SCOUTS EARN U-TURN BADGE AFTER SCRAPPING TRANS POLICY
The Scouts have done a U-turn on a transgender policy that members said put young people’s safety at risk. The policy, which was published only 18 months ago and triggered protests — one MP called it “madness” — has been substantially changed. Advice that scout leaders should not call children “boys or girls” has been scrapped. The organisation, which accepts boys and girls of all ages, has also rescinded advice that a child’s gender transition must be treated with “complete confidentiality”, including being kept from parents. The guidance now says such information should be shared with families or the authorities if there are welfare concerns. The Scouts’ equal opportunities policy has also been revised to include the category of sex, previously omitted in favour of “gender identity”. IRAN SHUTS DOWN CHURCH, REMOVES CROSS
Iranian intelligence shut down a Presbyterian church and removed its cross from the bell tower, the Assyrian International News Agency (AINA) announced Sunday, reported Iran’s Radio Farda.
The church was located in the city of Tabriz in northwestern Iran and it belonged to the Assyrian community.
According to the report, the building was confiscated by the Revolutionary Court in 2011, but its members had been able to continue to use it until earlier this month.
“Intelligence agents stormed the 100-year-old church, officially recognized as a national heritage site in Iran, on Thursday, May 9, changed all the locks, tore down the cross from the church tower, and ordered the churchwarden to leave,” Article 18, a non-profit organization based in London announced. The group’s stated goal is the protection and promotion of religious freedom in Iran.
Eiko, the state agency responsible for the raid together with the Ministry of Intelligence, is under the direct control of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
According to the report, the congregants were left in shock and have not been allowed to hold services in the building since the raid.
Before the 1979 Islamic Revolution, the Assyrian community in Iran totaled approximately 200,000 people, Radio Farda noted.
However, since then many have fled and in 2015 only 32,000 Assyrians were left in the country, mostly in Tehran.

Referring to populist parties across the continent that were boosted by European Parliament elections on the weekend, Merkel said, “in Germany, obviously, they always have to be seen in a certain context, in the context of our past, which means we have to be that much more vigilant than others.”
Merkel, speaking Monday, also condemned the rise of anti-Semitism in the country, saying Germany “always had a certain number of anti-Semites among us, unfortunately.”

“A leading international rights group on Tuesday accused Egypt’s security forces of committing widespread abuses against civilians in the Sinai Peninsula, where Egypt has been battling Islamic militants for years. Human Rights Watch alleged that some of the abuses amount to war crimes.
In a 134-page report, the group said it documented arbitrary arrests, enforced disappearances, torture, extrajudicial killings, and possibly unlawful air and ground attacks against civilians.
“Some of these abuses, part of an ongoing campaign against members of the local ISIS affiliate, the Sinai Province group, amount to war crimes,” the report said. ISIS is an alternative acronym for the Islamic State group.
Egyptian officials had no immediate comment.
The militants have also committed horrific crimes, including kidnapping and torture of residents, some of whom were killed, the New York-based watchdog said. They have also killed captured members of the security forces, HRW said.
“Instead of protecting Sinai residents in their fight against militants, the Egyptian security forces have shown utter contempt to residents’ lives, turning their daily life into a nonstop nightmare of abuses,” said Michael Page, HRW’s deputy Mideast and North Africa director.
Access to northern Sinai has been restricted for years, making it difficult to independently verify what is happening on the ground. HRW said the findings were based, in part, on interviews with Sinai residents and former detainees.
The group also said, citing government statements and media reports, that 3,076 suspected militants and 1,226 members of the military and police were killed in fighting between January 2014 and June 2018 in Sinai. It said, however, that Egyptian authorities frequently counted civilians among the alleged militants killed and that hundreds of civilians have been killed or wounded in the violence.
The government has not provided a tally for civilians killed in Sinai.
HRW said the Egyptian military has recruited Sinai residents into a militia to help it “by providing intelligence and carrying out missions on the military’s behalf.” But these militia members also used their powers for arbitrary arrests and to settle scores and personal disputes.
“They have also participated in torture and extrajudicial killings,” the group said.
The insurgency in Sinai intensified after the military’s 2013 ouster of Mohammed Morsi, a freely elected but divisive president. Morsi was toppled amid mass protests against him, a year after he took office.

“Luxembourg archbishop Jean-Claude Hollerich praised the successes of green parties in Sunday’s EU elections while lamenting the rise of populist-nationalist groups.
Archbishop Hollerich, president of COMECE (Commission of the Bishops’ Conferences of the European Community), told reporters Monday that despite populist victories things would have been “worse” if not for the pope’s constant call for a more welcoming attitude toward migrants.
The Italian vote does not mean that Italians are rebelling against the pope, the archbishop insisted, because “the Holy Father’s message and our message as a Church comes from the Gospel, and it is not a political or media message.”
“Then again, there are Catholics and Catholics,” he said.
“It is positive that in several places numerous young people voted for ecological parties, which means that the themes of environment and creation can become important in the future,” the archbishop said, noting that “as a Church” the victory of the green parties “makes us happy.”
“There is, as expected, a strengthening of populist parties but it is not a trend in all countries,” he said, noting the strong populist victory in Italy was not matched in countries like Spain, Denmark, Austria, and the Netherlands.
“Certainly, the presence of a strengthened group of sovereign and populist parties will surely be an obstacle, but not an insurmountable difficulty,” he said, “because these political forces do not represent a strong enough minority to block the EU Parliament.”
Asked whether the overall results of the elections were positive or negative, the archbishop said they were “not completely negative” even if this is “perhaps harder to see for Catholics in Italy.”
Hollerich then went on to criticize Italy’s interior minister Matteo Salvini for preying upon Catholics by appealing to their religious sense.
“I think that in Italy, as well as in many other countries, Catholics have not been taken very seriously,” he said. “Their opinion did not count, and for this reason if someone holds up — for example — a rosary or something similar, people say: ‘Ah, finally there is a politician who cares about us.’”
“I could also hold up a communist flag,” he continued, “but that does not mean that I am a communist,” seeming to suggest that despite appearances to the contrary, Mr. Salvini is not a real Catholic.
The archbishop went on to downplay the importance of Salvini’s victory, noting that despite getting over 34 percent of the votes “it is not the majority of the population” and “it doesn’t mean that all the Italian people think the way he does.”
“In this post-modern era there is a certain political instability; the vote goes to one party one day and two years later the same party no longer counts for anything,” he said.
The archbishop suggested that in the elections the Italian people were also reacting against an ongoing economic decline in the country.
It is clear that in Italy “there has never been a real growth of the economy and people are poorer,” he said. “Then people vote for those who promise something but has yet to be seen whether they can keep their promises.”
“Our great enemy today is materialism, which is huge in Europe,” he said. “It is expressed in populisms but also in economic liberalism that is too strong.””
So in other words allow your country, culture and religion to be over run because that is the Catholic thing to do?

What the Catholic clergy should do is declare a CRUSADE! A crusade to put scrubbers on every coal fired plant in China and India. A crusade to filter the water of China, India, Viet Nam and Africa of plastics rushing into our oceans. A crusade to bring the rest of the world up to the standards the west currently exhibits.
Go for the low hanging fruit or go home.

“Anti-mass migration interior minister Matteo Salvini and his League party won the most votes in the southern Italian commune of Riace, despite it being known for its pro-migrant local politicians and policies.
According to polling results, the League has taken 30.75 per cent of the votes in Riace, Calabria, in the European Parliament elections held over the weekend, beating out the Five Star Movement by just over three per cent, Italian newspaper Il Giornale reports.
Riace became well-known as early as 2011 for having some of the most welcoming policies for asylum seekers in Italy when former mayor Domenico Lucano was hailed by the BBC as “saving” the town by inviting in hundreds of asylum seekers to the town of around 1,800 people.
In recent years, Lucano has come into conflict with the Italian justice system, being arrested last year for allegedly helping to arrange “marriages of convenience” in order to keep illegal migrants in the country. In April, the former mayor found himself again in legal trouble, being indicted for his treatment of migrants and then facing a probe into potential fraudulent activities.
Several days prior to the EU elections, Matteo Salvini commented on Lucano and the charges against him saying: “When I go to Calabria, people ask me for more work, not more immigrants.”
Riace is not the only supposedly pro-migrant area to have given large numbers of votes to Salvini. In Lampedusa, one of the areas that have seen the most incoming asylum seekers, the League received nearly 46 per cent of the vote.
The European election is a historic win for Salvini and the League, being their first nationwide victory in the party’s history. On Monday morning Salvini commented: “The rules are changing in Europe.”
“A new Europe is born. I will say to those who have sunk the European dream, transforming it into a nightmare, that I am proud that the League participated in this new rebirth of a sunken Europe,” he added.”

UK – Teenager, 17, slashed gay man in the stomach causing his intestines to spill out
A teenager has been jailed for more than 10 years after slashing a gay man’s stomach open during a homophobic attack. Ibraima Touray-Drammeh, 17, knifed Nathan Hale in the street with a machete which left an 8in gash in his gut and caused his intestines to spill out.
Touray-Drammeh then knocked Nathan’s phone out of his hand and ran away after the attack so his bleeding victim was unable to call for help.
The teenager was jailed for ten years and eight months on Thursday after he was found guilty of wounding with intent at Northampton Crown Court.
Her Honour Judge Adrienne Lucking said: ‘This is what happens when you carry weapons in public and injure other people.
You walked through the town centre with a barely-concealed machete.
‘You slashed him in the chest, in broad daylight, in public.
‘You both ran from this badly injured man. He fell down bleeding, and saw his own intestines fall through his abdomen.
‘This offence is so serious it can only be met with an immediate custodial sentence and I must impose an extended sentence in order to protect the public.’
The court heard the teenager, from Northampton, attacked Nathan in St Katherine’s Gardens, in the town, last August after abusing him in the street.
It ended with Touray-Drammeh pulling a machete out his trousers and slashing Nathan in the gut.
Touray-Drammeh’s friend Perry Bentley, 23, was jailed for 20 months after he watched the attack but did nothing to help.
The court heard how Touray-Drammeh bought the machete just two days before the attack.
A video recovered from a phone showed the teenager joking in a group with Bentley about how he struggled to walk with the blade hidden in his trousers.
Nathan was saved by immediate help from the police before being rushed to hospital where he was put in a medically-induced coma.
During the trial, Nathan said: ‘When I first saw my scars in hospital I cried for over an hour at what these men had done to me.
‘I have frequent flashbacks. I have nightmares of a man in my room at night.
‘I have been left a shadow of my former self.
‘I used to be outgoing and confident but I find going out just makes me anxious. I don’t think I will ever be the same

CUCUTA, Colombia (Reuters) – Wearing camouflage shirts and combat boots, a Venezuelan militia group stands in formation in the Colombian city of Cucuta as their commander, a former Venezuelan army sergeant, outlines plans to seize towns across the border before heading to Caracas to help oust President Nicolas Maduro.
Eight men, who said they were defectors from Venezuelan police, army and intelligence services, had gathered near the two nations’ tense frontier, from where they said they will lead an attack aimed at overthrowing Maduro and handing the reins of power to opposition leader Juan Guaido.
Dubbing their planned offensive “Operation Venezuela,” the ex-army sergeant, Eddier Rodriguez, said there were around 150 men ready to take part with his group. Reuters was unable to independently confirm the status of the eight men or the size of the militia.
“Our goal is to liberate the country,” said Rodriguez, 37, who said he is currently working as a security guard in Bogota. “We’re troops willing to give our lives if necessary, all 150 of us.”

Taiwan military conducts drills to defend against China

Taiwan is demonstrating its tactical abilities amid rising tensions with China. In a series of simulations Tuesday, the Taiwanese military landed several aircraft on a closed-off highway to practice its defense against possible Chinese air attacks.
Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen said the Air Force is being tested on their combat readiness and their ability to convert the highway into a runway.
This comes after China threatened to use force to achieve reunification with the island.

As Venezuela took up the one-month presidency of the Geneva talks, U.S. disarmament ambassador Robert Wood left the session and announced a “boycott” while Maduro ambassador Jorge Valero chairs it.

Former hostage opens up about life with her now-estranged Canadian husband, Joshua Boyle
Former hostage Caitlan Coleman fled for the U.S. border just hours after winning custody of her children in Ottawa last summer, ending an ordeal that she said lasted years and tested her in ways she’s only now beginning to talk about.
The American wife of Canadian Joshua Boyle, 35, is speaking out for the first time since she left Canada last year.
Coleman and Boyle, who married in 2011, were held hostage by Taliban-linked extremists for five years before being rescued and flown to Ottawa in 2017.
Boyle is facing 19 charges related to domestic violence, including assault, sexual assault and forcible confinement. He has pleaded not guilty to all the charges. His criminal trial began earlier this year and will resume when some legal matters are sorted out.
“I think that Josh took a lot of the best years of my life from me,” said Coleman, 33, in an exclusive interview with CBC News from her new home in the northeastern U.S.
“I feel like I’ve been given another chance. A lot of my life was spent under Josh’s thumb.”
Custody victory
CBC News spoke at length with Coleman but is limited to what it can report because Boyle’s trial has not concluded.
In July 2018, a family court judge granted Coleman temporary sole custody of their children and permitted them to leave Ottawa.
Coleman, who was pregnant at the time, was at an ultrasound clinic when her lawyer called to tell her she had won her custody case.
“That was her first words to me: ‘We won,'” Coleman recalled. “That meant we could cross the border, and we could go home.”
Her lawyer told her she had to move quickly in case her estranged husband decided to appeal the judge’s decision.
Run for the border
Coleman walked to her lawyer’s office in the rain to pick up a copy of the legal decision while her mother, sister and aunt, who were visiting from the U.S., began packing up her apartment.
“It is just kind of overwhelming anxiety and adrenaline,” said Coleman’s mother, Lynda Coleman. “We’d been waiting so long … and we had this very narrow window to get everybody out.”
Their rented seven-passenger SUV was stuffed with so many suitcases and boxes “you could barely see out the windows,” Lynda Coleman recalled.
At sunset, they arrived at the border at Ogdensburg, N.Y. It wasn’t a surprise when American customs officers flagged them for additional questioning and asked to see the children’s passports.
Clutching the court order, Caitlan Coleman went inside to be interviewed. Relief washed over her when the border agent ended the interview by extending her hand and saying, “Welcome home.”
“I was pretty excited and overwhelmed and just so honoured that she made that gesture,” Coleman said.
“Finally, we were free.”
It had been nearly six years since Coleman had set foot on American soil.
Conflicting accounts
During their child custody battle in 2018, Boyle and Coleman described their relationship in totally different ways.
In his family court affidavit, Boyle claimed he was the primary caregiver for the children and accused Coleman of neglect. When they were hostages, Boyle said, he often went without food so his children and wife could have more to eat. He also alleged Coleman suffered from mental health issues and would hit their children as often as “30 to 40 times daily.”
Boyle sought shared custody of the children and the surrender of their passports.
But in her decision released on July 23, 2018, Ontario Superior Court Justice Tracy Engelking said other than Boyle’s testimony, the court received no other evidence that Coleman had a mental health issue.
Engelking wrote that forcing Coleman and the children to remain in Ottawa “would be akin to once again holding them hostage.”
At her husband’s trial, which began in March 2019, Coleman told the court she was subject to violence and manipulation at the hands of her husband after they settled in Canada.
In the witness box, Coleman described how when, in December 2017, she finally decided to leave her husband, she ran out of their apartment into snow-covered streets in socked feet with $20 hidden in her bra. She also gave the court a copy of rules she said Boyle imposed upon her. Among the demands: that she bring him to ejaculation 14 times a week and that she log her food intake and exercise to burn 750 calories a day.
She testified Boyle punished her by hitting her with a broom.
She also told the court about her husband’s alleged physical and mental abuse during the five years they were held hostage by the Taliban-linked Haqqani network.
So far, Boyle has not testified in court.
Her 1st love
Coleman met Boyle online when she was 16. He was her first love, her first kiss.
Coleman testified at Boyle’s trial that he tried to control what she wore. She told CBC News that Boyle forbade her from wearing nail polish and demanded she wear long dresses. He also asked that she cover her face with a niqab and dress like his ex-wife, Zaynab Khadr, to whom he was briefly married.
Khadr is the daughter of al-Qaeda financier Ahmed Khadr and sister of former Guantanamo detainee Omar Khadr. Coleman refused to wear a face veil but did cover her hair.
Coleman also testified that her husband made attempts to control what she told others when they first returned from Afghanistan.
“Josh scripted any interaction I was to have with media. He also scripted my interactions with his family or with my family, with doctors, with anyone,” she said.
Pregnant hostage
The couple didn’t tell anyone Coleman was pregnant before leaving on their 2012 backpacking trip to Central Asia. Her parents only found out after the kidnapping, when her mother discovered an ultrasound image in the couple’s bedroom.
Boyle was an aspiring journalist, and in court, Coleman testified that her husband didn’t tell her of his plan to visit Afghanistan until they landed in Central Asia.
“He wanted to go and get the real story on the Taliban. He thought they were misrepresented in the Western media,” she told CBC News.
Coleman said she felt trapped because her husband carried the passports and money.
The couple were taken hostage by the Taliban-linked Haqqani network when Coleman was about six months pregnant.
The young family was rescued by Pakistani special forces on Oct. 11, 2017.
The ‘darkest’ period
Boyle was not present for the birth of their first son because their captors kept the couple separated for seven months. Coleman said Boyle told her he was tortured during that time. He said he was suspended from the ceiling and kept in darkness for days at a time.
The couple had three children in captivity: two sons and a daughter. On their return to North America, they had a second daughter.
In court, Coleman said the last few months of their ordeal were the most painful.
While she was pregnant with their third child, Coleman said Boyle confined her to a cramped shower stall with a squat toilet.
Coleman said Boyle took care of the children, and she was only allowed to interact with her sons when he allowed it.
After she gave birth, Coleman said Boyle would only let her hold her newborn daughter to breastfeed her.
“This was the darkest point in my whole life,” she said. “I’m still very traumatized by it, and it’s really something I try not to think about, you know, because dwelling on it makes it harder for me to go about my day.”
Boyle’s lawyer, Lawrence Greenspon, challenged Coleman during cross-examination suggesting she fabricated allegations of her estranged husband’s physical and mental abuse. From the witness box, Coleman steadfastly denied that suggestion.
Boyle’s trial was suspended after the judge ruled the defence could ask questions about the couple’s past consensual sexual activity. The ruling is being appealed by Coleman, but a decision could take months.
A new life
For now, Coleman takes comfort in the normalcy that surrounds her and hopes to pursue a psychology degree.
But only a few people know her address.
Coleman has started divorce proceedings. There’s also a restraining order that prevents her husband from coming near her or their children.
“I want to see my children grow, and I want to make sure that they have really good, happy lives,” she said. “But I also want to have a life full of accomplishment myself.”

London Bridge attackers did not become more aggressive through steroids, inquests hear
The London Bridge attackers were unlikely to have become more aggressive as a result of taking bodybuilding steroids, an inquest has heard.
Three terrorists mowed down pedestrians on London Bridge and ran amok around Borough Market with 12-inch ceramic knives on June 3 2017, killing eight people and injuring 48 others.
The attackers – Khuram Butt, 27, Rachid Redouane, 30, and Youssef Zaghba, 22 – were shot dead less than 10 minutes after the rampage began.
Toxicologist Professor David Cowan rejected the suggestion they had been “juiced up” on steroids, making them more aggressive.
Jonathan Hough, QC, counsel for the coroner, asked: “What is the chance of the use of steroids affecting one or more of them behaviourally?”
Prof Cowan said DHEA, an anabolic steroid, was more likely than not administered to the attackers.
But he said: “I think it’s highly unlikely that steroid use had any behavioural effect on any of the individuals.”
He told the court evidence the attackers appeared “hyper” or “wild eyed” did not necessarily indicate they were affected.
A forensic scientist confirmed that one of the victims, Xavier Thomas, had been hit by the attackers’ hire Renault van before he fell into the Thames.
Dr Louissa Marsh said examination of the Renault van and Mr Thomas’s jeans provided “strong support” for the proposition they were in contact.
An examination of particles in the van showed suspected driver Zaghba, 22, was closest to the deployment of the air bag.
But she was unable to prove he was behind the wheel from the forensic evidence alone.
Mr Thomas, 45, Christine Archibald, 30, Alexandre Pigeard, 26, Sara Zelenak, 21, Kirsty Boden, 28, Sebastien Belanger, 36, James McMullan, 32, and Ignacio Echeverria, 39 all died in the atrocity.

On May 4, 2019, Thaqalayn TV (Lebanon/Turkey) aired a report about a new brigade that is being added to the Mujahideen Brigades, which constitute the military wing of the Palestinian Mujahideen Movement, in honor of their 18th anniversary.
The report showed a military demonstration titled “Effective Promise” that was performed by the group’s militants and that included a simulated raid on a “Zionist post.”
Asad Abu Shari’a, the Secretary-General of the movement, said that the brigade is being added after a year of training and preparation.
He said that the Zionists have failed in their plans to “push people away from resistance” and that the fighters of the movement “race to reach death.”
Abu Khaled, the Mujahideen Brigades’ spokesman, said that the Brigades are “ready and present in all the battlefields” and that they are prepared “for any stupid act perpetrated by this Zionist enemy.”

In the video, seen by millions ahead of the vote, Rezo called on voters to reject the two parties for betraying the young by not addressing the climate crisis.
‘I asked myself what would be the response in this country if say 70 newspapers issued a joint appeal two days before the election, saying: ‘Don’t vote CDU or SPD.” Kramp-Karrenbauer, widely known by her initials AKK, told reporters on Monday.
‘That would have been clear propagandising before the election, and I believe it would have unleashed a lively debate,’ she added. ‘So the question remains: what are the rules from the analogue era and how do they apply in the digital era?’
She later defended her remarks: ‘It is absurd to assume that I want to regulate opinions,’ she tweeted. ‘But what we have to talk about are the rules that apply during election campaigns.’
Political opponents and allies alike responded with a mix of outrage and surprise. Armin Laschet, a fellow conservative who leads North Rhine-Westfalia, Germany’s largest state, quoted the free speech clause of Germany’s constitution in a speech.
‘Seventy years old but still just right for YouTube. The constitution protects freedom of opinion in all media,’ he said, according to a tweet from his staff.
The leader of the pro-business Free Democrats, Christian Lindner, tweeted: ‘I can hardly believe it… On the contrary, we need more open debate – on social media too.’
Niema Movassat, a lawmaker with the far-left Linke, tweeted that Kramp-Karrenbauer’s comments were ‘an attack on freedom of opinion’ and added that she ‘should resign immediately.’
Germany does not have restrictions on publishing opinions in newspapers ahead of an election, although it does require broadcasters to be politically balanced.
Kramp-Karrenbauer’s victory last December in a tight race to succeed Merkel as leader of the CDU put the 56-year-old in pole position to become Germany’s next chancellor.
But she has since made a series of gaffes that have raised questions about her suitability to become chancellor once Merkel relinquishes the post, which she plans to hold onto until 2021.
In March, Kramp-Karrenbauer drew sharp criticism from her Social Democrat coalition partners for poking fun at trans-gender people in a light-hearted carnival speech.
In February, she was ridiculed for addressing a high-profile meeting of her conservative CDU party by calling them Social Democrats.
In an opinion piece in its online edition on Tuesday, the Sueddeutsche Zeitung wrote: ‘Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer is making so many mistakes that her suitability as chancellor must be in doubt.’

Media Demands Facebook Censor Video Making Fun of Nancy Pelosi
The media is currently demanding social media giants purge “doctored” videos making fun of Nancy Pelosi that were shared by President Trump and his supporters.
On Thursday, Trump shared a video to Twitter from Fox News which used jump cuts to highlight Nancy Pelosi’s stammering (which she does constantly).
Rudy Giuliani, who is not part of Trump’s campaign, also linked to another comedy video on Facebook which slowed down Pelosi’s speech so she sounded drunk (this is a joke which has been done millions of times)
The media repeatedly falsely reported that Trump tweeted the second slowed down video and demanded Facebook and Twitter censor both videos because they’re “doctored.”
CNN’s Anderson Cooper did an over 8 minute segment on Friday with Facebook VP for Product Policy and Counterterrorism, Monika Bickert, where he repeatedly demanded to know why Facebook wouldn’t purge the video entirely.
Bickert told him they censored it to limit its reach, but that wasn’t enough for him, nor the rest of the media.
Hundreds of articles were written attacking Facebook for allowing the “doctored” video to remain up.
CBS News even ran a headline which make it seem like the video was a CGI-created “deepfake.”
In just a few months’ time, the media has gone from demanding social media censor everyone on the “far-right” to demanding social media censor everyone making fun of Nancy Pelosi.
