1. UK: ‘It’s terrible, very sad’ – church severely damaged in blaze battled by dozens of firefighters

(Somewhere there has to be an honest actuarial that is willing to speak on the frequency and locations of Church fires and offer a time line over the last 50 years)

Firefighters were called to St Mary’s Church in Wimbotsham, near Downham Market, just after 6am today (Wednesday, September 4).

The roof of the church, in Church Road, has collapsed and the building has been gutted by the fire.

4. Oz: Perth vegan demands neighbour stop cooking barbecues

A Perth vegan has taken her neighbours all the way to the Supreme Court, demanding they stop smoking, bouncing balls and even cooking barbecues in the backyard.
Cilla Carden, from Girrawheen, in Perth’s northern suburbs said she’s fed up with the smell of meat cooking on the barbecue next door.
“They’ve put it there so I smell fish, all I can smell is fish. I can’t enjoy my backyard, I can’t go out there.”

(There is a video at the link above, and here. But this feels a little more sinister than what it seems on the surface. This looks like what appears to be a huge push to stop people of European descent from eating or enjoying meat. Much like the mysterious but huge increase in the cost of meat in Canada recently. How did she get the money to take this PoS to the Supreme Court of Oz? Can anyone take a common and in this case, ludicrous complaint against a neighbour to the court? Notice on neighbour already voluntarily complied even with her most unreasonable demands. Yet its still going to the Supreme Court. A judgement in her favour could have massive consequences to freedom to eat and enjoy private property. In fact it’s an attack, not just on carnivores, but on the notion of private property. And this, is likely the real reason.)

5. Today was a very dark day for British democracy

The political class has taken back control – from the people.

Today has been a very dark day for democracy in the United Kingdom.

Don’t believe for one minute the self-aggrandising claims of the Remainer establishment and its noisy cheerleaders in the media. Tonight’s vote by MPs to seize control of the parliamentary agenda in order to prevent a No Deal Brexit is not, as they claim, a wonderful assertion of parliamentary sovereignty against a dictatorial executive led by Boris Johnson.

 

No, it is an assertion of the political elite’s arrogant authority over the people. If MPs have seized power from anyone this evening, it is from us, the public, the millions who voted to leave the EU. This is not parliament vs the executive – this is parliament vs the people, and it opens up one of the greatest, most troublesome constitutional crises of modern times.

In essence, this evening MPs have gone some way, almost all the way, to achieving the terrible thing they have been agitating for since June 2016: stopping Brexit. That is their fundamental aim. It is essential to understand that when they talk about ‘blocking No Deal’, they mean ‘blocking Brexit’.

As she states this is the Permanent State telling the voters that it is the bureaucrats who control the nation and who decide how much freedom we have not the voters. They permanent state consider themselves and the members of hte political class to be the new Nobles and Royals in a neo feudal system. we are the serfs in this syste.m.

    At a laboratory near Tel Aviv, Aleph Farms is growing steak from the stem cells of cows.

    “We can produce meat more efficiently in a way which is more ethical, more sustainable and healthier,” said Aleph Farms CEO Didier Toubia.

    “Right now, most of the agriculture is there to feed the animals,” said investor Erel Margalit. He said the planet will not sustain the way we currently eat.

    At SuperMeat, they extract stem cells from chickens. “The beauty with cell-based meat is that once you’ve established the cell bank you don’t need the chicken anymore,” CEO Ido Savir said. “So, theoretically, one chicken could feed the world.”

    A vegan himself, Savir thinks there’s also potential for consumers who object to killing an animal.

    And as to our taste of the future? It was surprisingly normal.

    • I can see where this could be used in settlements on the Moon or Mars but I don’t see it catching on anywhere else. Although I can’t help remembering the SF novels about the domed cities where people are forbidden to go outside and live off of good grown in vats. I can see where the followers of the Deep Ecology movement would want to put us into domed cities so we can’t contaminate the earth.

    • This is a far better future than breeding obese, incarcerated and halal-butchered animals.

      A piece of steak electrostimulated to effectively run five miles a day, will go well with genetically modified cancer-reducing peas and high fibre jacket potatoes.

  8. Peter Hitchens predicted a constitutional crisis before all this started, because, he said, a referendum has no standing constitutionally, if I remember him correctly. He said it would cause a crisis.

    According to the Spectator the front bench will be willing to vote for an election October 15, once the extension for Brexit has gone through the House of Lords, and Johnson will get a majority to get it done.

    Nigel Farage at a meeting of the Brexit Party said this would be very serious because the remainers were aiming to tie the hands of any future Government.
    But he also said that the BrexitPartyis ready for a General Election and they are ready for a fight, and that if good people in the Conservative and Labourparties are willing to work with them, they are prepared to put country ahead of the party.
    It’s not over yet.
