Daily Links Post graphic

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

  3. DOCTOR ‘SACKED AFTER SAYING HE WOULD NOT REFER TO ANY 6ft BEARDED MAN AS MADAM’
Mr Moretto put it to the doctor that refusing to address people under their presenting sex would amount to harassment under equality laws by having the effect of violating their dignity. Dr Mackereth answered: “I don’t agree. “We do love transgender people,” he added. “That’s our duty as Christians. But to love people doesn’t mean we can accept every ideology that comes our way.” Matthew Cooper

  4. LABOUR: BETRAYER OF THE WORKING CLASS
Jeremy Corbyn and his cheerleaders conquered the Labour machinery four years ago with a promise to return the party to its radical, socialist, working-class roots. What have they actually done? Made Labour into the party of the establishment. Made it into a political instrument for the preservation of the status quo. Made it the backer of an oligarchy – the European Union – that is defined by its censorious hostility to socialist policies in its member states. The Corbyn movement has made Labour into a party not for the working class, but against it. Against its own traditional support base; against the people who were the backbone of the party for decades; and against the thing that these people are more likely than any other social constituency to have voted for: Brexit. If we acknowledge the existence of these neuro-atypical ways of functioning, provide treatment where there are associated problems, accept that jettisoning all diagnostic labels will ultimately lead to a disservice to struggling children in our schools then it would make it easier for affected children to thrive at school and eventually find educational and work opportunities that are a fit for them. 6. WHY WE MUST REPEAL SAME-SEX MARRIAGE – AND NI MUST STOP IT
As MPs in Westminster revert to their colonial ways and trample on the devolved powers of Northern Ireland by voting to introduce gay marriage and abortion into the province against the wishes of their lawmakers and population (a move now only preventable by the Assembly at Stormont reforming before October and cancelling it), it is a good time to remind ourselves why the fight against gay marriage is so crucial. What follows is a talk I gave at a Coalition for Marriage event in London last week. The event was called One Man-One Woman – The Truth About Marriage and the talk was entitled ‘The importance of defending marriage between a man and a woman’. Will Jones

  7. ZERO SCIENTIFIC BASIS FOR GENDER FLUIDITY – SAYS NOTED PAEDIATRICIAN
Treatment of children with gender incongruence has been hijacked by ‘political activism,’ noted paediatric endocrinologist Dr Quentin Van Meter has said. Addressing a conference on Gender Confusion and the Family in Westminster last week, the president of the American College of Pediatricians said that critics of the new affirming approach to transgenderism in children are being stifled, publications are being suppressed, academic faculty fear repercussions and major gatherings are not accepting contrary speakers. But none of this activism is based on science or medical evidence. Will Jones

  8. WHEN DID TRADITIONAL MORALITY BECOME ‘FUNDAMENTALIST’
And so to be Christian is to be fundamentalist: salvation is to be found in Christ alone. That is in an immutable fundamental, however offensive, hateful, intolerant, narrow-minded, unenlightened and bigoted it may be. 9. TRUMP HATERS’ ‘UNFIT TO BE PRESIDENT’ SMEAR GOES BUST
It’s time for the Trump haters to ditch their “unfit” trope. From former CIA chief John Brennan on the left to the Never Trumpers on the right, Donald J. Trump is “unfit” to be president. Or so they insist. Somehow, they claim, a combination of incompetence, mental illness, and excessive fast-food consumption all render Trump incapable of executing his duties. President Trump knows exactly what he’s doing, and he’s getting it done. He is, indeed, fit for office, as confirmed by these and other victories — not least the confirmation of 123 constitutionalist federal jurists. Finally, as the Russiagate hoax recedes into memory, Democrats’ fading impeachment chants underscore their status as Earth’s sorest losers — ever. As these storm clouds vanish, Americans are seeing how President Trump can govern when he does not hear nearly every Democrat and journalist scream “RUSSIA!” 24/7/365. Just imagine if William Barr, and not Jeff Sessions, were attorney general from Day One, and the Russigate/Mueller travesty never happened. Americans could have had for the last two and half years the president who has governed for the last four weeks. Deroy Murdock

  10. 21,460 ATTEND LIBRARY CONDERENCE FEATURING WORKSHOPS ON DRAG QUEENS & QUEERING ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS
The world’s largest library association’s annual conference this year featured more than 100 workshops with an “equity, diversity, and inclusion” theme, according to the American Library Association’s conference catalog. That included workshops with these titles (some shortened): “Creating Queer-Inclusive Elementary School Library Programming,” “Developing an Online Face for a Lesbian Pulp Fiction Collection,” and “Telling Stories, Expanding Boundaries: Drag Queen Storytimes in Libraries.” The ALA annual conference’s workshop selections also included “A Child’s Room to Choose: Encouraging Gender Identity and Expression in School and Public Libraries,” and “Are You Going to Tell My Parents?: The Minor’s Right to Privacy in the Library.” Politically charged talks and workshops like these formed at least one-third of the conference offerings, according to the ALA’s own description and a review of the conference catalog. 11. THERE’S AN LGBTQ MOMENT LURKING IN “TOY STORY 4”
The pro-homosexual news site goes on to explain that at the very start of the film, “when Woody’s new owner Bonnie goes for her first day of kindergarten, there’s a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it scene where one child is dropped off by two moms. Later, the moms return to pick up their child and give them a hug.” While the lesbian moment was “certainly not the major representation that queer people have been waiting for,” the news site continues, “it’s still important. This is one of the biggest movies of the year, after all, and will be seen by millions of all ages around the world.” The example of pro-homosexual representation was so small that not even the eagle-eyed reviewers at MovieGuide caught it. The Christian, pro-family movie watchdog site gave Toy Story 4a resounding thumbs-up, applauding it for its “very strong Christian worldview, with overt self-sacrifice for the benefit of saving others, plus very strong moral elements, including an emphasis on loyalty, caring, relationships, with the villain being transformed by the redemptive self-sacrifice.” Not to mention there was a brief comment made about not hiding in a closet also in the movie. 12. GERMANY: ARAB BROTHERS IN ARMS
BERLIN/TRIPOLI/ABU DHABI(Own report) – Despite the UN arms embargo, German military equipment is being deployed in the Libyan war. According to reports, this includes military trucks, produced jointly by the Düsseldorf-based Rheinmetall arms manufacturer and the VW subsidiary MAN, which serve as carriers for a Russian air defense system. The United Arab Emirates (UAE) purportedly redeployed these trucks in to Libya in support of the warlord Khalifa Haftar. The Emirates also use German arms in the war in Yemen. This is no coincidence: The Gulf state, one of German arms manufacturers’ major customers, is increasingly pursuing an offensive foreign policy, which includes a military component, as in cases such as Libya and Yemen. Abu Dhabi is also supporting German efforts to control the Sahel and has begun establishing military bases at the Horn of Africa. Germany maintains a “strategic partnership” with the UAE.

  15. UN LAUNCHES ALL-OUT WAR ON FREE SPEECH
? In other words, forget everything about the free exchange of ideas: the UN feels that its ‘values’ are being threatened and those who criticize those values must therefore be shut down.
? Naturally, the UN assures everyone that, “Addressing hate speech does not mean limiting or prohibiting freedom of speech. It means keeping hate speech from escalating into something more dangerous, particularly incitement to discrimination, hostility and violence, which is prohibited under international law”.
? Except the UN most definitely seeks to prohibit freedom of speech, especially the kind that challenges the UN’s agendas. This was evident with regard to the UN Global Compact on Migration, in which it was explicitly stated that public funding to “media outlets that systematically promote intolerance, xenophobia, racism and other forms of discrimination towards migrants” should be stopped.
? In contrast to the UN Global Migration compact, the UN’s action plan against hate speech does contain a definition of what the UN considers to be “hate” and it happens to be the broadest and vaguest of definitions possible: “Any kind of communication in speech, writing or behaviour, that attacks or uses pejorative or discriminatory language with reference to a person or a group on the basis of who they are, in other words, based on their religion, ethnicity, nationality, race, colour, descent, gender or other identity factor”. With a definition as broad as this, all speech could be labelled “hate”.
? The new action plan plays straight into the OIC’s decades-long attempts to ban criticism of Islam as ‘hate speech’. In the wake of the launch of Guterres’ action plan, Pakistan has already presented a six-point plan “to address the new manifestations of racism and faith-based hatred, especially Islamophobia” at the United Nations headquarters. The presentation was organized by Pakistan along with Turkey, the Holy See and the UN. Judith Bergman

  17. NIGERIA: BOKO HARAM HAVE RECRUITED 8000 CHILDREN SINCE 2009
In 2017, UNICEF reported that 135 children had been used in suicide bombings by the group. Then in 2018, 48 children were again used, with 35 of those being young girls. There have not been statistics given for this year, but it is still happening. On June 18, 3 children were used by the group to blow up a video hall, a small gathering place to watch TV. Thirty people were killed in the attack, with another 40 being injured. Boko Haram’s use of children in their terrorist acts shows that they are willing to do anything to win this fight.

  18. Whispers, suspicion about Epstein on Caribbean island

CHARLOTTE AMALIE, U.S. Virgin Islands (AP) — Ask about Jeffrey Epstein on St. Thomas and rooms go quiet. Some people leave. Those who share stories speak in barely audible tones.

The 66-year-old billionaire bought Little St. James Island off this U.S. Caribbean territory more than two decades ago and began to transform it — clearing the native vegetation, ringing the property with towering palm trees and planting two massive U.S. flags on either end. When guides took scuba divers to spots near the island, security guards would walk to the water’s edge.

It was off-putting to residents of St. Thomas — a lush tropical island east of Puerto Rico with winding roads through mountains dotted with dainty Danish colonial-era homes. Then, when Epstein pleaded guilty in a 2008 to soliciting and procuring a minor for prostitution, his need for privacy began to appear more sinister.

  19. Chinese military deploys armored vehicles to Europe for the first time as Chinese medics train in Germany

The Chinese military has deployed military personnel and armored medical vehicles to Germany for joint drills, a first for the Chinese People’s Liberation Army as it attempts to forge closer ties with Europe.

The joint exercise — Combined Aid 2019 — is focused on preparing troops with the medical service units of the Chinese and German armed forces to respond to humanitarian crises, such as mass casualty incidents and serious disease outbreaks, China’s Xinhua News Agency reported.

The exercise follows a cooperative military medical training exercise in 2016 in Chongqing, where the PLA and the German Bundeswehr practiced responding to an imaginary earthquake scenario.

“We’ve seen China increasing its participation in these kinds of activities. It provides a low risk means to demonstrate its commitment to global governance, which may help reduce anxiety about its growing military capabilities,” China watcher Matthew Funaiole, an expert at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, told INSIDER.

  20. France confirms missiles found at Libya rebel based belong to its army

Libya’s rebel National Army says it has successfully finished the first stage of its offensive on Tripoli.

It comes as more questions about EU involvement in the Libyan civil war are raised, with France confirming that four missiles found at a rebel base in the region, belong to its military.

  21. Photos of Bill Clinton and Jeffrey Epstein vanishing; fake photos of Trump and Epstein appearing
By LU Staff July 10, 2019

Fake news giveth and fake news taketh away.

Earlier today, conservative author and columnist Paul Sperry noted in a tweet that “Google photos of Jeffrey Epstein and his friend Bill Clinton, previously available on Google Images, appear to have been scrubbed.” Indeed a search of Google Images using the terms “Bill Clinton and Jeffrey Epstein” (or the same names in the reverse order) turns up a great many split images of the two men (like the one above) but none in which they appear in the same photo. Interestingly, included in the photos that do show up among the search results are several of Epstein and a younger Donald Trump:

But there’s more — much more. There is this one, posted to Facebook by someone named Lisa Marie Durkot, who captions the image “Jeffrey Epstein and his buddy, fellow accused child rapist, Trump. Epstein smirks as Trump inappropriately touches a young girl.”

  22. Germany: Merkel and Denmark’s PM sit at welcoming ceremony in breach of protocol ( during anthems )

German Chancellor Angela Merkel was seen sitting next to Denmark’s Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen during the welcoming ceremony, as the latter arrived in Berlin on Thursday.

Merkel and Frederiksen listened to the military orchestra before entering German Chancellery.

The usual welcoming protocol was breached following Merkel’s repeated shaking during official events.

The first time she was seen trembling was during the welcoming ceremony organised for Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy who arrived in Berlin with an official visit on June 18.

The second time the German chancellor was seen trembling while attending an appointment ceremony for Justice Minister Christine Lambrecht on June 27.

The latest episode happened on July 10, when Merkel was receiving Finnish Prime Minister Antti Rinne, during a press conference later that day she assured that she was in good health.

  23. Ocasio-Cortez’s next frontier: Abolishing Dept. of Homeland Security
By Rusty Weiss July 11, 2019

It’s becoming quite clear that Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez isn’t just a socialist; she’s a purveyor of left-wing anarchism. And it’s apparent she won’t stop until America is a lawless nation.

Ocasio-Cortez, in an interview last week with New Yorker Radio, said she is longer setting her sites on abolishing just ICE (U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement). She is now intent on abolishing the entire Department of Homeland Security.

“ICE is not under the (Department of Justice),” Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) explained. “It’s under the Department of Homeland Security. And so we have now – ”

Host David Remnick interrupted, asking “Would you get rid of the Department of Homeland Security, too?”

  24. Russiagate 2.0 – Italy: Salvini denies allegations Lega sought money from Russian investors

Italian Interior Minister Matteo Salvini, who leads the far-right Lega party, rebuffed allegations that his party had sought tens of millions of euros in funding from Russian investors as part of a secret oil deal, during an interview in Rome on Wednesday.

“Did we receive a Euro? No,” said the interior minister. “I never asked for anything … When I go to Moscow, I talk about politics,” added Salvini.

He concluded by saying that “as secretary of Lega I will do everything I will have to do.”

On Wednesday, the website BuzzFeed published a transcript of an alleged meeting between Salvini’s aide Gianluca Savoini and three unidentified Russians, that is said to have taken place in Moscow on October 18 last year, where the parties allegedly negotiated a deal to funnel tens of millions of euros to the Lega party.

  25. House Dems use photo from Obama admin to promote probe into ‘inhumane treatment’ at border
By Daily Caller News Foundation July 11, 2019

House Democrats tweeted a photo from President Barack Obama’s administration to promote their investigation into “inhumane treatment” at the border before deleting the tweet Tuesday.

The Committee on Oversight and Reform announced a hearing advisory set for Wednesday titled “Kids in Cages: Inhumane Treatment at the Border” over Twitter. The hearing will be “examining” this alleged inhumane treatment after members of the committee witnessed the “grotesque treatment of children.”

The announcement was meant to be for the inhumane treatment allegedly occurring under President Donald Trump. The tweet included a photo, but there was just one problem.

  27. Graves dug in missing Italian teen search empty

The two graves thought to hold the remains of an Italian teenager who disappeared 36 years ago are revealed to be empty as they are opened at the Vatican.

    • Vatican: Empty tombs offer no clue to missing teenager mystery

The Vatican said the two tombs that were opened at the Teutonic cemetery on Thursday failed to shed light on the disappearance of Italian teenager Emanuela Orlandi. Footage shows workers removing tombstones and tiles to find empty spaces underneath.

The tombs of Princess Sophie von Hohenlohe and Princess Charlotte Federica of Mecklenburg were opened after the Orlandi family received an anonymous letter suggesting the girl’s remains might be at the cemetery.

Emanuela Orlandi, a citizen of the Vatican, disappeared on her way back home from a flute lesson on 22 June 1983. For more than three decades since the incident, the family hasn’t stopped efforts to find her.

The Vatican also said that the tombs did not contain the remains of the two princesses thought to be buried there.

  29. REPORT: Remember How Kavanaugh Accuser Christine Blasey Ford Had No Social Media Footprint? Here’s Why.

When Christine Blasey Ford came forward to accuse then-U.S. Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh of decades-old sexual assault, little was known about her; in fact, she had no social media footprint at all — an extreme oddity for modern times.

But according to a new book set for release on Tuesday, penned by two prominent conservative politicos, Blasey Ford “completely scrubbed” her digital footprint weeks before sending the sexual assault allegation to Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) in the form of a letter.

Fox News contributor Mollie Hemingway and her co-author, Carrie Severino of the Judicial Crisis Network, suggest in “Justice on Trial: The Kavanaugh Confirmation and the Future of the Supreme Court” that this social media history scrubbing had been done to cover up Blasey Ford’s far-left politics and her expressed “antipathy” toward President Donald Trump, who tapped Kavanaugh for the position on the highest court.

As reported by the Washington Examiner, the book outlines how Blasey Ford was portrayed by the media as “politically moderate,” even though “her acquaintances reported Ford’s profile on social media ‘had been notable for its extreme antipathy to President Trump.’”

“Additionally, her political views ‘ran decidedly to the left and were at variance with most of her family’s,’ and Ford’s friends on Facebook said she ‘regularly expressed hostility’ toward the Trump administration, they said,” the Examiner noted, adding that Blasey Ford’s social media “was ‘completely scrubbed’ about the time Kavanaugh was tapped for the Supreme Court in early July 2018.”

Blasey Ford told Sen. Feinstein in a letter last year that Kavanaugh sexually assaulted her at a house party, which was not specified, sometime in the early 1980s. The dubious claim was completely uncorroborated and the Senate Judiciary Committee ultimately found that there was “no evidence to substantiate any of the claims.”

“In neither the committee’s investigation nor in the supplemental background investigation conducted by the FBI was there ANY evidence to substantiate or corroborate any of the allegations,” the Committee said.

Kavanaugh was finally confirmed to the highest court bench in early October, and Blasey Ford walked off with over $650,000 from a GoFundMe account in November.

As reported by The Daily Wire last week, Hemingway and Severino also claim in the book that President Donald Trump withheld “dirt” on the accuser out of fear of being accused of so-called “victim shaming.”

“They interviewed Trump, top White House officials and several Supreme Court justices, among many others,” reported Fox News’ Howard Kurtz. “The book describes a central conundrum for the judge and his advocates, which is that the team ‘understood that any criticism of Ford would be treated as a smear’ and depicted as ‘victim shaming.'”

“Although some of those who knew Ford shared details about her behavior in high school and college that were ‘dramatically at odds with her presentation in the media,’ the book says, the Kavanaugh team decided to focus on his record and the damage to his reputation,” Kurtz added.

As noted by the Examiner, Blasey Ford allegedly went by her maiden name before the accusation hit. “Some suggested that she was following sophisticated public relations advice to emphasize her relationship with her husband,” the book says.

  30. Saudi urged to release 30 jailed journalists and abandon its superficial PR exercise (memo, Jul 11, 2019)
    https://www.middleeastmonitor.com/20190711-saudi-urged-to-release-30-jailed-journalists-and-abandon-its-superficial-pr-exercise/

“A campaign to free 30 jailed journalists has been accelerated by Reporters Without Borders. The group which advocates for press freedom revealed that it was left with no option other than to increase pressure on the kingdom after what appeared to be an agreement for the expected release of journalists during Ramadan collapsed.

Reporters Without Borders have been in close contact with Riyadh since April. Representatives of the group are said to have met with several Saudi officials, including the public prosecutor and media minister, as well as the foreign and justice ministers. Their visit was spurred by the murder of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi and the country’s poor record on press freedom.

Details of the meeting, which were released in the New York Times, show that the delegation from Reporters Without Borders urged the Saudi government to free the 30 journalists detained in the kingdom. Riyadh’s dismal record of its ranking in the organisation’s annual press freedom index – where it is placed 172 out of 180 countries – was also discussed.

“They took time to hear what we had to say, and to explain why the country is 172 in the press freedom index,” said Christophe Deloire, secretary general of Reporters Without Borders. “It’s the first time they were so badly ranked, and they were of course not satisfied with that.”

The lack of action from the Saudis and the kingdom’s failure to issue pardons for the detained journalists during Ramadan – as had been discussed, prompted the group to release information this week about its meeting with the Saudis in an effort to add further pressure on Riyadh.

The detained group of 30 journalists include TV presenters, editors, columnists and bloggers. According to Reporters Without Borders, they are “the victims of an opaque and arbitrary judicial system, because of what they said in an article, a TV interview, a blog post or even a single tweet.”

The group monitoring press freedom urged global leaders to think of Riyadh’s poor human rights record and over poorer record on press freedom before going to the G20 summit next year in Riyadh.

“When you take international responsibilities, you cannot be in a situation where you have so many journalists in jail, and what happened last year,” said Deloire. He urged the Saudis to do the right thing by releasing the journalists instead of engaging in superficial public relations exercises.”

  31. Saudi planning to relax travel restrictions for women, says report (mee, Jul 11, 2019)
    https://www.middleeasteye.net/news/saudi-planning-relax-travel-restrictions-women-says-report

“Saudi Arabia plans to implement changes to the guardianship system to allow women to travel without the approval of a male relative, the Wall Street Journal reported on Thursday, citing senior sources in the Gulf kingdom.

A senior Saudi advisor told the newspaper that the rules on travel would be changed later this year based on the recommendations of a government committee tasked with revising the guardianship laws.

The advisor said the directive had come “from the top” of the government.

“The current discussion is about how to make this happen as soon as possible without causing a stir,” a member of the Saudi royal family also told the newspaper.

Under the guardianship system, every woman is assigned a male relative – often a father or husband but sometimes an uncle, brother or even a son – whose approval is needed on most legal actions.

The new plan will do away with a law that states women of any age and men under 21 need a guardian’s permission to travel abroad, the WSJ reported.

Women will still require a guardian’s consent to marry, leave prison or even exit a shelter for abuse victims, it said.

Rights groups say the guardianship arrangement turns women into second-class citizens, depriving them of social and economic freedoms and making them more vulnerable to violence…”

  32. Iran’s Guard says it killed 5 gunmen who entered from Iraq (abcnews, Jul 11, 2019)
    https://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/irans-guard-killed-gunmen-entered-iraq-64261605

“Iran’s paramilitary Revolutionary Guard says it has killed five gunmen who crossed into a mostly Kurdish region from neighboring Iraq.

The Guard says in a statement published on its website that one of its members was killed in the shootout Wednesday in the western Kermanshah province. It says Iranian forces seized weapons, explosives and communications equipment.

On Tuesday, Kurdish militants killed three Guard members in northern Iran. Iranian forces occasionally clash with Kurdish militants and Islamic State extremists in areas near the border.”

“A car bomb exploded Thursday at the entrance to a northern Syrian town controlled by Turkish forces and allied Syrian fighters, killing at least nine people, Turkish state media and Syrian rescuers said.

The state-run Anadolu Agency said the bomb in a fuel truck exploded in Afrin, igniting a fire and causing considerable damage to the surrounding area. Syrian first responders, known as the White Helmets, said at least nine people were killed in the explosion, which occurred in a residential area, and 35 were wounded.

The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights put the death toll at 11 and said it was likely to rise because some of the injuries were serious. The Observatory said the blast occurred near a checkpoint at the entrance to the town where vehicles were lined up…”

  34. Pakistani cleric who fought US forces in Afghanistan dies (abcnews, Jul 11, 2019)
    https://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/pakistani-cleric-fought-us-forces-afghanistan-dies-64258854

“A radical cleric from Pakistan who traveled to neighboring Afghanistan to battle international forces after the 2001 U.S.-led invasion died Thursday at the age of 94.

Family members say Maulana Sufi Mohammad died in the Pakistani city of Peshawar, where a funeral will be held later in the day.

Pakistan arrested the cleric upon his return from Afghanistan in 2009 and he was sentenced on multiple charges. He was released last year for health reasons.

He is the father-in-law of Mullah Fazlullah, a Pakistani Taliban leader who was killed in a U.S. drone strike in Afghanistan last year.

The U.S. and Afghanistan have long accused Pakistan of harboring militants. Pakistan denies such allegations, pointing to its own costly war against homegrown extremists.”

  35. At UN body, 22 nations urge China to end Xinjiang detentions (abcnews, Jul 11, 2019)
    https://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/body-22-nations-urge-china-end-xinjiang-detentions-64251147

“Human Rights Watch says 22 Western countries have issued a statement urging China to end mass arbitrary detentions and other violations against Uighurs and other Muslims in the Xinjiang region.

The advocacy group hailed the “important” statement at the U.N.-backed Human Rights Council, which amounts to a symbolic step toward greater expression of concern about China’s policies in Xinjiang.

The signatories issued the statement as a “letter” at the council, and stopped short of seeking a council resolution — a testament to the challenges of building support against increasingly influential China.

Rights groups and the United States estimate up to 1 million Muslims may be arbitrarily detained in Xinjiang.

China denies widespread abuse in the detention centers and calls them training schools aimed to combat extremism and provide employable skills.”

  36. Atheism and Islam on the rise in the UK as Christianity suffers ‘dramatic decline’ (telegraph, Jul 11, 2019)
    https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2019/07/11/atheism-islam-rise-uk-christianity-suffers-dramatic-decline/

“Christian belief has halved in Britain in 35 years with just one in three people now identifying as Christian – while atheism and Islam continue to rise.

Figures published by the British Social Attitudes Survey reveal the widest ever margin between staunch atheists and believers who are certain that God exists.

Of almost 4,000 people polled by the National Centre for Social Research (NatCen), 38 per cent described themselves as Christian – a fall from 50 per cent in 2008 and 66 per cent in 1983.

Those identifying as Muslim increased from 1 per cent in 1983 to 3 per cent in 2008, and 6 per cent in 2018.

The survey shows that the biggest change is in the number of people who define themselves as “confident atheists”, which rose from 10 per cent in 1998 to 18 per cent in 2008 and its record high of 26 per cent in 2018.

In contrast, researchers found that an overall 55 per cent of the population express some sort of belief in some kind of God.

Nancy Kelley, deputy chief executive at NatCen, said that the steady decline in religion and belief among the British public is “one of the most important trends in post-war history”.

“As our society has become more secular, the role of religious institutions and religious identities in determining our moral and social norms has weakened. Other world views, such as scientific rationalism and liberal individual-ism, now play a more significant part in British society.”

The report’s authors said the survey suggests Britain is becoming more secular “not because adults are losing their religion” but because older people with an attachment to Christian denominations are “gradually being replaced in the population by unaffiliated younger people”.

They added that religious decline in Britain is “generational” as people tend to be less religious than their parents.

Dave Male, the Church of England’s director of evangelism and discipleship, said: “For many people ticking a box marked ‘Church of England’ or ‘Anglican’ is now an active choice and no longer an automatic response. In spite of this, the Church of England remains at the heart of communities.”

Andrew Copson, the chief executive of the non-religion charity Humanists UK, said: “With these trends set to continue, policymakers in every field, from education to constitutional law, to health and social care, need to wake up to such dramatic social changes.””

  37. European Population Growth Continues to Be Driven by Mass Migration (breitbart, Jul 11, 2019)
    https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2019/07/11/european-population-growth-pushed-mass-migration/

“Despite there being more deaths than births across the continent, Europe saw population growth over over one million in 2018 largely driven by continued mass migration.

The European Union statistics agency Eurostat confirmed that the population within Europe had increased from 512.4 million to 513.5 million in 2018, the second year in a row the population of the continent has increased despite lower birthrates than death rates, Il Giornale reports.

Ireland continues to have one of the strongest birthrates in the European Union with 12.5 births per thousand inhabitants, while Italy, with 7.3 births per thousand inhabitants, ranked among the lowest in Europe. Five million children were born in Europe in 2018, down by around 118,000 from the previous year.

France, like Ireland, has a much higher birthrate than the European average, but according to a report from French newspaper Le Figaro, there is a disparity between the birthrates of native French and migrants.

Data from a study by the Institut national d’études démographiques (INED) claims that the native French birthrate is around 1.8 children per woman, much higher than the 1.59 average across the EU, but the birthrate for migrants is 2.6 children per woman, well above average.

Information from the Institut national de la statistique et des études économiques (INSEE) also used in the study reveals that around 18.8 per cent of the births in France in 2017 are to migrants, despite immigrant mothers making up around 12 per cent of the French population.

“If France is at the forefront of fertility rates in Europe, it does not come so much from immigration as the high fertility of natives,” the study claims, with native French defined as anyone born in the country.

While France’s birthrate remains high in comparison to other European countries, it has also seen two straight years of record-breaking numbers of asylum claims. Last year alone the country saw 123,625 individuals apply for asylum, up 22.7 per cent from the previous year.”

  38. The Democrat Who Let Jeffrey Epstein Get Away
Why is no one talking about Barry Krischer?
    July 11, 2019
    Daniel Greenfield

The Florida prosecutor who allowed Jeffrey Epstein to get away with the abuse of children is a very popular guy in Palm Beach.

The YWCA of Palm Beach County (“eliminating racism, empowering women”) offers the Barry Krischer Humanitarian Award and the Domestic Violence Council has a Barry Krischer scholarship.

Last year, the ADL honored Krischer with its Jurisprudence Award.

The Florida Bar had honored Kirscher with a lifetime achievement award and he’s still listed as a member in good standing. Even Jeb Bush had bestowed a Peace at Home award on the prosecutor.

Krischer sits on the Criminal Justice Commission and offers training to law enforcement, court personnel and child welfare providers on dealing with crimes of sexual violence. His bio states that he remains active in “child welfare issues” through his work with the Department of Children and Families.

The former Palm Beach County State Attorney had made national news three times during his career. Once when he went after Rush Limbaugh, then after Ann Coulter, two Republicans, and when, after being handed the case of Epstein, a co-founder of the Clinton Global Initiative, he gave him a pass.

Barry Krischer is a Democrat. Jeffrey Epstein is a billionaire donor to Democrats.
