Daily Links Post graphic

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

  1. British Ice Cream Seller Who Joined Islamic State in Syria Begging to Come Home (breitbart, Oct 1, 2019)
    https://www.breitbart.com/middle-east/2019/10/01/british-ice-cream-seller-who-joined-islamic-state-in-syria-begging-to-come-home/

“A British ice cream seller who fled to join the Islamic State (ISIS) in Syria five years ago is begging to come home because he misses his mother and his former life in Cardiff, Wales.

Aseel Muthana left Wales in February 2014 to join the jihadist group along with his brother Nasser and another friend, Reeyad Khan. His family feared he had been killed, but Muthana has resurfaced at a northern Syria prison camp and is now pleading to come home.

All three were featured in one of the first propaganda videos ISIS used to attract western recruits.

Muthana, who is now 22 years old, claimed in an ITV interview that he joined ISIS and traveled to Syria to “help the poor.”

“Back then when I first came to ISIS, you have to understand I came way before the caliphate was pronounced,” he said. “Before all of these beheading videos, before all of the burnings happened, before any of that stuff.”

“We came when ISIS propaganda and ISIS media was all about helping the poor, helping the Syrian people,” Muthana added.

The widely publicized ISIS beheadings came later in 2014 when ISIS militants beheaded journalist James Foley and others, broadcasting their murders in widely disseminated propaganda videos.

Nasser Muthana, Aseel’s brother, appeared in one of those propaganda videos in 2014 where he said, “The UK is afraid I’ve come back with the skills I’ve acquired.” It is unclear what Nasser’s fate has been since then.

Khan was killed in a drone strike in 2015. Muthana is currently in a secret Syrian prison along with 5,000 inmates inside its packed cells.”

  2. Schiff staffer made August visit to Ukraine for think tank backed by Hunter Biden’s old employer

Ukraine Mystery: Schiff Staffer Made August Visit for Think Tank Backed by Hunter Biden’s Old Employer

A staffer for Rep. Adam Schiff’s House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence took a trip to Ukraine last month sponsored and organized by the Atlantic Council think tank.

The Atlantic Council is funded by and routinely works in partnership with Burisma, the natural gas company at the center of allegations regarding Joe Biden and his son, Hunter Biden.

The Schiff staffer, Thomas Eager, is also currently one of 19 fellows at the Atlantic Council’s Eurasia Congressional Fellowship, a bipartisan program that says it “educates congressional staff on current events in the Eurasia region.”

  3. Did Joe Biden implicate Barack Obama in Ukraine quid pro quo scandal?
    Matt Margolis, PJ Media

[Ed. – Will the House look into the former president’s potential involvement, or do they only investigate Republican presidents?]

Barack Obama has not been shy when it comes to criticizing his successor, but he’s been MIA when it comes to defending his former vice president, Joe Biden. He was conspicuously silent when Joe Biden faced allegations of racism for his past opposition to busing and working with segregationist Democrats. Biden clearly survived the temporary controversy because, I suspect, most people deep down recognize that Biden is not a racist.

But this Ukraine business is another matter entirely. Obama could be out there contradicting allegations of impropriety — in fact, he should be because his own vice president has been accused of a quid pro quo. Obama may want to be neutral in the 2020 Democratic primary, but his administration has a fresh quid pro quo allegation and Obama remains tight-lipped about it.

  4. Multi-BRANCH effort appears to have been behind suspect change to ‘whistleblower’ standard
Matt Beebe, Federalist September 30, 2019

[Ed. – As in, not just the executive branch but the legislative branch, in the form of the Congressional Research Service. The CRS’s role wouldn’t have been to justify the change (from a requirement for first-hand knowledge to allowing hearsay allegations). It would have been to influence Congress’s view of the “whistleblower” allegations’ validity. This is an essential read.]

Deleted Firsthand Knowledge Requirement For Whistleblowers Implicates Another Federal Agency
Was the ‘nonpartisan’ Congressional Research Service weaponized to force the House into a premature impeachment inquiry?
    Matt Beebe
    By Matt Beebe
    September 30, 2019

Sean Davis wrote Friday about a secret update to the intelligence community inspector general’s “Disclosure of Urgent Concern” complaint intake form. It revamped the procedure to allow hearsay complaints, while prior versions of the form had included an admonishment that the IC IG could not find a complaint credible without “reliable, first-hand information.” While it appears the IC IG has the statutory right to promulgate new procedures, the rationale for the change and the curious nature of the timing has still not been shared.

UNHINGED: Maxine Waters Calls For President Trump to be “Imprisoned and Placed in Solitary Confinement”

Democrat Rep. Maxine Waters (CA) took her ‘impeach Trump’ rhetoric to the next level on Tuesday morning and called for the President to be “imprisoned and placed in solitary confinement.”

Maxine Waters is the Chairwoman of the Financial Services Committee and she is currently leading an investigation into Trump’s finances — now she’s calling for Trump’s First Amendment rights to be taken away and for him to be locked up like violent criminal without even naming a crime.

Maxine Waters is dangerous and should be removed as Chairwoman of the Financial Services Committee.

MAXINE WATERS: I’m calling on the GOP to stop Trump’s filthy talk of whistleblowers being spies & using mob language implying they should be killed. Impeachment is not good enough for Trump. He needs to be imprisoned & placed in solitary confinement. But for now, impeachment is the imperative.

  7. DEVELOPING: DOJ Refuses to Produce Brady Material Requested by Flynn Attorney Sidney Powell – Seeks to go Immediately to Sentencing

Deep State DOJ lawyers stepped up their prosecutorial misconduct on Tuesday in a court filing in response to a motion filed by Flynn’s lawyer Sidney Powell.

General Mike Flynn’s attorney Sidney Powell on Monday filed a supplement status report in response to the conclusion of the case against Flynn’s former business associate Bijan Rafiekian.

Last week, in a major blow to the DOJ National Security Division, a federal judge tossed out a conviction against General Flynn’s former lobbying partner, Bijan Rafiekian.

A federal jury in July found General Flynn’s associate Bijan Rafiekian guilty of illegally lobbying for Turkey after just 4 hours of deliberation — but Federal Judge Anthony Trenga, a George W. Bush appointee, dismissed the indictment because of ‘insufficient evidence to sustain the conviction.’

“The evidence was insufficient as a matter of law for the jury to convict Rafiekian on either count,” Judge Trenga wrote in a 39-page memorandum last Tuesday.

  8. Secretary of State Pompeo Says State Dept. Officials Will Not Testify Next Week Before House Show Trials on Impeachment

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo pushed back on the House Democrats on Tuesday in their committee show trials on President Trump’s impeachment.

Pompeo told Demcratic Chairman Eliot Engel that no State Department officials will testify in the House show trials.

Secretary Pompeo told the Democrats, “I’m concerned with aspects of the Committee’s request that can be understood only as an attempt to intimidate, bully, & treat improperly the distinguished professionals of the Department of State.”

“Insurgents conducted attacks against two military posts in the Mopti region of Mali near the border with Burkina Faso, killing at least two civilians and burning 22 vehicles, the army and local officials said.

Two military posts were attacked early Monday, September 30, the Malian Armed Forces (FAMa) tweeted. A post at Mondoro was attacked around at 1 a.m, followed by an assault on a post at Boulkessi – also spelled Boulkessy – at 4:30 a.m., FAMa said. Boulkessi is around 70 km (40 miles) east of Mondoro.

    https://thedefensepost.com/2019/10/01/afghanistan-taliban-police-headquarters-shortepa-balkh/

“At least 11 police officers were killed and over a dozen captured on Tuesday, October 1 when Taliban fighters stormed their headquarters in northern Afghanistan, officials said.

A column of more than 400 Taliban fighters on motorbikes attacked Shortepa district police headquarters in Balkh province in the early hours, triggering a lengthy gunfight, provincial spokesman Munir Farhad told AFP.

“Eleven policemen were killed in the attack. The Taliban also suffered heavy losses,” he said.

Karim Khan, district chief in Shortepa, also spelled Shor Tepa, told AFP the Taliban had captured 13 other police officers and set the headquarters’ buildings on fire before leaving the area.

In a statement, the Taliban claimed responsibility, saying their fighters had overrun the district.

The attack comes days after millions of Afghans went to the polls to vote for their next president, despite hundreds of Taliban bombings and small-scale attacks at polling stations.

But officials have praised the Afghan security forces for preventing the Taliban from conducting any large-scale attacks.”

    https://www.middleeastmonitor.com/20191001-daesh-makes-resurgence-in-syria-captures-town-attacks-kurdish-and-russia-forces/

“Daesh has conducted manoeuvres to make a resurgence in Syria today by besieging Russian and regime forces, attacking a prominent Kurdish militia and capturing a town in the east of the country, fulfilling recent predictions of the extremist group’s recuperation in the conflict.

Daesh militants attacked a gathering of regime militias and Russian special forces in the ancient town of Palmyra through the use of a booby-trapped car filled with explosives, as well as surrounding a Russian convoy and besieging it. The militant group’s own media outlet named Amaq News Agency then allegedly reported that planes launched heavy shelling on its positions in an attempt to break the siege.

In the Raqqa countryside – home to Daesh’s former capital – the group claimed responsibility for killing and wounding five members of the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in an attack on the militia’s positions. A Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) vehicle was also reportedly destroyed by an explosive device near the town of Haws.

In what is the most determinative operation undertaken by the group, however, Daesh has captured and taken full control of the town of Al-Sukhna in the eastern countryside of Homs governate following a series of battles and skirmishes with regime militias in the area. According to Amaq News Agency, Daesh originally took control of Al-Sukhna on Sunday before withdrawing under the pressure of Russian air strikes, but retook control of the town today. Twenty regime militia members were allegedly killed during its recapture, and regime forces continue to be pushed out of the town’s surroundings…”

  20. Nigerian Police Rescue 19 Pregnant Women, Girls from “Baby Factories” (mwn, Oct 1, 2019)
    https://www.moroccoworldnews.com/2019/10/283798/nigerian-police-pregnant-women-baby-factories/

“Nigerian police have raided multiple properties suspected of being illegal maternity homes, or “baby factories,” in Lagos.

Nigerian news outlet Vanguard reported that 19 women and girls were rescued on September 19. They had arrived in Lagos expecting employment, but were abducted and forced into prostitution.

The women and girls, aged between 15 and 28, were raped until they became pregnant.

Their babies were to be sold: Males would be sold for $1,400 and females for $830.

The whereabouts of several trafficked babies were traced to Lagos residences and rescued on September 28. At the time of writing, four have been recovered.

Two women who had posed as nurses were arrested in the raid, while the head of the operation fled the scene.

Nigerian police stated that the rescued women, girls, and babies have been rehoused and are being rehabilitated.

“Baby factories” are unfortunately not unheard of in Nigeria, where some see children as a commodity.

In April 2018, more than 160 children were rescued from a similar operation in Lagos. Some had been sexually abused.

In 2013, police rescued 17 pregnant teenagers that had been impregnated by one man. 11 babies were also recovered.

“Local newspapers sometimes report the discovery of corpses of children abandoned in bushes or highways with their vital organs missing,” the BBC reported in 2013. “Fresh placentas and aborted foetuses are also known to be up for sale.”

During the 2013 crackdown on “baby factories,” the local government of Imo in south east Nigeria revoked all licenses of the state’s orphanages and foster homes. What followed was a rigorous accreditation process which aimed to distinguish “baby factories” from legitimate shelters and fostering centers.

Unfortunately, some “baby factories” continue to operate, and vulnerable populations in Nigeria are still victimized by a high demand for children.”
