The only place I would disagree is with the concept of “population management” in the developing world. Mr. Morano views this as a bad thing. Considering that the third world can’t even feed themselves let alone supply fresh drinking water or sanitation I think population management would not be a bad thing.

Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has said Director General Dr Mohammad Faisal summoned Indian Deputy High Commissioner Gaurav Ahluwalia to condemn “continuous ceasefire violations by India at Hot Spring Chirikot sectors of LoC that resulted in the killing of two elderly civilians and injuring one kid”.
Earlier in the day, the Pakistan Army’s media wing the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said the Indian Army “targeted civil population with mortars and Anti-Tank Guided Missiles in Hot Spring Sector along LOC”.
The Pakistani military also claimed to have killed two Indian soldiers and injured many others in retaliatory firing.
“Reportedly two Indian army soldiers killed and many injured as Pakistan Army engaged posts from where fire was directed”, an official statement said.
Pakistan has urged India to “instruct its forces to respect the ceasefire, in letter and spirit and maintain peace on the LoC and the Working Boundary”.
Last week, Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry summoned an Indian diplomat three times after massive firing along the border that killed more than 10 people including soldiers from both sides.
Eight military personnel including five from the Indian and three from the Pakistani side were killed in the firing last Thursday, the Pakistani military claimed.
India and Pakistan have fought two wars over Kashmir, which was divided between them when they received independence from Britain in 1947. Each side claims sovereignty over the entire region.
The Parliament of India recently voted to amend the Indian Constitution, formally ending the state’s autonomous status under Article 370 and converting it into two separate union territories: Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh.”

“Pakistan’s envoy to the United States Asad Majeed Khan has made a statement that the ongoing tensions in Kashmir could potentially affect the peace process in Afghanistan.
Afghanistan has come out strongly against the statement and deemed it “reckless, unwarranted, and irresponsible”. Roya Rahmani, it’s envoy to the United States slammed Khan and said “Kashmir is a bilateral issue between India and Pakistan. We believe Pakistan’s motive and insistence to purposely tie Afghanistan to the Kashmir issue is a deliberate attempt to prolong the violence happening on Afghan soil”.
In a statement, the Afghanistan envoy said, “Afghanistan’s stability is frequently threatened by Pakistan-based, sanctioned and supported militant and terrorist groups”.
The envoy said these groups operate openly from Pakistani-governed areas and regularly spill over into Afghanistan, thereby undermining the security of his country. He said “It is a poor excuse used by Pakistan to justify its inaction against the Taliban and to avoid taking a decisive stance against the militant groups”.
Rahmani asked Pakistan to address the problem of terrorism by taking sincere and forceful measures through police action inside its territory.
Tension began to rise between the nuclear rivals, India and Pakistan after New Delhi stripped Jammu and Kashmir of its special status. Pakistan claims it is a stakeholder in Kashmir and any unilateral decision by India is unacceptable. It has also mounted a diplomatic offensive against India.
Kashmir has been a bone of contention between India and Pakistan since the countries gained freedom from British colonial rule in 1947. Both govern part of the region, but claim it in full. They also fought two wars over Kashmir.
The statement also comes in the wake of attempts by the United States and Taliban to reach a peace deal that would include withdrawal of all foreign troops from Afghanistan in exchange for the militant group’s guarantee that the country will not be used as a safe haven for terrorists. The eighth round of talks ended earlier this week with no apparent breakthrough.

“German Interior Minister Horst Seehofer has announced the government will be cracking down on Syrians with asylum status who go on holiday back to Syria.
Bavarian centre-right leader Horst Seehofer said that the government would be looking to strip Syrians who visit their home country on holiday of their asylum status, saying that those who regularly travel to the country cannot make a serious claim that they are being persecuted there, Kronen Zeitung reports.
“We have to deprive them of their refugee status,” Seehofer added and said that the Interior Ministry was monitoring any such activity from Syrians with refugee status living in Germany.
He also said that the government was watching the situation inside Syria closely and said, “If the situation permits, we will carry out repatriations.”
The revelations of asylum seekers and refugees making holidays in their home countries — where they allegedly fled persecution — are not a new development. As early as January of 2017 it was shown that asylum seekers in Switzerland were using welfare cash to go on vacations to Eritrea, despite claiming they risked death if they were ever sent back to the country.
Later that year the German Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF) admitted they were also aware of cases in which refugees had travelled to their home countries and lamented that no laws existed at the time to prevent them from doing so.
BAMF even justified some of the trips claiming that migrants may be returning to their countries because of sick relatives or other issues.
Earlier this year, noted Syrian refugee blogger Aras Bacho complained that he would like to go and visit Syria this summer but was unable to and said he knew at least six other Syrians who want for a holiday in Syria.
“Unfortunately, I was unable to go on holiday to Syria because something very important got in the way, and I hope to catch up very soon during the holidays. Germany is stressful and you need some kind of break,” he said.”

Richard Gere brands Italy’s Salvini a ‘Baby Trump’ over migrant ship
Rome – Italian far-right leader and Interior Minister Matteo Salvini is a “Baby Trump” who exploits people’s fears to win votes, US actor Richard Gere charged in a Monday interview.
Gere, 69, recently clashed with Salvini over the Open Arms, a charity rescue ship with more than 100 migrants on board, which is being denied port entry in Italy.
“[Your] interior minister has the same mentality as president Trump. In fact, I call Salvini ‘Baby Trump.‘ He uses the same radical ignorance, he exploits fear and hatred,” Gere told Italian daily Corriere della Sera.
Two weeks ago, Gere boarded the Open Arms to bring food and comfort the migrants. In response, Salvini urged him to take the migrants to Hollywood and host them “in his villas.”
“If your interior minister were to spend some time with those people, listened to their stories, their family traumas, he would change his outlook,” the actor said in his Monday interview.
Gere said he would like to meet Salvini because “I’m sure he’s not like he presents himself in public. He’ll have a family, children, parents. [But] He sees politics as a pretext to boost his approval ratings.”
Salvini, who is also deputy premier, is in a messy political situation after vowing to bring down Italy’s government in the hope of capitalizing on favourable opinion polls to win snap elections.

The Syrian Foreign Ministry said earlier in a statement that Turkish armoured vehicles entered the Syrian city of Saraqib, located in the country’s northwestern Idlib province, and are currently moving toward Idlib’s Khan Sheikhoun.
The Syrian Armed Forces have recently entered Khan Sheikhoun, which remains a stronghold of Jabhat Nusra* terror group. According to the sources, as cited by the al-Watan news outlet, the Syrian army entered Khan Sheikhoun from the northwest, liquidating many of the terrorists in the area and with others fleeing from the city.
In early August, the long-discussed truce in Idlib entered into force. However, the leadership of the Syrian Armed Forces said it would stop military actions if Turkey had not implemented its obligations under the Moscow-Ankara deal reached in Russia’s Sochi last September.
The truce deal stipulates the withdrawal of medium and heavy weapons from the contact line in the area.
However, the Syrian government forces subsequently renewed its activities in the northwest of the country due to the militants’ non-compliance with the agreement brokered by Russia and Turkey.

TIME – Airstrikes Halt Turkish Convoy on Road in Northern Syria, Opposition Activists Say
Airstrikes halted a Turkish military convoy carrying ammunition after it crossed into northern Syria on Monday, bound for a rebel-held stronghold, opposition activists said.
The strikes hit near the highway where the convoy was moving, the activists added.
It was not immediately clear whether it was Syrian government or Russian warplanes that struck near the convoy but the development marked a sharp escalation in tensions in the northwestern province of Idlib where Syrian troops have been on the offensive for weeks.
Syria’s Foreign Ministry slammed Turkey, saying the convoy consisted of armored vehicles loaded with ammunition and was heading to Khan Sheikhoun, a major rebel-held town in Idlib province, the country’s last rebel stronghold.
Turkey backs the rebels who have been in control of the region since 2012, while Russia backs Syrian President Bashar Assad’s government, which has vowed to take back Idlib. There was no immediate official word from Turkey, which has 12 observation posts in and on the edge of Idlib province, about a convoy headed to Syria.
Turkey’s private DHA news agency said Syrian government planes targeted the route of a Turkish military convoy carrying reinforcement vehicles and personnel. It said the convoy was heading toward two Turkish observation posts in the region when it came under Syrian aircraft fire.
The report said the convoy could not proceed because the route between Maaret al Numan and Khan Sheikhoun was targeted, and sheltered at a safe location. The agency did not report any casualties.
The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, an opposition war monitor, said airstrikes believed to be Russian struck near the highway and forced the nearly 25-vehicle Turkish convoy to stop.
Mazen al-Shami, an opposition activist based in Idlib, also said that warplanes struck areas near where the Turkish convoy was moving. The Sham Network, an activist collective, posted photos of the Turkish convoy — a mushroom of smoke, apparently from the airstrike, could be seen in the distance.
The Syrian Foreign Ministry called the convoy’s incursion a “flagrant Turkish intervention,” saying it had reached Saraqeb, a town north of Khan Sheikoun early on Monday.
Syrian government troops meanwhile reached the western outskirts of Khan Sheikhoun earlier in the day. The pro-government Al-Watan online and the Observatory reported that Syrian troops have entered Khan Sheikhoun from the northwest.
The ministry said “this hostile behavior of the Turkish regime” wouldn’t affect Syrian troops’ push into Khan Sheikhoun.
Syrian troops have been on the offensive in Idlib and its surroundings since April 30. The region is home to some 3 million people, many of them displaced in other battles around the war-torn country. The latest round of fighting over the past month has displaced some 450,000 people.
Khan Sheikhoun is a stronghold of al-Qaida-linked Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, the most powerful group in the rebel-held areas. The town was the scene of a chemical attack on April 4, 2017 that killed 89 people.

GATINEAU, Que. — Islamic extremists are infiltrating Canadian political parties, Maxime Bernier told reporters Sunday, alleging that political party leaders are playing footsie with them to get votes.
The leader of the People’s Party of Canada was responding to questions about whether he shares views espoused by the guest speaker at his party’s inaugural conference. Benjamin Dichter contended that the Liberal Party of Canada is “infested with Islamiscists” and that Canada is suffering from “the stench of cultural relativeness and political Islam.”
Standing shoulder to shoulder with Dichter, a last-minute 2015 Conservative candidate stand-in in Toronto–Danforth, Bernier offered some of his own views.
“If we don’t talk about this now, and we don’t talk about immigration at the same time, our country risks become something it isn’t, in 25 or 50 years,” he said, in French.
“Look at Andrew Scheer. He went out of his way to meet Islamist extremists to get their votes,” Bernier asserted, offering little evidence.
Bernier, the party said, was referring to Omar Subedar, a Toronto-area imam who has been the subject of controversial conservative Rebel Media videos as well as a recent posting in Jihad Watch.
Subedar told HuffPost Canada Monday that Bernier’s allegations are untrue and he is just waiting for “the right moment to use the Canadian system against him” and bring him to court.
The Rebel’s videos, Subedar said, distorted the message he was sharing. “Am I teaching men to go out there and beat their wives? No!,” said the imam. Subedar was explaining the prophet’s teaching and contextualize them, he said. “Almost every major imam who is in Canada has been found saying something with respect to this particular verse, because it is something that you do have to deal with,” he said, explaining a Quran passage that appears to suggest men may beat their wives lightly.
The Muslim cleric said he has no idea what Bernier is talking about regarding Islamist extremists infiltrating political parties, calling the suggestion “completely ludicrous and unjustified.”
“My personal opinion is he is trying to create a base that is hostile to people of colour,” Subedar said, of Bernier.
The first attack against him on the Rebel, he said, came when he posted a picture with then Liberal leader Justin Trudeau in 2014. The second came this spring after he was photographed with Scheer. He said he spoke with the Tory leader about the party’s relationship with the community and White supremacy.
“You reproached me for having my picture taken with someone at a public event that I didn’t know,” Bernier told journalists, referring to pictures he has posed for with a white nationalist and members of an alleged hate group. “But Andrew Scheer, he went to meet an Islamist extremist who tells people how it is good to beat your wife, and how to beat them.”
He wanted to know how Scheer planned to treat Muslims, he said, adding that the community did not begin to organize until after prime minister Stephen Harper “started targeting” them and using them as “scapegoats,” pointing to the ban on niqabs during citizenship ceremonies as an example.
The Conservative party did not return a request for comment.
Liberal spokesman Braeden Caley called Bernier’s comments “another disappointing example of today’s conservative politicians doubling down on divisive politics and completely ignoring the facts.”
Ditchter gave a rousing speech Sunday, bringing the crowd of approximately 340 to their feet, as the delegates — candidates from across the country — appeared to enthusiastically greet his message with one standing ovation after another while waving People’s Party of Canada flags and the Canadian maple leaf in the air.
“Despite what our corporate media and political leaders want to admit, Islamist entryism, and that is the adaptation of political Islam, is rotting away at our society like syphilis,” Dichter told them.
Canada has a choice to make, he said. “Option 1, do we go the direction of Europe? Do we give up our sovereignty to dangerous ideologies that have infiltrated and influence where the country is going to go?”
Or, “… Option 2, Do we say enough! This ends now,” he bellowed, to loud cheers. “Do we rediscover our roots as Canadians and do we resist the ghettoization of our society?”
North Vancouver candidate Azmairnin Jadavji told HuffPost he was uncomfortable with Dichter’s speech but shares some concerns about ghettoization and welcoming numerous newcomers who may not have the skills needed to climb the socio-economic ladder.
“I’m looking forward 20 or 30 years, and I feel that the way our Liberal and Conservative governments have been pushing our country isn’t what I want to leave for my children,” he said, explaining why he decided to get involved with the PPC.
“I’m all for immigrants; I’m an immigrant myself,” said Jadavji, who came to Canada from Tanzania when he was a small boy. “I’m concerned by the level of immigration that we are bringing in, and the quality of the immigrants, because only 26 per cent are economic immigrants,” he said.
The government’s latest report to Parliament on immigration said more than half — 56 per cent — of the 286,000 permanent residents welcomed in 2017 were economic immigrants.
Jadavji said he worries that immigrants without financial means will “have trouble integrating and then they are going to be going into ghettos because housing is difficult, education is difficult, affordability is difficult…. I want people to set up to succeed in Canada, not set up for failure.”
Clifford Albert, the candidate for the Quebec riding of Pierre-Boucher–Les Patriotes–Verchères, said he thought Dichter’s speech included “characterization that was a little strong” but he agreed with the message. CSIS, he noted has highlighted the rise of violent extremism invoking Islam, and as a child of immigrants ? his mother Moroccan and his father Austrian, Albert said newcomers should integrate.
“It’s wonderful that we have people from all around the world who come here with ethnic differences, but they should be melded into the melting pot of Canada,” he said.
In his speech, Bernier noted his is the only party willing to talk openly about the “Islamist menace.”
To reporters, he said the People’s Party of Canada welcomes Muslims and those of all other faiths who want to live according to Canadian values: separation of church and state, the equality of women and men. The PPC wants fewer immigrants and a stop to irregular refugees.
“We are against mass immigration, but we are for immigration,” Bernier said, noting his party wants to increase the percentage of economic immigrants. Pointing to social cohesion problems in Europe and in Britain, Bernier said he doesn’t want the same issues replicated in Canada because of new immigrants who don’t share the same values. The PPC wants face-to-face interviews with all would-be newcomers to gauge their potential for integration.
“It’s time to have that debate.”
Bernier makes pitch to be in leader’s debate
Bernier took to the stage to address his candidates, folks from across the country who participated in the weekend meetings learning how to debate, raise funds, get out the vote, use social media and do media interviews, in private sessions at a Hilton casino across the river from Parliament Hill.
His message seemed primarily directed at David Johnston, the former governor general and now the head of the Leaders’ Debates Commission, hoping to persuade him to change his mind and allow Bernier into the English and French debates to be held in October.
Earlier this month, Johnston wrote to Bernier informing him that, based on current polling numbers and seat projects, he did not think that Bernier had any chance of electing more than one candidate and as a result, the PPC would be excluded from the national stage for failing to meet two of the three criteria for entry.
Johnston’s ruling isn’t yet final and he has asked the People’s Party of Canada to identify three to five ridings where it thinks it can win. Bernier told reporters that his party doesn’t poll and he has no intention of providing Johnston with such a list before week’s end.
Instead, he laid out arguments for why his party should be included on a stage that he judged important to get his party’s across.

On New York Times’s new ‘racism’ theme, Americans should be the ‘Unteachables’

If you’ve been half paying attention in the past week, you know that at an in-house town hall last Monday, Executive Editor Dean Baquet of the New York Times laid out a battle plan to attack Donald Trump with a “racism” theme for the 2020 election.
This update came after NYT offended staffers and readers with a headline about Trump that was too accurate. The headline merely reported what Trump did, without framing Trump as despicable and his actions as implicitly nefarious. The headline was actually changed.
So that’s where the New York Times is on the topic of “news.” (It’s here on the topic of punditry, which is equally disquieting.) It bodes ill for the selection of a coverage theme for 2020, especially when the theme is “racism.” I put “racism” in scare quotes because there’s no telling what “racism” will mean from one day to the next. We have ample evidence of that from the last 15-20 years of public discourse on the topic. The concept of racism used to have a common meaning, but today it usually just means the person slinging it as an accusation wants to disparage someone else, as often as not for reasons having nothing to do with human racial distinctions.
And that’s the crux of the matter. Baquet outlined a plan to “teach” Americans by reframing our whole history as being about “racism.” I use these words advisedly; they are the ones Baquet used in the NYT town hall.

Mr. President, there’s only one way to bring it to a successful end.
President Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping are playing a high-stakes game of chicken that encompasses both trade negotiations and the protests against Chinese oppression that have continued for eleven weeks in Hong Kong.
Over the past week, the contest has resulted in a standoff that won’t last long.
The Hong Kong protests began in January in opposition to legislation proposed by Carrie Lam, Hong Kong’s chief executive. That bill would have significantly changed Hong Kong’s system — established in 1997 when the UK surrendered sovereignty over Hong Kong to China — to enable the Xi government to extradite any Hong Kong citizen accused of a crime to face trial under the communist mainland government.
To bring Hong Kong citizens under the oppression of China’s government-controlled courts would have the effect of negating their freedoms. Lam has backed off the proposal but has by no means abandoned it. (Beijing would never permit that.)

“I must express our profound worry about the situation in Idlib. The population in Idlib is living under bombs, children are being killed. It’s vital that the ceasefire agreed in Sochi is put into practice”, Macron said.

“An Italian psychologist has proposed modifying people’s unconscious prejudices and stereotypes by subjecting parts of the brain to electric and magnetic impulses.
Over the past 20 years, researchers have attempted to alter people’s ethnic and racial stereotypes and prejudices by providing information that counteracts the prejudice, writes Maddalena Marini, yet these interventions, while effective to some extent, have produced only limited results, especially regarding duration.
A postdoctoral researcher at the Italian Institute of Technology (IIT), Marini says that these stereotypes are so instilled in the human mind that “the only way to change them is to change the biological mechanisms of the brain responsible for generating and controlling these stereotypes.”
To accomplish this, Marini proposes the use of “non-invasive brain stimulation techniques,” which “modulate the mechanisms through which the brain regulates our behavior” by introducing transcranial electric or magnetic currents.
Studies have allowed us to define a network of brain regions causally involved in these processes, showing that “by increasing or decreasing the activity of some of these areas it is possible to reduce the strength of unconscious stereotypes,” she writes, like “the prejudice that leads to associating acts of terrorism with being of Arab origin.”
Before joining IIT, Marini was a postdoctoral associate at Harvard University (from 2012 to 2017), and she delivered a TEDx talk on eliminating gender bias in Genoa, Italy, this year.
Scientific research “has shown that our mind contains stereotypes and prejudices that are linked to the different social characteristics of individuals, such as, for example, ethnicity, skin color, weight, gender, age, sexual, political, or religious orientation, disability and physical or mental illness,” she asserts.
She writes:
Although modern society is populated by individuals belonging to different cultures, “our mind still reflects the traces of an evolutionary inheritance where human beings lived in small groups composed of individuals with similar genetic and social characteristics, bringing us still to prefer people who are socially and culturally ‘similar to us’ over those who ‘differ from us.’”
Marini does not state whether she believes that the treatment against prejudice and stereotypes should be strictly voluntary or mandatory in some cases. She does suggest that individuals are incapable of eradicating their prejudices — or even recognizing them — by themselves.
“Equality is a fundamental right of every citizen and a duty of our society,” she declares. “Equal opportunities are not only an indispensable feature of a democratic society, but also a crucial foundation for a nation’s innovation, economy and general well-being.””

More than 22 million people are illegally present in the United States, according to a recent study by scholars at MIT and Yale. Pew Research pegged the figure at 11 million, and for years it stood as the official count for media and government. It now emerges that 11 million is more like the number illegally present in California alone.
“California is home to over 10 million immigrants,” reads a chart displayed by California attorney general Xavier Becerra and governor Gavin Newsom as they announced a lawsuit against the Trump administration’s public-charge rule. “Immigrants,” is California code for “illegals,” a term the state’s ruling class has banned. As Rachel Bovard notes at American Greatness, even a legal immigrant’s ability “to stay off the welfare system must be taken into account when considering qualifications for a green card.”
California heaps welfare benefits on those illegally present, including nearly $100 million for health care in the recent budget. Many of those 10 million illegals came to California specifically to get those taxpayer-funded benefits. It disturbs Becerra and Newsom that this disqualifies the recipients from any future legal status, but there’s more to it. As attorney Madison Gesiotto explains in The Hill, voting must also be taken into account.
“Voting as an illegal alien in federal elections is a crime punishable by fine, imprisonment, deportation, or inadmissibility.” According to a State Department investigation, false-documented illegals have been voting in federal, state and local elections for decades. In 1996, illegals cast 784 votes against Republican Robert Dornan in a congressional race Democrat Loretta Sanchez won by only 984 votes.

Attorney General William Barr on Monday announced he had removed the acting director of the Federal Bureau of Prisons one week after the death of Jeffrey Epstein.
Dr. Kathleen Hawk Sawyer, who previously occupied the role between 1992 and 2003, will take over as the new director.
The outgoing acting director, Hugh Hurwitz, will return to his previous role as an assistant director for the bureau’s reentry program, Barr said.
The death of Epstein, who was accused of sex trafficking, has led to scrutiny of the Metropolitan Correctional Center where he was in custody.
Federal officials like Barr, who oversees the Federal Bureau of Prisons as part of the Justice Department, have come under extreme pressure to explain the disgraced financier’s apparent suicide.
Epstein’s death last weekend led to an outpouring of unfounded conspiracy theories — including from President Trump — related to the alleged sex trafficker’s connections to numerous wealthy and powerful figures.
Barr last week ordered the warden at the Metropolitan Correctional Center to be temporarily reassigned pending the federal investigations into Epstein’s death.
“I am pleased to welcome back Dr. Hawk Sawyer as the Director of the Federal Bureau of Prisons. Under Dr. Hawk Sawyer’s previous tenure at the Bureau, she led the agency with excellence, innovation, and efficiency, receiving numerous awards for her outstanding leadership,” Barr said in a statement.
Various reports after Epstein’s death described the federal jail as short-staffed and suggested that corrections officers did not follow protocol by regularly checking on him during his detention.
He had been held at the detention facility since July 6 when he was arrested on federal sex trafficking charges. Epstein had been placed on suicide watch late in July, but was removed from it before his death.
Barr last week promised that federal prosecutors would continue to investigate the allegations against Epstein, warning any co-conspirators that they “should not rest easy.”
In an indictment unsealed earlier this summer, Epstein was accused of having “sexually exploited and abused dozens of minor girls at his homes in Manhattan, New York, and Palm Beach, Florida, among other locations” between 2002 and 2005.
The new set of charges against Epstein came after he pleaded guilty to sex trafficking and was sentenced to 13 months in prison more than a decade ago.
Alexander Acosta resigned as Labor secretary over his role in a 2008 plea deal that resulted in Epstein’s lenient sentence. Acosta was a U.S. attorney at the time.
Epstein’s connections to President Trump and former President Clinton brought increased scrutiny to the case.
Trump, who ran in the same social circles with Epstein in New York and Florida, has said he had a falling out with Epstein 15 years ago.
