“More than 17 and a half years after the deadly 9/11 attacks, the five accused terrorists remain in jail and there is still no date for trial proceedings at a US prison in Guanatanamo Bay.
Defence lawyer Jay Connell said on Monday that military prosecutors claimed they had tapes of phone calls between the alleged architect of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, and three of his accused accomplices discussing their plot in code months before it took place, The New York Times reported.
Connell revealed the information in order to show opposition to plans to use the alleged tapes as evidence at the death penalty trial of the suspected perpetrators.
According to the media outlet, citing the attorney, prosecutors provided defence lawyers with the audio and transcripts of their translation on 30 September 2016, and signalled their intention to use them at trial.
While investigating their origins, defence lawyers reportedly found out that the original trial judge, Army Col. James L. Pohl, had issued a secret order preventing them from learning about a system that permitted the collection of phone calls or asking questions about it.
Connell, who is currently representing Mohammed’s nephew, Ammar al-Baluchi, claimed that prosecutors had secretly obtained a ruling in August 2018 from Colonel Pohl banning defence lawyers from finding out how the calls had been collected or looking into that matter. According to the NYT, the phone calls in at least two languages were made between April and October 2001.
Connell argued that such a restriction violated the Sixth Amendment to the US Constitution, meaning that it breached a defendant’s right to challenge the evidence used against him in a trial, and contended in court on Monday that either the tapes should be suppressed or the case should be dismissed.
While the military trial judges have yet to decide which aspects of the Constitution apply in military commissions — the war court set up by President George W. Bush after the 9/11 events — prosecutor Clayton Trivett responded by saying that defence lawyers would be allowed to question an FBI linguist who compared samples of the voices of the accused to the voices on the tapes to confirm they were Mohammed, al-Baluchi, and two other suspected co-conspirators.
They will also be allowed to question an FBI analyst who decoded the phone calls, but the only restriction, Trivett said, is on lawyers attempting to investigate “how the United States government got those calls”, something, prosecutors told the judge, would jeopardise national security.
In the meantime, Colonel Pohl said that prosecutors could say that the evidence had been obtained from “telephone calls from between April and October 2001 that were later determined to pertain to the planned attacks on Sept. 11, 2001”, the NYT reported.
Trivett refused to reveal how and when the FBI acquired voice samples of the alleged attackers, but said that they were not from the CIA black sites where the five accused plotters were held before being transferred to Guantanamo for trial in 2006.
This week, a new military judge, Col. Keith Parrella of the Marines, is set to hear attorneys and prosecutors argue in the 34th round of pre-trial hearings since the five defendants were arraigned in 2012.
Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, a Pakistani Islamist militant who allegedly boasted in 2007 that he “was responsible for the 9/11 operation — A to Z”, is accused of first proposing to carry out attacks on the United States to then al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden in 1996.
His suspected co-conspirators held at Guantanamo include Walid bin Attash, a Yemeni, who purportedly ran an al-Qaeda training base in Afghanistan where two of the 19 airplane hijackers were trained; Ramzi bin al-Shibh, another Yemeni national, who is accused of helping a German cell of hijackers find flight schools and enter the US; Ammar al-Baluchi, a Kuwaiti and Mohammed’s nephew, who is accused of transferring about $120,000 to the hijackers to cover their expenses and flight training; and Mustafa Ahmad al-Hawsawi, a Saudi, who is suspected of having sent money, western clothing, traveller’s cheques and credit cards to some of the hijackers.
On 11 September 2001, al-Qaeda terrorists hijacked airplanes to bring down the twin towers of New York City’s World Trade Centre and attack the Pentagon, and a Pennsylvania field. The worst attack in the history of the United States claimed the lives of some 3,000 people.”

“HARBOUR Police in Middlesbrough have held seven people thought to be from east Africa on suspicion of entering the UK illegally on a cargo vessel.
Five men, one woman and a child were discovered in cargo at Teesport Harbour on Monday night. They told border officials they were Eritrean, although it was not clear which country they had departed to head to the UK. The woman from the group was admitted to hospital after complaining of chest pains. The woman has since been discharged, while the child was taken in by social services.
The cases of all seven people will now be dealt with according to immigration rules, a Border Force spokesman said.
A Home Office spokesman said: “Border Force was contacted by Harbour Police at 7pm on Monday March 25 after officers encountered seven people on the dock suspected of entering the UK illegally.
“The seven people, five men, a woman and a minor, presented themselves as Eritrean.
“The woman who had complained of chest pains was taken to hospital, but has since been discharged. The minor has been passed into the care of social services.
“All of their cases will be dealt with according to the immigration rules.”
In 2016, local council figures showed Middlesbrough recorded the highest number of asylum seekers for any town in the UK, with an estimated one in 186 said to be seeking a better life in the north-eastern city.

“An Iraqi man suspected of sabotaging German railway tracks in a terror plot has been arrested in Austria.
The 42-year-old suspect, said to be an overt ISIS sympathiser, was held at his Vienna flat on Monday after two apparent acts of sabotage on railway lines last year.
In both cases an intruder had interfered with the tracks in a bid to cause a high-speed derailment, with Arabic-language writings and ISIS-related material found nearby.
The alleged terror plot follows an al-Qaeda appeal in 2017 urging its extremist followers to derail ‘vulnerable’ trains with a home-made tool.
Describing last year’s alleged plot, German police said a steel cable had been stretched over high-speed tracks between electrification masts, on a stretch of track between Nuremberg and Munich.
Reinforced wooden wedges had also been placed on the track in the hope of derailing one of the trains.
On October 7 a high-speed Intercity-Express (ICE) train had driven over the obstacles, although it only suffered minor damage.

London knife crime: Six stabbings in less than six hours including ‘targeted attack’ in capital (telegraph, Mar 27, 2019)

“The knife crime epidemic that continues to plague the streets of London showed no sign of slowing yesterday as six stabbings were reported in less than six hours in the capital.
At 3.20pm on Tuesday in Blackheath, south-east London, an 18-year-old man was stabbed in broad daylight in what was described by witnesses as a “targeted attack”.
Across town in Hounslow, south-west London another attack was about to take place. At 4.20pm a 26-year-old man was stabbed, and around half an hour later another man, 20, was slashed just yards away.
Police are still trying to establish whether or not the two incidents are linked and were given extra powers to stop and search in the Hounslow Borough until 4am Wednesday morning.
At 6.05pm in Tottenham, north London, a boy who is believed to be 17 was slashed across the face with a knife in the fourth incident of the day.
Less than an hour had passed before Metropolitan Police were dealing with another stabbing, this time in Barking, east London when a 19-year-old was set upon by a gang.
Then, in Tooting High Street, an 18 year-old was found stabbed after officers were called to yet another altercation.
Prime Minister Theresa May has pledged to hold a major summit in Downing Street on April 1 aimed at tackling the problem.
Metropolitan Police commissioner Cressida Dick said the last few years “undoubtedly have been the highest and most worrying levels in my service”.
She added: “If you look at stabbings of young people I do think this is a new and tragic and worrying phenomenon.”
Here’s what police said about the six incidents:
1) 3.15pm: Blackheath
Police were called to a road in Blackheath at 3.24pm on Tuesday, March 26, following reports that a male was being threatened with a knife.
London Ambulance Service (LAS) and officers attended the scene in Thyme Close, SE3 and found a man, aged around 18, suffering from multiple stab wounds.
He has been taken hospital; his injuries were initially thought to be life-threatening but have since been assessed as not life-threatening.
A cordon is in place however there is limited disruption to access to the road.
Residents will see officers in the surrounding area for a number of hours while initial investigative work takes place.
Those with information should call police on 101 quoting CAD4752/26March, or call Crimestoppers 10O per cent anonymously on 0800 555 111.
2) 4.23pm: Hounslow
Police were called by the London Ambulance Service (LAS) at 4.23pm on Tuesday, March 26, to reports of a man suffering from stab injuries in Beaversford Park off Martindale Road.
Officers attended. A 26-year-old man was taken to a central London hospital for treatment. His condition is not life-threatening.
A male was arrested shortly after the Martindale Road incident. He has been taken into custody at a west London police station.
3) 5pm: Hounslow
Officers attended a second call from the LAS at 5pm to reports of a man suffering from a slash injury on Rosemary Avenue at the junction with Bath Road. The 20-year-old man was treated at the scene.
At this early stage, enquiries continue to establish whether the assaults are connected.
A Section 60 was authorised across Hounslow Borough from 5.15pm on Tuesday until 4.00am on Wednesday, giving police the power to stop and search individuals for offensive weapons.
4) 6.05pm: Tottenham
Police were called at 6.05pm to High Road, Tottenham, N17, after a teenager was found suffering from a head injury.
Officers attended with LAS. The boy, believed to be aged 17, had suffered a slash injury to his face.
He has been taken to hospital; his injuries are not life-threatening. There have been no arrests. Enquiries into the circumstances continue.
5) 6.54pm: Barking
Police were called at 6.54pm to Waterside Close, Barking following reports of a group of males attacking another male. Officers attended.
A 19-year-old man was found suffering from stab wounds. He has been taken to hospital; his condition is not life-threatening.
There have been no arrests. A crime scene is in place. Enquiries continue.
6) 9pm: Tooting
Police were called just after 9pm on Tuesday to reports of a stabbing in High Street, Tooting.
Officers attended the location and found an 18-year-old man suffering stab injuries. He was taken by LAS to hospital – his injuries are not life-threatening.
Detectives from the South West command unit are investigating. There has been no arrest.

“An 88-year-old German woman died as a result of injuries sustained after an alleged assault by a 17-year-old Chechen migrant who has now been arrested by police.
Police in the town of Schkeuditz in Saxony say they arrested the Chechen following a series of assaults and robberies of a total of nine senior citizens including 88-year-old Ilse K. who died shortly after he allegedly attacked her, Bild reports.
The attack itself occurred last month on February 23rd with the 88-year-old dying four days after the attack which severely injured her shoulder.
The assault followed a similar attack a month prior in which the 17-year-old Chechen allegedly assaulted an 86-year-old who also fell and badly injured herself.
It took police until March 14th to issue an arrest warrant for the teen after he had discarded the purse of the 88-year-old and left fingerprints on it which were later used to identify him.
A search of his home also revealed more evidence connecting him to nine crimes that took place between December of last year and February of 2019…”
German Migration Head: Asylum Application Numbers ‘Too High’ (breitbart, Mar 27, 2019)

“The head of Germany’s Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF) has claimed that despite the reduction in asylum numbers since 2015, the number of new applications is still too high.
BAMF chief Hans-Eckhard Sommer noted that Germany was still receiving asylum seekers on a huge scale saying, “We registered 162,000 asylum applications last year — which is comparable to a big city that comes to us every year,” Deutsche Welle reports.
Sommer also added that the vast majority of those coming to Germany seeking asylum had not received an approved claim with only 35 per cent gaining some form of asylum status. “We see very clearly that many people come here without having a reason for asylum,” he said.
The idea of an “upper limit” for asylum applications has been pushed by the leader of the Bavarian Christian Social Union (CSU) Horst Seehofer since the 2015 crisis and demanded that the country has a limit of 200,000 asylum applications per year.
The upper limit was later included in the grand coalition deal last year when the CSU and German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s Christian Democratic Union (CDU) formed a government with the left-wing Social Democrats (SPD).
The BAMF chief said that he agreed with the upper limit in principle but did not want to set any sort of absolute target for the number of asylum applications per year saying, “If someone comes for a legitimate asylum reason, then we must also recognise this and cannot be solely statistical.”
Another major problem Germany has faced in recent years has been the number of asylum seekers arriving in the country without any travel documents or other forms of identification.
In 2018, it was revealed that at least 200,000 migrants had entered Germany without any form of identification since 2014 with 125,408 coming during the height of the crisis the following year.
Last year, Mr Sommer said that around 54 per cent of the asylum claims received were by individuals who had no identification papers, as well.”
Sharia Crackdown: Brunei’s ‘Vicious’ New Islamic Criminal Laws Attacked (breitbart, Mar 27, 2019)

“Stoning to death for gay sex and amputation for theft are just two provisions in new legislation planned for the tiny, oil-rich Asian state of Brunei that have drawn criticism from human rights groups.
The penalties, which also apply to children, are outlined in new sections under Brunei’s Sharia Penal Code and will begin on April 3. The legal changes were announced in a discreet notice on the attorney general’s website, AP reports.
Amnesty International on Wednesday slammed the new legislation, saying it was “cruel” and “inhuman”.
“To legalize such cruel and inhuman penalties is appalling of itself,” said Rachel Chhoa-Howard, Brunei researcher at Amnesty International. She said some of the potential offenses “should not even be deemed crimes at all, including consensual sex between adults of the same gender.”
“Brunei must immediately halt its plans to implement these vicious punishments and revise its penal code in compliance with its human rights obligations,” Chhoa-Howard said. “The international community must urgently condemn Brunei’s move to put these cruel penalties into practice.”
The latest move in the strict imposition of strict Islamic law in Brunei was first flagged back in 2014 when the Sultan, Hassanal Bolkiah, announced the first phase of Sharia. “With faith and gratitude to Allah the almighty, I declare that tomorrow, Thursday 1 May 2014, will see the enforcement of sharia law phase one, to be followed by the other phases,” the monarch decreed.
The first phase introduced fines and jail terms for offences such as indecent behaviour, failure to attend Friday prayers, and falling pregnant outside of wedlock. The next phase, covering crimes such as theft, will involve punishments such as severing limbs and flogging, has now officially been implemented.
Brunei is one of the most developed nations in East Asia, deriving much of its wealth from oil. Its healthcare, education system and public services are heavily subsidised, yet it retains an absolute monarchy with no sign of democratic reform for the foreseeable future.
The small state is situated on the island of Borneo, which it shares with Malaysia and Indonesia.
Although the new Sharia code is believed to be popular among the Muslim ethnic Malays who make up 70 percent of the country’s population, the laws will also apply to non-Muslims. Around one-third of Brunei’s residents are non-Muslim, including substantial Buddhist and Christian communities.
Amnesty labeled the Sharia amendment as a “deeply flawed piece of legislation” with a range of provisions that violate human rights.
There has been no vocal opposition to the law in Brunei, where Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah rules as head of state with full executive authority. Public criticism of his policies is extremely rare.
The Sultan, who has reigned since 1967, has previously said the Shariah Penal Code should be regarded as a form of “special guidance” from God and would be “part of the great history” of Brunei.
Under secular laws, Brunei already prescribes caning as a penalty for crimes including immigration offenses, for which convicts can be flogged with a rattan cane.
In 2015 the Sultan banned the celebration of Christmas in any form, warning residents of his country that if they plan on celebrating the Christian festival, they could face up to five years in jail.”

“Australia’s top cyberwarrior revealed Wednesday that his country actively participated in the electronic war against the Islamic State group in Syria, degrading their communications during military operations and actively stopping people seeking to join the extremist group.
The director-general of the government-run Australian Signals Directorate, Mike Burgess, spoke publicly for the first time about his agency’s work.
Burgess cited an example of how the cyberwarfare body helped the Australian Defense Force and its allies win a critical battle with IS.
“Just as the coalition forces were preparing to attack the terrorists’ position, our offensive cyberoperators were at their keyboards in Australia — firing highly targeted bits and bytes into cyberspace,” Burgess said in a speech at the Lowy Institute, an Australian strategic think tank.
He said IS communications “were degraded within seconds.”
“Terrorist commanders couldn’t connect to the internet and were unable to communicate with each other. The terrorists were in disarray and driven from their position — in part because of the young men and women at their keyboards some 11,000 kilometers (6,900 miles) or so from the battle.”
Burgess said the operation required weeks of planning by his agency and military personnel and was unprecedented in terms of how cyberwarfare was closely synchronized with the movements of military personnel.
“And it was highly successful. Without reliable communications, the enemy had no means to organize themselves. And the coalition forces regained the territory,” Burgess said.
He said his agency had also inflicted important damage to IS’s “media machine” by locking it out of its servers and destroying propaganda material, undermining its ability to “spread hate and recruit new members.”
In a rare departure — anywhere in the world — from the secrecy that typically surrounds such operations, Burgess painted a fuller picture of his agency’s work in a speech aimed at recruiting more operatives.
“Our targets may find their communications don’t work at a critical moment — rather than being destroyed completely. Or they don’t work in the way they are expecting. Or they might find themselves not able to access their information or accounts precisely when they need to,” he said.
Operatives came from all walks of life, having studied anything from mathematics to biology and marketing, he said. They sat at computers in Canberra, where they worked against IS on battlefields in Syria.
He said another operation began after his agency learned of a man “in a remote location” who had been radicalized and was attempting to join a terrorist group. A team was assembled, including linguistic, cultural and behavioral experts, which was headed by a young female science graduate in Canberra who was pretending to be a senior male terrorist in the Middle East.
“ASD tracked down and reached out to the man over the internet. Pretending to be a terrorist commander, our lead operator used a series of online conversations to gradually win her target’s trust,” Burgess said.
“To ensure he couldn’t be contacted by the real terrorists, she got him to change his modes and methods of communication. Eventually, she convinced the aspiring terrorist to abandon his plan for jihad and move to another country where our partner agencies could ensure he was no longer a danger to others or himself,” he said.
Burgess said the woman who led the operation was like many “from fairly ordinary backgrounds” who worked to help Australian operations abroad, or to prevent cyberattacks targeted at Australia.
“And when she was studying science at university, she would never have dreamed that one day she would be posing online as a terrorist and helping to defend Australia from global threats,” he said.”

“Police in northern Greece have adopted a new tactic for disrupting gangs that smuggle people into the country from across the land border with Turkey, an increasingly popular route: stopping drivers who work for the gangs and charging them with traffic violations before they can pick up their human cargo.
The drivers can’t be charged with smuggling if they don’t have migrants with them. But they can face prison terms of several months and stiff fines for violations such as driving without a license, and their cars can be impounded.
The strategy is much less dangerous than policing the border by having patrol cars chase old vehicles crammed with people who just entered Greece. Smugglers sometimes use teenagers with minimal driving experience to transport migrants from the border to other destinations, risking horrific losses of life if they panic and crash during a police pursuit.
In October, a car smuggling migrants collided with a truck and burst into flames near the city of Kavala in northeastern Greece, killing all 11 people who somehow were squeezed inside.
Accidents in northeastern Greece involving vehicles driven by smugglers killed 30 migrants last year — including the 11 killed near Kavala — and injured another 95, according to police data.
“In the serious accidents with refugee and migrant victims, most of the drivers who survived and were immigrants from Asian countries, didn’t have driving licenses,” said Major-General Nikolaos Menexidis, the police chief for Greece’s border region of Thrace and adjoining Eastern Macedonia. “The vehicles were in bad condition, many had worn tires, because the gangs are looking for cheap ways to do their business.”
Typically, smuggling gangs charge 1,500-2,000 euros ($1,700-$2,260) per person to sneak migrants from Turkey across the land border to Greece’s second-largest city, Thessaloniki.
Police started focusing on vehicles without passengers as a smuggling deterrent in September. From then through February, 125 people suspected of working for smuggling rings were arrested for traffic violations while driving toward the Thrace border region. They had been recruited from among migrants already living in Greece, and none had a drivers’ license…”

Italy commands Sophia but the anti-migrant government refuses to allow any people it rescues to be disembarked in its ports, complicating the mission.
EU countries agree in principle to renew Sophia’s mandate for six months. For now, they want to recall its ships, but nots its aircraft.

Our earlier article linked to the extensive evidence on which the indictment was based. Granting that defendants are innocent until proven guilty, the charges certainly appeared to warrant prosecution. Simply dropping them as if the Chicago police had failed to assemble a compelling case makes no sense. I’ve never had a bloodthirsty desire to see Smollett hammered within an inch of his life over this, but considering how his allegations preoccupied an overworked police department in a city with a high homicide rate and serious public safety problems, some jail time and a cautionary example seemed appropriate.
The police superintendent, Eddie Johnson, was reportedly caught by surprise when the prosecutor’s decision was announced on Tuesday morning. He was attending a ceremony for new police officers at the time, and according to local news affiliates, he and his senior staff, along with Mayor Rahm Emanuel, called their impromptu press conference immediately after the ceremony.

This has all the unbelievable aspect of a Big Lie being rammed down our throats. There was some garbled allusion after the prosecutor’s announcement to a sort of plea deal involving community service – but in a presser this morning Smollett’s attorney was clear that there was no plea deal and no deferred prosecution agreement.
One part of the story is what Joel Pollak reports at Breitbart: that George Soros contributed $408,000 to State’s Attorney Kim Foxx’s election campaign in 2016.
An Illinois state’s attorney backed by Soros is guaranteed to make radical moves.
At least some of those moves are likely to be made because of ties to the local far-left network. Chicago media reported last week that the Chicago police union wanted to have Kim Foxx’s handling of the Smollett case investigated, because of alleged intervention that could hardly have come from a higher level: Tina Tchen, an attorney who “formerly served as chief of staff to Michelle Obama and as an assistant to Barack Obama.”

Richard: This is an open slap in the face of everyone who is not a strident Obama supporter, and to a very large extent it is an attack on the Clinton power in the Democrats. An Obama supporter is handed a get our of jail free card by another Obama supporter in a City controlled by the Clinton’s.

The open salvos occured during the 2008 primaries and then a truce was declared until the 2016 primaries. This was when Soros started spending money to get his Prosecutors elected in every location he could. Then in the 2018 Primaries the radical left went after the few semi moderate Dems that were left after the Obama years.
The reaction from the rest of the Dems was to rush to the left in an attempt to keep t heir seats in Congress. Then this slap in the face, the Soros – Obama team is telling the Clintons that they are not going to get back in power no matter what they do. They are also telling we the people that we no longer count, that the radical left has taken control and will do what they want to anyone they want.
The last time anyone displayed their political power this openly was during Prohibition and the Depression. Back then it was (for the most part) it was Gangsters saying they were above the law, now it is political gangsters saying they are the law and will do what they want.
We are in the opening stages of a civil war that will determine if the US remains a free nation of if we will descend into communist tyranny like the rest of the Western Nations.

Smollett denies all wrongdoing and maintains he was attacked in downtown Chicago on January 29th.

France: Parisians rally in support of elderly injured ‘Yellow Vests’ protester
Around 150 people gathered at Paris’ Place de la Republique on Tuesday in support of 73 year-old Genevieve Legay, a ‘Yellow Vests’ protester who was severely injured while participating in a demonstration in Nice on Saturday.
According to reports, Legay fell and injured her head when police closed in on protesters in Nice’s Garibaldi Square on Saturday. Legay was reportedly hospitalised with serious head injuries.
French President Emmanuel Macron commented on Legay’s injury two days later in an interview published on the Nice-Matin newspaper, saying “when one is fragile and risks being shoved, one does not go to places that are declared off-limits and one does not put oneself in that kind of situation.”
Tuesday’s rally was led by the ATTAC (Association for the Taxation of Financial Transactions and for Citizens’ Action) France rights group, of which Legay is a member.
Representatives from the Anticapitalist New Party (NPA) and Ensemble! were present at the demonstration.
“The only thing we expected from Macron was already more than that, but we could ask him loud and clear that in this kind of situation, he should be quiet, at least have the decency to say nothing,” said NPA spokesperson Olivier Besancenot.
VICE News – Democrats In Washington Try To Change The Subject From Mueller
On Tuesday, Democrats continued to call for the release of the full report into President Trump’s administration by Special Counsel Robert Mueller.
But, in much louder voices, they tried to talk about other things instead, like healthcare and the Green New Deal.
The reason is obvious — the initial findings from the Mueller report, as communicated by Attorney General William Barr, were embarrassing for a party that had whipped itself into a lather about what the Mueller findings might mean for the president.
But the weird thing is, Democratic voters in the primary states were not as excited for the Mueller report as Democrats in Washington were. Voters are thinking about the next two years, the Democratic primary and the race against Trump after that, and the ones VICE News spoke with this weekend would rather their candidates talk about something else.

Why stop at cheeks?
Jokes aside, I think this is one of the reasons Sunni muslims dislike Sufis. In Sunnism, self-harm and body modification are strictly forbidden. No tattoos, no scarification, self-flaggelation or piercing cheeks.
The Hebrew Scriptures forbid that sort of thing. It was what idol-worshippers did, not people who believed themselves made in the image of G-d.
Tattoos – printing permanent marks on the body – are out (Lev. 19:28). Scarification or cutting is verboten (Deut. 4, and elsewhere). Pierced ears for men are an ancient sign of the slave who chose to remain a slave rather than go free (Ex. 21:6).

An Islamic religious order in Mosul has resumed its ceremonies after they were banned under the Islamic State group.
Members of the Sufi order known as Tariqah Al Kasnazaniyah test their devotion by piercing parts of their bodies with knives and metal skewers.

The Islamic order, Tariqah Al Kasnazaniyah, embraces Sufi traditions, which is a mystical Islamic belief.
It is practiced by some Muslims who seek religious truth and show devotion by performing unimaginable feats of endurance.
The ceremony starts with men, many with long hair, standing is rows reciting religious prayers and swaying in devotion to Allah – traditional drums add to their vocal rhythm.
The Tariqah Al Kasnazaniyah claim their lineage through Prophet Mohammed, via his son-in-law Ali bin Talib.
The word ‘Aliyyah’ is also derived from his name.
This style of Sufisim is also practiced in Iran and Turkey and claims it makes no distinction between Shia and Sunni Muslims, or Kurdish or Arab followers.
It was because of this that they were banned under Islamic State (IS) in Mosul between 2014 and 2017 and many of their followers had to escape the city.
The ‘Dhikr’ ceremony (remembrance of Allah) that they are performing now had to be abandoned.
It restarted when Mosul was liberated from IS and Tariqah Al Kasnazaniyah followers returned and started their practices without fear of persecution.
“We and Daesh (Islamic State group) are opposites, because Daesh is promoting terrorism, while we are calling for peace,” says Tariq Sheet Mahmoud, a Sufi Khalifa.
“Also, the Sufi path is against the Takfiri path (declaring dissenters to not be true Muslims). Therefore we were wanted by Daesh, because Daesh make no exceptions for anyone, apart from their followers.”
The men, young and old, involved in the ceremony follow the lead of one spiritual leader who recites religious verses.
To show his devotion, one man allows the khalifa to hammer knives in his head without showing any fear.
Another shows endurance by having a metal skewer pierced through his cheek.
The knives and the skewers are later removed and the men appear unharmed.
During the religious singing one man hammers a knife in his eye socket and retracts it without a drop of blood or any damage to his eye.
Mystical sufism has deep roots in the Iraqi society, and has many followers from all the different ethnic and religious groups.
Sufism followers formed many insurgent groups to fight the coalition forces in Iraq after the war in 2003.
They include the The Men of the Army of al-Naqshbandia Order, who participated in the battle of Fallujah against the American troops in 2006.
However, Sufism has been targeted recently, very often by Muslim extremists.
An example was the deadly militant attack on a Sufi mosque in Sinai peninsula in Egypt, which killed at least 305 people in 2017.
This was described by the officials as “the worst terrorist attack in Egypt’s modern history”.

Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz said that he could “confirm” a link between the suspect of the Christchurch mosque shootings and the Identitarian Movement in Austria, while speaking at a press conference in Vienna on Wednesday.
“We can now confirm that there was financial support, and so a link, between the New Zealand attacker and the Identitarian Movement in Austria,” Kurz said.
According to reports, Martin Sellner, the leader of the Identitarian Movement in Austria, received 1500 euros ($1690) in 2018 from a donor bearing the same name as the suspect charged with murder for the Christchurch attacks.
Kurz went on to say that a quick investigation was necessary “to ensure or to ascertain whether there was a scheme in the background in the Austrian territory, and the punishment of all those who are guilty of something. Beyond that, naturally an examination of the dissolution of the Indentitarians is possible.”
“Our position on this is very clear, no kind of extremism whatsoever – whether it’s radical Islamists or right-wing extremist fanatics – has any place in our country and in our society,” Kurz said, adding “we will proceed against this with the full strength of the law.”
The Austrian Chancellor then spoke of plans to establish an “anti-extremist position” which would “protect democracy and the rule of law, contribute to good prevention work in Austria, and offer the possibility to better fight against dangerous ideologies such as anti-Semitism, right-wing extremist fantasies or political Islam.”

The Australian – Austrian far-right activist Martin Sellner linked to NZ terror suspect
Austrian police raided the home of a far-right leader after a four-figure donation to his party was linked to the Christchurch mosque shooter.
Martin Sellner, who heads the Identitarian Movement Austria (IBO) said he had received a donation that was possibly from Brenton Tarrant.
In a video, Mr Sellner said he had received an email containing a disproportionately large donation from a person named Tarrant. He said he had replied “thank you”, his usual practice of acknowledging donations. “I have nothing to do with this terror attack,” Mr Sellner said.
“He was not a (mass murderer) at the time,” Mr Sellner said.
“According to his manifesto, he had already planned the act, which is why this donation is a transparent part of his plan.”
Mr Sellner then added his Bitcoin details for further donations.
Mr Tarrant, the 28-year-old Australian and self-proclaimed white supremacist, has been charged with one Christchurch murder and is expected to face further charges. Fifty people were killed and dozens injured during the attack on two Christchurch mosques on March 15.
Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz said: “Any connection between the Christchurch attacker and members of the Identitarians in Austria needs to be comprehensively and ruthlessly investigated.
“It is important that the independent justice system can use all necessary means and resources to conduct its investigation together with the security services and expose these networks.”
Austrian anti-terrorism police raided Mr Sellner’s apartment in Vienna, took away computer equipment and seized his phone.
Interior Ministry spokesman Christoph Polzl said the raid was carried out on the orders of the prosecutor’s office in the city of Graz.

These candles feature everything from the standard black-suited G-man picture to one of a droopy Mueller in saintly robes pointing at his own glowing heart. By tomorrow or next week at the latest, you will be able to snag what Portland Monthly dubbed last year, the “hottest gift” of the holiday season in the bin at the Dollar store.
The candles, the buttons, the t-shirts, the mugs and the other Mueller tchotchkes which briefly made their peddlers wealthy, are all headed for that bin after he broke the hearts of his biggest fans.
Vogue dubbed Mueller, a 74-year-old lawyer, “America’s newest crush”. “He can evoke shades of Humphrey Bogart and has mastered a nearly Zoolander-esque gaze,” the style mag raved.
Just in January, Vanity Fair published an even trashier ode to Mueller, declaring, “Mueller Won the Hearts of America”. By America, the lefty mags, like all lefty culture manufacturers, meant themselves.

Three months after a federal court struck down the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act that created Obamacare, the Department of Justice announced that it will back the court’s landmark decision, escalating the Trump administration’s attacks on the un-American 2010 legislation that nationalized a huge chunk of the nation’s economy.
Predictably, Democrats, Republican squishes, and insurance companies unjustly enriched by Obamacare denounced the Trump administration’s move. Democrats, in particular, are eager to keep the issue of health care alive so they can run on it in 2020 and in every election until the end of time.
It was Dec. 14, 2018, that U.S. District Judge Reed O’Connor of the Northern District of Texas held that in 2017 when Congress effectively repealed the mandate that forced Americans to buy health insurance that body “sawed off the last leg it [i.e. Obamacare] stood on.”
“The court finds the individual mandate ‘is essential to’ and inseverable from ‘the other provisions of’” the Obamacare statute and is therefore unconstitutional, O’Connor wrote.
Robert Henneke, general counsel and director of the Center for the American Future at the Austin-based Texas Public Policy Foundation, who was part of the legal team that vanquished Obamacare in the lawsuit, told The Epoch Times in December that the ruling was “the third chapter in the trilogy” of significant challenges to Obamacare.

Bruce Bawer Not so many years ago, the notion that a hijab-wearing jihad enthusiast like Linda Sarsour could become a leading figure in the American feminist movement would have seemed risible. The spectacle of a congresswoman, also in hijab, who routinely spouted anti-Semitic rhetoric and gave speeches to groups with known terrorist connections, would have been unimaginable. But here we are. And the important thing to realize is that, unless things change radically, this is just the beginning. Before you know it, three Muslim members of Congress can turn into five, then ten, then twenty. There are now fifteen Muslims in the British Parliament, up from thirteen in 2015 and eight in 2010.
Meanwhile, in Sweden, the taxpayer-funded TV network, SVT, now has a Stockholm-based news reporter who appears on-camera in hijab. As the alternative news website Samnytt reported recently, the young woman, who goes by the name Cheyma Moufid, began work as an intern at SVT last September and has been a full-time SVT journalist since January, doing remotes as well as in-studio reportage. In one report, Moufid, who is 23 years old, charged that the municipality of Stockholm was doing a less thorough job of clearing snow in Muslim neighborhoods than in other parts of the city. She presented this disparity as evidence of racism. Anyone familiar with the current state of affairs in those Muslim areas, however, might conclude, alternately, that snow removal teams avoid them for the same reason that police and firefighters do – namely, because they’re no-go zones, sharia zones, where infidel interlopers are not exactly treated with hospitality.

CBC – Anjou councillor booted from party following headscarf comments
Lynne Shand’s expulsion comes day after city council speaker files formal complaint about ‘xenophobic remarks’
Anjou borough Coun. Lynne Shand has been expelled from her municipal party following her derisive remarks about being treated by a doctor who wears a headscarf.
Luis Miranda, the borough mayor, said the decision was made by his party, Équipe Anjou, on Wednesday morning. Shand will sit as an independent.
“We reached the conclusion that she could no longer sit as a member of the party,” Miranda said.
Miranda had originally resisted taking action over the controversy. On Sunday, he said voters will decide in the next election if they want her to stay in her role. Shand was elected in 2017 by a margin of 400 votes.
“She has a right to have her own opinions or whatever, but as an elected official I think she should have some kind of moderation on what she’s saying and what she’s doing,” Miranda said at the time.
Shand has been embroiled in controversy since complaining on social media on the weekend about being treated by a doctor wearing a hijab.
“Yesterday I had an emergency ophthalmology exam, and who was the ophthalmologist? A woman in a veil… Grrrrrr…,” Shand wrote on Facebook.
“If it hadn’t been an emergency I would have refused to be treated by her. I’m angry because it’s really the Islamification of our country.”
Shand issued a statement Monday apologizing to anyone who may have been offended by her earlier comments.
Formal complaint filed
On Tuesday, the speaker of Montreal city council, Cathy Wong, filed a formal complaint with the Quebec Municipal Commission, a provincial body that oversees municipalities, over what she called Shand’s “xenophobic remarks.”
On her Facebook page, Wong wrote that she was taking action “as city council speaker and a city councillor, but first and foremost as a citizen of Montreal, because her remarks are inexcusable.”

Wong observed that 10 per cent of Anjou’s population is Muslim.
She said Shand’s social media post was “all the more shocking since it was published 10 days after the terrorist attack in Christchurch and a month after Montreal’s City Hall marked the tragic attack on a mosque in Quebec City.”
Wong’s statement referred to the code of ethics for Montreal city councillors, which declares that citizens must be treated with respect and without discrimination.
She said Shand’s comments cast doubt on the equality of services she offers to her constituents.
Montreal Mayor Valérie Plante has also asked the city’s ethics commissioner to look into the matter.

Anjou Coun. Lynne Shand removed from party following comments about Muslim doctor
Anjou borough Coun. Lynne Shand has been removed from her party following comments she made on social media about a Muslim doctor.
The move comes after Shand penned a Facebook post last weekend complaining that she was treated by an ophthalmologist wearing a veil during an emergency medical appointment.
“A veiled woman…grrr… Had it not been an emergency, I would have refused to be treated by her,” she wrote in the post, which has since been taken down. Shand also said there was “Islamization” of Canada.
She apologized earlier this week, saying she wasn’t criticizing the doctor’s skills and competency, but argued Muslims are “trying to convert the planet…through massive immigration and multiple births.”
Anjou Mayor Luis Miranda confirmed to Global News that Shand has been booted from Équipe Anjou. While she will still remain a borough councillor, she will sit as an independent.
“Following Ms. Shand’s comments on members of the Muslim community, Équipe Anjou’s decision to exclude Ms. Shand is unequivocal,” the municipal party said in a statement.
Cathy Wong, the speaker of the Montreal city council, announced on Wednesday she would file a complaint with the province’s municipal commission against Shand.
Wong said 10 per cent of Anjou’s population is Muslim. She argues when Shand made remarks about a Muslim woman, she attacks all Montrealers.

“Migrants hijacked a cargo ship in Libyan waters Wednesday and forced the crew to redirect the vessel north to Europe, according to Italian and Maltese authorities.
As the vessel headed in a direction leading to the island nation of Malta or Italy’s shores, both countries vowed to keep the hijacked ship out of their territorial waters.
Italian Interior Minister Matteo Salvini identified the ship as the Turkish oil tanker El Hiblu 1 and said the crew earlier rescued migrants in the Mediterranean Sea. He put the number of migrants on board at around 120 and described what was happening as “the first act of piracy on the high seas with migrants that hijacked” a cargo ship.
“Poor castaways, who hijack a merchant ship that saved them because they want to decide the route of the cruise,” Italian news agency ANSA quoted Salvini saying with sarcasm…”

The Armed Forces of Malta said military personnel were standing by and the tanker still was in Libyan territorial waters as of early Wednesday night.
A Maltese military official told Maltese media the ship was carrying 108 migrants. The official was not authorized to speak to reporters and requested anonymity.
The official also said Malta would not allow the ship to enter the country’s waters.
Salvini said weather conditions were not good and it was too early to tell if the ship was being directed toward Malta or Italy’s Lampedusa island. But he had a message for the pirates: “Forget about Italy.””
