, according to a report by the Soufan Group on Tuesday.
“ISWAP has received tactical guidance from Daesh core, with innovation on utilising drones [as] the most effective means of detecting Nigeria’s military movements, conducting ambushes against them and undermining the military’s new ‘supercamp’ strategy,” the report said.
ISWAP dominates large tracts of Nigeria’s north-eastern Borno province. The nation’s military recently consolidated soldiers in large “supercamps” instead of poorly protected rural positions to battle the terrorist group, which controls much of the region, the report explained.
ISWAP is one of several groups created when the Boko Haram terrorist group splintered in 2016, the report noted.
Technology and equipment was most likely transferred from Daesh in Syria and Iraq through direct exchanges between fighters in Libya or Nigeria, the report said.
Daesh also transferred media templates and graphics to ISWAP, whose media is fully incorporated into the group’s centralised messaging, the report added.

“A migrant in his 20s has been sentenced to three years in prison for raping an 11-year-old and getting her pregnant twice but will be allowed to return to Sweden after 10 years.
The migrant, whose original nationality is not clear, began his sexual relationship with the young girl during the summer of 2018, repeatedly sexually molesting her over the summer period, according to a report from Nyheter Idag.
It took a full year before the migrant was arrested in July of 2019, and he was charged with four counts of rape in early September and found guilty of three of the counts.
The young girl also fell pregnant twice as a result of the rapes, but according to the Swedish news outlet, it is unknown whether or not either of the pregnancies were taken to term.
The Blekinge District Court found the migrant guilty despite his pleas that he had no idea what the girl’s real age was, claiming that he thought she was above the Swedish age of consent, which is 15.
On top of the three-year sentence, the migrant will also be forced to pay around 22,000 euros to the victim in compensation. However, he was able to get around a lifetime ban from the country with a ban of just ten years being ordered by the court.
The case comes just months after a 17-year-old migrant in July was found guilty of raping a young girl. The migrant, in that case, admitted to the crime but claimed that no one in Sweden had told him the act was illegal beforehand.
In yet another rape case involving migrants in Sweden this year, seven Afghan migrants along with a Swedish citizen were arrested in connection to a rape attack or multiple attacks in Östersund.
One of the Afghans was revealed to have been a worker for a migrant integration charity which later fired him following his arrest.”

WaPo –Éric Zemmour is France’s right-wing prophet of doom. Why is he so popular?
PARIS — Éric Zemmour was dressed for battle. Wearing a gray suit, a brown Hermès belt and chocolate suede loafers to match, he scrolled through the cyber artillery directed his way.
Days earlier, Zemmour, a provocative columnist for Le Figaro and a household name in France, had launched a grenade during an interview on a prime-time Sunday show. He told host Hapsatou Sy, a black woman, that it was a shame her parents had not given her a Christian name. “Your name is an insult to France,” he said. And so began another round of the debate about French national identity.
In his television appearances, radio segments and columns, Zemmour’s aim is partly to scandalize and partly to normalize. Although the French far right lacks political power, it is in some ways winning the battle of ideas, thanks largely to Zemmour. People listen to the man in the slick gray suit.
These days, he is preaching about French decline, as he did in his 2014 bestseller, “French Suicide.” But in a new bestseller published last month, “French Destiny,” he also blends unapologetic Islamophobia with once unimaginable historical revisionism.
“Today, we live in a de facto colonization from the populations that come from the south of the Mediterranean and who impose — through numbers and, sometimes, with violence — a de facto sharia,” Zemmour said in an interview at Le Figaro’s Paris headquarters.
He anticipates a “new civil war” between “those who do not wish to abandon the identity of France, which is to say its Christian, and white, identity,” and those who accept “the Islamization of France.”
Strictly speaking, Zemmour belongs to the “populations that come from the south of the Mediterranean.” He was born in the Paris suburbs in 1958, the son of Berber Jews who arrived in France during the Algerian War, already as French citizens.
In some ways, his views are consistent with those of the “pied-noirs,” the class of Europeans exiled from Algeria, who tended to become politically conservative, suspicious of Muslims and deeply resentful of Charles de Gaulle for having given up the fight. Zemmour takes particular pleasure in attacking the deceased general and president, who, as he writes, “performed euthanasia under anesthesia” on a weakened nation.
At the same time, Zemmour echoes the ahistoric views of Jean-Marie Le Pen, father of the French far-right. (Le Pen’s memoir, published earlier this year, was also a bestseller.)
Like Le Pen, Zemmour offers an emphatic defense of France’s Vichy government in World War II, a regime that openly collaborated with Nazi Germany in arresting and deporting 76,000 French and foreign-born Jews. Vichy leader Philippe Pétain, in Zemmour’s telling, was “double-dealing,” trying to save the country, and French Jews, behind the scenes. Zemmour once told an audience in Paris’s Grand Synagogue that “the word ‘deportation’ in 1942 did not mean ‘deported to Auschwitz.’ It meant those deported to Eastern Europe.”
Meanwhile, he blames contemporary anti-Semitism entirely on Arabs. “It’s simple, if I dare to say it,” he told The Washington Post. “Anti-Semitism was reborn in France with the arrival of the populations from Muslim territories, where anti-Semitism — if you like — is cultural.”
Shortly after making that remark, Zemmour asked whether he could review his comments, which were also recorded, before publication, a practice not uncommon in French media. When told no, he balked. France has strict hate speech laws, and others, notably historian Georges Bensoussan, have recently been taken to court over similar comments about Muslims. Zemmour — who was convicted of inciting racial hatred for saying on public television in 2011 that employers had a right to refuse blacks and Arabs — was not sure that things would go his way in a repeat scenario. “If I go to prison because of this, you can bring me oranges,” he said at the end of the interview.
Even while he courts controversy, Zemmour has managed to make formerly extreme views more mainstream. He writes, after all, in the pages of France’s most bourgeois newspaper and is a constant voice on RTL, one of the country’s most respected radio channels.
“The classic, conservative bourgeoisie can say to themselves, this is a good Jew: He says that Vichy wasn’t so bad, and that Muslims are even worse than people say usually,” said Dominique Moïsi, a political scientist whose father survived Auschwitz.
Zemmour’s rhetoric plays into lingering anxieties over migration and a deadly spate of terrorist violence that began in 2015. His reception also benefits from public disenchantment with President Emmanuel Macron, whose pro-business agenda has earned him the moniker of “president for the rich.”
Historians, meanwhile, worry about how widespread Zemmour’s image of the past has become. Zemmour is the first to admit that his work is not always based on hard evidence. As he put it: “I don’t consider myself a professional historian in the sense that I don’t go to the archives to exhume new pieces, et cetera.” At the same time, he does have a theory of history: “All historians are revisionists,” he said.
For Laurent Joly, author of a new study of Vichy’s anti-Semitism published this month, Zemmour’s popularity is a troubling sign of a reading public uninterested in the truth.
“More and more, the place of the historian is disputed and what is authoritative in the eyes of the general public is now a Zemmour, against a backdrop of growing historical ignorance, intellectual regression and a crisis of values,” Joly said.
For the moment, Zemmour is everywhere: smiling on book covers, ranting in the pages of prestigious newspapers and telling minorities to change their names on camera.
“What shocks me most,” said Daniel Schneidermann, a French media analyst, “is the general confusion, which allows his discourse to be one among the others.”

Our freedom from government interference – our freedom to speak, to campaign and to operate as we please outside of the reach of the state – is under constant assault today. A recent report from the grandly named Tony Blair Institute for Global Change, titled New Policy Responses to Stop Hate Crime, is just the latest example of this.
Its suggestions for further restrictions on what we can say about people’s religion are bad enough, and blur the line between anti-religious speech and blatantly racist speech. But the proposals about hate groups are even more disconcerting. Put bluntly, the report’s complaint is that the government does not have enough powers to make life difficult for organisations that promote views we don’t like, and so it ought to award itself some more.
The problem, as the institute sees it, is this: too many groups, such as Britain First or Generation Identity, promote odious ideas, but remain annoyingly non-violent. Which means they cannot just be summarily banned under current anti-terror legislation that allows for the censorship of violence-inciting speech. The institute’s modest proposal to deal with this alleged difficulty is a ‘new tier of hate-group designation’, which could be proudly announced as the ‘first of its kind in Europe’.
Available by Home Office fiat, such designations would be based on the fairly vague claim that a group might ‘demonise specific groups on the basis of their race, religious [faith], gender, nationality or sexuality’, or be guilty of ‘disproportionately blaming specific groups (based on religion, race, gender or nationality) for broader societal issues’. Or they might be regarded as ‘aligning with extremist ideologies, though not inciting violence’.
What would be the impact on a group that was designated as hateful? The report is short on detail, but it speaks in terms of such groups ‘not [being] allowed to use media outlets or speak at universities’, and not being allowed to ‘engage, work with or for public institutions’. They would be ‘suspended from the electoral roll’. (This is an odd phrase showing, perhaps, evidence of over-hasty writing. Presumably, it means the groups would be deregistered as political parties.) The designated groups would also be banned from holding any public marches at all.

This is all quite mild, the report insists. Group members would still, graciously, be allowed to meet in private. And any new offences to back up the proposed prohibition on hate groups would be ‘civil, not criminal’. Oh, and there would be an incitement to virtue, too. Groups might be given back their privileges, rather like errant schoolboys who showed good behaviour, if they mended their ways and became more enlightened.
Where to start with all this? The first thing to note is that these measures are envisaged as applying to organisations operating entirely within the law. What we are talking about here is the introduction of powers to impose severe restrictions on the activities of lawful groups; groups that are neither violent nor dedicated to criminal activity.
Despite the report’s protestations, the restrictions are severe. Preventing a group from taking part in any procession, excluding it from addressing students and banning it from democratic activity as a political party are essentially telling that group that it may only operate in private.
It gets worse. Consider the words ‘not allowed to use media outlets’. Are broadcasters now to be automatically penalised by Ofcom if they publicise the views of a government-disapproved body? Will we reach the position of old Eastern European dictatorships and punish newspapers for publishing material from specific groups? As for the comforting statement that any offences created would be civil not criminal, don’t be taken in. If anything, this would make it even easier to assert state control over certain political groups, as it would mean that fines could be levied and bans enforced without the need to prove guilt beyond reasonable doubt.

Think about what kind of activity might fall under the ban. What about a Christian evangelical group known for its strong views on transgenderism? Could it be driven from public life until it mended its ways? On the other side, what of pro-choice activists who regularly call out what they see as the medieval bigotry of the Catholic Church on reproductive matters, or a group of gay-rights supporters who attack the Koran for its uncompromising view on homosexuality? Might they be found guilty of disproportionately blaming a religious group for societal ills and find themselves banned?
We need to criticise and challenge proposals like these long before they become law.

“Scientists have found there is little evidence that eating red meat causes health problems.
The research, led by Dalhousie University and McMaster University in Canada, counters official guidance from the World Health Organization (WHO), which in 2015 labelled meat a carcinogenic.
The paper was based on the research of a 14-strong international team of specialists and published on Monday in Annals of Internal Medicine. Bradley Johnston, associate professor at Dalhousie University, said: “Based on the research, we cannot say with any certainty that eating red or processed meat causes cancer, diabetes or heart disease.”
The study’s author elaborated: “From 12 randomised controlled trials enrolling about 54,000 individuals, we did not find a statistically significant or an important association in the risk of heart disease, cancer or diabetes for those that consumed less red or processed meat.”
Johnston remarked on how this should affect meat-eaters’ diets, telling the BBC: “The right choice for the majority of people, but not everyone, is to continue their meat consumption.”
Some in the academic community praised the report’s rigour. Open University emeritus professor of applied statistics Kevin McConway said it was an “extremely comprehensive piece of work”. Professor David Spiegelhalter, from the University of Cambridge, said: “This rigorous, even ruthless, review does not find good evidence of important health benefits from reducing meat consumption. In fact, it does not find any good evidence at all.”
While Ian Johnson, a nutritional expert at the UK’s Quadram Institute, welcomed the findings, telling Reuters: “This study will, I hope, help to eliminate the incorrect impression… that some meat products are as carcinogenic as cigarette smoke, and to discourage dramatic media headlines claiming that ‘bacon is killing us’.”
The Guardian reported that most scientists said the methodology used was thorough; however, the majority of views published in the media were highly negative.
Professor Walter Willett from the Harvard TH Chan School of Public Health, who is a vegan, called the study “the most egregious abuse of evidence that I have ever seen”. His colleague Dr Frank Hu said it was “irresponsible and unethical to issue dietary guidelines that are tantamount to promoting meat consumption, even if there is still some uncertainty about the strength of the evidence”.
Oxford University’s Dr Marco Springmann called it “dangerously misguided”. Dr Giota Mitrou from the World Cancer Research Fund said the “public could be put at risk” if they accepted this research as fact and refused to cut down on their meat consumption.
The NHS advises that anyone eating more than 90g of red or processed meat a day to lower their intake to 70g; that is the equivalent of two rashers of bacon, one-and-a-half sausages, one-third of a half-a-pound of steak, or just five tablespoons of cooked mince. Public Health England has said that despite the research, they will not be reviewing their guidelines.
While some scientists have been pushing to stop meat consumption on the grounds that it is bad for one’s health, others have led with the angle that it must be reduced because of the so-called ‘climate emergency’. Last week, a British barrister called for meat to be considered a form of “ecocide” and made illegal.”

Migrant arrivals soar in Italy after lifting Salvini’s rescue-boat ban
More than 200 migrants have reportedly landed on Italian shores over the weekend, as the country embraces a “post-Salvini” era.
