Daily Links Post graphic

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

  3. BACK TO SCHOOL WITH STONEWALL – SEPT 2018
Stonewall’s guidance imposes a belief system onto schools while presenting it as fact: serious questions need to be asked about how Stonewall and transgender lobby groups have been allowed to issue schools guidance based on the extreme ideological beliefs of a small minority. We should be especially concerned that these groups unilaterally dismantle safeguarding for girls, encourage young people to transition and keep all this a secret from parents.

Big Pharma has a significant monetary interest in transgender transition treatments — especially for children — that make patients dependent on cross-sex hormones for life. In Buying Gay, the historian David K. Johnson makes a convincing case that the gay political movement was the direct result of consumer capitalism. As for big business, Pride month has seen a whole host of corporate sponsors from Wells Fargo to T-Mobile. Even Google maps and Uber joined in, having rainbow-colored pins and cars on their apps. Indeed, it is difficult to think of a political movement with comparable corporate investment. Madeleine Kearns

Polling websites claim the party could potentially win between 27 and 30 direct mandates but could still be left with vacant seats. 9. Swedish Police Chief Tells Compatriots to ‘Get Used’ to Deadly Shootings (sputniknews, Jul 8, 2019)
    https://sputniknews.com/europe/201907081076180851-swedish-police-chief-deadly-shootings/

“Despite Prime Minister Stefan Löfven’s pledge to “crack down” on rampant gangland violence in immigrant-heavy districts, the curve of weapons-related incidents has shot up in recent years.

Eleven people have been shot dead in Stockholm alone so far this year. This is as many as the whole of 2018. Throughout the country, 23 people have been shot dead in the first half of 2019, which exceeds last year’s record.

According to Chief of Police Anders Thornberg, this is the new normal.

Despite assuring his compatriots that the police’s capacity to handle criminal gangs will improve owing to staff expansion in the coming years, he doesn’t believe that the police will be able to “crack down” on the gangs, as Prime Minister Stefan Löfven earlier promised.

Instead, Thornberg called for Swedes to get used to violence in the years to come.

“This may continue for five to ten years in these particularly vulnerable areas”, Anders Thornberg told the newspaper Aftonbladet, using the popular euphemism that has replaced the term “ghetto” in political and media parlance.

According to Thornberg, the shootings are closely linked to drug trafficking.

“It’s about drugs too. Drugs are deeply rooted in the community and it is ordinary people who buy them. There is a market, and the gangs are fighting for it. Much is about drug trafficking”, Thornberg explained.

According to him, all of Swedish society must contribute to stopping serious crime.

“In the long run, it is a vital issue for Sweden to crack this trend. It will have consequences you commit crimes when young. From the police side, we cannot solve this overnight. We want all the good forces in society to do their job”, Thornberg said.

This past Sunday, Stockholm alone saw three different shootings in a matter of four and a half hours, prompting strong condemnation.

“We have an acute security crisis. There were three different shootings in Stockholm this Sunday. Just talking about leisure centres doesn’t help anymore”, Moderate party legal spokesman Johan Forsell told Expressen.

Forsell predicted that this development will escalate.

“Society is becoming increasingly raw. In June, there were 41 shootings in a single month, which is a new record. Unfortunately, I believe we will see even more of them”, Forsell ventured.

The number of shootings in Sweden has increased exponentially in recent years, which the police attribute to gang conflicts in “particularly vulnerable areas”, that is areas marked by urban blight, immigration, unemployment, and rampant crime. According to a report by the National Operational Department, residents in such areas are often too terrified to turn to the authorities for fear of retaliation.

A 2019 police report listed 60 “vulnerable areas”, with many of them sharing an overwhelming percentage of non-Swedes, such as Stockholm’s Alby, Fittja and Rinkeby or Örebro’s Vivalla, where up to 90 percent of residents are of immigrant descent. Several Swedish politicians condemned the publication of such lists, calling this practice “stigmatisation” and urging to abandon it altogether.”

  10. Somali Al-Shabaab Executes at Least 10 for Alleged Espionage – Reports (sputniknews, Jul 8, 2019)
    https://sputniknews.com/africa/201907081076179551-somali-al-shabaab-executes-at-least-10-for-alleged-espionage—reports/

“Militants from the al-Shabaab terrorist group have reportedly executed at least 10 people in the south of Somalia over the past week. Radio France International Afrique reported late on Sunday that the first five, who were suspected of spying for Kenyan, Somali, and US intelligence, were killed on 3 July.

According to the broadcaster, the other five suspected spies were executed the next day. The executions reportedly took place in the south of Somalia, where al-Shabaab militants control vast territories.

The executions are reportedly carried out in public spaces as a means of intimidating local residents, the broadcaster claimed, adding that those living near the group’s compounds are usually the ones accused of espionage activities.

Al-Shabaab, which reportedly emerged in Somalia in 2006, is allied with the al-Qaeda terrorist organisation. Somalia has been engulfed in violence since the eruption of a civil war between clan-based armed groups in the early 1990s. Al-Shabaab has been staging numerous attacks across the country in an attempt to impose Sharia law.

In June, two explosions occurred near the parliamentary building and a busy intersection on the road to the international airport in Mogadishu, leaving at least nine dead and 25 injured. Al-Shabaab claimed responsibility for the attack.

  11. Danish History Professor Calls for a Wall Around Europe to Stop Immigration (sputniknews, Jul 8, 2019)
    https://sputniknews.com/europe/201907081076180318-danish-history-professor-calls-for-a-wall-around-europe-to-stop-immigration/

“Otherwise, Uffe Østergaard argued, a rift between Eastern, Western and Southern Europe in handling immigration is inevitable.

Danish history professor Uffe Østergaard has proposed building a wall around Europe to stop immigration. Integration, he argued, has been a failure.

“After World War II, there was a strong belief that the Nordic welfare state model was so robust and attractive that it could integrate all ‘strangers’”, Uffe Østergaard argued in an opinion piece in the daily newspaper Politiken. By his own admission, he too used to share this opinion, but later thought better of it and drifted away from multiculturalism.

According to him, the time has come for the EU to build a border wall with “wire fences in four lanes, floodlights and watchtowers” as a necessary means of protecting Europe’s frontiers. Otherwise, Østergaard believes, there will be an imminent split between Eastern, Western and Southern Europe over contradictory views on the management of immigration, particularly the welfare variety.

“Protecting borders is necessary, otherwise the population will rebel against the government”, he wrote.

Professor Østergaard argued that the time is ripe for politicians to admit that integration has failed.

“Ghettos are a good example of parallel societies that arise. The integration has not failed for everyone, but for relatively many people”, Østergaard wrote in Politiken.

Uffe Østergaard also wants to see the assimilation of immigrants instead of integration, and he believes that all residents should accept the “Lutheran virtues” prevalent in Danish society.

74-year-old Uffe Østergaard is a Danish historian specialising in European identity history. He is a Jean Monnet professor of European civilisation and integration at Aarhus University and professor of European and Danish history at Copenhagen Business School. In the 2000s, he served a the head of the department of Holocaust and Genocide Studies at the Danish Institute for International Studies.

Østergaard’s primary interest is European identity from the 16th century onwards. His interest is particularly related to multicultural and multiethnic states such as Austria-Hungary and the Ottoman Empire and their successor states. Østergaard’s extensive authorship includes: “The Faces of Europe” (1992) and “Europe: Identity and Identity Politics” (1998).

The pattern of increased immigration to Europe from other continents began in the mid-20th century and culminated in the 2015 migrant crisis. Between 2008 and 2017, the 28 EU countries received over 5 million asylum requests, mostly from Muslim majority countries from the Middle East and Africa.

While Denmark has pursued a stricter immigration policy compared with the fellow Scandinavian nation of Sweden, close to 800,000 of Denmark’s population of 5.8 million (over 13 percent) are immigrants and their descendants. Of them, 500,000 are non-Western immigrants, according to Statistics Denmark.”

  13. Goodbye Aberration: Physicist Solves 2,000-Year-Old Optical Problem

In his 1690 book, Treatise on Light, astronomer Christiaan Huygens points out that both Isaac Newton (the greatest scientist of all time) and Gottfried Leibniz (the last universal genius) tried to solve the problem, but couldn’t:

As has in fact occurred to two prominent Geometricians, Messieurs Newton and Leibnitz, with respect to the problem of the figure of glasses for collecting rays when one of the surfaces is given.

It is appropriate to mention that Newton invented a telescope that solved the chromatic aberration, but not the spherical aberration.

In a 1949 article published in the Royal Society Proceedings, Wasserman and Wolf formulated the problem—how to design a lens without spherical aberration—in an analytical way, and it has since been known as the Wasserman-Wolf problem.

They “proposed to use two aspheric adjacent surfaces to correct spherical and coma aberrations, with a solution consisting of two first-order simultaneous differential equations, which are solved numerically according to Malacara-Hernández et al.”

In other words, the solution was an approximation solved with numerical analysis (brute-force with computers), not a definitive one. Moreover, the solution involved aspherical elements, which are harder to manufacture in a precise way and are thus more costly.

To this day, when you see that your lens has aspherical elements to correct for optical aberrations and give you sharper images wide open, you can thank Wasserman-Wolf.

However, the importance of solving this problem goes well beyond giving you a sharper picture of your feet for your nine Instagram followers. It would help make better and cheaper to manufacture optical systems in all areas, be it telescopes, microscopes, and everything in between.

As a measure of why this is so important: Try hefting a classic chunk of Nippon Kogaku optics like the ultra-classic Nikon Nikkor 105mm F/2.5 mid-telephoto lens. Comparing it by sheer weight alone to its successor bespeaks how the original, with its three grouping, penta element, Zeiss-derived, single coating design has more glass than some cathedrals. In the preceding image, that central, double-convex aspheric weighs more than many non-professional digital cameras, OEM lens and battery included.

A glance at this vintage versus newer generation side-by-side makes obvious a few things: A major reduction in the mass of the glass has (not necessarily in a desirable way) been achieved through the use of multi-layer, chromatic aberration corrective optical coatings. This is obvious from the characteristic lustrous coloration of surfaces on the newer elements.

Also clearly visible is the distinctly reduced primary aperture cross-section (i.e., diameter). I’ve evaporated and plasma deposited these same sort of coatings and there’s no way that their presence can entirely make up for the overall amount of photonic energy (i.e., arriving light) that’s gathered by a whopping hunk of glass. Yes, it’s just that simple.

This becomes critical when, as is my preference, work is being done entirely by natural light. Less massive optics have their virtues in ease-of-production, decreased weight, and smaller form factor, but they never can make up for those absent photons.

Nevertheless, if this solution to the Wasserman-Wolf problem works out, a combination of advances in numerical modeling, materials selection, and corrective micro-layers may enable extremely low cost, multi-lens systems (e.g., 360° remote viewing and drone vision). Literally, optics that currently price out at several dollars per iPhone, may suddenly requalify as disposable or single-use.

After the site of the fire had been inspected for the first time on Friday, the 5th of July 2019, today on Monday, the 8th of July 2019, a new inspection with fire experts took place. Indications were found that a possible arson could be the cause of the fire. More precise information cannot be provided at present for reasons of investigation.A valuation of the damage incurred is very difficult due to the historical value, but experts assume a minimum of 500,000 euros.

  17. Deutsche Bank shares turn negative as lender gets ready for major overhaul

Deutsche Bank shares turned negative after initially jumping nearly 4% in early morning trade on Monday as the German lender announced a mass restructuring program over the weekend. In one of its boldest overhauls, the bank will see 18,000 jobs cut by 2022 and the closure of its global equities sales and trading business in a bid to improve profitability.

The bank expects the sweeping reforms, which also involve the creation of a 74 billion euro ($83.05 billion) “bad bank,” to cost 7.4 billion euros by 2022. With second-quarter results due on July 25, Deutsche is expected to report a net loss of 2.8 billion euros.

Deutsche Bank Chief Financial Officer James von Moltke told CNBC’s Annette Weisbach on Sunday that this will be the last strategy overhaul, aiming to reduce global headcount to around 74,000 and cut adjusted costs by a quarter to 17 billion euros.

Several sources have told CNBC that layoffs at the bank’s offices in New York begin on Monday.

    • Trump is a huge headache for Deutsche, but the bank has plenty more

Investigations surrounding Deutsche Bank’s more than decade-long relationship with President Donald Trump and his business have created a crisis for the German financial giant.

It’s caught in a legal tug of war between Trump and House Democrats for the president’s financial records and calls for broad investigations of its anti-money laundering practices.

But for the 150-year old bank, Trump is just the beginning of its problems.

Once a global powerhouse, catering to the U.S. elite from a tower on Wall
Street, Deutsche Bank’s fortunes have waned. Sunday, it announced a major restructuring, including ending its global equities business and reducing its investment bank operations.

The restructuring reportedly will mean a reduction of 18,000 jobs by 2022. The news followed an announcement Friday that Deutsche Bank’s investment banking chief, Garth Ritchie, was stepping down by mutual agreement.

Shareholders are growing increasingly frustrated by the bank’s lackluster profits and growing legal bills. The bank’s stock dipped to record lows in recent months, though it has rebounded some recently.

At its annual meeting in Frankfurt, shareholders quizzed company executives for more than nine hours over a series of missteps that have kept the bank under pressure.

“I’m leading a bank that is undoubtedly going through a challenging period,” said Deutsche Bank CEO Christian Sewing, who has been at the bank for more than 20 years and became chief executive in 2018. “I want to bring back the pride people feel in working for Deutsche Bank. This is crucial for motivation.” Deutsche was prepared to make “tough cutbacks,” he told shareholders.

The bank reported a profit for the first time since 2014 last year, but shareholders are still not satisfied.

Deutsche “used to be the biggest lender in Germany,” said Firdaus Ibrahim, a CFRA equity analyst. Its “relevance has been declining over the years.”

Naval forces belonging to the Saudi-led coalition on Monday thwarted an attack against a commercial ship in the Red Sea, purportedly carried out by the Houthi group.

Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia have intensified in recent months. The movement has launched a series of drone attacks on two Saudi airports, killing one Syrian resident and injuring dozens of civilians, including children.

  23. Trump Compares Ocasio-Cortez To Nazi Sympathizer, AOC Takes It As A Compliment

President Donald Trump compared socialist Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) to former Argentine first lady Eva Perón — often called “Evita” — in a new book that is set to go on sale in mid-July. Ocasio-Cortez took the comparison as a compliment, despite the fact that Evita was a Nazi sympathizer who helped her husband, Argentine President Juan Perón, destroy Argentina’s economy by implementing socialism and eroded civil liberties in the nation.

  24. A Flight Guide to Middle East Politics

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: The flight schedules of the major airports in the states of the Middle East provide an excellent window into regional politics. The absence of air traffic between Israel, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt to Iran reflects the tacit alliance of the three, while the abundance of connections between Istanbul and Qatar and Iranian destinations reflects the counter-Sunni alliance. Flight data also help us to gauge the extent to which Assad’s Syria has been restored.

A burning question in the Middle East today is the firmness of the tacit alliance among Israel, Saudi Arabia, and other Arab Sunni states against Iran.

A look at flight schedules of the major airports in these states provides a useful window into this and other questions related to Middle East politics.

How can we tell that the most important of the Sunni Arab states regards Iran as a major danger? Try booking a direct flight from Cairo to Tehran. The cities are a mere 1,230 miles apart, or less than the distance between New York and Miami. They are two of the three major megalopolises in the Middle East (the third is Istanbul). Yet there are no direct flights between these capitals, nor have there been for at least a decade.

  25. When British Justice Died
    Another guilty verdict for Tommy.
    July 8, 2019
    Bruce Bawer

Trial by trial, imprisonment by imprisonment, dishonest news report by dishonest news report, the miserable bastards who make up the British establishment are steadily transforming Tommy Robinson, a working-class husband and father from Luton, into an imperishable symbol of the quiet determination, indomitable courage, and love of liberty for which Britain used to be known but which that selfsame establishment has labored effortfully to stamp out during these opening chapters of the Islamization of that once-great nation.

Even those of us who have been closely following Tommy’s treatment by the British courts during the past couple of years – and who, perusing the charges against him, have recognized just how outrageously he has been treated by a judiciary committed not to justice but to the silencing, and if possible personal destruction, of this latter-day Jeremiah – were stunned by the verdict handed down on Friday after a two-day trial.

This was a rehearing of the same case that last year landed Tommy in prison (more specifically, in what amounted, in violation of the Geneva Convention, to solitary confinement), an ordeal from which he emerged, after two months, looking physically and psychologically all but broken. The charges themselves were absurd to begin with: he was taken into custody near the courthouse in Leeds, where he was doing a live report on Facebook video about an “Asian grooming-gang” (i.e. Muslim child-rape) prosecution that was underway inside. He didn’t do or say anything that any BBC or Guardian journalist in similar circumstances might do; but he was arrested anyway – on the grounds that his reporting from out on the street had somehow threatened to prejudice the trial going on inside the building – and was charged with contempt of court.

  26. ICE Ready to Act After Judge Issues ‘Final Deportation Orders’ to Millions

ICE officers are ready to round up and deport a million illegal immigrants with ‘final removal orders’ from a judge, Trump official says

Federal authorities are preparing to deport a million illegal immigrants, a top Trump official has said.

Ken Cuccinelli, the acting head of U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, said ICE officers would target a million people who have been handed ‘final removal orders’ by a judge.

Speaking to Face the Nation on CBS he insisted that ICE officers were just ‘doing their job’ and said deportations ‘should be going on on a rolling basis’, amid fierce political tensions over immigration.

President Trump last month promised that ‘millions of illegal aliens’ would be removed from the United States.

  27. African sexually coerces Israeli woman and rips her dress apart at Cologne central station, Germany — Now the police are investigating the Israeli woman+++
Last Saturday a man indecently touched a woman who resisted. Employees of the German Railways (Deutsche Bahn AG) settled the dispute. The drunken man bit one of the employees so that he had to undergo medical treatment. Shortly after 10 p.m., a 33-year-old Ghanaian stumbled across a 22-year-old Israeli woman on platform 10/11 of Cologne Central Station who came up to the platform by escalator. 29. US Man Pleads Guilty to Attempting to Join, Support Daesh (sputniknews, Jul 8, 2019)
    https://sputniknews.com/us/201907081076186566-us-man-pleads-guilty-to-attempting-to-join-support-daesh/

“A 20-year-old US citizen from Houston, Texas, has pleaded guilty to attempting to join and support Daesh, a US Department of Justice (DoJ) notice released Monday reveals.

Between August 2017 and his arrest in December 2017, Kaan Sercan Damlarkaya tried to support Daesh by providing information to other Daesh supporters about how to make and use explosive materials, construct automatic weapons and use machetes, the release says.

Damlarkaya was attempting to join Daesh overseas, according to the release, and beginning in August 2017, Damlarkaya had multiple conversations over the internet with other Daesh supporters, in which he described his desire to travel to Syria or Afghanistan to fight for Daesh. During those conversations, he also said that he intended to attack non-Muslims in the US if he found himself unable to join Daesh, because it was his “dream” to become a martyr.

In two different instances, Damlarkaya provided instructions to other Daesh supporters on how to construct bombs from the explosive triacetone triperoxide, also warning Daesh supporters to “take safety seriously while you make this” to be “useful until you can strike,” according to the press release.

Damlarkaya also offered other Daesh supporters information on how to manufacture automatic weapons and stated that he could purchase a “giant machete for $15.” He stated that “a lot of us are poor … or we don’t have experience. So not all of us can get a gun or make explosives, but we can afford to buy a $15 knife.” He also said that he slept with a machete under his pillow to attack law enforcement in the event they entered his home.

When Damlarkaya’s home was searched on a warrant by the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force, a machete was found beside his bed.

On Monday, US District Judge Andrew S. Hanen scheduled Damlarkaya’s sentencing for September 30. Damlarkaya, who will remain in custody until then, faces up to 20 years behind bars and a potential fine of up to $250,000.”

  31. Dozens of Illegal Boat Migrants Land in England over Weekend (breitbart, Jul 8, 2019)
    https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2019/07/08/dozens-illegal-boat-migrants-land-england-weekend/

“Over forty illegal migrants landed in England after taking to sea in boats over the weekend, according to reports.

Tens of thousands of illegal migrants attempt to break into the United Kingdom by forcing their way into Britain-bound lorries, boarding ferries, or storming the Channel Tunnel, but illegal sea crossings of the type seen in Greece, Italy, and Spain were quite rare until recently.

Now, hundreds of boat migrants, often identifying as Iranian, are coming across the narrow straits separating England and France — an advanced, first-world EU member-state — in vessels stolen from fishermen or, more often, in dangerous boats provided by criminal people-smugglers in exchange for significant sums of money.

More than forty such migrants arrived in England over the past weekend; a number on par with some of the shipments of illegal migrants being brought to Italy by supposed “rescue” NGOs which have been making headlines in recent weeks, yet much less prominently reported — perhaps because the British Home Office is not offering the same resistance to the illegal arrivals as Italy’s deputy prime minister and minister of the interior, Matteo Salvini….”

  32. ‘Misguided Political Correctness’: UK Govt Endorses Report Criticising Lack of Action Against Christian Persecution (breitbart, Jul 8, 2019)
    https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2019/07/08/misguided-political-correctness-uk-govt-endorses-report-criticising-lack-of-action-against-christian-persecution/

“Britain’s foreign secretary has embraced a new report that concludes Christians frequently endure the heaviest burden of persecution globally, arguing that it should be labeled as “Christophobia.”

Jeremy Hunt backed the report by Right Rev. Philip Mounstephen, the bishop of Truro. Hunt said that governments have preferred general language of condemnation rather than calling out persecution against Christians for what it is and giving it a name.

Hunt said Monday the government has not always grappled with the issue “perhaps because of a misguided political correctness or an instinctive reluctance to talk about religion.”

The report recommends that Britain push for a U.N. Security Council resolution urging governments in the Middle East and North Africa to protect Christians and other persecuted minorities.”

  33. European Union: Toward a European Superstate
“The EU is a Sham Democracy”

After weeks of frenzied backroom wrangling, European leaders on July 2 nominated four federalists to fill the top jobs of the European Union. The nominations — which must be approved by the European Parliament — send a clear signal that the pro-EU establishment has no intention of slowing its relentless march toward a European superstate, a “United States of Europe,” despite a surge of anti-EU sentiment across the continent.

Following are brief profiles of the nominees for the top four positions in the next European Commission, which begins on November 1, 2019 for a period of five years.
