Stephanopoulos asked, “You clearly believe there was a group of people working against you. Do you think President Obama was behind it?”
Trump said, “I would say that he certainly must have known about it because it went very high up in the chain. But you’re going to find that out. I’m not going to make that statement quite yet. But I would say that President Obama had to know about it.”
When asked if Obama spied on his campaign, Trump said, “I don’t know. But hopefully, we’re gonna find out.”

The Italian government is proposing issuing a new form of currency. But why? And what would it mean for the euro?
Why does Italy’s government want to introduce a new currency?
The Italian government is threatening to launch a “parallel currency” in the country as a riposte to EU demands for it to rein in its massive (and growing) public debt.
After pushing ahead with a controversial big-spending budget, Italy is now heading for record high levels of public debt, zero growth, and possibly €3.5bn in fines from the European Commission on top.
But Italy’s League party, which is part of the ruling coalition governent, wants to increase public spending further. It insists the solution is not to cut back – but instead to introduce another kind of currency.
The threat of introducing another currency is also seen as an attempt to push the European Commission into changing current fiscal rules.
Does Italy want to get rid of the euro?
The idea is that this “parallel currency” would be used alongside the euro, as you wouldn’t be able to spend it online or outside of Italy.
While some politicians in Italy’s populist government are staunchly against the euro, there’s no public appetite in Italy for leaving the eurozone.
Leaving the European Union is not on the table either, despite reports in some UK newspapers to the contrary.
The League and its coalition partner, the Five Star Movement, both have a history of euroscepticism, but both parties have given up on the idea of getting rid of the euro and their programme contains nothing that questions Italy’s membership of the single currency.
Italy is talking about issuing treasury notes called “minibots” which could only be used within the country.
An acronym for Mini Bills of Treasury, the minibot is an instrument similar to an IOU that its proponents believe will allow the cash-strapped Italian government to pay debts, stimulate the Italian economy and give Italians a way to pay their taxes.
The government could use minibots to pay social benefits and accept them for tax payments. Private businesses would not be required to accept them, although they apparently could if they wanted to.
Claudio Borghi, the League’s economics chief, who is the main proponent of the scheme and staunchly anti-euro, said the certificates would quickly become accepted more widely and used as a form of money to be “spent anywhere, to buy anything,” though “being paper they could not be used online.”
What would this do to the economy?
Borghi said minibot treasury notes would stimulate Italy’s economy, and would be “a way to mobilise credit that is badly needed and put money into circulation.”
But critics have already called the proposed parallel currency “the new Lira” and say it would just increase Italy’s public debt even more (Italy already has the highest debt in the Eurozone, after Greece.)
“Italy might be able to use mini-bots (or let’s be honest and call them the new lira) to finance deficit spending without breaking eurozone rules” Economist John Mauldin wrote in Forbes last summer when the idea of a parallel currency was first suggested.
“This could ultimately debase the euro and blow apart the eurozone. Germany would have to leave. From there, you can draw your own map,” he added.
Some critics of the scheme believe the parallel currency would have the wider aim of allowing Italy’s economy to continue to function if it left the eurozone and the EU.
Has any other European country done this before?
The idea was last proposed in Greece as the country faced a shortage of euros following the financial crisis.
Greece looked at introducing a parallel currency for some domestic transactions, while keeping the euro in place for existing bank deposits and for foreign transactions. The plan was ultimately abandoned as unworkable.

Well during the last (French) election campaign (followed by the coronation of “Jupiter” aka “Macron”) Marine LePen (*) started to make noises about reverting from the Euro to the French Franc. Unfortunately, as so often, she gave into pressure from the “experts” and assorted bullies and parked her good ideas in the seemingly safe parking zones.
It probably shows my lack of financial know-how, but simply for this (perhaps somewhat kamikaze) action having the potential of being a first stone loosened from the wall and dismantling the EU (not the REAL Europe, that of Souverain States) but the corrupt EU I welcome anyone who rattles that nasty nest of parasites, be it re-introducing the Lire or the Deutsch Mark (some in the AfD – Alternative for Deutschland – do it too). If Salvini would be onside …. so would I…..

The two turn voting and proportional voting were designed to ensure almost constant leftist wins.
Both sides of this issue have some valid points, the Euro is a trap that all of the European Nations have to get out of, but the critics are right another debt backed fiet currency will increase the Italian debt and in the long run lead to economic collapse. (Fiat currencies work as long as public believes the various governments will find some way to pay for the printed paper.) If Italy is going to do this they should go whole hog ditch the Marxist Keynesian economics and move to Austrian Economic. It is probably too late for any nation to do this but we will eventually be forced to return to reality and abandon the fiat currencies.

When considering that Italy ranks right up there with Greece for overall incompetent economic management, how would “the new Lira” be anything be a fiat currency? It’s not as if Rome will back their new non-wartime scrip (because that’s what it is) with gold or some other obscure monetary standard.

Again, this is just a work-around that permits Italian government (i.e., legitimized) Mafiosi to print more money. Confusing this with any sort of Brexit from the EU would be a major error.
Italy’s plan to exit the EU is like that of a teenager who gets pregnant to exact revenge upon her strict parents. Both will achieve their ends splendidly but are likely to cause permanent damage.
We haven’t heard much about the PIIGS lately but I have a hunch that we will start hearing more about them (and other European Nations) soon.

Millions of people have been affected by a massive power failure in Argentina which is also impacting Uruguay.
Argentina and Uruguay have been left without power after a “failure in the electrical interconnection system”.
Edusur, a major provider to the two nations, confirmed the outage in a tweet.
Argentine website Infobae said Edusar confirmed “the blackout is at a country level and also affects Uruguay” and said nothing like this had ever happened.

LONDON — The United Kingdom will send elite forces to the Gulf of Oman to protect its warships amid rising tensions with Iran, according to The Sunday Times.
The planned deployment follows Thursday’s attacks on two oil tankers, which the U.S. has blamed on Iran. British Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt on Friday said the U.K. would make its own assessment, but believed the U.S. claim that Tehran was behind the incident.

Saudi Arabia blames Iran for tanker attacks but doesn’t want war
RIYADH, June 15 (Reuters) – Saudi Arabia’s crown prince blamed Iran for attacks on two oil tankers in the Gulf of Oman and called on the international community to take a “decisive stand” but said in an interview published on Sunday that the kingdom does not want a war in the region.
Attacks on two oil tankers on Thursday, which the United States also blamed on Iran, have raised fears of broader confrontation in the region. Iran has denied any role in the strikes south of the Strait of Hormuz, a vital shipping route and major transit route for oil.
The explosions that damaged the Norwegian-owned Front Altair and the Japanese-owned Kokuka Courageous occurred while Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe was in Tehran trying to help ease rising tensions between the United States and Iran.
“The Iranian regime did not respect the Japanese prime minister’s visit to Tehran and while he was there replied to his efforts by attacking two tankers, one of which was Japanese,” Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman was quoted as saying in an interview with the Saudi-owned Asharq al-Awsat newspaper.

JAPAN TODAY – Japan demands more proof from U.S. that Iran attacked tankers
TOKYO – The Japanese government has been requesting the United States for concrete evidence to back its assertion that Iran is to blame for the attacks on two tankers near the Strait of Hormuz on Thursday, government sources said Sunday.
The request came after U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo gave a statement hours after the attacks blaming Iran but without offering proof. The Department of Defense later released a video allegedly showing an Iranian patrol boat removing an unexploded mine attached to the side of the Japanese-operated tanker Kokuka Courageous.
But Japanese government officials remain unconvinced, the sources said. “The U.S. explanation has not helped us go beyond speculation,” said one senior government official.
Japan has been seeking more concrete evidence through various channels, including Foreign Minister Taro Kono who is likely to have made the request during a call with his counterpart on Friday, the sources said.
Pompeo said in a press conference Thursday that the United States’ assessment was based on their “intelligence, the weapons used, the level of expertise needed to execute the operation, recent similar Iranian attacks on shipping, and the fact that no proxy group operating in the area has the resources and proficiency to act with such a high degree of sophistication.”
A source close to Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said, “These are not definite proof that it’s Iran.”
“Even if it’s the United States that makes the assertion, we cannot simply say we believe it,” he said.
If having expertise sophisticated enough to conduct the attack could be a reason to conclude that the attacker was Iran, “That would apply to the United States and Israel as well,” said a source at the Foreign Ministry.
The attacks occurred around the time Abe was meeting with Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in Tehran.
“The attacks have severely affected the prime minister’s reputation as he was trying to be a mediator between the United States and Iran,” said the source close to the premier. “It is a serious concern, and making mistakes when determining facts is impermissible.”
The Japanese government has refrained so far from commenting on who is responsible for the attacks.

Speaking from a conference in Central Asia, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said, it is ‘necessary’ that all sides of the 2015 nuclear pact show ‘positive signals’ to Iran.
Rouhani said they will continue to digress and ultimately withdraw from the international nuclear pact unless signatories take action to restore relations.
Since the U.S. unilaterally withdrew from the accord in 2018, Russia, China, Britain, France and Germany are the only remaining partners to the pact.
In response Russian President Vladimir Putin said he will double down on his commitments to Iran and urged other signatories to do the same.
‘Everyone is concerned about the state of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action to Iran’s nuclear program. The U.S. leaving this agreement has significantly unraveled its execution. We believe the only sensible decision is for all deal participants to honor their commitments. This is what Russia intends to do’ Putin said.
Iran did not specify what actions it will take or say what ‘positive signals’ it expects to see from its global partners.
‘Sea of black’ Hong Kong protesters demand leader step down
HONG KONG (Reuters) – Hundreds of thousands of black-clad protesters in Hong Kong demanded on Sunday that the city’s leader step down over her handling of a bill that would have allowed extradition to China and which sparked one of the most violent protests in decades.
Some carried white carnation flowers and others held banners saying, “Do not shoot, we are HongKonger” – an appeal to police who fired rubber bullets and tear gas at protesters on Wednesday, injuring more than 70 people.
The protesters formed a sea of black along roads, walkways and train stations across Hong Kong’s financial center to vent their frustration and anger at Hong Kong leader Carrie Lam.

The Trade War Is Just the Start of a US-China Cold War
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: Many observers view the current confrontation on trade between China and the US as temporary. However, the two countries have opposed geopolitical imperatives that make it highly unlikely that a long-term solution will be found. The US will have to consider how to contain China, which is a far more formidable competitor than the Soviet Union ever was. The US will need much more than a Cold War-style “containment” strategy to counter Chinese ambitions.
It has been au courant since the Ukrainian crisis of 2014 to profess that a new Cold War has begun between the West and Russia. Proponents of this view argue that Moscow has been waging almost the same level of war against the US as did the Soviets in the 20th century.
This view, which prevails among world politicians and the analytical community, mistakenly holds that Russia should and will be the focus of the West’s (primarily America’s) foreign policy.
Few view China as a true challenger to a US-led world. Many continue to believe that America’s trade war with China is temporary, even tactical – a battlefield on which Washington is simply trying to achieve better economic terms with the Asian giant. The argument goes that once the trade issue is resolved, Washington and Beijing will resume more or less normal relations.
But in fact, beyond trade issues, there is a plethora of other economically and militarily important areas in which the US and China have fundamentally different views.

Three years ago, the Italian government made a shameful decision. It veiled its antique Roman statues to avoid offending Iran’s visiting President Hassan Rouhani. Nude statues were encased in white boxes. A year earlier, in Florence, another statue featuring a naked man in Greco-Roman style had also been covered during the visit of the crown prince of Abu Dhabi. Now, one of the most famous British art galleries has covered two paintings, after Muslim complaints that they were “blasphemous”.
At the Saatchi Gallery in London, two works, again featuring nudes, this time overlaid with Arabic script, prompted complaints from Muslim visitors, who requested that the paintings be removed from the Rainbow Scenes exhibition. In the end, the paintings were covered with sheets. “The Saatchi is behaving like Saudi Arabia, hiding from public view artworks that blaspheme against Islam”, commented Brendan O’Neill on Spiked. One expert described the paintings as “The Satanic Verses all over again”. The reference was to the book by Salman Rushdie, a British citizen, published in 1988. Iran’s “Supreme Leader” Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini in 1989 condemned Rushdie to death for writing the book. The bounty on Rushdie’s head was increased to $4 million in 2016 when a group of Iranians added $600,000 to the “reward” — with no protest from Britain.
It was after Rushdie’s The Satanic Verses that many Western publishing houses began bowing to Islamist intimidation. Christian Bourgois, a French publishing house that had bought the rights, refused to publish The Satanic Verses. It was the first time that, in the name of Islam, a writer was condemned to disappear from the face of the earth — to be murdered for a bounty.

What do politicians do when they cannot do anything but are obliged to pretend that they are doing something?
One answer provided by Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, is simple: you organize a meeting.
The meeting that Lavrov is setting up, later this month in Moscow, will bring together junior diplomats from Iran plus Britain, China, France and Germany, that is to say the countries (aside from the US) that formed the notorious P5+1 group created by Barack Obama to give a veneer of legal respectability to the so-called “nuke deal” he concocted with the Iranian mullahs.
For all intents and purposes the “deal’ died when the Trump administration in Washington decided to simply ditch it. Lacking an enforceable legal status, the “deal” always depended on the willingness of the participants to implement it. With Americans walking away from it, there is no way the other nations still apparently in the game could put it on a life-support machine.
That leaves the remaining members of the P5+1 with a clear choice: either pronounce the Obama “deal” dead and seek a framework for new talks on how to solve the perennial “Iran problem” which, paradoxically, all say they are concerned about, or to unite to neutralize the United States and help Iran carry on as usual.

DOJ Admits FBI Never Saw Crowdstrike Report on DNC Russian Hacking Claim…
The foundation for the Russian election interference narrative is built on the claim of Russians hacking the servers of the Democrat National Committee (DNC), and subsequently releasing damaging emails that showed the DNC worked to help Hillary Clinton and eliminate Bernie Sanders.
Despite the Russian ‘hacking’ claim the DOJ previously admitted the DNC would not let FBI investigators review the DNC server. Instead the DNC provided the FBI with analysis of a technical review done through a cyber-security contract with Crowdstrike.
The narrative around the DNC hack claim was always sketchy; many people believe the DNC email data was downloaded onto a flash drive and leaked. In a court filing (full pdf below) the scale of sketchy has increased exponentially.
Suspecting they could prove the Russian hacking claim was false, lawyers representing Roger Stone requested the full Crowdstrike report on the DNC hack. When the DOJ responded to the Stone motion they made a rather significant admission. Not only did the FBI not review the DNC server, the FBI/DOJ never even saw the Crowdstrike report.
Yes, that is correct. The FBI and DOJ were only allowed to see a “draft” report prepared by Crowdstrike, and that report was redacted… and that redacted draft is the “last version of the report produced”; meaning, there are no unredacted & final versions.
Whiskey-Tango-Foxtrot!
This means the FBI and DOJ, and all of the downstream claims by the intelligence apparatus; including the December 2016 Joint Analysis Report and January 2017 Intelligence Community Assessment, all the way to the Weissmann/Mueller report and the continued claims therein; were based on the official intelligence agencies of the U.S. government and the U.S. Department of Justice taking the word of a hired contractor for the Democrat party….. despite their inability to examine the server and/or actually see an unredacted technical forensic report from the investigating contractor.
The entire apparatus of the U.S. government just took their word for it…
…and used the claim therein as an official position….
…which led to a subsequent government claim, in court, of absolute certainty that Russia hacked the DNC.
Think about that for a few minutes.
The full intelligence apparatus of the United States government is relying on a report they have never even been allowed to see or confirm; that was created by a paid contractor for a political victim that would not allow the FBI to investigate their claim.
The DNC server issue is foundation, and cornerstone, of the U.S. government’s position on “Russia hacking” and the election interference narrative; and that narrative is based on zero factual evidence to affirm the U.S. government’s position.

“More boat migrants have been intercepted in the English Channel in the first six months of 2019 than in the whole of last year.
The number of illegal migrants intercepted by authorities at Britain’s sea ports has risen to 511, with 152 of those arriving since the start of June alone, according to The Telegraph, while 312 people reached the UK in dinghies and other small boats in the whole of 2018.
In reaction to the rising numbers of illegal landings, Conservative MP for Dover Charlie Elphike wrote: “[The] crisis now threatens to turn into a Summer of chaos on the Channel. [The] Home Office needs to regain control of our borders [and ratify] a stronger agreement with France to stop people leaving the French coast.”
On Saturday, two boats holding a combined 40 migrants were intercepted in the English Channel just off of the Kent coast by UK Border Force. While on Wednesday, KentOnline reported that 38 migrants were intercepted in three different vessels, with all presenting themselves to immigration officers as Iranian or Iraqi nationals, and an abandoned dinghy was found on a beach at Greastone, near Dungeness.
On May 31st, the UK saw what Mr Elphike called a “record number” of illegal entries by boat in one day, when 74 migrants arrived in eight vessels, with one landing at Winchelsea Caravan Park beach in East Sussex.
The Dover MP criticised the Home Office at the time, saying: “This crisis was meant to have been dealt with at Christmas, yet numbers continue to rise. It looks set to surge to record levels through the Summer. The Home Office needs to get a grip on this crisis.”
Home Secretary Sajid Javid declared a “major incident” in December after a sharp rise in migrant boat landings on England’s south-east coast, including 40 arriving in five vessels on Christmas day. As a result, two cutters were returned to UK waters from overseas operations and the UK agreed a joint action plan with France.
“Last week, the Home Secretary and the French Interior Minister, Christophe Castaner, agreed to continue to explore options to reinforce the efforts already being made,” a Home Office spokesman said on Saturday, adding: “It is an established principle that those in need of protection should claim asylum in the first safe country they reach.”
The National Crime Agency said in February that Channel boat migrants are keen to be picked up by British authorities either on the water or after they have landed, because they know there is a low chance of them being deported.
Director General of Operations Steve Rodhouse told MPs that this kind of illegal immigration was no longer being done in a clandestine manner. “The business model is for the migrants to reach the point where they can engage with UK authorities whether it be on land or at sea and claim asylum at that point,” Mr Rodhouse said.
“People are happy to be — and are actively seeking to be — caught or engaging with UK authorities because they don’t fear being returned and that is a significant player in the issue,” he added.
At the time that Mr Javid declared the major incident, former director-general of Immigration Enforcement David Wood warned that deploying more immigration patrol vessels would act as a draw to illegals and people smugglers, adding: “Britain’s border force, coastguards and lifeboats are being used as a taxi service for the migrants.””

“A man arrested on suspicion of murdering a senior politician in Angela Merkel’s Christian Democrats has links to Germany’s increasingly militant Far-right scene, local media reported last night.
Police in the central state of Hessen confirmed yesterday that they had detained a 45-year-old man on suspicion of murdering Walter Lübcke, the head of government in the city of Kassel.
Mr Lübcke, who had clashed with the far-Right over the immigration issue, was shot in the head on his garden patio late at night on June 2nd and died almost immediately.
Police insiders told the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung newspaper that the suspect is a known Far-right extremist. Separately the tabloid Bild reported the suspect has a long criminal history and links to the far-Right.
The arrest came after Germany’s intelligence services recently warned of a growing potential for violence in the country’s fragmented Far-right scene, highlighting the danger of lone attackers radicalized over the internet.
Prosecutors in Hessen are set to give further details a press conference today [MON]. They have not made any official response to the arrest other than to say that a DNA match led them to the suspect, but did not deny the media reports.
While police have yet to comment on a possible motive for the crime, colleagues of Mr Lübcke went public soon after the murder with their fears that a Far-right extremist was behind it.
The 65-year-old had become a hate figure for far-Right after he told a town hall meeting in 2015 that opponents of the government’s refugee policies were free to leave the country.
A video of his comments was spread online and Mr Lübcke briefly required police protection after he was inundated with death threats.
If suspicions that the murder was political are confirmed, it would be the most serious crime yet in a string of assassination attempts on proponents of Ms Merkel’s refugee policies.
At the height of the refugee crisis in 2015 an extremist stabbed the soon-to-be mayor of Cologne, Henriette Reker, as she was out campaigning. Two years later, Andreas Hollstein, town mayor in Altena, survived a similar knife attack.
Meanwhile federal prosecutors are investigating suspicions that a nationwide network of radicalized soldiers and police officers conspired to steal weapons and ammunition in preparation for a “Day X”.

The document showed that Berlin approved a total of 56 defense export deals between January 1 and June 5, including 801.8 million euros’ worth of exports to Egypt and 26.1 million euros’ worth of exports to the United Arab Emirates.
Since 2015, Saudi Arabia has headed an alliance of Arab states fighting in Yemen that includes Egypt and the UAE.
Germany has imposed a partial arms embargo on countries involved in the Yemen conflict, and slapped a total ban on Saudi Arabia in November last year following the killing of dissident journalist Jamal Khashoggi in the Saudi consulate in Istanbul, Daily Sabah reported.
That ban was recently partially lifted in response to pressure from Britain and France, in particular regarding arms exports with German components that fell under the ban.
The document seen by dpa, which was a response by the Economy Ministry to a request for information by Greens lamaker Omid Nouripour, also shows that Berlin approved two defense deals with Saudi Arabia during the period despite the ban.
Ulrich Nussbaum, a senior official in the ministry, said the deals included 831,000 euros’ worth of armored vehicles.”

Al-Saraya said in a statement received by Al Sumaria News, “Our intelligence indicated that a group of ISIL militants tried to sneak into the area of ??Al-Madarat adjacent to eastern operation zone of Anbar region to carry out terrorist operations.”
“The Samarra Operations Command Center issued the necessary orders, and the second brigade (affiliated with the Saraya al-Salam Command in Samarra) set up an ambush for ISIL terrorists, who were being transported by six boats,” the statement added.
The statement also pointed out that “the heroes of the second brigade made the militants to flee after inflicting heavy casualties upon their ranks using heavy and medium weapons.””
