“Earlier, US media revealed the existence of a new kind of Hellfire missile packed with half a dozen razor-sharp blades designed to chop the enemy to pieces, but without causing the kinds of explosions which have caused thousands of civilian casualties in US wars across the Middle East over the past two decades.
The new missile, known as the R9X, has already bene dubbed a ‘ninja bomb’ or ‘the flying Ginsu’, in a nod to popular Japanese knife infomercials from the 1980s. According to the Wall Street Journal, the 45 kg bomb has been used on at least two occasions – in Syria in February 2017 and in Yemen in January 2019, with the military telling the newspaper they fired the weapon “about a half-dozen times.”
Now, photos have emerged online purporting to show one the times the missile was used. Journalist Nick Waters posted photos from a strike targeting former al-Qaeda deputy head Abu Khayr al-Masri, who was killed in a mysterious ‘explosion-free’ strike on his vehicle in Idlib, Syria in February 2017.
“I remember puzzling over these cuts for ages trying to work out what had hit [al-Masri’s car]. Turns out it was a Hellfire missile with f***ing swords attached to it,” Waters wrote.
Other users quickly did a little more digging, discovering more photos and videos from the al-Masri strike.
The R9X’s use of knives and gravity gives it the potential to be considerably more precise than the standard Hellfire AGM-114 cousin and its variants, whose armour-piercing warheads, airburst and fragmentation capabilities make them extremely deadly, and prone to causing civilian casualties, which the US military typically dubs ‘collateral damage’….”

Why do I get the impression that Nick Waters wasn’t writing in a tone of awe or jubilant approbation but, instead, one of sympathetic indignation? The absence of any perceptible air disturbance caused by the writer’s obvious lack of a verbal fist-pump is audibly detectable.

UK Islamic Schools Linked to Radical Teaching Used to Breed Extremists ? PhD (sputniknews, May 11, 2019)

“A recent report about radical teachings at Islamic educational establishments across the United Kingdom is putting the discussion on radicalism into a new perspective.
It emerged last week that 48 British madrassas, some of which were earlier found to be spreading radical teachings, have been breeding a new generation of preachers.
According to a secret government report, initially revealed by the Daily Mail, imams emerging from these madrasas are as extreme as radical clerics coming to the UK from abroad.
Moreover, at least four of these schools were previously criticised by the authorities for promulgating the notion that music and dancing comes from the devil and that women do not have the right to refuse to have sex with their husbands.
A Hard-line Curriculum
The schools in question reportedly use Dars-e-Nizami, a study curriculum representing a literal interpretation of the Koran. It is thought to be employed by the hard-line Deobandi movement, which provided training ground for the Taliban and Daesh* in Pakistan and Afghanistan.
“Deobandis are very hostile against Sufis and Shia Muslims. Hence, these madrassas in Pakistan created a new generation of young people who believe that the sect of their school is the only true version of Islam and that all other sects should be excluded or excommunicated,” says Nawar Kassomeh, a PhD holder (ABD) in politics at Lancaster University.
Deobandi’s syllabus, which originated in the 18th century, contains works by medieval Islamic jurists and is not adapted to modern circumstances, Kassomeh says.
“So, it is normal for such works to contain some passages and some interpretations that are not suitable for modern Western societies. This problem is not limited to Dars-e-Nizami syllabus. Other radical and moderate Islamic education systems and interpretations also include similar extremist and biased views.”
Islam and Western Values
This echoes the Daily Mail’s report, where a source was quoted as saying that the training in the UK-based schools “results in the development of extremist views” because of their conservative character. Deobandis, meanwhile, are the single biggest Islamic group in the UK, and are estimated to run over 40 per cent of mosques in the country, according to the website MuslimsInBritain(.)org.
Although the report surfaced as late as last week, there is speculation that the government had learned about the spread of potentially radical teachings long ago.
Kassomeh opines: “I am sure the British secret service agencies had been aware of these madrassas’ activities and ideologies for a long time before the leak of this ‘secret’ report to the press. Perhaps these agencies want to push the government to take some measures in order to contain the threat of these madrassas.”
However, the report about Islamic schools shows the government’s “deliberate desire to hide the fact that Islam is a violent religion, incompatible with Western values”, says Christine Tasin, the president of Resistance Republicaine, an organisation advocating for the defence of France’s secular values.
“The Koran contains many verses about women and they vary about how women are treated. Some of the verses say that women and men are equal on judgment day and a few verses praise women in their role of mother. However, the majority of the verses subjugate women. Sex with the wife is on demand by the husband and wives can be beaten. In jihad, non-Muslim women can be forced to have sex,” says Dr Bill Warne, a US author, speaker, and teacher on the history of political Islam.
He explains that the perception of Muslims can vary depending on their practice of the Islamic doctrine. “If they are devout and practice all of the doctrine, they are called extreme. But if they only practice part of the doctrine, they are called moderate,” he adds.
Ways to Deal With Islamisation
It appears that Western countries are facing the consequences of their own policies adopted over the past decades. Nawar Kassomeh believes that radical Islamists have benefited from Western laws that protect minorities and religious freedom.
He says: “Keeping track of these madrassas is the responsibility of the Ministry of Education as well as the law enforcement agencies. In order to do so, new measures and laws are required to facilitate this control”.
Christine Tasin went further into detail — and even proposed specific measures which, however, will likely face backlash from the Muslim community.
Tasin insists that the only way to avoid this kind of teaching is for the UK government to officially designate certain parts of the Koran and Hadith (the collection of traditions or sayings of the Prophet Muhammad codified into the Sunna) as “unacceptable” and exclude them from curricula at madrassas.
“All that remains for European governments to do is to bang their fists on the table to clearly and definitively prohibit the reading and teaching of all verses inciting discrimination, violence, murder, misogyny,” the activist told Sputnik.
“So, as long as governments bury their heads in the sand and pretend to be scandalised, allowing Islam to take hold and change European countries, there will be no solution,” she concludes.

Suleiman, who gave the invocation on the occasion of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, was invited by Rep. Eddie Bernice Johnson (D-TX). He delivered the invocation as Pelosi looked on, stressing themes of peace and unity.
Despite the ecumenical spirit of Suleiman’s prayer, the Jerusalem Post noted that Suleiman is “known for his Israel-bashing antics.” It provided an extensive list of examples:

“21 heads of state of various European Union member-states have signed a new manifesto arguing for more integration in the political bloc and a “stronger Europe” — interpreted as a response to the rise of eurosceptic, pro-sovereignty populist parties.
Among the signatories, according to Italian newspaper Il Giornale, are several monarchs such as those of Sweden, Spain, the Netherlands, Belgium, and Denmark, as well as many presidents, including Italian president Sergio Mattarella.
“European integration has contributed to realising the centuries-old hope of having peace in Europe after unbridled nationalism and other extreme ideologies have brought Europe to the barbarism of two world wars,” the manifesto claims.

Last month, the European Union’s own election predictions showed a massive expected surge for the populists and other conservative eurosceptics to the point where they could become the second largest political force in the European Parliament.”

“One of the co-founders of the Belgian Islamist party named simply “Islam” has been given a suspended sentence after being convicted of discriminating against a woman on a television programme last year.
Islam party co-founder Redouane Ahrouch appeared on the political television panel programme C’est Pas Tous les Jours Dimanche (It’s Not Every Sunday) in April last year and, during his time on the programme, refused to greet or even look at journalist and columnist Emmanuelle Praet, according to a report from Le Soir.
This refusal was prosecuted as discrimination by the Criminal Court of Brussels, where he was convicted.
Mr Ahrouch, who serves as a local councillor in Anderlecht, co-founded the Islam party in the early months of 2018, causing uproar due to policies attributed to the party, such as turning Belgium into a sharia-compliant Islamic state.
“Our goal is a one hundred per cent Islamic state,” Ahrouch said last year following the launch of the party. He also said that men and women should have gender-segregated use of public transportation, comments that soon afterwards saw him fired from his position as a bus driver.
Few, if any, parties welcomed the launch of the Islam party, and several, including the Independent Federal Democrat Party (DEFI), the right-wing Reform Movement (MR), the Humanist Democratic Centre (CDH), and the Socialist Party (PS), proposed banning the Islam Party and any other party whose “whose aim is to threaten public liberties.”
Theo Francken, former Secretary of State for Asylum and Migration and member of the New Flemish Alliance (N-VA), also spoke out against the party, saying, “Sharia is in violation of human rights. The Sharia parties are therefore undemocratic. Real wolves disguised as lambs!”

“Police are investigating a man pretending to pray to “Aladdin” as a joke in a Muslim prayer room as a hate crime.
Video shows a man in what is thought to be the prayer room of Royal Bolton Hospital, kneeling on a prayer mat and chanting “Aladdin, take me away” and imitating Arabic while his another person recording the performance laughs in the background.
A woman who had previously prayed in the room reportedly recognised it, saying: “I was there yesterday around 6 p.m. for afternoon prayer. When I recognised the carpets and information on the wall, I realised, ‘I have just been in there’.”
She added: “I couldn’t believe it. I found it really disrespectful. Like when you have been burgled — the feeling afterwards like you have been violated,” she claimed.
“Anyone is welcome to come in there but they should respect it,” she added.
The same woman pointed out that the man was wearing shoes and touching holy texts in the video, which is forbidden in Islam.
Imteyaz Ali, representing the Bolton Council of Mosques, told Bolton News: “It’s a place of worship kindly provided by the hospital for all faiths, which should be respected.”
“Now it’s clearly a police matter and they should deal with it robustly,” he demanded.
Chief Inspector John Charlton said of the incident: “Those who think they can hide behind a keyboard and disseminate this kind of harmful material should expect to be investigated.”
“Any type of hate crime will not be tolerated in Greater Manchester and we encourage anyone who has been a victim of or witnessed a hate crime to report it immediately,” he added.
London mayor Sadiq Khan and the Metropolitan Police are among those who take “hate crime” and “hate incidents” incredibly seriously.
Despite police cutbacks and a report last year that the Met were planning on not investigating thousands of low-level crimes such as vandalism and assaults with only non-serious injuries, police policy dictates that all hate crime must be investigated.
So-called “non-crime hate incidents”, in which a person is offended or believes they have been unfairly targeted but no crime has been proven to have taken place, are also increasingly a part of policing. Estimates are that police spend thousands of hours reviewing these “hate incidents”, despite a huge increase in violent crime and a reduction in the number of police available to deal with it.
Among previous incidents recorded were complaints that a man’s dog barking was racist, and another in which a woman had been told online that she resembled the cartoon character Peter Griffin from Family Guy.
Another instance of a hate incident being pursued includes a man who was investigated in January for retweeting a supposedly transphobic limerick. The man took to Twitter to tell his followers about the incident, saying that a police officer had contacted him and read him the limerick over the phone.
“I said, ‘I didn’t write that.’ He said, ‘Ah. But you Liked it and promoted it.’ I asked why he was wasting his time on a non-crime. He said, ‘It’s not a crime, but it will be recorded as a hate incident,” the man recalled.”
UK MANCHESTER – Video of man mocking Muslim prayer room in Bolton Hospital being investigated as hate crime
TWO videos being shared on Facebook of a man pretending to pray to ‘Aladdin’ in a Muslim prayer room are being investigated as a hate crime.
Videos shared from a profile on Facebook under the name Terence Howarth show the man in what is believed to be the prayer room of Royal Bolton Hospital.
A woman from Halliwell who is visiting the hospital said she recognised the room immediately when she was shown the video.
She said: “I was there yesterday around 6pm for afternoon prayer. When I recognised the carpets and information on the wall, I realised ‘I have just been in there’.
“I couldn’t believe it. I found it really disrespectful. Like when you have been burgled — the feeling afterwards like you have been violated.
“Anyone is welcome to come in there but they should respect it.
“The Hindu temple shares an entrance and I have had a quick look but I wouldn’t go in and deface anything.
“It’s weird to me that people would do that and share it publicly, like it’s something normal, it’s not normal.”
She pointed out the man in the video was wearing shoes and touching holy texts, which are both frowned upon by the faith.
The videos are less than 20 seconds long each and Greater Manchester Police confirmed this morning they are treating the incident as a hate crime.
Commenters to the videos suggest the man in the video works for the force however the police have said he is not employed by them in any capacity.
Imteyaz Ali from the Bolton Council of Mosques said: “It’s a place of worship kindly provided by the hospital for all faiths, which should be respected.
“Now it’s clearly a police matter and they should deal with it robustly.”
Trish Armstrong-Child, director of nursing at Royal Bolton Hospital said: “We are saddened to learn that our facilities which form part of the religious and spiritual care we provide to our patients, visitors and staff have been misused in such a disrespectful manner.
“Our faith rooms are open to all 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and we would hope that they would be treated with respect by everyone who visits the hospital.
“Our multi-faith chaplaincy team and our security staff are aware of the incident and we will be working together to try and ensure our premises are used responsibly and respectfully by all.”

LONDON/DUBAI, May 10 (Reuters) – Iran could target U.S. commercial ships including oil tankers, the U.S. Maritime Administration said on Friday, as a senior Iranian cleric said a U.S. Navy fleet could be “destroyed with one missile.”

A loss of 7,200 jobs in March, and then a gain of 106,500 jobs in April. For David Rosenberg, Canada’s latest employment data just doesn’t add up.
Statistics Canada said Friday that Canadian employment increased by 106,500 positions in April, the biggest one-month increase in data going back to 1976. The country’s jobless rate fell to 5.7 per cent, compared to 5.8 per cent in March.
But Rosenberg, chief economist and strategist at Gluskin Sheff + Associates, says the country’s latest jobs numbers are hard to believe, given what’s happening in the Canadian economy.
“Did you really believe that the Canadian labour market is so volatile that we could have a [7,200] decline in the labour force in one month, followed by an 100,000-increase in the next month? Is our labour market more volatile than the stock market is? It’s hard to believe,” Rosenberg said in an interview with BNN Bloomberg Friday.

A new camera can photograph you from 45 kilometers away
Developed in China, the lidar-based system can cut through city smog to resolve human-sized features at vast distances.
Long-distance photography on Earth is a tricky challenge. Capturing enough light from a subject at great distances is not easy. And even then, the atmosphere introduces distortions that can ruin the image; so does pollution, which is a particular problem in cities. That makes it hard to get any kind of image beyond a distance of a few kilometers or so (assuming the camera is mounted high enough off the ground to cope with Earth’s curvature).
But in recent years, researchers have begun to exploit sensitive photodetectors to do much better. These detectors are so sensitive they can pick up single photons and use them to piece together images of subjects up to 10 kilometers (six miles) away.
Nevertheless, physicists would love to improve even more. And today, Zheng-Ping Li and colleagues from the University of Science and Technology of China in Shanghai show how to photograph subjects up to 45 km (28 miles) away in a smog-plagued urban environment. Their technique uses single-photon detectors combined with a unique computational imaging algorithm that achieves super-high-resolution images by knitting together the sparsest of data points.

The new technique is relatively straightforward in principle. It is based on laser ranging and detection, or lidar—illuminating the subject with laser light and then creating an image from reflected light.
The big advantage of this kind of active imaging is that the photons reflected from the subject return to the detector within a specific time window that depends on the distance. So any photons that arrive outside this window can be ignored.
This “gating” dramatically reduces the noise created by unwanted photons from elsewhere in the environment. And it allows lidar systems to be highly sensitive and distance specific.
To make the new system even better in urban environments, Zheng-Ping and co use an infrared laser with a wavelength of 1550 nanometers, a repetition rate of 100 kilohertz, and a modest power of 120 milliwatts. This wavelength makes the system eye-safe and allows the team to filter out solar photons that would otherwise overwhelm the detector.
The researchers send and receive these photons through the same optical apparatus—an ordinary astronomical telescope with an aperture of 280 mm. The reflected photons are then detected by a commercial single-photon detector. To create an image, the researchers scan the field of view using a piezo-controlled mirror that can tilt up, down, and side to side.
In this way, they can create two-dimensional images. But by changing the gating timings, they can pick up photons reflected from different distances to build a 3D image.
The final advance the team has made is to develop an algorithm that knits an image together using the single-photon data. This kind of computational imaging has advanced in leaps and bounds in recent years, allowing researchers to create images from relatively small sets of data.
The results speak for themselves. The team set up the new camera on the 20th floor of a building on Chongming Island in Shanghai and pointed it at the Pudong Civil Aviation Building across the river, some 45 km away.
Conventional images taken through the telescope show nothing other than noise. But the new technique produces images with a spatial resolution of about 60 cm, which resolves building windows. “This result demonstrates the superior capability of the near-infrared single-photon LiDAR system to resolve targets through smog,” say the team.
That’s also significantly better than the conventional diffraction limit of 1 meter at 45 km, and certainly better than other recently developed algorithms. The image here shows the potential of the technique in images taken in daylight from a distance of 21 km. ”Our results open a new venue for high-resolution, fast, low-power 3D optical imaging over ultralong ranges,” say Zheng-Ping and co.
That’s interesting work that has a wide range of applications. The team mention remote sensing, airborne surveillance, and target recognition and identification. Indeed, the entire device is about the size of a large shoebox and so is relatively portable.
And Zheng-Ping and co say it can be significantly improved. “Our system is feasible for imaging at a few hundreds of kilometers by refining the setup, and thus represents a significant milestone towards rapid, low-power, and high-resolution LiDAR over extra-long ranges,” they say.
So keep smiling—they may be watching.

Venezuela’s Guaido rallies his supporters as Maduro clamps down
Caracas (AFP) – Venezuelan opposition leader Juan Guaido on Saturday urged his supporters once again to protest nationwide against President Nicolas Maduro, who has slowly ratcheted up the pressure on the lawmaker since a failed military uprising.
The demonstrations will help measure support for the leader of the opposition-controlled National Assembly leader, who is recognized by more than 50 countries as Venezuela’s interim president, since the April 30 attempt to oust Maduro fizzled.
Guaido has faced a number of setbacks: his deputy Edgar Zambrano was arrested by Maduro’s SEBIN intelligence service and is being held for “the flagrant commission of the crimes of treason, conspiracy and civil rebellion,” the Supreme Court said.
Three other lawmakers have sought refuge in various diplomatic installations in Caracas, and one fled to neighboring Colombia.

WASHINGTON (AP) — One of the founding members of the 1990s hip-hop group the Fugees has been charged in a campaign finance conspiracy that took place during the 2012 presidential election, the Justice Department said Friday.
A four-count indictment accuses Prakazrel “Pras” Michel of conspiring with fugitive Malaysian financer Low Taek Jho, usually known as Jho Low, to make and conceal foreign campaign contributions. He is alleged to have used straw donors to give campaign contributions to a U.S. presidential candidate, who is identified in the indictment only as Candidate A.
Low has gained attention in the last several years after U.S. officials accused him of masterminding a money laundering and bribery scheme that pilfered billions from the Malaysian state investment fund known as 1MDB. He’s been charged separately by both U.S. and Malaysian officials in connection with that alleged fraud but remains at large.
Prosecutors allege that from June to November 2012, Low directed more than $21.6 million to be moved from foreign entities to Michel’s accounts in order to funnel money into the 2012 presidential election. They say Michel then paid about 20 straw donors and conduits so they could make the donations in their names and conceal where the money actually came from, according to the indictment.

Microsoft is set to release a new version of Word that uses artificial intelligence to make your writing ‘politically correct’.
You know how annoying it is when the iPhone corrects ‘fucking’ to ‘ducking’ every time you type out the word? Imagine that for an entire essay.
The new feature, called ‘Ideas in Word’, will recommend ‘sensitive’ phrases like “We need to get some fresh blood in here” be modified so that “fresh blood” becomes “new employees”.
“It might underline places where your writing exhibited gender bias,” reports Fast Company. “If you tend to say “mailman” or Congressman” in the generic, it might suggest you use “mailperson” or “Congressperson.” If you use the term “gentlemen’s agreement,” it may suggest you use “unspoken agreement” instead.”

On Tuesday, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi told an audience at the Cornell Club in New York City that if Donald Trump wins a second term in 2020, Democrats would not question the outcome of the election, adding, “That’s not who we are.”
“Oh, I think we have to respect the vote of the people,” she went on to say. “Winning an election is a decision.”
What makes this statement laughable is that since Election Night in 2016, Democrats have done nothing but complain about the outcome of the election. From crowds of disappointed voters holding up signs reading “Not my president” to Hillary Clinton’s pathetic whine-athon to Democratic candidates like Stacey Abrams refusing to concede elections that they lost, Democrats have come off as pathetic children. Why any sane person would believe that they intend to take the high road in 2020 is a riddle for the ages.

Details of a secret meeting are beginning to surface, while Iran continues to retaliate against U.S. efforts for denuclearization.
Last week, various important officials — including National Security Adviser John Bolton, CIA Director Gina Haspel, and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo — met together to discuss matters in Iran. The cabinet officials met outside the White House Situation Room, which is reportedly extremely rare.
The National Security Council would not comment as to what was discussed during the meeting, but sources have said it was likely about covert operations given the meeting’s location at CIA headquarters.
The officials met just days after the U.S. fast-tracked an aircraft carrier and bombers to the Persian Gulf. According to sources close to the matter, Intelligence was warned Tehran approved proxy forces to attack U.S. personnel and assets in the region.

Trump on the verge of flipping New York Appeals Court to conservative control

The Senate confirmed Judge Joseph Bianco and Michael Park to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 2nd Circuit, putting Pres. Donald Trump on the verge of flipping the panel to conservative control.
Bianco and Park are Trump’s second and third appointees to that panel. If Trump fills the remaining two vacancies on the 2nd Circuit, Republican appointees will control the court. The two were confirmed with separate votes Wednesday and Thursday.
The 2nd Circuit is the federal appeals court that covers Connecticut, New York and Vermont. Given its jurisdiction over Manhattan, the 2nd Circuit has a large and important docket of corporate and securities law cases.

Two people in the multicultural city of Malmö in southern Sweden have been arrested following a large explosion at a restaurant on Friday around 2 a.m.
The explosion has been described in a report by Swedish television broadcaster SVT as “heavy”, with pictures of the aftermath of the blast showing widespread damage to the interior of the restaurant.
According to the report, the explosion was so large it shattered the windows of several other buildings in the vicinity, with the internal commander of the police in Malmö, Jerker Olsson, confirming that two individuals had been arrested in connection with what he termed “grossly perilous destruction”.
“It is very extensive damage so it must have been a heavy charge that exploded,” Olsson said. Police say they were tipped off to the incident through an automatic alarm system and say that fortunately no one, including emergency services personnel, was injured as a result of the powerful explosion.

Germany: Scuffles break out at pro-Kurdish rally in Dusseldorf
Scuffles between police and pro-Kurdish demonstrators broke out in the west German city of Dusseldorf on Saturday. Hundreds of people came out to vent their anger at the government of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, accusing him of cracking down on Kurdish politicians and activists.
“There are around 7,000 political prisoners in Turkish jails, who are currently on hunger strike to protest against isolation. Leyla Guven is their representative, who has been on hunger strike for six months. And Europe is silent about it. That’s why we are here,” said Baki Selcuk, an activist from Berlin.
Protesters tried to form a human chain but were blocked by police officers.

Germany: CDU’s new leader hits campaign trail for European elections
The new leader of Germany’s ruling Christian Democratic Union (CDU) Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer rallied her party faithful in Ulm on a wet Friday.
AKK, as she is widely known, called on voters to reject anti-EU populism and back “a stronger Europe for the future”. She drew on the country’s period of political reconstruction after the Second World War to make her point.
The CDU leader also criticised heavily Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, after he refused to accept defeat in local elections in Istanbul.
“In these past few days images and reports from Turkey reached us, where a democratic vote in Istanbul was annulled for a single reason, because the result did not suit the regime and the president,” she told a crowd of around 400 supporters.
The electoral board recently announced a decision to re-run Istanbul’s mayoral election, to international outcry. The ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) of Erdogan lost control of Turkey’s city by a narrow margin.
Canada: Thousands march in Ottawa against legal abortions
Thousands of pro-life Canadians joined the March for Life in Ottawa on Friday, mourning the 50th anniversary of the law that legalised abortion at all stages of pregnancy.
Protesters marched through the capital and gathered in front of the Canadian parliament with signs in both French and English bearing pro-life slogans.
Canada is one of only a few nations with no legal restrictions on abortion.
The Criminal Law Amendment Act of 1969 legalised abortion at all stages of pregnancy in Canada as long as a committee of doctors deemed it necessary for the mother’s physical and mental well-being.
In 1988, Canada’s supreme court struck down the law, removing all legal framework regulating abortions in the country. Access to abortions now varies between provinces.

Nine airline employees at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport were arrested about a year ago for plotting to smuggle drugs out of the airport. Since then, they’ve admitted to being willing to smuggle anything on board a commercial airline for money including drugs, weapons and plastic explosives.
The nine employees included a baggage scanner, baggage handler and other employees who could monitor bags being placed on and off Spirit Airlines and Envoy Air aircrafts. A tenth employee involved in the ring is a fugitive.

France’s military has freed four hostages who were being held in Burkina Faso. But as it announced that success, the navy also said it’s mourning two special forces soldiers who died in the overnight rescue operation.
The military says Cédric de Pierrepont and Alain Bertoncello, who held the rank of petty officers, were killed as they carried out their mission to rescue the hostages in the vast Sahel region — the area between the Sahara to the north and savannas to the south.
French President Emmanuel Macron issued a statement Friday offering his condolences to the two commandos’ loved ones. In that message, Macron also identified the rescued hostages as French tourists Patrick Picque and Laurent Lassimouillas — who were abducted May 1 in Benin.
