Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

    Interior Minister Matteo Salvini, who has championed a crackdown on migrants, said Italy had “no tolerance” for anyone who illegally occupies abandoned buildings. He said the structure was dangerous and put women and children living there at risk.

    City hall officials said they were providing alternative housing for the nearly 200 people affected.

    “A leading advocacy group for refugees says that with half of 2019 gone, humanitarian organizations have received only 27% of the money needed to provide relief to people affected by crises worldwide this year.

    Jan Egeland, the Norwegian Refugee Council’s secretary general, says “the current lack of funding is alarming.”

    Egeland said Monday that a total of $26 billion is required this year to provide relief for around 94 million people in need. However, donor countries have contributed only $7 billion, or $2 billion less than for the same period last year, he said, citing the U.N.’s financial tracking service.

    The NRC singled out the crises in Cameroon and Congo as examples of regions in need, and said “even funding for Syrian refugees is drying up.””

    Minister McKenna and her favorite scientific adviser, Dr. Katharine Hayhoe, like to claim that the 2013 flood in Calgary was caused by climate change. Michelle Stirling reports from the Elbow River in Calgary that eight of the worst floods in Calgary’s history were before 1933 – which is before the alleged period of human influence on climate. In fact, 2 of the biggest floods were back in the late 1800’s. If we’re going to build on flood plains, let’s build for floods – or don’t build there at all. That makes more sense than trying to carbon tax rivers into behaving themselves.

    “Police across the UK began the first ever national crackdown on forced marriage at a number of airports on Monday as latest figures show a spike in children being trafficked abroad to marry family members or acquaintances.

    The most common destinations are seen as India, Pakistan, the United Arab Emirates, Somalia and Bangladesh.

    A number of support charities have joined police alongside social and health services in working with the Border Force for Operation Limelight.

    Set to run between 15-19 July, Operation Limelight will focus on flights between the UK and destinations where there is a known high level of forced marriage. Airport and airline staff will receive further education around spotting warning signs, in the hopes that this will increase their confidence in reporting suspicious activity.

    The Home Office’s Forced Marriage Unit reported in May it had reported 1,764 cases of suspected forced marriage over the course of 2018. One-third of cases (574) handled involved young people under the age of 18, with authorities handling cases coming from over 70 countries.

    The highest rates of forced marriage travel in 2018 from the UK involved travel to Pakistan (769 cases), Bangladesh (157) and India (110). Numbers are thought to be higher, as forced marriages are often hidden crimes.

    Lasy year Breitbart News reported there has been a 100 percent year-on-year rise in the number of forced marriage cases linked to Somali heritage youngsters alone, with many tricked into returning to Africa where they are often detained and abused.

    Some of the children and teenagers are imprisoned and held against their will and only given their freedom back if they agree to marry.

    Forced marriage has been a specific criminal offence in the UK since 2014, as it was outlined in the Anti-social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014. Often other criminal offences also apply, such as violence and coercive control.

    National Police Chiefs’ Council lead for forced marriage, Commander Ivan Balhatchet, said police will “investigate every case fully and take all available steps to detect and prosecute those involved in this heinous crime. Forcing someone to marry is punishable by up to seven years in prison.”

    He urged anyone with concerns around forced marriage to act immedately, saying , “any other harmful practices affecting our children or vulnerable adults to come forward and tell police. We will treat each individual case sensitively and confidentially.””

  19. I have followed politics since I was a very young girl. I have seen many people not accepted as a candidate for various reasons. I am afraid I am not following the mantra as to why Salim Mansur was turned down. The Muslim Brotherhood has infiltrated many stations in Canada and I would think it does not take anyone with an IQ just above the village idiot to understand that, Mansur, himself makes note of that in his talk. He describes himself as a devout Muslim, at the risk of sounding terribly Islamophobic, what does he think of Shari’ah law. Yes, as he said the Conservatives will lose some votes for not accepting him as a candidate, and they will gain votes for the same reason, sometimes a party is damned if they do and damned if they don’t. I for one believe Canada would be better off today had Iqra Khalid, the woman who introduced M-103, Omar Alghabra, the man who tried to introduce Shari’ah law into Ontario when he was MPP, and Ahmed Hussen, the man who has pushed the Global Migration Pact had never been elected.

    EU’s Galileo global navigation satellite system nears 100 hours of downtime.

    Galileo, the EU’s global navigation satellite system, has been down for four days, since July 11, following a mysterious outage. All Galileo satellites are still non-operational, at the time of writing.

    According to a service status page, 24 of the 26 Galileo satellites are listed as “not usable,” while the other two are listing a status of “testing,” which also means they’re not ready for real-world usage.

    The European GNSS Agency (GSA), the organization in charge of Galileo, has not published any information in regards to the root of the outage, which began four days ago, on Thursday, July 11.

    On that day, the GSA published an advisory on its website alerting companies and government agencies employing the Galileo system that satellite signals have degraded and they “may not be available nor meet the minimum performance levels.”

    Ebola has spread to the Congolese city of Goma, which has a population of more than a million people, as the virus continues to devastate the region.

    The victim is a pastor who had arrived in the city by bus after visiting Butembo, a town around 200miles (320km) north in the centre of the outbreak.

    He had been preaching at a church where he would have touched worshippers ‘including the sick’, the country’s health ministry said on Sunday.

    Authorities have urged people to remain calm after the government said the chances of the virus spreading were ‘low’.

  27. Richard: Pay close attention to this one, the belt and road does mean that military equipment can be quickly moved across the Asian landmass. This will be more important in the future, especially during the coming civil wars in Europe. I/we have been worried about what Russia would do during the civil wars, now we have to worry about what China and Russia will do. Right now both China and Russia are in financial trouble and have internal problems but this won’t always be the case and we need to plan for the future.

    Yes it is a long Supply Line that can be cut but as the son of a Railroad laborer I know for a fact that if you have the right assets the rail system can be restored within 24 hours of the destruction of a significant portion of the rail system. You would have to destroy several miles ot track in several different locations to stop; the traffic for a week or better.

    In a first, Chinese armor deploys to Europe. New logistical reality means it won’t be a ‘last’

    A few news outlets, mostly military specialty sites, have taken note of this interesting development. On 10 July, Military Times reported that China’s People’s Liberation Army (PLA) had deployed armored medical vehicles to Germany for a joint exercise with German forces. Along with the armored vehicles, Deutsche Welt said 92 Chinese soldiers arrived to participate in the exercise, dubbed Combined Aid 2019. The exercise’s focus was on responding to “humanitarian crises, such as mass casualty incidents and serious disease outbreaks.”

    The armored vehicles, which are tracked and look like modified armored command vehicles, were delivered by sea.

    But it’s important to note that, from the standpoint of physical logistics, they need not have been. It is undoubtedly a political necessity today to take the long way around – a weeks-long sea voyage – to move PLA armored vehicles from China to Europe. Even painted out with the red cross, an armored military vehicle is an armored military vehicle.

    But since 2017, it has been physically possible to move Chinese armored vehicles all the way from the East coast of China to the UK by rail, across Asia and Europe, in a matter of days. In all of history, a feat of that nature had never been possible before. Trying to move men and materiel into and/or across Asia has defeated some of history’s mightiest armies, including those of Nazi Germany and Napoleon – or, going back further in history, Central and South Asian warriors of the Middle Ages, the imperial Romans, and Alexander the Great.

    Willem Van Spronsen died Saturday morning after a shootout with police when he arrived at the Tacoma, Wash,, facility with the intent to set the building on fire, the Tacoma News Tribune reported.

    The Tacoma Police Department responded to calls around 4 a.m. when Van Spronsen, armed with a file and flares, started throwing incendiary devices toward a propane tank in an effort to set fire to the facility and managed to ignite a car.

    Deb Bartley, a friend of Van Spronsen, told The Seattle Times that he identified as an anarchist and anti-fascist (Antifa), and she believes his intent in attacking the center was to provoke a conflict.

  30. Russia: FSB detain 2 suspected militants in Rostov

    Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) raided two houses in the Rostov region and detained two suspected members of a militant organisation affiliated with the self-proclaimed Islamic State (IS; formerly ISIS/ISIL), footage released on Monday shows.

    According to a statement from the FSB, the security services tracked down the suspects while examining links of another militant cell.

    One suspect died after an unidentified explosive device detonated in his vehicle during the operation, the statement added. The FSB also seized improvised explosive devices, ammunition and detonators during the operation.

    FSB said the suspected militants were planning to carry out terror attacks in major public spaces in Russia.

    Russia’s Investigative Committee has opened an investigation into the terror plot.

  32. My husband was specifically targeted by “outsourcing” technical jobs to others than Americans. My husband with 30 years of production and an advanced degree was told that his entire department was laid off for a Taiwanese subsidiary that would work for one third of his wage…
    Less than 24 hours before his lay off my husband was rehired by the same company with a promotion! Every one else lost their jobs…

    I don’t mean to paint everyone with the same brush but… my husband has found Indian workers to be quite unable to work in a group; bringing their prejudice and cultural supremacy with them
    The fact is that I regret that my husband was rehired by the same company that choose to lay him off. We could have changed the trajectory of our lives, retired from this system and become Walmart greeters to augment our SS. The actual fact is that several companies were more than willing to hire him even though he is over 60 years old. Why might that be???
    Could it be that industry outside of Silicon Valley understands that an American with vital skills is worth more than a dozen Indian IT workers?
    Several months ago I wrote a comment at GOV regarding a company team that competes in a “Dragon Boat” competition here on Long Island. It is truly a League of Nations… But one thing they share in common is the American Ideal.
    I ask anyone reading this to write to the White House rejecting the idea the the US actually needs 300,000 workers to flood our labor pool.

    It’s also a different safe than the one allegedly in an ‘off-limits’ room on his private island in the Caribbean.

    Federal prosecutors revealed the findings during a Monday bail hearing, for which US District Judge Richard Berman said he would announce a ruling on Thursday. Some of Epstein’s accusers were present during the courtroom session to oppose his request for release on house arrest pending trial for sex-trafficking underage girls. Both federal prosecutors and a federal probation office have recommended against letting Epstein out on bail, suggesting that he is a flight risk who should remain detained.

    Monday’s hearing follows a flurry of filings in which Epstein’s defense team and federal prosecutors dueled over whether the filthy-rich money manager would go on the lam if he was released.

    The government argued that Epstein’s international connections and wealth—estimated at more than $500 million in a court document—meant it would be easy for him to get beyond the arm of the law.

    Even if he didn’t turn fugitive, prosecutors argued, Epstein has a history of witness-tampering, including wiring $350,000 late last year to two alleged accomplices after the Miami Herald published its expose on his Florida plea deal. -Daily Beast

    Epstein’s attorneys have offered up a bail package which would allow the registered sex-offender and self-admitted pedophile to hang out at his palacial 21,000 sqft, $77 million 1930s Manhattan mansion while wearing a GPS monitoring device. He would also install surveillance cameras inside and out and deregister his cars and aircraft if released on bail “in an amount set by the court after reviewing additional information regarding Mr. Epstein’s finances,” according to the Daily Mail.

    Prosecutors say Epstein’s mansion “provides no value whatsoever” as collateral, “because the defendant would thus be likely to lose that property following a conviction.”

    The government similarly noted that Epstein’s offer to put his Gulfstream jet up for collateral is bogus, as the financier “recently sold a second plane and thus presumably has cash on hand to replace the posted aircraft without difficulty if need be.”

    The wealthy financier’s lawyers have also argued that he’s protected under the terms of a 2008 immunity deal, writing “In essence, the government seeks to remand a self-made New York native and lifelong American resident based on dated allegations for which he was already convicted and punished – conduct the relitigation of which is barred by a prior federal nonprosecution agreement.”

    More than a decade ago, authorities in Florida investigated Epstein for the very same thing, but U.S. Attorney Alex Acosta signed off on a sweetheart deal that allowed him to plead guilty to a state prostitution charge. He served 13 months of an 18-month-sentence in jail, while being allowed to leave for several hours during the day on work release.

    The Miami Herald investigation of that plea deal, along with lawsuits by accusers, helped amp up the pressure on Epstein, and the U.S. Attorney in Manhattan launched a new probe, which culminated in an indictment and arrest warrant earlier this month. -Daily Beast

    Meanwhile, prosecutors have left the door open to a superseding indictment which could contain more charges – or add alleged accomplices as co-defendants, according to the Beast.

    Although the indictment details alleged crimes against just three girls between 2002 and 2005, other accusers have come forward since Epstein’s arrest—in New York and New Mexico, where he owns a spread of land called the Zorro Ranch.

    Epstein also owns a private island in the Caribbean and a lavish estate in Palm Beach, a fleet of cars and a private jet that has hosted former President Bill Clinton, actor Kevin Spacey, Prince Andrew, and lawyer Alan Dershowitz.

    Two of Epstein’s accusers have said in court papers that Dershowitz was aware of and even took part in the sex with minors—which he has vigorously denied. Clinton put out a statement last week distancing himself from Epstein, but failed to mention at least one dinner they attended. -Daily Beast

    In an indication that Saudi Crown Prince Muhammad bin Salman is walking a fine line, Saudi media are reporting that the government is still weighing how to implement a new law on public decency two months after it was adopted.

    “This (law) is an effort to balance the pressure from conservative elements of society that accuse the (government) of allowing things to go ‘out of control’,” Ali Shihabi, founder of Arabia Foundation, a Washington-based, pro-Saudi think tank, told Agence France-Presse. “Effecting social change is an art form – you want to push as fast as possible without provoking a counter reaction. Not easy!”

    The law comes on the back of a series of reforms in recent years that were designed to facilitate Prince Muhammad’s plans to streamline and diversify the Saudi economy and project him as a reformer.

    The reforms included the lifting of a ban on women’s driving, relaxation of gender segregation, enhancement of women’s professional opportunities, the introduction of modern forms of entertainment, and the curbing of the powers of the kingdom’s feared religious police.

Tommy Robinson is heading back to jail for doing what journalists routinely do: ask questions of defendants heading into courtrooms. The gaggle of establishment media journalists who peppered Tommy himself with questions as he entered the court have not been arrested.

    British authorities claimed that Tommy Robinson had prejudiced the outcome of the trial of several members of a Muslim rape gang. This is arrant nonsense: the trial had been completed, and Tommy was asking them what they thought of their having been convicted. There was, however, a gag order on the proceedings, and it was on the basis of the claim that Tommy violated that gag order that he is now back in prison.

    Why was the gag order put into place? The obvious reason is that the British government and law enforcement authorities are deeply embarrassed by their abysmal record in dealing with Muslim rape gangs. In just one city, Rotherham, British officials “described their nervousness about identifying the ethnic origins of perpetrators for fear of being thought as racist; others remembered clear direction from their managers not to do so.”

    Leftist groups across the country are celebrating Willem Van Spronsen’s terror attack on an ICE facility.

    Police in Washington state say an armed man was shot and killed early Saturday after trying to attack a local Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention center.

    The Seattle Times reported that the unidentified man appeared outside of the Northwest Detention Center in Tacoma with a rifle and threw incendiary devices at both the facility and nearby propane tanks, at one point setting a vehicle on fire.

    Some are using the plausible deniability claim that he was only attacking empty buses. Considering that he was armed with a rifle, the claim that he wasn’t trying to attack people is nonsense. Some lefties however aren’t even bothering with any plausible deniability whatsoever.

This is why the study of history is so important, but it is not only history that is passed from generation to generation but knowledge in general.

    We often say that “There is no need to reinvent the wheel.” Consider that if not for written language, each generation would, in effect, be forced to reinvent the wheel and all other forms of technology.

    The study of history can help keep us from making the same tragic mistakes, but only if history is accurately written.

    As George Orwell sagely observed, “Who controls the past controls the future. Who controls the present controls the past.”

    The words that we use have real impact.

    In 1974 an important psychological experiment was conducted that illustrated how altering words can not only have a significant impact on how the test subjects perceived the severity of a car crash but even ultimately impact how they remember the accident creating false memories.

    The Lebanon-based terrorist organization Hezbollah has had a chokehold on the Land of the Cedars. Provided with a huge infusion of Iranian cash, arms, and occasionally Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps IRGC) personnel, it has dominated Lebanon’s political life and has superseded its military. The U.S. imposed sanctions on the Islamic Republic of Iran have dried up a large portion of the funding allocated to Hezbollah. It has resulted in salary cuts for Hezbollah fighters who are being furloughed or assigned to the reserves and are now receiving lower salaries, or no pay at all. Its major mouthpiece – al-Manar TV, is also undergoing cuts, forcing it to dismiss staff. According to Hanin Ghaddar, political analyst for the Washington Institute for Near East Policy (3/6/2019), Hezbollah “fighters and their families are beginning to complain about lost wages – a largely unprecedented development. Married fighters are reportedly receiving only half of their salaries, which normally range from $600 to $1200 a month, and single fighters are receiving only $200 a month.”

    In the meantime, Bloomberg News reported (7/9/2019) that the U.S. Treasury Department has imposed sanctions on Hezbollah officials for what it calls a “malign agenda” to provide support to the IRGC. The U.S. Treasury Department added Amin Sherri, and Mohammad Ra’d, who are members of Lebanon’s parliament, as well as, Wafiq Safa, a security official, to the sanction list for acting for or on behalf of Hezbollah. Sigal Mandelker, U.S. Treasury top sanctions official stated that, “Hezbollah uses its operatives in Lebanon’s parliament to manipulate institutions in support of the terrorist group’s financial and security interests, and to bolster Iran’s malign activities.” Hezbollah has hitherto been able to use the Lebanese state financial institutions to gain access to the U.S. financial system, and thus launder money and evade sanctions.
