Daily Links Post graphic

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

  1. CLEVELAND, Ohio (WKBN) – An off-duty Cleveland police officer is being accused of having sex with and trying to kidnap a 12-year-old girl.

Prosecutors said the girl was waiting for the school bus in Euclid, Ohio on August 16 when 34-year-old Solomon Nhiwatiwa drove past with his car windows rolled down.

They said he asked if she needed a ride to school, but the girl said no and he drove away.

Prosecutors said he came back a minute later, parked his car, walked up to the victim, showed her his genitals and started urinating on her.

According to prosecutors, it looked like he was filming it with his cell phone.

    Nhiwatiwa is facing eight charges:

    – Attempted kidnapping (with sexual motivation)
    – Pandering obscenity involving a minor
    – Disseminating matter harmful to juveniles
    – Endangering children
    – Criminal child enticement
    – Public indecency
    – Assault
    – Attempted interference with custody

  2. Media Won’t Report That Tlaib And Omar’s Israel Trip Was Planned By A Pro-Terrorist Group
The establishment press must be getting quite a crick in its collective neck from having to look away so often from the antisemitic elements of the left, including within the Democratic Party.
    Warren Henry By Warren Henry
    AUGUST 19, 2019
Amid last week’s debate over whether Israel should have issued waivers to Democratic Reps. Rashida Tlaib and Ilhan Omar, and allowed them to promote the anti-Israel boycott, divestment, and sanctions (BDS) movement from within Israel, two scandals went largely unreported. The first scandal is that Tlaib and Omar’s trip was planned by the antisemitic, pro-terror Miftah organization. The second scandal was the establishment media’s whitewashing of the first scandal.

It fell to the Elder of Ziyon blog to remind everyone on Twitter that in 2013, Miftah published a blood libel against Jews. The term “blood libel” has been applied in other contexts in recent years, but Miftah claimed Jews have murdered Christian children to use their blood for baking matzos at Passover.

Historically, blood libels resulted in pogroms, including in England, Poland, and Russia; they contributed to the expulsion of Jews from England from 1290 to 1657. Jews were tried. Confessions were extracted by torture. When Miftah published its lie, the final blood-libel trial of a Jew in Western history was only 100 years past. When their essay was publicized, Miftah first tried to attack those who exposed them, then apologized—but only in English, not in Arabic.

Miftah also re-published (and later deleted) a column titled “Who Rules America: The Alien Grip on Our News and Entertainment Media Must Be Broken.” Vox’s Jane Coaston (one of a few exceptions among the media last week) noted the original source was National Vanguard, a neo-Nazi group founded by members of the National Alliance—once the best financed and organized white nationalist groups in America. The group’s founder, William Pierce, authored “The Turner Diaries,” a book that inspired Oklahoma City bomber Timothy McVeigh.

  3. Germany: Sympathizers of Antifa murdered pregnant 18-year-olds out of pure desire to kill+++
A lefty with a breast pocket handkerchief? You rarely get to see that. But yesterday, Tuesday, Niko G. dressed up. Because he was sure of the attention of a larger audience – in the courtroom of the Stralsund Regional Court. There the 21-year-old has to answer for the murder of the 18-year-old pregnant Maria K. together with his 19-year-old buddy Nicolas K.. The shocking act had made international headlines.Pure murderous lust has persuaded the young men to kill their mutual acquaintance brutally. At the beginning of the trial, one of the accused described “cruel details of the crime, which should not be further described at this point”, according to an article on the rtl.de website. Why? One wanted to see a person die.Another common feature of the killer pair has so far been suppressed by the otherwise fully reporting press: both Niko G. and Nicolas K. have something “against Nazis”. At least this is what emerges from their publicly visible Facebook profiles.”Nazis are more annoying than wasps,” Niko G. stated on September 1, 2018 via Facebook profile picture.
This is a popular saying amongst the loony left, which is not only displayed on banners at rallies, but also on shirts, cloth bags, coffee cups and similar rubbish on the Internet. With the profile picture of Niko G., the intellectually rather undemanding statement is now coming to the attention of a larger audience.Nicolas K. became even more specific. He presents himself masked on a photo uploaded on the 24th of June 2017, wearing a shirt with the inscription ” do-gooder and town-improver”.
The text may be interpreted as a cynical reference to the left-wing extremist culture of violence of the Antifa. The dark picture is adorned with the statement “FCK AFD”. Who would have thought that on an island in the Baltic Sea there would be such courageous resistance against that opposition party?
While the quality press has repeatedly called the murderous duo “Germans,” the political stance of both figures has apparently been overlooked. “Philosophia Perennis” is happy to remedy this omission.
    One thing is certain:
“The right-wing activists” won’t be held responsible for the heinous murder. No breast pocket handkerchief will help.

  4. UK Legislator Urges Abu Dhabi’s Crown Prince to Reconsider Giving Highest Civilian Award to Modi (sputniknews, Aug 22, 2019)
    https://sputniknews.com/asia/201908221076607282-uk-legislator-urges-abu-dhabis-crown-prince-to-reconsider-giving-highest-civilian-award-to-modi/

“A British parliamentarian has urged Abu Dhabi’s Crown Prince Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to reconsider conferring the UAE’s highest civil award to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi when the latter visits the country on 23-24 August.

The request from British Parliamentarian Naz Shah came in the wake of the Indian government’s recent decision to revoke the decades-old special status for Jammu and Kashmir State, granted under the Constitution of India, and the intention to split the state into two federally administered territories – Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh.

In a letter addressed to the Abu Dhabi Crown Prince, who is also Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, Shah requested a reconsideration of the UAE’s decision because Indian Prime Minister Modi is “illegally removing the sovereignty of the Kashmiri people in Indian occupied Kashmir”.

“I write to you not only as British Parliamentarian representing a constituency home to thousands of British Kashmiris, but also as British Kashmiri expressing my complete dismay towards the decision made by your (UAE) Government to award Prime Minister Narendra Modi with the ‘Order of Zayed’, your kingdom’s highest civilian award,” she stated.

“I ask you to question this decision and reconsider giving such an award, not only because the majority of the Kashmiri people share the same faith as you, but because we have a duty as human beings to stand up against the disregard of human rights and evil,” added the British parliamentarian, who is also a Shadow Minister for Women and Equalities.

Indian Prime Minister Modi’s third official visit to UAE will be an important milestone in the bilateral comprehensive strategic partnership, as said by the Indian envoy in the country.

Prime Minister Modi on Thursday left for a three-nation visit to France, the UAE and Bahrain. Ahead of departing for his visit, the prime minister stated that in the UAE, there would be comprehensive talks with the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. Modi said he looks forward to the joint release of the stamp to commemorate the 150th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi along with the Crown Prince.”

  6. ‘I can get away with anything because I’m black’: Thug who bashed two female cops and threatened to kill them mocks the legal system and vows to ‘play the race card’ in court (dailymail, Aug 22, 2019)
    https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-7382891/Yak-Dut-bashed-two-female-cops-said-wont-jail-hes-black.html

“A man who bashed two female cops and threatened to kill them with their own guns told police he wouldn’t go to jail because he’s black.

Yak Dut was pursued by the female police officers when they saw him driving a Volkswagen with a missing wheel in February last year in Mill Park, near Melbourne.

The then-21-year-old stopped outside his house in South Morang and assaulted the officers so violently they were rushed to hospital.

Following his arrest, he threatened to hunt the women down and kill them with their own guns, reported Herald Sun.

Dut has been in custody for a year and four months, but is confident he’ll be free to walk to streets again because he’s Kenyan-born with dark skin.

‘I will get away with anything because I’m black. I will play the race card,’ he told police.

The female officers, aged 36 and 57, each broke down at the County Court while recounting the events, and said they have suffered physical and mental trauma as a result of the attack.

One said Dut continued to kick her even after she fell to the ground, and attempted to grab her gun.

Her partner said the family now live in constant fear that the 22-year-old will find the officer and kill her.

‘He has no respect for authority and appears to have a hatred for females,’ one victim said.”

Both officers had non life-threatening injuries, but the 36-year-old was reported to have suffered ligament damage in her neck.

Dut pleaded guilty to two counts each of intentionally causing injury and threats to kill, along with up to 24 other offences.

His sentencing is scheduled for on Friday.”

  8. Islamophobia definition will prevent criticism of the ‘hateful’ ideology of Islam, say leading atheists (telegraph, Aug 21, 2019)
    https://www.telegraph.co.uk/politics/2019/08/21/islamophobia-definition-will-prevent-criticism-hateful-ideology/

“A new definition of Islamophobia will prevent criticism of the “hateful ideology of theocratic Islam,” say two of Britain’s leading atheists in new book of essays.

Richard Dawkins and Peter Tatchell – and other authors including a former member of extremist group Hizb ut-Tahrir – say attempts to define Islamophobia risk curtailing freedom of speech and work to expose extremism.

In a book of essays published today by the think tank Civitas, Mr Tatchell said he would have fallen foul of the new definition – proposed by leading politicians and backed by Labour – when he attacked Hizb ut-Tahrir over its anti-gay, anti-women comments.

“I was denounced as Islamophobic. But I was merely confronting…”

  9. Sweden: Bombings and Explosions Up 45 Percent in 2019 (breitbart, Aug 22, 2019)
    https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2019/08/22/sweden-bombings-and-explosions-up-45-percent-in-2019/

“Swedish police say that the number of explosive incidents and bombings in Sweden from January to July has increased 45 percent compared to the same period in 2018.

Statistics released by the police show that Sweden saw a total of 83 explosive incidents during the period from January to July, a number that has increased to 120 this year, Swedish newspaper Dagens Nyheter reports.

Last year saw a total of 157 explosions across the country according to Dagens Nyheter, but actual numbers are somewhat unclear, with other groups such as the Crime Prevention Council BRÅ reporting 108 claims of general destruction by an explosion in 2018.

The National Forensic Center (NFC), which also investigates explosive incidents, sets the number of cases in 2018 at 255 and 196 so far this year. NFC statistics show a steady increase in cases year-on-year with only 93 cases occurring in 2013.

While the exact numbers differ, all of the organisations agree that 2019 has seen a rise in explosions and bombings.

Criminologist Sven Granath commented on the explosions saying, “Yes, unfortunately, it has increased. Why we do not know, this may be due to the increase in gun violence at the national level. In individual locations, there may be one or more conflicts between criminal networks, but it is very difficult to know.”

Granath also noted that investigators never know for certain were the materials used in the explosions come from saying, “You can only really speculate. It may be stolen from a building site and sold on, or maybe smuggled in.”

Police say that the nature of explosives has also changed in recent years. In prior years, hand grenades, often from the Balkan region, were more common but now explosives like dynamite were becoming more common and increasingly stolen from construction sites.

Petra Stenkula, head of investigations at the South Police Department working against serious organised crime, told Dagens Nyheter that the explosions are likely linked to organised crime and could be increasing due to stricter firearms legislation.

“In a way, it might be less difficult to place a bomb than to murder someone with firearms,” Stenkula said.

The southern multicultural city of Malmö has seen a particularly high number of explosion cases in the last several years with 58 cases in 2017, 45 last year and 23 so far in 2019. Earlier this year the city saw three explosions in the span of just 24 hours.

So far, no one in Malmö has been killed by an explosion since 2017, but eight people have been injured as a result of blasts including a young girl who was injured this year by shards of glass while sleeping at her home.”

  10. No Rohingya turn up for repatriation to Myanmar (abcnews, Aug 22, 2019)
    https://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/rohingya-turn-repatriation-myanmar-65115030

“Bangladesh’s refugee commissioner said Thursday that no Rohingya Muslims turned up to return to Myanmar from camps in the South Asian nation as they wanted their demands for citizenship and guarantees of safety met first.

Abul Kalam told a news conference that no one from 295 families already interviewed since Tuesday by the Bangladesh government and the U.N.’s refugee agency agreed to go back to Myanmar.

“Not a single Rohingya wants to go back without their demands are met,” he said.

Rohingya have long been demanding that Myanmar must give them citizenship, safety and their own land and homes they left behind.

Myanmar had earlier said the repatriation would start from Thursday. The Buddhist-majority country has certified more than 3,000 refugees from more than 1,000 families as eligible for repatriation.

Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said her government will not force the refugees to return and the repatriation will only happen if they are willing…”

  11. https://thefederalist.com/2019/08/21/europe-considers-nazi-idea-requiring-jewish-businesses-identify-labels/
On the whole I think the Federalist has some pretty good writers. What I find strange about this site is the comments section. It generally starts with a couple of reasonable comments but quickly devolves into a food fight. So, for this article the comments quickly turn into Jew bashing.
I don’t understand why this site, with pretty well reasoned essays, attracts such a low caliber of commenters.

    • There are highly organized groups of neo-Nazis who work triple shifts to hijack any thread about anything that has a political audience and make it about Jew hatred.

They work this site but I generally catch and block before it gets to full bore. In fact, it is one of the reasons I post to D tube and bit.tube as opposed to bitchute as I cannot control the comment thread at all, and I very much dislike having our hard work on translating news and opinion videos being hijacked by freaking Nazis to be made all about Jews, and doubly so when there is no connection between the story in the video and any question of Jews or Israel whatsoever. Hence I don’t bother with bitchute much anymore except in situations where nothing else will work.

Here what they do, is someone will start posting quite good and relevant material that we will all appreciate and find informative to build a level of trust.

Then they start posting too much material to check, both in terms of freuency of posts, and in terms of the size of the material in the posts. It might be pages and pages of German and tons of videos. So much that it would take all our time to check it and see what is really up.

Then it devolves into material that more and more blames Jews for everything.

I generally stop it before then though.

So I can understand a site that doesn’t take the effort to understand these processes and stop them. But that is probably why.

      • Zerohedge may be the biggest culprit of what you describe. The problem is on the economic front there are few sites that compare as far as the Austrian economic viewpoint goes, and I always try to find the source they usually bury in the text but not always. Other financial sites are often behind a pay wall. But it’s pretty bad this way. And it’s increasingly heavy with disinformation pieces to the extent that I think the editors really don’t have much clue as to the concept of the information battle space. –Like looking through junk for gems.

    • The article skips over the worst aspect. As I understand it, the labeling applies only to businesses that Jews own. So, this stops being about geography or politics or free speech.

As an aside, Jewish media are noting that August 23 is the anniversary of the 1929 Hebron massacre: https://jewishaction.com/jewish-world/history/remembering-the-1929-hebron-massacre/

The children of Noah, Terah, Abraham, and King David have been making wine in the Judean hills for generations, and I would not be surprised if they continue to do so. Those consuming themselves with the need to label this enterprise–them-and their progeny–I do not expect them to have the will to enjoy the fruits of Judea.

  12. Germany: Turks insult and attack local woman because they thought her skirt was too short+++
On Tuesday evening around 8 p.m. two groups had a physical fight in the Rheinpark in Duisburg. The permissive clothing style of a 50-year-old woman was criticized by a 20-year-old Turk. He found the Duisburg woman’s skirt too short and, according to testimonies, asked her why she had to present her legs in such a way. The woman, on the other hand, also disagreed with the cultural customs of the 20-year-old and his acquaintances:She is said to have wondered loudly with her friends why women and men sit separately in the group. The mutual lack of understanding about the cultural differences of the people involved initially led to a verbal argument and ended in a brawl. The policemen called in were able to settle the disputes. One of the participants dislocated his shoulder during the fisticuffs, the others were only slightly injured. They are now being investigated for insult and involvement in a brawl, among other things.

  13. Germany for First Time Sells 30-Year Bonds Offering Negative Yields
Bond sale adds to the roughly $16 trillion of negative-yielding bonds outstanding world-wide
    By Paul J. Davies and
    Patricia Kowsmann
    Updated Aug. 21, 2019 3:41 pm ET

Germany sold 30-year debt at a negative yield for the first time, as investors desperate for safe assets bet that further falls in yields will boost the value of the bonds in the future.

Investors buying debt at a negative yield get back less than they paid if they hold on until maturity. In Wednesday’s sale, Germany borrowed €824 million ($914 million) through bonds that pay no interest. The bonds were sold slightly above face value, so when they mature in 2050, Germany will pay back €795 million.

Demand for government debt and high-grade corporate bonds has been huge this year, after major central banks responded to growing fears of a global slowdown with fresh rounds of interest-rate cuts or other looser monetary policy.

  14. Court rules Electoral College members aren’t bound by popular vote

DENVER — A U.S. appeals court in Denver said Electoral College members can vote for the presidential candidate of their choice and aren’t bound by the popular vote in their states.

The 10th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled Tuesday that the Colorado secretary of state violated the Constitution in 2016 when he removed an elector and nullified his vote when the elector refused to cast his ballot for Democrat Hillary Clinton, who won the popular vote.

It was not immediately clear what effect the ruling might have on the Electoral College system, which is established in the Constitution. Voters in each state choose members of the Electoral College, called electors, who are pledged to a presidential candidate. The electors then choose the president.

Most states require electors to vote for the candidate who won the popular vote in that state, but the Denver appeals court said the states do not have that authority.

    https://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2019/aug/21/electoral-college-members-not-bound-popular-vote-c/

    • A brief lesson on the US erlectoral system. In the US when you vote for the President you are really voting for electors who will elect the President. Each state has as many electors as they have members of Congress. It takes (right now) 270 electoral collage (electors) to win the Presidency. This is why it is possible for someone to lose the popular vote and win the Presidency.

There is a movement to get around the Constitution by having the electors vote for the winner of the national popular vote instead of the popular vote in their state. This is to go into effect when enough states sign on to this movement.

The Founding Father decided against the national popular vote system because this would let the big states elect the President which means the small stathave no say in who would be governing them. The left in the US wants the States dominated by big Dem run cities to elect the President because they think this will m ean Dem Presidents only. There are problems in both systems but the one that will make the small states have no say in who the President is a recipe for a massive civil war.

  16. Banks call for order in Hong Kong as jewelers warn of trade fair dud

HONG KONG (Reuters) – Hong Kong banks published full-page newspaper ads calling for law and order in the Chinese-ruled city and international jewelers sought the rescheduling of a huge trade fair as weeks of pro-democracy protests showed no sign of let-up on Thursday.

Thousands held a scrappy anti-government protest on Wednesday at a suburban subway station where demonstrators were attacked by a mob of white-shirted men last month.
    Report Ad

Protesters at the subway station were angry that nobody had yet been prosecuted for that violence. Police said they charged two men with rioting in connection with the July attack, who are to appear in court on Friday.

Wednesday’s standoff stopped short of recent intense clashes, including the storming of the legislature and occupation of the airport, with police refraining from using tear gas or attempting to storm protesters’ lines. Police said they arrested two men for unlawful assembly.

HSBC , Standard Chartered and Bank of East Asia all urged the restoration of order in the former British colony, which returned to Chinese rule in 1997.

“Oppose violence, restore social order, safeguard Hong Kong’s status as an international financial center,” Standard Chartered said in its advertisement.

  17. “Equality Court”: South Africa bans former national flag

PRETORIA. South Africa has punished the display of the former national flag as a hate speech. The flag, which represented the country from 1928 to 1994, is an “affront to the values of South Africa”, judge Phineas Mojapelo of the Equality Court justified his verdict.

The ban applies not only to public space, but also to private property. It may still only be shown for artistic as well as academic and journalistic presentations in the public interest. According to the court, everything else falls under the heading of “hate speech”.

    Court: Symbol of “white racism

Among others, the Nelson Mandela Foundation had sued after the flag had been carried at the so-called “Black Monday” rallies since 2017. With these Monday demonstrations the AfriForum, the white people’s lobby, wants to draw attention to the numerous murders of white farmers. Between 2016 and mid-2018, more than 2,000 white farmers fell victim to such murders.

The Nelson Mandela Foundation celebrated the verdict as a “victory for democracy and all South Africans”. The flag is a symbol of “white racism”, a statement continued. In fact, the flag replaced the British “Union Jack” in 1928. However, the apartheid system did not begin until 20 years later in 1948.

  18. Assault on America, Day 231: Prepare for the ‘Office of White Supremacy’ if Dems win in 2020

What exactly is a hate crime? The question isn’t as stupid as it sounds, considering, logically speaking, most crimes — at least the nasty, violent ones — involve some degree of animus, strong dislike or even, gulp, “hatred”. It’s been a long time since law school but they used to call it motive, I believe.

There’s a fancy legal distinction for the types of crimes, too. “Malum in se (plural mala in se) is a Latin phrase meaning wrong or evil in itself. The phrase is used to refer to conduct assessed as sinful or inherently wrong by nature, independent of regulations governing the conduct. It is distinguished from malum prohibitum, which is wrong only because it is prohibited.”

The concept was excellently differentiated in the movie classic “Legally Blonde” — proving it’s not that hard to explain the difference.

If you light up a cigarette in a no smoking zone, for example, it’s merely prohibited. But today’s liberals might argue you’re still trying to kill others (though slowly) by blowing tobacco smoke — so who knows, maybe such an action would come under the definition of “hate” as well. These days if you merely shoot a dirty look at someone deemed a member of a protected class, you could end up on the working end of a federal firearm.

As if it weren’t obvious, Democrat senator and presidential candidate Cory Booker sees “hate” all around him, and if elected president he intends to eradicate it by employing the law enforcement might of the United States government. David Sherfinski reported at The Washington Times, “Mr. Booker wants to create a new White House office on hate crimes and white supremacist violence to better coordinate federal agencies and responses and set up an external advisory group of community stakeholders to help share information with the federal government.

“’Dr. King once said that ‘It may be true that the law cannot make a man love me, but it can keep him from lynching me.’ So in my administration, we will use the full force of the presidency to combat hate crimes and root out white supremacist threats wherever they arise,’ the New Jersey senator said.

  19. Buying Greenland: Trump haters mock the idea, but China is paying attention

The moment The Wall Street Journal article appeared revealing President Trump was mulling over the idea of the United States buying Greenland, the autonomous Danish territory in the Atlantic, ankle-biters began to mock the idea.

But this usual panic from the jealous chattering class once again reveals the Democrats and envious Trump haters’ biggest unforced error — constantly underestimating Donald Trump. This requires deliberately maintaining a remarkable ignorance about the economic and national security issues we face as a nation.

One of those issues is the vital importance of Greenland, its horrible mismanagement as the Danish elite virtue signal about their environmentalism, condemning its 55,000 residents to poverty-stricken lives, and the national security risks economic dereliction invite. U.S.A. –-(Ammoland.com)- Several media outlets in California have teamed up with the anti-Second Amendment organization, The Trace, to investigate and write about homemade guns in California. They claim that BATFE sources say 30 percent of guns confiscated in California are homemade. Given there are over 400 million guns in private hands in the United States, and the border between California and other states is porous, and only lightly regulated; it seems an extraordinary number. From nbcbayarea.com:

An Investigation by NBC Bay Area in partnership with NBC San Diego, NBC Los Angeles, and the non-profit journalists at The Trace found that law enforcement agencies across California are recovering record numbers of ghost guns. According to several ATF sources, 30 percent of all guns now recovered by agents in communities throughout California are homemade, un-serialized firearms, known on the street as “ghost guns.”

Guns have been made at home and in small shops for the entire history of the USA. From criminaldefeselawyer.com:

The ruling mullahs of Iran, whose undue influence and bullying in the region have been significantly restrained by America in times past, have, as expected, been championing hate and dissent against Washington. They have been monitoring events in the United States with keen attention; a vivid example is the massive interest the Democratic Party’s presidential campaign is receiving from the Islamic Republic of Iran. The mullahs seem to enjoy a cordial relationship with the Democratic Party — why not? The former administration of President Barack Obama was most generous and sympathetic to their cause: being able to create a nuclear-weapons capability.

As of now, nine or ten out of twenty candidates of the Democratic Party have been qualified to participate in the third round of presidential debate and Iran has been closely monitoring the situation examining the willingness and determination of each of the candidates to return to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), commonly known as Iran nuclear deal.

  23. Macron Pushes For ‘European Solidarity’ Solution to Migrant Crisis (breitbart, Aug 22, 2019)
    https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2019/08/22/macron-pushes-for-european-solidarity-solution-to-migrant-crisis/

“French President Emmanuel Macron and Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis agreed to push for more solidarity in the European Union over the migrant crisis.

Mitsotakis, who took office on July, met with Macron in Paris on Thursday. He said the migrant crisis must not weigh only on the countries that are on the front line like Greece, Italy and Spain.

Macron implicitly criticized Italy’s hard-line interior minister, Matteo Salvini, who recently refused to allow migrants onboard a rescue ship to disembark.

Macron said “unacceptable decisions have been taken, again” and stressed that countries “must find a European solution.””

  24. Teen Accused of Attempted Attack on Swedish Populist Leader Prosecuted (breitbart, Aug 22, 2019)
    https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2019/08/22/teen-accused-of-attempted-attack-on-swedish-populist-leader-prosecuted/

“A teenager who is accused of attempting to attack Sweden Democrats leader Jimmie Åkesson with a large firecracker will face charges in court.

The attempted attack, which took place during the European Parliament election campaign earlier year in May, saw the alleged perpetrator throw a firecracker near the car of the SD leader following a speech made by Åkesson in Mariestad, broadcaster SVT reports.

According to the court indictment, investigators found that the explosion outside of the car, which contained the SD leader, along with an employee and a pair of bodyguards, was caused by a powerful firework.

A police report said that the SD leader was quite alarmed and scared during the event after the car drove off at a high speed following the incident.

The alleged perpetrator has professed his innocence, claiming that the real attacker was a different person who was simply wearing clothing similar to his own.

Following the attack, many Swedish politicians came out to condemn it, including Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Löfven who said, “Every attack on our elected politicians is an attack on our common democracy. The incident makes me extremely dismayed and I want to express my empathy for Jimmie Åkesson and his family at this moment.”

Åkesson, along with many other SD politicians and supporters, has been a victim of political violence in the past.

In 2017, his house was targetted by attackers who launched fireworks at his home and threw eggs at the building, even attempting at one point to break in while his partner and child were home.

The following year in Stockholm another SD politician had their house targetted as well. A local councillor and her partner were staying up late watching television when they noticed part of their home had been set on fire.

“Had we already went to bed, then who the hell knows how it would have ended,” the local SD politican said.”

  25. Syrian convicted of Germany stabbing that sparked protests (abcnews, Aug 22, 2019)
    https://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/syrian-convicted-germany-stabbing-sparked-protests-65118421

“A German court on Thursday convicted a Syrian man over a fatal stabbing in the city of Chemnitz last year that touched off far-right protests.

Judges convicted asylum-seeker Alaa S. of manslaughter and dangerous bodily harm in the killing last August of 35-year-old Daniel Hillig.

The 24-year-old defendant, whose last name wasn’t released in line with German privacy laws, was sentenced to 9 years and 6 months in prison, slightly less than the 10-year-sentence prosecutors had demanded.

German news agency dpa reported that the defendant had remained silent throughout much of the trial. He spoke only on the last day to say he hoped for a fair verdict.

Defense lawyers had called for their client to be acquitted, citing lack of evidence. After the verdict they announced plans to appeal and accused the court of allowing itself to be swayed by the political debate over the case.

Following the killing, thousands of neo-Nazis, members of the far-right Alternative for Germany party and others assembled in Chemnitz to protest against migration.

Chemnitz Mayor Barbara Ludwig had said ahead of the trial, which was held in nearby Dresden for security reasons, that she hoped the defendant would be convicted.

An Iraqi suspect in the case is still being sought on an international arrest warrant.”
