Contributor’s links post for March 18, 2019

Daily Links Post graphic

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We muse use it while we can.

(Sorry it is late today everybody. Sometimes I forget to make it)

  1. Terror infiltration alert in Diciotti case – prefect (ansa, Mar 18, 2019)

“Prefect Matteo Piantedosi, the cabinet chief of Deputy Premier and Interior Minister Matteo Salvini, told prosecutors in Catania that the interior ministry was aware of a “generalized alarm” over the possibility of extremists infiltrating migrant boats attempting to reach Italy during the Diciotti case last August, according to sealed court documents, details of which emerged on Monday.

In the documents, which date back to November 12, Piantedosi told magistrates investigating the case that there was no “specific alarm” but the interior ministry’s “model of behavior” took that danger into account.

“There is the theme of protecting borders”, he said, according to the report on his questioning by magistrates.

Asked by a magistrate of the court of ministers in Catania whether there had been reports of specific people aboard the Diciotti who could be a threat to Italy’s security, Piantedosi said “no, not specific, but over the previous months we had generic reports on the alarm”.

Last month, the Senate’s immunity panel voted against granting a request from criminal prosecutors to proceed with charges against Deputy Premier and the interior minister over the Diciotti case. Catania’s court for ministers in January had requested authorization to proceed with the case in which Salvini was accused of kidnapping for refusing to allow over 100 migrants saved by the Coast Guard to get off the Diciotti ship during a 10-day stand-off with the EU in August. The request was made even though prosecutors in the Sicilian city had requested the case be dropped.”

  2. La Scala to return over €3 million of Saudi money (thelocal, Mar 18, 2019)

“Milan’s La Scala will refund money it received from Saudi Arabia after anger over a deal which assured the country a place on the board, the world-famous opera house’s president said on Monday.

“Back to square one. We’ll return the money to the Saudis,” the opera house’s president Giuseppe Sala said, adding that the board had voted “unanimously” to refund over €3 million received so far…”
