Italy: Sea-Watch 3 captain Rackete arrives in court for questioning
German captain Carola Rackete, who sparked an international debate after forcibly docking the rescue vessel Sea-Watch 3 in the Italian port of Lampedusa arrived in court in Sicilian town of Agrigento on Thursday.
Rackete will be questioned by the Italian prosecutor on charges of aiding illegal immigration.
Footage shows the 31-year-old swarmed by journalists as she refuses to make any comments to the media on her way to the court.
Rackete, who captained the migrant rescue ship Sea-Watch 3, was detained in Italy after refusing to comply with a ban on entering Italy’s territorial waters. The vessel was carrying more than 40 migrants and after weeks at sea, Rackete decided to port in Lampedusa on June 29, ramming a police boat in the process.

The second clip shows two transgenders attacking another man and damaging his car with a bat-like object, the man somehow managed to flee the spot in his car, leaving his injured friend outside the Dhaba.
Police said it is currently investigating the footage and will soon start a fullfledged probe into the matter after receiving a complaint from the victims.

‘Appalling’ arson attack on Japanese animation studio kills at least 33
TOKYO (Reuters) – A man shouted “die” as he doused an animation studio with fuel and set it ablaze in Japan on Thursday, public broadcaster NHK said, killing at least 33 people in the nation’s worst mass murder in nearly two decades.
Prime Minister Shinzo Abe called the attack in the city of Kyoto – the latest grisly killing in a nation widely known for its low crime rates – “too appalling for words” and offered condolences.
Police detained a 41-year-old man who shouted “die” as he poured what appeared to be petrol around the three-storey Kyoto Animation building shortly after 10 a.m. (0100 GMT), public broadcaster NHK reported.

Ambassador Darroch was forced to resign after cables were leaked in which he described Donald Trump as “clumsy” and “inept,” and accused his administration of “diplomatic vandalism” for restoring U.S. sanctions suspended by Obama under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) on Iran.
There were other pejorative characterizations in Darroch’s cables to the UK Foreign Office. But you get the picture. Trump had an interestingly strong reaction, tweeting angry words about Darroch and stating that the U.S. would no longer be able to work with him. Darroch is on the way out, as is usual when such a row arises. Nations rarely leave ambassadors in place who can no longer function in their roles — regardless of the right or wrongs of the situation.

The shocking figures emerged as it was revealed knife crime in England and Wales has hit a record high in the last year with around 120 offences involving blades every day.
The rate of crimes actually ending up in court is the lowest since a new way of recording data was introduced. The percentage ending up in court is nearly half what is was four years ago.
For some crimes, such as sexual offences, the percentage which ended up in court was less than four per cent.
Two reports were released today, crime figures from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) and a ‘Crime Outcomes’ report from the Home Office.
The crime statistics show knife crime rose 8% on the previous year, with 43,516 offences involving knives or sharp objects in the year to March 2019.
The figure is the highest since comparable records began in 2011.
There was a rise of 3,301 knife crime offences from 2017/18, with the volume of offences up 42% since the year ending March 2011.
The areas which saw the highest increases in knife crime this year were away from the main cities, with Suffolk, Norfolk, Lancashire and North Yorkshire all seeing large rises.
Sarah Jones MP, Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Knife Crime, said: ‘To see knife crime increase by eight percent after already being at record levels is truly shocking.
Today’s figures show the government has been far too slow to tackle county lines activity which sees vulnerable, armed young people trafficked into towns across our country.
‘With the vast majority of crimes going unsolved, it’s clear that it’s not only policing which needs a boost. Our justice system is suffering under the pressure of increasing crime and needs to be bolstered.’
The number of homicides in 2018/19 increased slightly to 701 offences from 693 in the previous 12 months, excluding terror attacks.
However, the number of homicides where a knife or sharp instrument was involved decreased by 9% in the last year, to 260 offences.
Scotland Yard, Britain’s largest force, recorded 67 homicides involving a knife or sharp instrument in the year ending March 2019 – a 39% reduction from 110 in the previous year, but higher than the 57 recorded in the year ending March 2017.
Total police-recorded crime, excluding fraud and computer misuse, stood at 5.26 million offences in 2018/19 – up from 4.88 million in 2017/18, a rise of 8%.
The total number of violence against the person offences rose by 20% year-on-year to 1.67 million, while robbery offences rose by 11%, to a total of 85,736.
Reacting to the statistics, Barnardo’s chief executive Javed Khan said: ‘It’s unacceptable that the knife crime crisis continues unabated with offences at record levels.
‘Children are not born with knives in their hands, knife crime is a symptom of a much bigger problem.
‘Our frontline support services say vulnerable children and young people are being recruited and exploited by criminal gangs and forced to traffic drugs and carry knives.
‘Urgent action must be taken so that future generations are not condemned to live in an endless spiral of violence.’
Mark Bangs, from the ONS Centre for Crime and Justice, said: ‘The picture of crime is a complex one. Overall levels of crime have remained steady, but this is not the case for all types of crime.
‘For example, overall levels of violence have remained steady but we have seen increases in violent crimes involving knives and sharp instruments.
‘We have seen increases in fraud and overall theft, but decreases in burglary following recent rises.'”

Three Isis supporters who killed two Scandinavian women given death sentence
A Moroccan court has sentenced three Islamic State supporters to death for the murder of two Scandinavian women who were beheaded while on a hiking trip in the High Atlas mountains.
The suspected ringleader, Abdessamad Ejjoud, and two other men received the maximum penalty for the murders in December of Louisa Vesterager Jespersen, a 24-year-old Danish tourist, and her 28-year-old Norwegian companion Maren Ueland.
Ejjoud, 25, street vendor and underground imam, had confessed to beheading one of the women. Younes Ouaziyad, 27, a carpenter, confessed to the other murder. Rachid Afatti, 33, had videoed the murders on his mobile phone.
The three said they were Isis supporters. The group itself has never claimed responsibility for the murders.

A member of the U.S. Women’s National Team called another top U.S. player, Jaelene Hinkle, “homophobic” after the team was accused of being unwelcoming to Christians.
Ashlyn Harris, a goalkeeper and two-time World Cup champion, lashed out at Hinkle on Twitter Monday after a third person unrelated to U.S. soccer, Obianuju Ekeocha of the philanthropic group Culture of Life Africa, tweeted that the team was “not a very welcoming place for Christians,” citing the Hinkle case.
Hinkle drew headlines a year ago for saying she turned down a chance to play for the USWNT because she didn’t want to wear the team’s rainbow pride jersey, citing her Christian faith, but has said nothing publicly about the issue in recent months.
Even so, Harris aimed her jab at Hinkle, tweeting, “Hinkle, our team is about inclusion.”
“Your religion was never the problem,” said Harris, one of five openly lesbian players on the World Cup team. “The problem is your intolerance and you are homophobic. You don’t belong in a sport that aims to unite and bring people together. You would never fit into our pack or what this team stands for.”

Al Green, Texas Democrat, even forced a vote on impeachment, as if a tweet could meet the Constitution’s impeachment threshold of “high crimes and misdemeanors.”
This week’s manufactured crisis will evaporate quickly and be forgotten.
What will last is the rising profile of the so-called “The Squad,” a rabid pack of hyperliberal freshmen who are pushing the Democratic conference toward socialism.
Led by viral sensation Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York, the group includes fellow Democratic Reps. Ilhan Omar of Minnesota, Rashida Tlaib of Michigan and Ayanna Pressley of Massachusetts.

Pentagon says 2,100 more troops going to US-Mexico border
WASHINGTON (AP) — The Pentagon says an additional 2,100 troops will be sent to the U.S.-Mexican border to help with security.
Among them are 1,100 active-duty troops who will perform a variety of missions, including aerial surveillance and logistical and administrative support. The Pentagon says the new acting defense secretary, Richard V. Spencer, approved the deployment.
Also deploying are 1,000 members of the Texas National Guard. They will be under state control. Most will assist Customs and Border Protection at the temporary adult migrant holding facilities at Donna and Tornillo in Texas.
The new deployments are in addition to the approximately 2,500 active-duty and 2,000 National Guard troops already deployed to the border.

Senator Kamala Harris, who lives with her white husband in one of the most segregated neighborhoods in Los Angeles, has come out with a call for busing children to distant schools to fight “segregation”.
That’s great for Kamala, who has no children. Her stepson, Cole, who works at the William Morris Agency, which is about as diverse as his dad and S-Mamala’s Brentwood hood, won’t be bussed to work at more diverse talent agencies, and Ella, won’t be bused from her studies at Parsons School of Design (4% black) to a more diverse design college. Like most politicians, Harris wants to penalize other people.
None of these provisions and solutions to problems that don’t exist will actually apply to her and hers.
If segregation is the mere absence of diversity and requires government intervention, as she insists it does, what is Senator Kamala Harris doing to desegregate her Brentwood neighborhood?
Kamala’s $4.8 million Brentwood home is located in a neighborhood that is 84% white and 1.2% black in Los Angeles, a city that is nearly 10% black.

“The farming community in South Africa has been shocked by another murder, as a 67-year-old man and his 62-year-old wife were reportedly attacked by a gang suspected of being behind another deadly assault against an elderly couple in May. According to Freedom Front Plus, there have been 60 farm murders since the beginning of 2019.
Sakkie van der Berg, 67, and his wife Ina, 62, have been found murdered on their farm in the Free State province in South Africa. As local media reported, the two were discovered dead and tied up in their own kitchen by a neighbour. According to Police Sergeant Wendy Nkabi, cited by the local website News24, suspicions that something bad happened were raised when the farmer did not show up for his morning routine.
Police said that van der Berg had spotted two apparent strangers walking on the farm when he was giving his employee a lift to the town of Boshof on the day of the tragedy. He asked the worker about them, but the latter did not know the trespassers either.
The man was reportedly attacked by six suspects when he returned home and opened the farm gate.
“He was then taken back to his house where, together with his wife, [he was] tied up, brutally beaten and shot. They both died at the scene”, local authorities stated, as cited by The Daily Mail, noting that the attackers then searched through the house, stealing things, including firearms.
During the 72-hour lockdown, five suspects were arrested, while an alleged sixth accomplice managed to flee. The stolen guns were recovered on a nearby riverbed. The suspects in custody are set to be charged with murder, aggravated robbery, theft, and possessing unlicensed firearms.
There have been reports that the main suspects could have been behind another farm murder in May, when DA Councillor Monica Deniacos, aged 68, and her husband Basil, 74, were killed.
The Freedom Front Plus (FF Plus), whose agenda includes fighting crime in South Africa’s rural areas, said that they had asked the Free State’s authorities to discuss creating a rural safety unit there.
“If there had been proactive policing in the district, both these murders could have been prevented. The MEC and minister cannot keep ignoring farm attacks,” said FF Plus’s Armand Cloete said, as cited by The South African.
According to the party, at least 60 farm murders and over 200 attacks have been committed across South Africa since the beginning of 2019. A report released by the Afriforum group, which champions the rights of the country’s Afrikaner minority, says that attacks on white South African farmers skyrocketed by 25 percent in 2018, with assailants using electric drills, blowtorches, and bleach against some of the victims.”

“Stockholm terror attacker Rakhmat Akilov has complained about his treatment in prison, claiming the food is substandard and that he feels lonely.
The Uzbek migrant wrote complaints to the Justice Ombudsman (JO) stating that no-one among the prison staff can have any contact with him and that they do not want to have contact with him, leading to feelings of loneliness, Swedish newspaper Expressen reports.
Akilov, who murdered five people in April 2017 in the Stockholm terror attack on the Drottninggatan shopping street, was initially housed in the Kumla prison but was moved after a 33-year-old gang member attacked and beat him last August.
Following the attack, Akilov was moved to Hall prison near the city of Södertälje where he has remained ever since. Earlier this year, the radical Islamic terrorist was found hiding an Islamic State flag in his cell within his prayer mat.
A witness during Akilov’s trial claimed that he had expressed sympathy for the terror organisation at least a year before the attack took place.
Akilov is not the only radical Muslim to have complained about his prison conditions.
In Belgium, jihadists were placed in a separate wing in two prisons in order to reduce the possibility of them radicalising other prisoners. A court later forced the Belgian state to pay the jihadists compensation due to the restrictions placed on the jihadists living in the separated areas.
Earlier this month, it was also revealed that the French government had been forced to pay similar compensation to one of the most notorious terrorists in recent French history, Bataclan terror attacker Salah Abdeslam.
It was alleged and agreed upon by a French court that the 24-hour video surveillance of Abdeslam in his prison cell had been a violation of the jihadist’s privacy, with the court demanding the government pay him 500 euros in compensation.”
