Daily Links Post graphic

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

    • “Hello”

‘NBC’s Kathy Park reports that of 150 mass shootings none of them were muslim’

And I could report on hundreds of car deaths that were also not caused by muslims.

Office-rage or road-rage do not make a deliberate ideology for systematic terror.

islam does this by the dhimmitude of the soul.

  1. BRITAIN’S BACK-DOOR BLASPHEMY LAW
? The long-running dispute revolves — most recently — around an effort by the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on British Muslims, a cross-party formation of around two-dozen MPs in the British Parliament, to institutionalize the definition of Islamophobia in racial rather than religious terms.
? The proposed definition has been opposed by many Britons, including British Muslims, who warn that it would effectively shield Islam from scrutiny and valid criticism.
? “We have here a clash between two very different ways of viewing a society: broadly individualism and collectivism…. In a collectivist society the aim is for the rulers to determine how individuals should behave … those in power lay down a detailed code and threaten punishment for non-compliance. And they do not welcome criticism as a device for mutual learning and holding power to account.” — David Green, The Spectator.
? “We are concerned that allegations of Islamophobia will be, indeed already are being, used to effectively shield Islamic beliefs and even extremists from criticism, and that formalizing this definition will result in it being employed effectively as something of a backdoor blasphemy law.” — Open letter signed by 40 British academics, writers and public officials to Home Secretary Sajid Javid. 3. ORGANISATION FOR GLOBAL BIG BUSINESS CALLS FOR PRIDE YEAR – BUT DOES IT GO FAR ENOUGH
Not everyone, however, is happy. A spokesperson for the Soros Foundation, while welcoming these ideas, said that they don’t go far enough, and a much greater duration is needed: Here we are, 19 years into the 21st Century, and we still only have 1/12th of every year dedicated to the plastering of rainbow flags and logos everywhere, he said. And while we welcome the suggestion of global corporations to extend Pride for a year, it’s just not enough. We believe it’s time to rebrand the entire 21st Century as #PrideCentury and to make sure that the rainbow is omnipresent until at least the end of 2099. Rob Slane

  4. LITTLE EVIDENCE’ UK GAZA CHARITY DELIVERED ANY HUMANITARIAN AID – REGULATOR FINDS
A charity set up to help Gazans may not have conducted any charitable activity, the Charity Commission has said in a damning report. Viva Palestina was set up in January 2009 by a group which included George Galloway, the former Labour and Respect MP, with the aim of “alleviating the suffering and to help the people of Gaza re-build their land”. It was removed from the register of charities following an inquiry in 2013, four years after the Charity Commission, which regulates the sector in the UK, opened its first statutory investigation into it. On Thursday, the commission published its findings from the 2013 inquiry, saying that Viva Palestina “may not have conducted any charitable activity or distributed any humanitarian aid”. Ben Weich

  5. SCHOOLS TO ANALYSE CHILDREN’S DRAWINGS TO HELP CATCH PEDOPHILES
The system uses keyword algorithms and image detection software and will automatically alert teachers if the software detects they could be at risk. Two thousand children at six primary schools in Essex, London, Stoke, Birmingham and South Wales will participate in the trial of the technology ahead of a planned rollout in England and Wales later this year. Children will create their own “online journals” and interact with cartoon characters, who will prompt them to answer questions about their emotions and their safety online. Natasha Bernal

    • Daily Telegraph: “The technology, created by Essex Police, charity Dot Com Children’s Foundation and technology consultancy DataArt, can also detect if a child is being radicalised by racist gangs. Schools will be able to share information with the police or social care services if concerns are raised.”

And yet, would their political-bias actually be better, or just drag the few remaining fathers left into their web of false accusation by going against the Narrative?

“Andrew Moffat, Assistant Headteacher of Parkfield Community School. In 2017, Moffatt was awarded an MBE, and subsequently shortlisted for the 2018 Varkey Foundation Global Teacher Prize, for introducing the pioneering “No Outsiders” programme to the school in 2015. Under this scheme, children are taught to welcome all people, regardless of race, disability, sexuality, or gender identity.”
      https://quillette.com/2019/05/28/when-protected-characteristics-collide/

“In answer to the question ‘How do I explain what “gay” means to my child?’ Moffat advises this answer:

““Gay” is when a man loves a man. “Lesbian” is when two women love each other. “Bisexual” is when a person can love both men and women. …”

So children will always be interferred with by such as these to say “love mommy with all your heart mind and soul, ” and the second commandment is like it, “love your rainbow-cuck as yourself.”

There are no algorithms going to be written to catch these childhood-thieves.

  6. STATE MOVES TO TAKE OVER CHRISTIAN SCHOOL
Dozens of agents stage raid over fake rumor, then demand it ‘relinquish its moral standards’. …now the state is targeting that last remaining stronghold for faith and freedom. The school was hit with a SWAT-style raid prompted by “an internet rumor put forward by an online left-wing tabloid.” For years, as the public schools have become increasingly hostile toward parents, the courts have insisted that the parents’ option is to instead choose private education. Now, that fundamental right is also under attack.

  8. JURY AWARDS GIBSON’S BAKERY $11m AGAINST OBERLIN COLLEGE
Punitive damage phase to start next Tuesday, which could increase the damages to $33 million. The verdict sends a strong message that colleges and universities cannot simply wind up and set loose student social justice warriors and then wash their hands of the consequences. In this case, a wholly innocent 5th-generation bakery was falsely accused of being racist and having a history racial profiling after stopping three black Oberlin College students from shoplifting. The students eventually pleaded guilty, but not before large protests and boycotts intended to destroy the bakery and defame the owners. The jury appears to have accepted that Oberlin College facilitated the wrongful conduct against the bakery. William A Jacobson

  14. Turks Enraged by Iceland’s ‘Racist’ Greeting of Their Football Squad (sputniknews, Jun 10, 2019)
    https://sputniknews.com/viral/201906101075766534-turkey-iceland-racism-outrage/

“Footage from Reykjavik airport shows a person posing as a journalist holding a toilet brush to a Turkish player’s mouth as if it were a microphone.

The Turkish national football team arrived in Iceland for a Euro 2020 qualifying game and received a scandalously rude welcome, sparking an outrage of international proportions.

After landing at the country’s Keflavik Airport following a six-hour flight, the Turkish team were not allowed to leave for over three hours. The Icelandic airport officials refused to offer a reason for the delay, and also insisted on searching the bags of all players and staff.

According to the Turkish news channel EHA News, the Icelandic officials went about searching the Turkish national football team’s bags one by one, thus deliberately slowing down the process. To add fuel to the fire, immigration control took a very long time to process the passports of players and staff.

?When the Turkish team were finally allowed to exit the airport with their luggage in tow, another incident happened. While speaking to the media on his way out, Turkish captain Emre Belozoglu was accosted by a man who held a toilet brush to his face and pretended it was a microphone.

Belozoglu seemingly didn’t notice it (or chose to ignore the provocation), as he went on to explain that the entire team was unnecessarily searched more than once.

By contrast, vice captain Burak Yilmaz didn’t mince words.

“What they have done is disrespectful and rude! We have been waiting here for three hours. They took everyone’s bags and even everyone’s cosmetics. They searched it again and again. We flew for 6.5 hours and we’ve waited for three hours”, Yilmaz said, as quoted by the news outlet TRT World.

Turkish journalist Ragip Soylu called the reception “racist”.

?While Icelandic officials and the UEFA have yet to comment on the incident, it triggered a huge outrage on the social media, as thousands of Turks rushed to vent their anger in a makeshift campaign, #TurksAreComingForIceland, quickly making the hashtag the most popular worldwide.

As Turks were seething with anger and yearning for retaliation, some Icelanders were quick to offer their apologies.

“Dear Turkey. The guy with the brush is not Iceland media. Greetings from the Icelandic media,” star sports journalist Henry Birgir tweeted.

One ?Icelandic man, Benedikt Gretarsson, admitted to receiving some 20,000 threats and hate messages and wrote a tweet explaining that “the idiot with the brush” was not him and assuring the Turkish fans that he had “nothing but respect” for their players and their “great nation”.

“Turkey fans, we don’t know who this airport guy is, he’s probably some random tourist making a joke, we apologise for this, we were hoping to welcome you well, it would be nice if you could stop sending hateful messages,” another Icelander wrote.

According to Turkish media, Turkey intends to present a note of protest to Iceland over the incident. It was emphasised that this delay occurred despite the official correspondence with the airport management promising a smooth handling of the football players. Turkish Foreign Minister Cavusoglu is expected to call his Icelandic counterpart for an explanation of the situation.

On the football pitch, Iceland meets Turkey on Tuesday.”

  15. Women Have Become More Left-Wing, Men More Right-Wing – Swedish Survey (sputniknews, Jun 10, 2019)
    https://sputniknews.com/europe/201906101075767879-women-men-gender-political-polarisation/

“After World War II, men were still more left-wing than women. Now, the opposite is true.

A survey by the SOM Institute at the University of Gothenburg has uncovered major differences in men’s and women’s political views.

According to the survey, men and women are increasingly at odds with one another on the traditional left-right political spectrum. While the women showed more sympathy for the Left Party, which was formerly known as the Communist party of Sweden and is currently the most left-wing party in the Swedish parliament, men sided with the Sweden Democrats, which, by contrast, is the only parliamentary anti-immigrant right-wing party.

To put things into perspective, following World War II, men were still more left-wing than women.

“We notice a large sex gap,” associate professor of political science Patrik Öhberg told the newspaper Svenska Dagbladet. “The differences have grown most recently,” he added.

According to the study, men have a stronger interest in immigration policy, whereas women have a stronger interest in gender equality.

This tendency already manifested itself in the 2018 general election, which the Sweden Democrats would have won, had only men voted. By contrast, the Swedish women overwhelmingly supported left-of-the-centre parties, who would have won with a clear majority, had only women voted.

The results somewhat contradict the researchers’ expectations as the differences theoretically should straighten in a gender-equal country like Sweden; its society is often hailed for its strong individualist footing.

“There are several theories. One says that differences between women and men increase because women and men are fundamentally different, and the more greater freedom individuals get, the clearer the differences become. The second theory, on the contrary, says that the differences we see are based on gender roles, and as gender roles become less important, individual choices should be more central and thus differences between women and men should decrease”, Öhberg explained.

The study also noted a marked gap in the perception of gender equality between men and women. According to the study, 51 percent of the men and 67 percent of the women were in favour of increased gender equality, a gap that remain more or less intact since the 1990s.

Gender equality has become a hot issue in many debates, following the anti-harassment #MeToo campaign and the abortion debate. Patrik Öhberg argued that there is a risk that gender equality will become an increasingly polarising issue.

The SOM Institute has been surveying men’s and women’s attitudes and stances on various political issues since 1986.”

“HOLIDAYMAKERS and reps have been forced to have terrorist training this summer amid rising concerns terror outfit ISIS will strike and massacre Brits traveling abroad in Europe.

The Sun reports that fresh plans to kill tourists from the UK could be unleashed by members of the Syria-based group after ISIS was officially killed off. Fears are growing that after it was wiped out, returning soldiers who fought for the group could begin planning their own attacks on people from places including the UK. The head of MI5 revealed that jihadis could “target hotel locations to kill, injure or take hostage” tourists…”

    https://www.express.co.uk/news/world/1138533/malmo-train-station-terror-attack-man-bomb-evacuated-sweden-police

“A MAN has been shot in Malmo, Sweden, after exhibiting “threatening behaviour”, police said, with the bomb squad scrambling to the scene.

The central train station in the city was evacuated and the bomb squad called after the man shouted he had a bomb, according to witnesses. Video footage from the scene shows at least four police officers pinning a man to the ground outside Central Station, with others standing guard. Armed police in helmets were also outside the station.

One man at the scene tweeted: “Malmo attack at Central Station. Man shot down, shouted I have a bomb.”

At least two police cars and one ambulance were at the scene.

The man is being treated by emergency services.

The station in downtown Malmo, a major hub for regional rail traffic, was evacuated in the wake of incident. There were no other injuries reported apart from the man fire upon.

A police spokesman said its bomb squad had been called to the scene to investigate the area, adding it was too early to say whether the event was terror-related or not.”

  18. BBC bosses accused of ‘sanitising’ Islamist attacks after it emerges reporters will be told to stop using the word ‘terror’ unless quoting someone else (dailymail, Jun 10, 2019)

“The BBC has been accused of ‘sanitising’ terrorism under plans for an effective ban on journalists using the word ‘terror’.

Reporters will be told to avoid using the word to describe any terror attack, unless they are quoting someone else.

Instead, they will refer to terror attacks by naming specific details, such as the location and the method of slaughter used.

The controversial edict means that the BBC will no longer use the phrase ‘terror attack’ to describe the massacres at London Bridge or Manchester Arena, as the corporation did when the atrocities occurred.

Reporters would describe them as the London Bridge van attack or the Manchester Arena bomb attack instead.

But yesterday, MPs and experts accused the broadcaster of ‘failing in its public service duty’…”

“Greek authorities say arsonists have targeted two vehicles owned by Turkish nationals, one of them a diplomat, in the northern Greek city of Thessaloniki, destroying the cars and damaging another four.

Police said the arsonists struck in the pre-dawn hours of Monday, pouring flammable liquid over the two cars. One is owned by a diplomat working at the Turkish consulate, the other by a Turkish national employed at an international financial institution headquartered in Thessaloniki.

Another four private cars parked nearby were severely damaged in the attack. There was no immediate claim of responsibility.”

  20. Lebanese party: Gunmen kill official with Islamist group (abcnews, Jun 10, 2019)
    https://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/lebanese-party-gunmen-kill-official-islamist-group-63600834

“An Islamist political party in Lebanon says gunmen have shot and killed one of its officials in his village in the country’s south.

The Jamaa Islamiya says Mohammed Jarrar was fatally shot on Sunday night in the village of Chebaa.

The party is the Lebanese branch of the Muslim Brotherhood, a regional Islamist organization. It didn’t blame anyone for the killing and no group claimed responsibility.

The state-run National News Agency said Jarrar was shot with four bullets to his stomach, after which the attackers fled the scene. The agency says authorities have opened an investigation into the case.

It wasn’t immediately clear if the killing was politically-motived. Such assassinations have been rare in recent years in Lebanon.

The Jamaa Islamiya isn’t represented in parliament.”

  21. Islamic State expands reach in Afghanistan, threatening West (abcnews, Jun 10, 2019)
    https://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/islamic-state-expands-reach-afghanistan-threatening-west-63599425

“The Islamic State group has lost its caliphate in Syria and Iraq, but in the forbidding mountains of northeastern Afghanistan the group is expanding its footprint, recruiting new fighters and plotting attacks on the United States and other Western countries, according to U.S. and Afghan security officials.

Nearly two decades after the U.S.-led invasion, the extremist group is seen as an even greater threat than the Taliban because of its increasingly sophisticated military capabilities and its strategy of targeting civilians, both in Afghanistan and abroad. Concerns run so deep that many have come to see the Taliban, which has also clashed with IS, as a potential partner in containing it.

A U.S. intelligence official based in Afghanistan told The Associated Press that a recent wave of attacks in the capital, Kabul, is “practice runs” for even bigger attacks in Europe and the United States.

“This group is the most near-term threat to our homelands from Afghanistan,” the official said on condition of anonymity to preserve his operational security. “The IS core mandate is: You will conduct external attacks” in the U.S. and Europe. “That is their goal. It’s just a matter of time,” he said. “It is very scary.”

Bruce Hoffman, director of the Center for Security Studies at Georgetown University, sees Afghanistan as a possible new base for IS now that it has been driven from Iraq and Syria. “ISIS has invested a disproportionate amount of attention and resources in Afghanistan,” he said, pointing to “huge arms stockpiling” in the east….”

  26. Report: ISIS plotted to send terrorists through U.S. southern border
By Rusty Weiss June 10, 2019

A study published in Homeland Security Today reveals an ISIS plot to send terrorists through the U.S.-Mexico border by taking advantage of smuggling and migration routes.

The report references an ISIS fighter named Abu Henricki (name changed in the report), a Canadian citizen with dual citizenship with Trinidad, who was captured in Syria in early May.

The International Center for the Study of Violent Extremism (ICSVE) interviewed Henricki and discovered that ISIS planned to have terrorists travel from Syria to Central America and infiltrate America through the southern border.

“The plan came from someone from the New Jersey state of America,” he explained. “I was going to take the boat from Puerto Rico into Mexico. He was going to smuggle me in.”

  27. Virginians should vote against radical ‘dark money’ candidates on June 11
By Liam Bissainthe June 9, 2019

Virginia has primary elections coming up this Tuesday, June 11. Some matter a lot, and you should vote in them if you have the chance — like the prosecutor’s race in Arlington County and Falls Church. That race pits left-wing radical Parisa Dehghani-Tafti against the moderately liberal incumbent prosecutor Theo Stamos. In Virginia, you can vote in whichever primary you want — Democratic or Republican — without registering, and regardless of which party you’ve voted for in the past. A longtime independent or Republican can vote in the Democratic primary, like the one between Stamos and Dehghani-Tafti for the position of Commonwealth’s Attorney in Arlington and Falls Church.

The left-wing radical Dehghani-Tafti received a staggering sum of money — $583,237 — from a “dark money” group bankrolled by George Soros. So reports the mainstream liberal newspaper the Falls Church News-Press, which has endorsed Stamos for Commonwealth’s Attorney. A week ago, the Washington Post reported that Soros’s group had already pumped over $1 million into just two races in Northern Virginia, seeking to replace incumbent Democrats with leftist challengers.

The leftist Dehghani-Tafti wants to lead an office of prosecutors despite never having prosecuted a single case in her life. She does not seem to understand the basic role of a prosecutor in deterring crime. Indeed, she complains about Stamos’s success as a prosecutor. Stamos is good at convicting criminals, and has never had a single conviction overturned on appeal in her decades as a prosecutor. Stamos’ office prosecutes felonies, rather than ignoring them. That deters violent crime and theft. Dehghani-Tafti makes that sound like a bad thing, complaining that “Arlington produces felony convictions at two to three times the rate of neighboring counties despite having less crime.” But a willingness to prosecute felonies is why Arlington has less crime. The south side of Chicago has a huge murder rate, in large part because most murderers are never prosecuted and caught.

It’s come to this: Liberal site edits video to make Ocasio-Cortez look smarter
By Ben Bowles June 10, 2019

We’ve all seen videos edited in a way that makes a speaker appear dishonest or worse. But this is the first time I can recall where a video was doctored to make a dumb politician look more intelligent.

The identity of said dumb politician will not surprise you, and neither perhaps will the situation, which was referenced in LU’s Web Crawler section over the weekend. An excerpt that ran there notes:

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was schooled by an FBI counterterrorism official earlier this week after she incorrectly suggested Muslims get charged with terrorism because they are treated as foreign, while white supremacists get “off the hook.”

The New York Democrat used a hearing on Tuesday to suggest that Muslims are being treated differently in the U.S. … while white supremacist attackers avoid being charged with “domestic terrorism” for similar crimes.

Michael McGarrity, the assistant director of the Counterterrorism Division of the FBI, fired back at the freshman Democrat, explaining that the authorities can’t charge people with a “domestic terrorism” charge simply because such a charge does not exist in U.S. laws.

  30. Iran unveils homemade air defense system to deter threats

Iran unveiled on Sunday a homemade air defense system capable of hitting six incoming targets simultaneously, state TV reported.

The system, named Khordad 15, can detect hostile fighter jets and combat drones from 150 km away, Iranian Defense Minister Amir Hatami said at the unveiling ceremony.

It is also capable of tracking them within a range of 120 km, he added.

Iran is currently developing systems to counter missiles and other aerial threats, Hatami was quoted as saying.

“Turkey’s security bureaucracy is actively considering buying Russian and Chinese made fifth-generation fighter aircraft if the Turkish deal with Washington on the purchase of 100 F-35s falls through, Yeni Safak, one of Turkey’s most influential pro-government newspapers, has reported.

According to the outlet, “plans B, C, and D” have already been prepared “in the event that the F-35 project is dumped following the S-400 purchase.”

These plans reportedly include the acceleration of the Turkish defence ministry’s efforts to develop a homegrown fighter aircraft, talks with Russia about the supply of Sukhoi’s new fighter jet design, the Su-57, and consideration of the Shenyang FC-31 (aka the J-31), China’s new stealth multirole fighter platform.

“These aircraft stand out with their low cost compared to the F-35, each of which costs approximately $100 million,” Yeni Safak noted. Furthermore, “Ankara already thinks that even if the F-35s are delivered, they will create serious security risks for Turkey, as they are directly commanded by the US. Therefore, nobody regrets ‘losing’ the F-35s,” the paper stressed…”

“Asif Ali Zardari, the husband of late ex-Pakistani prime minister Benazir Bhutto, allegedly opened hundreds of bank accounts in the names of labourers, security guards, and other poor people of the country by influencing his power and position as president and political leader of a ruling party to launder money.

New Delhi (Sputnik): Former Pakistan president and co-chairman of country’s main opposition party, Asif Ali Zardari, was arrested on Monday along with his sister by senior anti-corruption investigators in connection with a bank fraud case. The arrest of the Pakistan Peoples Party’s (PPP) co-founder Zardari, husband of Benazir Bhutto, came following the Islamabad High Court turning down an anticipatory bail application filed by Zardari and his sister — Faryal Talpur — in the fake accounts case.

Both of them will be under the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) team’s custody until the duo get any relief from the Supreme Court of Pakistan. Zardari was president from 2008 to 2013.

“After dismissal of bail petition by the Hon’ble Islamabad High Court and in pursuance of warrant of arrest issued by chairman NAB, this Bureau is going to execute the said warrant of arrest of accused Asif Ali Zardari,” the order reads…”

  37. Pope Francis Slams Matteo Salvini over Italy’s Closed Borders (breitbart, Jun 10, 2019)
    https://www.breitbart.com/politics/2019/06/10/pope-francis-slams-matteo-salvini-over-italys-closed-borders/

“Pope Francis let fly a thinly veiled attack on Italy’s interior minister Matteo Salvini Monday, comparing him to the biblical character of Cain who murdered his brother Abel.
In an address to participants in a meeting of aid agencies to the Oriental Catholic Churches (ROACO), the pope seemed to fire a shot across Mr. Salvini’s bow, accusing the populist minister of closing his ports to migrants while opening them to arms dealers.

“We hear the plea of persons in flight, crowded on boats in search of hope, not knowing which ports will welcome them, in a Europe that does open its ports to ships that will load sophisticated and costly weapons capable of producing forms of destruction that do not spare even children,” the pope said, according to a rough English-language translation supplied by the Vatican.

Since Mr. Salvini is the only political leader to have closed the nation’s ports in an effort to curb illegal migration, it is difficult to interpret the pontiff’s words as applying to anyone else.

“Here we can recognize the cry of Abel rising up to God,” the pope added, a biblical reference to the second son of Adam and Eve, who was killed by his elder brother Cain. The pope often references Cain’s defensive question “Am I my brother’s keeper?” when speaking of the duty to welcome migrants.

Although the pope has never openly criticized Mr. Salvini, who is also the leader of the populist Lega party, he has found other ways to make known his views.

During a recent press conference aboard the papal plane returning to Rome from Romania, for instance, the pope urged journalists to read the Vatican newspaper, L’Osservatore Romano, if they want to know what he thinks about Italian politics.

“I read it and it would be good for you to read it, because it offers some very interesting keys to understanding things and things that I say are also there,” he said, calling it the “paper of the party.”

A week earlier, in fact, L’Osservatore Romano had published a reaction to the European elections in the form of a front-page editorial denouncing Salvini’s pro-sovereignty movement as being fundamentally opposed to Europe.

In it, the newspaper’s editor-in-chief said the Italian vote that went overwhelmingly to Mr. Salvini was “reactive” and motivated by “fear,” an opinion also alluded to by Francis in his press conference.

So often, politicians “sow hatred and fear,” said the pope, who has never shied away from political issues, and “this is terrible.”

Meanwhile, Jesuit Father Antonio Spadaro, a papal confidant who often speaks for Francis, also decried the election results in a full-page article in the Italian Catholic weekly Famiglia Cristiana.

“There is a toad, a moral sickness, in the belly of our country, which is also infecting our Church,” Spadaro lamented, after a significant number of Catholics voted for Mr. Salvini.

Father Spadaro took particular umbrage at Salvini’s “political usurpation of religious symbols,” in reference to the minister’s display of a rosary at a political rally and invocation of the blessed Virgin Mary.

The priest also said that Salvini’s nationalism “contradicts the very essence of the universality proper to Catholicism,” suggesting that in Italy “the Christian conscience has been hacked, genetically modified.””

  38. Sentencing set for man who tried to fight for Islamic State (abcnews, Jun 10, 2019)

“A South Carolina man who pleaded guilty to trying to fight for the Islamic State group is being sentenced.

Federal court documents show sentencing is set for Monday morning for 20-year-old Zakaryia Abdin in Charleston. He faces up to 20 years in prison.

Abdin pleaded guilty in August to attempting to provide material support to a terrorist organization. He was arrested at Charleston’s airport in 2017 as he tried to board a plane for Jordan. Authorities say Abdin told an agent posing as an Islamic State recruiter he wanted to torture an American.

Authorities say that at age 16, Abdin talked about robbing a gun store to get weapons to kill soldiers.

He was arrested, pleaded guilty, and a parole board agreed to his early release after a year.”

  39. Officials say 95 dead in new ethnic massacre in central Mali (abcnews, Jun 10, 2019)
    https://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/government-95-dead-latest-massacre-hit-central-mali-63604929

“Unknown assailants killed at least 95 people in a central Mali village overnight, government officials said Monday, the latest massacre in a growing ethnic conflict driven by fear and suspicion over alleged ties to extremist groups once limited to the West African country’s north.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack on the ethnic Dogon village, though tensions have been high since an ethnic Dogon militia was accused of carrying out a massacre in an ethnic Peuhl village in March that left at least 157 dead.

The killings highlight the Malian security forces’ inability to contain the spreading extremism by fighters linked to the Islamic State organization and al-Qaida and the growing danger of frightened communities arming themselves…”

  40. If We Act As If Free Speech is Over, It Will Be
    Self-censorship is the worst censorship.
    June 10, 2019
    Bosch Fawstin

What kind of world would it be if no one drew Mohammad? A world without Free Speech, like the Islamic world. I never want to live in that world, and drawing Mohammad is how I personally keep that world at bay. Unfortunately, almost no one is drawing Mohammad cartoons today. The horrible fact is that terrorism has worked. The violent response to criticism of Islam and of Mohammad cartoons has made those of us who continue to criticize Islam and draw Mohammad a very small minority, making us easier to pick off by leftists who want to character assassinate us, in order to ban us from mainstream society, and Muslims who want to literally assassinate us. (The word assassin is of Arabic origin).

Whatever reason that those who can draw and who claim to support Free Speech don’t draw Mohammad –and I’ve heard it all, from them claiming that they have no “interest” in doing so, to it’s just not their “thing”- the simple reason is that the murders and death threats have shut them up and shut down their alleged support for freedom. Islam’s got their tongues and their pens, and they’re ashamed to admit it. People ask me why I draw Mohammad, since I get death threats, and the reason I draw Mohammad is because of the death threats. The way I see it, death threats are not a reason to NOT draw Mohammad, but TO draw Mohammad. I never set out to draw Mohammad, and even being raised Muslim, I didn’t know of the Islamic prohibition of drawing him, but when Danish cartoonists were threatened with death over drawing Mohammad, I did what’s natural for someone who loves freedom, especially when it’s threatened, and I began drawing Mohammad, and I haven’t stopped since.

My winning Mohammad cartoon explicitly spells out why I draw Mohammad in the first place, and that’s in defiance of the Islamic prohibition, which leads Muslims to threaten to murder over cartoons. Though Mohammad cartoons are blamed for inciting Islamic violence, in truth, it’s Islamic violence that incites Mohammad cartoons.
