Images of Kashmiri Man Tortured by Indian Army Revealed to Be Scenes From Hindi TV Series (sputniknews, Sep 20, 2019)

“A series of pictures making the rounds on social media, claiming to be of a Kashmiri journalist being tortured by the Indian Army, has actually turned out to be still shots from an Indian TV series.
This comes after former Pakistani envoy to India Abdul Basit was ridiculed by social media users for sharing a screengrab from a pornographic film of Johnny Sins mistaking it to be a Kashmiri man who lost his vision by pallet gun.
As per the findings of AFP Fact Check, a global news agency, the viral images on internet are from the Indian TV series “Meri Aashiqui Tumse Hi”.
The images are part of a scene showing protagonist Shakti Arora being beaten by police in prison.
The images were widely shared on social media on 28 August, in a bid to put down the Indian Army and to highlight the “torture” inflicted upon Kashmiris as security forces have been deployed there to prevent any untoward incident following the Indian Parliament’s decision to abrogate Kashmir’s special status.
The misleading post, claiming to be of Kashmiri journalist Fahad Bhat read: “Last night Indian Army arrested Kashmiri Journalist ‘Fahad Bhat’ from his home. They are torturing him. World has time for Amazon Forests but no time for Kashmiris. WHY?”…”

France terror threat: Warning issued as ‘homegrown jihadis’ remain huge concern (express, Sep 19, 2019)
https://www.express.co.uk/news/world/1180146/france-news-france-terror-threat-ISIS-france-islamic-extremism-terrorist
“FRANCE remains on terror alert with the country’s threat level from Islamic extremist groups “unchanged,” Deputy Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez said this week. A recent UN report warned the current abatement of terrorist violence may soon end, with a fresh wave of attacks on western targets possible before the end of the year.
However, M Nuñez warned the threat “has not diminished”. He told FranceInfo radio: “Unfortunately, the threat level remains unchanged.” The UK Foreign Office has also warned “terrorists are very likely to try to carry out attacks in France”. M Nuñez said “homegrown” jihadists inspired by the Islamic State (Isis) group’s ideology remained the biggest security threat to France, stoking fresh concerns over the organisation’s ability to wield influence even after its territorial defeat in Iraq and Syria.
“The greatest threat is the so-called homegrown threat by radicalised individuals based in France. These are people who obey ISIS and are inspired by its propaganda,” he said, adding that would-be jihadists were most likely to launch low-tech knife and vehicle attacks.
US-backed forces pushed Isis out its remaining territory in March.
Hundreds of foreign fighters are now being held in detention camps while western governments try and work out what to do with them.
France has so far refused to take back citizens who joined the group’s so-called “caliphate,” insisting adults captured in Iraq or Syria should face trial locally despite the risk of capital punishment.
M Nuñez added western states should “remain prudent” amid claims Isis has strengthened its insurgent capabilities in Iraq and is re-surging in Syria.
It is crucial for western governments to “track” their movements, he said…”

“The armed forces are now taking part in the Government’s de-radicalisation Prevent programme with soldiers urged to report comrades with extremist far right tendencies, it emerged on Thursday.
The move comes after a British army corporal, who had served in Afghanistan, was convicted last year of being a member of the banned far right National Action group.

Hungarian Minister: With Salvini Europe Was Safe (breitbart, Sep 20, 2019)
https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2019/09/20/hungarian-minister-with-salvini-europe-was-safe/
“Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjártó has come out against the new Italian leftist coalition government, stating that the borders of Europe were safer when Matteo Salvini was in office.
The 40-year-old minister spoke out about the new coalition’s move to reopen Italy’s ports to migrant transport NGOs, saying Italy had been successful stopping illegal migration with Salvini as interior minister and the change of government had led to a shift which he felt regret over, Il Giornale reports.
The Hungarian added that the move to open the ports was “deplorable and dangerous” and said that Italy has sent a signal to migrants overseas to “march for Europe”.
Szijjártó praised former populist interior minister Matteo Salvini, who leads the League (Lega) party, saying he had “contributed to giving more security to Europe” during his time as minister.
“Illegal immigration can be stopped. It is a lie to say that containing flows is impossible and that we need to think about redistribution. Salvini has shown that if there is the will to block landings it can be done,” he said.
Last weekend, Salvini spoke to a crowd of around 80,000 people in the small town of Pontida, promising to enact referendums if the leftist coalition opened the borders.
The European Union has proposed a new redistribution system, but Szijjártó said he and the Hungarians are still against such a policy, stating: “The right response to the migration crisis is not to open borders and distribute illegal migrants on the basis of quotas. On the contrary, borders must be defended.”
According to a Greek newspaper, the EU is even considering removing certain countries from the Schengen free movement zone which do not accept redistributed migrants.
Earlier this week, Szijjártó slammed the European Union’s border agency, Frontex, in an interview with German paper Die Welt, saying: “Frontex is a travel agency. Rather, those countries that have an external EU border should also protect them.””

“Two reporters for the U.S.-based Bloomberg news agency have appeared in court accused of trying to undermine Turkey’s economic stability with a story they wrote on last year’s currency crisis.
The trial against Kerim Karakaya and Fercan Yalinkilic opened in Istanbul on Friday. Thirty-six others have also been charged for their social media comments on the story written in August 2018, increasing concerns over media freedoms in Turkey.
The trial is part of a fierce crackdown on journalists and media outlets. The Turkish Journalists Syndicate says at least 126 journalists or media workers are currently in prison.
Karakaya and Yalinkilic face up to five-year jail terms if convicted.
Bloomberg has condemned the prosecution and defended the pair, saying they reported “fairly and accurately on newsworthy events.””

Migrant shooting highlights concern about Libyan coast guard (abcnews, Sep 20, 2019)
https://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/migrant-dies-shooting-returned-libya-65738554
“The death of a Sudanese man from a gunshot wound after a group of migrants fled from guards taking them to a detention center in Libya is raising fresh, troubling questions about the plight of people caught in the conflict-torn country and the role of the European Union-trained Libyan coast guard.
The 28-year-old man was one of several migrants picked up by the Libyan coast guard in waters that are part of a vast search area the country registered last year under an EU-backed plan to hand off control of Mediterranean Sea rescues to Libya and to stop people setting out for Europe.
His death comes two months after 53 migrants were killed in an airstrike on the Tajoura detention center in Libya. The center is still operating despite deep concern about the arbitrary detention in appalling conditions of migrants trying to reach Europe to escape conflict, persecution and poverty.
Some 5,000 men, women and children are being detained in Libya, more than 3,000 in active conflict zones, according to the IOM.
The latest incident happened Thursday after the coast guard returned a group of migrants to shore at Tripoli’s Abusitta disembarkation area. The man was shot in the stomach after armed men fired into the air when several of a group of 103 migrants under guard tried to escape, according to the International Organization for Migration. An IOM doctor treated the man at the scene but he died two hours later in a local clinic.
“This was a tragedy waiting to happen,” IOM spokesman Leonard Doyle said of the latest death. “The use of live bullets against unarmed vulnerable civilians, men, women and children alike, is unacceptable under any circumstances and raises alarms over the safety of migrants and humanitarian staff.”
The arrival in 2015 of well over 1 million people — most of them Syrians and Iraqis fleeing war — sparked a major crisis in Europe as countries bickered over how best to manage the migrants. While they worked with Turkey on a deal to stop people entering from the east, the Europeans, led by Italy, also began channeling millions of euros into Libya.
The effort was ramped up in 2017 even though the EU itself acknowledges that 4,000 to 7,000 people were detained in 24 centers run by Libya’s Department for Combatting Illegal Migration and that even more were being kept off the grid.
“Armed groups hold migrants in an unknown number of unofficial detention centers across the country. Migrants and refugees do not undergo any kind of formal registration and don’t have access to legal process before and while being in detention,” notes an EU action plan drawn up to help manage migrant flows through Libya.
“Conditions in detention are generally inhumane: severely overcrowded, without adequate access to toilets or washing facilities, food, or clean water. In several detention centers, migrants are held in large numbers in a single room without sufficient space to lie down.”
At least 46 million euros ($51 million) were earmarked for the Libyan coast guard. Through its flagship anti-smuggling naval effort Operation Sophia — currently more flag than ship, since Italy’s anti-migrant government withdrew permission for naval vessels to take part — the EU has trained coast guard personnel.
In a move not widely announced, in June last year Libya, with European encouragement, registered a massive search-and-rescue area in the Mediterranean with the International Maritime Organization. The zone reaches out around 160 kilometers (100 miles) — deep into international waters and about halfway to the Italian island of Lampedusa, where many migrants head when they leave the Libyan coast for Europe.
Aid groups say almost all rescue emergencies happen in international waters about 50 kilometers (30 miles) off the Libyan coast. That means they are obliged to contact the coast guard there first.
“They simply unilaterally declared they would be coordinating activities,” Hassiba Hadj-Sahraoui, humanitarian affairs adviser at Doctors Without Borders (MSF) told The Associated Press. “Considering the capacity of the coastguard, it’s a huge portion of the Mediterranean Sea that they’re supposed to take responsibility for.
“We had experiences where, when we called the Libyan authorities they would not pick up the phone, they would not answer even if there is an obligation to be available 24 hours a day and in English,” she said. “We would call Italy and then the Libyans would pick up the phone.”
Another aid group told AP that they best way they found to reach the Libyan coast guard in an emergency was to send an email.
Hadj-Sahraoui said the Libyans tell them to take people to Tripoli, but bound by international law MSF cannot return migrants to strife-torn Libya. But Malta and Italy say the rescues are not their responsibility either, and Rome has warned that the crew of any rescue ship entering its waters could face fines and jail.
The Libyans have 29 “naval assets,” according to a classified Operation Sophia report obtained by AP. Six are operated by the navy. In the summer of 2018, they were at sea about 10 times per week.
The report says they “need to be sustained not only with the presence of a maritime security provider in the area … but also with training, equipment and maintenance.” It remains to be seen whether Italy’s new government will allow warships to return to sea with the operation, even though European surveillance planes and drones continue to help the Libyan coast guard find migrants from the air.
Migration agency officials are concerned that the coast guard is no longer getting its orders from the weak, U.N.-backed government and that militias and rogue commanders are operating some ships, possibly even refitting them for battle. Meanwhile, the conflict involving militias around Tripoli in the west and the self-styled Libyan National Army led by Gen. Khalifa Hifter in the east drags on.”

Uptick seen in rare mosquito-borne virus in some US states
The number of U.S. deaths and illnesses from a rare mosquito-borne virus are higher than usual this year, health officials report.
Eastern equine encephalitis has been diagnosed in 21 people in six states, and five people have died. The infection is only being seen in certain counties within a small number of states.
The U.S. each year has seen seven illnesses and three deaths, on average.
It’s not clear why numbers are up this year, but for some reason cases seem to spike once every several years, Dr. Mark Fischer, an expert at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, said Wednesday.
Most infections occur in the summer, so health officials do not think it will get much worse.
Massachusetts has eight cases, followed by Michigan, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New Jersey and North Carolina.

Secret F.B.I. Subpoenas Scoop Up Personal Data From Scores of Companies
September 20, 2019 11:18 am
ENM NEWS

The F.B.I. has used secret subpoenas to obtain personal data from far more companies than previously disclosed, newly released documents show.
The requests, which the F.B.I. says are critical to its counterterrorism efforts, have raised privacy concerns for years but have been associated mainly with tech companies. Now, records show how far beyond Silicon Valley the practice extends — encompassing scores of banks, credit agencies, cellphone carriers and even universities.
The demands can scoop up a variety of information, including usernames, locations, IP addresses and records of purchases. They don’t require a judge’s approval and usually come with a gag order, leaving them shrouded in secrecy. Fewer than 20 entities, most of them tech companies, have ever revealed that they’ve received the subpoenas, known as national security letters.
The documents, obtained by the Electronic Frontier Foundation through a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit and shared with The New York Times, shed light on the scope of the demands — more than 120 companies and other entities were included in the filing — and raise questions about the effectiveness of a 2015 law that was intended to increase transparency around them.
“This is a pretty potent authority for the government,” said Stephen Vladeck, a law professor at the University of Texas who specializes in national security. “The question is: Do we have a right to know when the government is collecting information on us?”

Chinese scientists develop handheld sonic weapon for crowd control
China has developed the world’s first portable sonic gun for riot
control, the Chinese Academy of Sciences said.
The rifle-shaped instrument, which was jointly developed with military and law enforcement, is designed to disperse crowds using focused waves of low frequency sound, the academy’s Technical Institute of Physics and Chemistry website said on Wednesday.
The device’s “biological effect” would cause extreme discomfort, with vibrations in the eardrums, eyeballs, stomach, liver, and brain, scientists said.
Studies dating to the 1940s found that low frequency sound energy could, depending upon intensity and exposure, cause dizziness, headaches, vomiting, bowel spasms, involuntary defecation, organ damage and heart attacks.

Iran: We are prepared for ‘all out war’
OAN Newsroom
UPDATED 9:13 AM PT — Thursday, September 19, 2019
The foreign minister of Iran waters the seeds of war amid reports Tehran was behind the Saudi oil facility attacks. During an interview Thursday, Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said Iran is prepared for a “all out war” if any nation were to strike.
Zarif also doubled down on Iran’s position that it had no involvement in the strike on the Aramco site. When asked, however, Zarif couldn’t provide any evidence otherwise. The minister went on to say Iran has nothing to gain from attacking Saudi Arabia and wants stability in the region.
Moving forward, Zarif said Iran would only consider talks with the U.S. if they are given full sanctions relief.

‘Save our future’: Striking students demand global climate action
SYDNEY/BANGKOK/BERLIN (Reuters) – Hundreds of thousands of students, office workers and other protesters took to the streets around the world on Friday to demand global leaders gathering for a U.N. climate summit take urgent action to avert an environmental catastrophe.
The global climate strike kicked off in the Pacific islands – some of the nations most threatened by rising sea levels – and followed the rising sun through Australia, Japan, Southeast Asia and into Europe, Africa and the Middle East.
Social media posts showed scores of demonstrations, ranging from a few dozen primary school children in Abuja, Nigeria, to tens of thousands of people in cities from Hamburg, in Germany, to Melbourne, Australia.
Greta Thunberg, the 16-year-old Swedish activist who has inspired the movement, noted in a tweet the “huge crowd” in Sydney, which she said would set the standard for strikes and protests planned in about 150 countries.
“Our future on your shoulders,” read one banner stretched across a street by students in Berlin.

Sudden ‘Trump phone call/whistleblower’ theme looks desperate and preemptive
By J.E. Dyer September 20, 2019
Blowing up seemingly out of nowhere, a supposed “whistleblower” case has gone from zero to 60 in nothing flat in Washington this week. For a few brief days, it was a mystery what the case was purportedly about. On Thursday afternoon, the rumors coalesced around a single theme: the “whistleblower” had told the intelligence community inspector general (ICIG) about contacts between President Trump and his Ukrainian counterpart, President Volodymyr Zelensky, in which a supposedly inappropriate “promise” of some kind was made.
Additional reports on Thursday afternoon produced an almost laughably scripted-looking “Aha!” resolution, seemingly suggesting that the inappropriate “promise” was to release military aid to Ukraine if Ukraine would play ball in some way on an investigation of Hunter Biden and his appointment to the board of a Ukrainian oil and gas company, Burisma, in 2014.
I say this because one particular news item had no sooner dropped – a report that $250 million in military aid had been approved by Congress “after White House delay” (but see below) – than the “Aha!” tweets started erupting all over Twitter.

Iran Will Destroy Saudi Arabia and UAE In Case Of War – Hezbollah Leader (sputniknews, Sep 20, 2019)
https://sputniknews.com/middleeast/201909201076853380-iran-will-destroy-saudi-arabia-and-uae-in-case-of-war—hezbollah-leader/
“Tensions in the Middle East escalated after a recent attack on Saudi refineries that crippled the country’s crude output. The US has accused Iran of the act, despite Yemen’s Houthis claiming responsibility, and is reportedly mulling a military response to the attack on its ally. Tehran has warned that such a move could lead to war.
Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah has warned Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) that dire consequences await them in the event that a confrontation with Iran takes place.
“Don’t bet on a war against Iran because they will destroy you. Your house is made of glass and your economy is made of glass. Like the glass cities in the UAE”, Nasrallah said.

SAUDIS, ISRAEL ATTACK PRO-IRAN MILITIAS ON SYRIA-IRAQ BORDER – REPORT
“Saudi fighter jets have been spotted along with other fighter jets that have attacked facilities and positions belonging to Iranian militias.”
Both Israel and Saudi Arabia have been blamed for recent air strikes targeting pro-Iranian militias in the Albukamal area of Syria near the border with Iraq, according to Arab media. The attacks resulted in a number of deaths and injuries and the destruction of weapon storage facilities and rocket launchers.
“Saudi fighter jets have been spotted along with other fighter jets that have attacked facilities and positions belonging to Iranian militias,” said an unnamed source to the Independent in Arabic. The attacks targeted positions belonging to the Quds force of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps in Albukamal and other areas near the Iraq-Syria border.
According to the source, it is believed that Iran was about to use the facilities to hit other targets after targeting the Saudi Aramco oil facilities on Saturday. The source added that the Global Coalition Against Terrorism has started targeting not just ISIS, but also other groups such as the Quds Force, as well as various Iraqi and Iranian militias active in Syria, Iraq and other areas.
Saudi sources later denied the report, according to the Independent.
Pro-Iranian militias in Albukamal in Syria near the Iraqi border have been targeted by multiple air strikes since Monday night, resulting in at least 15 deaths, according to Arab media.
On Wednesday, five people were killed and another nine were wounded in an air strike carried out by unidentified aircraft that targeted positions of the Iranian-backed Iraqi Popular Mobilization Forces militia in Albukamal, according to Sky News Arabia.
After the strike on Wednesday, the PMF in the town of Al-Qaim in Iraq near the Syrian border began to take precautionary measures in anticipation of an air strike, including not assembling in large groups and the deployment of heavy weapons near some sites.

Poll: Salvini Now Most Trusted Political Leader in Italy (breitbart, Sep 20, 2019)
https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2019/09/20/salvini-now-most-trusted-political-leader-italy/
“Italy’s populist ex-interior minister Matteo Salvini is now the most trusted political leader in the country, according to polling.
The League (Lega) leader scored a 40 per cent trust rating in the poll, beating current Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte, who received 39 per cent.
A further 48 per cent of the respondents said they had little to no confidence in the new Five Star-Democratic Party government which Conte heads, Il Giornale reports.
Luigi Di Maio, leader of the Five Star Movement, was trusted by just 28 per cent of those polled, behind national-conservative Brothers of Italy (FdI) leader Giorgia Meloni on 29 per cent.
Meloni has slammed the new leftist coalition of the Five Stars and the Democratic Party (PD) and has demanded fresh elections.
At a recent demonstration in Rome, Meloni said: “Parliamentary Republic does not mean that the parliament can be organised against the people. They know they are doing something the Italians don’t want and because they know they can’t win a free competition in the elections, they steal it. They are thieves of democracy, thieves of sovereignty, thieves.”
The leader of the left-establishment Democratic Party, Nicola Zingaretti, saw even worse poll numbers, at just 23 per cent. Zingaretti has pushed for the reopening of Italy’s borders to NGOs operating migrant transport ships in the Mediterranean.
Previous polls have shown little support for the new Italian government, with just one in three members of the public expressing satisfaction with the leftist coalition.
According to a new Agorà poll, 48 per cent of the voters said they had little to no confidence in the coalition, while just 29 per cent said they did.
A majority said they thought Italy would now have less influence in Europe and said that the government would fail in its proposal to redistribute migrants to other European Union member-states.
Earlier this week, 130 migrants landed on the island of Lampedusa, amd tensions are growing at the island’s migrant reception centre.”

Small Town In Ireland Fights Back Against Open Borders
The small town of Oughterard in Ireland, with a population of only 1600 people, nearly unanimously protested against take in more “refugees.”
Under a direct provision the small rural town, already full to capacity, would be responsible for the housing and welfare of the “asylum seekers.”
Minister of State Sean Kyne was booed and heckled at a town meeting when he said Ireland were obliged under EU and United Nations laws to let in more “refugees.”

(Infowars) – Burger King in South Africa is dropping the word “ham” from “hamburger” to avoid offending Muslims.
Yes, really.
The “Double Spicy Hamburger” will now become just a “Double Spicy Burger,” while the “Triple Hamburger with Cheese” becomes the “Triple Burger with Cheese,” and a “Hamburger King Jr” on the children’s menu will now be just a “Kids Burger.”
The company, whose headquarters are based in Miami, Florida, said the word was being eliminated in order “to be more respectful of Muslim customers.”
