India Decides to Revoke Article 370 on Kashmir’s Special Status in Unprecedented Move (sputniknews, Aug 5, 2019)

“Article 370 of the Indian Constitution gives special status to the State of Jammu and Kashmir. India controls the southern portion of Kashmir, a region that has historically been hotly contested between India and Pakistan.
The Indian government has moved to scrap Article 370 of the national constitution, which grants special autonomy to the state of Jammu and Kashmir, the Muslim-majority Indian-controlled part of Kashmir.
Home Minister Amit Shah told the upper house of parliament on Monday that the government would abrogate the cause, prompting a massive uproar from opposition lawmakers.
Article 370 allows the state’s local legislature, the Constituent Assembly of Jammu, to make its own laws and bans people from outside the state from buying property there as well as obtaining state government jobs and participating in state-sponsored scholarship programmes.
By rejecting the special status of Jammu and Kashmir, the national government is ensuring that the national constitution will now be applied throughout the Himalayan state.
Citing the threat of cross-border terrorism, Amit Shah announced that the state of Jammu and Kashmir will be divided into two union territories, governed directly by the central government – Jammu and Kashmir would be split from the mountainous region of Ladakh.
Ladakh will become a union territory without a legislature, while Jammu and Kashmir will have a legislative assembly like other Indian states instead of its own, more autonomous Constituent Assembly.
Pakistan’s foreign minister, Mehmood Qureshi, claimed that the move violates a UN resolution on the status of Kashmir.
The measure, which will come into force “at once”, comes hours after the government ordered restrictions and night curfews to be imposed on Jammu and Kashmir over fears that foreign terrorists were planning to target police officers there.
New Delhi has deployed thousands of additional troops to the Pakistan border to beef up security in Indian-ruled Kashmir, with mobile internet being shut down throughout the state. The authorities have told visiting pilgrims and tourists to leave the area, banning public meetings and advising regional schools to remain closed as a precautionary measure. Two former chief ministers of the territory have been placed under house arrest.
A Troubled Region
Kashmir has been divided between India and Pakistan since they gained independence in 1947. Both nations claim the entire region but control only parts of it. Over the past 70 years, the nuclear-armed foes have fought two wars and waged a limited conflict over the region.
An Islamist insurgency has engulfed Jammu and Kashmir in the past decades, with militants seeking secession from India. There have been reports of gunfights across the Line of Control – the de facto border with Pakistan – in recent days.
Peace talks between Pakistan and India have stalled, but speculation emerged last month that the United States could mediate a solution on Kashmir between the neighbouring nations.
Donald Trump told reporters that Indian Prime Minister Modi had asked him if he would like to broker a peace deal, but India denied that Modi had ever made such a request.
Although Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan, a Trump ally, has appeared to be willing to accept the US as a mediator, India responded that it would deal with Pakistan only bilaterally.”

Additional troops are being carried by C-17 transport planes of the Indian Air Force to Srinagar, which is the largest city in the state, the NDTV broadcaster reported. The troops are set to ensure increased security and will add to the over 35,000 soldiers that were sent there over the last week.
Earlier in the day, Article 370 of the Indian constitution, which grants Jammu and Kashmir state a special status, was revoked by a presidential decree. The move envisages that Jammu and Kashmir will become two union territories with a legislative authority directly controlled by the federal government. The bill on removing the constitutional article has yet to be approved by the parliament.
On Saturday, Pakistan accused India of using cluster munitions to kill civilians along the Line of Control. According to Islamabad, at least two civilians were killed and 11 more seriously injured in the attack. The Kashmir region has been the source of clashes between India and Pakistan since the end of British rule in 1947. Following several armed conflicts, the two countries agreed to a ceasefire in 2003. Since then, however, both parties have repeatedly accused each other of violating the truce, with continued instability in the region leading to the emergence of various extremist groups.”

UK’s Largest Islamic Bank Accused of Cooperating With Organisations Linked to ‘Extremists’ (sputniknews, Aug 5, 2019)

“The bank vehemently denies the accusations, recalling that it has been operating in Britain since 2004 and “serves individuals, businesses and charities of all faiths” and “does not support any organisation” involved in extremism.
Qatar-controlled Al Rayan, the UK’s oldest and largest Islamic bank, is ostensibly collaborating with a spate of groups linked to Islamists, The Times reports.
According to the newspaper, the bank is allegedly rendering financial services to an unnamed charity which has been banned in the US as a terrorist organisation.
Additionally, the bank is allegedly working with Finsbury Park Mosque, which ostensibly has a leader of the Islamist militant group Hamas as its long-term trustee. The US, Israel, and the EU blacklist Hamas as a terrorist organisation.
The notorious group Hhugs, which has been accused of providing funding to terrorists’ families, also hold accounts in Al Rayan, according to The Times, even though the group has repeatedly denied its involvement in terrorism-related activity.
On top of that, the bank reportedly cooperates with the non-commercial satellite network Peace TV’s funding arm, which has been singled out for labelling gay people as “worse than pigs” and calling for magicians to be executed.
Peace TV is accused of broadcasting programmes based on Islamic teachings that violate regulations established by the UK communications regulator Ofcom related to inciting crime, hate speech and abuse.
As for Al Rayan’s chief executive Sultan Choudhury, he is also reportedly at the helm of a religious institute whose alumni and speakers have openly advocated female circumcision and child marriage as well as capital punishment for adultery.
The Times quoted an unnamed Tory MP as saying that the bank’s alleged links to Islamism would be discussed with Home Secretary Priti Patel “as a matter of urgency”.
Al Rayan, in turn, told The Times that it had adhered to Ofcom regulations “at all times” and that “it does not support any organisation or event that promotes extremist or violent views or ideologies”.
Established in August 2004, Al Rayam has branches in London, Birmingham, Manchester and Leicester as well as agencies in Blackburn, Luton, Tooting, Wembley, Ilford, Bradford and Glasgow.
The bank says that it offers financial service to “individuals, businesses and charities of all faiths”. It is touted as the first UK bank claiming to operate in sync with Islamic principles.
The bank, which has a Sharia department and an independent Sharia Supervisory Committee, points out that it has five values pertaining to Al Rayam being Sharia compliant, community oriented, secure, good valued and pioneering.”

“Yemen’s Houthi militants have launched multiple drone and missile attacks against targets in southern Saudi Arabia in recent months, with the Saudi military and its coalition allies regularly deploying air defences to intercept the explosive-laden projectiles.
Yemeni drones have carried out attacks on Najran Regional Airport, the King Khalid Air Base and the Abha international Airport in south-western Saudi Arabia, Houthi armed forces spokesman Brig. Gen. Yahya Saree has announced, PressTV has reported.
According to the militia commander, the Najran airport attack involved the first combat deployment of the Qasef-2K (‘Striker-2K’) drone, and prompted air traffic at the airport to come to a halt. Flights out of Abha International Airport were also suspended, the military spokesman claimed.
Saudi officials have yet to confirm whether the attacks took place, and casualties and damage have yet to be reported.

Houthi militants have repeatedly targeted military and civilian targets across the border in southern Saudi Arabia in recent months, targeting everything from airports and air bases to Patriot missile batteries, power stations, and other targets. Militia from the war-torn country have also repeatedly targeted Saudi, coalition and US aircraft and drones flying over Yemen, with the Pentagon claiming recently that the Houthis had received “Iranian assistance” in improving their missile capabilities. Tehran has denied these claims, pointing to the naval blockade which has been in place against the southern Arabian country since 2015.
Last month, the Houthis showed off an arsenal of newly-developed domestically-built drones and missiles, boasting that the arms would give them more firepower to challenge the Saudi-led coalition.
Saudi Arabia and a coalition of mostly Gulf States began a military intervention in Yemen in March 2015, at the request of President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi, who fled the country in 2014 after being ousted by the Houthis.
In late 2018, the parties to the conflict met face-to-face in Stockholm, Sweden for a meeting organised by the United Nations to try to organise a ceasefire, ensure an exchange of prisoners and the opening of humanitarian corridors. According to the UN, the conflict in Yemen has caused a massive humanitarian crisis in the country, including the deaths of over 60,000 Yemenis. Hundreds of Saudis have also reportedly been killed in the cross-border clashes.”

Baden-Wuerttemberg’s Justice Minister Wolf criticizes the circulation of videos of the deadly sword attack in Stuttgart. Shortly after the crime on Wednesday evening, videos of the crime circulated on the Internet. The CDU politician said that if such material was circulated thoughtlessly, the victim’s dignity would be taken away after his life. The distribution of such pictures also represents an additional burden for the bereaved.Wolf added that for more than a year, the German Federal Parliament (Bundestag) has had a draft bill in its hands, which is intended to punish the shooting of corpses and the circulation of such images. In May, at the request of Baden-Württemberg, the Federal Council called on the German Federal Parliament and the Federal Government to take action. As the German Press Agency reports, criminal sanctions are currently threatened only for images that “show off the helplessness of another person”. This refers to living people. Those who take comparable photos of dead people are threatened with civil law sanctions such as compensation for pain and suffering for relatives, but this is not a criminal offence. The CDU/CSU and SPD have agreed in the coalition agreement to modify this. The Federal Ministry of Justice wants to present a bill “shortly”, a spokesperson said.

They were disconcerted to find that Friends of Science materials were even referred to in some school curricula, showing examples of the ‘polarized’ debate on climate, which Wynes and Nicholas say does not exist. Michelle Stirling wrote a rebuttal paper that shows that not all experts agree and that Wynes and Nicholas are advocating for pink slips for teachers and humanicide for Canadians. “A United Nations fact-finding mission called Monday for an embargo on arms sales to Myanmar and for targeted sanctions on businesses with connections to the military after finding they are funding human rights abuses.
The mission released a report detailing how businesses run by Myanmar’s army, also known as the Tatmadaw, are engaged in such violations and provide financial support for military operations such as efforts to force Muslim Rohingya out of Rakhine state.
The report focused mainly on the activities of two military-dominated conglomerates — Myanmar Economic Holdings Ltd. and Myanmar Economic Corp. It said nearly 60 foreign companies have dealings with at least 120 businesses controlled by the two companies in industries ranging from jade and ruby mining to tourism and pharmaceuticals.
“The revenue that these military businesses generate strengthens the Tatmadaw’s autonomy from elected civilian oversight and provides financial support for the Tatmadaw’s operations with their wide array of international human rights and humanitarian law abuses,” Marzuki Darusman, the Indonesian human rights lawyer who chairs the fact-finding mission, said in a statement.
The mission was established in March 2017 by the U.N.’s Human Rights Council in reaction to increasing repression of the Rohingya. The violence increased markedly in August 2017, when Myanmar security forces launched a brutal counterinsurgency campaign that drove more than 700,000 members of the Rohingya minority into neighboring Bangladesh.
A wide array of international groups has documented killings, rapes and the torching of villages carried out on a large scale by Myanmar security forces. Myanmar’s government has denied abuses and said its actions were justified in response to attacks by Rohingya insurgents.

PAKISTAN – Crane lowers oxen from their rooftop home ahead of sacrificial ceremony
Six oxen were brought down from a rooftop in the Pakistani city of Karachi on Sunday, ahead of a ritual sacrifice performed each year for Eid al-Adha, also known as the “Festival of the Sacrifice.”
The sacrificial animals, which belonged to Ejaz family, were lowered at a slow speed by a crane and safely reached street level.
Each year this family from Karachi’s Nazimabad neighbourhood takes care of the animals on the roof of their home in a four-storey building. The oxen are then moved down a week before the Eid al-Adha to face sacrifice. The family saves money this way, as the price of animals goes up closer to the date of Eid al-Adha.
Madeeha Ejaz, one of the children of the Ejaz family, said she was sad about the upcoming ceremony, but also happy for the good care provided to the animals.
Eid al-Adha is an Islamic holiday celebrated worldwide to honour the willingness of Ibrahim to sacrifice his son to Allah. Just as Ibrahim was about to sacrifice him, Allah gave him a lamb to sacrifice instead, and Eid al-Adha commemorates this intervention.

Clashes, travel chaos in Hong Kong as leader warns city on brink
Hong Kong (AFP) – Hong Kong riot police clashed Monday with pro-democracy protesters for a third straight day, as the city’s leader warned the global financial hub was nearing a “very dangerous situation” and a rare strike caused transport chaos.
Clouds of tear gas billowed across multiple locations on Monday as the city buckled under a general strike, which protesters pushed to emphasise they still had broad public support following two months of increasingly violent unrest.
In a rare public appearance since the crisis began, chief executive Carrie Lam warned protesters she would not cave to their demands.
“(They) have seriously undermined Hong Kong’s law and order and are pushing our city, the city that we all love and many of us helped to build, to the verge of a very dangerous situation,” Lam said.
She later referenced chants by protesters for a “revolution”, describing this as a challenge to the “one country, two systems” framework under which Hong Kong has been ruled since it returned from British to Chinese rule in 1997.

Standing on a platform powered by five small jet engines and carrying kerosene in a backpack, Zapata took off from Sangatte, just outside Calais in France early Sunday morning, trailed by three helicopters.
He reached Britain just over 20 minutes later, waving to onlookers before landing safely in Saint Margaret’s Bay, close to Dover on Britain’s southern coast, according to French television images.
“For the last five to six kilometres I just really enjoyed it,” Zapata told reporters on arrival. “Whether this is a historic event or not, I’m not the one to decide that, time will tell.”

We’ve seen this M.O. played out repeatedly. There is a deadly shooting and almost instantaneously the Left arrives at the conclusion that the gunman must be white. Such was the case with George Zimmerman, the community watch volunteer who in 2013 shot 17-year-old Trayvon Martin as the two grappled for Zimmerman’s gun. Initial reports identified Zimmerman’s race as white. When it was revealed that his mother was Peruvian with some African ancestry, the press revised his race to “white Hispanic” — a new demographic.
In reacting to the two shootings that occurred this past weekend, liberals added a new wrinkle to their M.O., pigeonholing the shooters not only as “white” but as “white nationalist.” Naturally, in an era where the president himself is written off by the Left as a white nationalist, Donald Trump’s views were also factored into the equation. Presidential hopeful Beto O’Rourke, who represents the Texas district encompassing El Paso, blamed Trump Sunday for the shooting and accused him of being a white supremacist. SPAIN – Madrid man kicked in the back in front of speeding metro train survives attack
A 23-year-old Spaniard managed to avoid being hit by an oncoming train in Madrid on Friday after an unprovoked assailant kicked him in the back and onto the metro tracks.
The incident took place at around 9.40 am on Friday morning at Arguelles metro station, in the central Madrid neighbourhood it’s named after.
As a train approached the station and the crowd of passengers filled up the platform, a young man was suddenly karate-kicked in the back and propelled onto the tracks.
Despite the abruptness of the attack, the 23 year old was quick to roll on his back into the gap on the side of the tracks, avoiding the speeding metro train by a matter of seconds and centimetres.
Passengers watched in panic not knowing if the victim had managed to escape the train in time, some of them holding the attacker down to stop him from running away, Spanish national daily El País reported.
As the train left the station and the man emerged practically unscathed, Madrid Metro security staff arrived at the scene and arrested the attacker.
Nobody saw any argument or scuffle take place prior to the near-fatal kick.
The aggressor’s apparently senseless motive became somewhat of a modus operandi for Spanish national police when they traced his criminal record and found that in the prior weeks he had engaged in numerous other unprovoked violent incidents in Madrid.
Identified as a 30-year-old Brazilian national called Bruno, he was arrested in June for trashing the furniture of a bar terrace as well as beating up the bar owner and a client in the process.
In July he was again apprehended after throwing a lit cigarette into a passing police car in Madrid’s central Preciados shopping street.
Early examinations of the man suggest the sheer senselessness of his attacks are likely caused by psychological problems.
The metro attack comes just days after a similar incident in the German city of Frankfurt, in which an 8-year-old boy was killed after being pushed onto the train tracks by an Eritrean father-of-three.

Police in Dayton, Ohio have released CCTV video footage showing panicked locals running away as 24-year-old ConnorBetts is gunned down by cops, at the entrance of a local bar, after he killed at least nine people and wounded more than two dozen on Sunday morning.
It was in this alley that he killed his first victim, according to police. Authorities say Betts then moved toward Fifth Street, where he killed eight people. His sister, Megan, was among the first victims to have been shot dead. Dayton Mayor Nan Whaley said if police had not responded as quickly ‘hundreds of people’ could have been killed.

Democrat Dayton Shooter Praised ANTIFA Terrorist Who Firebombed ICE Facility
Connor Betts had praised the actions of an ANTIFA activist who firebombed an ICE facility.
On his Twitter account, Dayton mass shooter Connor Betts praised the actions of a man named Willem Van Spronsen who attempted to firebomb an ICE facility while carrying an AR-15.
On Betts’ purported account, in which he identifies as “he/him / anime fan / metalhead / leftist / i’m going to hell and i’m not coming back“, he also described ICE detention facilities like the one Spronsen attacked as “concentration camps.”
Spronsen ultimately didn’t injure anyone in his martyr-style attack on the Tacoma, Washington immigration detention facility. He was shot by police after deploying a crude incendiary device against the building.
Betts, however, has proved far more lethal, carrying out a mass shooting Saturday night in which ten have died thus far. Betts, who was killed by law enforcement during the rampage, even killed his own sister.
