“The US decision to build a maritime coalition to patrol the key sea route across the Strait of Hormuz has prompted outrage in Tehran, predicting it will result in more instability in the region. Tensions over the issue further escalated after reports of Israeli involvement in the matter, deemed a “clear threat” by the Islamic Republic.
Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif has apparently taken aim at Washington’ s efforts to build a US-led maritime coalition in the Persian Gulf, insisting that “any extra-regional presence is by definition source of insecurity” there. He warned that Iran “won’t hesitate to safeguard its security”.
“Persian Gulf is vital lifeline and thus nat’l [sic] security priority for Iran, which has long ensured maritime security. Mindful of this reality, any extra-regional presence is by definition source of insecurity – despite propaganda”, he tweeted.
His remarks follow a rant by the the country’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Abbas Mousavi, who slammed Israel’s possible involvement in a US-led military coalition in the Persian Gulf as a threat to its national security. He noted that Tehran has the right to confront such a threat.
“Within the framework of the country’s deterrence and defensive policy, the Islamic Republic of Iran reserves the right to counter this threat and defend its territory”, Mousavi said, as cited by the Iranian outlet Press TV.
Iranian Defence Minister Brig. Gen. Amir Hatami earlier warned that Israeli participation in the mission would be “highly provocative, and could have disastrous consequences for the region”. Like Zarif, he also lambasted any foreign presence, while Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Commander-in-Chief Maj. Gen. Hossein Salami branded a potential operation in the Gulf as a “coalition of demons” and warned that Israel’s existence would be threatened with “irreversible collapse” in the event of a military conflict between the US and Iran.
The US made public a plan to create a mission, dubbed Operation Sentinel, to police the key sea route following attacks against oil tankers in the region. In May, four vessels – two Saudi, one Emirati and one Norwegian – were targeted near the UAE port of Fujairah. In June, two more tankers – Japanese and Norwegian – were purportedly targeted in the Gulf of Oman near the Strait of Hormuz. Washington and some of its allies blamed Tehran for the “sabotage”, which Iran has consistently denied.
Relations between Tehran, on the one side and Washington and Tel-Aviv, on the other, further deteriorated after it had been reported that Israel would provide intelligence assistance and other “unspecified fields” to the US-led naval mission.”

“[Joining the European Intervention Initiative] will provide Sweden with greater security, thanks to the fact that we will enter the international network. In case there is a crisis involving many counties simultaneously, we should be able to interact in such a situation”, Hultqvist said in an interview.
The minister has already told France about the plans of Stockholm. The final decision on Sweden’s participation is due to be made in September.
According to Hultqvist, participation in the programme does not mean that Sweden will be involved in any military operations.

“This is the second major blast in the Danish capital, after another explosion rocked the Tax Agency’s office on Tuesday, wounding one person.
A blast has occurred near a mobile police station in Norrebro, which is close to the city centre. According to authorities, nobody was injured. At the moment there is no official information about the cause of the incident.
“An explosion took place near a police station in Hermodsgade Street. No one was injured,” police tweeted. “We received information about a loud bang in Hermodsgade, and all emergency services are in the area”.

Danish police have urged the public to come forward with any information that may assist the investigation following an explosion near a police station in Copenhagen early on Saturday.
“We have asked a lot of investigators to work today and they will be ready to take your call, and make contact with those who might have seen something,” said Chief Police Inspector Jorgen Skov during a press conference.
According to Skov, investigators were ready to “collect CCTV footage, ring doorbells and ask people if they had seen anything.”
Skov said that the main focus of the investigation was to get a description of the suspect, a man seen close to the scene prior to the explosion, and to relay the information to the press as fast as possible.
Police and other security forces were patrolling the blast site as the area remained cordoned off.
One local resident recalled hearing the sound of the explosion during the night.
“I woke up because of a big explosion… I wondered if it was a bomb or something like that,” he said.
Nobody was injured in the blast, which occurred close to the mobile police station in the Norrebro district, just outside the Danish capital’s city centre.

“The young women were part of a group of 37 people on a summer volunteer project in a small Moroccan village. The reported calls to have them decapitated brought back to the spotlight the brutal assassination of two Scandinavian tourists by suspected Moroccan jihadists late last year.
Three Belgian girls will return home from volunteer work in Morocco after a local primary school teacher allegedly threatened to behead them for wearing shorts, local media reported.
The man purportedly wanted to “teach a lesson to those who do not respect the Muslim faith”, therefore he ostensibly called for the women to have their “heads cut off” on social media.
Moroccan police have confirmed that the suspect was arrested on Monday and will be prosecuted for “incitement to terrorist acts”.
The Bouworde organisation, which sent a group of 37 young people, including the Belgian girls, to Morocco to help build a road in the village of Adar, has already announced that it was scrubbing all its camps in the North African country following the incident.
“We have been advised not to send new groups to Morocco. We will follow this advice and we have decided to cancel all the following camps in Morocco”, it wrote on its website.
According to Bouworde, the Moroccan authorities have reassured it that everyone would be safe, however promised to repatriate any other volunteers who felt unsafe there. For the time being, 34 people have chosen to stay.
The situation has triggered a massive campaign on Facebook and beyond, with Moroccans planning to stage a demonstration on a Casablanca beach on 10 August to support the Belgian women. In a Facebook page, “YES WE SHORT!”, launched after a petition, “Everyone in shorts”, gathered more than 1,000 signatures, over 300 users RSVP’d to the event, while over 1,400 are “interested”.
“We will meet all in SHORTS at the Corniche, Ain Diab, on Saturday, 10 August to march and do some plogging in order to send a message to the obscurantists who want to impose the extreme thought and destroy the image of our country”, the message on the Facebook page reads.
The event also called on people to send flowers to Bouworde to thank the Belgian volunteers.
The disturbing reports come a few months after the bodies of two Scandinavian backpackers, Maren Ueland from Norway and Louisa Vesterager Jespersen from Denmark, were found in a popular tourist destination in the Atlas Mountains of Morocco.
One of the victims was beheaded, while another sustained serious neck wounds. The murderers, who were sentenced to death last month, reportedly pledged allegiance to Daesh* before the double killing.

Robinson was jailed for 13 months for contempt of court after he filmed defendants during the trial of the sexual exploitation of girls at Leeds Crown Court Trial.
He is now serving a nine-and-a-half month sentence for contempt of court, spending 10 weeks in HMP Onley before he was moved to HMP Belmarsh.

‘It’s solitary confinement in that he’s not allowed to see any other prisoners, but it’s not like in HMP Onley… here, he’s allowed half an hour on the exercise bike, the prison governor himself visits once a day, he has a medical once a day, he’s not being starved.’
Robinson will serve 66 days in Belmarsh prison before his release date.
It comes after the Ex EDL leader compared his spell in prison to Guantanamo Bay and claimed he survived on a diet of one tin of tuna and a piece of fruit a day during an appearance on Fox News in the US.
Robinson was on talk show Tucker Carlson Tonight in the US on Thursday to discuss his release from prison.
He was released from HMP Onley in Rugby last week after three leading judges in London quashed a contempt finding made at Leeds Crown Court in May.
Robinson was jailed for 13 months for contempt of court after a Facebook Live protest, where the judge determined that Robinson’s broadcasting of a video online breached a court order which postponed any reporting of a trial until the conclusion of another, linked, trial.
He was previously given a suspended sentence for contempt at Canterbury Crown Court, when a judge told him it was likely he would go to prison if he engaged in similar conduct in future.
At the appeal Lord Chief Justice, Lord Burnett, said the judge at Leeds Crown Court was wrong to deal with Robinson as quickly as he did.
On the programme, which was broadcast on Fox News, Robinson was introduced as an ‘activist’, told the host he was known for ‘criticising Islam’ and that there had been ‘planned attempts’ on his life in the UK.
The 35-year-old said he had been the victim of a ‘kangaroo court’ and complained he had lost ‘nearly 40lb’ in prison after living on a diet of one tin of tuna and a piece of fruit a day.
He said that, after being moved prisons, he was put in solitary confinement for two months which resulted in the shortening of his legal visits and the disruption of his legal access.
He added: ‘I was supposed to be in Her Majesty’s Prison Service, not Guantanamo Bay.’
The Prison Service has said Robinson was treated with ‘the same fairness we aim to show all prisoners.’
Robinson also told the show that other prisoners threw excrement and spat through his ground floor cell window.
He said: ‘This case, the world has watched it, it’s shocked them, for me this has been nothing new.’
He said he was diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder after a five-month period of solitary confinement in 2012 but had not mentioned it because he did not want to compare his prison experience with those of veterans who had been in war zones.
When asked why he had been locked up, Robinson said he still did not know what the reason was and argued he had been the victim of ‘hatchet jobs’ from the ‘mainstream media’.

“A Yemeni national living in Arkansas was charged with providing support to a terrorist organization, the U.S. Department of Justice said Friday.
Bilal al-Rayanni was charged Thursday with supporting al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula between October and December of 2014 while he was in Yemen.
The 28-year-old was initially on arrested June 27 and charged July 11 with making a false statement on a passport application in May. According to the original complaint, he allegedly used the name Bilal Kassim Alawdi, which he had been using on passport documentation since he was a small child.
In an interview the day before he was arrested, al-Rayanni told State Department and FBI agents that his father had purchased a U.S. visa from a Yemeni man whose name was Kassem Alawdi. His father then used that visa in 1992 to obtain a U.S. passport for al-Rayani under the name Bilal Kassim Alawdi. He said he didn’t learn his true name until he was between 10 and 12, but has used the false name to obtain and renew passports in 2002 and 2008, as well as the most recent attempt to renew his passport in May.
The Justice Department said al-Rayanni “provided and attempted to provide material support and resources, in the form of personnel (including himself) and services” to the terrorist organization, but did not elaborate. A spokeswoman said the department opened an investigation because of a citizen report.
Al-Rayanni’s lawyer could not be reached for comment…”

Gregg Jarrett: Given evidence of an attack most recently against him they’re going to want to conduct an investigation that this was indeed self-inflicted, that this was suicide.
But the fact that he was in a solitary cell most recently and on suicide watch I agree with Deroy that it is baffling how somebody on suicide watch who is routinely checked every hour and usually there are cameras, could manage to accomplish a suicide.
And not only that, when you’re on suicide watch in a jail cell, under normal protocol they remove absolutely everything in the cell that could be used for hanging.
It’s always problematic about bedsheets that they use weaker sheets that wouldn’t sustain the weight of an individual.
So I’m not quite sure how he managed to accomplish this unless they violated their own protocol.

Evidence about Epstein’s so-called “black book” also came to light among the physical evidence in today’s trove.
“Ghislaine Maxwell maintained a contact list in an approximately 100-page-long hard copy, which was openly available to other house employees,” Giuffre’s attorney wrote in a brief. “It consisted primarily of telephone numbers, addresses, or email addresses for various personal friends, associates, employees, or personal or business connections of Epstein or [Maxwell].”
Before being fired, Epstein’s Palm Beach butler Alfredo Rodriguez printed his copy of the book to hand over the FBI, according to the brief.
“Additionally, and importantly, there are several sections entitled ‘Massage’ alongside a geographical designation with names of females and corresponding telephone numbers,” the brief states, redacting some of the names contained inside.
Other traces of physical evidence disappeared: Giuffre testified that she burned notes of the men to whom he was allegedly trafficked.
Explaining she was “sick of going through this shit,” Giuffre added: “My husband and I were pretty spiritual people and we believed that these memories were worth burning.”
Former Palm Beach detective Joseph Recarey testified he found names of underaged victims during trash pulls at Epstein’s home.
“It was a lot of handwritten notes on different— different pads of paper,” Recarey said. “Some of the pads had names on it, whether it was Epstein, whether it was Ghislaine Maxwell, whether it was — there were phone messages.”
The Second Circuit ordered sunlight in July for nearly 2,000 pages of files related to Epstein, who is already a registered sex offender after he buried dozens of underage-assault charges by pleading guilty to a single count of solicitation.
An earlier look at the documents had been delayed after Maxwell sought an appeal before the entire appellate court.

After Swedish media brought attention to several cases where hedgehogs were tormented to death, an animal welfare organization confirms that the number of reports has increased this year.

The local organization Animal Friends has received more alerts than usual regarding animal cruelty this summer.
As a precaution they have tried to move the hedgehogs.
“These are special areas where youths and children as a game poke them with sticks, try to spike them and kick them like a football”, says Annica Sjöberg, chairman of Animal Friends in Nässjö, and adds that it has gotten worse this year.
Sjöberg believes that animal cruelty is often due to “ignorance”. According to her, the solution is to visit schools and explain to the children what laws apply and how to behave towards animals.
In social media, many Swedes are disgusted with the cruelty and also wonder who is behind it.
Others point out that it is a new phenomenon, that has never occurred in the country before.

An internal FBI report from August 2017 was widely criticized for using the BIE label, which many called racist. But the Consolidated Strategy Guide documents leaked this week show the FBI kept the term and made BIEs one of its top counterterrorism priorities.
Under the Trump administration, they’re considered a bigger threat than terror groups such as Al Qaeda.

In the early hours of Friday night, the car of an AfD party official was set ablaze in Krefeld, Germany.
Police were alerted to the situation on Germania street in the district of Bockum around 1:50 am on Friday. When emergency services reached the scene, the engine compartment of the car was engulfed in flames while the front part of the vehicle was completed melted.

Russian nuclear agency says five killed in accident at test site
MOSCOW (Reuters) – Russia’s state nuclear agency Rosatom said on Saturday that five of its staff members were killed in an accident during tests on a military site in northern Russia.
The accident occurred during the engineering and technical support of “isotope power sources” on a liquid propulsion system, Rosatom said in a statement.

Asked if there had been a release of radiation as a result of the incident, a spokeswoman said Rosatom had nothing to add to statements released earlier by the Defense Ministry and regional authorities.
A further three staff members suffered injuries, including burns, and were receiving medical treatment in specialized facilities, the statement said.
Russian authorities had previously said two people had been killed in the incident and that a nearby city had reported a rise in radiation levels when a liquid propellant rocket engine blew up at a testing site in the Arkhangelsk region on Thursday.

Five staff of Russia’s nuclear corporation Rosatom were killed and three suffered serious burns in the blast during a test of a liquid-propellant engine that resulted in a brief spike of radiation around the military testing site.
The Rosatom engineering and technical team was working on the ”isotope power source” for a propulsion system on Thursday, when the accident happened. The blast caused a background radiation spike, which quickly returned back to normal.
“As a result of the accident at the military firing range in Arkhangelsk region during liquid reactive propulsion system tests, five employees of the state corporation Rosatom were killed,” the company said. Three military and civilian specialists remain in serious condition, but their injuries are “not life-threatening.”

Moscow acknowledges mysterious rocket explosion involved nuclear workers
MOSCOW (REUTERS) – Russia’s state nuclear agency acknowledged for the first time on Saturday (Aug 10) that nuclear workers were involved in an explosion during a rocket engine test that caused a spike in radiation in a nearby city.
The agency, Rosatom, said five people killed in the blast were its staff members, and the accident involved “isotope power sources”, giving no further details.
Russia has given no official explanation for why the explosion of a rocket engine near the White Sea in northern Russia would have caused radiation to spike.
Statements on Saturday by state nuclear agency Rosatom were the first confirmation of the involvement of the body responsible for Russia’s atomic power industry.
Rosatom said five of its staff members were killed and three others injured in the blast, which took place during a rocket test on a sea platform.
The rocket’s fuel caught fire after the test, causing it to detonate and the explosion threw several people into the sea, it said in a statement carried by Russian news agencies.
“Searches continued as long as there was hope to find survivors,” Interfax news agency cited Rosatom as saying.
There were no further details of the rocket or fuel type.
In a separate statement, Rosatom said the accident occurred during the engineering and technical support of “isotope power sources” on a liquid propulsion system.
It gave no further explanation, and a spokeswoman at the agency contacted by Reuters declined to clarify.
Asked if there had been a release of radiation as a result of the incident, the spokeswoman said Rosatom had nothing to add to statements released earlier by the defence ministry and regional authorities.

An unidentified naval officer quoted by the Kommersant newspaper said the accident could have occurred at a testing site at sea and that the explosion of a rocket could have caused a toxic fuel spill.
US-based nuclear experts have said they suspect the blast and radiation release could have occurred during the testing of a cruise missile that used nuclear propulsion.
Greenpeace cited data from the Emergencies Ministry that it said showed radiation levels had risen 20 times above the normal level in Severodvinsk.
Russian media have said the rocket engine explosion may have occurred at a weapons testing area near the village of Nyonoksa.
Those reports say an area near Nyonoksa is used for tests on weapons, including ballistic and cruise missiles that are used by the Russian navy.

“The UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has condemned the new migrant decree enacted by Italy saying it is concerned about the much heavier fines for migrant transport NGOs.
The UNHCR responded to the decree, which was passed into law earlier this week, defending the migrant transport NGOs for picking up migrants off the coast of Libya, L’Express reports.
“Imposing fines or other penalties on commanders may deter or prevent private vessels from conducting rescue activities at a time when European states have virtually withdrawn from rescue efforts in the central Mediterranean,” the agency said.
The new decree, which was drafted by populist Italian interior minister Matteo Salvini, sees fines for vessels entering Italian waters without permission increase to penalties of up to one million euros from the previous fine limit of 50,000 euros.
Praising the migrant transport NGOs, the UNHCR said: “The commitment and humanity that motivates them should not be criminalised or stigmatised.”
The UNHCR is not the only organisation to speak out against the new decree. The European Commission has stated that it was also concerned with the new laws and a spokesman said the Commission would be examining the laws to “verify its compatibility with European law”.
The anti-mass migration policies of Matteo Salvini have led to a dramatic reduction in the number of migrants entering Italy illegally and have also contributed to a decline in the number of drowning deaths.
Salvini’s policies have also been highly popular with Italian voters as his League party has soared in the polls since they formed a coalition government with the populist Five Star Movement last year.
While the League managed to climb in the polls, the Five Stars declined and recent conflicts between the two have led to a government crisis.
On Friday, Salvini called on Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte to recognise the government could no longer continue and has called for fresh national elections as soon as possible.”

“One person has been shot after a gunman entered the Al-Noor Islamic Centre in Bærum, near the Norwegian capital, Oslo police have said.
The incident took place at 4:00pm local time on Saturday, with police operations manager Per Ivar Iversen telling Norwegian public broadcaster NRK that worshippers inside the mosque had overpowered the man just before police arrived.
Officers arrived on the scene some half an hour later after the initial report and arrested the suspect, believed to be in his 20s, with Mr Iversen confirming that the suspect “is a white man. Everything indicates that the suspect is a man who is ethnic Norwegian.”
Mosque director Irfan Mushtaq told local newspaper Budstikka that the man who shot one of his members was “wearing a helmet and uniform”, however the police did not confirm the details of what the suspect was wearing.
The victim, reportedly a 75-year-old man, was shot but according to police speaking to NRK, the injuries are not life-threatening.
“The man carried two shotgun-like weapons and a pistol. He broke through a glass door and fired shots,” Mr Mushtaq told TV 2.
At the time of the attack, three men were in the building praying: the septuagenarian and two other men. When they saw the perpetrator, the two other men fled to safety while the 75-year-old man “was quick and grabbed him immediately”, Mr Mushtaq said.
“He overpowered him while he was shooting. He ended up in a scuffle with the perpetrator, and was punched in the eye while trying to gain control,” he continued, adding that one of the other men returned and hit the gunman over the back of the head, overpowering him.
Oslo police say that there were several weapons belonging to the suspected found inside the Al-Noor Islamic Centre, but say that nothing indicates more people were involved in the attack.”

One week after a gunman killed 22 people in El Paso, Texas, another allegedly planned to live-stream an attack on a mosque in Oslo, Norway, and posted his intentions to hate forum 8chan.
Worshippers told Budstikka (via the BBC), that the man entered the mosque with a “helmet and uniform,” and was overpowered inside. One person is described as being injured, although it’s not clear what the source of the injuries was. Local police have identified the man as a Norwegian man, and say that they “have information that he has been online.” The Verge was able to locate the suspected perpetrator’s account on Facebook before it was removed from the platform.
According to screenshots of 8chan post, the shooter referenced the Christchurch, New Zealand shooter, and that he attempted to live-stream the attack on Facebook, but was unable to do so.
Following the New Zealand attack, Facebook and YouTube were forced to remove millions of copies of the shooter’s video, and Facebook implemented new restrictions on who would be permitted to post live video to the platform. The company indicated that it would apply a “one-strike” policy for users who violated its community standards. It’s not immediately clear if these restrictions prevented today’s shooter from streaming the incident, and Facebook did not immediately respond to multiple requests for comment.
The attack marks the latest incident in which a white supremacist has posted their intentions to 8chan. Last week, the El Paso shooter posted a manifesto to the forum prior to his attack, following other shooters in New Zealand and Poway, California. Last week’s attack placed the forum under intense scrutiny for its role as an incubator for white supremacists. It saw its web and DDoS mitigation service shut off, quickly taking down the website. The site also came under investigation in the Philippines, where its owner, Jim Watkins, lives.

A shooting inside a mosque near the Norwegian capital, Oslo, on Saturday has left one person injured, police said.
Police were alerted to the shooting at the al-Noor Islamic center in Baerum, a suburb of Oslo, shortly after 4:00 p.m. local time (1400 UTC).
The victim was a 75-year-old member of the congregation, mosque director Ifran Mushtaq told local TV2. Mushtaq said the shooter, who was wearing body armor and a helmet, was overpowered by members of the mosque before police arrived.
Authorities said a suspect had been arrested and there was no indication more people were involved. Police said they had no information about the suspect, other than that he was described as “a young white man.”
“One person is shot. The severity of that person’s injuries is unknown. One suspect is arrested. The police are working at the location,” Oslo police posted on Twitter.
Earlier this year, the mosque implemented extra security measures after more than 50 people were killed at two New Zealand mosques by a suspected right-wing extremist.

Two teenagers, a 17-year-old male from Cranbourne North and a 19-year-old male from Murrumbeena, were pepper sprayed by police as they began to start fighting.
The younger teenager received a penalty notice for riotous behaviour and the latter was interviewed for riotous behaviour and possessing a controlled weapon, police said.
Police also interviewed a 16-year-old for a weapon offence, while a 15-year-old was arrested for an unrelated theft.”
