Five women botched Notre-Dame car bomb terror plot by ‘using wrong fuel’ to light fuse, Paris court hears
Two women who sought to blow up a home-made car bomb outside Notre-Dame cathedral only failed because they tried to set it on fire with “the wrong type of fuel”, a Paris court has heard.
In the first high-profile case involving female jihadists in France, the women stand accused of seeking to detonate gas cylinders in the boot of their car outside the famed cathedral three years ago.
The country was reeling at the time from a wave of Islamist terror attacks, which have since 2015 killed over 250 people.
Two of the women, who both pledged allegiance to Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (Isil), risk life in prison for their alleged roles in the plot, with another two allegedly accomplices facing the same sentence for later trying to help one of the women escape.
A fifth woman faces a possible 30-year sentence, while a sixth is being tried for failing to alert authorities to the planned attack.
The women were seized after an empty Peugeot 607 sedan was found parked near the square outside Notre-Dame frequented by thousands of tourists.
Police swooped on them after a bar employee noticed a gas cylinder in the back seat. That cylinder was empty but five full ones were discovered in the car boot.
Prosecutors say in 2016 on the night of September 3-4, Ines Madani and Ornella Gilligmann parked the car after sending a video claiming responsibility for the planned attack to Rachid Kassim, a notorious French member of Isil.
They said the pair had doused the car with diesel fuel and tried to set it alight with a cigarette, but failed because diesel is not easily flammable.
“Only the wrong choice of fuel… caused this attempt to fail,” said investigating magistrates.
Gilligmann was arrested in southern France while seeking to flee, and Madani holed up in an apartment in the Paris suburb of Essonne that belonged to Amel Sakaou, who is also on trial.
They were soon joined by alleged accomplice Sarah Hervouet.
The group were arrested a few days later after trying to leave the apartment armed with kitchen knives. Hervouet stabbed one officer in the shoulder, while Madani was shot in the leg.
The failed attack is thought to have been piloted by Kassim, mainly via the Telegram app.
Kassim, who is being tried in absentia, is also suspected of directing the brutal murder of a police couple outside their home in June 2016, a killing that was broadcast live on Facebook, and another in which an elderly priest’s throat was cut.
He is believed to have been killed in a coalition airstrike near the Iraqi city of Mosul in February 2017.

Calif. Police Officer Loses High Speed Chase when Battery of His Electric Cruiser Dies
California police officer lost a suspect in traffic after the battery in his electric patrol car conked out before he was able to nab the crook he was chasing in a high-speed chase.
A recording of police radio calls shows that a Fremont, California, officer was chasing a suspect at speeds of upwards to 120 miles per hour. But the chase did not go well for the police, according to the Mercury News.
As the chase neared its end, the officer called in to his dispatcher to ask for another officer to follow up on the chase because the battery of his Tesla Model S patrol car was about to die.

From everything I am hearing the vast majority of those moving are Republicans, the Red States are getting Redder and the Blue States are getting Bluer. The dreams/delusions of the left that those who are leaving are Dems that are going to shift Red States Blue is wrong. The left knows this and that is why they are fighting to keep the citizenship question off of the census. The number of Representatives given to a State is suppose to be decided by the number of voters in each State. Since the voters who are leaving the Blue States are lowering the number of Representatives those States get. The Dems want the non citizens to be counted so their “Sanctuary” States and Cities can get more Representatives in Congress for them and strip some away from the States with a much lower population of illegals but a much higher population of citizens.
Also as the Repub income producers leave the Cities the income disparity between the Red and Blue districts will grow smaller. Right now the high tax states in the North West are complaining about the number of tax payers that are leaving to go to lower tax states. As the digital economy grows and more people work at hope they will be able to move to low tax states and still do their jobs in the big companies.

“Human Rights Watch (HRW) yesterday accused the Iraqi Appeals Courts of either ignoring allegations of torture or relying on uncorroborated confessions.
In a recent report, HRW said: “Some of the torture allegations had been substantiated by forensic medical exams and some of the confessions were unsubstantiated by any other evidence and were apparently extracted by force, including by torture.”
“Our investigation into a large number of Iraq’s court rulings found what may be repeated miscarriages of justice in terrorism cases,” said Lama Fakih, acting Middle East director at Human Rights Watch. “How can Iraqi lawyers and counterterrorism judges stand by and watch this unfold?”
She added: “This investigation shows that detainees in Iraq face a significant risk of unfair trial at every stage of the criminal justice process.”
“The High Judicial Council needs to take a very close look at the terrorism-related decisions of the criminal committee.”
The rights group called on member states of the Global Coalition To Defeat ISIS (Daesh) that they “should agree not to transfer ISIS suspects from Syria to Iraq until the Iraqi justice system can ensure that criminal prosecutions meet international fair trial standards and until the government imposes a death penalty moratorium.”

Intelligence agencies have warned of plans by al-Qaeda and Islamic State to attack Jewish and Israeli communities in India during their holiday season in September and October.
