           As we fight to either maintain or regain our freedom is will help us to know that we have been in massive trouble before and it looked like the US was doomed. Then President Reagan was elected and used economic pressure to collapse the Soviet Union. While Obama was in office it looked like the US was lost and then The Donald was elected and once again economic pressure is the major weapon being used to (hopefully) destroy the two major enemies of China and Iran.

           I am optimistic that the economic pressure will cause our enemies to collapse but don’t know if this will happen before the major war starts, possibly being the cause of the major war. Of if it will happen after the war starts with the need to take money from the public to use on the military causes their economies to collapse.

           China and Iran (Russia to a lesser extent) are facing the age old problem of having to choose between guns and butter. Do they spend on the military (guns) to be able to defeat their enemies on the battlefield or do the spend on social problems (butter) to keep the population quiet. Being totalitarians both China and Iran are spending a lot for military force. Partially to have the force to keep the people under control. Both nations would be in better shape if they spend less on internal security, gave the people more freedom and spent the money on infrastructure that helps the people.

           The US on the other hand has been spending on butter (bribes to vote Dem) rather then the military to secure our borders. Because of this combined with the left using uncontrolled immigration to destabilize the western nations, many of which have spent very little on their military establishments preferring to shelter under the US umbrella and bribe their people to become more and more dependent on the government.

           The US needs much better border security (as does all of the European Nations) while the European Nations also need internal security forces to stop the invaders. Although given the current governments in Western Europe if they had better internal security they would be using it to oppress their citizens/subjects.

           As always, keep your musket clean, your powder dry and watch your back. It isn’t as bad as the places in the middle east where we have people or as bad as Nam was (for part of that war) but we are headed into a time when to an extent we won’t know who to trust behind us and who will stab us in the back.

         Also, I cannot agree with you more about Heinlein. It’s doubtful there’s been a single movie made of his work that’s worth burning just to piss on the flames.

         Please consider reading the modern sci-fi work of Peter Hamilton. His writing is in the tradition of Heinlein, Clarke, Asimov, Bradbury, Hamilton, and the usual suspects. You’ll revel in his positive adaptations of biotechnology and genetic modification.

         Best of all is how he weaves these earth-shaking innovations right into the story’s backdrop and then goes on to make all of the (dramatically complex) finer moral and ethical conjectures from those suppositions. This includes some fabulous hard-science projections of advanced technologies like self-repairing, coral-based, bio-engineered space habitats (just like the egg-crate spaceship in Alien).

         A great place to start is his collection of shorts, “A Second Chance at Eden”. It’s like a box of chocolates that you want to finish in a sitting.

       • What will happen when one of the precious metal asteroids is moved into earth orbit and we start mining it? That is easy to answer, pretty much what happened when Spain seized the vast amounts of Gold in Mexico and further south and shipped them back to Europe. Massive turmoil with the other European Nations deciding to move out and explore the rest of the world trying to find another mother load to exploit. Hopefully it won’t destroy the nations that moves the asteroid like the sudden influx of gold destroyed Spain, but given what is going on every nation on earth will be in flux to the extent that they can probably change enough to avoid collapsing.

         Prior to the discovery of the massive wealth in the Hispanic portion of the Americas gold was scarcer and there was a massive difference in the prices of Gold and Silver. Most people had never seen much if any gold and considered measured wealth by how much silver people had. The massive spread between the price of Gold and Silver has only returned since Nixon unpegged the dollar from gold. Since then we have returned to the time when most people can’t afford gold rings and are suing electrum (white gold) to make their jewelry.

         The good thing that will happen from this is the rush to explore the Solar System and beyond to find more riches to exploit, this will get our precious eggs out of one basket and spread them across the galaxy. The unknown suspect then reached into the pram with his left hand and choked the baby’s neck. Instinctively, the mother tried to knock his hand away, but this didn’t succeed immediately. Thereupon she pulled an animal repellent spray out of her pocket and sprayed it into the face of the stranger.
    He then staggered back and fell down. At that moment the tram stopped at the Stötteritzer station, where the mother got out with the pram and ran home. She then informed the police. An emergency doctor was called and examined the baby, which did not suffer any injuries and was healthy.     For the second time in a week, a body has been found in a Florida waterway in the clutches of an alligator.

    The St. Petersburg Police Department responded on Thursday morning after a body was found in the mangroves of Lake Maggiore, according to a press release.

    Media reports said witnesses saw the body being dragged around and surrounded by multiple alligators.

    “I seen the gator chomping on it,” Otis Crawford told WFTS, an ABC affiliate serving Tampa Bay. WFTS said Crawford called police after seeing the body.

    “I walked out onto the dock out there, took a video and kind’ve determined it’s something.” he told WFTS. “I’m glad I noticed before the gator got the body into the bushes and then nobody would have ever known.”

      “The bear was not aggressive,” Kennedy said. Officers tracked the bear on its tour through suburbia, generally keeping their vehicles between themselves and the animal estimated to weigh about 200 pounds.

      As sunrise approached, police were concerned residents would head out on the holiday morning and encounter the furry interloper. Officers contacted residents near where the bear had been, and asked neighborhood associations to send out email alerts, Kennedy said.

    The largest-ever modern slavery ring uncovered in the UK has been broken up after a three-year investigation into its activities. Some of its 400 victims worked for as little as 50p a day.

    Their labour earned millions for members of a criminal gang led by a Polish criminal family, which preyed on the homeless, ex-prisoners and alcoholics from Poland. Gang members were jailed on Friday.

    Regional newspapers Diario de Mallorca and Ultima Hora cited police as saying that the woman got to know the men when they were out partying and voluntarily went with them to the hotel room.

    Ultima Hora said the victim’s testimony described how two of her attackers then pounced on her, and despite her protests, one of them held her hands while the other performed a sex act.

    According to media reports, the men filmed the rape on their phones.

    After the alleged attack, the young woman immediately went to the police and filed a complaint.

    A medical examination found the victim had sustained injuries consistent with a recent sexual assault.

    Three of the men were due to appear in court on Friday, accused of gang rape, aiding and abetting, and concealing a crime.

    If convicted, they could face up to 15 years’ imprisonment.

    MILAN (Reuters) – A migrant rescue boat docked at the port of Lampedusa on Saturday in defiance of a ban on entering Italian waters, the second NGO vessel to clash with Italian authorities in a week.

    The vessel Alex, carrying a number of migrants, declined a Maltese offer to go to Malta, as the Mediterranea NGO operating it said such a long journey would have been dangerous for the people aboard.

    The boat docked at the same quay where a week ago another NGO vessel collided with an Italian police boat after deciding to let migrants disembark after two weeks in international waters.

    A charity boat carrying 41 rescued migrants has docked in an Italian port despite a ban on it doing so.

    The captain of the Alex decided to leave international waters for Lampedusa’s port because of the “intolerable hygienic conditions”.

    Matteo Salvini, Italy’s interior minister, had vowed to block them.

    Last year, he closed Italian ports to rescue ships and Italy has introduced fines for anyone sailing into its waters without permission.

    The migrants on board the Alex, run by the Mediterranea charity, have not yet disembarked in Lampedusa.

    Images from the port showed a heavy police presence waiting on the pier next to the ship.

    Meanwhile, another NGO ship, the Alan Kurdi – operated by German charity Sea-Eye – is afloat in international waters just outside Lampedusa, carrying another 65 people.

    It comes a week after a different ship, the Sea-Watch 3, forced a landing on Lampedusa after being stranded at sea for two weeks. Its captain, Carola Rackete, was arrested and accused of endangering the lives of police and trying to sink their boat.

    A judge ordered her freed, though she still faces separate charges of aiding people smugglers and resisting authorities.

    When the Alex announced its intention to land at Lampedusa on Saturday, Mr Salvini took to Twitter to declare law enforcement agencies “ready to intervene”.

    In an apparent reference to the court order which freed Ms Rackete, he added: “In a serious country, arrests and seizure… would be immediate: what will the judges do this time?”

    Italy has been one of the main destinations for migrants attempting to reach Europe via the North Africa route, mostly from Libya. People smugglers often load inflatable dinghies and other craft unsuited to the journey with dozens of people, many of which end up adrift and in need of rescue.

    Mr Salvini insists that such boats be intercepted by the Libyan coast guard, which has received EU funding to boost its capabilities.

    Last month, new laws passed by his government by emergency decree created fines of up to €50,000 (£45,000; $56,000) for vessels that sail to Italian ports without permission.

    When the Alan Kurdi announced it was following the Alex to Lampedusa despite the risk, it tweeted: “We are not intimidated by a Minister of Interior but instead head towards the nearest port of safety.”

    “The law of the sea applies, even when some government representatives refuse to believe that.”

    Many rescue ships and organisations do not consider Libya a place of safety under applicable international law.

    Italy’s hard-line interior minister Matteo Salvini — who has barred all private rescue ships from entering Italian ports — reacted angrily to the move with a series of rapid-fire tweets, starting with notice that the ship had “broken the law, ignored bans to enter Italian waters.”

    The maneuver was very similar to one made by a German rescue ship one week ago that disobeyed direct orders from port officials to moor in Lampedusa — but apparently without the dramatic counter-maneuvers by Italian authorities that led to the German ship’s knocking against a police boat that attempted to block it.

    The group, which evacuated 13 passengers to the Italian Coast Guard on Friday due to medical conditions, cited “intolerable hygienic conditions on board,” for its decision to head into port. It said Lampedusa “is the only possible safe port for landing,” as the ship was already in Italian territorial waters.

    Meanwhile, the German humanitarian group Sea-Eye also said its rescue ship Alan Kurdi with 65 rescued people on board was sailing toward the Italian island of Lampedusa. But the group indicated that it would wait in international waters, and not seek an immediate confrontation.

    Salvini, after the Alex docked, said he would deny the Alan Kurdi any request to enter port.

    Earlier, Sea-Eye said “we are not intimidated” by Salvini, “but instead head toward the nearest port of safety.” Thirty-nine of its rescued passengers claim to be minors, the youngest of whom is 12, and 48 fled Somalia, Sea-Eye said.

    In Berlin, German Interior Minister Horst Seehofer said Saturday that, as in previous cases, Germany would be prepared to take some of the migrants on board the Alan Kurdi and the Alex “in the framework of a European solution in solidarity.” He said he had informed the European Commission of that Friday and asked it to coordinate.

    Seehofer, who himself has taken a restrictive line on migration, also urged his Italian counterpart to rethink his policy of closing the country’s harbors to humanitarian groups’ rescue ships.

    The scenario involving the Italian-flagged ship Alex is very similar to that of the Dutch-flagged Sea-Watch 3, which docked at Lampedusa last Saturday after 17 days at sea without receiving any indication that an offer of a port of safety was imminent for the remaining 40 migrants. The captain, 31-year-old Carola Rackete, is under investigation for defying orders and allegedly aiding illegal immigration. A German citizen, she was freed from house arrest by a judge who said the threat involved when the rescue ship bumped against a police boat should be kept in perspective. The migrants remain on the island.

    Salvini appeared to be reacting to the fact Rackete is not jailed when he railed on Twitter after the Alex’s docking:

    “And by breaking the law, these jackals are putting at risk the lives of these migrants on board,” Salvini continued on Twitter. “Will they also remain unpunished? In a serious country, arrests and seizure of the vessel would be immediate. What will the judges do this time???”

    Italy has insisted that the Libyan coast guard intervene in all off-shore rescues and the migrants be taken back to Libya. NGOs say that would be against maritime law since Libya is not considered a safe harbor, as evidenced by the bombing of a migrant center this week that killed dozens. They also say that Italy is violating maritime law by not providing a safe port to ships carrying out rescues at sea.

    Italy argues that the presence of the ships encourages smugglers — something the NGOs deny — and that Italy has been unfairly stuck with the burden of managing arrivals from northern Africa for the rest of Europe.”

    EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: I recently visited North Korea – a choice viewed by some as an automatic legitimization of the regime, though visits by foreigners do not by any means connote blanket approval of the government. On the contrary: they provide an opportunity to view the country first-hand and draw one’s own conclusions. The visitor must always bear in mind, however, that the view the government permits him to have of the country is closely proscribed.

    In April 2019, I visited North Korea on a private organized tour, which means I was the only tourist in the group. The format allowed me to focus on things that interested me and to ask many questions. I was accompanied around the clock by two wonderful North Korean tour guides and a driver. The sites I was able to visit were those places designated by the government as permissible for foreigners. (Due to the US sanctions, financial transactions are not allowed with North Korea. The North Korean tourism industry thus operates on a cash-only basis, or with foreign companies that bypass the sanctions.)

    Visiting North Korea as a foreign tourist raises the ethical question of political legitimization. While some claim that the very act of visiting legitimizes the regime, I would argue that visiting the country does not connote approval of the government. North Korea, like other problematic states, might try to use the fact of foreign tourism as an indicator of legitimacy, but tourists do not automatically conform to the government’s preferred way of thinking. They are free to draw their own conclusions from their visit, depending on their own political and social ideologies. In most cases, the experience of visiting the DPRK does not change foreign tourists’ attitude about it.

    Those who hold this view would apparently rather see the country fail than see President Trump do well. Rooting for President Trump to fail in his policy with Iran means calling for empowering and emboldening a theocratic regime that has consistently threatened “Death to America” — with nukes, presumably, if it had the capability, which it is busy acquiring.

    The core revolutionary pillars of this Iranian government are anti-Americanism and anti-Semitism. This country, which some people say they would like to see prevail over President Trump, has also been named, several times, the leading executioner of children.
